(00:02):
Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adamtalking your teams, Adam Clinton and Adam
Wexler are the A team A team. Those are your defending American League West

(00:22):
Division champion Houston Astros at zero tofour to open up the season. Now,
soak it all in. We hityou with the good and then we
hit you with the bad, sowe can probably go ahead and skip the
good, bad and the ugly lateron. Everything I think that could have
gone wrong went wrong in order forthe Astros to find their way to having

(00:48):
zero wins heading into the second seriesof the season. Three games that obviously
were very close, one game thatcertainly was not for starting pitchers that all
things considered, in their opening startsof the season, we're certainly capable of
earning wins in them. We thoughtframbers would be the worst, and honestly
it probably was. Back to backstarts from Javier and Brown where neither gave

(01:11):
up earned runs. JP Frantz wasbad lucked to the tune of three runs
allowed before he stepped aside during thatsixth inning, and then their bullpens said,
how about some BP Yankees, Aloss for Presley, a loss for
a Brew, A loss for haterall in the opening weekend of the season,

(01:33):
all at the hands of the JuanSoto led New York Yankees. Well,
that guy's been a choed since hewas in Washington, so nothing's really
changed. I mean, he wentout to San Diego for a spell and
now he's wearing pen stripes or willbe. We heard that a million times
over the weekend. Well he'll betrackromantics, Yeah, basically because they were
just plain gray. Right. Well, that's the Wexler side of the situation.

(01:59):
I like it. That's being veryaccurate. Well, you know if
it was a national broadcast on Saturday, Well, it was a national broadcast
on Friday too, if you hadApple. But you could have your cake
and eat it too if you hadApple. That's true, that's true.
But Saturday when they were on Fox, it's not. I'm not I'm easing
my way into the week. There'sa lot of rage built up here,

(02:20):
as many of you know that followme on social media. I just like
I was. You know, youheard me on Friday, came into the
auxiliary booth that Michael k was notusing that night for our show Friday,
talked to Blummer on the phone hada nice broadcast. Opening Day was great.
They came up a little short.Baseball is here, absolutely, and

(02:42):
you know, I it sucked, but oh and twos and two as four
game series. You know whatever,it's gonna be fine. Saturday happens.
Saturday was the rather lop side ofaffair after Hunter Brown left, and it
got lopsided very quickly for the samereasons it got lot you know, it
got out of hand the last twonights. Just this one was a little
bit more pronounced. And it wasat that point where I really began to

(03:07):
channel my inner Rob Reiner when inWolf of Wall Street he got interrupted watching
the equalizer, and I just itwas at that point, and I even
texted somebody. I said, well, I'm like, it's it's it's gotten
to the point where it's gotten outof hand, and now my family,
God, please tell me something inthe theater. As the Astros game become

(03:34):
became unraveled on Saturday to the pointwhere and again this is this is the
night before Easter. There's joyous occasionsin the morning with the little One,
the lily, blasphemy, what Iasked to read Easter and Juan Soto this
weekend probably probably. I mean,my little guys five and I'm trying to

(03:58):
hold it together. And he's gotEaster eggs to hunt in the morning,
and we're going over to Constellation Feelto do it and it's gonna be a
great And I absolutely now he didn'treally understand what was going on. I
closed the door, Like Teresa comesin to ask me a question, and
she sees the score and she knowswhat the score was not, you know,

(04:18):
two minutes before that, and shejust knows. You just see it.
Slowly closes the door, walks away. I hear them out in the
kitchen, and I just lost it. I'm just like, are we really
doing this? Are we really talkingabout a situation where you spent ninety five
million on a closer you can't evenget to and then when you do finally

(04:40):
get to him, he loses thegame too. So that's where I was
at. Yeah, I've calmed downnow a little bit. Yeah, not
Jess Reege's I Yeah, George Springer'sback. Welcome back, George. I'm
sure he'll hit five bombs off ofthis bullpen that sucks. It's just incredible
to me that you you feel Andagain, I'm gonna do this. I'm

(05:01):
gonna get in trouble for it,probably with the bosses, but I just
don't care. Jeff Bagwell absolutely sucksas a general manager. Really, yes,
really, because the two guys thathe was in charge of signing are
doing the same things they did lastyear. Hey guess what, Josea Brad
you I don't need you in mylineup ever. Again. I don't care
about your stupid postseason home runs. They didn't win a World Series with you

(05:24):
last year, so those do nothingfor me. But what does something for
me is that, for the majorityof your tenure here, making nineteen and
a half million a season, you'vedone absolutely jack bleep for the Houston Astros.
I don't care if you were back, was hurt last year, or
what have you that you're getting paidtwenty million a pop to do nothing,

(05:44):
to have no pop, You havenothing, You're washed, you're cooked,
all of those words. And thenMontero, let's talk about Montero doing Montero
things. I'm so tired of hearingabout. Well, he's not gonna pitch
every game, thank god, becauseif he did, that'd be a giant
waste of money too, which italready is, and I realized we're four
games into the season. They gota good lineup. They're probably not this

(06:06):
bad, and the Yankees probably aren'tthis good. It doesn't do any It
doesn't do me any good. Afterwhat I said, it was death by
a thousand cuts this weekend. Youhad a lead in every single game.
You got a lead in every game. Wex you didn't that is that not
accurate? Did you have a leadin the game yesterday? I believe so.

(06:29):
I don't. I don't think so. I thought you did. Am
I wrong? I don't think so. Oh they were down to the Yankees.
That's right. This is what happenswhen I'm multitasking with a child in
Easter and I can't even enjoy itbecause the Astros suck on opening weekend for
four straight days. This would havebeen bad enough if it was a three
game series, but no, wegot to hear about the Yankees and how
they're gonna go to the World Seriesnow because they swept the Astros in Houston

(06:53):
the first four games of the season. That was my favorite part their World
series. They had maybe a littlesaving grace for you, the Nationals,
the Yaki to Yakers, not theWashingtons. They were talking about the Yankees
Astros pondering this very important thought fromyesterday's game, basically saying this, and
I'm paraphrasing, is Aaron Judge soawful that they should have intentionally walked Wan

(07:15):
Soto in the ninth inning to getto him? And I put out some
of the offals and some of thegoods the numbers from this weekend's four game
series. Aaron Judge was totally invisible. The Astros owned him again, and
yet they couldn't win a single gamebecause the guy at the end of the
lineup we haven't mentioned, but youheard in the highlights Cabrera was killing them

(07:36):
and the guy in front of AaronJudge, who might see a few gooder
pitches if because of the presence ofJudge, But I don't know about that.
I think Guan Soto is what JuanSoto is. And the good news
is I don't know that there isany You don't have to see this team
but one more series. I don'teven think people realized what four wins by

(07:58):
the Yankees did. If it mightnot matter at any point, but it
certainly could come into play. LateSeptember, the Yankees just won the season
series against the Astros by winning fourof seven games in the first four opportunities,
the opportunity to whisk it all away, start all over again, do

(08:18):
their best with the final one fiftyeight. What starts today with the Blue
Jays. But among the topics wewill not be discussing. What's the shortest
tenure by a manager in Houston. How much money is Jim Crane willing to
eat on the contracts of Rafael Monteroand jose A Brazier. Do you think
they are considering moving let's see SethMartinez into the closer role, and do

(08:46):
you think jan Or Diz should batlead off? Those are all topics we
will not be addressing today. Butany others are fair game. Any others
are fair game. Yes, thereare some complaints to be discussed. Yes
there's some criticism to be had.Yes, they caught a tremendous amount of
oh near missus And here we are. All that being said, the weekend
was absolutely jam packed, would havebeen more packed if not for the injury

(09:11):
for Jamal shed on Friday night.I don't think there's any question they beat
Duke. I guess it's a littleunfair to say what would happen against NC
State, But boy would that havebeen fun. Yesterday four days of golf
over at the Houston Open, theTexas Children's Houston Open, a memorial Park
golf cars, and it basically camedown to the very last, somewhat lengthy

(09:31):
putt of Scotti Scheffler. All hehad to do was tap it in a
very makeable putt and they would haveneeded extra holes to determine who the twenty
twenty four champion was. But hemissed and that essentially ended the tournament.
Roughnecks couldn't even get a win intheir first game over Rice Stadium yesterday,
and the winning streak for yours HoustonRockets came to a close last night at

(09:52):
Toyota Center at the hands of oneof the teams in Texas. We despise
they both are there, but thisone happened to be Antonio. All that
on our plates for another eleven segmentsof excellence. Here on a Monday edition
of the eight Team, Adam Clinton, Adam Wexler back to Houston's eighteen on

(10:15):
Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, it is the eight team here on
Sports Talk seven ninety. I can'tsay what I was calling this weekend on
an FCUC regulated station. Well, let's just put it this way, if
you were a Houston sports fan, with the exception of and again, even
the win the Rockets got on Fridaynight, they had to like it was

(10:37):
the worst first quarter they probably playedthe entire season. Thirteen points. Yeah,
they just could not put the ballin the basket. They were super
sloppy, but they only allowed twentythree. Yeah, yeesh, suck Except
for John Collins, who had acareer game. I don't understand why people
have that issue. Like, he'sa really good player. It's a total
waste of his time to be inUtah. It's I can't believe they kept
him. That's the whole reason toget players like that. But when you
stink, you move them because they'regood. But of like, the Jazz

(11:01):
had like zero threes except for JohnCollins. Me and Colin Sexton are their
two good players, and they scoredall their points. Yeah, Jordan Clarkson
was out obviously. The guy namedLaurie was out too, and he dropped
fifty on the Rockets last year,so you figure, okay, And I
honestly think the Rockets showed up andthought they were just going to roll over
and die because the Rockets were basicallyon the floor in the building. Even

(11:22):
when they came back in the secondquarter, their utah wouldn't go away.
It's three quarters and to get everythingthey had out of him and get away
with a one point win. Andthis was fresh off the win. They
had an OKC and for all intentsand purposes, it was a four point
win. They had a garbage threepointer with point three remaining. I didn't
count. Rockets had to throw itin after I know, I know.
And if you had somehow screwed thatup, if you threw it at your

(11:46):
own rim and they tipped it in, that's the only way it would be
real. Because of Derek Fisher.Yeah no, but yesterday's game, I
don't know, there was definitely somethingthey could do, and not that we're
going to go too detailed into. It's pretty simple, take the ball out
of his hands. Maybe at somepoint, well here's the problem. Amy
Udoka decided this was the way we'regonna play it, and as things continued,
they never you know, went Theonly time they double teamed Luca was

(12:09):
the fourth quarter. The only quarterhe didn't score in also the only quarter
he should not have been playing in, but he did. Uh clearly trying
to get fifty. I couldn't tellif he was trying to get fifty or
trying to get the triple double He'sgonna get passing the ball. Now here's
how I knew. Uh, Well, Kyrie kept taking all of his shots
of making them. Kyrie was good. He was for the second half.
He sucked in the first half, but he didn't do anything. But in
half he just kind of hung outand watched Luca do. Look at thirty

(12:31):
two points in the first half.He hit five of seven from long range.
He had I believe eight rebounds thatwas in the He had five of
seven eight boards for assists in thefirst quarter. Yeah, he had a
an entire game's worth in the firsthalf, like an elite NBA player stat
line at halftime, and I'm like, this is not good. I mean,

(12:52):
you knew he was good, youknew he could do this, But
here is the problem. And Itold you this. I believe after the
game, you and Alvin and Iwere briefly talking about this last night.
It was clear from the tip thatwas botched because they threw it to Dallas.
I've never understood we are in twentytwenty four, why can't we get
Wi Fi that works in that building, And why can't we get an NBA

(13:13):
official to not throw the ball upwhen he's the most unathletic human on the
entire floor to two guys that aretwice his size. And that's the best
way that we can figure out howto fairly get the ball up for grabs.
On the opening tip, I likewhen we point out sports in game
problems and then we follow up witha solution. The ball should be dropped

(13:35):
exactly from the sky at Toyota Centercurrently they have a jumbo Tron. It
should be outfitted with a ball holster. Every holds onto the ball until it's
time for it to be dropped anddown it comes. Now, technically it's
going to fall in the same spotevery time, isn't it just the time
your jump? I mean, I'mnot even like and you know you think
it'll hurt their hands coming from usuallysixty feet up above them. Well,

(14:00):
my idea would be for it tocome out from under the floor. Oh,
like one of those awesome new drinkservers at the parks. Correct,
you just throw your cup on itfills up. But me thinks that somebody
might like their foot might wind upin the hole before it closes up,
and then you've got a problem.But here's the deal. I am not
usually one to get on the officialsuntil at least the clock starts running.

