(00:09):
All right, we're going innow with Miss Daybreak.
Hey!
you, it's Miss Daybreak, still Miss Daybreak.
It's me!
I'm still
You're the first and only Miss Daybreak.
Have you, have you had any challengesfor the, for the Miss Daybreak title?
Oh no, I don't think anyone is goingto dare to take it away from me.

(00:30):
No, they
Yeah.
Yeah.
Miss Daybreak, regardless if it is, it is.
And if you want to know why it'spart of your identity, go check
out when we talked to you year ago.
It's been a year.
from a long time ago.
Becks, can you believe that?
It's been about a year now.

(00:52):
Yes, absolutely.
And, um, loved her back then.
Love her now.
She's doing amazingthings for the community.
We're going to dive into whatyou've been up to for the last year.
So let's start with the pageant.
Like
Well, tell us about the pageant last year.
Tell us about the experience.
Like, I know it's been a while, causeit was in March or something, right?
Oh yeah, and we're alreadygearing up for the next one.

(01:13):
Like, we're talking about gettingour headshot done, and rehearsing
for opening number, and everything.
Like, the second.
The first, last March when Iwas done, when I competed, I
was ready to sign up again.
It was like
I was
2024 ended
well, let's go.
and 2025, you were already in that mode.
So even though we're now in 2025,your patch is coming up in March.

(01:37):
And what do you think from lastyear's experience to this year?
Like, what are you, what are youlooking at now that you know,
and you've been there before?
What are you, what are youmost excited about really?
I mean,
I realized I was like, I wasreally focusing on what I was
going to wear and maybe not quite.
All the correct aspects thatI should be focusing on.

(01:59):
Um, the pageant, it's notfor scholarships or anything.
It's all fundraising efforts andcharity and we talk a lot about
service improving ourselves andladies keep coming back to the pageant
every year because of the community
just how awesome and amazing, likeI have ladies that are nice and

(02:21):
pretty And they want to be my friend.
the perfect win, win, win girl.
And they're like, nice to me.
Not like, not like old days inhigh school when you had like the.
You know, the
yeah,
the click.
I saw a picture.
not, it's like totally not, think there'sa lot of misconceptions with a pageant,

(02:46):
because it's definitely not, I did notwin, not even close, not even an honorable
mention, I did go out there with mygarbage can Stanley, for my costume,
that was supposed to represent Utah,
love.
it needs work, needs work.
You had that on socialmedia somewhere, I believe.
I
man, I sure do.

(03:06):
I'm trying to decide if that'swhat I'm gonna do again because
you do get prizes like sponsors andstuff will put together baskets.
Um, but like I thought my garbagecan Stanley was gonna go somewhere.
I know!
What a fun idea!
So I have to
wheels.
ask, because you know I follow you andI'm very active on on your social media

(03:28):
page, but I like absolutely love to seelike the latest of what you're doing.
I do have to ask, was that a sneakpeek of what the gown could be this
last week where we were voting?
Yes.
saw a picture.
Woo!
gowns I'm trying to decidebetween and I know like the
focus isn't necessarily on like,
Yes,
um, the gown that I picked wasactually like a last second grab.

(03:55):
And I was like, almost left it behind.
It was Right!
what matters.
Yeah.
If our listeners are listening rightnow, Amanda, how do they jump on
your social media and follow you?
follow me at notsogenius onInstagram, and that's kind of
how you can find me everywhere.

(04:18):
Um, I also have my podcast, Innerworkingsof the Not So Genius Mind, getting
ready to ramp that up again.
Uh,
you're in the actual, you're in the set right now.
That's where you take.
is me.
Yeah.
I like this place here.
Yeah.
going to say, man, I'm sorry.
my degrees up there.
Uh, ooh, yeah, look how fancy I am!

(04:42):
Um, I already forgot what I was gonna say.
Oh, my podcast.
Yeah, some of the other my sashsisters we call each other Um,
they're gonna interview on my podcast.
We're getting ready to ramp thatup again but it's been like this
whole year has just been full ofhealing and Taking care of myself
like really taking care of myself.
Not just My pageant platformphrases, you know, um, I've been

(05:08):
doing all kinds of therapies.
I've been looking at my health.
I got diagnosed with liver diseaseand then I took care of that.
And then all of a sudden I got kidneystones because I went through anyway.
So just like really focusing onI need so I can heal all the way.
And part of that included quitting my job.
I'm not, I am not teachingright now, which is crazy.

