(00:22):
Hello, everyone, and welcome to Superhero
Slate, the show we run down the latestsuperhero entertainment news.
We love TV, movies and superheroes.
So let's talk it all out.My name is Chris.
And my name is Patrick.
And this week, we're getting a betterlook at that revamped Daredevil series.
We're going to talk about all sortsof Marvel TV stuff, so it's exciting.

(00:44):
Nicolas Cage, one of our,
I would say one of the most, wild card actors in Hollywood
these days is going to returnto his Spider-Man noir role.
And we'll talk about what that means forfor the INS Amazon later in the episode.
the first DCUcrossover character is confirmed.
We have details on who that isand what their role is.

(01:06):
You're right. We already know who it is.And we've talked about before.
We've got confirmation and more.
so, thank you, Patrick.
As people, you know, we do have Michaels.
We have Patrick.
Patrick, thank you for jumping on the showwith me this week.
We're excited to be here, man.
Taking over for Mike permanently.
Permanently. Oh my God. Yeah.
It's, Then strong, strong wordsright out the gate here.

(01:29):
It's a it's a coup.
It is. It is very much so.
what's he going to do about it?
Nothing. He he's not even here. Not here to defend himself.
So it's
I mean, he's in
even when he does defend himself, he'sgoing to do it with a baby in his arms.
And man, I mean, I can.
So he's going to be an arm down.I can take him.
Oh yeah.
I mean I mean, you as a parent, you know you've got two up on him.
So you're like,I've got this already down.

(01:49):
I know how to handle this.
He's,he's he's just a rookie at this point.
So, that's that'skind of what it comes down to.
But yes. Yes. Thank you for doing it.
you know, for those who may or may not know.
Well, so how long ago was it?
We had a short lived podcast, Patrick.
like, 2016, 2017, almost like,
about movies, but,

(02:10):
but yeah, Patrick listens, every week.
he also is one of the few people who willtell me thank you for the show notes,
because he can skip aroundon the time codes, you know?
So I try to keep up working.
Yeah, absolutely.
And, you know, for that, you know, you didn't text me last week,
and I want to revisit thisbecause I think,
you know, I've,I've we've talked about it off

(02:30):
quite a bit,but you know, we, you know, we were,
mourning the loss, slash celebratingthe life of Roger Corman last week.
Right.
And it was in the news, for usbecause, you know, he was a producer
on the non released Fantastic Four movie, which is I think it's even on YouTube.
You can watch it, you know,
but you can find it placesto watch that very difficult.
But, you know, I know you mighthe didn't wasn't as familiar.

(02:54):
He kind of started with thethe more recent stuff he produced
went backwards.
But, you know, we took bad films together.
That was my first introduction.
Roger Corman and you,we talked about doing,
on the show and talking about Bucketof Blood, Little Shop of Horrors.
But, you wanted to bring up some, some more information about him and his,
I guess, effect, especially on the filmindustry as it is today

(03:15):
and who he was able to help, bring up the ranks of filmmaking.
Yeah, man,I just feel like we owe a lot to him.
Like. Yeah, solely he.
I think he jumpedthe movie industry forward.
but all by himself.
Now, youcan say that, through his credits on IMDb,

(03:36):
maybe that doesn't show up.
although he's probably more known
for his producer creditsthan his directorial credits.
but he influenced
so many people in Hollywood,
just purely by how he like to do things.
I sincerely believe thatlike independent movies and horror films

(03:59):
would not be in the positionthat they are, in Hollywood.
both,
from like a quality standpoint
and from a, material gains standpoint
without his, without his influence.
because the way he likes to make movies

(04:20):
and, the way he was able
to get the most out of his cast and crew,
and time on set, was legendary.
and I think a lot of,especially horror movies use these same
sort of principles today, like, when we talk about percentage of,

(04:42):
like, gross profit,
you know, the moviesthat are making the most money
aren't the ones that we you guys
typically talk about on this show.
you know, these big Hollywood,
massive Marvel films and stuff.
And I know those are the moviesthat we that we love, but,

(05:02):
the ones that are making the most grossprofit in terms of percentage are these
these horror movies that are shotover the course of ten days and two weeks
or, you know, nowadays, I guessit's probably closer to like a month
or a month and a half.
But these, these smaller productions,
and all of that was influenced by, by himand the way he like to do movies.

(05:23):
Not only that, but I think ifMike would go back, he would,
see that a lot of,
the movies that he enjoys,
the action movies outside of,
superhero movies are heavily, heavily
influenced by Roger Corman.
not only did he do the originalsof some of these movies, like,

(05:46):
eitherdirecting or producing like Death Race
or The Fast and the furious, the original fast and the furious,
I believe, was in 19, late 1950s,
maybe early 60s movies that he wrote,
you know, Piranha, the original Piranha.
so and not only that, but he took a lot of,

(06:07):
these movies are availableon, YouTube and Amazon Prime.
He had a bunch of early 60s features,
with Vincent Price that are really,I think, really good for the time,
that are based, off of Edgar Allan Poe.
yeah. Novels.

(06:28):
I mean, I think they all have some, you know, like, varying level of quality,
but you can get you can get good thingsout of out of all of them.
Not to mention like the the peoplethat he brought directly into the industry
or that he directly influenced, like,James Cameron.
James Cameron's, former wife.
her name is alluding me,but there was a very famous producer,

(06:51):
Scorsese.
He, obviously you talked about JackNicholson last week.
All right.
Ron Howard, Francis Ford Coppola.
Robert De Niro gave him his break.
yeah, I just, I, I didn't I didn't feellike you were doing him dirty.
I just don't think that there'sI think there's a lot of things that we

(07:11):
know that we need to know from him, that you can't just learn from an
I and web page, I guess. Well, absolutely.
And I think, you know, in, in context of,of the show, I think for, for superhero
movies, he I know, I think the directfirst thing has been absolutely.
You can't understate that.
I, I will also say, you
know, as a, as a producer,I did look at like he is, handled.
I was in the US as a producer,

(07:33):
the distributionfor like a lot of foreign, director films.
Yeah, yeah.
AkiraKurosawa films and Ingmar Bergman films.
So he, his hands, weren't just like, oh,he made bad movies
cheap and quick and, and, you know, they, they gained cult status, which they did.
But he as the film industry, he broughta lot of people up with him around him.

(07:55):
Yeah, I think I think even, the Italian, that Italian director,
Fellini, I think he brought some of hismovies in too, if I remember correctly.
Yeah. Anyway, just.
Yeah,he he was a film man his entire life.
And I think the film industry owes hima lot more.
That's. Yeah.

(08:16):
That's all. Yeah, absolutely.
And to have a full life, you know, at98 years old, that's great for him, right?
I think that's always, you know,it's it is, you know, sad we lost him.
But again, celebrating his lifeand successes along with him is super,
super important.
the other thingI was going to kind of touch on last week,
I think I just barely had gotten to play.

(08:36):
The Marvel rivals closedAlpha Test last week, but.
Oh, yeah.
I want to hear about.
This, but, we've I've been ableto play every night this week because it
ends, the 20th,which I think is tomorrow, like midnight.
But I've been playing with,
the way the game works is.
So I got to close off code.
And then after I hit level sixevery day at 8 p.m., I can, I can get, I,
you get a codethat I can give to a friend.

(08:57):
And I gave it to a friend of ours, Lonny.
And then, you know, the the essentiallythe waterfall of codes have gone through
essentially our mutual friend list ofof people I've been playing with all week.
But, it's been really fun.
This game is for a closed alpha gameand was like, well, it's a beta.
I'm like setting this before baited.
So there's like 19 characters
and they're all very uniquekind of archetypes of things.

(09:19):
If you played Overwatch, which I think, you said you had.
So, you know, there's push, push the cartor stop the cart, push
or capture the points.
Very basic, you know, really fun.
But like,I love this game because, you know,
they've really hit a couple thingson that.
Number one, the art style, all the characters don't look like
they're MCU counterpartsor like their comic book counterparts.

(09:40):
They really were able to leaninto a distinct look for the characters,
along the way.
But with that,
when you're just kind of in the room
waiting for the game to start with, the other characters, the any
any characters, two characters, sometimes three will have unique dialog
based on, like their history togetheror like things that you've done.
Like if you're playing Magnetoand you have Scarlet Witch

(10:00):
and, you know, in the comic books, that's that's Magneto's daughter, right?
Kind of thing.
So they have some conversationsabout that.
Or there's a, character called Luna Snow.
she's relatively new, createdlike 2018 for Marvel Future, right?
She has, she's a pop star in the MCU,Korean pop star.
And she has conversation with Iron Manabout who's more popular and who's more.

(10:21):
You're rich based on that kind of stuff.
So adding those like flavor dialogs alongthe way has really just kind of made
the characters come to liferather than like,
oh, I'm just playing Overwatchwith Marvel Skins.
There is that character building that, you know, I and I used to be known for it
really well, but I don't know, I've notplayed enough Overwatch two to really,
it's interesting that they've broughtsome of that forward or not,

(10:43):
but it's been really fun toto play and do that with.
And I have literally I'm not a PC gamer.
I have a, you know, I'm a mac user.
I have my Steam Deck, but I have a arcadecomputer that's been running this.
I've been remoting it on to my Mac,so I've been like accessing it remotely
so I can play the game with my controller.
Because I'm a controller boy, I can'tI can't go back to mouse and keyboard.

