Look, when it comes to having a political view and an editorial opportunity, the expectation is often that I should combine the two and become outraged about something that is or isn’t being done in a way to compel you to think differently or collusively direct you on how to use your two ticks on October 14.
Although I’m a strong believer in exercising our democratic right to vote, I’m also collectively conflicted and compelled to convince you to think carefully before unleashing your two ticks upon your voting form.
What astounds me more than anything isn’t the political preferences of the people I hear pontificating profusely apropos the party they purport to prefer, it’s the absolute blind belief that the approval and preference they have for a political party or politicians promises will translate into tangible reality following October 14.
Have we learnt nothing over the decades when it comes to politicians?
Why is it that we glue ourselves and our future to the unrealistic promises of those whose entire motivation in life is to be re-elected, election after election?
When will we learn that the only person who can change the situation you’ve found yourself in, the only person who has any real interest in where you start and where you land, is you?
Why is it that some people are continually disappointed at the end of a Government’s term, baffled and bewildered at the reality and demonstrable outcome that everything they glue their hopes on has come to nothing?
Saturday October 14 will arrive quicker than relatives for a free meal, I warmly encourage anyone who hasn’t decided which way to fire their two ticks to consider wisely the promises of any politician juxtaposed to the financial situation we’re currently in, and any party’s ability to effectively get this country back on track while remaining fiscally responsible.
As proven time and time again, it’s not their money. They don’t care if it’s spent well or not. And time and time again, accountability is often lost in the fug of confusion.
As you hurtle off to church this morning, or perhaps you’re heading down to the local bakery for your Sunday treats- and both scenarios are equally as religious- remember that you decide your future.
Maybe make some promises to yourself and focus on the life you have, instead of those who’ve made promises about your life. Focus on you for yourself.
No politician needs to be involved in that, and no politician can determine your future.
