Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hello everyone, it's Friday afternoon.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Hopefully you're driving home, ready to take some R and
R and have a good weekend. I love Dan's intro
how it references University of Colorado.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
It reminds me.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
That this is a very very important weekend that Travis
Hunter is likely to be named the Heisman winner.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I am so excited about that.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
He's such a bright light at CEU, one of my
favorite players that's ever played for CU. He so deserves
the honor. I hope they follow through on that and
nothing goes wrong. But I'm really really excited about this weekend.
And Ryan, I was going to see if you had
the CU fight song to open up with.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
Welcome back with an for sure.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
In honor of Travis, we got to give him some Absolutely,
I'm so excited. Also, I wanted to go to the collar,
but first he wants to comment on the Mexican border.
Did you hear that the government was going to auction
off the wall pieces.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Yeah, terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
I mean, that's just.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
A slap in the face to the voters across this
country that voted for this to be taken care of.
And so I just looked at a tweet from Dan Patrick,
who's the attorney general down in Texas, and he said
to him and the governor spoke last night about purchasing
the wall material that he's auctioning off to it, and
the governor had already instructed TFC Texas whatever that is
that oversees the wall construction, to look at what Biden
(01:33):
was selling. Turns out the stuff that they're selling was
mostly junk, with panels covered in concrete and rust. There
were a few panels that were usable, but not worth
the cost of shipping to Texas from Arizona. So in short,
he says, this was a Biden ruse to gain favor
with the radical left open border crowd, showing.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Biden was fighting President Trump to.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
The bitter end. That is lame.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
I know it's lame.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
All right, Let's go to Warren and color to Springs,
who has a comment on the Mexican border.
Speaker 5 (02:00):
Yeah, but it's about the kind of comment you think
it's going to be. It relates to what's going on
over in Europe. But let me ask you a hypothetical question.
You were around when President Reagan was president, right, yes, okay,
you remember the nearly eighties things the Cold War was
getting a little warmer. There was talking when a nuclear
war and a Reagan called the Russia the Evil Empire,
(02:22):
and things are pretty warm. This better a question has
to do with the Mexican border. Let's just say, for
hey example, that a president was elected Mexico that was
very socialistic in nature, extremely almost like that, maybe like
the guy that runs Venezuela, and relations would have gotten
really bad between our country and Mexico. Not declared war anythin,
(02:45):
but just really bad. And as a result, let's say
the Mexican president and his government contacted the Warsaw Pact
and asked if they could become a member of the
Warsaw Pact, and the worst out Pact said yes, we
will be coach the Mexican become a member of the
War South Pact. What do you think this government and
(03:05):
Reagan's response.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Would have been, I don't know, you tell me, Warren.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
It's not the same as it was when the Russians
went in the Cuba in nineteen sixty two when I
was twenty two years old, and with nuclear war.
Speaker 6 (03:21):
Yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Well, so the question is the second question, the last one.
Why is it okay for the United States to have
since eighteen twenty three a Monroe doctrine that says those
European country can come over to the Western hemisphere. That's
not just Canada, Mexico and the US, that also wu's
all of South America and Central America. Why is it
(03:45):
okay for US to have a Monroe doctrine with countries
that are six thousand miles of land, the six thousand
miles away from our country, But Russia can't have that
kind of a doctrine on the possible military organization right
on the border.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I don't know, Warren.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
What do you think we should do about it? What
do you think President Trump should do about it?
Speaker 5 (04:07):
Well? I think he should do is get a hold
of a Putin and Sorensky, get him together and sign
a peace agreement based on the way the situation is.
Right It's pretty much close to the way it is
right now. No NATO enlargement, and I don't know how
they can what they have to do about the land.
