(00:01):
We spend a lot of time sleeping,
but we also spend a lot of time on the toilet.
It's just a reality.
It's a great invention.
Years ago,
people would have to,
I guess,
lean up against a tree.
All right.
So now we've got these great pieces of China that we call toilets or commodes.
And I've asked a toilet expert.
He's a plumbing expert.

(00:22):
Rodney Jessen to join me from out today to talk about it.
Rodney.
How are you doing,
buddy?
Oh,
I'm so excited,
Joe.
We finally got to the point.
Now we're getting down to brass tacks.
We're talking about toilets.
There's nothing more plumber talk and toilets.
Exactly.
And a lot of people I don't think talk about toilets with their family or their neighbors or their friends.

(00:43):
It's just one of those things that we have in the bathroom.
And,
um,
everyone knows that everybody needs a toilet,
but not all toilets are created equal.
And there's a lot of choices today.
So I'm gonna ask you a question and it's kind of straightforward,
I think,
but I think you may have a number of answers.

(01:04):
And the question is,
is what makes a quality toilet,
isn't it different for everybody?
It as a,
it's a different for everybody.
And I think the number one thing since we spend some time on the commode,
the toilet is comfort.
I can use myself as an example.
I'm in the industry and I,
I got a new home last year and I was not happy with the toilets and I found one I like.

(01:28):
And you know,
what does that comprise of?
Well,
the height,
the length,
the width,
uh you know what fits?
Well,
I,
I found one as a matter of fact,
I,
I like it better than any toilet I've ever used.
And that really,
really sold me on.
It was when I went to the other bathroom and I went back to a normal toilet.

(01:49):
It was uh it was a shorter experience.
It wasn't as comfortable.
So I had to go put its twin in the other bathroom and uh there's a lot of options we can get into.
But uh basically I think fit is number one,
performance would be number two and then number three convenience options.

(02:11):
Like when I drop my lid it doesn't fall down.
It's slow close.
So I don't hear the bang.
Some people call it the throne.
So it's where the,
the king and the queen sit,
the uh you know,
mom and pop.
Um,
but everyone's gonna sit on a toilet at some point and it's important to have comfort and I'm not gonna get into details,

(02:36):
but also some professionals will say there's a certain position for proper evacuation of waste.
Ok.
So sometimes depending upon how you're built,
long legs,
short legs,
how old you are and so forth,
you may want to have a different type of toilet.
Now,

(02:56):
as we get older,
it's convenient to have one that sits up higher because we know when our butt is below our knees,
like when we're sitting on a couch,
it's harder to get up.
We're not 16 years old anymore.
So for some people,
elderly people,
not only do,
they need a grab bar,
but they also should have a toilet that sits up higher.
Isn't that true?

(03:17):
Absolutely.
And that's in my case,
you know,
and there's a,
there's a number of ways that folks can measure with a tape measure and so forth and then,
uh,
they make them.
It's,
I was amazed when I shop for myself.
You know,
I've done a lot for my co,
I view my house as the test place for my customers.
So I,
I pretend I'm the customer and II,
I guess I did a good job for myself,

(03:39):
but everybody's gonna be a little different.
And then,
you know,
the next thing we start to talk about options,
you know,
there are,
there are toilets that have a pad on the wall.
You can adjust the water temperature as,
as it self cleans,
uh,
a person,
uh,
everything is automatic.
It doesn't have even a,
a bowl,
uh not a bowl,

(04:00):
a,
a water closet.
That thing we're familiar with that.
Our back rests on,
it's stylish,
it's beautiful and of course,
it's expensive and then we can work down from there.
Uh And of course,
a lot of folks uh environment,
environmentally sensitive people are like the two button toilet plus little flush and you know,

(04:20):
there's,
and there's a host of other options in between.
So between the sizing the performance,
the options and all the way to the luxury model,
even ones that play music and have lighting,
there's really uh the imagination is a person's only limit.
They've come a long way.

(04:41):
Ok.
So when you're talking toilets and need to know more about toilets,
you need to actually contact my good friend Rodney Jessen.
And out today he will help you out with that.
All of his contact information is located in the description of this podcast,
Rodney.
As always.
Thank you so much,
my friend.
Thanks a lot.
