(00:07):
Oh. It was meant to be a fresh
chapter, new faces through the door, renewed ambition and the

(00:30):
chance to build on last season'shighs.
But just a few weeks into the Premiership campaign, it feels
like we have stumbled out of theblocks.
On paper, this squad should be more than capable, proven
signings, experienced heads and players with European pedigree.
But football isn't played on paper and so far the Dons have
struggled to put it all togetherwhere it matters most on the
pitch. Defensively there have been

(00:51):
lapses. Midfield has too often been
bypassed, leaving the back line exposed and then attack.
While there been glimpses of quality, we're still waiting for
that cutting edge to shine consistently.
For the fans, the frustration isn't just about the results,
it's about the manner of them. Slow starts, cheap goals and
moments where we've looked second best in battles that
should be ours. These are the fine margins that

(01:11):
shape a season and right now Aberdeen are on the wrong side
of them. But let's be clear, this is an
all doom and gloom Esper. Carlson brings flair and goals,
Kevin Nesbitt has shown you can deliver at this level and Stuart
Armstrong's experience in midfield could be priceless once
he's fully integrated. The question is though, how
quickly can this team gel? Because every drop point now

(01:31):
only ramps up the pressure later.
Europe, domestic caps and the unforgiving grind of the league
will test this squad like never before.
So is this just an early wobble or the start of something more
concerning? That's the crossroads Aberdeen
find themselves at. What's certain is that history
shows when this club has its back against the wall, it knows
how to respond and the Red Army will expect nothing less.

(01:54):
Andrea McKay, welcome to the AFCDonscast.

(02:42):
But totally hosted the return ofPremiership action on Saturday
as we faced Livingston. With both sides looking to kick
on after the international break.
Yamatollene was aiming to build momentum and see us climb the
table, with a strong home performance key to setting the
tone for the coming weeks. Here's what the manager thought
ahead of the game. A couple of weeks since we last
spoke here after the Falkirk match.
How have the the last two weeks gone in, you know, preparation

(03:06):
for for this match today againstLivingston?
No, I think it's been good. We have some changes inside the
squad, some movements in and outand now we know we have the
squad is going to do it this season until the next window and
I think the preparation has beengood.
We are training well and everybody seems ready and no
injuries. Do you see this now is the maybe
ideal opportunity to to put the decision point and run behind

(03:27):
you and almost kind of hit the reset button after you know the
the two week break there? We always try to look ahead and,
and, and, and right now that look in the past, of course we
know the the situation. We we have to start winning
games. It's important for us and but
also the performance levels and can decide the results.
Some parts have been positive inthe games but still not strong

(03:50):
enough to win. And let's I must have a strong
belief today that's going to show ourselves and our fans that
we are taking steps forward. I can show a good performance
today, a good result. You mentioned a few changes to
the squad, a busy deadline day. Of course, two of those deadline
day signings, Kevin Nesbitt and yes, but Carlson are in from the
start walking. Obviously we we know a lot about

(04:11):
Kevin, but what can the the fansexpect from from this Ben
Carlson from the start today? They're not well and of course
always time to new the new teammates, but they are good
players. Smart players can adapt quick
and now they always have to playwell as a team to get the best
out out of the individuals. But their strengths are of

(04:32):
course around the box, polymers box and how to arrive to finish
the situation. So hopefully the team can
support them and give me the chance to be what they're doing,
what they're good at. Also a debut for Emmanuel
Giamphe as well. He's one of seven changes to the
to the side that started againstFalkirk.
Got some minutes in the Aberdeenshire Cup.