They could have an argument or a debate about that,
(04:30):
but the guarantee because the part that bringing NATO into
it is a lot of people, a lot of people
in the American government were highly against that and plans administration,
George Cannon, Bill Burns. They all thought, no, this is
a bad idea. It's going to blow upon us. Well
they were proved right, grew up on us because the
Russians don't want They had twenty five million people killed
(04:53):
by German army in World War Two. That's one hundred
thousand per week to the confluenci So they're deronically paranoid
about their boat and you can't blame them right.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Right well, as we should be right now because a
lot of bad things are coming across.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
The border here.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
And thanks Warren for the call. I really appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
We're going to go to the next call, which is
a comment on the governor's race.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Dean in Oravada.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Hey there, how you doing tonight?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Good Dean? How are you?
Speaker 7 (05:22):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (05:22):
Good?
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Hey?
Speaker 7 (05:23):
I won't keep this too long and lengthy and boring.
You know these guys that keep running, there's got to
be under the table money they're getting insiders trading, I mean,
taking the Looper's seventy two years old. I don't really
care what party if they keep keep running, I don't
know why we just can't vote them out, but they
(05:45):
just keep winning with you know, the I'm not going
to say there's voter fraud on every level, but my god,
why do we keep putting the same people in like
Einstein mcconnald. I mean, it's just getting like.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
Oh my god, tired of it.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
And that's about all I have to say than you.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
That's a great comment, Dean, Thanks for that, and I agree.
I think it comes down to name recognition and people
have a sense of nostalgia or something. When they see
Hickenlooper's name, they think of him as the guy they
want to sit down and have a beer with, not
the seventy two year old that's kind of checked out
and not really paying attention to what's going on federally
or representing Colorado.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Well.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
But I just think at the end of the day,
the reason incumbents get elected so many times, I think
it's like ninety five percent or some crazy high numbers.
It's just goes down to who they recognize on the ballot,
which is really unfortunate. And that's actually why money is
so important in these races, because if they can convince
(06:44):
or even like talk about candidates on air on digital
in flyers, then you're going to create a recognition in
your brain when you see the ballot, and you're probably
going to pick the name that you feel most familiar with,
even if you don't understand the policies that they have,
which is unfortunate, and it's part of the reason we
started Rocky Mountain Voice. To be honest, Ryan, we realized
(07:05):
after the twenty two election that people really weren't that educated.
They were either checked out, they were tired of the
liberal news media here in Colorado. They needed a different source,
they needed a different way to get their news, and
so we looked.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
At models around the country and we thought.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
You know, I think it's time to give conservatives and
libertarians a different side of the story. And so we
admit we're unabashedly right of center. We give a different perspective.
But we're growing like crazy, and we've got so many
great citizen journalists across the state. We have over thirty
citizen journalists who write for US now and it's.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
We're gaining every week.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
And we've got a great editor, Brian Porter, who managed
all the papers up in northeastern Colorado. He knows the
rule the people of rural Colorado. We understands what they
care about. So I'm really excited to keep growing it
and serving people a different side of the story and
really break down that liberal news narrative because they haven't
had any competition for a long time. I know, we've
(07:59):
got the Gazette and Sean Boyd, who's a great reporter,
but we share the Gazette. We want to get a
bigger platform for the good conservative voices out there, and
that's why we're doing it. So if you're interested, to
go to Rockymountain Voice dot com sign up. It's all free.
You can subscribe to the newsletter. Google one of those
guys don't necessarily like us, so you're gonna have to
check your spam folder.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
I mean, like it's ridiculous, but yeah, and tell us
how to get better, tell us how to serve you better.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
It's a great starting point, though, and I love it
as a launching pad, and I think it's the wave
of the future, as we saw in this campaign hide
you these new forms of media, people are seeking out
their own sources, doing their own homework and to have
everything at one central hub like Rocky Mountain Voice does.
It's a great go to site if you're an avid
listener of this show, this is where you want to go.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
And Heidi's done a great job putting it all together.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Well thanks Ryan, And I also think X you got
to get.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
On X yep.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
I know a lot of people don't feel comfortable with it.