(14:22):
I looked at Adrian Chavalia next tome, the Spanish. Now, I
said, did no one else seethat? Like? The ball went rogue
towards the MAVs player? I can'tit was it, Daniel, what's the
graphers? The guy who jumps centerfor the starting lineup. It basically looked
like the official lobbed it to hishead. It's funny because on well,
not funny, but it happens thisway. Players get called for fouls on

(14:45):
the jump every once in a while. It happened. And yeah, some
of the rockets for jumping into theguy holding an arm not being in the
proper position. Even guys around thecircle you need to move. But it's
okay for an official to be awfulat it, right, Well, it's
okay for an NBA did it wrong. Let's do it again. How about
I threw it totally to you.I mean's do it again. How about

(15:07):
it's okay for an NBA official tobe awful. Period. Did you know
right then and there the game wasover? The curtains for the Rockets,
nothing, nothing, I knew itwas No, I'll tell you when I
knew it was over. I'll tellyou when I knew it was over.
When Amen Thompson was given Jalen Green'sfoul for number two and he went to
the bench because, believe it ornot, And I'm not saying that he
would have stopped him. I'm notsaying the game would have gone any better.
The Luca stopper. Well, thefirst two times they matched up one

(15:31):
on one, Amen Thompson's length andathleticism made him miss his shots. And
Amen Thompson was clearly you could tellthat was emy Udoka's plan. Put this
huge, long, athletic big ontheir best player and take your chances.
And it was working for the mostpart until he went to the bench,
went to the bench less than threeminutes into the game. Well, if

(15:54):
you look at the replay, though, this is my problem with this,
it was clear from every angle youwatch Jalen Green hit him on the shoulder.
You could actually see his skin move. So it was on the Rockets
because they didn't challenge. Well, yeah, I mean why not, No,
why not on the team? Theyshouldn't have to waste their challenges to

(16:15):
fix obvious calls. But the problemis that that's that is the problem.
They shouldn't have to NBA teams, well, they'd have to deal with the
dregs of society that are NBA officials. I had little to do with the
outcome of the game. In myopinion, that certainly was a play that
could swing things. Help. No, it did not help. The Rockets
didn't help themselves either. They couldn'thit a shot, they couldn't stop Luca,

(16:37):
and the few times it looked likethey might be putting a run together,
the MAVs answered with one of theirown. If you think I'm bringing
this up because I don't want totalk about the disaster that was the Astros,
you are absolutely right. In segmenttwo of our show, yeah absolutely,
we really. Obviously we haven't justgone full guns blazing on the things
we would like to see done differently, because that's what matters now. It
doesn't matter what they did over thefirst four games matters. What can be

(17:00):
done over the next one fifty eightstarting tonight one fifty eight. They've got
one hundred and fifty eight games tomake up for this deficit they now face
at zero to four in a divisionwhere not even the A's are winless,
just them. The only team thatis also winless is the terrible White Sox,
who Marteam Maldonado plays for. That'sit. Well, while the Astros

(17:22):
catchers were very good offensively, eighthits, Yeah, I'm so glad,
and I'm definitely gonna thank Dusty Baker, which we'll get to him by the
way, because he's ways way toomuch on my timeline this weekend for my
taste. But I love that DustyBaker told us all, yeah, you'll
thank me. The city will thankme for not playing him. He was
awesome this weekend. No, hedidn't drive in runs like everyone else in

(17:45):
the lineup, which he should have. I'm saying. When when it was
time for you know, clutch geneto activate, pretty much nobody did it,
or they were robbed or other stupidthings happened. But yaner Diez is
going to be fine and should havebeen playing wait more than he did last
year while they had eight hits combined, they do trail former Astros catcher Corey

(18:06):
Lee and Homers by one. Okay, now you're just taking some salt and
putting it directly into the and Martyshare the catching duties in Chicago. Yeah.
Well, I think the winless WhiteSox, the winless Astros, the
winless Mets, the winless Marlins.Boy, those are the only four teams
that emerge from Thursday through Sunday withouta dove, and fifty percent of those

(18:29):
teams are paying a lot of moneyto not have a win. Mets did
pair down their payroll a little bitafter they decided to not pay to rehab.
They are and we have some newswhich could be an update on Justin
retired, but we've retired that,so we'll just give you the news and
other things. Like I said, getting into actually what needs to happen moving

(18:51):
forward for Houston. If it isreal to push the panic button, if
there are signs of something much morenegative than just well, hey, they
lost four games. If I wouldhave told you that the Astros are gonna
have a four game losing streak intwenty twenty four, you'd have said,
duh, of course they are.Everybody does that? Well, now they
have is a five gamer coming? Is an eight gamer coming? Is more
of this on the way? Yes, that's what we will discuss here on

(19:14):
the eighteen. Hey it's Craig afffour three. Listen to the Home of
the Rockets on yours smart speaker.Just pass Hey Google, play Sports Talk
seven ninety on iHeartRadio. That's all. The big question is where do the
astros go from me here? Cauldnteven get it out of a straight face,
like, but that's it's not evena terrible question, because if you

(19:36):
start the year o for four againstone of the teams who is presumed to
be competing with you to make itout of the American League, then you
should. It's like WEX said, they lost this season series, it's over.
They could sweep them in the Bronxand it won't matter. And you've
got four games tied. Yeah, and you've got four games at home where
apparently you cannot ever win again.Yeah, did anything about what took place

(20:00):
this weekend beyond the just huge blackcloud that hangs over them playing at home?
If you weren't aware of that,if you didn't know about last year,
if all that happened they just theylost four games. I mean,
check, it didn't seem like theygot shut out four straight days. They
couldn't. I mean, now, granted, they had almost no pop because

(20:21):
after Jake Myers took Nestor Cortes deepin the second of the thirty six innings
that they played, they didn't hitanother home run. But I don't think
anything that I saw this week andwas ah, the stupid batters eye nonsense
needs to be brought back up again, which, by the way, is
unchanged, looks the same as itdid when they altered it last year.
I don't really think that has anythingto do with it. I don't know

(20:41):
if they don't feel good about comingup to bat in the bottom of the
ninth, they certainly acted like theyfeel fine, considering a runner was thrown
out after a three hit ninth inningat home plate, which would have tied
the game. The next day, they had multiple opportunities, with all three
of the hitters that came up almostdoing the job. I know this,
Altuve hit one down the line thatno name third baseman snagel, and then

(21:08):
Tucker sliced one to what looked likeAndrew bennettendi out there in left field.
And the game was over. Dome a favor because I know you know
this number right off the top ofyour head because you're a numbers guy.
How many men did they leave onbase over the four game weekend? Well,
I actually think usually you know, the box score left on base versus
the individual players left on base sometimesthey actually, I think there's a lot

(21:29):
of value in that other number thatteam fouls versus fouls in the NBA.
Not quite, but why can't benoteworthy when someone goes over for four and
they came up with runners on secondand third ones, and they came with
the bases loaded once they came upwith runners on you know, first and
seid it adds up and for theteam you could only lead three runners left
three runners on base per inning. The batting average runners in scoring position was

(21:51):
poor, clearly, uh but severalyou know, one hit for sure,
the hit that Tucker got to notto drive in du Bond. That was
a hit with a runner and scoringbecause the ninth inning of a one run
game they sent him. I don'teven disagree with the send. I also
don't disagree with the call. Ithink they got it right on the field
and after review Unfortunately, they justnot only didn't score that run. The

(22:11):
very next batter is your clean uphitter. It's Alex Bregman, and he
hit a ball well over ninety fiveexit velo and right to the shortstop.
And are we done with Jordan battingin the two hole yet? That's that's
the next thing, Okay. Now, I'd actually like to address that,
okay. And I was talking tosomebody last night about it in between ball
bouncing through nets. Yeah, somethinglike that. I as we talked about

(22:36):
it over the course of spring training. Initially you had, you know,
Tucker and Bregman and Alvarez batting ina little different order than they ended up
going into the season with because hedid not have Tucker immediately behind him throughout,
but decided to go that way.Altuve, Alvarez, Tucker, Bregman,
So essentially everybody but Altuve is kindof batting in an unfamiliar place.

(22:56):
If you believe in that stuff, and I think it's hard to not give
it at least a little credence.Players talk about it all the time,
being comfort in the comfort zone. And I mentioned that I was talking about
at the Rockets game, because specificallylast night was the twelfth consecutive game,
not for me, but for Calvin, where I'll ask him, all right,
Calvin, what are your keys tothe game, and he'll say,

(23:18):
if it ain't broke, don't fixit any run. He actually did run
the same set of keys to victoryfor the Rockets for twelve consecutive games,
and this is the first time theydid not win. So if what has
been working for the Astros in thepast, I mean, I'm not a
verse to change. I'm not averse to listening to numbers. I'm not
averse to trying new things. I'mnot trying averse to trying to take advantage

(23:40):
of it. But there's only liketwenty more at bats twenty five maybe thirty
more at bats for every spot inthe batting order over the course of an
entire season. A couple of AB'sa month, little less than one ab
a week is what you're getting extrafrom Alvarez by batting him second instead of
third, which I think is thereason for it. I don't have any

(24:02):
problem with batting the two lefties backto back, but knowing what Alex Bregman
is best at is not what thetwo guys batting in front of him now
are best at he's best at workingcounts and having a pretty good on base
percentage regardless of his batting average.Because he takes a lot of walks,
he forces Pictures to throw strikes, and then they're also forced to throw strikes
because look who's waiting. Alvarez andTucker Bregman should be batting second. That's

(24:27):
where he belongs in this lineup, both behind al Tuve and in front of
the other two. Then I wouldlean on the same thing I just ran
through for having Alvarez higher. Idon't want to bat him forth because that's
one fewer at bat ian. Whenyou take two spots in the order,
that does start to decrease the numberof opportunities. So yeah, Alvarez third
and Tucker fourth, Jose Abray shouldbe in the five holes zero times over

(24:48):
the next one hundred and fifty eightgames. And I hope that actually happens.
And the last thing about all that, I brought it up during camp
and it still holds true. JakeMyers homeward in his very first at bat.
Now, he didn't bat ninth everygame, but he didn't. He
didn't have a hit the rest ofthe weekend. Jerey mcpaina had a nice
enough start to the season when hewasn't hitting into double plays, he had
six hits. But you're turning thetop of your order into the meat of

(25:11):
your order. How many times agame with the eight and nine hole hitters
as your leadoff guys. It's awaste if they're never getting on base,
because then Alvarez is always batting withoutthe traffic right rather having bat in back
of two plus hitters. Was theyeah, which was the argument for why

(25:32):
you don't put him in that twohole. That is I'm glad you brought.
Not the reason they lost four timesthis weekend. No, there's a
there's a variety of reasons. Butsince we're on the subject that brings,
that's that's a good right reminder ofall of the things I want to go
ahead and check off the list fromlast year that I don't need to see.
I don't need to see what youjust got done talking about the bottom

(25:53):
of the order, Jose Bray youI honestly they could. They could just
release him tomorrow and I wouldn't careand no one else. We can't talk
about that on the show tweet todayit says not on today's show, will
Crane eat Montero and Abraw's contract?Right? I all how to talk about
that? I don't need memes ofDusty Baker's face with the caption miss me.

(26:17):
Yet No nobody misses him Nobody becauseJoe Aspota lost his first four games
as manager for a variety of reasons, but hardly any of them were because
Joe Aspota made bad decisions. Didhe make some bad decisions? Of course,
Stop pitching the guys we were absolutelyfawning over and obrall you Presley and
Hater. Stop using them. Stopthrowing them out there. Joe, what

(26:38):
are you doing? Stop using yourbest relievers? Like who's saying that?
I mean nobody, nobody, Nobodymissed again everything he did, and it
happens to every manager, certainly everymanager has been through here the last ten
years, AJ, Dusty and nowJoe, even though it's only been four
games. Over those four games,he maybe made fifteen to twenty decisions.
After the lineup was put together andthey all work over and over and over

(27:03):
and over. Dusty Baker would havedone over the course of the four game
weekend that would have changed so much. It's a completely unnecessary topic. It's
complete cop out because you like you'remad. I get it, I'm mad.
We're all mad. What he wouldhave probably done differently is what we
talked about initially this segment. Heprobably would not have the lineup like that.
He had four years to make thesechanges. He did not want to
do that part of the lineup.Yeah, the top, the most important

(27:26):
part. Yeah, but he stillwould have had a bray you batting fifth,
probably, which is stupid. Iagree. And now they know again,
hopefully even after just four games andan oh for eleven, that maybe
you don't want again. Whoever's battingcleanup now it's hurting, bregmant. Why
would I give you a pitch tohit? The next guy is going to
be out automatically. He's been outevery time he's come to the plate except
when he got hit by a pitchand when he walked. Well, the

(27:48):
good news and the bad news aboutthe Astros is what I'm going to give
you guys next segment, among otherthings. As we could wrap up the
three o'clock hour here on a Mondayedition of the eighteen April Fool's Day edition
of The A Team, not anApril Fools Day joke Juan Soto al Player
of the Week. Yeah, wellduh wait as Waldo cabrown an April Fool's
Day joke, Luka Doncic Western Conferenceplayer of the Week. Who's the player

(28:14):
of the month? Oh, hewill be Luca. The top two scores
in the Western Conference this month wereLuca and Jalen, and Luca was already
ahead of him by three points goinginto yesterday and is averaging right around a
triple devil this month. What's theirrecord? They ended up finishing eleven and
four, Rockets finished thirteen and two, and they won the only time they

(28:36):
had to head each other, whichis what determines no stupid monthly awards.
Jalen made such enormous strides, carriedthis team on his back at the best
games of his career. It justshows you how good Luca really is,
Like that's what he does almost everynight. It's gonna be awesome when he
never wins a title though. Allright, Primeway Federal Credit Union is going

h Town has two Adams in theafternoon. I'm so lucky to have you

(30:06):
looking out for me. Adam Clintonand Adam Wexler are the A team.
It is the A team here onSports Talk seven ninety as expected Justin Verlander
after he threw in front of usour watchful eyes on Friday at the Ballpark
in his Astro's bullpen. He threwfifty two pitches in his live VP today,

(30:30):
three innings worth of tosses, andaccording to Chandler Rome and Matt Cohar
and Brian mctagger, who all coveredthe Astros for their respective outlets, he
called it a huge win. Andas Dana Brown Total told our listeners yesterday
on Astros Radio, the expectation isa couple of rehab starts, two maybe
three are in his future if allgoes well. Because Dana said that yesterday,

(30:52):
apparently all went well today during thatlive BPI. So it's possible that
the kids from Las Vegas could seeJustin Verlander pitching against them at Constellation Field.
Their six game series with the SpaceCowboys begins Tuesday and runs through Sunday.

