(00:19):
Hello, everyone, and welcome to Superhero Slate, the show
where we run down the latestsuperhero entertainment news.
We love TV, movies and superheroes.
So let's talk it all out.My name is Chris.
And my name is Meg.
And this week we're taking a look at allthese juicy
CinemaCon reveals because,

(00:41):
nothing brings out the weirdest newsand the most unexpected announcements.
Like a good CinemaCon.
So we've got, Deadpooland Wolverine, we've got
Superman,we've got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Mike, we have not had a good sectionon them in a long time for you.
This one's even more upyour alley than usual.
we've got Transformers,we've got G.I. Joe.

(01:04):
I don't think even a Star Trekand more coming episode.
It's always a always interesting podcastwhen G.I.
Joe makes it into the, opening intro of our podcast.
So looking forwardto see what you have in the G.I.
Joe realm.
Speaking of G.I.
Joe, though, and bringing it back to action figures,
which, you know, always brings it backto our childhood, the Instagram algorithm

(01:27):
has started targeting me with, like, vintage 90s action figure boxes and,
I mean, obviously, we love retro.
We love nostalgia.
You were just talking yourself,
Chris, before we started recording abouthow you want to bathe your basement in.
The it with the floor.
In the warm orange wood of the 90s.
And, I'm starting to see, like, these, like Batman

(01:51):
and Spiderman, like, action figuresfrom the cartoon show back in the day.
And I saw I saw a Batman this morning.
It was called, Lightning Strike Batman.
And I forgot how coolthis action figure was because I had it.
And when I look at it,I can like, literally feel it.
It's like, it's like a plastic cape shellthat goes around Batman.

(02:12):
And then you can open it upand turn it into a glider.
It was so cool.
And it was it was so niceto, like, visually see it again.
It's like
seeing a picture of an old friendand it's just like, oh, I remember this.
And then not only like, do I see it,but like it's like my fingertips
can remember feeling it and opening upthe glider and it's just like,

(02:33):
oh, this is how they get our money.
This is why they're like, fine.
That's why they're taking those moldsout of like, storage.
And they're like remakingthose action figures
and putting them next to like thethe DVD section in the back at target.
they haven't made it to LightningStrike Batman yet, but if they did,
I'd probably be buying it. Yeah.
And a lot of companies are pickingup, cheap licenses to produce

(02:55):
some of those toys very similarto that, but, like, cheaper, if you will.
And that's not fun. But what I sent you,Mike, it's funny you mentioned this.
I was in target the other day, and Iliterally came across a Jurassic Park,
box set of Doctor in Malcolm,a Dilophosaurus and a baby Triceratops,
which are againre molds of the 93 toy releases they had,

(03:15):
which my brother and I had almostall of the Jurassic Park toys.
oh my.
God, I'm just I'm looking at this now.
the box art is just hilarious.
Like, could you imagine of thiswhat the movie actually was?
Yeah.So you have Jeff Goldblum getting in.
But Jeff Goldblum is in a glider
with a electric boltshooting gun at the Dilophosaurus.

(03:37):
I mean, I mean,it looks like he's shooting a rocket.
I don't know exactly what like.
And it looks like it could easily veer offand hit that baby,
dinosaur in the background. But it is funny.
It looks like it's been markedon clearance, like, two times in a row.
It it's unclear.
And this was like, as you can see,it's in the transformer section.
So someone I think has maybe hiddenthis and like moved it.

(03:59):
And then this finally found its way backto the front of all the toys,
because I've never seen these 93 classics, because had I seen them
I didn't buy this one.
But God help me, mymy finger was on that trigger to buy this.
instead I bought a transformer.
I actually bought a beast war for,
that was next to itI hadn't seen anywhere else.
So, you know, thank God for for Beast Warsreturning as well,

(04:20):
because I told you recentlyit was a beast Wars redid their,
the anniversary packaging had, like, that dinosaurs scale on that dinosaur.
I on the packaging.Do you remember those for the. Really?
Yeah.
So all of mine still have thosethat packaging, but it's absolutely crazy.
you know, 30 years on from the 90s,that they're redoing all these toys.
I've seen a lot of turtles, toys that you.

(04:40):
I think I sent you a photo of onewhere you pushed the pizza
through the turtle, and it comes outlike it's their stomach or whatever.
Oh, yeah. So far, so.
And I remember those from the 90s,so it's just wild.
I agree with you.
It is absolutely wild there.
Tag it on that nostalgia for all these.
Yeah.
It's like ait's like a tax on being a millennial.
All you want is the simpler times back.

(05:01):
I desperately want this very specificGundam wing figure, not model kit.
I'm not building anything.
I'm not painting anything. It's an action figure.
And it's like I found out there's, like,a higher end,
like, action figure seriescalled, like, the Robot Spirits.
And it's this black Aries action figure.
and it's so cool,

(05:21):
but I cannot I cannot get myselfto pull the trigger on this thing
because it's regularly, like, 70 to $90,and it's just like a six inch figure.
This isn't like some sort of,
like, big, kind of like hot toys, like sideshow collectible thing.
so I keep my eye on it, and I havea feeling it's, an affordable price.
Like, if you're in Japan and you can justwalk into a store and get one.

(05:42):
So the millennial,
tax has not quite hit me on this one,but it could happen any day.
Chris,I understand your feeling. Oh, absolutely.
And it's it'sjust one of those things you.
I wish I could have bought these thingswhen I was younger.
Now I'm an adultand have the money to do so.
So guess what?
I will buy myselfthose toys in this moment.
one of the things, actually, before wewe swap topics here, was do you remember

(06:05):
the Power Rangers that could fliptheir heads like they were asking?
Did they flip their heads? Yeah.
yes. My grandfather would buya whole set for her, for us grandkids.
And I remember would playing with thoseand combining their weapons together
to make the super ultra power weaponor whatever they had.
so, I love some nine original PowerRangers toys, through and through.

(06:26):
Whenever I see them, I'm like,oh, man, that's that's fantastic.
we also had a bunch of wrestling figures,
which is a good segue into our next topic, even though. Yes.
yeah.
We'll talk about thingsthat were big in the 90s.
Wrestling,last weekend was wrestle WrestleMania.
I don't remember what number it was.
I cannot tell you what number was,but it was wrestling.
I, I honestly didn't knowthey were numbered.

(06:47):
I thought they just kind oflike happened, yearly,
but I guess the Super Bowls numbered,so that makes sense.
Yeah, I think I think thereit was like 40.
I think it's like their yearly event.
Yeah, it was, it was WrestleMania 40.
I knew it was a nice, a nice even number.
but apparently,
these things, these wrestling
stories, they, they bring a lot of players in.

(07:08):
And at the WrestleMania last weekend, they had what, you know, I've seen called
their endgame moment, their AvengersEndgame moment, where at the end of it,
there's a wrestling match between,a guy named Cody Rhodes
and, another one named Roman Reigns, who was actually he was an actor.
If you watched the, fast spin offwith the Rock in it, and Jason Statham,

(07:29):
what was that one where they went to,The Rock's family, his his, hometown.
Oh, God. Hobbs and Shaw.
Hobbs and Shaw. Hobbs. Shaw.Yeah, yeah. Hobbs and Shaw.
so he was in there, but at the end of this,
they bring in,
John Cena shows up out of nowhere.
Who hasn't been in wrestling in forever.
He's been doing, you know, his Barbies and his, was it Ricky Stanky?

(07:52):
is that how you pronounce it? The movie?
you know, he he'sdoing all these other fun stuff shows up.
He has to.
Then all of a sudden,I don't know where the rock shows up.
Mike the Rock himself, he calls himselfthe final boss of wrestling,
and they have a standoff.
So you have Lily Black Adam in Peacemakerhere in the ring.
And then at the end of this,a wrestler from our era, The Undertaker,

(08:14):
shows up and takes down the rockmic out of out of nowhere.
Can you imaginebeing in the crowd at the mall
and all these unannounced peoplewho you know as, like, large wrestling
names and actors show upand are just doing things out of nowhere.
Yeah.
And it's like, you know, this momentalso was big enough to where I was seeing
people like, their reactionsfilmed, like just show up organically

(08:36):
in my social feeds.
So this kind of broke through just that, kind of wrestling firewall
and made it like, just like the commonknowledge of the internet.
It was pretty wild.
Like, I never really got into wrestlingas a kid, but every kid,
back in the day was in wrestlingeven just a little bit.
So even though I wasn't into it, Ikind of had to be into it no matter what.

(08:57):
Yeah. And,
So I had kind of just forgottenhow much showmanship
is actually in the show because you know, when you're playing like the video game,
which I think is what
a lot of our generationmigrated over to, is just playing the game
probably more hoursand actually watching wrestling.
It just kind of becomes in like a StreetFighter type game, and you forget that
there's even like a TV showbased around it.

(09:19):
That or like a like a Tony Hawk, right?
You're trying to get the most points, you're
trying to do the most moves kind of thing.
Like, yeah, it becomeslike you're just hitting the buttons.
You're not really paying attentionto, quote unquote, the storylines of the
the characters. Yeah.
And you sent me this clip and we were juston the couch watching something.
So I pulled it up on my phone and I waslike, oh, wow, this is getting crazy.