Reach out to Ryan or me on Twitter and we'll
help you. But it's really really important, and you can
start to craft who you like and who you listen
to and who you trust, and you can kind of
build your own little news source cabal, like who you
want to hear from every day.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
I like Vigilani Fox. Have you ever seen that?
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Ryan?
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Oh? Big time? Yeah, great? Follow I love it.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
It's like the ten most shocking stories that the liberal
media are not covering every day, and it's things that
you won't hear in the mainstream media.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
Well just one quick example before we go to break
and Dan Bongino was breaking this down yesterday, as was
I Jesse Waters, others of us that are on the right,
And we see this bias inherently, whether it's Politico or
somebody else on this IG report regarding the January sixth
FBI assets agents, confidential sources, however you label them.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Were they there that day?
Speaker 6 (09:43):
Well, yes, twenty six of them more, but many of
these mainstream legacy news media outlets we're reporting it as
IG clears FBI of any wrongdoing.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
No agents on the ground, and it's like, well, not.
Speaker 6 (09:56):
Uniformed, hired agents on the payroll with a pension, but rats.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
There were plenty of rats there that day.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yeah, that was That was such a crazy situation. When
I was running getting asked about that. I remember John
Frank with Axios, he was like, will you call January
sixth and insurrection? I was like, it was a bad
day for America, no matter how you talk about it.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
But he was relentless and he just would not let
it go.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
And I'll nip it in the bud right here for
these wacko leftists.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
I hate that day. I hate what it did to
us politically.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
Let me just say that out front, however, had there
been an insurrection with the people on our side, do
they storm a Capitol building completely unarmed?
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Good point. No good point.
Speaker 6 (10:40):
If it were an insurrection, come on, be honest with
us left, They're not going to go in there with
just you know, clubs and signs or whatever else they had.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Yeah, I think I think a lot more is going
to come out about that, Like everything else that tapped
into the last few years, We're going to learn the truth,
hopefully when Trump.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Gets into office. So I think we've got a head
to a brain.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
So this is Heidi Ganall filling in for Dan Kaplis,
who just won his trial.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
I'll see you right after this.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
And now back to the Dan Kaplis Show podcast.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Woo go see you. This is Heidi Gannall filling in
for Dan Kaplis, a fellow buff.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
We've got a big weekend ahead. Shout out to Travis
who's going to win the Heisman.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Right Ryan.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
I used to be a Heisman voter, you see.
Speaker 6 (11:26):
I was about ten years ago and I voted back
to back years for Baker Mayfield. Yeah. I remember, we're
a quarterback for Oklahoma and he won one of those years.
I felt he deserved it both years. I like Travis
Hunter's chances. He's made a big splash in big games.
He's got a recognizable name and personality. He plays for
Colorado with coach prime is Ashton Junt. I think it
(11:47):
is the running back for Boise State. I think will
be his primary competition, and Boise State is in the playoff.
It's a little bit smaller school, a little bit lower profile,
but it's got a big brand name in football.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
So this is going to be tough.
Speaker 6 (12:00):
I think it's going to be very close, and I
think it comes down to those two.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
Did you hear Travis make the comment that he loves
Colorado he doesn't want to leave, And I'm like, Broncos,
is that even a thing? I don't know how the
draft really works.
Speaker 6 (12:12):
I mean, Denver, you would figure would have a mid
to late first round pick, and that would probably be
too late for Travis Hunter, who's going to I think
go very high as Will Shoulder Sanders. Yeah, as quarterback.
There's a chance that Shuder might go to the Raiders.
Oh no, well, they're gonna be picking very high and
he's highly regarded ry and you're killing right.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
It would be terrible, But wouldn't it be something though?
Speaker 6 (12:35):
I Shador went to the Raiders and Travis Hunter somehow
fell to the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
That would make for good football. Oh that's gonna be
fun to watch it playoff. Boy, this has been a
great couple of years. I'm I'm really excited about the
new draft pick, like the people were bringing in to
see you. But I'm also going to be a little
bit sad to see those guys go go in.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
The Ali Morbles should be fun too.
