Speaker 1 (00:00):
Make sure you wear a belt. You don't want your
solstice showing if you're tailgating. I don't even know. It
just sounds like something's going on when you use that
word solstice. Don't have your solstice hanging out. Okay, I've
never heard it used in that particular way, but okay either,
(00:20):
I don't know. Once again, see hanging around you.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
It's like.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
My package. See my package there there, I mean that's yeah,
from my package. That's not me. Yeah, that's me from
a while ago. Zach isolates. He thinks he's funny. Yeah,
he isolates and holds on to different pieces of audio,
and it's like, yeah, uh, let's bring in Alex Stone
(00:48):
from ABC News.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
And Alex, does the moon look like during your.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Rather desirable?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I'm told yes or no.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
It's not never mind, I can't pull that off. I'll
just say it. Hey, so not bad for Ohio. And
what's today? The seventeenth of December. It's fifty degrees. What
are you guys at out?
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Seventy eight right now?
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Are you serious? Seventy eight?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
I thought about him this morning.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
First thing I heard this morning is we had a
three point three in southern Ohio.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Do you hear that.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
I did see that, and I'm wonder what Alex would
say to that?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
And been an earthquake? Oh, which is funny.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
The president of ABC News was here in our bureau
yesterday and we were all in a meeting and standing
around and we had an earthquake while he was presenting. Wow. Anyway,
it was very small, but some of us felt in
you could hear the building creek, but we were like,
now that is a welcome to California, the big boss
visiting that. You're in a meeting, and all of a sudden,
the building.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Begins to shake.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Is he out of New York?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah? Out of the York?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah? Okay, so he had come into town to see
all you West coast folk.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
That's right, and it was welcome. And then the building begins.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Shaking, and then he went all right, I'm out of here.
I'm flying back. Now.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Basically, you didn't even respond to it. We all went, hey,
was that an earthquake? And he just kept talking. We're like, well, all.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Right, he's on an agenda there, I guess.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah exactly. You're like, all right, well keep going boss.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
How does that happen during the that meeting? When you
guys are all there, and I mean, are there any
shenanigans going on? Or is it all business and nobody.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Can really cut out earthquake or just in general.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Well, like during a meeting when you have him there,
is it kind of lighthearted or is it kind of
heavy or like what happened?
Speaker 3 (02:26):
It's pretty serious, you know that the Big Boss when
they're in town. It's like when you have the Big
Boss come in town that everyone's everyone's dressed up and
looking very nice.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, I'm sure you have no comment on it. But
he didn't mention the fifteen million that whole thing, did he. Oh,
he probably didn't have anything to say about that. I'm
guessing Ooh. I was thinking to myself right now, I'm like, Mark,
don't say it, don't say it, and then it just
came out. I'm sorry, Alex I even brought it up.
You know, you're like, listen, I can't comment on that.
(02:55):
I'm not allowed to say anything anyway. I'll tell you
one thing that's going on. It's trending. It's like every
freaking day there's more and more drone signings and now
everybody is in on this. And Alex I was even
speculating at the beginning of the show, we were playing
some sound from some different senators and so on that
were sounding off of this. But I was telling Chuck
(03:16):
and Zach, I go, you know, I bet you sales
if we looked into it, are up. Drone sales are
up for this Christmas. Is my guess, based on just
the shear fact that we've been talking about it now
for the better part of what week and a half something.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Imagine we found out this was one big sales push
the TGI or whatever the companies are out there that
make drones that that all of a sudden they're like, Wow,
that worked, that was great.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
I mean, that would be genius really if it comes
down to that really is what happened. I don't think
they're in violation of anything because that everybody keeps talking
about how everything that's being operated all within the confines
of the law and everything's legal and blah blah blah.
So I don't really think that there would be a
big deal if if it really other than you'd be going, man,
(04:01):
how's genius? Actually, you know the drive sales?
