Like the All Blacks, the National Party needs to take responsibility - and move forward.
Former Prime Minister and National leader Sir John Key has likened rugby to politics, after both suffering heavy defeat and scrutiny.
Sir John told Francesca Rudkin that by blaming the media, or other people, you can forget to look in the mirror.
He says they both need to look at what happened - and go back to the drawing board.
"If you're not clear about your analysis and not appropriately critical, then you'll never get anywhere, you'll never make any progress."
He is also doubling down on the advice he gave to the National party at yesterday's AGM.
In the hard hitting speech, he told leakers to get out of the party - and said the rest need to work hard to get voters back on the blue side.
Sir John says the party lost around 413,000 voters in 2020, who voted blue in 2017.
"We know that the Government will work very hard to hold onto them. If we want to be the Government in 2023, we're going to have to get them back."