(11:04):
Patrick. It'sjust it's it's too tough for me.
Yeah, I've I've come a long way, but.
I would definitely have a hard timeat this point
going back to the mouseand keyboard as well.
Yeah.
but yeah, it's been fun.
It's great when you have, like, you know, your teammates
and you know, you're able to communicatewith everyone.
I think at one point we had four, maybefive people on one team together,
in one chat.
So I thinkthat's where things can come to life.

(11:26):
I really have a lot of fun playing.
I think last week it's in Scarlet, which is a really fun character.
I came to, enjoy, Penny Parker,
and I don't know if you remember her from, into the Spider-Verse.
The first one,
she'sthe one who controls the robot spider.
Oh, sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So she's one of the characters, and she's like a tanky character.
And it's really fun to play as her.

(11:47):
And she's got a little spider dronesand little, little spider bots
helping you out.
So I really enjoy playing that, that character as well.
but did you have any questions on it?Yeah.
Yeah for sure.
so first of all, back to what you weresaying originally, the these,
these voice lines, are they like while you're in combat
or they like in the menus.
Or so when you get into the game, like youthere's like a time period before

(12:11):
the game starts, like a 32nd to like,I don't know if it loads.
Everything in herejust gets everyone together.
when you're in that little holding areawith your characters,
that's where the conversations happen.
Sure. Okay. That's fun.
Yeah. Oh,you say it would be. It would be really?
I don't know, kind of random and hectic
if it was happening while you're shootingat another character or something.
Yeah.

(12:31):
And they will say like, you know, they have like Battlestar for like,
you know, like, you know, there's a punch.
So I think I remember someone saying,
you know, Punisher's over thereor something like that.
They will call out othercharacters as well.
when you when you like, you see, like enemy characters.
So they have that.
But like, yeah, they don't have the full on, like,
deep, meaningful conversations in battle.
Gotcha. What are the maps based off of?

(12:52):
Like, are they based off of popularMCU locations or so?
Yeah, there's two maps so far.
the first is called Eggs Guard,so it's a mixture of aggressively
and Asgard, some world tree and Asgard.
So it's very, Asgardian based,if you will.
And the other one is, a,

(13:12):
it's like a, I don't know, the name.
It's like a future Tokyo, like, like Tokyo2099, but it's based on, like, you know,
that's where the spider, it's it'sa spider man map.
So it's a, I think Tokyo 2099.
This one's based on. Oh, okay.
Yeah.
They could
they could do some really interestingthings with those environments.
pretty easily.

(13:32):
I mean, and that would adda lot of character to the game.
I feel like.
What's cool about that is also like, they, they can,
mention is that there's two Doctor Dooms, fighting for like, different time,
you know, timelines, and like, that's why you have X guard.
It's like a mixture of, like, two of the world.
So, like, if they wanted to,
you know, blend things together, that would be really fun, right?

(13:53):
To make their own levels in that regard.
The environment interactable in anyway.
yeah. You can climb.
well, I guess I don't interact.
Well, you can climb, but it's destructible.
The game actually has destructibleenvironments, so.
Sure, you can blow through walls in Asgard. The,
the, it'llheal itself after a certain time point.
Like the lore is that Loki is the god ofKingsguard, and he has magic to like.

(14:18):
You know, he wants to look pristine.
So if it's damaged or broken or whatever,it comes back, it
responds in essentially based on his magicafter a certain time.
And then I believe in Tokyo, some of itresponds, but I don't think a lot of it.
I feel like if it fell down in Tokyo,it stayed down in Tokyo.
So, that doesn't have that kind of stuff,
but the environments are more destructiblethan I anticipated overall.

(14:41):
Oh, okay, I can't remember.
I with the destructible environments, are you able to create like new paths
for the for the cartor is it always in the same the.
Cart paths in the same direction?
But you can get to the car or maybe like,
kind of sneak around on peopleor find like a shortcut of your own.
by doing that, there's one.

(15:02):
And Asgard, that's the mapthat you can just control the points.
Like whoever's holding thethe points longest wins.
And, there's a door and it's closed off,
but you can blow through the doorand, like, come up underneath everybody.
and but like, when, when raisesor respawns the map, it comes back.
So like, you have to blow through itevery time.
But like,it is a fun little thing to have,

(15:24):
like a little quote unquote secretpath and everyone's going up and over.
You can go downand around them a little bit. Nice.
Yeah, yeah, it sounds like a blast.
Yeah, it's been fun.
I mean, again, it's it's very close Alpha.
It's very early, but like,
it seems really polished from like a gamepoint gameplay point of view.
So, I'm very excited.
I know a bunch of data leakers have minedat least 20 more

(15:44):
characters are in the code, or at least, you know, have been in the works.
So that'll probably launch with 39,40 characters.
The, battle pass.
You're familiar with battle passes, right?
in this, it's got a very characterbased battle pass with the character
called Galactica, which is the daughter of Galactus.
And she had, like a small comicbook in like 20 tens is very,

(16:06):
you know, for lack ofand this is like something you would see
in like an animeand like Korea kind of thing.
Like it's very leans into the humor of it.It's not really.
Galactus daughter is like a teenage girlwith a Galactus helmet on, right,
kind of thing.
And but, you know, she, as you go throughthe battle pass, you get different pages.
There's like a whole page of hertelling you what the world is
and what's going on. And, like, you know what Galactus is doing.

(16:28):
Like, it's really
it adds more to a battle passand just check and boxes along the way.
Right.
There's some actual story pointsthat break that up really well,
which which was fun.
No. So, yeah,I'm having a good time with it.
I'm excited. Play some more tonightand tomorrow before it ends.
And then goprobably back in the Diablo four.
Finally launch a new season for that week.

(16:48):
I like a good Diablo four,so we'll do that.
But, yeah.
if you're ready,
let's jump into the the show notesif you if that's okay with me, man.
So, first and foremost,
I told you literallyI put this in here while we were talking.
getting ready for the show is Deadpool.
Wolverine has announcedthat tickets go on sale tomorrow.

(17:09):
for this and usually, if I.
My guesses are correct, and sometimes or not.
But most of the time,if tickets are going on sale.
What does that mean?
This is trailer.
New trailer.
Yeah.
So I'm going to guess there'sprobably going to be a trailer tomorrow.
for this.
And again, this is when I went to seewhat was the last movie.
Was it the Marvel's was, I believe, was the last movie, out.

(17:31):
normally I buy a bunch of ticketsfor a bunch of people,
my friends and familylocally, me all, you know,
try to get togetherbecause they, they're like,
oh, when two tickets go on sale,Chris knows he'll just get in for us.
And the Marvel's.We did not do that, though.
A lot of people, you know, just didn't,you know, have it to go out and see that.
But Deadpool, Wolverine, the power, house
that is Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackmanthe only Marvel movie out.

(17:53):
I assume the marketing forthis is going to really,
really ramp up starting tomorrow. And,
kind of kind of get there.
So I was like, I told my wife, I'm like, hey, how many, how many tickets do I need?
Tell me who I need to buy tickets for
for this, becauseit's going to be going to be a good time.
So, I'm pretty excited.
any thoughts on this?
How have you been feeling about thetrailers and footage so far for the show?

(18:13):
I just don't want to watch too much.
I mean, just because you guys have beentalking so much about how there's,
you know, going to be cameos like crazy.
It looks like they're doing,
either world jumping or,you know, that sort of thing.
So I, I really feel like the
Deadpool to me,

(18:34):
is, you know,
good percentage about the humor as it is,I'm sure, for a lot of people and,
you know, the the way that you go intoor at least the way I like
to go into a comedy movie is to not haveall the punch lines spoiled for me.
So I really feel like, I don't want to seemany any more trailers I'm already in.

(18:56):
So yeah.
Yeah.
So I think one of the cool thingsand we've said this about Deadpool is,
you know, Ryan Reynolds,he's he's a marketing guy.
He runs a marketing company.
I would think they would like, recordspecial lines
for trailers that they wouldn'tthen put in the movie.
Right? Like,
or like, you know, we've got to make a clean edit
because it's an R-rated moviekind of thing.
So we'll record something different.
So I wouldn't be surprisedif some of the trailers, stuff

(19:18):
that we see in the trailer doesn't make itin there because it's just voiceover.
you know, do you know.
If they do that for the original?
Oh yeah.
There's stuffthere's some stuff in the original ones
that didn't make it inthe first two at least.
probably morethe second than the first two.
with that, I,
I mean, I know, like I said, there'sso many rumors about this
and whether there's, there'sactually dozens of cameos or not.

(19:39):
There's just so many rumors about this.
I would love to go in and still besurprised the they right like that.
Is that is it.
And and yeah, it's more of a comedy.
It's got some action stuff.
The action scenes would probably be,you know, fairly good, but it is.
It is about the camaraderie, the connection, the, the two.
I guess opposite Marvel characterskind of teaming up here
going downa will be, will be, will be fun.

(20:01):
So, yeah, I expectprobably see a little trailer tomorrow,
but I'm going to be buying my ticketsfirst thing.
try to get that that opening day,I, I also feel like this is going
to be one of those movies
that it
since it is the only Marvel movie, there might be some early,
preview screenings, going on maybelike a week or two weeks ahead of time.
or was it those sort with his fan events?
They do occasionally.

