Wenn man ihr gedenkt, gedenkt man einer ungarischen Königstochter, 1207 geboren. Als Prinzessin schien es ihr in ihrem äusseren Leben an nichts zu mangeln, doch ihr, die sie schon im Alter von 14 Jahren mit dem Landgrafen Ludwig IV. von Thüringen verheiratet wurde, fehlte offensichtlich das Wesentliche: für Menschen da sein zu können, ihnen zu helfen, für sie zu sorgen. Im Alter von nur 24 Jahren starb Elisabeth am 17. November 1231 und wurde zwei Tage später in der Kapelle des Franziskushospitals bestattet.