Speaker 6 (12:57):
What I like about that is what Coach Prime said.
You know, these are two guys that we just talked about.
They could very easily set this ball out and they
don't want to get hurt. I would understand that to
prepare for the draft and not hurt their stock. But
it seems like Dion is adamant. These guys are going
to play, and it seems like they want to play.
And what a way to go out against BYU right, Amable,
Are you going to go?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (13:18):
What?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
No, I can't go.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
I've got some stuff going on here, but which kills me,
believe me. But my first event that I did as
a regent after I was elected in twenty sixteen, so
it would have been over Christmas break. Right after that
was the Alamobile I think we played Oklahoma State. I
remember that it didn't go well, but it was fun.
It was my first thing that I did as a
CU regent, and that was that was quite quite.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
A lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
And then the last thing I did as a CEU
regent was approved Deon Sanders contract.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Oh, not a bad way to go out there, hiding.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I'm pretty proud of myself. I'm shut myself on the back.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
It's a pretty darn good hire right there.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
I love Dion. Oh my gosh. We were talking this warning.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Jeff Hunt and I were talking about how for six
years as a regent, most of the conversation centered around
diversity in equity, and we hired like seventy eight different diversity.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
People to try and solve the problem.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
And they couldn't budge the numbers. They would I mean,
they were spending so much money on it. And guess
what helped solve the diversity problem at.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
SeeU, Deon Sanders.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Yeah, applications went crazy for African American.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Kids across the country.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Hispanic kids like, it's it's incredible, how what an impact
he's had. And the funny thing is the two regents
that were so focused on diversity were totally against CU football.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
They didn't even want football.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
To exist, and here we go hiring Deon Sanders and
it totally you know, impacts it in a positive way.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
And my mom used to be so anti football and like, ah,
they don't really go to class and they don't do
the same thing.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
And I'm like my mom, it's part of the whole.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
College experience, and it's part of the culture of the
whole campus and we all go tailgating and go to
the games together. It brings the whole community of the
university together. And like you said, it gives you hope,
It gives you something to root for. It gives you
a magnet for recruiting, not only in football, but in applications.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
For just over you know, regular students.
Speaker 6 (15:11):
So what a what a win for Colorado and hiring
Dion Sanders.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Well, I don't know if my buff friends out there
remember when Linda Schumaker did like interviews, she was a
very left leaning regent, did interviews with like sports illustrators,
some big magazines saying that it like concussions and injuries
and like it really didn't have a place going forward
to see you. And then Jack Kroll came out talking
about how he worked in the admissions office he was
(15:36):
one of the other regents and he said, oh, admissions
isn't impacted by football at all, Like it's not even
a factor. And then this it just explodes after Dion
Sanders becomes our coach. I mean, our application rates are
crazy over the top.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
It's see you, Roof is right there in the numbers.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
Didn't mean to go on that rant, but Friday, come on,
let's go go bubs before we bring on Marla Reiker,
a dear friend of mine me on the Road to
Red project. She's a big leader on that front. I
want to talk about the school board issue again. Twenty
twenty five has got to be the year of the
school board races for Colorado Conservatives, and we've got to
(16:12):
make sure that we focus our energy and time and
resources on some specific races that we can actually win
or have a chance to flip or hold. So this
week Tuesday night, I went to the Douglas County school
Board meeting because it's so much fun. It's so much
fun to go to a school board meeting. It usually
lasts till midnight. It's incredibly intense. People are really angry,
(16:34):
lots of emotions flying. Part of it's really boring, but
a really important decision was made, and that was to
send a new potential charter school, a classical charter school,
out of the John Adams Network to the CSI board.
