Hello and welcome to the AFC Donscast, your weekly Red Army
update bringing you everything Aberdeen FC, Aberdeen Women and
the wider Scottish game coming up in this episode we build up
to a huge Premiership clash at Bataudry as the Dons took on
Celtic earlier today. We've got the latest transfer
news, including new arrivals andcontract updates, plus a look at
Aberdeen Women's squad as they strengthen ahead of the new SWPL
(00:35):
season. There's all the latest Trumpet
Audrey, including Europa League ticket news as we prepare for
our playoff tie. And we'll have a full round at
from the weekend's action acrossthe SPFL and Highland League.
So let's get straight into it. This is the AFC Donscast win a
little long if you want that. We can conquer it hard.
Win a. Little long if you're.
(00:59):
Honest. We can defeat them.
(01:53):
Hello, it's Graham here. Hope you're doing just dandy.
Oh, I did just say that. Aberdeen, we're back in action
today for our first match of theseason after told you to face
Celtic in the lunchtime kick offand our manager Yami Talin now
in a second season at the helm. We've enjoyed a bit of a
resurgence this week. Guided us to our first Scottish
Cat win in 35 years back in May Defeating Celtic in a traumatic
(02:15):
penalty shootout at Hampden. Has already picked up multiple
Manager of the month awards since arriving last June.
That cap triumph has added an extra edge to the fixture today.
Celtic will be keen to avenge that defeat, while to lean side
will want to prove it was no oneoff and to kick start our
campaign following the defeat against Hearts on Monday.
With a full house at Pittodrie and the Red Army a full voice,
this one promises fireworks. Ahead of the match, the manager
(02:38):
spoke to Red TV. Jimmy, it's always a big day
when Celtic come into town. How's the preparations been this
week? It's been good.
I think we prepare well and we're ready for the game and
looking forward to the game and the first league game at home at
Pittodrie again and it's nice weather and it's like a nice
day. You obviously lost against
Hearts for the opening game of the season, which was not going
(02:58):
to be easy. They they'd already played four
competitive games. How quickly do you think you
guys can get up to speed to be where you want them to be?
No, I think like we were, we feel ready before the first game
also and and we always have to be ready.
And then of course we're going to hope we're going to grow
during the season. We have to we have to always try
to get better and better. But today we have to show our
(03:19):
fans and at home here told you that we are up to speed.
I was outside a little while ago.
It was great anticipation out there, you know, Scottish Cup
winners coming back to play at home for the first time.
It's a nice feeling. It's a it's a good feeling and
that's what we need to use. We need to use this good energy
and these good wipes and and give everything we can on the
pitch tray. Couple of changes to your team
(03:40):
noticed. Alfie Dorrington comes in today.
Yeah, and Matt's feel a little bit in his in his groynes.
We don't want to risk him. So we make some changes and
everybody's ready. And Dorrington is a good player
also, so it's going to be good. We're looking forward to it.
Best of luck. Thank you so much.
Thank you. Thank you.
We kicked off our home campaign against Celtic in bright but
tawdry sunshine and while the Dons had our moments, 2 moments
(04:03):
of quality from the visitors proved decisive in A2 nil
defeat. The Dons started with bite,
pressing Celtic high and snapping into tackles inside 7
minutes. Adela Shish forced Casper
Shmeichel into a fine save, the Celtic keeper tipping his 20
yard curler around the post. Moments later Aberdeen broke
from a Celtic corner, Shish looking to release Toby Keskinen
as Shmeichel read the danger. Celtic began to find their
(04:26):
rhythm and on 27 minutes they strack, Kieran Tierney bursting
down the left and firing in a low ball for Nigrin who poked
past Dimitar Meet off at full stretch. 2 minutes later Tierney
set up Rio Atati but Mitov divedsmartly to keep it out.
The Dons dag end to reach halftime at one nil.
Early in the second-half Forresttdap dies in Maeda but Mitov's
reflexes denied him. Abdeen responded with Kiskanen
(04:48):
going close, his shot deflectingoff Kasini Yengi before the
Australian striker was replaced by Esther Sokler.
On 66 minutes Celtic doubled their lead, Forrest picking out
Hatati on the edge of the box and the midfielder curling a
perfect effort beyond Graham, Shinny and N off the bar.
Abdeen through on fresh legs, including Clarkson, Modus, Boyd
and Polvara, and almost found a lifeline when Polvara latched
(05:10):
onto a deflected cross, only forSchmeichel to smother his
effort. Celtic managed the closing
stages professionally, making further changes as the match
fizzled out. Jimmy, what's your thoughts on
that match today? I think some parts in the in the
first half were good, how he arrived in transitions, but he
couldn't used to transition in the best way to create a chance.