(04:52):
You excited to have him available eventually?
Yeah, no, why we signing? Of course he has been a tough
start because he has been out for a while now, a little bit
injuries and haven't played so much.
But I think it's time for him now to get the the the minutes
he need to perform on the level and all we can do.
And it's a good time to start today to to show to show the

(05:14):
team that how good he is. And just finally on Livingston,
they've started the season relatively well.
What have you made of them so far?
And you, you're confident you can deal with them today.
They're a good team man again, as every team in this league is,
never eased. The games they have, the
strengths in how they press and how they're trying to arrive to
the box. But of course also we have to

(05:35):
show our performance today. I think that's what they're
focused on this week's now, evenagainst Forker, but then was a
disappointment in our performance.
It was not good enough. It was not intense enough, so
today we are looking for one anda positive mindset and about our
own performance. That's the most important thing.
Perfect. Good luck today.
Thank. You so much.

(05:57):
There were seven changes to the side that lost to Falkirk.
New signings Jasper Carlson and Kevin Nesbitt made their debuts
along with Emmanuel Chayanfi after injury.
Graham Shani, Seibert Helner Nielsen, Adela Shish and Alfie
Dorrington also came back into the starting 11.
The dawns began brightly in the September sunshine at Pataudry,
Carlson and Nesbitt both going close in the opening exchanges.

(06:17):
Livingston threatened to with Yenge denied by some crucial
defending chances came and went,Jensen forcing a fine stop from
keeper Pryor and Carlson fighting into the side netting,
but half time arrived goalless. After the break Aberdeen pushed
again as Sheesh curled Jess White.
Polvada's long range effort was tipped over and late substitute
Lazettich almost won it in a stoppage time, striking the post

(06:37):
with the final kick. The Dons had opportunities but
couldn't find the breakthrough as frustration showed around the
ground as we remained bottom of the Premiership.
So I draw this afternoon againstLivingston.
What are your thoughts after that one?
No, I think everybody is sharingthe same frustration right now
and we're trying to get the performance level so higher to
deserve a better result. But right now we're still a

(06:59):
little bit not really there. And, and this is the thing when
so many fans coming here today, so many numbers and you can't
get out exactly what you want infront of them.
So the frustration to share. But it's our job, the
expectation of high when you a manager or a player not playing
football club and we try to be in Europe or win something every

(07:22):
year. I still think the strong belief
that this is going to end reallywell.
But right now we have to focus on the short term to get into
the league rhythm and and get the points that we can get a
better rhythm on the team. You you started relatively well
today. I thought, you know showed
promising signs that to Debbie talks on the left Emmanuel and
and yes, we're linking up well is that a positive for you

(07:44):
alongside, you know, Kevin Nesbitt and Armstrong off the
bench as well? No, I.
Think all the players had made the first game for Aberdeen
today, did really well. You see they are close even in a
short time to find a relation with the teammates and I think
every week now they are a team but a bit more and better

(08:04):
written on the team. So did a good impact today.
And the chances we created was in the first half of three big
chances and in the last Part 2 good ones and not so many
against us. But still then it's not enough
for us right now to to send homethe fans with a good spirit and

(08:25):
a good emotion. So we we have to do better now
we have one week more to train to the next game and hopefully
we can see that in the in the inthat part.
Do you think it's a case of you know, that that being a factor,
the fact that you know, there there are plenty of new signings
through the door that it might take time for the the new
signings to gaol and and for things to start to click?
Well, I think like it's easy to use as an excuse, but it's not

(08:47):
an excuse for us. We have still the long term
project. We invest in some young players
that we believe in the future. We have signed some performance
players to perform right now. It's been a big turn around in
the summer, I think 12 or 14 players in and out.
But right now our focus is the short term to get the points to
give us the time to get the better rhythm of of the team.

