Speaker 1 (00:00):
He's part of our best Buckeye coverage and the Driven
Foundation is where you can find him. And I speak
of Roy Hall, who's joining us again. And by the way,
with the Driven Foundation, what's going on with them? Let's
start with that, Roy, what's going on with you guys,
the Driven Foundation and everything? Because you got a million

(00:21):
things going right now?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, a million things is good. Is good for outreach
and giving back right now, it's heavy in school programs.
We're in about fifteen to twenty schools around the state
of Ohio with mentorship and leadership programs for young men
and young girls too, and so we have a lot
of former Buck guys who actually lead the programs up

(00:43):
Doug Wordington, Solomon Thomas, Tyler, Evert to name a couple.
But they spend time every single week in middle and
high schools and even some upper elementary schools working with
kids building their leadership and character skills and confidence and
self esteem and having a positive attitude. We're real heavy
in that right now during the winter, and we're also

(01:03):
running a after school program over Johnson Park Middle School
which has been absolutely awesome, and so we're heavy into
the curriculum right now in regards to young people and students,
and then when we kind of come out the spring
and head into the summer, that's when we kind of
get back to the nady gritty of large outreach events

(01:24):
that impact people's basic humuniteds.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
I was just looking at this email because I'm on
your list there, and yeah, I saw that you mentioned
Johnson Park Middle School and that was this after school
program that the Driven Foundation was doing and the hands
on activities. I'm looking at the email right now. And
for Valentine's Day, each student created their own flower arrangement
for a family member to express gratitude, which I think

(01:48):
is always really cool, especially when you talk about giving
the gifts and the focus on the kindness and the
care and appreciation. This is what our society needs more
of right now. Man, I'm serious. There cannot be enough
of these kinds of things and the stuff that the
Driven Foundation as well as I'm sure all your partners

(02:09):
are involved in, and especially with all the negativity with
the youngsters today, we are up up against something really
serious for our future to try to teach the positivity
and all of the things that young people need to
latch onto, not all this social media negativity, bullying, all
this other stuff that seems to be happening at a

(02:31):
fever pitch. You know, I've got eleven year old son,
my daughter's nineteen, and we're right in the thick of
it as far as you know, trying to Man, it's
just such a battle all the time, Roy, you know,
with kids and stuff. So this is powerful and it's
really cool that you're at the nucleus of this.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Yeah, I appreciate that. Man, I appreciate that encouragement. It
is one of those things where if you don't do it,
it won't get done. It's really that simple. And we
can complain as much as we want about the side
see in young people and how things are changing and
different and these kids are different than it was quote
unquote back in our day. But what I like to

(03:09):
tell the kids, and what I like to tell adults
when I get an opportunity to speak to them when
I'm traveling around speaking and motivating adults as well, is
don't complain. Contribute, Like, stop complaining so much and start
contributing to the solution. And as long as you're opening
your mouth to say what's wrong, you are a part
of the problem. I really believe that wholeheartedly. Anybody can stop,
buy a local elementary school, whether you have a child

(03:31):
or not, and volunteer just to be the pencil paths
are outer, right, Like just be the guy who has
pencils in the hallway when people need pencils, Or what
does it feel like to just go to Dunkin Donuts
or whatever your local donut shop is. Rush's is my favorite,
and to deliver a dozen donuts to the people working
inside of the office. I mean, those are the types
of things that people need and kids need to see. Like,

(03:55):
you go and you serve, and you go and you
get back. What's the point in living a life where
you work in sixty seven the hours to make ends meet,
so to speak, or work in sixty seventy hours and
have a lot of nice things, but you can literally
look across the pond and see that there are people struggling.
And so we just decide with driven that we just
want to be as hands on as possible, be as

(04:15):
creative as possible. Having young people make flower arrangements for
Valentine's Day, that takes it off of being all this
is about a lovey w holiday, about romance and puts
it in position like, hey, I love my mom more
than anything. I love my grandparents or my foster parents
more than anything. And what came out of that that
was most encouraging is there was two young people who
were in the sixth grade that said they didn't even

(04:37):
know that being a florist was a thing or owning
an own flower shop was a thing. And they're like, hey,
that's something that I could see myself doing for a living.
So when you start to open up the ideas and
the creativity of young people, man, beautiful things happen.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Yeah, that's cool.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
It's a great thing, man, It's a great thing driven foundation,
Very very cool. He's part of our best buck Eye coverage.
Roy Hall's joining us right now. Hey, we talked a
little bit ago. Uh, there is a national reporter for
ABC News who was reporting on this brotherly shove or
what they're nicknaming the tush push in the NFL. Right now,
you know that you know what I'm talking about, the

(05:13):
one yard or less to go, Yeah, and so on
and so forth, And now they're talking about possibly banning
this thing. Green Bay Packers were the ones that filed
and they're looking into this. Do you have thoughts on
this because we were like what what? Like the NFL
needs to stay out of this is ridiculous what's going on?