(31:14):
It's possible the kids from Midland couldsee Justin Verlander as a Corpus Christy
Hook. They play in Corpus Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the Texas League.
As crazy as this sounds, theyremain in Texas for their series that
follow They'll be in Frisco after that, and then back home to take on
San Antonio Space Cowboys, though goto Albuquerque next week. I don't know

(31:40):
that they're gonna send Justin Verlander toAlbuquerque. Where do you sed to pitch
in any game? So I havea feeling he might pitch for both teams
potentially, But when Dana Brown actuallysaid it, he said Sugarland, I
don't know that he's tied to havinghim pitch for that team. Where do
you think Justin Verlanders stays if hegoes to Corpus Christy? Like, do
they have a six star hotel inCorpus Christians? Six? Yeah? He

(32:00):
needs six? Well, Matt Thomasdoes so obviously, you know, for
Justin Verlander, I mean, truthfullyspeaking, in this situation, they both
would be traveling alone. Like,Justin's not traveling with his wife and daughter.
He's a baseball player traveling to goplay in a baseball game. He
might buy the spread, he mighthook the guys up with a many a
new plasma TV. He's not MichaelJordan or Michael Scott, but I think

(32:24):
he'll probably stay in a reputable hotel, might even end in the words in
But I'm sure, he'll be justfine for his very short stay, his
holiday, if you will, couldbe a residence. There's no way,
there's no way. What's the night? I need to know this now?
What's the nicest hotel in Corpus Christi, Texas? Why do you think Corpus

(32:44):
Christie is so small? I don'tthink it's small. I just don't think
that they have, you know, the post Oak at Uptown. But he's
going to play a baseball game ina minor league ballpark, which is the
nicest hotel in town. He's notjust saying that because Tilman sends me checks.
He can't handle it unless have youbeen there to the Postal hotel or
to Corpus Yes, it's just Ithink he'll manage in just fine at an

(33:09):
Omni or a Hyatt of some sort. There's many varieties Hiatt places, et
cetera. They got them all Man, but they'll probably set them up at
the Executive Residency by Best Western accordingto price Line, four point three stars
for the residence in told you byMarriott. Yeah, nice high rise,

(33:31):
top five star hotels. Can goahead and get a top floor on that.
Can I get the penthouse file? What the Penthouse. You know,
you mean a regular room. Fivestar hotels and Corpus Christie. That can't
be right. The Omni. Maybethey just take a super but put him
like they did with Deshaun when hehad to go to Jacksonville. Just put

(33:52):
him on a superbus. Let himstay there. The Omni gets four point
two stars and is known for havingto fist dedicated quarters plus dining. I'm
hopeful that my room is smart. That's what a sophisticated quarter must be.
If you don't have a smart roomin twenty twenty four, are you even
trying? Like that place that Istayed? What's that little town that I

(34:13):
stayed in after I blew out thetire on my way back from Game five
against the Rangers? Heller, Idon't start with an oh, oh,
my odessa. Okay? Is thatup by Dallas? Sure? I feel
like that's where I stayed. Okay, it was a very nice hotel room.
I did not plan on staying there. Like I said, he will
have plenty of options. The teamhas plenty of options to get him ready
to pitch. And if it's againit's only two or three starts, well

(34:37):
that's two or three weeks maximum. If everything goes well, he will be
pitching for the Astros before the endof April. We will their record be
then. I mean, this isthe Honestly, this is a all.
I'm not saying it's a nothing ora silly thing to talk about. But
if you're waiting on Justin Erlander tocome back for this team, if you
were waiting for him to come backbefore this weekend, that's the least of

(35:00):
their worries, honestly, that they'restarting pitching. While they didn't go deep,
nobody did in any of their games. It's the first week of the
season. Nobody's pitching seven thnings asstarters. That's fine. It was as
expected. Maybe you could have gottenanother couple of outs from Framber, maybe
you could have gotten through six withJpeve it was a little bit more.
Maybe Key would be pitching if hewas healthy. Yes, maybe. And

(35:20):
then Hunter Brown obviously was extremely inefficient. Eighty eight pitches to get through four
innings is not quite enough. Buthe was super successful. Yeah, he
was out there. He was good, but you knew as soon as he
walked out it was like, ohman, well it didn't have to be
that way. It's just you knowthere was a miss que behind him,
and you know, this adds acouple of pitches miss que behind him him.
The other part of the weekend, was it Joe's fault that Parker Maschinski

(35:43):
can't throw the ball to first? Was Joe's fault that Jeremy Pania can't flip
it to Jose Altuve? Was Joe'sfault that John Singleton almost made a spectacular
over the shoulder catch but didn't.That Chas McCormick can't throw home to get
a runner out because he has aterrible arm. None of those things Juan
Soto did. Yeah, he doesn'thave an arm. No, but it
was a really good throw. It'svery short throw up. But again,

(36:06):
I don't I don't discourage I won'tdiscourage Gary Pettits from sending a player in
that situation. Again, I gota good jump, he rounded third,
fine, just beat him. It'sjust it was a very maddening series because
they were four winnable games, eventhe blowout, if you want to call
it, that was a winnable game. When you get to the final three
innings and it's not a blowout,it became one. Yeah, that's I

(36:28):
just that's the frustrating part. Butagain, like I said, I don't
think the Yankees are this good, and I don't think the Astros. We
haven't even gotten to that. AndI don't want to disagree. I mean,
the Yankees, the Yankees just beatyour brains in. If you'll afford
that to me after I'm for you, well then you have to. I
gotta bring this up. Then didthe White Sox beat the Astros brains in
in the World Series. That's that'sliterally what happened this weekend. And I

(36:51):
totally agree. I'm like the onlyone who says they barely lost Game one
and they barely lost this game andthey barely well you lost them all,
yeah, but it was a supercompetitive in game series where you won none
of them. That's what happened thisweekend. But they did all that while
Aaron Judge did next to nothing, hit into a couple double plays, had
only two tests what he always doesagainst the Astros, and Garret cole pitch

(37:12):
none of the games and they wonthem all. Yeah, this is just
in. The Yankees are going tobe good. The best player that moved
this off season, arguably this seasononly, is Juan Soto. Not show
Heyjan Soto will be better in twentytwenty four, then show hey will be
in twenty twenty four. Congratulations forthe first time in eight years of this

(37:34):
run by the Astros, you finallygot a player worth playing against them who
doesn't just strike out like crazy. But as Waldo Cabrera is, you're not
getting credit for that. Yeah. They also were super patient. The Astros
would not throw strikes often enough againstthem other than Christian Javier, bullpen starters,
you name it, and it paidoff. It was a much better
philosophy that they haven't been able toemploy because most of their hitters were not

(37:57):
capable of doing that. On creditwhere it's due, but I don't.
I'm not gonna sit here and belike, oh, the Yankee The Yankees
were awesome two years ago. Thatwas legit, and Judge was doing something
then Yep, he ain't doing anythingright now. One series, the same
thing with the Astros. He's washedhim and Brave you same guy was washed.
Bray you by the way in thelineup today and not batting fifth.

(38:19):
We will discuss when we come back. Two lifelong Houston sports guys named Adam
talking your Teams series Adam Clinton andAdam Wexler are the A Team A our

(38:42):
number two here on a March thirtysecond edition of The A Team Sports Talk
seven to ninety. I'm not doingit. I'm not doing it. April
does not start until the Astros win. That's how it works. So if
they win night, it could beApril. But that's how we're going with
it. After that kind of weekend, wex over there, I see right
here the show killer Dan Matthews producingup until six o'clock. And yeah,

(39:05):
we've discussed everything that happened, notjust with the Astros but with the Rockets,
and a little bit about you ofh and how terrible weekend it was.
And the lone win of those teamswe just mentioned was a one point
win against the Skeleton Crew. Thatwas the Utah Jazz Friday Night in which
you scored thirteen points in the firstquarter. But we started this discussiony eight

(39:25):
in the final three. Thank you. We started this discussion at the tail
end of the last segment. Arethe Yankees really really good? And on
paper and after a four to nothingsweep, clearly they are gonna win the
World Series this year? Come on, man, Whatike's what you sound like.

(39:49):
That's what you said last segment. You said they were gonna win the
World Series guaranteed. The best teamin the American League is in the American
League East. Really not the Yankees, though, is the Baltimore Orioles it
is? They lost? They lostthe game. They're gonna lose a game
sixty more times? Probably, well, the Yankees won't. They probably are
gonna sweep every series. You saidit. If the Yankees lose sixty more

(40:12):
times, they can still win ninetyeight times. I don't think they're gonna
do either of those things. TheYankees are definitely good. In my opinion,
Wan Soto is good. They havea good baseball team, a significantly
better baseball team than a year ago. Even though Juan Soto is the one
major change you got a second yearof Volpi, he certainly looked better in
the three games he played before hegot too sick to play in the fourth.
Cabrera certainly looked better at this timearound that he did last time around.

(40:36):
There's a lot of reasons, that'swhat I want to know. Well,
if you I don't know if Robertand Steve got into it much,
but I know Jeff and Todd dida little bit on the TV side when
they were on they had been tothe team Mexico City and drank the water.
One of the New York reporters hadnoted, there are several players and

(40:57):
media members that do not feel well, and the Astros are going to play
games south of the border later thismonth, so they are keenly paying attention
when because I'm going to Cancun andI've never been in Mexico before. I'm
going to Cancun with a family inJuly. And I'm serious when I asked
this, have you been there beforeNew Mexico? No, Okay, when
I hear this all the time, don't drink the water there, which seems

(41:22):
I mean, it's twenty twenty four. What's happening now at this point?
That is so bad with just Iget not drinking tap water. I don't
like doing that here in the US. Well, there you go, But
what do you do like when youget to wherever you're staying? Again,
this is how we go. Mywife handles the lodging, I handle the

(41:43):
airfare if we're going that far,so I don't I just I show up
because I trust her that much. We're going to be in the best hotel
that you can possibly find wherever we'regoing. Because she's bougie. I don't
even care. It's fine if westay in an inn with two inns when
I do that, but for herit's not good enough. I've actually booked
a trip before where she came backbehind me and rebooked the hotel because it

(42:05):
wasn't good enough for her. SoI never worry about that point being when
we get to wherever we're getting,do I just take the bottle of water
that's going to be inevitably ten totwelve dollars? But in Pesos it's better
in Mexico? Is that what youdo? Yes, that is what you
do. So what are these playersdoing? Did they do the Dwayne Brown
beef? No? When was thatwhen the Texans went and played in Mexico

(42:30):
City without the Cowboys game? Whoare they playing in Mexico City Arizona?
Maybe? Okay, I mean theAstros went to Mexico City a few seasons
back. I mean that was hisexcuse for why he was popped for pets.
Oh I didn't remember that. Yes, Oh, come on, Dwayne,
You're better than that. I thinktainted beef Jet New York Jet.
Dwayne Brown probably replaced New York Jet. Yes, he's he retire, isn't

(42:52):
he. They've tried to get theiroffensive line capable of blocking for the immobile
Aaron Rodgers. I Betty could swalthypart of that. I don't know if
Dwayne Brown could play left guard betterthan anybody the Texans have. It's this
pretty bad interior lineman. Okay,he had a really bad first game too,
and one hundred years ago that wasI remember that game. But in

(43:14):
all seriously, like, I'm surethe Yankees will be fine, But like
you said, you just got donesaying there, I am in the best
team in their division. That's okay, the not best team in the Astros
division just won the World Series. You know, it's funny if the Yankees
do indeed miss the playoffs like Ipredicted on Thursday, and who did not
predict that? This guy? Oh, are you saying you're smarter because they

(43:35):
swept the Astros. You're pointing outyou think they stink. I'm pointing out
I disagree. I'm going to laughand laugh and last I hope you do
when they don't make the postseason aftersweeping the Astros because right now, Nick
Deturro and his son, notwithstanding yourbest friend, you treated them. You
absolutely treated them to a four gamesweep. That's what he's saying. He's
saying to me. So I'm sittingwith him throughout the entire first day of

(44:00):
that blowout for an inning that wasthe Astros opening day first inning, and
he's like, you guys have I'mtrying to clean it up. You guys
have owned us for like ever,so it's like, we can't beat you
suckers. It was ridiculous. Iwas like, it's it's real, it's
not an act. This is howhe talks. It was great. Our
listeners enjoyed it. He's screaming,he's his son, is his videographer,