(09:08):
So we know we have to do better in this part.
There are obviously a few moments, especially late in the
game, the the big chances it wouldn't go in Clark and had one
blocked Lazatech hitting the post.
Do you feel that? You know that's a a massive
frustration because you as the the manager, you obviously can't
put the ball in the back of the net.
You know the the sideline there.I think that everybody know,

(09:29):
again, you can feel the frustration a day and it's not
it's harder. And that's the thing we share
with our fans is the expectations when you play at
home and with the energy and right now we have to play a
little bit faster and quicker. What we want to do, we're doing
right now. And sometimes it can be these
situations when we're not going, but we have to create a little

(09:50):
bit more and arrive with this quality and don't and handle
this pressure that arrives on the team when you are in this
position and handle that and keep focus on the don't lose the
the line how we how we're tryingto grow and be better as a team.
Attention now we'll turn to to next week here against
Motherwell in the the cup, a biggame 1/4 final and a a chance

(10:11):
hopefully for for Aberdeen to get back-to-back to Hamden.
Yeah, it's another competition, but of course we always try to
achieve, to win something every season, to be there in the
finals. So that's the focus of that game
to get through to the Hamden andalso get better performance from
the team so you can get results also in the in the league.
Perfect. Thank you very much.

RED TV. Why should you watch Slow
Horses? Why am I?
Having to explain this slow. Horses is about my character
River. He's an everyman.
But also Superman, Oh my God, don't give me that slow horses.
It's a mix of John Le Carre, James Bond.

(11:14):
Meets the office. Totally gripping and addictive.
You talk me through your thinking here.
Take out the bad. Guys, it's one of the best
things on TV. That's what I thought.
I really think you come forever and you stay forever.

(11:35):
Seriously, shut up. I pitched straight from the Slow
Horses mouth. Slow Horses season 5 premieres
September 24th on Apple TV Plus. All the latest transfer news the
AFC Dons Cars transfer centre. In a flurry of transfer activity

(11:58):
on the final day of the transferwindow, the Dons brought in no
less than three players. We completed the permanent
signing of Kevin Nesbitt, with the Scotland international
striker returning to the GraniteCity on a three-year deal from
Millwall. The 28 year old made a major
impact during his loan spell at Pittodrie last season, scoring
14 goals and providing 5 assistsin 38 appearances.
I'm playing a key role in the Dons historic Scottish cap

(12:21):
triumph. Nesbet began his senior career
at Partick Thistle before spellswith the Beetrovers, Dunfermline
and Hibs moving to Millwall in 2023.
He also has 11 caps for Scotland.
Yeah, I think so. I think even the way last season
finished and how last season was, I kind of felt at home here
as well. So yeah, I was just was always

(12:43):
about my mind and always like what?
And I'm I'm glad. It's happened, but he pulled off
a real transfer coup on deadlineday with the arrival of Swedish
international Yesper Carlson. The 27 year old winger joins the
Dawns on loan from SETI, our side Bologna and crucially,
he'll be reunited with his former boss.
Yeah, Mutilian here in the northeast.
Carlson becomes Aberdeen 12th new signing of the summer, with

(13:04):
the deal finalised just before the transfer window closed.
Esper began his career at his hometown Clab Falkenberg's FF
before his breakthrough move to Ellsberg in 2020.
He made the switch to the Netherlands with Arizona Alkmar
for around €2.6 million, going on to score 35 goals in just 89
editor busy appearances. That form turned heads across
Europe with Lazio, Napoli and Fiorentina all showing interest,

(13:28):
but it was Bologna who secured his services in 2023 for a
reported 11,000,000 million euros.
Carlson also boasts international pedigree, with 14
caps for Sweden and five goals for his country.
It's not every time I'm so confident or good with attention
with this kind of things. I'm quite relaxed, nice.

(13:50):
But yeah, I'm happy that people are happy to have me here.
This is of course something I, Ireally feel also when I when I
come here, that is so nice people.
So that's that's that makes me happy.
You've played for some for some big clubs in your career.
Yeah. Are you excited?
To get started. Though here at Aberdeen.

(14:11):
Yes, for sure. I can't wait until Livingstone
on Saturday to start with and then it's just game by game.
So I just, I just want to get started and play with the team
and yeah, win some games. And I'm going to put you on the
spot. Here for the last question, do
you have a message? For the fans.