It's called it's like almost like a separate school district
for charter schools. And that means it was released from
Douglas County. And do you know why they released it,
(16:56):
Ryan or they wanted to get it released because they're
afraid that the board's going to and the politics are
going to become nasty again and they'll be basically mean
to the schooler, won't let them do how teach how
they want to.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
So that leads to my next.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Kind of step here is we've got to hold Douglas
County the school board down there. We've got some important
races there, so that's a really important race. We've got
Jefferson County Board that we could potentially flip. We've got
Adams twelve, Saint Rain, and Cherry Creek. Now all of
these are in the Denver metro areas. So no matter
where you live, you can help with this. You can
reach out to the various folks in your county who
(17:33):
are involved in the school board races. Just talk to
your county chair or your precinct leader. They'll know who
they are. Get involved. Now we've got to start working
on that now, and start reaching out to voters, getting
good candidates to run, and start working on those races.
Also in rural areas we've got, we're going to try
really hard to help flip Laplata, which is Durango. Things
(17:55):
have gone off the rails down there. I don't know
if you've seen what's going on with the flags and
the clubrooms and the whole woke agenda.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
It's pretty bad.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
And then Montrose they're making it really tough to get
some new charter schools or schools put in place there.
And then Summit County. So take your pick, guys, you've
got I think I.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Listed eight races there.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Somebody adopt a race, and that's the most important thing
you can do in twenty twenty five to help us
turn this state around. Now, after we do that, we'll
have some really good experience, we'll have some good knowledge
about how things.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Are working in Colorado.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
We're going to try a lot of things about organizing
and activating people, and what we'll be able to do
is take those lessons into twenty twenty six for a
very very important election when we have all the state
wide races, the congressional races, you name it, the legislature,
and I have a feeling twenty six will be a
good year if we focus on the school board races
and get organized on the ground and meet people where
(18:51):
they are. This is Heidigan All. I'm filling in for
Dan Kaplis. We'll be right back after the break.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
You're listening to the Dan Kaplis Show podcast.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Happy Friday, everybody. I hope you're driving home or somewhere
to have fun. It's Heidi Ganal filling in for Dan Kaplis.
I have a great friend and coworker, co leader, co
warrior with me right now, Marla Reiker.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Marla, are you on the line.
Speaker 8 (19:29):
I am Heidi. How are you this beautiful Friday.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
I'm doing great. I'm doing great. Marla.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
You live in the beautiful town of Pueblo, Colorado, and there's.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Been a lot of good things going on down there.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
If you're a conservative, why don't you tell folks a
little bit about the wins you guys have seen in
Pueblo over the last couple elections.
Speaker 8 (19:49):
Oh my gosh, we are so blessed. We've got great
leadership in both the local party. Michelle Gray is a
rock star, our national committeewoman Christie lives down in Pueblo,
and there's a collection of about six grassroots organizations that
(20:10):
work together and they all have their own piece of
the puzzle. But listening to you talk about football, it's like,
you know, Michelle's the coach, she's calling the plays and
developing the strategy. And Jonathan's the offensive coordinator with all
this really cool data, and Christie's a defensive coordinator. She's
doing optics events and flag waves and you know, parades
(20:30):
and just like letting people know it's okay to be
conservative and having a good time doing it.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
So we have.
Speaker 8 (20:39):
Flipped the Publo City Council, have a Republican mayor. We
have the first time majority Republican Board of County Commissioners.
I believe it's the first time in Pueblo history. One
of two school boards completely flipped, and seats on the
second school board. We're going to go get some more
(21:00):
this next cycle. So I mean, they're just firing on
all cylinders and it's you united, and it's teamwork and
it's fun and he's fun.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Marlow. Didn't you guys go for Trump too?
Speaker 8 (21:13):
Oh my gosh, yes, by over four thousand votes. We
went for Trump in twenty sixteen by like four hundred
and eighty votes, and in this cycle they just widened
the margin significantly, So four thousand votes.
Speaker 5 (21:27):
And it's really.
Speaker 8 (21:28):
Impactful you when you realize that thirty percent of the
registered voters in Public County or Democrats and only twenty
three percent are Republicans.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Wow, and I understand you had great Republican turnout though, yes.
Speaker 8 (21:43):
Ninety one point eight percent. I feel like we should
get T shirts made.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
I'm going to make you a T shirt because that
is awesome. I mean, Pueblo is the model for the
rest of the state at this point.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
What did you do to make that happen?