(09:40):
And as soon as the clip was over, like,I pause or whatever we were watching,
I played it to the TVbecause I knew my wife had,
had a fan, nostalgia for the hit taker.
I was like, oh, she's going to love this.
And I'm sure it's classic for like, that.
Kind of like, Bellto to sound before the lights go black.

(10:02):
And then he shows up
and then when it goes back off, like they've, they've disappeared.
Like he'sliterally taken him to the underworld.
Like, that is the type of stuffthat when you're a kid, there is like a
non-zero percent possibility in your headthat you think that actually happened.
Like, oh,he actually took the rock to hell, like I

(10:22):
he is not going to be in any more Fastand Furious movies
because he's gone foreverand they just filmed it live on TV.
I can't believe this actually happened.
So seeing that momentnow as an adult like it actually, like
we're on the whole the, style.
Yeah, it was actually kind of great.I loved it.
my wife, had, had a good timewatching the clip, but,
as far as us, that's all it was.
It was just a clip we saw on social media, but it sounds like a ton of other people

(10:46):
had fun. Yeah.
And it's just it'sone of those things, like,
I know it's kind of wrestling'sbeen coming back,
if you will, like, you know, it ebbs and flows.
It's in waves.
so I know it's been coming back, but,you know, I think it was like
maybe Monday or something like,
I think John Cena in the Rock or like, yeah,
we're not doing wrestlingfor a little bit now.
like they came back for like a moment, you know, a couple weeks,

(11:07):
and then now they're back off doing moviestuff again, right?
Like, we knew they're not going to go backto wrestling permanently, but
to have that drawn to hitall those checkpoints
and to have this big quoteunquote crossover with these large names,
I get the excitement of the peoplewho do love this and watch this regularly.
I was like, I get it.
I envy you to be able to have this momentand the payoff

(11:29):
after all these months or yearsor however long it's been for them. So,
absolutely awesome.
I thought that was really fun.
I had to share it with youbecause I'm like, I like,
you're my litmus for this, right?
Because we both don't watch wrestling.
But I'm like,if I think this is pretty cool,
and I got like a stupid grin on my face, maybe Michael.
Michael, too.
So, that's, I'm glad to do it.

(11:51):
So, Awesome.
And then you,
we have some other stuffwe're gonna talk about next week.
But, Mike, you
looks like you've been diving into a movieand a show yourself here.
Yeah.
This is what happens when a brand new showlands on Amazon Prime.
And it reminds you.
You have an Amazon Prime subscription.
So, Chris and I are going to,hopefully review

(12:11):
fallout in full, next week.
the show, not the games I've played, the game.
Mike doesn't have enough timeto play the games.
Yeah.
Which is gonna be really helpful because,
Chris is going to have some more contactsthat he can, lay on me.
So we're going to talk all falloutall next week.
But, in the meantime,my Amazon Prime app is opened.
I've been slowly working my waythrough the second season of invincible,

(12:33):
which is great.
I don't know why I keep forgettingthat invincible is good,
but every time I put it backon, I'm reminded.
Oh, wow, this is really, really good.
but then I'm in the Amazon Prime app,so we're looking for a funny two movie,
funny movie to watch last night.
And there's,a film on there called bottoms,
which I've heard of before, but,you know, we decided to check it out.
And essentiallyit's like, Booksmart meets Fight Club.

(12:58):
throw in with a little bit of,like, satirical comedy on top of that.
It's just really, really funny.
It's, stupid.
It's hilarious.
It's just about these two girls
that start a fight club at their schoolso they can hook up with some other girls.
It's really, really funny.
a quick watch the movie felt likeit was like, you know, 90 minutes.

(13:18):
So you're you're in and out.It's hilarious.
there's a there's a really funny partat the end of the movie
where there's, like, this football sceneand they're building up to this
big football game and, and,I literally think the movie didn't
have enough budgetto fill out the other end of the field,
like the visitors team stands. So they're totally empty.

(13:39):
So they just I think they just worked it
into the scriptand they turned it into a joke.
And it was really, really funny.
So the movie just feels likereally scrappy.
Marshawn Lynch is in it.
He's kind of like a supporting, name,
I think, to kind of put on the poster, but he's pretty funny in it as well.
So, I could highly recommend bottoms.
And that, starsis, Ayo and a berry right from the bear.

(14:02):
And, she voiced, April O'Neiland Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Him as well.
So that's. That's true.
Her her career is skyrocketing right now.
So she is on the trajectory
to hit the dart board of a superhero movieat some point in time.
Like that is I feel like.
Well, she was she wasshe was hired in, Thunderbolts.

(14:22):
But, due to it being delayed, she and.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
She she she wasshe had to back out of that.
But I mean, I, you know, obviously those people rescheduled.
They're probably goingto come back in another movie.
So I, I wouldn't count around eitherright, in that situation.
So, it's just everything got rescheduledbut making new stuff.
So I, I agree with you.
She will be in one of these filmssooner than later.
It's great.

(14:42):
But also, while you have your Amazon Prime open.
we just started watching the new Mr.
and Mrs. Smith TV show.
it's kind ofI don't know exactly how heavily it's
influence by the Brad Pitt and AngelinaJolie movie.
I think it's just kind of morejust lifting the concept of two spies that

(15:03):
are pretending to be husband and wife, which really isn't a wholly original idea.
It's like something, you know, that literally happened, like
with Russian spies.
If you've seen, like, The Americans on FX.Yeah.
I don't think I think it was that nameonly because the difference is that they
they already know they're each other spiesin this one right out the gate. So,

(15:24):
Oh yeah, that's right.
Because in the, in the moviethey didn't know yet.
Then they became each other like, yeah, they,
they became each other's like target.
Oh yeah. That's right. It'sbeen a minute since I've watched it.
And that's on the spoiler.
That's just, you know, how the show sets up
and you know, it'sbeen out for two months now.
So they they know each other are spies.
And I think that adds a dynamic to it.
I've not watched I actually accidentallylistened to a review of it, which,

(15:45):
you know, again, you know,it sounds like you enjoyed it.
So I'm going to say, yeah,at least they enjoyed it.
So that's that's
yeah, yeah.
Stumble across something elseI was listening to. So. Absolutely.
Yeah.
We're a couple episodes in and it'skind of fun watching, Donald Glover.
I haven't seen him in a whileand something because he's just like this
multi-hyphenatethat's working on a thousand things.

(16:06):
So, like, sometimes it's music, you know, sometimes it's directing, sometimes
he's acting.
So it's just kind ofnice to see him again.
So yeah.
Overall, just rememberto open up your Amazon Prime Video
because you're probably paying for italready.
And don't know it. You.
So you you've got me thinking herebecause, well, a couple months ago
Amazon announced they're doing ads.
You have to watch ads to watch Prime now.

(16:29):
are you on the ad free version yet?
Because you forget.
I assumeyou're not in the ad free version.
The nice thing is, isI think they are taking that into account
whenever they're kind of airing these, like, big kind of movie specials or,
you know, their big streaming seriesbecause we had commercials
in front of our fallout episodes, butnothing ever interrupted in the middle.

(16:51):
It was just like 30s in the front and, youknow, 30s in the front of the next one.
So it seems like they're being cautious
of where those goif you're actually paying.
But it was interesting.
I was googling the fallout show earliertoday,
and I landed on kind of like the Amazonhomepage, and I think you can watch it
absolutely for free because they, they had like the freevee, logo on it.

(17:15):
So even if like, you're not an AmazonPrime subscriber, which I, I it's
I, I can't think I could throw a rock,
you know, in a stadium of peopleand hit somebody
that doesn't have have Amazon Primebut you could watch it on Freevee.
It seems like for free. Yeah.
I was like, sometimes I do these firstepisodes on YouTube for free, like the,
you know, the hook infor the first one free because they have,

(17:37):
they have a lot of faith in the show, you know, and then that's, you know, that
that's awesome. That's great.
That means they, they, they really are diving in.
So, not see on YouTube, but it is probably I would guarantee
you probably that first one's freethen, along the way.
So, I'm excited to talk about next week.
I like I said, it'sjust like my son Mikey,
this has been one of those weekends wherenothing has gone to to schedule, to plan.
And as some people may know,I travel for work twice a year,

(17:59):
and this is that week as well, coming up.
So I'm, just, you know, up to my eyeballs on this.
I'm jealous of all this stuff.
You gotta you gotta watch, along the way.
But I am going to dive into newsbecause I'm not jealous.
Mike.
I'm upset at myself, for not knowing this Coca-Cola
announced a collaborationwith Marvel this week.
Or maybe in the week before,so you can go buy Marvel designated Coca

(18:22):
Cola cans and Coke and Diet Cokeor Coke Zero variety.
And they have differentcharacters on them.
there's a trailer.
They came with this Mike, and I don't knowif you've watched this trailer or not.
This is absolutely amazing piece ofI watching it.
I'm watching it right nowand it is really funny.
I don't know if it's just because I'm
conflating the colors of the two brandstogether, but Marvel right now,

(18:42):
it really does feel like the Coca Colaand DC really feels like the Pepsi.
And they're they're very color alignedbetween their, you know, blues and reds.
But I think also in popularityand ubiquitous, it's this makes sense.
This pairing is understandable. In this trailer.
You know, it's like, you know, it'sthis it's all about getting the coke to
to one of the characters in thereand the people that are in the comic books

(19:05):
from the comic bookcharacters come to life.
And when they animate them off the page,
they look likethey're off the comic book page.
So when they're moving and and interactingwith the the environment around them,
like there's a daredevil who looks likehe's in watercolor color in, if you will.
there's a couple others throughout,you know,
we get to see a cheeky Deadpool, Colossus.