(14:33):
Yes, it's it's time to everybodytogether to to get the the first
three points on Saturday to start with and then we're going
to have a nice season together. That's what I hope.
We also secured the signature ofScotland international Stuart
Armstrong on a 2 year deal. The 33 year old midfielder, who

(14:54):
grew up in the Granite City and attended Hazel Head Academy,
returns home after a career thathas taken him across Scotland,
England and even North America. Armstrong was most recently with
Sheffield Wednesday in English Championship but he boasts a
wealth of top level experience. 51 caps for Scotland, nearly 150
Premier League appearances and over 200 games at Southampton

(15:14):
where he chipped in with 25 goals and 25 assists across six
seasons. He first made his mark at Dundee
United before joining Celtic in 2015.
During his time at Parkhead, he lifted 8 trophies, including
four league titles before makinga £7 million move to the Premier
League. His journey also included a
brief spell with Vancouver WhiteCaps in Canada before finishing

(15:35):
last season at Hillsborough. Now back in his hometown, the
energetic and experienced midfielder is expected to add
real quality and competition to give Italian squad as Aberdeen
Girat for both European and domestic challenges.
I feel it's very positive. It's a good footballing
decision. It's a chance to play football.

(15:55):
You know, sometimes when you've had a bit of time out, you you
reevaluate what it is you value, what you like, what you enjoy.
And I really miss playing competitive, challenging
football. And the lure of playing in
Europe as well is exciting. It's fun.

(16:16):
And. To come back to a familiar
place, it's in Scotland, feels like a long time ago since I
played football here. I enjoyed my time, so to get the
opportunity to do that again is something that maybe I didn't
think would would happen for me,but it has and I'm very grateful
for it. There'd be some.

(16:37):
Movement out of patrol with forward Esther Sokhler heading
out on loan. The 25 year old striker has
joined Serbian Super League aside Efke Radhenichki 1923 on a
season long deal as he looks to secure more regular game time.
Sokhler first arrived in Aberdeen back in June 2023,
signing a three-year contract. At that point he had already
represented Slovenia at under 21international level.

(16:59):
Since then, he's featured 72 times in a dawn shirt, finding
the net on 12 occasions. The move to Serbia offers him
the chance to kick start his season with consistent minutes,
while Aberdeen will keep close. And finally, striker Fletcher
Boyd has moved to the English Premier League, with the 17 year
old leaving the Dons to join Aston Villa's Academy.
Boyd, who hails from Port Soy, has already made 13 senior

(17:20):
appearances for Aberdeen, scoring twice since his debut
against Hibs in May last year. Having first joined the Dons
youth system in 2017, the highlyrated forward has quickly risen
through the ranks, establishing himself as one of the most
exciting and prospects at Pedaudry.
He'll now head South to Birmingham for what described as
a significant undisclosed fee asAston Villa look to bolster

(17:41):
their Academy with one of Scotland's brightest young
talents. More Don.
'S News straight after this. Talk me through.
Exactly what happened from the start.
People are banished from MI 5 toslay house for one or two
reasons. One, they're a total loser, and

(18:09):
two, they've unwittingly pissed someone off.

Who do you think Diana Tavener? There isn't a big picture to

Slough House is part of this now.
I would be amazed if you hadn't missed something to not being in
Slough House this. Time next.
Year so I'm relying on the slow horses to save me.