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Some teams don't get to do that, and some teams
are good.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
At It's like, oh, please be quiet, and I don't
know where you come down on this, but I'm gonna
guess that you're you're kinda the way that I feel.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
But yeah, I guess you could be not you could
be the other way.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Well, here's the thing here, don't see so first this
is opening up a huge conversation. Come on, man, don't
say maybe you know you know me? Man, you just
basically told the people that we don't really like, we're
not friends and we're friends. You know. I'm gonna be
on the same side that you. Why are you been
giving me an option to go to other way?

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Number one?

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Can you make that whiny voice again? Because I've never
heard you heard you put your voice in that pit before,
never heard.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Then we gotta do the brotherly nobody else. Why do
we Some teams are so better at it than we are.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
It's like, please stop whining your grown men forgot man?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
The next day, the next time you gotta do an
ad or a spot man, like you need to do
it in that voice. You need to do that, boy.
We need to have them pay for that. Boy. The
other thing is, I don't like the name Tush push
like Brussels Frosts earlier man. And if you talk about
Tush push man, Brussels frous do something to your stomach. Brother,
I don't know what it is. They do something immediately.

(06:45):
It's like a thirty seven minute window to consume them
and then they coming out of you. I don't understand,
but no, but I think it's ridiculous that you got
the owners and gms trying to ban a play that
nobody can stop. Look, it's not like if you want
to do it, to have your quarterback do it. But
they don't want to have. Green Bay Packers are apparently
the people who are the culprits. They don't have a

(07:08):
quarterback who can do it. Jalen hurts squat six hundred
and fifty pounds religiously. Jordan, though he's put in a
position to where he can actually do it. Now, Jordan
Love or Kirk Cousins or whoever, ain't trying to get
behind center and have that much physical contact. So that's
all it is. They're just jealous of a quarterback.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yep, yeah, I figured that's probably where you come down
on this. All right, let's shift gears so we don't
run out of time. But so we've got a record
fifteen Ohio State football players headed for the NFL Combine.
You know when you hear NFL Combine, what do you
think of when you I mean you go back to
when it was part of your uh your days, when

(07:49):
you when you were involved in that, Like, what what
do you think? First of all? And it's very special
right that OSU has this many guys that are.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Going No, it's awesome, man, fifteen plays is just that
usually happens when you win a national title. To have
that many guys. Usually, if you get invited to the combine,
it's almost a locked unless you completely ruin it in
put of some terrible numbers that you're gonna get drafted.
So we could have upwards of fifteen guys drafted and
maybe even more depending on if God's shine at the

(08:18):
Pro day. So it's definitely an honor to be there,
but you're locked in. Man, this is a very stressful
time imagining that you just at the highest of the
highs and now you're literally starting over. You win a
national title, raising the trophy in the middle of January,
and then here we are at the middle of February,
middle to the end of February, and you've got to
prove yourself to these billionaires that you're worth being drafted,

(08:41):
of being a part of their their program. And so
it's a stressful time. You got anxiety, You want to
run fast, are you prepared, do you have enough time?
Is your technique right? And everything's being evaluated, from the
way that you talk to people, to the way that
you respond to questions, to obviously how you do on
the own field activity. So it's great that those guys

(09:02):
are there. And the other thing is they're not teammates anymore.
Every single person is playing against and competing against each other.
So if you have two guys in the offensive line
from Ohio State, uh competing, you got Donovan Jackson and
Josh Simons, Like, those guys are competing against each other
because they want to get drafted before each other. So
it's no longer teammates. It's really just trying the best

(09:23):
man wins.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
So I also saw that the quote was what's unusual. No,
Buckeye is likely to be taken near the top of
the first round. U. Then they talk about late late
first round, possibly a Mechagbuka may not have and this
was in the article Buka may not have a lead
athleticism by NFL standards. And then you know, they talk

(09:45):
about Donovan Jackson. You mentioned it could be another first rounder.
Guards tend to not be taken that high. I'm looking
over some of this. What I also thought was interesting too, Roy,
is that running by running backs have been devalued in
recent years, according to this article, and the tide may
be reversing. And they say that's given, you know, Saquon
Barkley and Jamir Gibbs and so on. But Trevion Henderson

(10:09):
quinch On Judkins could be the beneficiaries of this.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
So do you see anybody.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Going really high in the first round, And I know
you don't have a crystal ball, But it all depends
on kind of what they do during the combine, right, Yeah,
a lot of.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
It at the combine, plays plays a party. And now
here's the thing. If you get a guy like a
Mecca Buka who runs and he comes out and runs
like a four to three to two or something crazy,
something hot, like low number that nobody thinks he can.
They just said he's not that athletic, which is a lie.
But if he ran like a four to three to
two or fourth, like a low four to three, you
could see him shoot up those boards because people didn't

