Quotes:
I want to begin with a poem from the movie Antwone Fisher that resonates with many who have experienced abuse:
"Who will cry for the little boy?
Lost and all alone.
Who will cry for the little boy?
Abandoned without his own?
Who will cry for the little boy?
He cried himself to sleep.
Who will cry for the little boy?
He never had for keeps."
Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, a leading trauma expert, states: "The body keeps the score: If the trauma memory isn't processed, it continues to play out in the body."
Psychologist Dr. Peter Levine reminds us: "Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence."
Dr. Maya Angelou, a survivor herself, beautifully stated: "You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."