(05:33):
It was close but not the last past or the last time.
He was not really there then. I think like Celtic overall were
a better team. They create some more dangerous
situations that we did the things we have to improve is the
the last last edge. We can say the last 20 minutes
when we are down and create somemore opportunities, play with a
(05:55):
little bit more risk at home in front of our fans to put some
pressure on them and give us a chance come back in the game.
And also when we have the ball at we can we still we still have
this like we arriving back to our own goal instead of breaking
lines and and play forward. So we have parts to improve and
and that's my job to keep pushing this on the training
(06:16):
sessions and and keep the direction of the game on on the
pitch so we can break in throughmore and be more front footed
attacking team as we want to be.But right now we they're really
the connection is not really there.
It's so much hesitation. So we end up a little bit more
backwards than forward, but small, small steps forward.
But of course, we want more. The times where you did move
(06:38):
forward quickly, you looked impressive and could have caused
Celtic a few more problems. Yes, I must say this timing like
we, we also have some opportunities against Hearts
that were close, but still we'renot really there.
We need to do do better to decide these goals.
On the on the other hand, we need to also a little bit more
clinic in our own box because right now in these two games,
(07:01):
you have to score three goals towin the game.
So we also have a bit more balance like football is not
attacking, defending, it's all connected.
So this balance and this timing we have to improve.
You made changes but unfortunately Celtic scored just
before that first change. That must be annoying for a
manager because you're about to bring on Leighton Clarkson,
yeah. I think like in that moment, it
(07:22):
was not so much things happeninginside the game.
They were under control with thewith the ball.
But still if it was only once here, we had the chance to get
back and get some new energy. And of course that second goal
was not the perfect timing. I think the players come in had
this 1st 10 million with with energy, but then the last 10 we
didn't arrive in the situations. It's a busy time for you, lots
(07:45):
of cup football, lots of European football, but there are
positives to take from today that the squad will appreciate.
But as you say, still some work to do.
We have more work to do and again the training pitch is
important now to to be ready forthe next League Cup and then the
playoffs and then the league again.
So we have to take steps to to serve more in our performance
(08:06):
and then we keep working with the recruitment and let's see
how the window is closing. Thank you.

RED TV. All the latest transfer news The
AFC Dons Cars transfer centre. You meet Aline has laid out a
strict 3 point checklist for anynew signings as the Dons look to
strengthen ahead of the rest of the season.
Speaking this week, Taline made it clear that the club won't
just bring in players for the sake of it.
(08:54):
Every target must meet three keycriteria.
The right ability. Players must clearly improve the
squad on the pitch, The right attitude.
They must buy into the culture and demands of the team.
The right fit for the club, bothin terms of style and the long
term project Al Pataudry to lead, now in his second season
in charge, says Aberdeen's recruitment team is working hard
behind the scenes to find the right additions, but he's happy
(09:15):
to be patient rather than rash deals that don't match his
vision. It's a philosophy that served
him well last season, guiding Aberdeen to our first Scottish
cap in 35 years and building a squad that blames workrate,
tactical discipline and technical quality.
The manager has also confirmed that contract talks are ongoing
with Sheed and Modest and several other players.
Shaden has been the subject of several failed bids from Luton
(09:36):
Town. The 23 year old winger is out of
contract at the end of the season and the Dons are trying
to extend that deal. Captain Graham Shinny, Dante
Palvara and Esther Sokler are others who are now in the final
year of their Pataudry contracts.
It's been reported that we have pulled off what's being
described as a bargain transfer coup, securing Serbian under 21
international Marco Lazetek on afree transfer with only a 20%
(09:58):
sell on clause. The Dons had been in talks with
AC Milan for several weeks, withthe Italian giants eventually
demanding a 50% sell on a key sticking point in negotiations.
Milan had been looking to the cover part of the £3.5 million
they paid Red Star Belgrade for Lazetek back in 2022, but
Aberdeen stood firm, insisting the higher percentage didn't fit
our player trading model. And then again we got her man on
(10:20):
their terms. Reports in Italy last night
suggested a 50% sale on had beenagreed, but that's, well widely
the mark. Instead, it's a deal that could
prove to be one of the strudest bits of business in recent
Pittodrie history. More than that on our socials if
and when confirmed. And meanwhile, the Dodds woman
have signed three more players. This past week we strengthened
our attacking options with the signing of experience forward
(10:42):
Bridget Galloway on a permanent deal following her departure
from WSL 2 side Nottingham Forest.