(20:22):
Yeah.
You can get tickets for.
So, keep your eyes openif you want to do that.
If you want to go ahead and get ticketsearly, lock it in.
tomorrow is going to be your chanceto do so.
There is some sort of televisionevent this weekend.
Mike and I are not Mike Patrick.
I don't know what it was,and yeah, I sorry, I have it,
but I don't know what it was,but we have a lot of Marvel Television
news coming out.
Like Brad Winderbaum, one of the, you know, heads of

(20:45):
Marvel TV, is was out doing stuff.
And like, they kind of showed off
that the Marvel Televisionlogo slash brand has been reborn,
for for the MCU
series on Disney Plus, which is interesting.
And, if you may remember,Marvel Television was run by Jeph Loeb.
Whenever they did agents of Shield, everyone's favorite Inhumans

(21:09):
show that they even debuted in Imax,if you remember.
I mean my favorite for sure. Yeah.
but it did lead intosome of the better stuff with, Daredevil
Jessica Jones, you know, theThe Defenders series as well.
So they have brought that bringing backand it will live alongside
Marvel Studios, which is the movie portion,

(21:29):
Marvel Television and Marvel Animation, which we've seen lately with, I don't,
I don't know how much, I know you saidyou've not seen all of X-Men 97 yet,
but like, the what if stuff, they've beenusing that Marvel Animation Studios logo.
So yeah, I watch all the I've seen all thewhat if stuff.
So, yeah, I mean, I, I've really enjoyedthe different animation styles for sure,

(21:51):
even if I'm not interestedin the plotlines of different episodes.
Yeah.
And the cool thing about thisat the end of the day
is for Marvel Television, for me, is likeit shows that they're giving it its own,
like, I guess department. Right?
Like its own focus it the TV shows aren'tjust a part of Marvel Studios anymore.
television will get its own,I guess people running it.
And we got that promise last yearwhen they retooled, Daredevil and.

(22:14):
Right.
And then kind of,you know, parted ways with the writers
and everything and started like,we're not going to film,
we're going to scrap or keep what we canscrap what's not working and start over.
And then this feels likethe first official step in that direction.
Now that that's kind of out thereor they're getting ready for it.
Yeah, I mean, frankly, man,
there's there's a
lot of stuffthat is not working with television.

(22:36):
And I think I think they neededto make and stuff like that because,
I mean, even even for big fans of the property,
that there have been a lot of misseswith Marvel TV.
and, I mean, very few,
very few, like event
shows where people from outsideof the zeitgeist, outside of the MCU

(22:58):
fan base, are like,I got to go watch that show.
you know, because there's there are TVshows all over the place
that occasionally drag in peoplethat wouldn't normally,
wouldn't normally watch something like,
oh, I'm not a fan of cooking shows, but I hear this.
The bear is really good, you know, that sort of thing.
the Marvel just hasn't had many,if any of those.

(23:19):
I mean, Loki, and that might be.
One, I think WandaVision and Loki.
Oh, WandaVision.
Yeah.
Yeah, like like if we gotta go back
a little bit further, but like,I think one of the Vision
Loki were the two that everyone's like,I, you have to watch them, right?
Kind of thing.
That's the ones that kind of brokethrough a little bit. Yep.
And I,I feel like I feel like sometimes there's,

(23:40):
there's too much concernor too, too much influence or too much,
thought going into or how does thisinfluence the MCU as a whole?
instead of
just like, let's,let's try to make a good show and then
and then worry about the rest of that, maybe a little bit later.
Yeah. I don't know. Well, no, no.

(24:00):
So I yeah, you're rightbecause if they do this
and they pull Marvel Television down, like we can just make good TV shows
with peoplewho know how to make TV shows. Right.
I think to your, to your point
or anything that was goodbefore they didn't know how to do what
they were trying to run itlike a movie. Right.
Like and we even talked about,
oh, we're goingto we'll the fix the TV show and post.
That's not how TV works.
throw. Money at. It. Yeah.

(24:22):
Like, oh, we don't need to go backand film anything else.
We'll just we'll just make the edits work.
And that's not how TV works at all.
So I think, you know, this is a good to me.
This is a good thing. Right?
I'm a happy in to yourI get to your point.
You make something goodthat's not connected to the larger events.
X-Men 97 I know you haven't watched it,but I mean, I'm sure you've heard
word around it, right? Like.

(24:43):
Oh, yeah, for sure.
It doesn't connect to the MCU.
It's literally a continuation of the 90sX-Men cartoon.
But they made it goodbecause they, you know,
they don't have to connect everything.
You don't have to worry about therepercussions of the live action movies.
Yeah.
And I mean, I don't know, TVis a is a busy space nowadays, man.
And so it's almost like there'sthere's more.

(25:05):
Well, not almost there is more competition
for TV, for TV eyeballs than there is for,
you know,
going to, you know, hey, it'sraining out today.
I'm going to go spend 2.5 hours at a movie
theater and and watch a movie,
or, you know,

(25:25):
stream one on demand there.
There's peopledon't want to get invested in a show
if they hear, oh, yeah, it's okay.
because at a minimum, you're talking about,
you know, eight hours of attention, you know,
up to 15, 20 hours of attention.
So, I think, yeah, I think there's

(25:46):
a lot more competition out there, and there's a lot more,
there's, people are turned awaya lot easier, I guess.
I have, I, you know, I know what,I can watch a movie anytime
I put them on a movie, I have a hard timecommitting to television shows
because that's how.
That's how I am, right?
Like, yeah, I don't enjoy a binge model.
I don't like just sitting still

(26:06):
and binging thingsfor, for, like just taking it all in.
so it's very kind of hard for meto, to get into TV shows sometimes.
So I agree with you.
Like, it's got to be
it's got to be really enticingfor me to sit down and watch it.
All right, like fall out. Like,I was kind of concerned with fallout.
I was like, man,
I don't
do I want to sit down and watch this, but what do I want to do?

(26:27):
Like, I'm not, you know, I haven't playedall the fallout games, but,
yeah, we were able to to I was ableto kind of get on board with that.
So, I, I agree, there's just a lot of television shows
and all thingsI think I got to point at the binge.
It also depends on the release model.Right.
Like if you like do an Amazon approachwhere you just drop it all, you know,
some, some of the stuff all at once, like, like, you know, the boys in fallout,

(26:50):
you know, is that is that betteror is that worse than trying to do weekly?
Because you never knowif that can help, you know,
if the show is going to be goodor not at the end of the day. So.
Yeah, I mean, not to be pedantic, butI don't think the boys did all at once.
Well, they dropped the first three and you're
right, it's mostlylike they dropped the first three.
But I think, and I and I apologize, but Amazon is very,

(27:11):
they, they go back and forth onand on their shows.
I think Netflix I would say
is probably more consistent, dropping everything all at once.
I think it was Bridgerton seasonthree dropped this weekend.
not that I watch Bridgertonby any means, folks, so don't come at me.
I just, I it's just like when they dropa show, you see everything about it.
Like all the minions, like, you know.

(27:31):
Oh, we watched it all this weekand I'm like, good Lord, it's,
it's a lot of stuff.
And now we're transitioninginto becoming a Bridgerton podcast.
That's right.
well,
the the only thing
I wish Netflix dropped all at oncesome days was a great British baking show.
All right. No kidding.
Right. Like that's the showI'd binge in a heartbeat.
I know that's that's because I would come, when, you know, we come visit

(27:52):
you and we would just sit downand for a whole weekend, we would
we would gamble on who's going to win,and we would maybe
take breaks and bake stuff.
Yeah, yeah, make our own snacksalong the way for the show.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's that's, But I'm biased.
I'm biased.
moving in Daredevil Born Again,
I think would be the biggest newsout of this event that happened.

(28:14):
And we have a new icon slash logoand a release date confirmation
of releasing of March 2025,which would be just shy of ten years
of whenever Daredevil dropped on, Netflix.
which was, I think April 23rd, 2015.
But, I like, this this this image here isthere's not a lot to give away here,

(28:37):
but you see Charlie Coxand missing it off real on stage.
But I love the cityscapeunder the word daredevil.
it's that's just it's so simple.
There's nothing hereto read into it, really.
But I just like that cityscape underneath.
Yeah, it's it's a cool logo.
I also like the,the subhead of, like, Born Again.
I think that's, I think that,

(29:00):
to what we were just talking
about that that almost speaksto Marvel Television as a whole.
So I, I don't know, I feel like
it's talking aboutmore than just Daredevil.
they're like,it's the whole ethos of Marvel
Television, like, born againsort of thing.
Yeah. And then also. Too much into it. Yeah.

(29:21):
Well, no, you're right, I think thatand then it's also brought forward
from Netflix. Right. Like you know.
Right.
It's it's there's multiple meaningsbehind a born again.
There's also a comic book series for him.
oh. Because so like it's all, it'sall it's firing on all cylinders.
Right.
That's, say what you willabout the content of Marvel shows.
They, they picked the best titleswhen they're putting them out there.

(29:45):
case in point, Secret invasion.
Awesome title.
Shitty show I've ever watched that.
so we never fought against getting itright.
with this,it's also confirmed to be reduced
to nine episodesrather than 18 out the gate.
and the running discussionis that the season
two would be the next nine episodes.

(30:05):
So they they've hired everyone for 18.
We'll do nine now, nine later.
And I think that's a muchmore digestible amount of Daredevil.
So they dothey already complete filming for both.
just the first night.
Just the first night. Okay.
and that's the way to do it, thank God,because, you know, you can get that
feedback and, you know, work on the workon season two a little bit.