(44:22):
slash hype man, and he's completelygone too. He was going absolutely bonkers
there right behind home plate. AndI'm thinking of myself in my mind,
this is hilarious. They're doing itto them again, and that didn't last
very long. But that's now thatyou've played them, though, it's really
not a concern until late late inthe season. If it are so focused

(44:44):
on, like with the Rangers, who you're gonna play this weekend, that's
different. That's a division rival. That's someone who's you know, in the
way of you accomplishing what you yourfirst goal should be, which is winning
the division. That's that's a seriousissue. Yes, you know what the
ret the Blue Jays. I'm notsaying you should lose this series. In
fact, far from it. Ithink you should win it. A sweep

(45:06):
would be nice. I mean,if the Red Sox get the kind of
pitching they got the first four gamesof the season, there might not be
a bad team in that division.I don't think there is. I mean,
and there the Red Sox clearly careagain all of a sudden, yep,
after not caring for a long longtime. But yeah, I just
I think it's a very much worryabout your own dirty laundry for the foreseeable

(45:28):
future. Favu, You're on forit, whateverybody. It's what you're doing.
It's not what other teams are doingto you and what other teams are
doing out of the I didn't lookat the standings at all this weekend.
What's the point. It's opening weekendand the Astros are over, so they're
going to be behind everybody, includingthe Oakland A's my god, where'd you
say you were going? We're goingto Cancun? And I said, when

(45:50):
you asked if I'd been to Mexico, you said no, even though I've
been to Cancun. So what happened? I forgotsconnect. I just forgot,
Hey, you're doing next three homegames. No, I'm not like.
I like did get a text fromsomebody? It says you've been to Mexico?
I responded, when where are orseth? That says before we were

(46:12):
married. I thought there was somestory about you deep sea fishing with some
of the hockey people in kan Koon. Wait, you went to can Kun
with the arrows on it. Notwith the team, but a bunch of
us that worked there, including someformer players that were in the front office.
We went to kan Kun and todeep sea fish. That was one
that was just that was something thatwe did. But that's the story that

(46:35):
she knows because we all were dumbenough to go deep sea fishing early in
the morning after a night of whateywhatever, and everybody except the former hockey
player did not enjoy the boat ride. He was fine. He was like,
what's wrong with you guys? Much? Did you puke? However much
it ended up in the ocean overthe side of the boat. I was
measuring it. Well, you're totallyYou're seasick like that when you drunk.

(47:00):
Still, you're not even hung over, you're drunk. Yes, you know
we did that in Uh. Ithink it was destined a few years back,
and Teresa was the only one thatguys sick. She wasn't up all
night drinking like you. It wasa family What a boozer. That's on
you. I love that that sheknew this and it wasn't even with you,

(47:20):
not even with me. But yeah, that's why I tell her things
that way somebody will remember. Soshe's listening right now. Oh, I
don't know. Maybe I guess thatmust mean she's listening. I didn't know
that she and Ryan listened to thisearly on the show at school. Just
she's probably just on her way toto uh get to our young student out
of school. So what did y'alldo this weekend? They went to the
game last night. She said shewas rooting for the Rockets. I believe

(47:44):
her. Uh huh, what elsedid we do? That's a lie?
But a real uh driver's education drivinglesson for Ryan, not with us,
but with the actual instructor. Ryan. Congrats for finally wanting to drive.
He's always wanted to drive. He'sawesome life. What else Friday night,
there's a Rockets game Friday late.So I did that. Yeah, we

(48:05):
saw Saturday. I watched you onTV. You don't remember. Saturday was
probably a you watched the Astros loseand blow out fashion. What I did?
You got it? Did you go? No? I didn't go.
Good for you? And there youhave it. I drove into town,
well, actually not drove into town. Live in Houston, dude, No
no, no, no, no, no, no, no, get

(48:27):
out, get out of the city. No. I didn't drive in twice.
I drove in the second time. There was a concert that was downtown
that one of the members of ourfamily attended and Theresa didn't want it to
drive by herself, let's just putit that way. So we came into
town late with the young and bythe way, he fell asleep on the
way home. All right, whenwe come back, I mean the good,

(48:51):
which we're gonna have to go outsideof Houston to find the bad and
the ugly from over the weekend. Here on the A Team Sports Talk seven
ninetyes. We talked to you aboutour good friend over at Classic Elite Chevy
sugar Land and Classic Elite Chevy Highwaysix. When it is time for that
brand new vehicle, there's no betterplace to go, because nobody is quite

(49:12):
as elite as our good friends overthere are good friends Jeff and Tiffany Sebastian,
the owners now thirteen years running asthe GM Dealer of the Year.
Fantastic stuff over there at all times, Specifically at these times, opportunity to
find yourself behind the wheel of SelectsSilverado at fifteen one thousand dollars off,
four thousand dollars off twenty twenty four, Tahosts seventy five hundred dollars off twenty

(49:37):
twenty four, Blazers employee pricing foreveryone together, let's drive. Who mentioned
the two locations Classic Elite Chevy Highwaysix. Yesterday was Sunday. They're open
on Sundays at Classic Elite Chevy Highwaysix. When you head on over there
to either location, you know whatto do. You tell them. Adam
Wexler sent you by back to AdamClinton and Adam Wexler the eighteen Fine Sort

(50:00):
Talk seven ninety two hands free puts, the shot clock expires. The home
of your rockets. Now the good, oh good, the bad? That's
my good and the ugly don't makeme good. With the A Team,
we still win you the good, the bad, the only show in town

(50:23):
to do the good, the bad, and the ugly. Where people hear
it, it is the A Teamhere on Sports Talk seven ninety. Such
a bad person. I love it. Wex Ac the showkiller, Dan Matthews
taking you up until six o'clock andrevisiting the weekend as we do at this
time each and every week. Danis good, wex is bad. I

(50:45):
am very very ugly. So takeit away, Dan, Yeah, you're
right. Had to outsource this one. But of course, whenever Duke loses
in the NCAA tournament and Angel getstheir wings in America is happy. Even
though Danny Canell might have been bringinga little bit of the attention on himself,

(51:05):
even though he has been Middlebrooks's uncle. But n C State doing the
lord's work yesterday up in Dallas.Yes, it should have been Houston against
NC State, injuries pending, butstill the fact that NC State able to
consider continue their Cinderella run and sendthose frauds back to Durham. That's a

(51:25):
good thing. I hate Duke andyou should too, But it's okay to
hate Duke. Nobody should like asecond NC State Cinderella story, run to
the final four, win it all. Yeah, they're not gonna win at
all because they aren't gonna win thisgame, or that they've won nine of
the They're not gonna win this gamesin a row. Do you really think

(51:46):
that they're gonna come out of thiswhole thing? Who do they have next?
I don't know no who's next forthem against Alabama? Yeah, there's
two number one seeds left. Now. They're lucky that they're not seeing the
gooder as I'll use once each hour, of the two number one seeds.
I do respect Purdue, although Istill think there are lots of teams that

(52:09):
could have beaten them. Has playedthem. He respects them, but you
con is a machine. I don'tthink Bama has a chance, and I
don't believe either of the teams inthe other semi had either. Alabama didn't
have a chance. All who doesis you keep winning the same thing,
except they didn't win their conference tournament, and they had conference tournaments at this

(52:30):
point in the tournament. Nobody Well, when you can't get to the tournament
without winning your conference tournament, itkind of matters. Well, they're there
and they're winning. Yeah, nobodythought they would do anything in this tournament
as a four seed. They thoughtthey'd win two games. They just didn't
think they'd win a third game, which is all they've done. How many
people had Alabama making a deep runin this tournament even with the four seed.

(52:52):
I didn't see anybody. Basically itis Bama that the only people who
thought they could beat North Carolina, which is probably a very small group.
They upset them, and then Joshdidn't have to have an upset to win
a second game. Josh definitely thoughtthey would beat North Carolina. I mean
North Carolina State just flat out hada terrible season this, point blank,
no disputing it, not even wortharguing. And then they won every game

(53:14):
in the tournament nine straight times. So Jamal Sheed doesn't get hurt. They
beat Duke, they run over UNC. No, they probably don't run them
over, but they outscore them andwin just like they would have to Duke,
as they were doing at the time. But it sounds like you think
it wouldn't have mattered because Yukon's goingto just destroy whoever's left in their way,
and let I don't know what otherteams can do to slow them down,
because what Illinois did it was likethe best that anyone's done. And

(53:37):
then Yukon scored thirty straight points. It was twenty three to twenty three.
That was insane. And then theyscored thirty straight How many times does a
thirty zero run happen in the tournamentever? I mean, it's insane how
well they can play for stretches, and you played well for that long of
a stretch, the game's over andit was to me, the bad was,
as simply put, is what tookplace on the first half of the

(53:58):
game for the Cougars. I thinkthey did everything they wanted to do.
It would have been nice if theyhad a bigger lead at the beginning of
the game, but Jamal shed goingout it was It shows you how hard
they play, that they did notget blown out, that they did have
a chance late to send that gameto overtime, that they did stay with
them throughout when the player I alreadydeemed the player the most indispensable player in

(54:20):
the entire NCAA tournament. All duerespect to Zach Eatie is Jamal Shed and
unfortunately we all got to see it, and nobody wants to see that.
You know, it's I was talkingto somebody about this this weekend, and
it's it's not fun to hear,but I got I get where they're coming
from. They're tired of the programbeing you know, good now. They're

(54:43):
tired of it being rebuilt. They'retired of hearing about Kelvin Samson and the
culture. They want to win.And I understand that it's not as easy
as that when you're talking about basicallyyour best player getting hurt every single year
for like three three years in arow now or is it two years in
a row, I can't remember.They feel I feel like somebody key has
been out for them each of thelast several tournament runs that they've had.

(55:04):
I mean out or not one hundredpercent. There's a difference. That's true,
that's true, But injuries have havekept this team from doing what this
person was talking about. And Iget that. I just I don't know
anyone who's tired of it personally wellor disappointed. They're they're tired of hearing

(55:24):
about you know, this team shoulddo they wanted to happen, and I'm
like, well, it's kind ofhard to do that when the best player
is Are any of these people familiarwith what NCAA basketball is all about even
in this era, which is That'sthat's why I don't like it. Like
no, I mean, these coachesthat are like the greatest guys to ever

(55:44):
walk on the college hardwood have someof the most embarrassing tournament records ever.
Rick Barnes will and he had KevinDurant for one year. Who cares you
had Kevin Durant, who was afreak. Yes, the great majority of
players in the NBA played in college, and the great majority of them don't
have titles in college because they onlyplay one year or two or three.

(56:05):
It's not that easy. That's whatI don't get, because I think it
should be. I think if youhave a player of that caliber on your
team, with the dregs of societythat you're playing and yes, I'm gonna
use that term once an hour duringthe show, that should happen. It
should train. When you're saying somethingthat you have proof is untrue, what
do you mean that a bunch ofscrubs. You think the best player college
basketball will win the tournament every year, and they literally almost I think they

(56:29):
never should. I didn't think thatI do. If the proof shows you
otherwise, then why should they?I think I said I think it should
happen more because I've said this amillion times and I stand by it.
I don't care what people think.I think college basketball sucks, and the
main reason I think it sucks isbecause the quality of play drop off from
the NBA to the next level isawful, and I don't think it's the

(56:51):
same in college football. Like collegefootball, I know that the the best
college football team of all time getwrecked by the worst NFL team of all
time. I get that. Butif you were to put I don't know
what's the greatest college team ever inthe NCAA tournament, Like who is it?
There's too many? Any of them? Just picked the most dominant one

(57:14):
ever and put them up against Howabout the Clippers in sacks Bobby Hurley and
Christian Laighton Brant Hill, Well,I wouldn't go there. Why they won
a title? That's one awesome NBAplayer, one horrific Top ten pick,
and a dream teamer. Okay, that's not a dream teamer. Not only
that, the best dream team. You're right, the dream team the Kentucky

(57:37):
team with Anthony Davis and Karl AnthonyTowns that didn't win a bad worst champion
college basketball championship. So who wouldwin? Who would that be? Now?
All these players that went to Kentuckythat they're all over the NBA,
like none of them won a title, Like one guy here, one guy
there, and the other thirty didn'twin squat and got embarrassed in a tournament

(57:59):
game. It happens every year becausethat's what it's like. Like the John,
Yes, these are the best players. Reinforces my point that college possibly
has two Top eight picks that wereon this year's team. They did nothing,
absolutely nothing. Yeah, it's Iagain, that's why it doesn't mean

(58:22):
it stinks. It means it's muchharder to win than you think it is.
But also it means it stinks. No, it doesn't. You can
still say that it does. ButI don't know why you think that's the
reason. No, I think thereason is that it stinks. That's why
I think it stinks, because itstinks. Very ugly of you to say,
are you did you get to yourbad yet? Yeah, immediately I

(58:42):
said the bad was the Jamal shedinjury. Okay, Well the ugly is
the Astros. I don't think Ineed to go over. I mean we've
been doing that for half the shownow, all of the reasons the year,
and it's not the four it's theway it happens how they played.
Yeah, and I think, uh, I know that you know ver supposed
to come back and then that's gonnabump everybody else back. But like you

