Tomorrow the much talked about new food and safety rules for Early Childhood Centres come into force.
New food rules for early childcare centres which aim to prevent choking come into force next week and mean centres which provide food are no longer allowed to give children nuts, large seeds, hard or chewy lollies, crisps, hard rice crackers, dried fruit, sausages or saveloys, popcorn and marshmallows.
Small hard food like raw apple or carrot has to be grated if raw or cooked until soft and cut into strips.
The Early Childhood Council is calling for the implementation of new safety rules to be delayed.
CEO Peter Reynolds told Francesca Rudkin that there are too many unanswered questions.
"If the centre has fruit trees on their property, and if that tree has fruit that's now banned, do they have to rip those trees out by tomorrow?
He says more time is needed to work through these issues.
Reynolds says that most centres are opposed by the change in regulation, as they feel they are already covered.