The 26 year old Heads N with an impressive track record in
English football having previously played for
Sunderland, Durham, Newcastle United and most recently
Forrest. Galloway made her senior debut
for Sunderland in 2016, coming on to replace then future
(11:03):
Women's EUR winner Beth Mead in a W SL1 clash against Notts
County. She went on to make 51
appearances for the Black Cats, scoring 37 goals including her
first in Red, Black and White, Awinner against Liverpool in the
WSL cap in 2017. After three years with WSL 2
side Dedham, Galloway moved to her childhood club Newcastle
(11:23):
United, with her seventeen goalsheld fire the Magpies to the
Northern Premiers Division title.
She joined Nottingham Forest in August last year, signing a one
year deal, and has also represented England at Under 90
level on 7 occasions. Bridget, a very warm welcome to
Aberdeen Football Club. How does it feel to be here?
No, it feels amazing to be here. You know, just talk us through a
(11:44):
little bit how the move came about and when you first heard
what the farm was. Well, I got a phone call to say
that there was interest obviously and then talks went
favour and I just thought it sounds great, like the what
Scott said and yeah, just couldn't wait to get up.
You come from my PEDs, We were playing for some really big
(12:04):
clubs, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland.
How good is those experiences been for you so far?
Yeah, they've been really good. Like obviously took away a
valuable experience from all clubs.
All clubs face different challenges and I think it's just
built the character that I've become today.
So yeah. You're a striker, you're a
(12:25):
proven goal scorer. We've seen that your past clubs.
What kind of striker are you? The traditional #9 striker, I'd
say so, yeah. Hopefully see a lot of finishes.
We've also signed Chelsea goalkeeper Katie Cox on a Susan
Long loan. The 19 year old has been with
Chelsea since the age of eight, signing her first professional
contract with the club in Augustlast year.
(12:48):
Well, coming through the Academy, Cox made history as the
first ever recipient of the Chelsea FC Women's Academy
Player of the Year award, although she has yet to make her
senior debut for the Blues. Cox was part of the treble
winning Chelsea squad last season, travelling regularly
with the first team and serving as backup to recent EUR winner
Hannah Hampton. She also featured in the match
day squad for their Champions League semi final against
(13:08):
Barcelona the year before. On the international stage, Cox
is a regular with England's under nineteens, playing every
game in their ran to the semi finals of the 2024 under €19 at
a rival at Pittodrie is seen as a key signing for Scott Boo's
side as we look to strengthen our squad for the new SWPL
campaign. Hey, Aberdeen.
Fans Katie Cox here. Can't wait to get started.
(13:30):
Come down to watch. The game soon.
The women's team have also strengthened that attacking
options with the signing of forward Alex Clark on a one year
deal. The 23 year old makes the move
from Northern Ireland after a successful spell with NIFL
Premiership side Linfield for she netted nine goals in 22
appearances. Before her breakthrough at
Linfield, Clark was best known for her Gaelic football exploits
(13:50):
with Cross, Mcglenn and Armagh but also playing for Newly City
as a teenager. She becomes the latest player to
take the well travelled route from the NIFL to Scotland's
SWPL. A quick direct attacker with a
sharp eye for gold, Don's manager Scott Booth says he's
delighted to add another option to his frontline.
Alex, a very warm welcome to Aberdeen and a very warm welcome
(14:11):
to to Cormack Park. Unfortunately, it's not always
this this sunny, this warm. But how's it feel to be here?
Yeah, Great, great. Yeah.
And it's really warm. So I suppose that that has the
situation. Yeah, I suppose I couldn't turn
this opportunity down and they don't come around too often so I
couldn't say no. It's obviously sad leaving,
leaving the girls in Linfield, but there's a solid group there
(14:31):
so that they'll push on really hard to the end of the season.
I'm fast enough so I think, you know, if we can utilise that
against the big teams we can punish them.
So I'm hoping, hoping that's theplan.
Yeah. Listen, you've all those ups and
downs and in football we everyone does.
And suppose I I had an injury a couple of years back there.
(14:53):
So it's nice to come back from that and push on.
And suppose he didn't give up mydream and I'm here today.
So I suppose I've been with Bridget for coffee today too.
So it's a great girl. So it'd be nice to get chatting
to Carrie and and Tony Lee. So it's good to have the one
from home too. It makes it a wee bit more at
ease for you, for you coming in this and I'll get in here first,
(15:14):
you know, and get get minutes. But that that's obviously the
the next goal and the next target to to push on and and get
get an international call up. Yeah.
And finally in this section, Jess Christie has joined SWF
Championship side driver at Athletico loan and to the end of
the season. More Don's news straight after
(15:39):