Speaker 8 (21:59):
Oh gosh, it's well, it's a team. It's a team effort.
Like I said, there are six grassroots organizations and probably
more that aren't, you know, currently working with Roger Red.
But they're out there doing great work and everybody's got
their little piece of the puzzle. So it comes down
to I'm sorry, I'm stuck in football mode.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
Now, that's good, it's perfect. After talking about the buffs
the who last.
Speaker 8 (22:23):
Segment, right, basic blocking and tackling. Right, it's voter contact
and building relationships and finding out what voters really care about.
And you know, it turns out that no surprise to us,
but voters don't care about some of these like wild
progressive agenda items as much as they care about living
in a safe community and being able to afford gas
(22:44):
and groceries.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Boy, that's the truth, and I mean problem is just
a really cool city.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
It's a city of heroes. Can you tell people why
it's called that?
Speaker 8 (22:53):
Oh, home of heroes? Has a Pueblo has more Medal
of Honor recipients than any other city in the entire country,
And there are four big bronze statues outside of our
convention center commemorating their sacrifice and service. It's a very
very patriotic town. And there's just a good, hard working,
(23:15):
blue collar community that believed in family and the value
of a good day's work. And you know, it's I
don't know, it's I grew up there, so it's obviously
the country I grew up in, But I think it's
a snapshot of so many places across the country where
(23:38):
people just want to be free to raise their families
and live their lives kind of unburdened by government. Not
to paraphrase former candidate.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Paris's Yeah, that's funny.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
I think that if we take some of the things
that have worked well in problem and talk about them
around the rest of the state in conservative circles, I
think we can share a lot of great stories, have
a lot of success, and hopefully win even more elections.
I was just talking about the school board races next
year twenty twenty five. We've got many, and I narrowed
it down to about eight that we might focus on,
(24:15):
including Laplata, Montrose Summit, and then holding Douglas County, going
after Jefferson County, Adams Twelve, Saint Rain, Cherry Creek. What's
your best advice for flipping those races, since you guys
were so effective at doing that down in Pueblo.
Speaker 8 (24:30):
We just talking to parents and giving them the power
to direct the education of their own children. Like we
have some crazy radical curriculum that was offered to our
rural school district but tied to a seven hundred thousand
dollars grant, but very deep within that with some really
(24:53):
concerning stuff. So it's just a matter of getting parents informed,
and then the parents really drive the effort. They want
control over what their kids are exposed to.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
And have you heard good feedback since some of these
seats have gone the other way on the school board
about what's happening? Are you seeing that in the classroom
or hearing stories?
Speaker 8 (25:16):
We are seeing improvements in some test scores. We are
also seeing responsiveness at a level that's new. Going back
to this curriculum, this problematic the parents raised kine, and
the board paid attention. They didn't know some of this
(25:37):
stuff was buried, and so they're paying attention and they're
hearing the outcry of the parents and they're trying to
take out the problematic stuff. I don't know if they'll
be successful or if they need to just return the
ground and throw the whole thing out. That's still to
be determined. But there's responsiveness there when in the past
there wouldn't have been.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
One other thing interesting happened a couple of years ago, Marlon,
I don't know how much you know about the detail,
but you're placed your county clerk who had a pretty
crazy reputation down there. How did that play into what's
happening down in Pueblo, Oh.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
Our old friends, though good heavens, Kansas is a is
a Democrat.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
But and that's your current county for their current and.
Speaker 8 (26:24):
I mean, I have to give credit where credits due.
