(00:00):
what are your gifts?
(00:01):
What have you always been drawn to?
It's really starts with thatself-awareness because that's
what's going to carry you throughwhen that client asks for a refund
or you get rejected repeatedly.
What do you do in those hard times?
Or you don't have asupportive spouse or family.
It's really that mindset piece.
(00:38):
Welcome back to Super EntrepreneursPodcast, the show where we dive into the
minds of high performing entrepreneurs, innovators, and world class leaders.
If you're someone who's always lookingto grow, push limits, think and do
bigger, this is where you wanna be.
Today we have with us Marta Spirk.
(01:03):
Marta was born and raised in Brazil.
She is also the host of Empowered WomenPodcasts Woman Podcast, TEDx speaker, a
speaking coach, a professional singer, and the author of The Empowered Woman,
the Ultimate Roadmap to Business Success.
(01:25):
Marta, it's a pleasureto have you here and now.
Thank you for coming on our show.
My pleasure.
You came at a very young age at, Ibelieve around 14, that multiculturalism?
Does that help you in business?
So I didn't come when I was 14.
I started teaching English inBrazil when I was 14, so Okay.
I'm dreaming
(01:47):
of it already.
Yeah.
But I didn't come, actually23, that's when I got married.
Oh, okay.
My husband and I moved.
But yeah, always passionate about thelanguage and the culture for sure.
Yeah.
So how does that empower youto help women, especially
having that diverse background?
(02:07):
Yeah, I think I, I always say that ifI had, I stayed in Brazil, I probably
wouldn't be doing what I am doingright now or even accomplishing, yeah.
I have done, it took mestepping out of my comfort zone.
And what I had down there, theconnections, the community with my family
and kind of starting from scratch, to bedoing what I'm doing and for many people
(02:27):
they already have the connections andthey're not taking advantage of that.
So I think my story of saying,Hey, I'm not even from here.
English is not even my firstlanguage and I'm doing this.
You can do it too.
Yeah, exactly.
When you put yourself out there, inreality, that's what you're doing.
You're just telling them that,Hey, listen, I'm doing it.
There's no difference.
You can do it as well.
(02:48):
It just needs that mindset.
It just needs that inspirationto actually take action.
And not, I. Hold yourself back.
So that's why it's so exciting to haveyou on the show and for you to even go
on other shows to spread this message.
'cause more and more people will see you.
Even the ones that are holdingback, obviously they're gonna want
to go ahead and do something withthis vision they may hold, yeah.
(03:11):
You're a mom, triplets.
Yes.
And and you're entrepreneur and you'rehelping other people get what they want.
That's a big task, is thereanything challenging that happens
with that type of dynamics?
Running a business and having thatresponsibility has that, provided
any kind of challenges that you face, maybe on a regular basis, that you
(03:36):
actually found a way to overcome?
Oh yeah.
Absolutely.
With being a parent, being a mom itcomes, the challenges come because
it's, finding a way to use yourtime and to set boundaries of when
you're gonna be working, when you'regonna be dedicating to family.
And I think for me, with having triplets.
It's a triple challenge becauseof them being the same age.
(03:58):
There's lots of thingsthat come along with that.
Now they're older, they're nine,so the challenges evolve and they
change, but they are still there.
I think in the beginning a lot of itwas I. While they were at home was
finding the time I actually started mybusiness when they were nine months old.
Oh.
And that was, wow.
That was one of the challengestoo, was conveying, yeah.
(04:21):
The importance for me of startingsomething new that was seemingly
unrelated to my former career inlanguages and what I had been doing
before, but I really felt the needto mentor, to encourage, to empower.
Yeah, exactly what you had said.
Helping people achieve what they want.
I think that's the main underly messagefor me, is I've always thought of myself
(04:42):
as the person that thinks Why not me?
And if I can instill that in peopleso that they will pursue their gifts
and their dreams, then I feel likeI've done my job in a pretty good job.
But I think the biggestchallenge is the time.
Time management.
Again, setting the boundaries of, I don't,and that's the biggest challenge with
(05:04):
being an entrepreneur, is that you canwork all the time if you so choose to.
