(00:00):
Technology in our homes is really becoming popular.
A lot of us have devices in the house,
we just talk to it and the lights go on and the air conditioning goes off and all that kind of stuff.
Well,
there's something for your garage door system.
I love calling it a garage door system because there's just a lot of moving parts that has technology in it,

(00:21):
but it's really not over our heads.
Well,
actually,
it kind of is because it's up in the garage door opener.
And what I'm talking about is the my Q system.
And I've asked my friend Cody Johnson from garage door doctor to join me here on the program today to talk about my Q and how it can help your life today.
Hey,
Cody.
Hey Joe.

(00:42):
Thanks for having me.
Yeah.
So it just came to me.
It is over our heads because it's literally in the garage in the garage door opener system,
how my Q operates,
right?
Oh,
yeah,
it's actually called an overhead door.
So back in the old days,
so now we call the garage door.
So,
absolutely.
So why do you tell everybody out there how Mike Hugh can change their lives,

(01:05):
how it can make their lives easier.
Oh,
yeah.
So my Q is pretty awesome.
So,
um,
on our opener systems,
either a ceiling hanging or a,
or a side mount.
That way you can have a gym in your garage if you want.
Um,
so you can get it.
It's integrated with the wi-fi chip that ties into your,
your internet at the house and you can download a free app and you can open and close the garage door from anywhere in the world.

(01:30):
As long as you have internet,
wherever you're at,
you can open and close that garage door.
So if your neighbor needs to come over and borrow your lawn mower and you know,
you're at work,
all they gotta do is call you and you just pop open your phone,
you hit a button on your phone and it,
and it'll open the garage door for them.
Uh,
if your kids come home from school,
you can get notifications and alerts.

(01:51):
That'll tell you when your door went up,
when your door went down.
Um,
you can make it automatically close if the door's been open for say 30 minutes,
if it's been open for 30 minutes or longer,
close the door automatically,
you can do that through the app.
If you have an airbnb and,
and,
and the,
and the people renting the house for two every two or three days,

(02:12):
they keep taking your remote control that you let them have,
you can just give them a guest pass.
There's a virtual pass that you can give to anybody you want.
It could be a one time deal.
It can be for the rest of their life.
Whatever you prefer,
there's ways to do the settings on that.
So,
so if I have a house sitter come over and not going out of town and they're coming to walk the dog or something,

(02:33):
I can just send them a my,
send them an invitation through my cue.
They download the app,
they can open and close the garage door,
either a certain amount of times or days or else I can just delete them if I don't like them or trust them.
So,
but it's,
it's pretty awesome.
Um Joe,
so there's something new though.
Ok.
So,
so Lift Master who,

(02:53):
who makes My Q?
Um They have a what they call a secure view opener.
Ok.
So it's got a camera,
an HD camera that has a two way microphone in it.
So,
so now you can actually see Amazon delivering packages in your garage.
Ok.
So you can see,
you can make sure they're not stealing from you when your kids get home from the bus or from school,

(03:15):
you actually can see see them coming in.
Um It's a,
there's a minor if you just want the live streaming,
that's part of the deal.
Nothing extra.
If you want to have recordings,
there's a small little monthly fee that you can pay if you want to have the recordings on that.
And they're about to come out with a video keypad on the outside.
So the,
the technology is here in,

(03:36):
if you have what we,
what we used to say,
a dumb opener now,
I guess now they're called a smart opener,
right?
So if you have a dumb opener that you can't open and close from your cell phone,
I'd really look into upgrading that these things are much quieter and smoother and safer,
more energy efficient than,
than the old ones anyway.
So there's multiple reasons to consider the my Q system.

(03:57):
If you've got a front door,
doorbell camera,
why wouldn't you have a garage door camera?
And porch pirates are a big deal and a porch pirate is someone that comes onto your property and steals your packages usually off your porch.
Hence the porch pirate.
But if,

(04:18):
if the delivery guy or gal can put it securely in your garage and everything's recorded,
right?
So you can see everything,
you know what's going on.
And of course,
Amazon's not gonna rip you off.
Um,
and they only have so much time from what I understand right,
to get in and out when they do that.
So they're just dropping off the box and then leaving.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah,

(04:39):
they,
yeah,
they got a difficult job.
They get blamed for everything.
Right.
They cannot leave unless that garage door is down.
They have to take a picture of it and they can't even leave.
So we've had a few times where let's say uh the,
the,
the door goes crooked or the sensors are blocked or something,
they're not there to fix it.
They,
all they do is hit a button when they're within like 50 ft of your house.

(05:02):
They hit a button and the door opens,
they slide their package in,
they hit a button to close if it doesn't close.
Amazon immediately calls somebody like us that and we come out as an urgent call and get that door down for them and that,
that Amazon delivery guy cannot leave.
They're,
they're extra background check.
Um because because Amazon knows the concerns on this,

(05:23):
but with the secure view camera,
you can see exactly what's going on,
you can communicate with them.
You know,
we,
we've not had any bad instances of,
of anything at all so far.
And,
and we're in Houston,
one of the big metro areas here.
So it's a fantastic product to learn more about my Q in the description of this podcast is all of Cody's information.

(05:45):
Plus you can call Cody,
talk to him on the phone or one of his other great technicians and advisors and they'll help you out.
It's not that expensive to upgrade your garage door opener to A I Q system.
And I think it makes a lot of sense if we already have all this technology throughout our home.
All the automation you may as well bring it to your garage door because a lot of us use the garage door as the front entrance to our home every day.

(06:10):
And we put our cars in there,
we use it for storage,
the kids are playing in there and so it just makes a lot of sense.
Agreed.
Agreed.
Yeah.
Thanks Cody.
I appreciate it,
my friend.
Thank you Joe.