(59:05):
said it on Friday after Fromber didwhat he did, that's playing with fire.
They're actually fortunate that. I mean, you know, you've crowned the
Yankees the World Series champions of twentytwenty four, So if that ends up
being the case, they're actually luckythat they didn't put more on the board
with the way Fromber was loading upthe bases with runners, right, but

(59:27):
some luck and some he was stillhim groundball, double play, groundball,
double play, groundball, double playthree times to end the four innings that
he completed. He didn't. Hedidn't have a chance to close out the
last one because he couldn't finish theinning. It could have I guess if
you'd have gotten an earlier double playball because he left with the bases loaded.
I just and I want to carrythis into the next segment because there

(59:51):
is something of all of the thingswe could talk about, there is something
that keeps gnawing at me with regardsto how the Astros spent their offseason in
this case didn't And we'll tell youabout that when we come back next here
on the eighteen. Hey, it'sRobert Ford from the Astros broadcast team.
Catch every Astros game on Sports Talkseven ninety and the iHeartRadio app Home of

(01:00:14):
your Astros. All right, whileDan Field's the phone call that it should
take to win these tickets, Iwant to talk about what just was in
the back of my mind all weekendlong, because again, like I said
in the first segment, you don'tgo out and these you know, spend
ninety five million dollars on Josh Haterif you can't get to him. Although

(01:00:37):
they did get to him, theygot to him. He was actually used
quite a bit this weekend. Firsttwo appearances, struck out the first five
batters that he faced, got twoshut out innings in and then he pitched
a third time that was yesterday inthe ninth overused. I know it's I
know it's the first series, butI mean, yes, all three of
those guys, because Abreo pitched himthe only two games he was available,

(01:00:57):
and Presley pitched. Yeah, Ithink I would call overus because if you
just extrapolate that, if they're pitchingthree out of every four days, even
three to four times a week,is probably stretching it. And you do
need to concern yourself with That's that'sa legit concern because it was there before
the season and now it's already playedout. It's Week one. You got
short starters, you got nobody youcan trust in the middle relief, and
now you're going to them. Imean, Pressley pitching the seventh may sound

(01:01:20):
odd. I thought that day itwas smart to do it at that point
and then going seven eight nine ina game you certainly didn't have a handle
on. You weren't winning, theynever were winning. But I understood why
he did it because he's trying towin a game. But you don't want
to kind of man. That's onething you know, managers do struggle with.
You don't ever send a lineup outthere you don't think can win.
You don't ever send guys out thereout of your bullpen you don't think can
help you win that game. Butyou can't help but consider the big picture

(01:01:45):
all the time, the bigger playoffpicture, the bigger We have one hundred
and fifty eight more games to go, We got another twenty five games this
month, or whatever the case maybe. We got another thirteen days without
a day off. Those things matter, and now they are four games in
with those thoughts on their mind.So here's the thing. And I know,
the first time I really thought thiswas when I think, I think

(01:02:06):
Chandler Rome was the one that saidit. And this is not this is
not an attack on Chandler. It'sjust that this was it was understood Hector
Nrris film Aton and Ryan Stanek werenot coming back. It was just understood
by who everybody. You didn't hearthat early on this offseason. Yeah,

(01:02:30):
well, I'm just saying why. That's my question, because what are we
talking about here right now? Yeah, runners in scoring position didn't come home.
Yeah, you're awesome. One two, three. Dominant relief pitching at
the back end wasn't good. Well, it wasn't what you wanted it to
be. In certain points of thegame was awesome. Let's be let's be

(01:02:52):
real. It was bad. Well, Hayter was good except for when he
wasn't right. He's the ninth inningof a tie game. He gave up
a run. That's bad. No, I know, I'm I'm not disputing
that. What I'm saying is whythat's the question you asked is exactly what
I've been saying all off season before, and then I really started saying it
during this series. Why are thoseguys just unceremoniously said, Okay, leave

(01:03:13):
get out beat it. I mean, I'm not saying this because I know
this. I'm saying this as apossibility. You just made a huge mistake
the previous offseason. This guy pitchedreally well for us. We're the team
that's going to overpay him, andit's a three year deal. Talking about
Montero, right, So now Nerrishas had back to back good seasons for
you, the best, arguably thebest two seasons of his career is at

(01:03:35):
Combo, and you don't want tobe the team that makes the mistake that
the next couple of years that you'renow paying him bigger money, big money
for you don't want to be theteam on the hook for that, So
that maybe explains him bad reasoning andit'll probably play out that way the two
PHILM. Mayiton's contract level is solow, still no reason to be out
on him. And Stank is thesame thing. Stank just signed, he

(01:03:57):
just SA yesterday. And again,I definitely I got it. Surprised more
people didn't say it, and maybeit was elsewhere. Yeah, and I'm
sure the guys they let go havebeen just fined so far, well,
none of them have given up arun yet in a weekend, a whole
weekend, but of games, Nerrisand Mayton have each pitched twice. Stan
three of those guys, regardless ofwhat happens this season, are going to
have better years than Montero. AndI can say that forget about Montero.

(01:04:19):
That's that's a problem in and ofitself. You didn't open the door for
Montero. He was already in theroom, right you let him talk.
Now, you opened the door forTaylor Scott and Parker Mashinsky and Seth Martinez.
And you didn't just open the door. You said, here's your seat,
come on in, it's your team, you're here. We don't really

(01:04:40):
we didn't sign any Taylor Scott makingthe team shows you how little they did
to try to accommodate for how muchthey lost, and that will, I
mean, how much you're just assuming, Oh, this offense that we have
is going to be fine to getus through whatever bumpy, choppy waters are
going to be and that stick fishinning. But it's not happening. And

(01:05:02):
it's not just injuries. You're you'regoing into the season saying, well,
it doesn't matter because our offense willsee So you're okay with it being bad,
You're okay with it being substandard. You're admitting to it. You're taking
a step back, and we're noteven adding to one other thing that was
a part of this whole decision makingprocess. He didn't have a lot of
innings for the Astros last year becausehe wasn't here all year. Kendall Graveman

(01:05:23):
zero innings in twenty twenty four whenthe year ended. I mean, he
was already hurt at the time, but maybe they thought otherwise. I'm not
a huge fan of Kendall Grayman.I'm just gonna say it. That's fine,
but these are all guys that atsome point last year you're like looking
forward to the future and now noneof them are here, right, like
four middle relievers for a team thathad the last two years in the postseason.

(01:05:44):
Some last year not as much, but obviously the World Series winning year.
And I think maybe the worst partof it was the standic one because
that one feels like, well,I know, I know for a fact
he wanted to be here, andthen secondly, it wasn't gonna cost you
an arm and a leg. Heck, you could have added him anyways,
even if you thought these guys thatwere talking about were going to be the

(01:06:06):
stop gap, because that's that's howI feel like, you know, we
should really characterize this. I mean, the Astros will never admit we're okay
with that, like you're saying it, but that's what they're saying. That's
what they said with their in action. I guess as it's like, if
you're Dana Brown, you're be thinking, man, he's standing probably could have
been better than any of the guyswho weren't good this year, and at

(01:06:29):
some point of the off season, right before he signed with Seattle, knowing
what you know, because this wasnothing, they weren't aren't surprised by why
who they're using maybe had the results, but you could have had him.
I would think for four and ahalf four, seven, five, five.
He signed for less than that topitch for Seattle. Mayton got six
and a half million to pitch forTampa. Hector got nine. He got
a little he got less than that, a little, a little bit more

(01:06:53):
than he got last year. Orhis was a one years deal. Yes,
all of them were one year. They were all that's right, that's
right, Okay, yeah, Idon't know. He got nine. I
felt like I felt that. Ifelt during the That goes to the money
where Montero does matter. Now,well, you're you're sunk. Yeah,
you got eleven million dollars into aguy. It makes you feel how much

(01:07:14):
more can we spend on these otherguys which they could have obviously replaced if
they weren't spending nineteen point or nineteenmillion dollars on one player nineteen point five.
That's what a brave is. No, no, no, I'm talking
about the hater deal. Oh okay, I got you. I mean,
instead of repla hater's gonna be great, mind that though, right, But
he doesn't. He's not going togive you two hundred plus innings he's going

(01:07:36):
to give you seventy Now, hemight help you win a higher percentage of
those games because the only pitches weren'there to win and he closes it out.
I got my getting there is goingto be that much more difficult.
I got my nineteen point five milliondollar player. A year's mixed up.
And that's what really grinds my gearsabout. If we're gonna talk about Jim

(01:07:56):
Crane's spending, no one's called I'mnot calling him cheap. I just think
it's misplaced money. He's proven he'llspend money, he's just spending on the
wrong guys. Those are the tworight now, and again it stands out
more than any others because of thewho, when and why? Who did
it? The non GM led Astroswhy, I don't know. They kind
of felt desperate they had to dosomething before they hired a GM. And

(01:08:18):
these are the two moves that arestill hurting you players. If they were
great, this would be a lotof money. I don't think anybody.
I'm not gonna lie and say Ihated the Abray who's signing the player,
because when they signed him, Ithought, okay, they upgraded from YULEI
offensively while downgrading defensively. I thoughtit was super expensive. I was surprised

(01:08:40):
they were the team willing to spendall that money. But when you're winning
and you know this, you thinkthis is going to help you win,
big deal, You got better andyou spent to do it. The problem
is he's bad. It just strikesme as a badfielder and a bad offensive
player. Yeah, bad is beingnice. I mean it's an automatic out
again. And I was listening tothe Yankees rebroadcast, sorry, and they

(01:09:02):
were talking about things that every teamin baseball knows. They just keep feeding
him heaters because they know he can'tcatch up with it. That's a bad,
bad place to be for nineteen anda half million dollars. Ugh,
it's gonna age like warm milk years. Seven games from now, you'll be
halfway through that deal. I hateyou, all right. You know what

(01:09:24):
I don't hate Berkeley Eye Center.Berkeley Eye Center. At a time where
everything seems to cost more, includingyour first basement, this spring Lasik price
at Berkeley Eye Center is not justless, it's a lot less. Is
in ten percent less than their Lasikprice last year. It's actually their lowest
Lasik price ever Berkeley Eye Center thelowest price ever and it comes with interest

(01:09:46):
free financing for up to two years, so you can enjoy the upcoming spring
weather without the hassles of your glassesand contacts. You know, the best
part is about having Lasik two whenit comes to Berkeley Eye Center and that
Lasik procedure, you never have toworry about the summer months that are coming
up. When you know you getout of the uh obviously you know sixty

(01:10:09):
fifty degree air that you have inyour vehicle, and then you hit that
Houston humidity and those glasses fog upand you start just inventing swear words.
You don't have to do that. You've got Lasik procedure done. You don't
have to worry about glasses or contacts, and you're getting it for the lowest
Lasik price ever. When you callthem, it's seven one three five two
six eyes. Tell them Adam Clantonfrom Sports Talk seven ninety gave you the

(01:10:30):
number, and tell Berkeley I Centerat seven one three five two six e
y E S that you are interestedin their Lasik procedure, or you can
learn more at their website b eC Lasik Dot com. That's b e
Clasic dot com. Back to AdamClinton and Adam wex Florri at pun Sports
Talk seven ninety for the Bunner Homeof your Restros. I need to uh

(01:10:55):
share with the with the class atext message I received and I'm not this
again. This is a fan butI am going to read aloud because it's
funny and I think you're gonna appreciateit as one of those where you can
barely get through it. You're laughingso hard like you're already doing the fact
that Astro's management again, I'm readingaloud from a text Astros organization. If

(01:11:17):
you're listening, the fact that Astro'smanagement feels Fromber is a two and not
a four. Tops is part ofthe problem. Dude, is a sweating
Pete Monroe? What come on?Gets better? There's a follow up better
than a Pete Monroe catching a stray. It was like, man, he

(01:11:42):
follows up? Should it have beenkirksar loose instead? See here's the thing.
I don't think it's very popular toback Fromber, but that's ridiculous.
Here's the thing. I can't notknow that he was on the mound for
Game six I can't unsee his twentytwenty two season. I can't unsee even

(01:12:06):
leading up to that. Remember,I know Carlos Correa stomped over to him
in that empty stadium, fall ofplacards and gave him that pep talk and
he got out of that jam,and that was kind of the beginning of
the dominance. And oh, bythe way, had a no hitter last
year, even if it was againstthe Guardians. So what you're saying is
you can't unsee what he used todo, and you can't unsee what he

(01:12:28):
recently did. Something's in there,so you're aware that he lost. They
lost all three starts he made inthe postseason last year. Yep, But
since your memory is so good, you probably also remember they were ten and
two in his previous and only othercareer postseason starts. When the brights have
been the or the lights have beenthe party, he's been yeah, so

(01:12:51):
so lately lately, No, hewas terrible lately. But in twenty twenty
two four starts, four wins forthe Astros, twenty one one five starts,
four wins for the Astros, twentytwenty three starts, two wins,
and one of his non starts. As you recall, was the wild Card
game where he came in and pitchedthe fifth and sixth and seventh and eighth

(01:13:14):
and ninth, gave up two hits, no runs in five innings of relief
work. I said, that guy'sin there. You don't forget how to
pitch like that, You just don't. And it's not And all those recent
those games were all like recently, and they're all game ones in game Two's
what I'm saying is making sure you'renot down to or making sure you're up
to oh, or you've even thingsup. So to this person sending me

(01:13:38):
this text, while it's funny,I can't. I just I feel like,
you know, this is kind oflike my you know, undying devotion
to jose Erkeaty, which is probablyat this point a little overblown. Yeah,
a little much, but not fromber. Okay, Comber's got skins in
the game and anti the comment thatmanagement thinks this about if they thought that

(01:13:59):
he'd be rich and he'd have anextension, and she does a five year
plus future astro. You know what'sfunny about this is this is his contract
year and they've basically said, allright, prove it. That's what they're
doing. There's no other way tolook at it. Do you know how
much time we spent this offseason talkingabout Alex Kyle and Fromber's seasons this year

(01:14:20):
as it relates to their contracts, well, ninety five percent on Alex huh,
about five percent one percent on Fromber. Yeah, that's exactly how it
went well because Tucker's way down theline. Alex is right now and Fromber
has looked like crap And can youknow, I don't unless left on Thursday.

