(00:18):
Hello everyone, and welcome to SuperheroSlate
the show where we run down the latestsuperhero entertainment news.
We love TV, movies and superheroes,so let's talk it all out.
My name is Chris. And my name is Mike.
And this weekwe're ending 2023 with a bang.
And we're going to be talking aboutZack Snyder's Rebel Moon Part one.

(00:40):
Very. Very distinctive.
There's there are two parts to this movie. It's part one.
We're gonna talk about the last DCU moviewith all of of Aquaman
and The Last Kingdom.
The end of the episode,
we're breaking down Insomniac's huge
hack with the leaks and more and less.
But this is athis is mainly an audio podcast,

(01:03):
so you're not really going to see anythingthat leak, but we'll talk about it.
We full detail which might, which might benefit us
along the ethical linesof talking about things that are hacked.
Yeah,Chris and I were just mentioning that
the news went so wide after itbecause it was such a substantial
hack that everybody kind of knows about itand is talking about it now.

(01:23):
So it kind of feels weirdto not mention it at all.
And it happened literally the weekafter the video Game Awards winner.
Spider-Man was up for a lot of awardsanyway, so it was like Insomniac's.
Spider-Man was likeon the top of everyone's list anyway.
So it just kind of snowballedinto something
bigger than itprobably normally would have been.
Yeah.
And also, it's like pretty much sinceit's insomniac, it's almost entirely

(01:43):
Marvel video game news as well.
So usually video game hackslike we didn't really talk about the GTA
hack at all, like nobody onthis podcast is coming here to.
We've looked at. And we were like,That's a video game.
We're like, Yeah, that that's a that's athat's a video game for sure.
Okay, you move on. Didn'tthat did that happen?
I mean, we're already talking,we're reminiscing now. But it was 22.
It was 22.
Okay. Yeah, that's the thing.
It's hard to figure outand it's also Chris, you sent me

(02:06):
I think it was in November,a couple of like D.J like remixes
and compilations of people taking songs
popular this year and also like themesfrom movies and stuff.
Yeah, those are really cool.
But one pet peeve
I do have is and I get it whyyou have to get to the jump so quickly.
That's exactly why the Spotify wrappedhits in like I think November as well.

(02:29):
Because once you hit December, all of the all of that media value,
you know, starts to dissipate soyou don't get as much bang for your buck.
So luckily, there's a couple people that held back
some of their like 20, 23 recaps,
at least on the YouTube side.
Some of the people I'm subscribedto until like a couple of days ago
and I was like, I get it.

(02:50):
Like nobody is on YouTube, really like bingeing stuff this week.
They all got other stuff going on.
Well, the other part is you can literallyI used to make
was it like into the year
like blooper reels whenever I didvideo work for companies and I wouldn't
I wouldn't wait till the last minuteto make the move reels.
I'd start compiling that projectfirst month of the year.
Right? And then I just had to add to it.

(03:11):
So any of these, you know,
YouTubers who are smart would be compilingthe big things every month
and then just adding to one big playlistat the end.
Yeah, it does do that, but it doesn't meanit feels like there's this unaccounted
like December for every year wherepeople do like these wrap ups of like,
well what happenedif it happened in December,
you know,it might not make any of these recaps.

(03:32):
So it's like this month
where like, nothing happens, but it's kind of the largest holiday is.
Mariah Carey'sAll I Want for Christmas Is You.
That's like this is number one songall month long, Mike.
We can't get away from it.
I really enjoy watching Muppet ChristmasCarol, the number one movie for the month.
So we arethere's your recap for December, folks.
We did it. Congrats.I mean, I don't know about you, Chris.
I mean, I know you jammed everybodythe last time we were on the podcast,

(03:55):
but I mean, I know Rockin Aroundthe Christmas Tree is a pretty vintage
song compared to Mariah Carey, butI think I heard that everywhere this year.
Well, it'slike kind of making a classic resurgence.
Well, the big
but the big the big thing about thatwas as people find out, like Brenda Lee
was like maybe 13 or 14when she recorded that song and like,
it wasn't like a 30 year old lady,Like she was just a teenager.

(04:15):
And I think everyone was like, no way.
So, you know, it'sone of those things like, again,
there's this social experiment, right, where something you didn't know
comes outor you like that can't be real or drama.
The bond, the Mandela effect, writesomething like literally like you.
If something like thathits, its the right vein.
You're like,okay, that's going to be everywhere.
It's drama, it's t it'swhat everyone's looking for.

(04:37):
It's a huge part of Home Alone.
So, I mean, here in the momentwe're going to do
kind of like a recap of thingsthat we'd like to hear in 2023.
But Chris, you are very vigilant.
We always put
this in the top of our show notesand we forget to get to it right away.
Don't forget.
Yes, don't forget to like and subscribefor our weekly content.
I do want to if you are a new subscriber,
we have much new subscribers overthe holiday from our shorts on YouTube.