(30:26):
and they went ahead to kind of, they, they showed footage
and I don't have the footage here, but it did confirm,
you know, returning charactersthat we talked about Matt Murdock,
Foggy Nelson, Karen Page and Wilsonfirst set kingpin.
So like the main, the big four fromthe Netflix series are coming back.
And this seems to be very, very aligned with a continuation,
of that show in in partsthey probably not taking like, hey,

(30:49):
you know, there's dragon bones under the city,
but you I'll take whatI can get at this point for that.
but yeah, you know, take you guysand take a look at that,
that image in the, in the shownotes there.
And then moving on was another show.
We've talked about this kind of briefly, over the past couple,
I guess years now, with no real confirmation.
Is that the Ironheart TV show?

(31:10):
Right.
The spinoff of,
it will be a spinoff of Black PantherWakanda Forever.
but Riri Williams at the show, they started filming this a while ago,
and, they did, you know, show off a again,
a new logo for this, which is pretty, pretty close with the rest of it.
Looks like my image link is broken here,so I apologize.

(31:31):
Oh, works for me.
Okay, cool, because it's not working for me.
Theregoes. though. Yeah, they're so Ironheart.
So, she is a characterfrom the comic books who essentially
was a kid who took up the Iron Man.
Meant a lot to ironman, was killed in the comic books,
and obviously in comic books.
He's. But he's back live now.
but this one, you see, I don't knowthe actor's name, and I apologize,
but Perry Williams and Anthony Ramos, as,I think the villain, the hood,

(31:56):
the character called the hood, nextto story here on this image as well.
And they did show some footage
and it, you know, itkind of just the description of it.
It's like she's stealing partswhile she's at MIT
to build her early suits, which we kind ofgot a little bit of a hint at in,
we kind of forever,
she gets expelledfor doing all this stuff, trying to build
a, you know, I'm in suits, but later shots.
So the, her final Ironheart suit in actionnow, I don't know,

(32:20):
they did not confirm if it was the onefrom Wakanda Forever or a different one.
And on set, we saw some bigger ones.
seen in models, a couple of years ago.
But obviously, as he shows, adapt, evolveand get kind of put
under Marvel Television's banner,I could see this changing as well.
Right. So this is essentially a prequel.
I think it's a both

(32:41):
I think it's aI think it's like describes who she is
and how she got on the radarfor Wakanda Forever,
but then also like afterwardswhere she has like maybe her
like I think they said thatshe didn't get a keeper suit. Right.
And we kind of foreverthey kept the vibranium suit.
And so yeah.
So I think it's going to bea little bit of both,
kind of showing who she is, how she got towhere she is, and then also post,

(33:03):
you know, having experienced the,
high tech vibranium suit.
Yeah.
I mean,I thought they did a really good job
characterizing her,her character in, in the movie itself.
So I'm, I'mreally interested in in the show.
I, I thought her characterwas a good part of the movie.
Yeah.
and I, you know, a lot of people like.
Oh, it's just she's here to replaceIron Man.

(33:24):
I, I disagree with that.
I don't think she's replacing Iron Man.
I think she has her own part of it.
I know that, and it feels like this.
And you tell me for what it feels like.
They're working towards a Young Avengersmovie in the area.
You and she would be a part of that.
You know, being being young.
And I think she might even beenon the dossier that Captain Marvel

(33:45):
had the end of them, or that Captainor Miss Marvel at the end of The Marvels.
And the other part of this is, you know, actor, Sacha Baron Cohen is in this movie
and it's rumored Mike PatrickI I'm this is gonna be really hard to do.
Apologize ahead of time. Patrick.
is that he
will be actually Mephistoin this because of the hood.
Has connections to,

(34:06):
you know, the demon worldand all this other stuff, like that's how.
Yeah, man,
I. I wish, I wish we had a running count
on your podcast of the number of timesthat Mephisto has been rumored.
And it's funny becauseit's not been going on for a hot minute.
Right?
Like, we've had a a good, you know, yearor two of no Mephisto, rumors,

(34:28):
but but that that this seems to be likeI could see him easily playing like,
the human version of the devil who'strying to scheme his way in the thing.
So, we've not heard anything.
That's anything.
Obviously, the show can change till, before it comes out, late next year.
And this these two shows, kind of coincide with that.

(34:51):
Bob Iger promise that they're only goingto be doing two, two shows a year.
Right?
So it sounds like 2025 will be Daredevil
and then Ironheart later on in the year.
But I'm liking that.
I'm seeing six episodes.
Keep it tight. And, you know,
just do a good, good short show.
Yeah. Should be fun.

(35:11):
I can I'll even take, you know, two response to echo.
I'll take five episodes even like, right.
Like, you know, I don't need more than sixby any means, so, six, six or less is.
That's pretty solid all around.
However, this year, we, are yet to get,
other than echothat came out the beginning year.
Our second show, the second show
this year is confirmed to be titled AgathaAll Along, Patrick.

(35:35):
So we got a little teaser, a little videowith all the different
tease names they've been giving usover the years and their release date.
So they've others,
they've we've seen, Agatha,Coven of Chaos, we've seen the Darkhold
Diaries, we've seen House of Harkness, and then we saw the line
which with the Great Wardrobe, which is a great pun on on that.

(35:56):
but they
have confirmed that as a two episodepremiere on September 18th.
So it sounds like, again, all these titles we've seen, they are
they were not just like, oh,we don't know what to name it.
It's like the episodes are named differentthings.
It's kind of what.
It's I, I feel like this, this title,
Marvel settling on this titleis them confirming

(36:16):
that the,
they decided to make a TV show
purely based on, song that got popular.
catchy jingle.
Yeah, yeah.
This has them confirming that. Yeah.
I'm pretty sure at our at our last house, our Wi-Fi password was Agatha
all along as well?
just, because it wasit was funny enough, but,

(36:40):
Yeah, this little this little tarot
styleteaser, animated image is pretty cool.
There's nothing really to take awayfrom the footage, in this, but it does it.
It feels cool.
I'm excited to to kind ofdive back into this after what was it?
WandaVision was 21.
So, you know, three, threeand a half years later,
though, they also didn'trelease some footage there.

(37:01):
We don't have we don't have the footage, but the description again teases
Agatha getting out of Wanda'shex, where she's apparently been,
like trying to solve a mysteryor maybe a murder mystery.
I think they said.
But, confirmsthat she'll be walking the witch's road
to create her own coven of witches, whatever this means. So.

(37:25):
the creative team,
are there any holdoversthat you're aware of?
from.
the from the front?
I don't think so.
Because Matt Shakman, the director, he is doing Fantastic Four.
Okay.
And I'm tryingto, Jack Shafer was a writer.

(37:45):
Shafer. Yeah.
let's see here.
Did, a pull and pull up the wiki page?
So, yeah, she.
Did nine episodes of WandaVision. Okay.
yeah. So, but, Jack, she did.
She actually showrun this,I guess it's going to be.
Oh, I don't yeah, I don't know.
Yeah.
So, I'm just kind of kind ofgoing through it, but I mean, again.

(38:06):
Yeah. Jack, she for sure is headwriter and lead director, so. Absolutely.
So yeah, it is the exact creative teamcoming along.
Great that I'm in. Yeah.
obviously,we've got, actor, there, actress Aubrey
Plaza, Patti LuPone, DeborahJo rep returning.
You know, it's this is exciting.
I would take this.
I like the idea of what was it?
The vision show. that was that was there.

(38:30):
we've talked about vision quests.
I think this is way more fun than VisionQuest.
If I if I'm going to be honest, because we get the vision.
We've seen this intro.
We, we've seen, you know, come to life.
We seemed to him come back to life,
but we don't know much about this fun, magic, fun magic stuff, right?
Not Doctor Strange magic funmagic stuff along the way.
And, I, I've heard again, these are rumors that maybe

(38:50):
one of theseis a fully musical episode as well,
which would be interestingto play with different styles.
Well,I feel like they got to do it now, and.
But just based on her WandaVisionappearance.
Exactly. Yeah.
We need more songs.
We need more, you know, Marvel songshitting the the top charts after it.
Was it the that and,

(39:11):
Roger's the musical, right.
The other one that had a little bitof music, but it seems like a great time.
And in Jeremy Renner's commercial singing,I mean.
Yeah, that's that's true.
But we're going to get into him next.
Don't worry.
We have Hawkeye news this week, so. Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
So, ABC's all along comingSeptember 18th, two episode premiere will,

(39:31):
come back and let you guys know.
So don't expect any more Marvel, I guesslive action series until until this.
I think the animated ones will be here.
But shifting gears,as you mentioned, Hawkeye,
the rumor is that seasontwo for Hawkeye has been greenlit.
after JeremyRenner's, near-death experience.
Was that last year,I think. And he's recovered.

(39:53):
And, you know, I think he's doing moremayor of Kingstown.
Is that his show?
he's out.
He's out doing stuff. He's not doing a show.
but the rumor isit will focus on Clint's brother.
Bernie.
His name is Bernie Barton, if you will.
That's the villain,
and the rumor is to keep costs low

(40:14):
on this while you're doing it, that Kateand Clint will be trapped in one location.
And it'll be very similar to the raidmovies, which I think would be fun.
Yeah.
I mean, that that formula we've seen worka couple times.
now, I mean, obviously the Raid movies, but the, the first one
that comes to mind for me is the,
Oh my gosh, myjust kind of totally blank on it.