(19:28):
It's a really fun trailer.
I recommend anyone watch it,even if you're not gonna buy these.
If you're gonna drink the Cokes,
watch this trailer to seewhat they could do with comic book art.
Mike, if they ever wanted to animatethat in a unique style.
Some, I would say it'snot similar to Miles,
Spider-Verse movies or team, and but it's unique in and of itself,
and that goes a lot to showhow much love they put in here.

(19:49):
and then also, I've got a list of thecharacters on cans of bottles on Coke.
We have blade, cable, Colossus, Daredevil,Deadpool, Elektra, juggernaut, kingpin,
Loki, Moon Knight, Nega, Sonic,Teenage Warhead, interesting choice.
Wolverine, Nick Fury, storm, Super Skrull, and War Machine.
On Coke Zero, we have Ant-Man, BlackPanther, Black Widow, Captain America,
Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Groot,Hulk, Iron Man, Miss Marvel, She-Hulk,

(20:11):
rocket, Scarlett with Shang-Chi,Star-Lord, Thanos, and Thor.
you're going to find Team Coke versus TeamCoke Zero fans all throughout this.
I think Coke Zero has the best list, but my warning for those of you, Mike,
is I bought a 24 pack of Coke Zerobecause I drink Coke Zero on a house.
We keep it for our guests.
We put it in our storage unitwhen we're not drink. Going through it.
Don't think we're going to do itthat fast.

(20:32):
Believe me,all the cans for one character.
Mike I got been had.
And I'm so upset at this.
so when I was at the store the other day,I spotted these 12 packs
and they had, the character,at least on the box.
Does the character on the boxequate to the cans on the inside?
No, because there's multiple characterson the box.

(20:52):
When you go and look at the boxthey went through.
Okay, I bought the 24 of Coke Zerothinking they were all different.
I'm really just, you know, get a bunch of them.
my wife bought regular coke, a 12 pack, you know, to, to help me out.
And when we opened hers, hers was all,I think Daredevil.
so, like, when you buy a case, you have to get them all.
So now I'm upset thinking I've got.

(21:12):
I trade cans, Coke cans with peopleto get the whole set, and.
Yeah, because otherwise you'd have to buyat the very minimum
30 like 30 cases of coke.
They, they do sell them,I think in glass bottles online.
I think glassbottles would be interesting.
yeah.
My desire to collect one of eachreally died very quickly after I opened

(21:34):
that first case, of complete Iron Man's,if you will.
So I'mjust kind of bummed out, in that regard.
What is cool, though, and I will say this, if you have,
they have an AR app for this.
And when you put the cans in the cans,
like when they're together, they do some cool,
animations and artwork and stuffthat comes off the cans when you.

(21:56):
So they're actually not just collectorpieces.
They actually have a little interactivefunctionality
as well with the AR stuff, and you can winprizes and stuff in that app.
And I thought that was cool,
but I'm just so mad they didn'tmix and match the cases, make it like,
you know how big we are and food stuffand drink stuff.
I thought this would be likeright up our alley, but,
the kick, kick in the face, but yeah, yeah.

(22:18):
let me know.
Please let me know if you'll trade meany of them.
I will, I will hold you an Iron manand a daredevil.
wholeheartedly.
If youif you want to trade something for me.
So, But. Yeah,
keep moving on. This is not CinemaCon.
This is outside of Sydney.
Come on, Mike,
they didn't talk Fantastic Four there,so we're going to jump into it first.
And, Kevin V confirmed fantasticFour will be shot
entirely in Imax format.

(22:42):
which is cool.
That's a great announcement for this movieto be done in Imax and have the format
all the way.
There will be no,
there will probably be sceneswhere it jumps
back and forth between frame rates, but to film all night,
it's going to be a different experienceoverall.
Right?
I think that's yeah, I mean, I feel likeif anything, that's more of a signal
to the audience and just Hollywoodin general that like this is a big deal.

(23:05):
We need to remind peoplethat when Marvel movies
come out, they are supposed to be very big deals.
So, I this is cool.
I don't necessarily need a marvel movieshot entirely in Imax, but,
this is a good signifier to be like, hey, don't forget that
we make awesome stuff that you want to seeon the biggest screen.
And that's a partnershipwith Imax as well to do that.

(23:27):
So that's an even, I think, a bigger signright there, not retrofitting it to Imax.
They don't have a couple Imax scenes.
They're working with Imaxto secure those release dates
and get these in thetheaters, early on that have Imax.
I will probably not watch this in Imax, because the theater that has Imax is the,
pardon,my French shittiest theater in town.
they've updated their seats. They've not done anything.

(23:48):
I just hate it. So, yeah, that really is a bummer.
Like you, if you want to indulge in Imax,it's very specific to your region.
Like what is closest to you?
I mean, I'm not trying to complain.
I, I live in Los Angeles,so I have access to some pretty decent
Imax screens, but like the like it'seither like a hassle to get to them.

(24:08):
Like the most convenient theater is alwaysthe one closest to you, right?
So and the closest Imax to me, like that'swhere I saw Avatar Way of Water.
And like, there is absolutely no wayto get out of your seat
once the movie starts goinglike everyone to the left or right of
you has to stand up in orderfor you to go use the restroom.
So I'm not exactly like running to go

(24:30):
see things in Imaxjust due to the convenience factor.
So on. That asterisk.
So if you are happen to be pausein your Amazon Prime app and switch
back over to your Disney Plus app,you can at least turn on Imax at home
to get that full frame so you don't haveblack bars, which I think is cool.
That's right. Yeah. I got, I'm really.
Kind of borrow somebody's, AppleVision Pro, and then I can really take in,

(24:52):
in the aspect ratio. Yeah. Jesus.
No, don't do that.Don't do any of that stuff.
Just just use it on your Disney Plus app.
Just turn it on Imax or selectthe Imax versions.
I and Mike, you know me,I, I keep a library of movies myself.
that that I can access.
And I actually have an Imax library
that I don't share with anybody elsebecause they're in 4K versions.
So, I do keep the Imax versionsbecause I do one thing.

(25:14):
I think it's cool to take upthe whole screen when you have that.
Also, in the Fantastic Four, there's a rumor from Scoopers out there
that Franklin Richards will thethe son of Reed and Sue,
will have a connectionto Galactus in this movie.
And we've already talked about possiblybeing an alternate universe, right.
With the artwork last week in thethe Charlotte Ball Fantastic Four,

(25:38):
EarthX was where, Franklin Richards actually
became Galactusin the future, of that, universe.
Now, I don't think it's going to be EarthX. Exactly.
They may be pulling some inspiration, which is great, but in the Jonathan
Hickman's Fantastic Fourrun in the Marvel 616, probably about ten,
probably 15 years ago now, Wolf.

(25:59):
there was a version of Franklin
Richards who came back from the future, who came back to this timeline,
and he was as powerful enoughto actually have Galactus be his herald.
Instead of the other way around.
which is an interesting specwhere you can just control
a Galactus at your whim, kind of thing.
So I'm interested to see how they dothis again.
These are all rumors.

(26:20):
We don't know anything.
They're excited to get in filming, but I'm glad they're kind of again,
taking thethe snow globe of Fantastic Four.
We've seen Galactus, we've seen DoctorDoom, we've seen the Phenix, where?
Shake it up a bit.
Give us something different before
you know you have your big team upsand secret wars along the way.
so I'm cool with. I'm really cool.
I can also not recommend JonathanHickman's Fantastic Four run enough

(26:43):
if you want to have some good, good, solidFantastic Four comic books in your life.
So check those out.
CinemaCon 2024.
One of the, weirdest conventions, to date.
Mike and I always say this
because it's for cinema owners to go to,and they're like, all the movie
theaters are there to say, hey,we support you as a cinema, right?

(27:03):
You know,
we get most of our money from you showingour, your, our movie in your theaters.
So this is a lot of industry peoplefor the cinema owners
or people who are making merchandise.
So we have some merchandise notes in here.
along the way, something I couldn't
find a bullet point for the AMC theaters,I think head of AMC theaters.
Or maybe it's marketing said the Dunepopcorn bucket would not have been made

(27:26):
if they had known the reaction was goingto be like it was to that popcorn bucket.
He was like, you sick!
Online pirates have ruined this.
But we sold a bunch of them,so we're probably do it again.
Yeah, yeah, that's like the dumbest thing.
Like, and also that means
nobody has any sort of insight into, human nature over at AMC.
Like, you can't look at thisand make, make a determination.