(05:29):
That's wild.
I mean, you're always teaching.
I mean, y'all never,you're never not a teacher.
You're always teaching, butthat's incredible that you've
been able to do that now.
So you got extra time now and you'vebeen given back to the community
last year's Miss Utah pageant.
Like, what are you doing now, as far asWith your time and community efforts.

(05:54):
I'm focusing on service and what Ican do for others because I've been
at really low, low, low points in mylife where I really needed some help I
didn't have anybody there to help me.
Um, I kind of had to figureit all out on my own.
And so.

(06:16):
When I notice somebody goingthrough something, instead of
being like too bad, so sad, I wantto say, what can we do to help?
Because,
Oh, sorry.
No, go ahead.
I was gonna say, we're just,we're not totally helpless in some
situations, like we believe we are.
And I think sometimes we hidethings are hard, and we don't want

(06:39):
people to see that we're struggling.
And, causes an awful cycle thatis hard to get out of, right?
Um, and I think, like, beingvulnerable and asking for help
offering help where I can is just, that's been my focus this year.

(07:00):
Especially, you know, we're into January.
We just kind of went through, I knowChristmas and the holidays and all of
that season is, is so beautiful andthere's a lot to celebrate, but it's a
very difficult time for a lot of people.
So I love that you're hitting that, thatyou hit that last year for yourself,
but also that you are speaking tothat on a platform, you know, that

(07:23):
you have and you're showing it.
It's not just your words.
You're actually movingforward with your actions.
And I just really want tocommend you for doing that with
the platform that you're on.
And so, thank you.
Thank you for, you know, making awareness part of that.
I want to jump into a little bit.
We've got, um, one specificcharity that we want to talk about

(07:44):
and that's Hearts Knit Together.
Yes.
that?
So Hearts Knit Together is a non profitand they collect money, like monetary
donations, but they also collect itemsfor people that are in conflict, so
survivors of abuse, or war, or refugees.

(08:05):
Um, actually found themthrough my chiropractor office.
Creek Chiropractic.
They're great.
I'm actually gonna gosee them later today.
Um, they were collecting donations andI looked up the charity and the message
just kind of hit home to me and I emailedApril and we're gonna tour the facility

(08:28):
and the intention here is to hopefully setup some fundraising efforts to help them
um The money would go towards like payingrent and collecting donations and things
that maybe we can't collect normally, um,
What is the message?
What is that message?
Because you mentioned it.

(08:49):
Let's let people know what the messageis and what they're giving to, you know.
oh, okay, hold on.
I'm going to go back.
I'm in there.
I'm clicking around on theirwebsite because I left.

(09:31):

Like that's, that's, that's.
Yeah.
yeah, well, and it's fun because theyhave some things that you can craft
and create, um, to donate along withYou know, goods and other things.
But I'm hoping, fingers crossed, myplan is to do a couple craft nights

(09:52):
where we can get together and makethings for Hearts Knit Together, and
then in February, for my birthday, Iwould love to do a fundraiser for them.

whatever you called them a minute ago

yeah,
get them out there.
I mean,

it'll be wild, but if you can'tmake it out to the fundraiser,
you can go to heartsknittogether.
and you can find the donate tab.

(10:57):
That's right.
Go there.
They've actually got Amazonwishlist, Walmart wishlist.
You can go to their official Facebookpage from there and they update
that thing weekly with what theyneed, what they're looking for, or

org she didn't ask us to do that.
I hope she doesn't get blown up orI hope she does really like, you

(11:19):

I don't think she'd be upset thatwe gave her email address out
Oh.
for
No, well, and especially with victimsin crisis, you don't ask for help.
nah,
right?
nah, nah.
I mean, and this is a reallycool resource that I didn't even
realize existed until this holiday.
So, I would real I love their mission.

(11:40):
I want to give them support.
They donate all of their things to, like,Domestic violence shelters and women's
shelters and different places like that.
So, I just think need some love.
