After years of speculation and months of intrigue, Avatar: The Way of Water opened in theatres this week.
The long-awaited sequel to the James Cameron hit had people booking tickets in advance and anticipation was at an all-time high ahead of Thursday's premiere. This appears to have paid off in terms of ticket sales, as it's set to make $180 million worldwide after opening weekend.
Flicks.co.nz editor Steve Newall observed that Avatar: The Way of Water has had a successful theatre turnout so far, a feat helped by the fact that no other big releases are out to compete with it.
