A burst washer hose before Thanksgiving shows it best: the power of a team isn’t in avoiding crisis—it’s in recovering together. In today’s AmCon Daily Brief, Thom shares how teamwork turns a mess into momentum and why no family should face preparedness alone.

(00:17):
Okay, I want you to picture this. It's the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
The Johnson family's looking forward to a quiet evening.
Turkey in the freezer, guests arriving in a few days when they hear the sound.
It was a sharp pop from the laundry room, and within seconds,
water is pouring out from under the door, across the floor, soaking the rugs,

(00:39):
creeping toward the hallway.
The washing machine speeder line has burst and before they can find the shutoff
valve, hundreds of gallons of water have already covered the floor.
Now, let's look at this in a couple of ways. In scenario one, no team.
The Johnsons scramble to move furniture, toss towels, but the water just keeps

(00:59):
coming. Breakers trip, grandma's in tears.
They finally find the shutoff, but the damage is done. The floors are ruined,
baseboards are warped, and a flooded kitchen.
No plumbers coming out until Monday, and they have no idea what the insurance
is going to cover. But the next few days are going to be chaos.
Thanksgiving is off.

(01:21):
Or scenario two, this one with a team.
Let's say the same hose breaks, same water covers the floor,
but this time Daniel calls his neighbor Chris from the neighborhood team.
Chris grabs a shop vac and heads over while his wife calls a plumber they trust.
And updates the neighborhood text thread.

(01:41):
Another teammate brings a dehumidifier and some extra fans and some towels.
Within an hour or so, the water's under control. By the next day, the house is drying out.
The Johnsons are back on track for Thanksgiving dinner.
That's the difference a team can make. Same problem, different outcome.
Preparedness isn't about avoiding every problem. It's also about reducing the cost of recovery.

(02:05):
A good team divides your burden and multiplies your ability to bounce back.
It's why ReadyCore puts so much emphasis on neighborhood teams.
When one family struggles, the others step in, close the gap.
Nobody has to face their crisis alone.
And here's the deeper lesson. Teamwork doesn't just make response faster.
It makes recovery human.

(02:27):
When help shows up as a friend instead of a stranger, crisis turns into connection.
And that connection is what makes communities truly resilient.
So today I want you to take a minute and think about one everyday disaster that
your family could face, whether it's a burst pipe or a flat tire,

(02:47):
power goes out and identify who in your team could help and who you could help in return.
Then just reach out. Real readiness begins with real relationships.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