(40:37):
Judge Dredd.
Yeah. Judge Dredd, thank.
God, because I was thinking Judger,I was, I was saying
I was like, Dodge Red's the other onethat worked out in this situation.
yeah.
So, you know, bringing along the,the amateur or the inexperienced,
individual and, going through testsand tribulations inside,
you know, a single building,I mean, that that movie was excellent,

(41:00):
though my, my concern would be,you know, carrying
that on through an entire seasonas opposed to a 2.5 hour movie.
no, you're absolutely right.
Like, how do you make that work?
you know,I was kind of thinking about this
because, you know, for for those meat,a lot of people don't know.
I barely knew Clint's brother Barnaby.
They grew up together.
So, like, you know, Hawkeye, his archery skills, like where he he

(41:22):
learned them, he,his brother had them as well.
Like, when they were like, you know, I guess these as, like, a young,
younger people when they ran awayfrom home or something like that.
So I think, you know, having someonemaybe with a similar skillset
as Clint, you know, with three archersis maybe, maybe too much.
But like, maybe in the comic books, they were both circus, actors.

(41:45):
Like, they,
they would use their skills in, like, the circus when they were running away.
So, like, maybe, maybe it is like a carnival location
rather than just a building, like, like it's not just our building.
Like, imagine something like, hey, there's a bunch of traps here,
and this is our, you know, Clint, this is our past.
We're gonna learn more abouthow he grew up rather than,
you know, kind of going forward.
So I think they could workin those situations.

(42:07):
but I agree with you, because just one building for
six hours, that's not very cool, is it?
yeah.
I think, you know, a the cast is Bonnie.
Now, I don't know, thisis maybe rumored to be greenlit stuff. So.
Oh, okay.
but, you know, I have no qualms.
Will continue in a Hawkeye series.
I, I think, if again, under the television

(42:27):
brand going forward and using television, people said movie people,
it can work outreally well in their favor.
Yeah.
I mean, the The Hawkeye show, I thought, you know, had had some good bones to it.
but I, I think it was slightlya victim of, like, what you were saying,
the being run like a movie production, rather than a television show.

(42:50):
but it was one that was like, I would
I would put it if there was a category of,like, salvageable, it would be.
It would be in that one.
Yeah. It a lot of, you know, great people.
Hailee Steinfeld as KateBishop is a great casting choice.
I think she is justshe kills that to bring back in, Florence
Pugh as Yelena for an episodeor two was really good.

(43:14):
and this was the first really,I guess, thing that had the kingpin
right as the villain.
and echo.
Echo even came out of here like thethe it necessarily.
Hawkeyewasn't the highlight of his own show.
It was everybody else around him.
that really kind of stand out to mefor it.
So, yeah, it looks like they're adding inTony Dalton, who's a really good actor.
yeah. And he.

(43:35):
So he'sgoing to appear in the series as well.
He was in the first one, right?
oh. I'm sorry. That's right.I'm looking at the first one.
Yeah, yeah. Anyway. Yeah, yeah.
If we get again,if we get more information. Absolutely.
But I can see some of those characterskind of, kind of carrying over.
yes. With that,
moving on to, our, our show imagetopic of the day.
This is the definitely

(43:55):
the most interesting one for meand where I'm going to be very,
like, knowledgeable,but it's called, Scarlett Johansson's
rumored Marvel projectwhere she's a producer.
We've talked about thisa number of different projects.
It could be anything, butit could be based on the blond Phantom,
which is a comic bookcharacter created in 1946,

(44:16):
and kind of was around for a little bit, then reintroduced
in The Sensational She-Hulkfrom the 89 to 94 era.
I don't know much about thischaracter, Patrick.
I'm completely honest with you.
she seems to be maybe, like, just,
very similar to the black Widow.
Like, like a spy.
She's got guns.
Some, you know, I guess spy skills,

(44:38):
but, like, I can't really, like,she's not a superhero.
She's not, like, a super poweredhero at the end of the day.
So I don't know what this is.
I see parallelsbetween this and obviously the,
Black Widow that Skrull Janssen did play.
And there's an interview footage of, like,I think in the middle of the MCU reign,

(44:59):
like maybe near endgame, that she,Skrull Johnson mentioned this character
when they were like, hey,
when you went to Marvelwith their other characters
and then Black Widow, you were in play, and she said, the blond Phantom.
And that might be where this rumoris pointing back to, to say that
she's doing, but I, I just don't see thischaracter kind of fitting in,
either, her own

(45:20):
show or movieanywhere in Marvel in the foreseeable.
Future to ask you if you knew whatif we knew whether her projects in quotes
was a movie or a TV show?
Yeah, I the all of the rumors are head
pointing to moreTV shows than actual movies.

(45:41):
so could be,
could could could be either one really.
But the, you know, knowing that again,
again, Bob Iger's commitment multipletimes this is not new information.
This is all information
that they're going to do two, maybethree movies a year and two TV series.
I mean, is this even maybe a marvel

(46:02):
adjacent project is maybeis they animated even like.
That's what I was going to say.
Like, do they count animated productionsamong among those,
you know, totals that he's giving?
They do not because,
again, I think, maybewhat if it follows the MCU,
but like, if they're going tothe X-Men 97 is doing great.
They shouldn't hold back on X-Men 97.

(46:23):
But, I don't thinkI think it's just live action productions
from from Iger standpoint.
but I honestly
do you know, I've got I've got herthe bond fans Wikipedia page pulled up.
she has no superhuman powers.
An athletic woman that was skilledhand hand combatant and a fine marks woman
with the conventional hand gunshe carried.

(46:43):
She also possessesexcellent secretarial skills.
Patrick. and,
yeah, I, I, I don't
I don't know what to do with this. And,
I don't know if this is real, like,is is this something we.
If I said, yeah, she's doing a blond,is this something that we even want to
put our time into?

(47:04):
You know, we talked about,
shows becoming,
you know, there'sthere's too many shows out there.
You've got to commit to a show.
Is this somethingthat you'd even want to commit to?
Because I'm not feeling it.
No. And if,I mean, if you're going to go this route,
I mean, I understand if she doesn't wantto step in front of the camera anymore,

(47:25):
but if you're going to go thisroute, then why not either?
well, I don't know.
I guess rebootingthe character might not have, an audience
either, but I, I, I just don't understand,
giving like giving,
eliminating her, her character,

(47:47):
obviously, you know, she's she's dead in the MCU,
but then reintroducing a characterthat seems to be
a less interesting versionof her former character.
Like,I don't know how that's going to fly.
in any medium film, animated, or TV.

(48:08):
Right.
And there's I think she's got,you know, if if they were
giving her some, some interest, some, some options.
you know, I don't think she'd choose thisone, right?
Like, you're like, where's the return on this? Right.
Like where what whatwhat is the is this a creative project?
Is this a passion project?
I, you know, the characters and comicbooks would be a passion project, I feel.

(48:29):
but you also have literally,if you wanted to do a Black Widow's
series with, Florence Pugh,I think that would be more,
rewarding at the end of the dayfor viewers and people making it.
Right.
so, I don't know, I just this isthe weirdest news I've had in a long time.
I just don't know what to do with it.
So I don't know if anyone elsehas any ideas on on the Blond

(48:50):
Phantom, let us know because yeah, we're stumped.
We're just stumped here in,
Marvel, adjacent is the Amazon, attempts to do
some spider man shows and SilkSpider City, which is now dead at Amazon.
By the way.
I didn't want to put it in here, but it is dead.
But after they announced that Spider Sideis no longer moving forward at Amazon,

(49:13):
they've said, they're going to confirmthat Nicolas Cage will star as,
as will star in a spider mannoir series called noir.
and I don't think it's an adaptationof the comic book Spider Man anymore, but,
based on style series, right?
because obviously he would play the animevoice, the animated
Spider-Man noir, the comic book series.

(49:35):
He's very much a younger detective, but it sounds like that
this description is
is an aging and Daniel's like, private investigator in 1930s New York
who was forced to grapple with his pastlife as the city's one and only superhero.
So it sounds like maybe it's an aged upSpider-Man noir here.
Man, I just want to.
I want,
a noir movie that's based off

(49:57):
of a highly successfulprivate investigator.
Like, I feel like all theseare the down on their luck.
private investigator, I don't know.
That's that's a nice noir for you.
You can't have those depressinginner monologues if he's.
Yeah. That's right.If he's happy, go lucky.
with that, I.
I can with a very happy home life and,

(50:18):
you know, a beautiful wifeand two kids that he loves very much.
He's a very successful superheroas well, right?
Everyone loves them.
He's he's obviously not concerned outto get them.
this this, this,
I've got some red flags, and we've got some green flags here.
Okay. Red flags is.
It's Spider-Man noir, but it's not.

(50:39):
How did they not learnanything about Madame Web?
You know, literally, like Madame Web.
Sony, you know, the same as on a Sony.
Like you did a Spider-Man moviewithout Spider-Man.
And boy, did that.
They're not good.
it didn't go over well.
Well, but Nicolas Cage, I think he iscrazy enough to sell whatever he's doing.

(50:59):
Like he will commit to this role.
He's not going to half art half hearted, right?
that's for sure.
He is going to go all in.
So, keep coming back the other way.
again, who's asking for a Spider-Mannoir series?
Red flag. Right. This is like, who?
Who's making stuff up,but produced by Phil Lord, Chris
Miller and Amy Pascal, who've done all the good Spider-Man stuff

(51:23):
back, back into the green flag. So
what's your take on this?Right, right out the gate?
I mean, my first thought is for
for any noir feature,it's it's all in the writing.
Like you were just talking, internal dialog, that sort of thing.
The the world building,
is really important in a noir feature.