(27:49):
Yeah.
So AMC didn't make it.
There's another company that made it.
And, actually,I think the company we have it below,
for Superman, but, like, you know, the company who made it, like,
I don't think they probably hadany inclination of, like,
they didn't have, like, hey,we're going to make this viral.
Hey, we're going to make this on TikTok.
Like, they probably just made something.
And then it just kind of blew upand now they're like,

(28:11):
I feel like they're going to reston their laurels
a bit
and we're going to seea lot of the same stuff,
and that's going to bethe disappointing factor in all of this.
I like nobody wants itactually gross per verse popcorn vessel.
Man, you just got lucky. It was a dune worm.
Like, make something creative for us.
I'm going to have to tell my kid.
back in the day, we didn't have these,

(28:33):
sophisticated, injection
molded plastic formsthat you could display on LEDs.
The movie was over.
We had, like, a thin tin bucket at best,
that maybe had, like,a holographic label on it.
And that's about as far as it went.
So what I'm going to do is I'm goingto order on Amazon some of those, really
cheap paper popcorn bags that they serveat, like high school concessions and,

(28:58):
put those in a time capsulefor you and your future child, like,
so we can open those and, and be like, you remember when things were just paper
and, you know, we just threw him awaybecause we're here.
Here's a thousand of them.
So, but.
Yeah, but, the dune popcorn bucketdid come up there because obviously
it didn't take off, like a wildfire earlier this year.

(29:20):
But let's get into the superheromovie news here.
And the first is we're gonna have withThunderbolts. Thunderbolts is filming.
Right.
We talked about this, with FlorencePugh's video on set the other day.
And Kevin Feige has said thatthe Asterix in the name is actually there.
They show the title cardand it will be revealed in the movie.
So they will not talk about the Asterixuntil the movie comes out.

(29:41):
that.
Wait.
So wait, so are they saying, like, when they print,
like the action figures or thethe popcorn bucket,
the label is going to say Thunderboltswith an asterix on it,
and then the Asterixis going to be like a joke in the movie.
That is.
I don't know if it's a joke orif it's just like a reference to something
else, like in there, but yes, it will havethe Asterix I'm trying to pull up.

(30:05):
the image using Google Image search timewithin the past week
and see what I can pull.
Yeah.
So, I'm actually going to send you this,
this image, Mike,so you can see that it is in there.
It's not even like a normal like,it's like,
like an asterix in the upper right, like a footnote kind of thing.
So I guess they're not going to retitle itor give it a subtitle

(30:27):
like I, I'm curious what the whatthe reasoning is and I it makes it.
If I just had to make, Marvel guess
a humor or
maybe point in the movie ismaybe they're all being recruited.
They have to signlike a form or something.
And then it says like, oh,you all, sign here to acknowledge

(30:49):
that you're formally be joining the teamknown as, like, the Thunderbolts.
And there's an Asterix and somebody goeslike, what's this Asterix mean?
And then somebody makes a joke, and then they're
look at theall the way at the bottom of the form.
And the Asterix says, like,I don't know something, but that, that
that would be my guess.
I just don't,I don't know why it would be there.
Other like, well, I've heard it's kind of,you know, a heavier movie,

(31:09):
but I would imagine that was likemaybe a comedy movie.
But the rumor is it's going to kind of tiein to our next point here,
that it could be more of a Dark Avengerssetup.
where, you know, General Ross, who is now the president, I guess
President Ross, in the upcomingCaptain America Brave New World,
is trying to create his own Avengers, and he probably can't use Avengers or,

(31:31):
you know, he's going to use Avengers.
But like,
after this movie, at the end of it, you'llfind out that they were recruited into,
I guess, his Avengers orsomething like that. Maybe,
you know, the
maybe the president, presidentRoss, you sign the Thunderbolts.
Asterix.
Thunderbolts is, a copyrightowned by General Thunderbolt Ross.
And you now work for him?Kind of deal? Maybe so.

(31:51):
Well, yeah, there's something that could be there.
I do like the idea, though, of,
maybe a governmental organizationtrying to, co-opt the word Avengers.
And then there's like,
there's stark industry like lawyersthat show up and they're just like,
no, no, no, we own.
This comic,
but a bunch of pre-paid people like, you know, holding that down kind of deal.
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
So yeah, I, I'm excited for Thunderbolts.Obviously.

(32:14):
it's coming out May 5th, 2025.
so we're a little almost two years.
No where you're way. Shoot. That isthat was soon.
I thought it was I forgot I forget howhow close we are to to thunderbolts.
So, the facts in the Masons pretty good.
I'm excited to see this and hopefullyget some more, costume images later.
We don't have them now,
but I would love to seesome of the characters

(32:35):
in their new costumesbecause as we know, every superhero movie,
they get minor alterations along the way,and I love to check those out.
Next up is Captain America BraveNew World.
Mike.
this movie is going, undergoingor possibly
has undergone extensive reshootsafter the Marvel Studios
retooling, what, 6 to 8 months agonow, I guess in the in last summer.

(32:58):
but some new images.
They showed off some clips from the movieand, one of them, he's,
General Ross, now played by Harrison.
President Ross, played by HarrisonFord, is telling Anthony Mackie.
So he wants to rebuild the Avengers.
You know, in that regard.
this image is interesting.Looking at this.
We get a picture of HarrisonFord across from Anthony Mackie
in his, dark blue Captain America suit.

(33:20):
We've gone from the white back to thethe Winter soldier.
Look, when I went and looked and looked at the,
there's a set photo behind the scenesset for these two on set.
Harrison Ford'shair is not cut like that in that set.
So I don't know if maybe they cut his hairin the reshoots, to do that.
Oh, and then Anthony Mackie'sarm plates are not metallic.
They look more rubber.
Now, that could be for filmingto make them white.

(33:42):
Thank you. The metallic in the shots here.
But not a lot to pull out of this, but I am excited to to see
the first trailer for thisto get some word on those changes,
what they were, and what we can expectin this movie along the way.
I mean, these are all great questionsbecause we kind of know
that this movie is uniquecompared to any other kind of Marvel movie

(34:04):
to come out that this has seenthe most like extensive, like retooling.
Right?
I mean, we'll obviouslynever know entirely what happens,
you know, behind the veil over thereat Marvel Studios.
But it's that came out,it seemed like from the reports
that people weren't digging it.
And that historically is not somethingthat they faced a lot.

(34:25):
And we know 5G has kind of been praisedas the guy that can, like,
save a movie, you know, inpost-production, in the editing room.
And the fact
that that seems like it couldn't be doneand they had to go back at it.
You know, you always remind people, Chris,on this show
that, reshoots are always in the budget.
They're already there, they're always scheduled and ready to go.

(34:46):
But this has kind of elevated pastjust normal reshoots.
So I am curious how this changes.
You know. To your point,I would tell you, say two things.
Number one, your first thing about, audience, you know,
I think I think the reaction was metaland you can't have metal anymore, right?
You can't do
just okay, content.

(35:08):
because thatthat's not what people expect.
That's not what drivespeople to the theaters.
You need you need to bring your A-game.
you know, b pluses probably won't evenkind of make you need at least an A minus
to get people in theaters.
So you don't you don't even needto sneak into the into the boardroom.
Disney.
Bob Iger has, publicly announcedpretty much every chance he can to people

(35:31):
that like, we are going to returnto quality with our studio movies.
So he's saying the quiet part out loud.
You know,we don't have to like exactly the fact
that they are tryingto make these movies better.
And like you said, Chris, they can't afford middling.
They need great box office successesevery time they go to the mat.
Right.
And if the test viewers are just middle ofthe road, that's that's not good, right?

(35:54):
You want them to to to leave excitedor at least having some sort of feelings,
towards it.
I would say the other thing against
you know, you mentioned Kevinfor you fixing things in post.
I think he is fixing it in post.
The post is just a lot longerthan we anticipated.
Right.
the post includes turning the camera back.
Yeah.
And and this movie did come out of the,

(36:15):
the other Bob, era of movies, right?
Yeah. This was a Jpeg announced movie.
It fed out of the this show,Captain America, and that Captain
Falcon and Winter soldier, you know, kind of leans into this a little bit.
So, like, it comes out of that eraso much like Daredevil Born again,
you know, you have to.
They went back to the drawing board, and maybe they're not going back
to the drawing board completely, but my guess is they're refined.

(36:38):
They brought up the idea of Winter soldierquite a bit
when they were talking about this, becauseit's a ten year old movie this month.
So knowingthat Winter soldier was ten years ago,
they're coming back outwith this next year.
They need to recapture that energy,if you will.
And, you know, let them take their time, let them do their work, let them find that
that, that greatness in hereand put that forward,

(36:59):
even if it takes again, it has been,I think was delayed a whole year,
wasn't supposed to come outthis May or the summer.
So absolutely take your timeto give us something quality
rather than just another, yeah, if we did it kind of deal. So
let's do that.
So check out thosethat image here in the show notes.
moving on another I think it was like
a bunch like ten plus minutes of Deadpoolwas shown to the audience.

(37:22):
Mike and I'm jealous of these peoplewho get to see this.
they've Deadpool, Wolverine.
So some of the stuff on siteearly on, it's and we come before this,
they shut off the moviecollector cups, showing off a fully masked
Hugh Jackman's Wolverine outfit, and then also Deadpool, which isn't
much of a difference compared to,you know, his previous suit.
I mean, I know there are changes.

