(00:17):
When most people hear the word preparedness, their mind jumps straight to survival.
Food, water, fire, shelter.
Now, don't get me wrong, those are important, but survival is the floor, not the ceiling.
You don't prepare to scrape by, you prepare to live well, even when things get hard.
That's what today's show is all about.

(00:40):
If you spend enough time in the preparedness world, you start to notice a pattern.
People get stuck at the starting line. They buy the gear, they stack the food, and they call it good.
But survival isn't the finish line. It's the beginning of resilience.
The question isn't, can I survive this?
It's, can my family still live with dignity, connection, and purpose while this is happening?

(01:05):
When we prepare for survival, we're focused on getting through.
When we prepare for stability, we're focused on how we live through.
And that subtle shift changes everything.
True preparedness is about capability and continuity.
It's about the ability to cook, to communicate, to care for each other when big systems fail.

(01:29):
It's knowing that the lights may go out, but your family's lights stay on because you plan for it.
You didn't hoard, you built capacity.
That's when our new language comes in. Instead of talking about survival kits,
we're starting to talk about stability kits.
Instead of bug out bags, we're calling them get home bags.

(01:52):
See the difference? It's not marketing, it's mindset. Because when preparedness
sounds like life instead of loss, more people join in.
So if Monday was about words shaping worlds, today is about how those words reshape your own.
You're not just surviving, you're building a stable, confident, capable life.

(02:17):
And that is something worth sharing.
So here's your challenge. Today, I want you to take a look at one of your preparedness.
Plans or kits and reframe it.
Instead of asking, will this keep me alive? ask, will this help me live well?
Swap out one word in your plan or vocabulary that pushes you towards stability instead of survival.

(02:40):
Share that mindset with your family, especially your kids.
All right, when we chat tomorrow, we'll talk about connection.
Why the strongest kind of preparedness doesn't come from isolation,
but from belonging to something bigger than yourself.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