Speaker 3 (04:03):
So yeah, I mean, bottom line with this whole thing
is at all levels, federal, state, and local they're saying
that they've seen no thread that except for where a
couple of yahoos have gotten too close to airports. There
was one near Boston Logan where they arrested the guys
and they were a couple of guys that were playing
around with their hobby drones, and then near some military bases,
(04:25):
but they haven't seen a lot else. And they think
this is a mix of regular aircraft being spotted and
drones that are out there that are legal to fly
up four hundred feet even at night time since the
FAA began allowing that, and then law enforcement that flies
theirs and power companies that fly theirs to look at
lines mixed out with all the hysteria right now and
heightened awareness that more people are looking toward the sky
(04:47):
and may not know what they're looking at, or maybe
trying to get some online hysteria going on even if
they do know what it is and reporting this stuff
in like the former governor of Maryland who posted everyone
and went look he saw the and then turned out
it was a constellation. O'Ryan then that he was looking
at the stars in the sky. So I mean there
are mistakes that are being made too, and a lot
(05:08):
of airplanes that are being identified, but those who are
seeing these things, especially in New Jersey and in New York,
they say that we don't understand that they are really
big and unusual objects and that this is not an
everyday thing. Matthew Morello is a mayor in New Jersey,
telling us.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
I'd like to think that there's no danger. They haven't
had any aggressive patterns, they haven't done anything other than
hover fly in erratic patterns. But if they are up
there watching videoing or something, what are they looking at?
Speaker 3 (05:36):
And a good example on this whole thing is today
there was a reported setting of a drone over downtown
San Diego and police responded and they were tracking this
thing for an hour and trying to keep an eye
on it. And I just talked to Harvard Police in
San Diego and they said, oh yeah, at like one am,
that was a manned plane. That was a regular airplane
just flying around, but everybody freaked out. They looked up
and saw blinking lights in the sky and police were
(05:58):
called out and they didn't know what it was. So
it's not only on the East Coast. But the issue now,
the concern for the FBI is that people are going
to shoot at these things or hit them with lasers,
which is a problem they had with aviation anyway, and
that you're going to take down or you know, badly
damage an airliner or a police helicopter or something else.
(06:19):
The FBI in New Jersey, saying don't do that.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Are also concerned people will take matters into their own
hands and fire a weapon at an.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
Aircraft, which, you know, if it comes down, you may
realize that's not what you thought it was, and all
of a sudden you've brought down something with passengers on board.
There are about eight hundred thousand registered drones in the
US not illegal to fly them at night, so some
of this could be that as well. The thing that
we're being told now is download the Flight Radar twenty
four app because if you download the app and you
(06:47):
can see what planes are in the sky, if you
set the filters so that you can see pretty much everything.
Small drones aren't going to be on there, but been
anything that's a real aircraft that a lot of what
people may be wondering is going to be answered in
that app. That you say, what is that light in
the sun?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Guy?
Speaker 3 (07:00):
You look and say, oh, that's Delta Airlines. You look
over there, that's southwest. Oh, that's you know, a police
helicopter right there. And it answers a lot of this stuff,
but there's still a lot of unknowns what's going on
with the reports that are coming in and in New
Jersey and whatnot. But many of these are are explainable.
The other thing that I've seen online people wondering, with
(07:21):
eight hundred thousand registered drones out there, what if we
find out this is some kind of organized prank on
like a Reddit forum or something for everybody to go
out at six o'clock at night and fly their drones.
That now people are freaking out about it. No indication
that's what this is. But there are eight hundred thousand
registered drones that people have at home that they can
legally fly at night that may be coming into play
(07:43):
here as well.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
That's crazy flash mobs. Man, who didn't see you coming? Really? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Seen at the ball? You went, Well, that was weird,
But how did that happen? But you know, yeah, you
wonder in this case are we going to find out? Well,
this is an organized thing?
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Yeah? I'm blown away that there are eight hundred thousand
registered drones that is almost a million of those. It's
crazy to think about that, man. Yeah, very interesting. We'll
continue to follow it obviously. I like Stone. ABC News
out of Los Angeles. Enjoy your seventy eight and please
put a cover up on.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
You should wear a Saustice away.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yes see man, thank you, see you