(37:42):
He does get a new suit, but yeah, when you look at Deadpool,
you're looking for the red maskwith the black eye covers, right.
And that so so he's got that.
They've got that,
they filmed a, a clipspecifically for this where they were like
they were using some, some cusswords and like, Deadpool is like, oh,
you can't believe we got this cameoin this movie before he says it.
Wolverine or,you know, Hugh Jackman, like,

(38:05):
pushes them out of the frame or somethinglike that and stuff like that.
So they've been having a lot of fun
with this movie, and I'm, I'm excitedfor the fun, the spontaneity
and like the riffing of this filmto kind of come out later.
This some from that then Kevin fight.
You also said, hey, we're going to dosome real crude popcorn vessels for this.
And I'm like, damn it,that's what I don't want eat.

(38:26):
I don't want to hear that.That's predictable.
Give me something un, predictable.
Yeah.I feel like I've already been seeing.
I don't know if it's the dog or thethe tail wagging the dog,
but I've seen lots of popcorn bucketsthat might be generated by AI, but.
Or just maybe all all artwork looks likeI know to me of some possible popcorn.

(38:48):
Is it is it the one where the mouth.
The mouth is on the side? Yeah.
So that was that was passage.
That's boss logic doing it.
so so he he did pathologic sharedthat pretty early on this week,
with the Deadpool Wolverine one.
I mean,
I don't know what they're going to dowith this, and I'm not excited about it
because the idea iswe want to make one that's offensive.

(39:09):
That is whereI'm kind of concerned. Right?
You can't force,
a virality,
you know, in the clip in things you buy,you can't just say,
hey, make it go viralto your marketing team, and then it works.
So, but thankfully we do have the brains,
you know, we have Ryan Reynolds,Hugh Jackman, Stoinis.

(39:32):
He's not really associatedwith the crudeness.
So that contrast is awesome.
Shawn Levy is really, you know, puttinghis best foot forward for this film.
So we have some opportunity here.
But hopefully it'snot just made in a silo.
And then they don't tell anyoneuntil is released.
And yeah, and AMChas literally thousands of them,
on their shelves for the next two yearsbecause no one bought them along the way.

(39:53):
So, I'm excited for Deadpool. Wolverine.
We have it coming out.
What, July this year? Mike.
so we are we are on
on the summer's
eve for that, but we're going to wrap upmarvel and shift over to some DC news.
We haven't had a lot of DC news,
and this weekand I know this might not be semicolon,
but I know they probably should have itsoon.

(40:13):
The Joker two trailer droppedand I almost forgot about this
because everything elsehas really consumed
my news feedrather than the Joker stuff along the way.
Yeah, that, a part of me made me, like,a little bit concerned.
I saw the trailer, I liked it, it looks.
It looks crazy. It looks fun.

(40:33):
It looks like a perfect sequelthat came off of the first Joker. But,
you're right in a sense of like,I haven't heard anyone talking about it.
You know, nobody is like, making memes about it.
I haven't seen any screenshotshared any like, deep dive,
like, oh,look at these Easter eggs type thing.
I'm sure they exist out there, but they'rethey're not cracking through into my,

(40:55):
feed. What?
One of the things I would say tothat is this is very much a teaser trailer
along the way. There's no story points, right?
It's very much a bunch of quick clipsand some music, but but continue.
Yeah, but this feels like somethingwhere we do do we even need more of this?
Like, need more like advertising in a way.
Right. Like this trailer is enough for me.

(41:15):
I already plan on seeing it.
It just reminded me like, oh, yeah,I really liked the first movie.
You know, the first moviehad a little bit of a of a reality to it.
You were talking aboutearlier, the popcorn buckets.
because it wasn't out yet.
Everyone thought it was going to bethe fall of society.
Who was going to go see the Joker movie?
And then they're going to go outinto the streets
and like, vandalized cars or something.

(41:36):
And then really, everyone came out of the theater
going like, oh, we need bettermental health care in this country.
So it seems like this is just,
mental health care part two.
pleasepass some sort of a budget for this.
with that, It seems like in this teaser,
Harley Quinn is a patient at the hospitalrather than a doctor like her

(41:58):
normal origin story iswhere she's a psychiatrist, Harley Quinn,
who works with the Joker.
It seems like she's actually a patientthere at the hospital.
Right. So, which is a little different.
And, you obviously we've talked about,is this a musical?
Is it or not?
It sounds it's a jukebox musicalwith a bunch of popular songs.
there is a very popular song, like,

(42:20):
I guess an acapella version or a lighterversion, if you will, over this,
trailer.
But myconcern is MC when I said Harlequins
a patient, they're, played by Lady Gaga, who is a musician.
Is it a fakeout?
Is is Joker two in his head?
The whole movie, rather than actuallybeing things that happen?
Because if you remember the first one, there's a fake out scene with

(42:41):
from Deadpool two as Easy Beats, who is like his love interest,
and he fancies that she feels the same.
She doesn't likehe breaks into her apartment
and you come to find it's all in his head.
So like, is
is she a fake out is like he sees herand then he creates a story in his head.
yeah.
Because the trailer is reallyis really organized in that way because we

(43:02):
see shots of like, Harley Quinn and Jokerdancing out in the city streets,
and then it cuts through them dancing inlike an insane asylum ward, you know?
So yeah, this could just be one big, like, giant kind of, like,
prank on everyone who just like, oh,you think you're about to go see, like,
a movie where Joker escapes from prisonand goes out and does more Joker stuff.

(43:22):
It's like, oh, no, he'sjust having all of this in his head.
I mean, that would be like a kind of,an interesting structure to the movie,
if maybe that's like the first act,you know, it's just all in his head.
And then they actually do breakout, andthen the audience is not entirely sure.
Wait, are they out?Are they still in there?
And then maybe even Joker doesn'teven realize he's out in the real world.
Yeah.

(43:43):
To me,my my mind went to, that Leonardo DiCaprio
movie where he's at the same timeand he thinks he's a detective there.
I have the name of a lost that someone'sprobably yelling at me,
and I'm gonna get some text tomorrowmorning about you
talking about shutter shutter island.
It's like Shutter Islandneeds, that awful Zack Snyder movie
that he wrote and directed, which is called Sucker Punch.

(44:04):
Yeah. Which one? Yes.
Sucker punch, because Sucker Punch wasvery, you know, heavily on the musical.
I think, you know, the musicseems to be a heavy, important thing.
So I think it will havethose musical elements.
But I think maybe it's a mixture of reallife things and fantasy at the same time.
Right. Like maybe, maybe it's not all in his head.
Maybe it's not all real, but like, maybe it's a mix of both of them,
or even could be Joker two being like, maybe the viewpoint isn't from,

(44:27):
you know, Arthur Fleck's point of view.
Maybe it's from Harley Quinnpoint of view.
The movie is instead of his so we couldwe could see we could be surprised.
it Denzel Washington's made me realizeI have not watched the first Joker
since I watched it in theaters.
Like, that movie is emotionally drainingthrough and through,
and you've got to really be,
probably walk out in the

(44:48):
daylight afterwards after watching that,
because you're not going to want to goto bed happy, after watching that movie.
So I might need to cue that oneback up and, and take a look.
Is that on Amazon? Probably not.
It could be.
You mentioned, off off airin our personal tax.
Literally.
David Zaslav will licenseany movie to any streamer.

(45:08):
Right now.
The Batman is on Tubi.
I think you showed me.
yeah.
The Batman, the,the Suicide Squad is on there.
ever.I think I saw Green Lantern on there.
It seems like they don't care.
Like we don't need to worryabout exclusives.
if Tubi wants to buy it, I want the money.
Yeah, we need we need the money real bad.
I'm going to put the Joker and just watch.

(45:29):
We like to get, Netflix Max,
Max on Prime and Netflix with
ads so you can watch itif you have Netflix or Max right now.
So, it seems like it's part of that, that streaming service over there.
Moving on.
SupermanJames Gunn is not at this convention,
but he did send in a videoand he was able to show

(45:49):
off, the logo of Superman,
which we kind of seenhalfheartedly covered in snow.
the someone took it, enhanced ithere for this image we're looking at,
it's very much a flash across the chestrather than a, an S at the end of the day,
if you will. But, it looks fine.
I've got no qualms here, Mike.

(46:10):
Any as a designer, do you doyou feel strongly about this?
I don't really have any strong opinionsabout it.
I mean, once you have so many incarnationsof the character
kind of rebooted, you got to just startfrom a new direction.
They'll be a well, within our lifetimes.
They'll be another incarnation of Supermanon the big screen,
where they go back to, like, the original original logo and they'll.

(46:32):
Go, wow, what is the big cursive S? Yeah, yeah.
And you know, this comes from the comic books again,
I think from the Kingdom Come logo.
So nothing this originalat the end of the day over there
where they're taking comic booksand putting them into to live action.
So that's that's nothing new here.
But the other part of notes,
the same company who created the Dunepopcorn bucket,
which I think is working for WarnerBrothers, is working on merch for this
film. So,

(46:54):
I can actually, I love my popcorn vessels.
I need to start running that inbecause I can't buy them all.
I only buy the cool ones. The Ghostbusters,
frozen in Paris.
It sounds like they're all aboutto be really, really cool.
So you better buy another house.
I'm going to have to get another room.
Here are my sex dungeon. Popcorn vessels.
because.
Because they're all raunchy and crude.