(05:00):
So welcome to the show.
We do this every week except last weekwe took a break off for Christmas
because Christmas fell literallyon the day we normally do this.
So we're going to be here every weekand this is we're going into our ninth
or 10th year.
My goodness.
It's hard to keep trackof how long we've been doing this.
So if you're looking
for a consistent podcast, we're nothingif not consistent going forward.

(05:20):
So I can subscribe for moreand we'll be back every week.
But yeah, so Mike, this was yeah,we literally this, this line of items here
for SEO purposes is onelooks like we just put it,
we literally compiled itright before we recorded. Yes.
Because I believe in previous yearswe always come to this episode,
the last episode of the yearwith a kind of like recap mentality.

(05:42):
But then we get to the bullet point.
After recording, we're like,We didn't write anything down.
It's like, we forgot.
Like, I swear, like now in like mediatimeline, like things that happened
in January felt like they have happenedfour years ago, like pre-pandemic.
If it came out in January to me.
So I had to go back and be like,What came out this year?
And then it's like, yeah,I did like that movie.
But as I was mentioning to Chris off, Mike

(06:05):
is now all of the rose coloredglasses are kind of gone, right?
So if you like,
kind of were digging a movie and then youhaven't even thought about it in months,
now you're reminded of it.
You're just like, I guess that reallywasn't that influential or impactful.
So I think that shows here in our lists.
Yes, absolutely.
And it's one of those things, again, and I think I brought up is the writers

(06:26):
strike and actors strike this year.
Really it didn't
you know content was onlymedia was releasing
but like the promotionfor things was weird.
So we didn't know when things werehappening or they just kind of came out.
A lot of things were pushed in the back
half of the year, which I think actually helped things
breathe a little bit because we are inthat post-COVID boom of content still.
So I think, you know,we had some good stuff here.
And, you know,I think our lists are going to really tell

(06:48):
people what we do the most
because mine is mostly movies and videogames and Mike's is mostly TV shows.
And we got and so we.
We got like a list of like 15 or 16 herebetween the two of us.
So for the sake of structure and sanity,Chris, I would like you to just,
just read off your list.
Just read through itand then we'll just react to it. Yes.
So first and foremost, mehave Guardians of the Galaxy Volume three,

(07:12):
which a lot of people do forgetcame out this year.
Recently, Spider-Manfive for that taskmaster, the TV series,
the UK TV series, TeamAnti Mutant Mayhem, Spider-Man
across the Spider-verse and in MonarchLegacy of Monsters here at the end.
So these are things that have been saidto me.
Obviously, some of these are a little more relevant.

(07:32):
I love thisfeels like the back half of the year.
But yeah, so I mean, to me, to me, Mike, you know, we've talked about
we had, you know, three Marvel moviesand one of them to me stood out.
The most of that was Guardians three,
like James Gunn's last Marvel movie thatwe know of, hitting on a pretty high note.
Honestly, to me.
Yeah, that movie felt likeit was like protected by an incantation

(07:53):
because the script in the cast
were kind of already setand good to go and preserved in a bubble
before like the the Che packwave kind of ran through Disney.
So once it was safe to unlockthe kind of primordial egg around it,
you know,we were able to just kind of experience
what Marvellike kind of should have gone, you know.

(08:15):
But yeah, it is weird.
It kind of stands on its own compared toall the other Marvel stuff that came out.
Yeah, it's one of the few things, again, you know, we'll talk about
I felt Aquaman in the Last Kingdomtried to replicate a lot of this.
It's one of the few moviesyou can put modern or rock songs in
and it doesn't feel like, you know, forced on you
because it's part of the DNA,the structure of the story.

(08:36):
Right? And, you know, Peter'salways listening music, music.
So it feels good.
Also, James Gunn's propensity for
practical effects, the aliens look, the aliens look like aliens, right?
Like it
feels like a very lived in universerather than as kind of a sterile universe.
We might occasionally see an alien, but they're mostly human people.
So I think thereand then also the emotional story really

(08:57):
kind of ended on a good note and alsoleaves, you know, these characters
the ability to go in a different wayin the future of Marvel.
So I think that was great.
Mike Spider-Man Ps5We both played this right.
I think you were both on the same page.
You're a great game, great takes.
What we loved about the first oneand just, you know,
I wouldn't say it enhances it too much, but it adds some really cool stuff.

(09:18):
Like the web wings just adds more ofthe same and just continues that streak.
Yeah, whenever I think about sequels,I think usually about James Cameron
when it comes to Terminatortwo and Aliens,
where it's just like,it's the perfect formula.
You give me.
You give me more of the same, but different
enough to justify more of it.