She's made some uh procedural improvements in the business offices
of the county, so you know, shout out to her
for that. But there seems to be uh better processes
and procedures around the elections. You know, there's still work
(26:46):
to be done there, but we're having better results now
that we have are free from both.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
And you have a city clerk also, right that ran
the city election when was elected mayor.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
Yeah, she did. She did an admirable job. That was
I was actually an election judge for that election, and
we had to do the manual processes that are done
scanning the signatures and things like that. We had to
do a lot of those things manually, and it's a
big lift. But the election results told the story. Yeah,
(27:28):
I agree, Bubblo is really ready for a change. They're
tired of the crime, they're tired of boarded up windows,
they're tired of needles on the street, not to mention
other things that are too impolite for the radio, but
people are tired of it. They want their community back,
(27:49):
and so they've chosen new leadership to make that happen.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
Well, Marla, thank you so much for joining us. You've
got some great feedback. We've got Pueblo as a model
for the rest of the state. We're going to get
to work and win some school board elections next year
and I know you're going to be a big part
of that. So have a wonderful weekend. And folks, this
is Heidigan All filling in for Dan Kaplis. I am
headed out after this break. Ryan's gonna wrap you up
and I hope you have an amazing weekend and hopefully
(28:15):
on Monday we can call Travis Hunter, the Heisman Trophy winner.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Have a great weekend, you guys, And now.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Back to the Dan Kaplis Show podcast. Well, I guess
technically we're having a third chance.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
What is he called, Kelly, when the regular teacher's out
and then the substitute teacher leaves early and then two
of the nerds in the class takeover.
Speaker 9 (28:36):
I don't know, but are we getting like a little
jump on our Spotify number one song of the year.
Speaker 6 (28:43):
It's funny you bring that up because I shared with
you they do that rapped.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
For Spotify, what your top five songs? What were your
top five artists?
Speaker 6 (28:50):
And this song because I play it so much from
my Spotify account.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
For Dan show, yep came in at number one.
Speaker 9 (28:58):
Well, it's funny. I also my raps and I Bet
you can't.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
Rat is part of your rapped?
Speaker 9 (29:06):
Nope, rat was number one, Motley Crue well, no, actually rat,
the Goo Goo Dolls, Diamonds quite a you too? Yeah,
and the Cult Well my top ones, but my top
song was rat. I want a woman, Okay, not some
(29:27):
little girl who had to grow up in daddy's little world.
Speaker 4 (29:30):
So it wasn't Rats Round and Round.
Speaker 9 (29:33):
Oh no, I told you that's not one of my favorites.
Speaker 4 (29:35):
That's their numbers their biggest.
Speaker 9 (29:37):
Hit though, I think it's their biggest hit, but not
their best song.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
So we were having some behind the scenes difficulties. Was
it the last two days or certainly yesterday? We had
some calls about people not being able to hear the show.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Can you correct?
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Do you have the details on that?
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (29:51):
So, unfortunately we had launched nationally. iHeart nationally, not just
I Heeart Colorado, a brand new app so you can
you know through your phone or your computer anything like that.
And unfortunately there were some technical difficulties without launch, so
it should be up and running as I understand it.
Speaker 4 (30:12):
I have an update and let's get right to that.
Speaker 6 (30:15):
So those of you who listen via the app, you're
going to be excited to know that the iHeartRadio app
is about to get even better. That's one step back,
two steps forward. By December seventeenth, iHeartRadio App users will
enjoy a redesigned look and experience with industry first features
blending the full capabilities of streaming technology with the user
(30:38):
ease of listening to your car radio, including presets, a
scan button, live radio dial, and more. Listeners have made
it clear you want a streaming platform that reflects the
ease of a car radio.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
And guess what here it is.
Speaker 9 (30:51):
Yes, and by the way, we were not down on
the radio. We were still up on the radio. And
I believe we have archived the podcast.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
And seventeenth, be sure you've downloaded and updated the app
to hear your favorite shows on the totally free and
now redesigned iHeartRadio app. This is something I've been looking for, Kelly.
I was looking to dial into a specific FM station.
So sometimes you go to the gyms around here and says,
(31:20):
if you want to listen to the audio that's on
this game for this TV, tune into one oh seven
point three FM.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
I couldn't get that on my phone. I tried to
download these apps.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
There's all kinds of ads and crap, you know, they
had to sift through and you can't. All I wanted
was my phone to work like an FM radio where
I could spin the dial one oh seven point three.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
There we go. Guess what I heeart app's going to do?