(47:17):
so, I mean, that's cool.
I mean, well, I was thinking aboutwhat's Superman merch.
I guess they'd probably make his, like, maybe the either the Ice fortress
would be the vessel, right?
You lift up the ice crystalsand you're opening your vessel,
and it probably lights up.Or maybe. Is it?
yeah. In the shape of his. His crest.
Like a just a diamond shaped thingthat's kind of extruded.

(47:37):
So that holds popcorn.
What would you put.
What would you what Superman popcornbucket would you give a mic if you could?
I just love thatthis one just random manufacturing
company has made a whole name for itselfby just making something that looks,
looks naughtyand probably not even by their choice.
They probably just like, threw out a couple ideas for for designs.

(48:00):
Warner Brothers are just like, yeah, let's make one of the worm.
And then they made it.
And now all of a suddenthey're getting all of these inquiries
to make more popcorn buckets.
It's like we just mold plastic.
There's nothing special going on here.
What's even crazyis they probably made the cheapest one
because the bottom of that bucket, it'sjust a metal tin
that you mentioned at the top of the show.
And this sits on the metal tenlike the worm thing does.

(48:21):
So it's not even like a custom mold.
Like, are the top like the bottomsjust a regular popcorn bucket? So,
I hope they make something cool.
I can I have like one of the.
I think it wasmaybe one of the cups from The Flash.
because I thought.
I thought maybe it was cheap,I don't remember, I didn't buy
something expensive, but I need to to toto to work on getting those.
But if you guys have any good ideas forthe Superman popcorn vessels, let us know.

(48:45):
We are here to hear your ideas.
If you have a drawing, bonus points along the way.
this was I don't think it was similarkind of thing.
It might have been in social media, Mike,
but I'm included in here
because Peacemaker Seasontwo officially started filming this week.
That's why we talked about John Cenaat the top of the show.
and there's a photo from James Gunnbecause obviously he's not directing

(49:05):
Superman, right?
He's got to go to, peacemaker.
But here's a photo of,the back of the shiny helmet of peacemaker
taken by James Gunn, and he is confirmedthat he is at least directing,
season one of the the series coming back.
So. Yeah.
Episode one, I think is what you meant.Yeah. Episode one.
Sorry. Episode one of season two. Sorry.

(49:26):
Yeah, I mean, that makes sense.
He's just kind of getting it,kind of getting it up to snuff.
I mean, we talked about seasonone of peacemaker.
Peacemaker kind of hoping that maybepeacemaker, hoping
that there ismaybe a little bit less of Gunn in it.
Like it seems like he'sgetting a little too self-indulgent.
Kind of like a,like a Taika Waititi type of move.

(49:49):
And like,we great, we love the creativity.
But like, I mean, we dial it backjust a little bit more.
Warheads are better than one, right?
Like that's what we always say.
Stuff like that.
All the good Marvel, all the great Marvel stuff
with two directorsand two writers, like. Right.
Like a team of fourdid all the great stuff over there. So,
not saying that he
can't do it, but I also see him directingat least the first episode.

(50:11):
I did see that, there's like a break in filming
on regular, on Superman and actorDavid Corn.
So was like doing some commercialsdown in Mexico or something like that.
And someone thought he met, who posted.
I was like, oh, I met Henry Cavillbecause apparently he looks so much
like Henry Cavill nowwith all the Superman muscles and haircut.
So, I thought that was pretty funny.

(50:33):
But yeah.
Peacemaker season two, the great. That's good news.
This is you know, a continuingpart of the DCU,
that will move forwardthat I'm happy we get.
Right. This was that was a really fun timeon the first, first season.
So, and everyone wants to know
what song and intro dance willthis show have for season two?
Yes. I don't know.

(50:53):
we'll we'll keep,
we keep our fingers crossedas that probably comes out.
probably best case next year,
probably about a year from now.
last Warner Brothers.
But here I have is for Lord of the rings.
If you don't remember, they have rights toto some of that, I'm pretty sure.
And they're doing an animecalled War of the road.
Hiram.
and it confirmsit is coming out later this year.

(51:15):
They didn't have anything,I think, other than this image.
Right, that I had, shared here.
this is old image.
I don't even think this came out of the,
you know, send semicolon. But,
for peoplewho don't know whether here is an anime
movie set in the Lord of the ringsuniverse, the historical
before any of the actualbooks kind of going on. So,

(51:35):
anime is big right now.
I, I mean, I can't,I can't knock, it's everywhere.
Everyone's doing an anime thing, so,
I guess Lord of the rings.
And it was only time before they got one.
Yeah, it seems like,I wouldn't be surprised
if you told me that this was also goingto be released on Netflix.
Just because Netflix
seems to be the home of anime adaptationsof any random thing that makes money.

(51:57):
So, I'm not trying to be harsh, but I probably won't be watching this
unless it breaks through the zeitgeistand gets so popular that you know
it becomes a must watch.
But I feel like this is just going to falldown the rabbit hole of like, what?
There was like anime adaptation of like, there's like a blade.
There's like a Blade Runner thingthat people liked.

(52:18):
I never watch, there's like, there's tonsof, like, Godzilla stuff out there.
I'm just not watching any other.
Yeah, I mean, I don't knowif I go to the theater to watch this.
I guess it's my thing.
I will watch it, but I don't needto go to the theater to watch it.
At the end of the day, this is something I feel would be very.
I'd be very comfortablewatching it at, at home,
for that.

(52:38):
So I hopefully we can seesome more of this stuff to see later.
Again, this is not a
it's not a retelling of anythingin the Lord of the rings books.
So that's a plus.
It'll be new stuff,
but it is wild because Amazon does havethe other Lord of the rings license.
That's why they're doing the prequelshow, right? The,
power of the Rings of Power.
Yeah.
So, absolutely all over the place with,if you're if you're Lord of the rings

(53:01):
fan, you'reyou're you're back for for more here,
shooting the Paramount stuff.
Sonic the Hedgehog three is,obviously being filmed.
We've talked about this before. It does.
It's confirmed that shadow of the Hedgehogwill be the villain.
there's some posters of, you know, a
Shadow the Hedgehog shadowacross some big cities and some posters.

(53:22):
But also, they did confirm in a clip JimCarrey is returning, but he will be carb
obsessed Doctor Robotnik, meaning he is taking on his Eggman
look that we know him from the video gamesthroughout this, all right?
And that can be kind of fun.
Yeah,
I think I think I don't know
if the clip was cut for itor something, like,
I think it might have been cutfor the show,

(53:43):
where he does mention that he was,you know, looking a little larger
than he's just been eating a lot of carbslately.
And I'm like, well, that's prettythat's pretty on the nose.
That's pretty good, at least.
Like, they didn't just give him a fat suitand say, explain it next, next time out
of nowhere. So,
I'm excited for for morethat and then also, it's done in here.
But, for those who are fans, thisI believe it's next month.

(54:04):
or end of April, we are going to get, knuckles, the TV show on Paramount Plus.
So those fans of that. That's right.
We get more and more Sonic, throughout the coming months.
Monarch legacy of monsters. Mike.
I don't know if you've caught this
on Apple TV plus yet, but the secondseason has been announced, for the show.
So they're working on that.

(54:25):
I'm I'm I'm a big fan for season.
It has no weight, overGodzilla, King Kong,
the new Empire movie that just came outlike there's no real connection there.
They made sure like,
you don't have to watch the TV showto understand the movie, and vice versa.
So that's pretty exciting.
But I'm excited for more of this, showcoming down the pipeline from Apple TV

(54:47):
as it. Yeah, it makes me angry.
I'm I'm kind of curious,
what is the long term strategyfor Godzilla here in the United States?
It seems like, Japan just kind of makeswhatever whenever they seem to be
maybe less obsessed
with turning something into, like, consistent, ongoing franchise.
And it's just like, well, let's just make cool Godzilla stuff.
Oh, no. Once in a. While.

(55:08):
No, no, no no, if you there are probably50 Godzilla films in Japan.
and they go through eras of studio, are they?
Yeah.
But what I'm trying to say is it isis it a consistent, connected universe?
Yes. It is interconnected characters. So silly. Yeah.
So there are, there are three,I think three areas of Godzilla right now.
We are not in one right now.
They do not have oneGodzilla minus one is a standalone.

(55:30):
And Shin Godzilla was was.
Well, those were actually the twothat I was thinking of.
But the two most recent,
kind of like critically acclaimed onesdon't really have ties, or it's not like
I've heard of a Shin Godzilla twoor Godzilla minus two, you know?
Right? Right.
And that's fine. But like.
But before those two,all they were were franchises.
They they put out a Godzilla movieevery year for like 15 years.

(55:53):
Take a break, then do another like ten.
because they woulddo like they have these,
I don'tknow if it's a studio or the director.
I don't know how they do it.
It's like the, the
like the shoto era and another one, theythey would just do this Godzilla versus
all these different enemiesand kind of like the, the American movies.
They were kind of serious.
And then they would get kind of,you know, more

(56:13):
fantastical because, like, you can't keep it serious the whole time.
But it's very much the opposite of the newto the Shin Godzilla
and the guys on my show.
But beforehand, they were very much a ten movie
franchise before they even, you know, took a brain on it.
I was about to say, could an American audience, withstand
this much onslaught of, Godzilla universe?