And it's on your mind and it's what's thenext content I'm gonna create or who's
the next person I'm gonna network with?
And then.
Learning to operate from a spaceof abundance and not the FOMO of
I need to be at all the events.
I need to talk to all of the people andbeing like, no, I will talk to these
people.
No, and that is enough trust thatyou're doing enough and that you
(05:27):
will get the results out of that.
But also being strategic, we can't just.
Hope, wish, and pray we gotta take action.
So it's finding thatbalance and that's what I've
yeah.
Been
working on, throughout the lastalmost eight years of having
this coaching business is whereshould I focus my attention and
my time to get the most results?
(05:47):
And this is the ongoing work.
Yeah.
For us, I think.
Yeah.
And I want to just start by saying thatbeing a mother is probably one of the
most sacred and important roles anyonecould do, but the entrepreneurship is
something as the kids get older is greatto start doing as a. Even as a side
(06:08):
hustle in the beginning and turn itinto something because kids do grow up.
And that's those skills that yougain, the patience that you gain
bringing developing children.
Yes.
And and that relationship, that skill is very important I
feel, especially in coaching.
And I think that's why femalecoaches are much better.
(06:30):
In my book, I just.
I just from experience and whatI've looked in is that I don't know.
I just find that there's that motherlytouch to it when you're coaching and it
makes a difference in that communicationwith your students or your clients, that
allows them to open up more, more easily.
(06:54):
Yeah, definitely.
I think the skillsdefinitely are transferable.
And they do overlap.
I always say, if you really wannaknow what you're made of, get married,
have kids, start a business, you're
good.
Careful mirrors.
Yeah.
Hold up, held up in front ofyou, showing you your weaknesses.
The things you get to work on.
Yeah.
And FOMO is a real.
(07:15):
Thing it's an issue.
I used to suffer with it a lot whenI was possessed by my ego and, I was
like, oh, I had, I have to go the right.
I'm gonna miss out.
I gotta do this.
And I was just hustling.
I was just going everything, network, this and that.
And I was 14, 16 hours a day.
Oh geez.
And I was working, but then finallywhen everything fell apart, and
(07:38):
that's when I realized that, waita minute, I was doing all that.
Nothing really happened.
Yeah.
I was destroying my health.
I was destroying my mood, therelationships, what's going on.
So that shift from outside to insidechanged everything, because when you
create that calmness, then now youlook at the world completely different.
(07:59):
Yeah.
You start feeling like, oh, I'mnot gonna miss out if I miss this.
Yes, there's gonna be more.
If you zoom out on your life, it's, it.
The whole, everything ishappening for you Exactly.
At the end of the day inthe grand scheme of things,
yeah, a hundred percent.
It's, yeah.
So the empowered woman,
can you share any specific strategyentrepreneurs, especially women
(08:21):
entrepreneurs could potentiallyutilize starting today?
Yeah, so what I share.
In my book actually goes hand inhand with what you were just saying.
It's that inner process.
Many people are like, gimme the tools, gimme the steps, and I'll go, I'll
start calling and I'll start posting andI'll, and you gotta do all those things.
Don't get me wrong.
Yes
(08:41):
but what
energy.
But yeah.
With what energy many times.
Yeah.
We may not even have the motivationor the strength to carry through with
those activities for not working onthe way we see ourselves and our self.
Yeah.
And our So true
self.
And it starts with that self-awareness.
And that's what I Yes.
Start with in the book.
I say that's the foundationfor business building.
(09:03):
And many people may think, get your email list together.
Sure.
But before.
Yeah,
what are your gifts?
What have you always been drawn to?
It's really starts with thatself-awareness because that's
what's going to carry you throughwhen that client asks for a refund
or you get rejected repeatedly.
What do you do in those hard times?
(09:24):
Or you don't have asupportive spouse or family.
It's really that mindset piece.
And it starts self awareness.
I also talk about selfempowerment, meaning.
Paying attention to thethings that have gone well.
We usually tend to focus on allthe negative comments, right?
The things that didn't work andhow awful of a person you are.
(09:45):
Instead, what has gone well?
What did you accomplish?
And sometimes not even business related.
Maybe it's something that you accomplishedin your family or in your education.