(19:53):
Have they ever saved you? Before, yeah.
You really care about them, don't you?
No, I think they're a bunch of absolute losers, but they're my
losers. A compromised agent, a
destabilised London and a can ofpaint Slow Horses returns for a

(20:13):
new season September 24th on Apple TV Plus.
OK, let's look at the other games from the weekend then.
And Partick Thistle moved level on points with the leading pack
in the Championship thanks to A2and home win over Airdreonians
on Friday night. Hearts went over the Premiership
on Saturday after beating Rangers 2 nil at Ibrox thanks to

(20:35):
a double from Lawrence Shankland.
So. But then we're two and winners
away to Falkirk, while Hibbs andDundee United drew 3 all in a
thrilling game at Easter Rd, Dundee and Madwell drew one all
at Dense Park. Saint Johnstone moved three
points clear in the Championshipthanks to A2 nil win over Wraith
Rovers at Starks Park. Their Firmland Athletic thrashed
Arbroath 5 nil at Gayfield, helped by an Andrew Todd

(20:55):

County at Somerset Park. Queens Park at Greenock Morton

leaders in League One after beating Kelty Hearts one nil at
New Central Park while Queen of the South lost two on East Fife.

in the Highland League with a couple of matches postponed.
Broda Rangers against Brecon City and Tariff United versus
Wick Academy were both postponeddue to Broda and Wick's
participation in the Highland League cap.
Elsewhere Clark Nicadden and Devlin Vale shared the spoils at
Grant St Park, finishing one apiece for Martin.

(21:59):
United were impressive at North Lodge Park, running out three
one winners over Becky Thistle. A Christie Park Huntley unbunks
AD couldn't be separated that one ending one O Fraser but I
continued their strong form withA2 nil victory away to Keith and
Murray and Varuli Loco secured A2 nil win over Lost Your Mouth
and the standing score line of the day came at Station Park
where Nairn County hit 4 withoutreply against Rothes.

(22:21):
On Sunday. A late injury time goal for
Celtic gave them the three points away to Kilmarnock at
Rugby Park. I accidentally shot into the air
and across the room. I was running a bath and knocked
the shampoo bottle over. I bent over to pick it up and
went to fart and as I did bent over, Pooh popped out.

(22:43):
Little Pooh pop right across thebathroom, shot across the floor.
My toilet and bathroom are separate.
You know, some have a separate toilet.
Yeah, yeah. I ran to grab some toilet paper
and some cleaning spray when I heard footsteps coming up the
stairs. It turns out my mum had got
home. I panicked, covered myself in a
towel, looked around, saw the cat there and went Oh no Simba,

(23:03):
he's pooed on the floor. But a human poo is just not the
same size, he said. It was like like a little.
Nug that just popped across the room.
Mum reached the top of the stairs and my cat just stands
there giving me the side eye andI say to mum, oh the cat shat on
the floor. Mom spent the rest of the night
pampering the cat. Oh there must have been

(23:23):
something wrong because he nevernormally does this.
You know, I wish I told the truth now, maybe I would have
got the special treatment from Mom, the Tony and.
Ryan Podcast every weekday on YouTube.
Away from Pataudry, it's been a busy international break for a
number of Don's players representing their countries.
Toby Keskinen featured for Finland, starting at their
friendly against Norway where you played 75 minutes before a

(23:44):
penalty from Erling Holland sealed A1 nil defeat.
He remained on the bench for Finland's three one World Cup
qualifier loss to Poland, leaving them third in Group G.
Kiska now has 5 senior caps. It was a prime moment for
Nicholas Milanovic who made his senior debut for Australia and
A1 nil friendly win over New Zealand in Canberra.
He then picked up a second cap in Auckland as the Socceroos won

(24:06):
three one to claim the Soccer Ashes double for Bulgaria.
Dmitar Mitov endured a frustrating week as he was an
Annu Saab in two heavy three nildefeats to Spain and Georgia,
leaving his nation rooted to thebottom of Group E.
New signing Yarten Mar Yartnessen started both games
for Iceland's Under 21's who lost 21 to the Fedo Islands and
drew one all with Estonia in their European Championship

(24:27):
qualifiers. Mitchell Frame received a late
call up to the Scotland Under 21's squad and came off the
bench for the final 20 minutes in A2 nil defeat to Portugal at
Fair Park. Rodrigo Vittles enjoyed a more
positive break, keeping clean sheets and back-to-back three
nil wins for Latvia and her nineteens against Malta.
And 16 year old Cooper Mason gained more international
experience with Scotland and hernineteens at the Slovenia