(56:36):
But then I think, oh,it's probably the same people
that are going to the Fastand Furious movies that'll just go see.
I just thinkKing Kong will do on the big screen.
I just, I don't know, I didn't
go see any Fast and Furious movies, but I will watch Godzilla versus Kong I
and so especially on Apple TVplus here, I think it's great.
And you brought this up in another chatearlier
this week is Apple TV plus is like scifi central on TV shows, right?

(56:56):
Like like they are known for all their scifi content.
Was that you brought that up this week?
no, but I kind of believe it like.
I. Have.
yeah, they have the, old kind of,
like, executive that used to run HBOover at Apple Plus right now.
So it's kind of like the home forjust a more, thought provoking content.

(57:19):
But this is mythis is a long way of, saying, like,
what's the endgame for Godzilla and King Kong?
You know, like,if the Apple Plus TV show takes off,
you know, we could have, like, five, six seasons.
Does that end upoutliving any sort of like,
mainline Godzilla King Kong moviesthat are going on?
I'm just kind of curious.
Like,it doesn't seem to be very organized.

(57:39):
Yeah, well, and that's the thing. Like,it's not one company making this right.
Like, Apple's making this. WarnerBrothers is making the other one.
was it, was it Netflix had that Kong
Skull Island animated showthat nobody watched last year?
every everybody legendary's licensingthis out like it's nobody's business.
However, legacy of monsters in the moviesdo have connected pieces,

(57:59):
but they don't have to.Like you don't have to be like,
oh, I've got to watch thesein order afterwards.
Legacy monsters can have more Titansand just Godzilla TV.
That's why it's not called Godzilla,
like monarch Legacy of Godzillaor Legacy of Kong.
They have other Titans in the showand the people there,
and it's really I get, I really,I think it's only gonna get maybe
three seasons because Apple TV+,they're not really

(58:21):
doing a lot of, what, 4 or 5 seasonslike Netflix is doing.
Like they're going about three perbefore they cancel.
So I imagine two more seasons.
But I think the show, the movie is making enough money.
It's doing some some box office stuff.
It's, you know, popcorn flicks.
I think we'll see a little bit more.
But we are probably do.
When, when did the first Gareth EdwardsGodzilla come out 2014 ish.

(58:44):
So right nowI think I'm a ten. Year sounds right.
So we're probably on a,
we're due
for a Godzilla rebootin probably five years, right?
29, 20, 29 I would say they're
they're going to be wrapped upwith this stuff and be like, all right,
we'll either take a break or take a ShinGodzilla approach.
If you will, which is a a remaster of kinds.

(59:06):
But if you're a fan of the legacy monsterslike I am, I love it.
It's on Apple TV. Plus, you're gonna get season two coming up.
Moving on.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesthis is the wildest news
I read all week, Mike.
And you got to tell me what you thinkhere, because this is just blow my mind.
A live action adaptation of The Last Ronin
graphic novel has been announced.

(59:27):
I never thought we'd see a live actionTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles again.
Like, after the 90s.
work they did with the animatronics, right?
an adaptation of The Last Ronin, which is one of the darkest,
most depressing stories in the TeenageMutant Ninja Turtles universe.
And this will be R-rated and existin Paramount's horror films division.

(59:48):
Wow. Well, Chris,I hate to break it to you,
but we are in a different era of liveaction turtles.
And if you were to Google, live actionTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
the first row of images
you're going to see are the Michael Bayexecutive produced films.
So the turtles of the 90s, you have to addthe extra search term of the 90s

(01:00:10):
to get to it.
So live action can mean somethinga little different nowadays.
So I.
Went right to the animatronicsbecause like, that's so much of.
And that would be cool.
I mean, like that'sthe audience that you're going for, right?
I feel like if you're doing
a rated R, Tmnt adaptation, but I mean, this is really, really cool.
I love this idea.
Super rad.

(01:00:30):
I mean, it feels like they knowthat the audience is there.
They can kind of like carve offlike this subgenre of going
like dark and gritty, you know, Deadpool'scoming back to the marketplace.
I'm sure it'sgoing to bring in a lot of money.
This will just be moreand more reinforcement for studios.
Jokertwo back into rated R. Yeah, exactly.
Lean back into your rated R content.

(01:00:51):
I still have the last Ronin bookjust sitting on my Amazon
wishlist, convincing myselfI'll buy it one day and read it.
so it seems like a really
cool story to add,but yeah, the live action sounds rad.
Yeah, it's ratedR are going to have tons of blood.
It sounds like, dismemberment by.
Turtle that that book is pretty gruesome.
So absolutely. Yeah, it's going to be and.

(01:01:12):
Also like that would that's somethingthat we don't really often get to witness
is just like they're massive fighters,like a, a turtle
the size of a human carriesa lot of mass and force and momentum.
Like, imagine that fighting like a humanbeing or like, you know, a normal ninja
like that would be super rad and like,
cathartic to kind of see that, actionplay out on screen.

(01:01:34):
Like, I'm almost kind of imaginingwhen Ben Affleck was Batman
and you got to see him, like,go toe to toe with some of those
that those like shrimpygoons occasionally, that times ten.
So I'm of course, I'm excited forthis is really cool.
In the fact that they explicitly sayit's in the horror film section means
they're going to kind of lean into that, right?
Like how it is,
it is not a happy ending storyat the end of the day, along the way.

(01:01:59):
And so I, I'm excited to see themlean into that.
Not necessarily it's horror, but like gore, body horror,
maybe, you know, stuff like that along the way.
Yeah. Now I'm not going to get too precious.
I think we're talking about
maybe some other paramount thingshere, coming up as well.
we do know it seems paramount seems to beactively trying to sell itself.

(01:02:19):
So if that ends up happening,
all of these things could be shelved, depending by whoever is, the new owner.
This could just all be a schemeto goose the selling price of, like, hey,
we have all of this stuff.
You got to pay more for usif you want to own us. Who knows?
Or maybe nobody wants to buy them
and they're just trying to make themselveslook more attractive.
Like, please, any offers.

(01:02:40):
So someone mentioned,I thought maybe it was this week,
maybe at this convention that the CEOor the president or something was like,
I knowyou probably heard about some stuff,
but we're here to make movies and,you know, support cinema.
So he's either
saying that we're not selling that.
Was this all rumorsor B it's not working out for us.
So we're here to here for the long haul, like you just mentioned.

(01:03:01):
So, I mean, that's exactly whatsomebody would say if they were trying to.
Touch the point out.
But they did announce a lot of stuff.
And not only Sonic the Hedgehogturtles, we're to talk.
Transformers one the movie, the animatedCG animated movie that's coming out later
this year, tells the origin story of howOptimus Prime and Megatron were buddies.
And then they were not buddiesall of a sudden, said voice of,

(01:03:22):
Chris Hemsworth is Optimus Prime.
oh my gosh,I can't think of the actor's name.
It was voicing Megatron.
ScarlettJohansson's in here is another character.
Like they got some A-list actorsto be voice actors in this movie for that,
they showed off a little clip of,like, the logo, but I'm like,
that's nothing like I don't needa transforming Transformers.

(01:03:43):
One logo is fine.
but it's still shootingfor a September release.
I'm going to see a trailer for this. Mike.
some I liked rise of the beast
as it was, but I was disappointed
because I really want to be like,I really want to be source.
They really shafted thison those characters.
So hopefullythis can give us some good stuff
because as we've talkedabout in animation,

(01:04:04):
CG animation, whatever, they can do morewith the characters, right?
We can see a lot more transforming
than if they're just doing itin a live action film. The whole way.
Another Michael Bay, franchisegetting more life here, if you will.
But, on top of all this, I mentioned G.I.
Joe at the top of the show, and you're like,
why, Chris, why are you talking to the the fine?
The actuality of Transformers G.I.

(01:04:25):
Joe crossoverfilm has been announced for Paramount.
Mike.
The live actionone, a sequel to rise of the beast
where It Ended, where they were like, call me if you want to join us.
And he gives him a card, and then he walksaway into the GI Joe Walker.
or base,if you will. That shows everything.
So the Transformers and the Joeswill be teaming up on this next movie.
Mike.

(01:04:45):
wow. So it wasn'tit wasn't just a veiled threat.
Yeah. Even though we've not had a G.I.
Joe origin film in this universe
yet, which would be great to havebefore we jump into this crossover.
But, you know, Transformers moviesare there billion there,
several billion dollar franchiseat this point?
G.I. Joe really hasn't come back.

(01:05:05):
you know, they tried those two movies, one with the Rock and one with,
I can't I mean, just like.
Just in anything.
Does G.I.
Joe have any cultural impactoutside of, like, toys, older generations?
I mean, yeah,I can't even think of like, is there like
a is there a new animated version of G.I.

