(00:00):
I get a lot of questions here at Checkup Pro Radio about Home Improvement.
Here's one that's crossed my desk recently.
Why do I need to balance my garage door?
And now you're probably wondering what does balancing my garage door mean we're gonna find out soon because I've asked Alex Dalton to join me here on the program from Eco Garage Door service.
He is an expert in garage doors.

(00:22):
Alex,
how are you?
I'm doing really good here today,
Joe.
How are you doing?
Fantastic,
my friend.
Ok.
So here's the question of the day.
You're the guy to answer this.
Why do I need to balance my garage door first off?
What does it mean to balance and then why do we need to balance it?
Yeah,
I mean,
balancing your door is just making sure that one giant counterbalance system,

(00:44):
um,
the springs above your door that are attached to the cables on the side for making sure your door is uh level and opening straight and correctly and making sure that your springs set the proper amount of tension on there to lift the weight of that door.
A well balanced store.
You should be able to open up halfway and it should just sit there and not come crashing down or not lift itself up.

(01:06):
Uh,
it's important,
uh,
because the job of an opener is to open 5 to £10.
Um,
which is what the balance do should weigh.
Uh,
and if you are,
if the opener is overworking that or,
or lifting more weight than it should,
it can actually damage the opener itself.
Um,
it could damage properties such as vehicles,

(01:28):
cars,
if that door does come crashing down,
if it's not balanced correctly,
if it's not a level balanced store,
um,
it could open crooked and allowing a roller to come out.
There's a lot of,
a lot of things that could happen with an unbalanced store and it's definitely an important thing to take care of.
Yeah,
I know something about garage doors and what I don't know,

(01:48):
which is most of it.
I,
I ask people like Alex to help me out with,
but you know,
your garage door is balanced.
If you release it from the garage door opener and you can lift it up or put it down with just one finger,
you shouldn't have to struggle with it.
Like Alex said,

(02:08):
it's just a few pounds that,
that opener wants to move.
If your garage door spring breaks,
you will find out it's not balanced and you will also find out your garage door opener will not open it.
As a matter of fact,
you and your neighbor may not be able to open it by hand.
So it,
it's important it's balanced because everything's gonna last a whole lot longer.
Alex.
Thank you.

(02:29):
Thank you.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