(51:46):
it we typically,
I guessone good thing that noir has going for it
is, noir is notoriousfor following around its protagonist
and only giving the point of viewof its protagonist.
most noir films are that way.
And if you know, we'reif every scene involves
Nicolas Cage,that that's, that's a boon for the show.

(52:08):
That's a that's a good thing. But,
the the problem is it requires,
like, really, sharp writing.
I feel like,
and the writers that they have attached tothis so far are like,
I know the producers are inspiringconfidence,
but the writers to me are not inspiringconfidence with, such writing credits

(52:32):
as Escape Room, Tournament of Champions,The Cloverfield Paradox, Mortal Kombat,
The Lost City.
Okay. All right. Yeah.
You know,I mean, exactly another red flag, right?
Like, really like you'reyou're you're only some.
But, you know, there are writers, you know,
with the proper directionwho can come back, right?

(52:52):
sure.
Because I, you know,I look at the Cloverfield Paradox,
that movie is like a gut punch to mebecause I'm like,
oh, this is high concept scifi Cloverfield universe.
But it was like the history of that movie.
It was written one way and then like, no,
this isn't a we're goingto add Cloverfield to this movie.
So they had to adapt the original scriptinto Cloverfield.
And and I'm like, that doesn't workin any, any way, shape or form.

(53:15):
But, right.
Yeah.
I mean, it's to me,one of the interesting parts about this,
if it's a no hour series, trulynoir style series even,
is that, you know,is it unique enough right now?
Because we don't get a lot of that kind ofshow it right now.
Like, you know, that fad isyou know, up and down, up and down,
that it could stand outamongst every other show

(53:36):
because it's got a uniquekind of style and voice to it.
Right? Is that, hey.
I agree with you,but I think we don't get a lot of that
because frankly,I don't think people get it.
Yeah, like I don't I don't think people,
you know, grasp
on to it that the only mainstream thingthat I can think of as being noir or neo

(53:58):
noir in the past 15 years is like SinCity had its moment.
What about but Blade Runner 2049?
Oh yeah, that's no, that's a fair point.
Although I, I think Blade Runner, I mean,I especially compared to the original,
it kind of went away from its noir rootsa little bit in in The consideration.

(54:21):
But I think, I think noir, it hasa, history of being black and white.
Right. We need to think one thing, but I'm thinking of black and white film.
Right. Like I'm thinking, yeah, obviously.
But you know, with Blade Runner 2014,it's still there's still more to it,
you know, kind of a silent protagonist,a lot of, you know, thoughts in thoughts.
But like, I think we can add color to noirnow and it's still be okay.

(54:41):
Right. with this.
But your 1930s New York house,I don't think, you know, like
a lot of people like gangsterswith their Tommy guns out, you know,
talking with those thick New York accents,
sure, this can go either way, I guess.
I guess I don't know if if you agreethat this could literally go either way.
really?
Really. It could be good.It could be bad, you know. And.

(55:02):
Yeah, I mean, I'm, I'm to be honestwith you, I'm very interested.
But I also feel likeI would be in the minority there.
I think the more detailsthat people hear about it,
you're are losing people like, you hearSpider-Man and you're like, oh, great.
And then you hear Nicolas Cageand you're like, oh, great.
And then you get further down your,I don't know, like if, if,

(55:26):
if people heard about a serious Spider-Manseries starring Nicolas Cage,
I think they would be,you know, piqued their interest.
And then the more details you pileon, the less and less.
Interesting when you when you find outthat it's not really Spider-Man.
right. Exactly. Yeah. Kind of thing.
Absolutely. Yeah.
I, I exact 100% like,after watching Madame Web

(55:47):
and looking at the upcomingKraven, I'm just not thrilled.
I think even the producer of thesome of the Spider-Man stuff
this week was like, yeah, we're excited for venom three.
You know, the last bita movie, and I get that venom, you know,
say what you will about it's not as badas the other Spider-Man properties
that have come out of Sony. but, you know,

(56:08):
I don't know.
It's just feels likethey're just blowing their.
Any chance they get goodwill to buildactually good Spider-Man stuff after,
you know, into the Spider-Verse, crossedSpider-Verse and and Spider-Man movies.
But now we'll see what you knowas this gets moving along.
We'll see. Amazon.
you know, again, surprise me with withnot the not the like I said, it's

(56:29):
not the best show in the world, but it's still fun show to watch.
So maybe they can pull some funout of this at the end of the day.
Yeah.
creature commandos, are you familiar with this property
over at, DC universe or so?
This is the animated, showcoming up that James Gunn likes.
One of the first announcements, like,
we're doing an animated showfor for DC first and Creature Commandos.

(56:50):
So essentially it's imagine Suicide Squad, but with, like,
there's a, there's a Frankenstein,like a Bride of Frankenstein,
like a underwater creature who looks likehe's from, Hellboy or, What's that?
That moviewhere the lady has sex with the water.
Dude. Alien.
you know, you don't talk talking.
The shape of. Water. The shape of waterthere is, yeah.
So it's essentially,

(57:10):
creature Commandos is Suicide Squad,but they're they're they're like,
just creatures, like monsters,if you will, with them who have personal,
the thethe weasel dude from the Suicide Squad.
You remember the weasel? he's in it. Yes.
It's that.
And when they announce all this stuff, they they announce the voice actors,
and Frank Grillois going to be the human leader,

(57:30):
this Rick Flaggsenior of that animated show.
And theythey are actually taking him as an actor
and bringing them into Peacemakerseason two.
the human version of them,if you will. So,
the Argus live action version, not the animated version in season two.
And James Gunn confirmed that this week.
And, the this is interesting simplybecause you watch The Suicide Squad right?

(57:53):
When it came out. Yes.
that, peacemaker killed Rick FlaggJr in that one.
Right.
So he's obviously going to
have a vendetta against peacemakerwhen he shows up in this.
And, for those who may not know,Frank Grillo, he was the, in America,
the Winter soldier.
He was, the guy who tried to arrestCaptain America in the elevator. Yep.
So I recall that.

(58:14):
he's got some history in Marvel.
he's got some some stuff with,James Gunn, and, the series Creature
Commandos will be screened at the AnnecyFilm Festival.
I think it's in, like, France.
And in June next month.
Nice.
I this is to me and, you know,I said of the top shows
is a big points on therebecause I think this is like,

(58:35):
you know, that commitment that, you know, hey, we are going to bring characters
in, who voice their voice, their characters into the live action.
And I think it's great they're actuallyfollowing through that commitment.
Right.
you can say that.
And then like, you know, obviouslythere's weasel who was in the
Suicide Squad, and he's in this he's a CGIcharacter played by,

(58:56):
Sean Gunn, actually.
So like, that's one thing,
but to bring a whole, you know, characterfrom animated live action is going to be
I just don't see Frank Grilloas the dad of,
Rick Clark Jr that we saw in there.
Like, they he looks youngerthan, Joel Kinnaman at the movie.
So like, yeah, are they gonna put some gray on him?
You know, put a beard on them, like. Yeah,I mean, that's. What it's going to say.

(59:18):
Need a little touch of gray there.
Yeah.
I mean hishis hair is his hair is jet black.
I think a little touch of gray would help.
Yeah, sell that for us.
And he doesn't look anythinglike Joel Kinnaman either, so.
No, no, he doesn't.
So this is going to be an interestingkind of kind of parentage kind of thing.
but, yeah, obviouslypeacemaker season two on its way.

(59:40):
yeah.
Exciting to to catchup and see how this somehow crosses over
into the new DCU proper.
moving on in the DC universe,Booster Gold, the TV series,
has, this is rumored from a scooper,so take it either way you want.
We'll use, the Blue Beetle actorfrom the 2023 movie.

(01:00:02):
I think it's.
I think it's Xolo.
So I think it's, shallow.
it's his name that actors name.
So, they'll be bringing himinto that movie.
So you have a Booster Gold blue Beetle.
It's much like the comic book team ups.
And, casting will be announced this year,
and it's rumored to be Chris Pratt, but I don't think that's very true.
I don't think Chris Pratt will committo a TV series, do you?

(01:00:24):
no, I mean, he he.
For a while there he was gettingthe biggest movie properties,
you know, that exists in Hollywood.
I, I can't see him going backto a TV series, especially one like this.
Yeah. I was, I was looking up his Yeah.
Obviously filmography like, you know, he,
he's the, he's still in every voiceactors role out there we joke about.

(01:00:46):
Right. Like,well he's he's Mario, he's Garfield.
That just came out recently.
I forgot about that.
Yeah. He he's he's been in Jurassic World.
He's been in.
Yeah, obviously.
Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengersstuff.
he's probably going to hit me.
He's probably going to get his own movie.
Right.
The, they said Star-Lord will returnat the end of that thing.

(01:01:07):
but I also, youknow, I was thinking of this friend about,
like, he's in that show,The Terminal List on Amazon,
where he's like a Navy Seal
kind of thing, and it's ongoing.
Heard of that?
I remember seeing thethe promotions for this,
and it looks like a Jason Bourneor Jack Reacher TV show, like,
like there's nothing on thisthat stands out to me.
I like, I like, oh, I gotta watch this.