(01:14:42):
That's what it's like. It's almostlike, okay, once he gets
through the third time through the order, is that where we start? You
know, he was bad all theway around, just because he couldn't throw
strikes. We mentioned it with Jeffon Friday. It just looked like he
had even more movement than usually, just couldn't figure out how to get the
movie been into the strike zone becauseit would start on the edge and fly

(01:15:02):
way out of the zone, sonobody was swinging at it, so they
just kept walking. But when hewas putting his pitches in the zone,
they were diving and they were beatingit into the ground and hitting into double
plays and not lifting the ball thathe wasn't in trouble because it was a
barrage of hits or a barrage ofhard hit balls or long fly balls or
near homers. And here's the probinglike that, just one start, right,

(01:15:23):
But here's the problem for the Astrossince you just said that, which
is that's very pertinent. But here'sthe problem for the Astros. If Renel
Blanco gets taken out of the yardtonight, which is very possible, they've
got it to be the first starterto give up a homer. Great,
and what's their record? Again? They don't have any wins. If he
does, how much more pressure ison fromber in start number two on Tuesday

(01:15:45):
night? But he should feel it, should he really? I don't know.
I mean, he's about get down. I also think that's the way
out of did he did he lookmentally broken at some point in that game?
He was frustrated, he wasn't throwingstrikes. He didn't melt down.
He looked mentally broken in the alcsAnd I'm not kidding when I say that.

(01:16:05):
I didn't think he didn't look comfortable. But did he look like he
was go back to the fanless?I guess it was the fanless year where
Carlos came over to him after hewalked beyond Santiago. So I mean,
I'm glad he did, and heprobably recognized it or thought it was the
time where he needed to say something. But I've almost after his first year

(01:16:26):
or two where he really could notthrow strikes, he figured that out right,
and for the most part he hasbeen able to He's going through a
long stretch for a picture this goodof instability. This is a very long
stretch for a picture with this muchability. Who's proven it for three four
years. This is not normal. You don't normally have this long a stretch
of being on You just don't knowwhere the ball's going. And what's funny

(01:16:49):
is okay say he walks after theend of the year. You don't have
to deal with that anymore. Youhave another hole in your rotation. You've
got enough of him right now.Well that's maybe. I mean, you
got nine pitchers that might be healthyat the beginning of next year. Eight
if he's gone and none of themare Spencer Raghetty. If Blake Snell ends

(01:17:11):
up having like a really dominant yearfor the Giants, and it could go
either way it really could. That'snot gonna go over very well. So
they should have spent thirty six millionon him. Well, how about any
of these other options we mentioned?Who are the other options? Well,
we just ran through it with theirown bullpen guys, But who are the
other options. They don't They don'tneed to go outside starting pitching. You
can only have so many. They'rehurt, and you might desperately go out

(01:17:35):
and do something. At some point, you're gonna have six, and then
you're gonna have seven, and thenyou're gonna have eight, and then you're
gonna have nine healthy pitchers. Probablywas Hunter Brows, a guy that was
not able to eat innings last season. Eat is maybe a little strong award,
but four innings is mintal. He'snot gonna have shouting shorter than that.
I don't think even when he's moresuccessful, they issue once he gets

(01:17:56):
healthy where he couldn't go long. We'll see how this manager works with his
pictures. Some managers like to itjust move on to the bullpen, and
some don't. It just feels likeDana and whomever in the front office thought,
we've got enough internally, we don'tneed to go do anything and I'm
so far, so bad. Iknow it's one series games. I realized
that and the other team's bullpen wasawesome, basically perfect. Yeah, I

(01:18:23):
can't say what I want to calltheir closer successful. No, that's not
the word Clay. Why don't youjust call him Clay Clay Bill Clay.
No, I wanted to call Actually, it is a name. I bet
it's a name. It just wantsYou're a huge name caller. I know
it's a name, not that kindof name, just a regular name four

(01:18:44):
letters. Well, when I callyou Adam, I'm I'm name calling.
It's just nice. It's all right. Five o'clock hour coming up next.
Our football at five conversation is ahead. Two lifelong Houston sports guys named at
him talking your Teams series. AdamClinton and Adam Wexler are the A team

(01:19:09):
A. You're right at Busser.Football's five o'clock. Some five o'clock football
professionals and balls in America is aspecial game. The time to talk a

(01:19:30):
little football will get away from theAstros. Uh. The Astros and Texans
won the same number of games inMarch and April. So far, neither
have played any in April let's befair to the Texans and the Astros.
Astros played tonight open a three gameseries against the Blue Jays off season work.

(01:19:50):
The dates for every team came outlast week. Mentioned the Texans.
We'll have their time a little bitlater this month. But three teams are
getting started, all three with newcoaches, are getting started Tomorrow. The
first of the off season programs beginfor the Falcons and their new head coach,
the Chargers and their new head coach, and the Commies and their new

(01:20:12):
head coach. Not so unsurprisingly, these teams that have new coaches that are
beginning their offseason programs first are draftingeighth Atlanta, fifth the Chargers, and
second the Commanders quarterback going to Washington. I think we can pretty well settle
in on them drafting Jayden Daniels.Kay Williams is going first, Jade Daniels

(01:20:33):
is going second. No trades. There's also not going to be trade at
number three. Wait to take thesuspense and Patriots are going to take Drake
May and then the draft will begin, and then the Chargers will see what's
on the table for them. Andconsidering they have justin Herbert, the draft
is unfolding brilliantly for them, andJim Harbaugh said as much when the coaches
were talking. He was talking atthe owners meetings. They I mean,

(01:20:59):
yes, if they needed a quarterback, it would be different. But you're
drafting fifth and you are just everypossible draft pick except for one, whoever
goes fourth, is on the boardfor you, and you only have the
fifth pick. It's unbelievably lucky.I think if it draft works out that
way, you want one of thebest receivers, well you're gonna get Harrison

(01:21:19):
or Neighbors if you want them, and they could certainly use them since they've
rid Justin Herbert of nearly all ofhis weapons, mostly financially related. Mike
Williams had been hurt, Keenan Allenwas traded, and they both had massive
contracts and cap hits. But that'sa pretty awesome place to be. Something
that one of the very well respecteddrafts prognosticators and analysts out there tweeted today

(01:21:44):
I thought made a whole lot ofsense from a Texans point of view,
Daniel Jeremiah. Every once in awhile you'll ask me, who are the
guys you listen to or follow orwant to hear from the most and he's
definitely among them. At movedsticks dotcom long long ago, when he was
a next to nobody, we hadhim on the show like every week and
he said something about this draft andsome of the positions, how difficult they

(01:22:05):
are to rank and rate, toughestpositions to stack this year running back and
safety. There's a clump of guyswith the same exact grades. I think
we see a huge run on bothpositions. Late second to mid third Texans
trade with the Minnesota Vikings from latefirst to early second. Now the Texans

(01:22:28):
have the forty second pick, thefifty ninth pick, and the eighty sixth
pick, which is right in thatwheel, that cluster of players he's talking
about. Obviously, Joe Mixon's undercontract for several years, Jalen Peatrees under
contract for two more years, JimmyWard's under contract for one more year,
and they did not play the safetymarket in free agency. Yet I wouldn't

(01:22:51):
be shocked at all if either oror two of those three picks were used
on a player at those positions. And I think that's exactly why I think,
maybe my personal opinion, I'm notsure how many running backs actually are
going to be flying off the boardat any kind of cluster that early in
the draft, and I do considerearly second early part of the draft.

(01:23:11):
But I definitely think he's right whenit comes to the secondary, specific to
safeties, and I think the Texanswould be extremely wise to invest in a
very young safety, one that theymay be envision it is going to be
better than Jalen Petrie, one thatcertainly needs to be on the field alongside
him and maybe in front of anolder, aging, oft injured Jimmy Ward,

(01:23:32):
who I love as a player.I just think they signed him specific
to be a huge part of lastyear's team and were hopeful he could be
a part of the team in hissecond year of his deal, which is
obviously still hopeful for You can't replaceeverybody all the time. You can't draft.
You know, twenty two players can'thit every position. But I definitely
think those are ones that because ofwhat's available, because we just watched them

(01:23:57):
move out of the first round. To me, it's for this exact reason.
Granted, the picks they have todayI'm a little less than a month
out from the draft twenty four daysmight not be the picks they actually execute
because knowing Nick Cassario, it's veryunlikely they're just gonna be sitting there through
the first eighty six picks of thedraft. Just take the two players they
have or three players they have atthose three slots, have two more picks

(01:24:20):
before one thirty. Again, I'dbe shocked if they landed five players.
What he's gonna do, and he'sgonna move his way around, he might
end up with three better players asopposed to five total players or better draft
picks. I don't know how theseplayers will make it, but that's usually
how he plays it. And again, those areas I think are really correctly

(01:24:41):
located in that pocket of players.I'm wondering though, like if they stamp
pat right, what's the what's theoverall pick? Again, the first of
their picks is forty two, fortyI wanted to say forty seven for some
reason. I just something keeps tellingme, and I know what you're gonna
say. I already know what you'regonna say. Something keeps telling me though
offensive line, offensive line, offensiveline. I just want it to be

(01:25:06):
I want it to be indestructible, let's put it that way. And I
don't think it is. And evento you get it right, you usually
just keep doing it. Two yearsago you took a first round or Kenyon
Green. Last year you took apick on Juice Scruggs, And I mean
neither one of them are hits yet. Kenyans barely played and when he has,
he played poorly, and Scruggs wasthere for part of a year at

(01:25:28):
a position you might not want himat if you view him as the future
starting center. So that's certainly farfrom a lot because he hasn't even done
it yet. So you, yes, I would think you would hit it
again. First, what's the worstoffensive line that has ever won a Super
Bowl? Especially in front of asuperstar quarterback? I mean you obviously we've
talked so much about mahomes o linethat didn't win the Super Bowl but was
in it right and that, Butsee that line was not unhealthy all season.

(01:25:54):
It was just unhealthy at the worstpossible time, and it was why
he got his trains beaten in weren'tgood. I mean they literally replaced three
guys coming off season. They werealso going up against an amazing front that
Tampa Bay had. But think aboutthat, whenever Tom Brady had a bad
offensive line in front of him.Ever, No, I mean Peyton Manning
never had a bad offensive line. Those quarterback rogers, like I believe CJ.