Speaker 8 (31:42):
That?
Speaker 2 (31:42):
You got it?
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Looking forward to that.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
Yes, any other problems we need to clear up before
we sign.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Off the day for Dan for the week.
Speaker 9 (31:48):
So I think it's been a good week. We've had
lots of great guests on your show and Dan Show,
and great fillins with KBB Heidi, George Brockler was great,
Debra Flora Flora. So you know we have a very
deep bench.
Speaker 6 (32:04):
Well we do, and just as it tastes and with
the opportunity that I have, be sure if you don't
live in the Denver market, if you live in Publow
or Colorado Springs or for Collins, anywhere in between Wyoming,
New Mexico, all points hither and yon to subscribe download
listen to my podcast that's Ryan Schuley Live. It airs
locally here in Denver two to four pm weekdays on
(32:25):
six point thirty k how and when you do, you
get very entertaining features like Based Fetterman and now everybody's
favorite Democratic Congress with another edition of Based Fetterman.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
Side with Peg Sith today and here's how that went.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Listen.
Speaker 6 (32:48):
We agreed that the Steelers are going to win, and
now he doesn't have a real opinion on sheets or wildlife.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
We had a meeting when we had a conversation.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
Right, That's what happened. Where we're at.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
There really is no new news after that conversation.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
No filter all the time. That's John Fetterman, folks. And
like Kelly and I were talking about during my show,
you know, when he was first elected, I'm like, look
at his wife, she's nuts and I don't know about him.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
He had the stroke or whatnot.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
Yes, he defeated doctor oz Guts another Democratic voting Congress.
But I got to tell you if it was between
McCormick got elected anyway, and McCormick should have been the
nominee instead of Oz against Fetterman the last time around,
and then McCormick wins Fetterman. If you got to have
a Democrat in the Senate, I'm okay with John Fetterman.
Speaker 9 (33:35):
You know, he's definitely made a turnaround for the better
and went toward the center because Pennsylvania is definitely steering right.
And I think he's doing exactly what he needs to do,
and he's setting a precedent that says I'm going to
do my own thing and don't try to pull me
in any sort of pigeonhole type of thing. I'm not
(33:56):
going to just go with you because you're Democrats.
Speaker 6 (33:59):
Colorado has a chance to add to their Heisman trophy
catalog and trophy room. If I'm not mistaken, and I
haven't followed Colorado football my entire life, but Cordell Stewart
was in the running for the Heisman way back when,
right about thirty years ago, quarterback right, and Rashaan Salam
the running back. Yeah, tragically passed away way too young. Yes,
he rest in peace.
Speaker 9 (34:19):
But I think Travis Hunter has it well.
Speaker 6 (34:22):
This Texter would agree with you, says Ryan. The last
I checked. I'm pretty sure. The odds for Hunter were
minus two thousand that would list him as a favorite,
and John Ty was at plus one thousand, so he's
an underdog. If you're thinking it may be close, you're
making me want to get down on Johnty, as a
one hundred dollars wager would yield one thousand dollars, and
the same bet would yield only five dollars per Hunter.
I do think Ashton Johnty has a very good chance.
(34:44):
He was a prolific running back on a playoff team.
Hunter's a little flashyer, though he's made big plays and
he plays both ways the way Dion did receiver and
corner for a very good Colorado team. And I'm with you, Kelly.
I think Travis Hunter takes from the Heisman on Saturday and.
Speaker 9 (34:59):
See what happened. But you know, go Colorado that.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
And make sure to watch Army Navy tomorrow.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
President Trump will be making an appearance and you've got
to believe there's gonna be a raucous reception for the
President elect, the forty seventh President the United States, for
Kelly cachera, Heidi Ganal and Ryan Shulding. Dan kaplis back
on Monday here on the Dan Kaplis Show.
