הדיאלוג הפתוח, שפותח בפינלנד בשנות ה-90, משנה את כללי המשחק: במקום שהמטופל יגיע לטיפול בחדר סגור, הצוות מגיע אליו – הביתה – ונפגש עם הרשת החברתית שלו לשיחה פתוחה, שוויונית ורב-קולית. סיוון מספרת איך השיטה הזו מצליחה לצמצם אשפוזים חוזרים ב-50% ואשפוזים ארוכים ב-70%, ואיך היא הופכת את מערכת היחסים בין מטפל למטופל לשותפות אמיתית.