Reminding yourself ofpositive things is very key.
And we'll encourage you tothen move forward and think,
what, where do I wanna go then?
What do I wanna do?
But from a place of just what youwere saying, the energy of I know who
(10:08):
I am, I know I can do hard things.
So now I will set out and move forward.
Yeah.
There's such great informationthere that a lot of people miss out.
Especially get it wrong about mindset, because so many people out there
speaking about mindset and evenpeople that haven't gone through any
(10:32):
transformation, they're also speakingabout it, and I was one of them.
Back in 2018, I was posting positivecodes and I was posting all this stuff
and I was like, yeah, I'm positive dude.
I have a great mindset, but it was a messInternally, especially in a subconscious
level, that's if you don't make thesubconscious conscious and you don't know
what's happening, it's all automatic.
(10:53):
You don't realize until youbecome self-aware and you start
noticing these things that holy.
That's what I'm doing.
Especially when you elevateyour internal world.
You start noticing it whenyou become more self-aware.
Yeah.
You start noticing all thesethings in you initially.
You ignore it, you it's tough, right?
Being self-aware or findingout these things it's not easy.
(11:13):
But when you start doing it with playingwith it and you start discovering
these things and you start seeing.
Connecting the dots, how they'reholding you back and you start
understanding how you can replace them.
There's, 'cause there's, it's like a code.
You can just replace the code.
Not that simple, obviously, butyou still need to work on it.
But that's the process and you change itand all of a sudden there's a new world.
(11:36):
The perception changes about thatthing, so what you're seeing here
is crucial for entrepreneurs tounderstand that what we're talking
about when you talk about mindset.
It's not just positive thinking.
It is, I'm sorry.
It's so much more deeperand it never ends.
It never ends.
I thought every time I would go through atransformation, it's, oh, yes, I made it.
(11:59):
You go, yeah, and then I would keepworking on a daily basis because
that's my focus usually and then.
You go a little bit further andyou realize, oh my God, again, this
is it that, but it is infinite.
Once you go through a fewtransformations, it's infinite.
Yeah.
And that's a part of the shift toois accepting that it's embracing.
Yeah.
Never going to arrive.
That's why I'm alive.
(12:20):
I get to keep going and find these otherthings about myself and decide if they're
serving me or if they're not serving me.
And like you said, replace them.
Yeah.
With something else.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Martha, am I pronouncingher name correctly?
Marta.
Marta, yeah.
If you were to say that.
Marta.
Marta,
that's
it, right?
Marta?
Woohoo.
Got it.
(12:41):
Martha.
Okay.
Martha.
Self love you speak about.
And that's so special to me.
Excuse me,
sorry.
So self love is very important to me and.
When I started getting intothat expression of having
that relationship with self.
(13:02):
And that only happens when youstart looking, becoming self-aware.
Yeah.
When you start developing that love, I. Itautomatically shifts to start seeing that
love in everything else and everyone else.
Except, obviously if there's somebodythat you're dealing with that's
very difficult you get derailed.
It's obvious, other peoplecan have an effect on you.
(13:23):
Yeah.
But overall.
It amplifies in time.
If you zoom out, you just look, youstart feeling that love and that love
starts coming out in other people.
And I have, I'm part of somecommunities, some very vibrant
community engaged communities.
But you'll notice that there's this.
Tension with others.
And this tension, I feel, comesfrom the fact of not having
(13:48):
that self enough self-love.
Yeah.
Because you have enough self-love.
It creates empathy and understandingfor a lot other people.
So can you share some practical exerciseexercises or habits that entrepreneurs
business owners can incorporateimmediately when watching this episode?
Yeah.
(14:08):
Just speaking, backing on whatyou said about, you find this
tension, and I think this tensionis actually a result of resentment.
'cause we're wanting to receive thatlove from people, like demanding.
I'm entitled to this.
Why aren't you recognizing me?
And the reason that is, is 'cause youdon't, you're not giving it to yourself.
So it's never gonna be enoughbecause it starts with you once
you start seeing yourself thatway, magically, almost people are.
(14:33):
Giving it to you, but it's'cause it doesn't matter.
Now it's bonus 'cause you'realready giving it to yourself.
