Every prolonged crying in a baby does not mean that the baby has colic. Parents tend to over diagnose and overtreat colic in their babies and infants. A true colic (abdominal discomfort) is a benign condition that resolves when the baby is about three months old. Do not assume that prolonged crying in infants is always colic. Parents should always check and examine their babies when crying so as not to miss life-threatening situations.