(01:26:17):
Will and did already make them betterbecause of what they're able to do.
But there's still a separation with theTexans offensive line. They're perfectly fine
as past protectors, right, theyare very below average as a run blocking
line. And I don't want,I want, you're right. I'm just
saying you're talking about how the quarterbackin the quarterback, he's gonna be able

(01:26:40):
to throw, he's gonna have timeto throw, and he's gonna be well
protected. He's not gonna he'll bein the middle or the good side of
how often he gets sacked. He'llnever be among the league leaders with this
type of group. But they mightrun into trouble running the football. He
might be facing second and ten toomuch instead of second and six. Second
five is And we've talked about TroyAikmans and how anemic they are just because

(01:27:01):
of the way that NFL football wasplayed back when he was winning Super Bowls
with the Cowboys. Was so muchmore running, so much less passing.
But the principal remained, you hadthree hundred and fifty pounds average monsters all
across the line that were going toblock for either him or Emmit or that's
one hundred years ago. I know, like nobody. Do you think teams

(01:27:24):
still build that way? I don'tknow. No, not necessarily exactly that
way. But what I mean is, Okay, translate that to today's NFL
game, the best of the bestof the best offensive lines. Put that
in front of CJ. Stroud andsee what he could do. Then if
he's doing this with a just finepass protection, what would you do with

(01:27:45):
a great all protection offensive line? And that's why, even though I know
they have holes on the defensive sideand I know where they're picking kind of
lends itself to whatever position you mightbe talking about. I just and you're
right, you keep trying until it'sit is the right fit or it is
the right group. I just wantI want him to be given every chance

(01:28:08):
to succeed up front, no matterwhat. Remember this, and I know
you're aware. Make sure everybody elseis also. Panthers, Colts, Falcons,
Rams, Chiefs, Cardinals. That'ssix teams. Those are the six
teams that have more money tied upon their offensive line. Just those six
than the Texans than the Texans.Yeah, but that's not that doesn't solve

(01:28:30):
the problem. That's why it's abigger problem. Ral Montero is making a
lot of money. They are throwingmoney at it, and it is not
has not been solved to your liking, right, and I do like again,
this is kind of like the KenyonGreen draft pick reminds me of some
of the defensive line draft picks thatthe Texans made under Rick Smith, Like

(01:28:51):
they just either it was a fitin the case of Travis Johnson or Amobia
koy Age, is never panned outlike it was these You could the clear
desire to spend a high coveted draftpick on a trench's position, but for
whatever reason, it didn't really translateuntil a few years later. Restructures this

(01:29:11):
offseason for both Shaq Mason and TitusHoward. They have all the cap space
they could they need for whatever itis they want to do this year.
They're still back up well above twentyactually closer to thirty again because of these
new restructures. In the fact thatthey even the I mean they've spent money.
They've obviously spent on autry and DanielHunter and the money that's still due
mixing this year. Again, alot of this is for more than one

(01:29:34):
year, but just on this year'scap they spent on all those players.
Took the money off, like theGrenard money went from zero to Hunter's money,
like he was making nothing. Youropposite edge rusher from Will Anderson last
year, who was awesome, makeno money. Now the edge rusher opposite
Will Anderson is like the highest paidedge rusher in the league. That's a

(01:29:57):
huge difference to how you're allocating yourfund. I mean, for Hunter to
significantly outplay Grenard, he might beup for Defensive Player of the Year if
he does that. That's how goodGrenard was last year, and Hunter was
too. Hunter was really really good, but he wasn't way better than him.
He was probably just slightly better thanhim. Yeah, I don't want

(01:30:18):
that to be an offset situation either. You know, where you let these
two guys go and this guy comesin and it's basically a wash. No,
I think both players at those positions. Talking about the straight swap of
Hunter and Gernard and then the TennesseeInn and Cashman out alsha here. I
think Cashman was awesome the time hemissed and the time he wasn't trusted like

(01:30:43):
he needed to be, And thatwasn't the coaching staff's fault. I think
they were learning to see how bestto use him at the beginning part of
the year. Although he had anawesome camp, I think shah here will
have an even bigger impact than Cashmandid, maybe in different ways, but
I think there's a specific reason whyhe's here. The speed that he brings
in, the ability to you know, tackle in the open field. He's
I think he is a might bethe least discussed most awesome addition this team

(01:31:09):
ends up making this offseason. Weobviously didn't even mentioned Denico Autry. But
did they got better? Yeah,no, it's not. It should not
be a wash. So so draftsoffensive line is what you're saying you can.
But again, if you're drafting atackle, I'm sure you mean interior
because if you're drafting a tackle, then they need they're gonna be ready to

(01:31:30):
play minimum starter by their second year. Well, how are they going to
do that? Neither of the tacklesyou have are going anywhere, at least
not by twenty five. Typically guardsare taken though later, right, maybe
not that early, Like I'm notgonna take a guard at fifteen if you're
the Texans and it's twenty twenty two. Oh man, all right, let's

(01:31:56):
get to in case you missed it. Next here some of the things we
have not discuss on a Monday,April Fool's Day edition of the A Teams
A Team. One of the thingsthat has been just revolutionary here in the
city of Houston and really across thecountry is the alternative to surgery and the

that phone call today to upgrade yourlife seven one three nine one three fifty

(01:33:26):
eighteen My Sports Talk seven ninety We'reRockets and Astro's play and real Texans talk,
no doubt. On a Monday fullof lots of weekend activity, there's
a few items, pretty iportant onesthat we might not have had a chance
to get to, worthy of ourtime and discussion yours as well. That's

(01:33:48):
why we have in case you missedit to where does it start today?
Dan? All right, So youguys were just talking about where the Texans
could go in the draft. Couldthey maybe go a little bit outside the
box. So Burns, the bigman for NC State, has a lot
in the NFL world incredibly curious aboutcould he have a future in football?

(01:34:09):
Do we have a hotkeey in thesystem that screams at the top of its
lungs. No, you can't playthat. I don't know. I could,
you know, because I don't wantto. I don't want to do
it. I don't want to bethat mean, Okay, you don't.
We don't really want the Houston Texansto draft DJ Burns, do you.
Well. I wasn't saying that theTexans could. I'm just saying that.
I mean, if you, ifyou're the fan of any NFL team,

(01:34:30):
you wouldn't want them to do that, would you? I probably would not
do it. I because the factis is, as soon as I saw
this story come out earlier, Istarted looking around, like, has he
even played high school football? Imean, we know about the Seli defensive
end last time he played football accordingto Dj all right, but it's been
a while and he wasn't six seven, two seventy five. I don't think
at the time. I think he'sgotten a little bit bigger as a college

(01:34:54):
basketball player, and it hasn't.This wouldn't be the first time. I
think most people point to Antoni Gatesfirst because of his lack of college football.
He played college basketball and then becamemaybe not the best ever, but
he's an all timer at the position, there's no question about that. A
decade of excellence and dominance with theChargers, so it could happen. Rico

(01:35:15):
Gathers another name that people bring upbecause he at least made it and played
games in the NFL. But thisis just like outside the boxes is a
good way to put it, andyou could be the team that hits.
But I sure wouldn't want to doit if I were. I mean,
they're not that hard. What areyou expecting from him? Like, you're
only doing it because you think he'sgonna be awesome, not because he could

(01:35:36):
be your fourth tight end. Youcan find that easily. You're doing it
because you think you're the team that'sgonna luck out and hit a home run
with this quote unquote find it's sounbelievably unlikely, and I'm not even sure,
Like I'll ask you, you've watchedhim play, is there something about
how he plays that makes you thinkhe'd be a good NFL tight end beyond

(01:35:58):
the measurables. I mean, themeasurables are one thing. But Jim Nagy,
a guy that we will have onas we get closer to the drafted.
Executive director of the Senior Bowl, says, A plus footwork great,
he's playing tight end. Can herun arount? Can he block anybody?
He has great footwork for an oversizedbig man in college. Have you ever

(01:36:20):
seen his name is Kenny? Isn'tit Kenny Lofton, the guy who's humongous
and can't stick on an NBA roster. I know I'm thinking Kenny the former
baseball player. It's not Curtis. He played for the Grizzlies. He's played
for a bunch of other teams. He lights up the g League every time
he's there. He has unreal footwork, but he can't play in the NBA.

(01:36:45):
And I'm not sure what about someonewho's college footwork is embarrassing these other
college bigs. Philipowski had no ideawhat to do with him. It was
hilarious, but I don't I'm notlooking at him and saying, man,
this guy should be an NF couldbe an NFL tight end. Duke is
so hateable. It was I justwanted to throw as much as I despise
NC State for obvious reasons. Thirtyplus years running forty Now that still was.

(01:37:08):
As Dan pointed out earlier, whenDuke loses satisfying, it's very satisfying.
I like that. But now thatthe actual I gave my opinion and
I don't run any NFL teams. Is he going to be in an NFL
camp in the fall of twenty twentyfour. No, he's not, in
my opinion, but if you guyslike to answer, feel free. He'll

(01:37:30):
be probably playing overseas or in theG League, would be my guest.
He will have at least one morecollege basketball game this year. I believe
just one. That's it. That'sit, and then he's done Saturday night.
What else? All right? TheNFL twenty twenty three performance based pay
announced in brock Perdy, who onlybrings home about eight hundred thousand a year,
He was one of numerous NFL playersthat was able to almost double their

(01:37:55):
pay. Now, this is forguys who are undrafted free agents, mostly
Day three picks, although there wasone Round two guy in there, or
Osirus Torrents for the Bills second roundguy, but he was able to add
through the performance base pay about eighthundred and forty seven thousand. No Texans
on this list. Is the lastTexan to have this kind of I mean,

(01:38:19):
was this scenario even around when ArianFoster had to get paid. It's
been around for a while, butit's more geared to those draft picks.
But yes, that would have beenin this he was an undrafted free agents
and was on the practice squad andthen I still can't believe that happened.
Like even he didn't even have likelike things sticking out that were such red

(01:38:42):
flat. He just like had someoff the field situations. I guess,
Minor. I still can't believe Arisawas on their practice squad for months before
he was on the field. I'mlike, I can't believe Arian Foster fell
through the cracks like that. That'sjust in saying to me still here in
twenty twenty four, anyway, wayto go, Brock, you doubled your

(01:39:03):
pay. You almost made two milliondollars this year. But I was it
eighty sixty five that he pulled infor this? Yeah, seven thirty nine
was the performance base pay that hegot. Hmm, So good for him,
Kevin Porter Junior has a new home. No, it is not in
the NBA. According to Sham Saranyaand Kelly Ico, it is going to

(01:39:26):
be with Greek Basketball Club paok BCfor the rest of their season. As
that where I had him pegged,I was gonna put him directly in China.
So Greek a Greek basketball league,Okay, I mean I'm surprised,
to be honest, Like, I'msurprised it took this long for him to

(01:39:46):
latch onto an overseas league. Butgood for him, I guess, yeah,
go play basketball. I mean again, everything about the case that was
brought against him has been has reachedits conclusion. Is he like, do
you think that's like a Trevor Bauersituation? Almost? I mean, I

(01:40:09):
don't think he has years and yearsand years of This is why you should
despise me as a human like Trevordoes. He made mistakes as a guy
that was had a hard time controllinghis own emotions with Cleveland. Clearly that's
why they let him go with theincident involving management and teammates. He had
some issues before he even got tothe NBA, and then this off court

(01:40:31):
issue, which is a humongous onehappened obviously, the locker room incident with
the Rockets when he left and duringa game, those are all literally left
the arena. But you know, there's probably people with Cleveland, probably people
at SC I know there's people withthe Rockets that still personally feel like,

(01:40:54):
you know, I want to domore. I really want to help him.
There's a good heart there. There'sthis all sorts of other things.
I think that list of people sayingthat about Trevor Bauer is extremely small and
has been for a long long timenot well liked inside clubhouses, which is
not well liked period. There's Idon't who his agent likes him. I

(01:41:14):
was just about to say about it, Rachel, what's her face? It's
he's just, he's just he's it'sokay to be different, because I think
that's the first way. But youmight describe him. He was different at
UCLA. He's been different with wantingto do everything his own way, how
he prepares, how he rehabs, how he just works through being a major
league capable pitcher, and at onetime he was, but that's not He's

(01:41:40):
so anti team in a team sport, it's very hard to deal with.
That's why I always laughed at theidea that he'd ever be an astro.
It has nothing to do with canyou can the city, the community.
His teammates get over some of theseother things. They can't get over him,
and a clubhouse was not going toget over him the top of that
list. And it's baseball related. It's not about could he help him pitch.

(01:42:00):
They don't want him in their clubhousebecause they don't like him, right,
and again it's not because it's justwho he is. He's unlikable.
He's a douchebag. It's a technicalterm for it, all right. So
he is pitching for a team thatis not in America, like the story
began with KPJ. Yeah, allright, when we come back, this
is a leftover from Friday that Iwanted to get to, especially let's heat

(01:42:24):
it up. It says what we'regonna do, We're gonna put in the
microwave, and it's Rockets related. We'll tell you about that when we come
back. Good listen to Rockets Radioor your smart device. Just ask lay
Sports dot seven ninety on iHeart Radio. It's time for a hot take about
the Rockets. So we do here. This is the eighteen x A C

(01:42:45):
and Dan hot take every day. It's not hot take Monday, it's not
hot take Friday. It's just hottakes fire away. Should I start going
by my last name only to dothese hot takes? No, that's kind
of a me move. Wex tier, Yeah, exactly, with the hot
take. Give me a hot takeon the Rockets. Let's still wex only.

(01:43:06):
Well, unfortunately it's not either oneof us that or either of the
three of us that has the hottake. Instead, it's Noted Dallas,
Maverick Hank, Tim McMahon. Yeah. Well, the Rockets and the MAVs
got together in Houston this weekend,so Tim probably didn't have to go very
far to write all sorts of sweetnothings about Luca. He got on the

(01:43:29):
Rockets train late in the Winning Streetcovered a handful of those games. Yeah,
he did, and then he poopooed them. Just listen to what.
There's no way once albri and Shingooncomes back that he and Jalen Green
can coexist. I'll just tell youthis. When we talk about vulture circling,
some of those vultures have have Rocketsgear on because they absolutely want to

(01:43:53):
take a big, big swing inthe trade market sooner than later. And
there they've got a ton of youngtalent on this roster. Obviously, you
know, I don't know if bothHinggoon and Green are going to be here
long term. My guess, andI emphasized guess, is that one or

(01:44:14):
the other would end up getting movedat some point for them when they take
their big swing. But they haveunprotected Brooklyn picks this year in twenty six
and an unprotected swap next year. They've got that as the draft capital AMMO,
and then a lot of you know, intriguing young talent on the roster.

