Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, this is Carol Miller. Welcome to our Get the
Letout calendar. Thirty years ago. On September thirtieth, nineteen ninety four,
Jimmy Page and Robert Plant gave live interviews in London.
They had suddenly renewed their collaboration and took their news
to the streets. Literally, they were outdoors at a busy
intersection in London while Jimmy got things started.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Personally speaking, I've been wanting to work with Roberts for
a long time. The time was right, really, and we
discussed a lot of areas of how we could get
things together, and we both agreed on fact that we
would have to do something that was within a new light.
Maybe if we were to do the old numbers, and
it would be like possibly said the same picture, but
within a different train.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
You see. Jimmy and Robert's announced partnership captured the magic
of a September of possibilities ten years ago. On October first,
twenty fourteen, Led Zeppelin had a previously unreleased track streaming
online for the past twenty four It was a taste

(01:01):
of the Deluxe edition of Houses of the Holy. The
title the Rain Song Mix minus piano was slightly misleading
because there's definitely piano in the mix, but no stark
contrast from the album version. Jimmy Page has since released
in twenty twenty three his solo demo take. He originally
titled it The Seasons. He played guitar and layered keyboard

(01:24):
to orchestrate strength and woodwind parts. Twenty five years ago.
On October second, nineteen ninety nine, John Paul Jones played

(01:45):
his first show as a solo artist. John's live trio
played nothing but instrumental music, and some of it from
Led Zeppelin. In the early sixties, songs without vocals and
lyrics had been quite popular in England. John his hand
at it in nineteen sixty four, releasing the single Baha.

(02:14):
He had acted a little bit too late. Sudden chart
toppers from the Beatles ensured that vocal groups were the
next big thing. Instrumental music isn't necessarily overwhelming, so for
his next solo album and tour, John Paul Jones showed
off a new skill singing. Fifty five years ago. On
October third, nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeppelin got back on

(02:35):
the road after a month away from beginning. They had
a mini tour of the Netherlands in France, Jimmy Page
had just vacationed in Spain and Morocco, and now the
British band steam Hammer opened for led Zeppelin. Their lead guitarist,
Martin Pugh, played an instrumental called Sunset Chase. Jimmy Page

(03:02):
soon began reviving his Yardbirds era instrumental White Summer during
Zeppelin shows. To it, he added Black Mountain Side from
the first Zeppelin album and he'd go from there, exploring
other musical territories. Fifty five years ago, on October fourth,
nineteen sixty nine, Led Zeppelin continued their full European tour

(03:22):
with a show in Rotterdam at Didelin. Jimmy Page was
not the only masterful guitarist on stage that night. Ray
Fennick played guitar for the psychedelic rock band After Tea.
On led Zeppelin's second day in the Netherlands. Ray's band
was the supporting actress Zeppelin. Their first single had been
released in the summer, and this was the B side,

(03:44):
Blues Ride from After Tea. This is Carol Miller. Thanks

(04:05):
for Getting the let Out. Check back next week for
another Get the Letout Calendar podcast.
