Speaker 1 (00:06):
You're listening to the Sunday Session podcast with Francesca Rudgin
from News Talk SEDB.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
A little bit of Jane's Addiction here to kick off
our entertainment segment. Good morning Steve.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Good morning Steve.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Is with us Steve Neal, editor at flicks dot co
dot nz. What do you know Jane's Addiction concert ended
only after a little bit early after the band decided
to have a bit of a fight on stage.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah, look a Oasis, because here comes Jane's Addiction.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
I do have a bit of a theory about Oasis.
I'm not sure where they're going to get to the
end of the tour, but anyway, that's by the bye.
But yet, I mean, this isn't a huge surprise, is it?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Maybe not? I mean Perry Farrell, the singer for Jane's Addiction,
as appairly eccentric chat it should be should be said.
I think That's could have been on brand from the
nineties onwards, but this most recent tour by I suppose
one of the most influential acts of the nineties kind
of e merging like a metal and alternative and a
(01:05):
few other kind of subgenres into the mix as well.
Jane's Addiction have been out on tour and the shows
have not been going well, and it's culminated in a
punch being thrown by Terry Farrell against his guitarist on stage,
Dave Navarro. And the excuses are not that great. His wife,
Perry's wife, took to social media.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Everyone's involved.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
This is the most unrock and roll excuse. He felt
that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his
voice was being drowned out by the band, But previous
shows on this tour have pointed to Farrell's performance. He's
admitted on stage is not really singing very well, and
a review from Tampa earlier this month noted Farrell launched
(01:49):
into many nonsensical rants about cow pastures, mushrooms, surfing, living
in Florida, and arguing with his brother about politics, among
other undecipherable comments, while chugging from a full bottle of wine.
We go rock and roll tour off the rails.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
But this is a reunion tour, isn't it.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
I mean.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
It's sort of not one of the dust off the
band after a huge delay, like Janes have kind of
reactivated a few times. But it's very hard to see
this going much further. There are fifteen more shows on
the tour, but there's no word yet about the status
of it.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Best of luck to them. The Emmy Awards are tomorrow,
New Zealand time. They're going to be broadcast on Sky's
Rialto channel, kicking off at five thirty pm. You've got
the red Carpet show, then at six thirty pm you've
got the Awards ceremony. We've got some keywis involved.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
There are keys involved, and there's also a bit of
dejavo involved, because if you're like me, you're sort of
feeling the Emmys. Yeah, but already it's it's only been
nine months since since the last EM's were staged, so
you can be forgiven the feeling like it just happened yesterday.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Is it the right to strike?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, I think like just rippling, like just all the
sort of rippling delays strikes COVID, like the ability to
stage this awards at the same time in place each year,
as has been knocked around for a fe years in
a row. Yes, there are some kiwi's. One of the
many Showgun nominations is for Annasawai, local actor well New
(03:17):
Zealand born actor and also what we Do in the
Shadows features prominently in the comedy categories as well, but
it is a awards that look like it's going to
be dominated by Shogun and the Bear, which you know,
as previously canvassed, is sort of nonsensically nominated in the
comedy the comedy section, I don't know. I don't know
if I laughed that much during the Bear. Don't know
(03:38):
about you. Eugene Levy and his son Dan Levy are
the hosts of the ceremony this year, and some of
the other leading candidates in the actor races. The favorites
are Gene Smart for Hacks the Bears, Jeremy Allen White
and a Say for Showgun, da Yoki Sonata for Showgun,
Jodie Foster for True Detective, and Baby Reindeer's Richard Gadd
(04:00):
And as you said, you can catch that on rialto
Channel from five thirty pm tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Do you know what I think one of the best
things about the Emmy's as it reminds you of series
you might not have seen if you haven't watched Hacks.
Loved it great little I couldn't famous Little Comedy.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
I wouldn't recommend that more for something that will take
you by surprise.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yes, and just a little bit of humorous distraction from life.
Thank you so much, Steve. As Steve mentioned, you can
catch the Emmys on Sky's Riatto channel tomorrow five thirty
pm the Red Carpet kicks off, and it's six thirty
pm the Emmy Awards ceremony will kick off.
