(00:01):
Here at the radio show,
we get questions all the time about Home improvement.
Of course,
it's a home improvement radio program.
And today we have a question that came in from a listener about garage doors and this one is,
what do I do when my garage door is stuck in the up position?
And this happens quite a bit.
So I dialed up one of my friends who's in the garage door business.

(00:23):
Cody Johnson from garage door doctor in Houston,
Texas to help me answer this question.
Hey,
Cody,
how are you?
I'm doing great.
Thank you for the opportunity to be here.
Yeah,
it's great to have you here.
You've seen this over and over again,
right?
The garage door gets stuck in the up position.
What's happening here?
Well,
it can be multiple things.
We see it every single day.
Um The most common way is something's in front of the sensors,

(00:47):
they're crooked,
the kiddos kicked it or hit it with a bike,
you're blowing out or sweeping the garage and you hit the little photo sensors and one's going crooked.
So the number one thing to check would be to check the alignment of the photo sensors and perhaps that's why it's stuck.
Um You know,
other than that,
it could be that the door is crooked.
If the door is crooked,
you need to go ahead and call in and we need to go ahead and get out there and get it serviced and get it fixed up for you immediately.

(01:13):
Um And,
and so it's usually one of those two things um is what we normally see.
Would it be fair to say that the homeowner can try to adjust the sensors on their own and if they can remedy it,
then they fixed it because to your point,
maybe one of the kids hit it,
maybe when you're sweeping the garage out the broom,

(01:34):
hit it and those need to line up to operate correctly.
But beyond that,
would you agree that the homeowner shouldn't be messing with a crooked door?
Oh,
yeah.
If the door's crooked,
don't touch it.
You're starting to mess with the cables,
starting to mess with the spring tension,
you probably already have one or two rollers out.
If you try to force that door down,

(01:54):
it's gonna end up either on you,
on your kids or on the car.
So,
and we,
we see this.
So yeah,
so first thing to check if the door seems,
level,
seems straight and,
and you know,
sensors,
if they're crooked,
you can line that up.
There's no problems try it.
It says it in your open manual So,
but if the door is,
is if you think when you're hitting it,

(02:14):
it's actually getting stuck and you can kind of see the door bending or going crooked at that point,
get your hands off of it,
probably go ahead and unplug the opener.
So that way when the wife comes home,
she doesn't accidentally hit the button and then give us a call.
We,
we normally leave urgent spots open every day.
We can generally get out there within a couple hours.
So just give us a call and we'll get out there and get your house secure.

(02:37):
I have to agree with you and I won't get into details here,
but there are accidents every day happening to homeowners with their garage doors.
And honestly,
a lot of professional garage door service technicians have accidents too purely because they're constantly working in the garage on the garage door and something is bound to happen,

(02:58):
but they're more likely to take the precautions before something happens because they've been trained,
always hire a trained professional when it comes to something like this.
There are some things you can mess around with on your property.
If you,
you know,
if your driveway is dirty,
try to pressure washer,
you're probably not going to destroy the concrete.
Probably not when it comes to air conditioning and garage doors and stuff.

(03:21):
Call a professional,
don't you agree?
Oh,
absolutely.
So,
it,
you know,
save your time,
save your hands.
Um,
we've had people severely hurt and lost fingers and,
and had to have stitches.
So,
um,
it's really not worth messing with.
This is what we do.
We're here to,
to serve our community and you just give us a call and we'll get you fixed up.

(03:43):
Yeah.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