(01:05:26):
Joe that's trying to get kids sucked in?
I didn't really GI Joeswere like a little two before my time.
So like, what are they just tryingto get like Gen X dollars here?
I don't really understandthe relevancy of G.I.
Joe anymore, but I mean, I mean, you own it.
I guess you got to go ahead and startusing it and, you know, synergize

(01:05:46):
it with Transformersis probably the best strategic decision.
Yeah, I'mlooking at it as a, an 83 TV series,
which is one that we know a movie in 87and a 1989 TV series, and that's about it.
so, so no, really, they'vejust been selling toys and, you know,
the, the, big pro-military push of the 70s

(01:06:06):
and 80s is not as,
prevalent as it is today.
So G.I. Joe is not there.
I mean, I know they sell a lot of toys.
Hasbro still releases a lot of toysfor that nostalgia factor.
But like, you know, I rememberwas the first movie where they made
the suits that let them run fastwith, Channing Tatum and whatever.
And then the second one was a little more,
you know, focus on, like, you know, actual, like,

(01:06:28):
military stuff and espionage, which is cool, but like,
yeah, like,I don't the only thing I can think of
when I think of GIJoe, Mike is pork chop sandwiches
because of those voiceoversof the animated show from 83.
That is true.
GI Joe to at leastour generation is just really a meme.
And I got to imagine to the generationyounger than us, they're like,
what is GI Joe? I don't understandwhat you're even talking. What?

(01:06:49):
What does that mean? What is GI?
What is it, GI Joe? Why?
Why is this even a thing so absolutely.
So maybe. Maybe they can use.
They can use us in by using Transformersfirst. right.
The people like, oh, Transformers.
I know what those are.
and then the introduce people to GI Joebefore they go.
I mean, you've talked me backaround, Mike.
You talked me out of an origin
because no one would watch it,and then this would be dead immediately.

(01:07:11):
so that is coming.
Well, we'll let you know more about this.
as Mike called it, threatas as we get closer to its release.
two, two things in space here.
We'll last one for Paramount is Star Trek.
They've announced a prequel movie.
is, officially in, I guess, probablyearly pre-production for a 2025 release.
This will be a prequel set, I think 40,

(01:07:33):
maybe 50 years before the 2009
Star Trek movie, which is the splitof the timelines of the movies.
If you remember the Kelvin timeline movie,so it won't have any of those actors.
it'll be, you know, maybe the history of, like, how Earth
got into Starfleet,I guess along those ways.
I don't know.
The great part about thisis it'll be directed by Tony Haynes,

(01:07:55):
who was directedepisodes of Doctor Who, Black Mirror and,
Andor as well some of the popular,
episodes of Andor.
So a lot of these Andor act, I guessproduction members the past few weeks
have been getting really good jobsalong the way, based on their work.
So I don't know what you dowith Star Trek, in my opinion.
I didn't grow up with Star Trek.

(01:08:17):
the the closest kind of connectionI have to it is probably the J.J.
Abrams movies, which I'm sure will send
shivers down the spines of, like, peopleI grew up with the next generation.
That was my first experience of Star Trek.
I literally,I missed all of the Star Trek shows,
all of the moviesuntil the 2009 movie myself.
So, like, I have no,

(01:08:38):
don't a star I have.
No, I'm not precious about this property,as we've talked about before, right?
Neither of us are like, oh, Star Trek,we have to protect Star Trek.
I'm like, no. Yeah,do what you want with it.
Yeah.
And that's really just been leftout on a vine to kind of rot, right?
I mean, thatwhen those movies were coming out,
that was like Chris Pine at his, like, heights, right?
I mean, he was and kind of stillis the one of the Hollywood Chris.

(01:09:04):
Right.
So, and there was all this
talked about like a possible, like,Tarantino version of the movie.
And then that third installment came out, like, really far after the second one.
And people were kind of confusedwhat they were even supposed to be.
Oh, wow.
So I don't know. The second one.
I know what you do.
The second one got panned horribly right, even though it's got a great cast.
Benedict Cumberbatch, J.J.

(01:09:25):
Abrams couldn't write an original script.
It's like he couldn't
save a remake of Wrath of Khanand save his life in that situation.
and it was so badly panned. They, they got gun shy.
Then they did. The third one had IdrisElba in it that came back.
It made some money, got some good critic reaction,
but they've just done nothingwith the movies, right? For a while.
Then they've been making TV shows,
discoveryand what was it, Lower decks and oh.

(01:09:46):
There's so I think there's like fivedifferent Star Trek shows on Paramount.
And a lot of those.
Them, but a lot of them are wrapping up. Right.
So a lot of those have runtheir five season arcs or do wrapping
things up, brave new worlds, you know, is is taking off.
So like,it is like they need to do something
with the movies, get them back in the cinema.
But is a prequel the answer?
Like, why is that always the first thingpeople jump to, right?

(01:10:09):
Like why not?
You've already provenyou can do split timelines.
You've got different.
you know, TV shows going on herelike they've
they never shied awayfrom taking the next generation
of the original castand putting them in a movie like,
give us a Star Trek movie that maybe tiesall of us in together at some point.
I don't, I don't know,but a prequel to me is not the answer.

(01:10:29):
My first answerto solve a problem of like, what do we do?
How do we make Star Trek four?
We go back and make Star Trek Zero.
Mike at the.
I, I, I do like the idea of maybe,
looking at the origin of Starfleet, maybe a little bit more.
Because to me,I think that's very interesting.
You know,
we kind of take it for granted
when you get dropped into a Star Trekuniverse that everything's a utopia

(01:10:50):
and there's like a 3D printerthat can make you anything that you want.
And there's teleportation, like, bekind of ready to go back in no time before
maybe some of that stuff didn't existor they just started inventing it.
What are the ramifications of all of it?
You know, that'd becomethat'd be kind of fun.
It is different in that regard,I think. I think you're right.
There is a different expectationsof the characters in society.

(01:11:11):
Maybe we open up to this, but at the same time I'm like,
what if it's already there? We already know it.
You don't have to explain it to us.We don't need to reason.
Just move forward.I think we're gonna get a lot.
I think we're gonna get a lot
of explanations in this prequel movieof how things work in the universe. So,
It's fine.
They got a good team.
Star Trek needs to come back to cinema,so I'm all for it.

(01:11:33):
Lastly, Star Wars news Mike, Star Tours, one of my favorite rides
and Star Wars has been my favorite ridefor 20 years, if not more.
since they put it in there.
yeah, they have star tours at California.
Play some of that Star Wars.
Yeah, they do, they do. Cool.
so there are new updates to Star Tours, including The Mandalorian, within journey.
Grogu, you, from Ahsoka, including Ahsoka, and then Cassian Andor from the Andor

(01:11:57):
show as well.
They're putting in little,
little sections of the ridethat let you do that on Star Tours now,
so you never knowwhich one of those you're going to get.
That ride still still holds up.
You know, we have the opportunity
to go to, Disneyland a lot morebecause we are right next to it.
So we get a chance to go.
And I routinely can riderise of the resistance, Millennium Falcon,

(01:12:19):
Smuggler's Run and Star Tours, which is ina totally different part of the park.
And honestly, I think Star Tours ismy favorite Star Wars ride at the park.
Even though it's it's way less expensive.
There's no, you know, trackless, moving, super sophisticated car moving around.
They just dialed everything in so well.

(01:12:39):
All the show effects work so good.
There's like a physical moving C-3poin the front of the car.
Yeah, there's like, there's like a video screen in the corner
that takes a picture of somebody in there.
Oh, they're the spy.You gotta look out for them.
And the car is just synced perfectlyto the video in front of you.
And any,any seat I've ever sat in inside of that

(01:12:59):
just it workslike the, the 3D perspective.
It just it all is astonishing.
And I and I get a little motion sicknessjust a little bit at the end of it
every time.
But it's like it'salways like totally worth it.
So that's all right. I will walk out ofand then walk back in.
If there's no line,
I will literally do thisbecause Star Tours is such a unique thing.
There's usually about three sectionsper ride

(01:13:22):
and you don't knowwhat you're going to get right.
They always mix and match the section,so it's like a randomize roll the die.
Any time you get on Star Tours.
So, addingthese new ones is going to be great.
It's going to really modernize them.
I think it's a it'sa great selection of characters as well.
They did say that Ahsoka and Cassie Andorare played by the respective actors, but,
Din Djarin, is a soundalike, which was disappointing, I heard, because

(01:13:46):
literally he he's you could justget into recorded on his phone and play.
Yeah, exactly.
Because you're just going to be likeprocessing it or something, but, yeah,
yeah, I guess, I guess maybe he was busymaking The Last of Us, too.
Yeah, that are fantastic for castingwhatever, whatever it is he's doing.
But the last part
this is, they could be teasing heirto the Empire parts because I think,

(01:14:06):
maybe it was a Sokka or didn'tor The Mandalorian did here
and says, like, you know, there's,something something's brewing, a war
brewing or something that I thinkis teasing to the heir to the Empire.
cool.
if not, I don't think I need togo write Star tours to get a,
you know, afeeling for what that movie's going to be.
If it's aif it's a little sneak peek, great.
But, you know, a little a little linein, Star Wars, right?

(01:14:29):
There's always war brewing and Star Wars.
That's why it's called Star Wars, right?
There's always war on the horizon.
so for that. But I, I love it again.
I think that's one of those ridesyou mentioned.
It was dialed in.
It feels like the original trilogy come tolife, right when you get on a ride.
And I think that's just the somethingso perfect about it.
So I agree.

(01:14:49):