So I think it really startswith that self-awareness.
You can't really love somebodyyou don't know with the
exceptions of babies or puppies.
We love them right away.
But anybody that you get to know.
More.
You guys like them more.
I think we've all experienced this.
(14:54):
There was a colleague or somebodywho, guys at first you're
like, Ugh, I don't think so.
I'm not, drawn to you.
And then you get to know them.
You start liking themand liking their quirks.
And even you start thinking thatthey're more physically appealing
than they were in the beginning.
'cause you start really fallingin love with that person.
Guess what?
It changes.
This can happen with you.
(15:15):
So taking that time slow down, like what you were saying, to slow
down and think, Hey, who am I?
What are the things that light me up?
Why am I this way?
How is this different fromsomebody else in my life?
Or how is it similar fromsomebody else in my life?
I think that's one of the practicesagain, is I'm a total geek for
(15:35):
assessments and evaluation.
So I've done all of them like.
The Enneagram disc, all of theseMyers-Briggs, I think they can really
give you some good insight intowho you are and that it's a good
thing that you're this way, right?
What, when I first started mybusiness, I was like, I have triplets.
Why am I doing this?
'cause I have people in mylife asking me this as well.
(15:57):
And then I said, yeah.
Second guessing and questioning myself, why do I have this drive and this need?
It turns out this isbuilt in my personality.
I am wired this way.
And some people are wired differentlyand that's why we help at each other.
We need,
Yeah.
This variety, so it starts there.
And like I said, the other stepreally is brag to yourself.
(16:18):
It's, it may be hard to brag toothers and say, celebrate with me.
This is what I accomplish.
Which I think it's a good practice,especially for entrepreneurs.
Yeah.
That builds visibility.
But
I do that,
right?
Why not celebrate with me and
I don't concentrate on what theirfeedback is gonna be or what
they're gonna say or what they care.
Like I used to, yeah.
I wouldn't share to these guys.
We gonna say, what are they gonna think?
(16:40):
What if they don't celebrate me?
What if they don't like me?
They probably don't like me.
They're not gonna like this.
That kind of stuff.
It was draining, man.
Yeah.
The whole inner chatter
yeah.
Working on that really helps so that youdon't care how people thinking you move
forward, but then it's thinking about thethings that did go right again, I'm gonna,
part of the way we.
(17:00):
For us to help us protectourselves and grow.
But now that we're evolvedhumans and there are no lions.
Chasing us around.
Yeah.
We get to focus on the positive things.
What did I do today thatI'm really proud of?
What did I do last yearthat I'm really proud of?
In fact, that's a great exercisethat I do every end of year.
That's something people can, every month look at your finances.
(17:22):
Sure.
But then look at, whatdid I do this month?
Or the last 12 months.
It
was awesome.
Oh, I met with that person.
Oh, I went on that vacation.
Fill yourself up with positive thingsand especially that self-pride.
Yeah.
No, it's great.
I like the fact that
(17:42):
the way you start feelingabout each moment.
Shifts from being a means toan end for me, the next moment,
okay, what do I have to do?
Where do I have to go?
Who do I have to talk to?
Who do I have to call?
Instead of that, when we start.
(18:04):
Feeling that love, just love in general.
Yeah.
If you just have love in general in yourheart just having that feeling of love.
You vibrate with love.
And I know if the 2017 Shahid heardme say this, you probably slap me.
But yeah.
But this is the new me.
It's is something very powerful.
(18:24):
That words can't explain.
When you have love in your heart is justyou, it just puts jazz in your step.
And how you were talking about, that's how we were built.
One of the major things that I discoveredin my transformations is that I feel
that is not a hundred percent accurate.
Why?
Because.
(18:45):
You could change it.
Oh yeah.
Because it's a subconsciousprogramming, so if you don't
have love, you can insert love.
If you get fomo, you can justshift it, you can turn it around.
If you're not calling enough peoplein a day, you can turn that around.
You can make it very effortless.
Effortless action.
Yeah.
But just like a computer, looks like a software.
(19:06):
If you don't like something, you canreplace it to a process and that.
That realization when youdo one or two of those.