(01:44:34):
If there are stars that emerge onthe trademarket, I believe the Rockets
are going to take swings. Soagain I preface that by kind of poking
fun at Tim, but it isan actual not only interesting topic, but
feasible unless, of course, youthink that once alprynching Goon comes back,

(01:44:59):
they'll be able to co exist heand Jalen Green. If you're one of
those people that thinks that Jalen Greenhad this outburst only because Shingoon was on
the sideline, then you're all forthis. You just have to decide who
it's going to be. But here'sthe thing, even if that's the route
the Rockets go, there has tobe a star out there, and I
don't know who that is. DonovanMitchell is the only guy that's like not

(01:45:21):
sure to be back where he isnext season, and from all accounts,
he wants to go play for theNew York Knicks for some reason. He
wants to. He wants to takeJames Dolan's money. Reason and put up
with it. What what is itYou're gonna take some of Jalen Brunson shots
and not win because that's what you'regonna do in New York. Okay,
yesterday and they lost, So backit up. Donovan Mitchell signs with insert

(01:45:44):
team here and wins the title.Fill in the blank for me. I
know what you're saying. He's nota championship number one in my opinion,
Wow, what if he was?Okay, why should I say anything otherwise
Because it's hard to do. Irealize that, But if you're really good,
it's a lot easier. Well,in his defense, and I've been

(01:46:05):
defending him since he was in Utah, he had Rudy Gobert. That's twice.
Man, you almost cussed he hadreally unsuccessful players around him. Well,
don't worry, because Rudy Gobert thinksthat the NBA should investigate Alex Caruso
for going at his legs instead ofsaying, hey, I'm seven too,
maybe I should watch myself out onan NBA floor. So the Knicks COVID

(01:46:29):
patient zero are not going to winthe East this year? Right, Neither
is anybody else that's not the Celtics. Correct. If the Celtics don't win
the East for whatever reason, whowould you bet on to win the East?
Bucks, Calves, Knicks, Sixerswith Joel Embiid's imminent return. Probably
the Sixers, Okay, because Idon't trust the Bucks. So take defeatively

(01:46:51):
take those teams. The Bucks specifically, the Sixers specifically, and the Calves
also very unlikely that any of thethree of them get significantly better next year
because of how they're constructed. TheKnicks have the same record as basically all
those teams you're talking about. They'recurrently fourth, they're half game back of
the Caves, three back of theBucks. Can him be the Rockets?

(01:47:14):
So if the Knicks take the team, they have a healthier version next year
and Donovan Mitchell's on it because theysign him, they don't trade for him.
Correct, So doesn't that make themthe second best team in the East.
Again, they're still not better thanBoston on paper, probably, So
what's so bad about going to theKnicks if you're Donovan Mitchell Because James Dolan
screws everything up. When's the lasttime they've contended for a title? And

(01:47:36):
don't say ninety nine in the lockoutseason where they accidentally stumbled into a matchup
with the Spurs, ninety nine inthe lockout season when they accidentally stumbled into
a matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. Did I get it all exactly right?
That Van got an eight seed? Can't do it? But a six
seed can Rockets won? Is asixth seed? Well, the difference is

(01:47:58):
one of them did and they wasn'ta lock out shortened season. No,
I know what you're saying. Ithink Mitchell's probably a little bit better than
that. But I wonder if youthink that about Mitchell, what do you
think about Dame? Because Mitchell andDame's previous stops in Utah and Portland respectively
very unsatisfying. I mean Portland didmake a conference finals, and I still
can't believe Portland didn't win more withDamon CJ McCollum, Nurkic, LaMarcus Alridge.

(01:48:28):
I mean they beat the Rockets ona fluke. Yeah, and like
many other Houston oh knows, allthey had to do was get have that
Parsons bucket, be the game winner, get it back to Houston, and
off they go. They advance, they win in Houston, they move on,
and they didn't because of that shot. But I do think there's some

(01:48:48):
the East is going to be jockeyingfor that second place position for a while
and Mitchell is one of those playersthat's gonna somewhat dictate that. And all
the while, the Mavericks, ifthe defense they played yesterday coupled with the
two stars offensively they clearly have,is something they're going to bring into the
playoffs, even at four, fivesix wherever they end up. To me,

(01:49:12):
they actually are a live Western NoI'm not picking them, but they're
going to be even as good asDenver, Minnesota and Okay, see that's
the gotta beat. They still haveto outplay Luca's team that's probably the best
he's had, even the team thatadvanced. I think this team is better
and he's playing unreal. Okay, are you ready for this? Just last

(01:49:34):
night, I'm gonna take that andjust rain. Forget the wet blanket.
This is going to be Niagara Falls. He's not getting half those calls.
He's the white James harden Man.Does he complain a lot? I actually
was talking about that last night, like that's literally who is He's so good,
he's Doughey. He's unstoppable offensively, especially from behind the three point line.

(01:49:55):
He plays zero defense, he windsnon stop, and he's not very
likable. He's talking bleep to theRockets bench as he's running around trying to
get it. Dude, e MayIf this were nineteen eighty six, Ima
would have clocked him and nobody wouldhave done anything about it either, because
he would have deserved it. It'sall started with a conversation about Jalen and

(01:50:15):
Alpern's future. They're tied together fortwo reasons. When these conversations come up,
clearly there's some on court chemistry interms of are things better when they're
space or they do they need togo through Alprin? Do they obviously have
answers when you know, at theend of games, when Alpern's been healthy,
what have they done. They justgive the ball to him. He
either draws a double team or hetries to get the game winning shot.

(01:50:36):
Whatever. But the other thing isthat the timing these happen to be the
two first two players added. They'rein the same draft class, they're at
the same point of your first roundpick, and when the options go in
and when they're eligible for extensions. That's why they're brought up together so much
more often, because a decision onJabari Smith Junior and Tari Easton clearly doesn't
have to be made anytime soon, even further away from a men and Cam

(01:50:58):
Whitmore's decision. By the way,Cam Witmore came back last night, he
looked the same as he did whenhe left. Athletically speaking. Three steals
also a nice step in the rightdirection. He played the passing lane very
well. The dunk he had likehe had nothing left and he still made
it to the rim. He tookoff from so far away and just made
it there and flushed it. Ithink he might be the reason why Jalen's

(01:51:21):
the guy that moves two. Imean again, this is way, putting
the car that George did this monthis just his trade value. He upped
his would never look at it thatway, but you're probably you have to.
I don't have to, just youdo. They were winning because of
him. He was making winning plays, winning passes, winning buckets in overtime,

(01:51:43):
leyden rate. He was winning gamesfor them. I know those are
usually the players you keep, butit's a month's worth of it over a
three year career. I understand. The thing is they're both heavy. However,
heaviest I can put on minus defendersis significantly best, playing the passing
lianes better, and he's actually efforting. If I may make up a term

(01:52:04):
that I use all the time, shingoon's not good defensively. Also, it
doesn't always get exposed because teams don'teither have players to do it, or
they're not the coaches aren't intent ondoing it, or they do and he
just goes at him. Anyways,in the case of that stick that plays
in San Antonio keeps putting up bignumbers. Look at the two against everybody
not named the Rockets, Chet andWemby. Look at you know Chet when

(01:52:27):
he was when he played without Albi. They manhandled him two point six fouls
the other side. He Alpi wasn'teven his defender. He got blamed for
a lot of it all, butit really wasn't his fault. They let
him hang out on the perimeter andbarry jumpers, and they played that and
didn't. He was bodying Jabbari insideJabbar. Every time Jabari gets knocked out
of the way, I just dieinside. Coming off his second highest scoring

(01:52:49):
game, he was very good yesterdayin a blowout loss. All right,
final segment coming up next here ona Monday edition of the eighteen I'm cleaning
that. I'm went for the afternoonteam, covering your team to last center
fail. It's Sports Talk seven ninety, home of Astros Baseball. Ray for

(01:53:11):
the saddest but most accurate, bestpart of the weekend at minute made for
me. I will enjoy it asyou spend the last segment of twenty twenty
four with your listeners without an Astro'svictory. Right now, you're guaranteeing,
huh yeah. Tomorrow when we gethere at three o'clock, we'll be talking
about the Astros. Say it likethis, dub I garled to you,
They're gonna win no, all right, have you watched the Inside the NBA

(01:53:32):
documentary? No, you need to. I was thinking about treating our listeners,
the older ones, because we weregoing to talk about Thursday, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday's Astros games. Yes, I was thinking about going into
the archives for some NBA inside stuffassistance on that Thursday. Well that's not
Friday and summer Senators, But Ididn't. She was a swimmer, right,

(01:53:57):
and then a TV host? Yes, sor right. I guarantee the
Astros are going to win, andyou were gonna take us somewhere else.
The best part of the weekend wasgetting not one, but two Cheetos popcorns.
And if you don't like it,if you don't like Cheeto's popcorn,
you haven't lived yet. You needto try it now. I will say
this about the Cheetos popcorn, whichyou can also get in the Texans Home

(01:54:19):
Stadium. A couple things. Actually, when you are consuming it, if
you are actually using your fingers toeat the food, you're going to have
those fingers that you use stained fora good three days. We're talking forget
yellow number five dot. This isthe most orangey orange I've ever seen in

(01:54:41):
my entire life, which makes mewonder what it's doing to my insides.
But I digress. They've downsized them. They told me I couldn't have a
full size one, and the containersthey put them in are smaller than last
seasons. I got the whole lowdownon Cheeto's popcorn from the lovely attendance along
the first baseline on the field levelat Minute Made Part. But I so
I said, all right, giveme two. That's what I did.

(01:55:02):
Nice man. That was the bestpart of the whole weekend there, well,
last weekend, Thanks for change.George Springer will bring his two homers
to Minute Made Park. He's leadingoff with one. Brunelle Blanco will throw
those pitches to him. As heleads off, he hits Blanco out of
the park for the on the firstpitch tonight. How like Twitter is gonna

(01:55:26):
shut down in Houston, right well. Blanco's last appearance at Minute Made Park,
he faced Space Cowboys, mister Hamilton, and he's all right Hamilton.
He took him out of the yardon the opening at bat and then he
blew them away for the next severalinnings before walking off the mound to enjoy
his brand New Family. Yeah theywon that one. Oh, they won

(01:55:48):
a home game. Interesting, that'snever an exhibition game. Have you seen
our boys? Space City Sports keeptallying all the losses this cursed stadium.
That's what he calls minute made. Now they're like were in twenty seven or
something. It is outrageous how goodthey were at home? To think what's
happening now, like they weren't goingfor six. No, it has nothing

(01:56:11):
to do with that Dodgers fail andYankees fans. Frankly, it's it's the
Space City uniforms, the City Connectjerseys adorn the Astros type another bad sign
fifth instead of behind Jose Brew ratherin front. Oh good, So the
automatic out comes after Diaz but beforeChas McCormick. The rest of the lineup
looks like it has. So thisis going to be an all a bray

(01:56:35):
you slander account for the foreseeable future. What if he homers? What if
he doesn't, then he will bemore like he's been. That's the best
retort. What if a break youhomehomers? What if he doesn't? You
got me? I mean and thenumbers is you like to always point to
back me up? Yeah? Idid not like some of what I had
to post out there earlier today onwhat the Astros some of the numbers.

(01:56:59):
Oh, I saw it well.I read the first few words of it
and I was like, I'm notreading this because I was mad. You
got eight hits from the catchers. You got six hits from Altuve, three
of them extra base hits. Hehit his first homer of the season.
I think I indicated earlier outside ofJake, nobody hit homer that obviously was
erroneous. Still the Yankees father,no matter what the outcome was. Jake
and Chaz each drove in runs, and they're first at bat of the season

(01:57:20):
and have not done anything since otherthan single once in seventeen at bats while
striking out seven times. I wonderif Ross is still the president of the
Jake Myers fan club, A prettysmall group, but probably in the Astro
starters versus the Astros, bullpen isthe obvious big discrepancy. Bullpen was bad.
Five homers and fifteen innings. Startersdidn't give up any homers. Three

(01:57:41):
of them left with the lead, and even JP Francis outing yesterday in that
he got quote somewhat deep into thegame, pitch got two outs in the
sixth inning before he was lifted andprobably got overworked because of our little spring
training he had. He did agreat job. He was down, but
they tied it up before ultimately losingtwo to one run loss book ended the
series. A two run loss andan embarrassing loss were the other two.

(01:58:03):
What did the kids say? Ihate it here? That's what I felt
all weekend long. It's again.I don't They're not gonna be unless they
have a sweep in their immediate future. If the Blue Jays, it's gonna
take a minute for them to recoverfrom this. If the blue Jays sweep
them, I want permission on third. I don't need permission to come in

(01:58:24):
on Thursday and start throwing tables overon the air. If you can throw
this table that's in here over,you don't think I won't. You don't
think I can. I mean,it's look at it's not the temporary table.
Think about not at a Bill's tailgate. Think about the rage I would
have after seven straight losses to startthe season. I don't anticipate that.

(01:58:44):
I didn't anticipate what already happened,But I do not. I already told
you they're gonna win tonight, theybetter or I'm gonna hold you accountable tomorrow.
That's fine, that's fair, allright. You know, over the
weekend you had options. Now,if you had an ass if you were
an Astros fan, you didn't havethe option of watching a win. But
that's not our fault, and that'scertainly not the fault of the good people

(01:59:06):

why they were giving you options. You add an option to go to either