(01:01:29):
The it just looks like a, one of those,
I guessmodern military spy movies kind of things.
But he's a Navy Seal who seeks to avengethe murder of his family.
Pull up here.
So, I mean, maybe he would committo a show, but I'm not.
I just don't feel like he would.
He would do this if. If Booster Gold,

(01:01:51):
was a movie, absolutely.
100% seem doing it.
But, you know, I think they're goingto try to probably find someone maybe
a little less popular,a little less a little more cheaper to,
to get this movie off the ground,if you will, our TV series.
TV series. Sorry.
I'm not. No.
In kind of a slight tangent, I guess.
Do you do you think that,

(01:02:13):
that a lot of those actorsfrom the Guardians movies
would be tempted to, to follow, gun?
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah, I do.
I it's not something
I really thought about into until,we started discussing the
the Booster Gold property, but I, I could, I could see that being,

(01:02:35):
kind of a takeover for,you know, from Marvel to, to DC.
I know, in the first, the Suicide Squad.
I mean, this isn'treally commitment, but, like,
what's,
the actress who playedmantis is in, like, the the the bar
dancing scene, like, it'sone of the, like, the, the locals.
And then, the lady who played Ratcatcher,

(01:02:57):
is in Guardians three,so there is a lot of crossover.
James Gunnlikes to have his usual suspects, right?
not just his brother, not just his brother, but he will.
He will give Sean Gunn every role he can.
I said I have a signed photographfrom Sean Gunn.
I have a voice.
I love Sean, and we just joke about it.
it's funny because obviously Helen Gunn'slike getting it.

(01:03:17):
Chris Pratt voicing it, one of the two, but, yeah, I think I think absolutely.
I think, you know, what was, Davidteasing, you know, huge vocal support
for James Gunn whenever the, the otherDisney regiment fired him right after,
back in like, 2018.
So, you know, I,I do think they would probably follow him.
And I think, again, he is goodon his commitment to to to work with him

(01:03:41):
across that I, you know, I could seewhat was it
how shoot he played Yondu.
and then he was, in the Suicide Squadopening as well.
Yeah. Michael. Something.Something. Rooker.
He goes for three names.
oh. Yeah. You are?
Yeah, yeah.
Rooker.
I'll both of those names that are Rooker.
all three of them. Yeah. but.

(01:04:03):
Yeah. Yeah.
So I think I think I think they will,I think, you know,
I don't know if it'll be right away, but,you know, obviously there's still
some casting for the super girl moviethat's going to be coming up.
we've got we got some notes on that,
Green Lantern's TV screen.
We'll talk about it.
Yeah, I think there's opportunities toput them in there and have some of them.

(01:04:23):
but speaking of Green Lanterns,we'll jump into that real fast.
the lanterns TV series, this is going to come from TV series has,
added Chris Mundy of the showCriminal Minds as a showrunner.
And, they've confirmed that, Tom
King, who is a comic book writer,he's, Batman comic books.
A he wrote Supergirl, a Woman of Tomorrowcomic that they're based in the movie on

(01:04:44):
tons more as,the co-writer of the series as well.
So, yeah, TV credit.
I don't know,I'm gonna have to look this up now.
I will give a shout outto, friend of the show and listener Brian.
He was at Motor City Comic-Con
this weekend, and one of the textsI got from him yesterday is literally
got to meet Tom King and Mitch Gerard's,who are comic book writers for DC.

(01:05:07):
Huge comic writers.
Mister Miracle, that was a TV show.
He's an Eisner Awardwinning writer for, comic books.
I'm looking at.
I don't see anything TV directlyrelated in here.
Okay, I want to look him up.
so that's not saying that's not in here, but they just listen off there.
But I think I think there's some carryoverthere, right?

(01:05:28):
Like a script for a comic book.
And, you know, script for that stuffworks out the same.
And gotta start somewhere.
Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
If he was just like a brand new writer, like,
right outthe gate, I'd be like, yeah, maybe we'll.
But, he still, he's still writing,
current.
If you look it up, he's writing the WonderWoman series currently and,
the Penguin series for DCas of as of today. So,

(01:05:49):
Yeah, I think that's great.
This is this is a fun little thing here.
Criminal Minds, you know, that's,
it's like, like a murder mysterykind of show, right?
And, you know, Green Lanternsthat are the space cops of the universe,
you know, I, I'd watch, essentially.
Yeah.
Not necessarily a procedural, but, like, you know, a cop movie
trying to solve some big mystery murderout in the universe with Green Lanterns.

(01:06:14):
yeah.
I mean, so is that for surethe direction that they're going in?
based on the Criminal Minds?
I don't I don't know,but that's always been the rumors, right?
Until they actually say something.
Because, you know, there's been, like several Green Lantern.
Like, there was a show calledI think it was
this just called lanterns, but there was another Green Lantern show
that was going on a movie
that was canceled whenever James Gunnand Peter Safran took over.

(01:06:36):
So, I don't know where everything standsas is today, but
I feel that has been the heaviest rumorso far that they're going to be doing
like they're they're out in the universetrying to solve a mystery, with that.
And then also,Nathan Fillion will play the Guy Gardner,
the red haired bull cut version of GreenLantern in the Superman movie next year.

(01:06:57):
So, yeah,I agree, that is one of my favorite.
If I, you know, when people say,oh, you're a marvel fan, I'm like,
yeah, that's fine.
But like comic books, Green Lanternsabsolutely love their series.
the one of my favorite ones was calledBlackest Night, which is the, idea.
Like, there's Green lanterns, yellowlanterns, every color on the the spectrum.
And each one represents, like a kind of emotion,

(01:07:19):
green being willpower, yellow fear, orange avarice.
But, Black lanternsare essentially zombies.
people who,you know, life, White Lanterns are life.
Black was death.
So like, there's like, essentiallythey're bringing back
dead superheroes as Black Lanternsin this big comic book culmination.
so it's it'd be great to see the othercolored rings out there having some fun.

(01:07:41):
Yeah, man, I it's so funny because, like,Green Lantern has always interest me,
but all the, all the likethe mainstream properties, I mean.
Well, primarily the movie.
Yeah.
The Ryan Reynolds movieI like have just been so terrible that
I've never been able to really get into itmuch so I, I, I hope it's really good.

(01:08:03):
there was also a Green Lanternanimated show on Cartoon Network.
it was like I say, it was like a CGanimated show, and it dealt with lots of.
I recommend that show.
you know, especially a young guy,a young son.
It's this kid show.
and I really enjoy that.
and then I forget what the other one islike.
Maybe Green Lantern first flight is a DCanimated show from, like, ten years,

(01:08:25):
an animated movie from 10 to 15 years ago,and it was one of the first
DC animated movies I did.
And I recommend that if you want to getsome good Green Lantern content.
Along the way.
Definitely.
I will have to check it out. Yeah.
Moving on.
Supergirl.
Woman of tomorrow.
We, talk about a little bit,
earlier with, her name is Millie.

(01:08:45):
Something I forget her. It's,
Millie Alcock, who was in, House of Dragon and Supergirl.
This movie is confirmed to release,June 26th, 2026.
So. 626, 2026.
that's I know that's, you know, two yearsfrom now, but that feels pretty good.
I mean, that means thatthey're moving along pretty well.
They probably got a good script.

(01:09:06):
So we'll get some casting announcementsprobably.
I'm guessing Comic-Con this year. Right.
San Diego Comic-Con.
We'll get some more casting announcementsand villains.
this is great.
I'm glad they're moving forwardwith another movie
rather than just sticking with Superman.
And I know Batman Bravingthe Bold is in there,
but we've not heardanything move on that. So,
this feels pretty good.

(01:09:27):
I, I do wonder
if there's a reason why it seems like theythey're putting so much
into the Super manSupergirl super woman properties
here off the batwithout touching on many other,
of the characters.
I mean, maybe that's just my,

(01:09:48):
me not paying as much attentionto DC as Marvel, I guess. But,
it just it just feels that way.
Well, I was to me,I agree, and and, you know, there.
But maybe it's
because some of the cast of Supermanis going to be in Supergirl, right?
Maybe some carryover already. Right.
fair enough with that.
And then also we haveI know it's not DC universe proper, but

(01:10:10):
we have the Batman Part two and Joker
two as like theI know they're both Batman.
This is Batman and Superman, but like the earthbound,
like more realistic characters. Where is,
James Gunn?
He has some, you know, can gosci fi and supernatural a little bit
with with the Superman Supergirland then have the grounded, realistic
The Batman and the Joker in movie theaterskind of alongside it, if you will.

(01:10:34):
Sure.
But I mean, there's so different that
that no one really associates themwith one another.
Well.
Absolutely.
And I think, I think just thinkif you look at an audience point of view,
we do we oversaturate it with oneor the other, like right.
Do you how do you gethow do you get, you know, James
Gunn's Batman outwhile the Batman Part two is out?
Yeah.

(01:10:54):
I get what you're saying. Yeah.
So you don'tyou don't want, you know, your your other
big space world killing, you know,
adventure feature action, whatever.
movie to, to, overlap or overshadowthis one.
Yeah. So, yeah,I get what you're saying. Yeah.

(01:11:14):
It's kind of like, you know, last year, you know, people like a Blue Beetle.
I'm like, yeah, Blue Whale came out.
But people forget
because the flash came outand took over literally everything, right?
Like, right.
you know, so people will miss that.
But I agree, like, there's more to DC thanBatman and Superman characters, right?
Like, there are so many otherwe talked about Green Lantern, push gold.