That's when you realize, oh myGod, I'm fricking powerful man.
I could do things with my life.
Yeah.
It can be like a switch andit's an understanding that you
have that power To change it.
Yeah.
You're in control.
(19:26):
Yeah, you are.
And you're, can you mentorme quickly on, on speaking?
You heard me speak so far.
You're the voice in your head musthave been criticizing here and there.
I would love to hear some feedbackor any kind of pointers to help me or
help anybody else in the audience tospeak better when they're doing videos,
when you're promoting their business.
(19:48):
Is there anything that you couldrecommend for me to improve?
I think you have great energy.
That's very important 'cause nobody wantsto watch or listen to somebody boring.
So
yeah,
I appreciate your animation, but alsothe tone of your voice and in terms of
being a guest, and you being a host, being interactive, asking questions,
(20:09):
following up on what people are sayingI think you're doing a great job.
So thanks for that.
Oh,
thank you so much, Martha.
Yes good.
I got it right.
Okay, good.
That's awesome.
That's awesome.
When you go for a TEDx talk you coulddo all this work, but when this moment
happens, when you're about to go onstage, for example, to speak, how
(20:31):
do you mentally prepare yourself?
How do you energize yourself to makesure that you present well, or do
you focus on that at all or you just.
Focus on your energy and you just goand you just be who Martha is, or some
kind of mental prep, some other kindof rituals before you go on a stage.
Can you share?
Yeah, of course.
And the same applies to when I'mabout to step on stage to perform.
(20:54):
Breath is really important, soyour adrenaline's gonna be super
high, your heart's gonna be beatensuper fast, and breath is one
of the best tools to get sent.
Yeah.
I love it and,
Work with your heartfeeds and all of that.
And in terms of the content, refreshing the content, depending
on how much time you have.
(21:15):
And I love doing some self coaching.
Again, with, I've done thisbefore, maybe not exactly, maybe
not this exact scenario, butI've done hard things before.
Especially when I'm about toperform, I tell myself i'm an artist.
I am empowered to do this
affirmation.
So auto suggestion.
Exactly.
So telling yourself those thingsgood really helps as well.
(21:38):
And just remember to have funbecause fear and excitement
Yeah.
Are pretty much the same thing, justuse, use the positive spin on it instead.
Yeah.
No, that's great.
Great advice.
So before we end this
Can you do your breathingritual and sing us something?
Oh my gosh, yes, definitely.
(21:59):
Woo.
Let's go.
Yeah.
So we're gonna watch youdo the actual breathing.
You're gonna mentor us on thebreathing and then you're gonna just
sing us a little bit of something.
Live.
Sounds good.
There are different types ofbreathing techniques, but I think
what doesn't fail is just taking abig, deep breath and taking your time
both in the inhale and the exhale.
(22:21):
And breathing through your belly.
That's very important.
Not just the chest.
You can actually get a lot more airin if you bri, if you fill your belly
first and then move up to the chest.
And that's good for singing too.
'cause you're supposed tobe using your diaphragm.
So let's do.
One more.
I'm doing it with you.
Go ahead.
I'm not gonna mute myself.
(22:44):
All right.
What should I sing?
One of my originals that'savailable everywhere.
Spotify, apple Music is called.
You Are Enough, and that'sa great affirmation.
You enough?
You've done enough.
That's just the beginning.
Great.
Amazing.
Thank you so much for that.
(23:04):
I know I put you on a spot, but you'rea mindset enthusiast, so you know how
important out of our comfort zone is.
So we're just practicingthat, but it was great.
Thank you so much for sharing that.
Thank you.
Thank you for putting me on the spot.
I always say, ask me tosing, ask me to speak.
I won't say no.
(23:26):
Yeah, I just like to putmyself in the fire, yes.
And just figured things out.
Just be resourceful.
It was great that youeven shared your voice.
Beautiful voice.
Even the content is good, the whole songwe recommend everyone to check it out.
She Martha already mentioned thison Spotify, so it's easy access.
Yep.
I just wanna say thank you, Martha, for coming on our show, sharing your
(23:49):
voice and empowering women out thereand helping them get out of their.
So I do from my heart.
Wish you all the best.