(10:46):
know he was that fast. I think Josh Simon, like
the offensive tackle who got hurt earlier in the year,
I think he slotted to go somewhere maybe in that
ten to fifteen range, but combine times forty times always helped.
The running back position that you mentioned Blade is interesting
because those guys did have some success. The thing with
Trevion Henderson that he showed is he could catch a ball,

(11:09):
you know, just like in the Texas game, and take
it to the house like in the instance. So those
are things that are gonna work to his advantage. He's
probably gonna be like the second round guy, but that
second round, third round range, you'll find some crazy value
you have the running back position specifically, are the guys
that are former Buckeys.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Would you say, though, like when you get to the NFL,
you know everybody's fast, and then people who are fast
they're used to having are faster even and you got
somebody like Trevion who who you know, you roll him
out and you know, people start sleeping on him and
then they dump something off to him. He's got the
speed to take it to the house, like you were
just saying. But in the NFL it's a little bit

(11:47):
different because you do have more people that could run
you down that say. You know, for instance, in a
college game, you think that's accurate or no, no.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
It's pretty accurate. Some of the schemes, some of his
game planning. He could still the fact that he's he
could take it to the house versus like to the
athletes in Texas, he could probably do it in the NFL.
But a seventy five yard touchdown then college turns into
maybe a forty yard game in the NFL, and then
you line it back up again. But just the fact
that he has that breakaway speed and now the ability

(12:16):
they could line him up as a kickoff returner, he
could take it to the house from a kickoff return standpoint.
And let me correct you one time. I don't correct
you off that you said when you make it to
the NFL, everybody's fast. I will bet any amount of
money that I've ever made my life. If for whatever reason,
you found yourself in the NFL, you will not be fast.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
No, That's why I would never be in it. That's
what I'm trying.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Hey, the other way, I'm fast as if you're like,
there's a dozen donuts down the way, and I might
be able to be a little faster. But no, it
just seems like at that level you got linemen who
can run down people like in college maybe the NFL
level because they're fast.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Even you got three hundred pound guys who are fast.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
And it's all relative term obviously when you're talking about fast,
but it just seems like it's just a different it's a
different gear that's associated with the NFL because that's what
the owners are looking for, and that's what everybody seems
like they possess at that level.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
You know, not only is that it's just like little
things like angles. You always hear it takes three or
four years and the game starts to slow down. It's
not that the game is slowing down, it's that your
brain is speeding up in regards to how you process information.
Tom Brady did a great job to Michigan guys. But
Tom Brady did a great job kind of breaking down

(13:29):
what his superpower was, and he said his ability to
dicet defenses and know what they were doing and more
than they actually knew what they wanted to do, is
how he was able to be defenses. You only learn
that by getting your brain up to speed, and so
it allows things to slow down. So where it seems
like a guy may be that much faster, it's just

(13:49):
that he knows how to anticipate better than the average person.
So it's an exciting time. Man going to the NFL
where a dream come true for me. Peyton Manning was
Locker was right across her mind. Imagine seeing Peyton Manning
on TV and then actually seeing how big his head
is and real like the craziest thing ever. You're like,
oh my god, bro, like you have like three four

(14:10):
head like crazy.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Yeah, that's called a five minute Yeah, absolutely. The thing
is too roy about him. We've seen he is a
very very funny guy. And you got to you had
a front row seat for all us, so you know
all of that.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
But man, we could go on.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
I that's in a conversation in and of itself.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
He's a funny dude.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
I've seen him do skits like on SNL and different stuff,
and he just has a great funny bone. He's got
good comedic timing. And you want to talk about like
football IQ his cerebral it's elevated. It's Tom Brady esque,
you know.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
I mean he's a He's a special guy, no question
about that. Man.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
That was cool brains in.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
He's got to I love it.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
Hey, One things for sure, We're gonna have a bunch
of OSU guys playing on Sunday again, because man, we
just seem to we just litter the NFL all up
with OSU guys. I love it and I can't wait
to be watching on Sundays and seeing where everybody ends
up and so on. But Roy Hall, Man, we've taken
up like I think about what half your day now?

Speaker 3 (15:12):
So I appreciate you hanging with us. Man, Thank you
like a fly?

Speaker 2 (15:16):
What do you mean half Monday? It's been like twenty minutes.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Well that's good. I'm glad you feel that way because
I started thinking like, man, I've taken a lot of
his time.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
He's probably like I've been on the phone now with
you for four hours.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
That's enough already.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Man. I love you. I love you guys. Man Chuck,
stay quiet, but I love you.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
We love you too, Brother Roy Hall, part of our
best Buckeye coverage driven foundation.

Speaker 3 (15:35):
Thank you so much man. We'll talk again soon, brother,