(01:11:36):
we've got, you know, and
maybe. Is it too late for one?
It's too soon for a Wonder WomanAquaman reboot.
I mean, I know we got Superman in here, but, like, there are a lot of other
DC characters that you can pull fromthat don't need to be those two.
yes. Galleries of characters.
Right.
you know, the one thing about Marvel, you know, say what you will

(01:11:57):
in the early days yet, Iron Man,you had Thor, you had Captain America,
and the Hulk, like four very, very different characters.
Like they were not popularat that point in time.
People didn't know who they were.
So, like, I think you could probably startwith some small characters
and have some, some, some of these gods and monsters
properties coming outthat aren't just Superman.

(01:12:19):
Right? Yeah.
So but, you know, if if that's theI again, I think the theory I have
and you tell me what you thinkbecause in the movie production world,
you know, Warner Brothers proper, they, they get money from lenders, the banks
and people who finance these moviesthat, you know, they, they're
they don't have a lot of moneyto give to DC right now

(01:12:41):
because everything has kind ofnot been good lately, right?
You know, in The Flash,
Black Adam, I would say, you know, maybeevil probably got a little bit of money
and broke even, but it was made for streaming.
like all those propertieshaven't been doing well.
And so to start on a new studioand do this,
they have to show success with one movieand make money before the banks
or lendersgive them more money for more properties.

(01:13:03):
So they're probably picking like, hey,
we need a win out the gate regardlessof your quality can be mediocre,
but it's got Superman's name in it.
We can get money to make them moreniche films.
Along, right?
And I, I completely agree with that.
In terms of starting with Superman,I thought that that was the smartest.
But then going from there,

(01:13:24):
yeah, I, I,I don't know, I don't know, I don't,
I don't know why we put all, all our eggsin the Superman adjacent basket.
Oh no, I that's and that's whyI'm saying I'm agreeing with you entirely.
Like I just think likeis a success of House of the Dragon
and roll like we like we can count on her.
And there's Supermanadjacent character to be our next big hit.

(01:13:45):
yeah.
along the way, because I'd like to,you know, Man-Thing.
not Man-Thing is Man-Thing.
Swamp thing is one of the movieson that list, right?
That they announce early on.
I would like to go to a Swamp Thing.
Like, can we get in there?
Like, a little bit, like,
I know he's had enoughruns of movies and TV shows, but, like,
let's do some of that for a little bit.
kind of thing.

(01:14:05):
I mean, and I think what they got,I love the casting, though.
I mean, I know you have said in the pastthat you,
have not really goneinto House of the Dragon.
Yeah.
but I think Millie's a good casting.
She's really great in the show. And her.
I mean, her stint in the showended, not due to.

(01:14:26):
There's no spoilershere, not due to a death or anything,
but you do a time jumpfor the character, right? So,
Yeah, I think she's.
She's a good gift for sure.
And, I mean, even though she doesn't have
a ton of experience, she's,
she's definitely.
Well, I mean, that was a popular show,so she's well known enough, I think.

(01:14:48):
Oh, absolutely. Yep.
I think I think that's, to me,you'll be fine.
I, I think any, any actor, Iwe don't get to see auditions.
Right from our point of view,we don't give a see here
the the reading, the scripture, how they have to do it.
And I think know if they can get throughthat fire to their they're doing great.
I don't think she's like ashe's not a nepo baby. Right.
And she's not a
you know, hey she's worked with James Gunnbefore we hire her kind of deal.

(01:15:10):
So I think it's it's pretty fun.
A last bit of news here.
while we don't have the Boys seasonfour yet, that's coming out, next month.
they've already confirmed season five.
is going to be in the works,so I think they're trying to reduce
the time between seasons on this.
And but I think to methe boys season five needs to be

(01:15:32):
I think that's where it needsto Indonesia. And on a very strong
five season run Patrick what are youhow do you feel that I.
I, I, I really feel like you're right. I,
I feel like I, I really like
the boys first of all. so,
stick that up front, but I feel like the seasons start

(01:15:54):
to go through a similar cycle,or at least the they're starting to,
feel a little similar, and that,
you know, we we start offintroducing new characters,
which is typical, obviously,or the new threat, the new major thing.
Then there's the the thethe rising action.
The stakes are amped up.

(01:16:15):
Someone big diesor some something crazy happens.
Then there's a falling out among the teamwhere,
you know, mother's milk isis mad about something.
And, you know, everybody's their separate directions.
And then somehow they, they come back together in the end.
And like, I, I feel like it's it's goingthrough a similar pattern every time with,

(01:16:41):
you know, new
characters, new stakes,new, social commentary.
And it's always entertaining,but I, I feel like, we're starting to beat
the same drum and, I think fiveseems like a good a good step to end on.
Yeah, you can kind of see the patternskind of unfolding as you watch the show
a little bit, right? Like, you know,

(01:17:02):
each season. And it's not a complaint.
I like watching the show as well.
It's not a complaint, but
they there's not a lotyou can do in the, in some of these shows.
Right.
Like and it's just like, you know, either ends on a good note.
it usually never ends on a good notethat ends on bad note.
It's worse for next season. So it amps up the stakes.
But knowing that the the source material, the boys comic book is done

(01:17:23):
and, you know, they'vethey've veered from it.
They've updated itsince then. it's not one for one.
But like, you know, they havea good ending point in sight for that.
So it's not like, hey,we need to keep running
as long as the comic booksrunning, the comic books on.
And we can we can in thisin a good five season kind of deal.
And what was the,
the showrunner for this?
He did the supernatural,Eric Kripke. Right.

(01:17:43):
And he had a plan to in that,I think, after five seasons.
And then, like,I think the fans just brought it back
and like, that show just ran for, like, what, 15 years or something like that?
did it really? Yeah.
It had ungodly number of seasons.
which is good. Good for it.
I got, you know, the fans kind of get they want,
but hopefully like a show like they, they know where the end point is.

(01:18:03):
And they were like, hey,we need to, to wrap it up here.
and it, it finally that wayit's a nice contained show, right?
I know they're doing the spin offs.
Gen V, and I think GenB is getting the season two.
and I think there was
one the boys Mexico is the other seriesthey're working on as well.
So if you can into your main oneand then, you know, maybe run your spinoff

(01:18:25):
secondary to that kind of similarto Game of Thrones if you want.
I think, I think that's fine to do that.
So anyway, for season four.
Yeah.
Season four and then also season five,I would say year, maybe year and a half.
before that, gets going.
Well, that is it for the for the episode.

(01:18:45):
Patrick, do you have anything else
you want to add beforebefore we wrap it up?
no, man.
thanks for letting metake over permanently. For.
Yeah. For Mike. Yeah, absolutely.
You did a great job today.
So, you know, I will sayyou've been promoted to full time host.
Absolutely.Yeah. Nice. All right, what's up? Hey,
Hey, oh, honey, this is no honeymoment for,

(01:19:08):
Yeah. We don't do it for the money.
The glory or the fame over here.
Believe us, we just,
saw superheroes lights them out, but,you know, I'm out.
Yeah. I'm out. Okay, well,it was a good run.
It was. I'm glad we had you on. For what?
For an episode.
before I. Before you quit.
That's fine. What?
I I'm just don't tell Mike.
He'll come crawling back to me.

(01:19:29):
he won't listen to the whole episode.
And we'll get this far to come crawlingback in and ask for his place next week.
I'm like, well, fine,I'll go fire Patrick.
he won't know any, know any better.
But if you want to, you know, be that's
you know, they have a where can people find you?
Do you have any
I you're not much of a social person,so this might be a very useless for you.
But I want to know.
Yeah, man.
Okay. I'm,I'm not really on any social media.

(01:19:50):
If they want to find me, they should, they should at you.
Okay. Where can they find you?
You can find you, on Instagram 1487,Val, Dan or any other, any, anywhere else.
That's really where it is.
I am video game system, stuff like that.
I would say, you know, you might be ablepeople might be able to go find their
old show
film side chats, almost some of thoseeight episodes that we did along the way.

(01:20:11):
If they if they can find it somewhere,I still own the domain, I'm pretty sure.
So if we ever, you know, we've talked about doing that.
There's rumors of that starting back up.
And I think it'sI think it's going to happen.
It's just, I need
I need my youngest to get a little olderand not be, in so much attention here.
Absolutely.
Well,I hopefully this, you know, jogs your,
your podcast muscles a little bit and getyou go on like, yeah. Hey.

(01:20:32):
Yeah.
It wasn't too bad to get up and go
and let's it,let's plug it in and start rolling.
Always a good time. Yeah. All right.Well thank you for being here.
Always fun to talk to you. Now,do you know how to finish the shot?
You need me to do it.

disappointed as much
as I didn't know what a baseball cap was.

(01:21:40):
And my wife said I was an idiot,so I don't think that one is your fault.
Okay, well,How how do you like your material?
I, I wear mine all the time.
Still, I those things hold up forever, but, Oh, yeah, man, they're great shirts.
and I mean, they're the.
They don't feel or look cheaply made.
like,I mean, I've ordered shirts, based off

(01:22:01):
of other podcast properties before, and, yeah, they, they are nicely made shirts.
Yeah.
They hold up to the point, like,my wife's like,
you got to getyou got to get new clothes, man.
I'm like, yeah, I know I had a pairof shorts rip on me yesterday.
So I'm like, yeah,I need to buy some shorts.
But, all right.