(24:50):
Nations cap, featuring off the bench against Kazakhstan and the
United Arab Emirates. It was a thrilling finale to the
Craig Brown Memorial Trophy at Cormac Park last Sunday as some
of Europe's finest academies battled it out in what has
become a fitting tribute to our former manager, director and
Ambassador Craig Brown. After an action-packed opening
day, Rangers and Aberdeen sat top of their groups but as the

(25:13):
final matches played out it was Rangers, Southampton, Pike and
Celtic who progressed to the semi finals.
The young Dons narrowly missed out finishing third in their
group by a single point but bounced back to claim 5th place
after a dramatic penalty shootout win over Lily Strong.
In the semi final Celtic edged city rivals Rangers one nil
thanks to a hardest penalty but Pout triumphed on spot kicks

(25:34):
against Southampton. Playoff action saw Dundee secure
11th place, Bohemians take 9th, West Side claims 7th and Rangers
round off their weekend with a convincing 5 win win over
Southampton. That left Celtic and Pike to
contest the final after a goalless draw including a late
penalty saved by Celtic's king. It was paid Queen remarriage to
Victorious as the shootout, withgoalkeeper Vatsos the hero as

(25:55):
the Greek side reclaimed Craig Brown Memorial Trophy winners at
the closing ceremony. Awards went to Hadley Clark of
Southampton as goalkeeper of thetournament, Rangers as Corbin
Ferguson picked up Player of theTournament and Charlie Miller
top goal scorer. It was.
March day three in the KDM Evolution Trophy last Saturday
as Aberdeen's development side made the trip to Lynx Park to

(26:17):
face in for Montrose. The Angons came into the game
still chasing their first pointsin the competition, while the
more were brimming with confidence after back-to-back
wins in league and cap. And it was Montrose who would
eventually come out on top, making three wins from three to
take control at the top of the revamp tournament.
Aberdeen started brightly and where I rewarded just after 5
minutes. A slick move down the right saw

(26:39):
Alfie Stewart and Tristan Stephen combine before Sam
McLean teed at Ryan Duncan, who blasted A superb strike into the
top corner to give Stewart Dash side the lead.
Montrose, however, grew into thegame.
They drew level on 32 minutes through Evan Tyler, who nodded
home from close range after a cleverly worked free kick.
Minutes later, Links Park witnessed a moment of
brilliance. You and Loudon met Matthias

(27:01):
Machado's cross with a stunning scorpion kick that left Yang
goalkeeper Theo Simpson stranded, turning the game into
Montrose's favour at the break. In the second-half the mole
looked sharper and were rewardedagain on 66 minutes.
The Webster curled home a free kick after a short set peace
move, with captain Andrew Stevesgiving the host the cushion they
needed. Abdeen pressed late on, sending

(27:23):
in a flurry of crosses, but Montrose sued firm.
The Adrian Simpson produced an excellent stop to deny Blair
Lions and keep the score line respectable full time at Links
Park, Montrose 3 Aberdeen Development One.
This. Is Big Brother I spy with my

(27:43):
little eyes? More shocks, more strategy, more
drama. That's right.
The house is. Ready.
The nation is ready. The question is, Are you ready?
Ready, Big Brother? Excited.
Thank you, AJ and Will. The game is changing.
Big Brother is here to play. Big Brother coming soon and ITV

(28:06):
2 and ITV X Aberdeen. Women returned to the Bomodel
Stadium last Sunday looking to build and there went away to
Montrose the weekend before lastas they faced Apartheid Thistle
site who sat level on points with them in the SWPL table.
It was a KG opening 45 minutes with both teams enjoying spells
of possession but struggling to make the breakthrough.
Kelly Beatty came close for the Dawns early on, fighting just

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