(09:39):
And like Spider-Man two,you just nails that formula.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
And again, if you don't have a ps5or thinking about getting one,
this is a must have game.
I would also recommend playing onein the Miles Morales games to get in here
the next one is a series.
Mike. It's new to me, but it's not.
A new series.
Actually started like 20 I think 16 or so.
It is Taskmaster.
It's a UK serieswhere you essentially there's a Greg

(10:04):
Davis who is a taskmaster, and Alex Horne, who's assistant was actually the writer.
They had these five celebritiesslash comedians
do these over several months, these random tasks, and then they
rank them based on how they didwhen they played the feedback later.
You know, they compile them, they watch it later.
It's a live show.
The comedians are great in this.
The tasks are off the wall is bonkers.

(10:25):
We are just in the COVIDera where we're watching the series now.
So we're on season like 11 or so and likeyou can see like where they're starting,
they had like the the distancingon some of these tasks, right?
So you're like, yeah, this isn't fun,but they pulled it back together.
But you said you've seen it more on TickTock lately.
You now have tick tockSo I actually didn't know about these.
Yeah. Clips. Yeah. Because you were, you were curious.

(10:48):
should this even go on the list sinceit's like, not really rooted in 2023?
And I was like,I think the power of like vertical video
through algorithmshave made me aware of this.
And also we've talked about it beforeon the show, but the comedy streaming
service drop outhas kind of a similar show in a way
of where the show is a little differentevery time there's funny challenges.

(11:09):
And the main goalis just to be funny overall.
And that also really, reallytook off this year due to tick tock.
So maybe the algorithm just knows me.
It just knows what I want towhat I want to see, what.
Was, what was the other show
we added this yearwhere it's got the guy running the the,
the three people at the podiumand I download it.
You said drop the is drop out.
Yeah. Game changer game name of the game.

(11:31):
Yeah. Okay. Game changer.
Yeah that was that was a fantastickind of can add to
and they came them but yeah I justyou know we are we are
we're not obsessed with taskmasterlike enough but like it's, it's certain
there's a VR game coming out.We talked about that.
I think I sent it to you.
Maybe not on the show our off the air.
So huge.
Huge for us next time we kind of groupother Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

(11:53):
mean Mayhem Spider-Manacross the Spider-verse two animated
you know just
huge movies make this year really
across Spider-verse had a lotto come off of right The first movie.
So that had a lot of weight and shoulderssucceeded beyond our wildest dreams
somehow. Yeah, I would.
I would almost sayjust as like a special recognition

(12:17):
recognition what we're about to for likejust a notable
one that we left off that would fit inthere is Netflix.
Nimona.
I don't know if you ended up
watching it or not, but I feel like itfits in that same category of,
you know, experlike quotes around experimental animation.
But, you know, driving a unique narrative, not necessarily
appealing to a Pixar or Disney crowd.

(12:39):
So, yeah, this was a great year for animation.
Yeah.
And Teenage Meet Ninja Turtles obviouslyriding on years and years of turtle,
you know, history and lowerlike comic books, the old animated show,
the toys that are even back and being able
to literally give us actual teenagers
voice in this ad with Seth Rogenbehind the wheel
just just a huge powerhouse, they're bringing turtles

(13:00):
back into everyone's mindsfor the first time in a long time.
Huge there.
And lastly, I'm going to say,you know, I don't I don't have a lot of
I don't watch a lot of Apple TV shows, but I think Apple TV
Plus is one of the strongeststreaming services out there right now
with the content that you have.
You have some shows down here on yours.Right.
That we're going to talk about.
Even when you thought aboutthat was like almost two years ago now.

(13:22):
SEVERANCE You know, we brought it up.
But Monarch Legacy of Monsters
is really you know, I love Godzilla stufflike you saw my Plex server.
I downloaded every Godzilla movieknown to man.
Yes, I saw that.
All the old ones just to lookat the different areas of them.
So a huge, huge
Godzilla ex-con coming out.
But legacy monstersreally building this universe out.

(13:43):
But like, not like in a good way.
It's the quality of an Apple show.
You feel the production value.
They're not shying away from the monsters. They have good actors.
You know, they you know, again,Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell in there.
So I really enjoyed this show.
And how is taking this approach to this?
For me, it's just it's just blown me awaybecause it could have
easily been like a throwaway showright at the end of the day.

(14:05):
But Apple, you know, they're stepping up and doing it.
And they also have what was it, Killersof the Flower Moon, I believe, was there.
I didn't watch it.
But, you know, obviouslypeople people do that.
And I believe there was I forget whatthe other movie was, but the Apple TV plus
surprising streaming service for methis year to truly knock out of the park.
But okay, let's go through your list.
We're out of mine.Let's go through your list here.

(14:25):
Yeah,I'll I'll read them off here in order.
I guessI'll group kind of two together of Breath
of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, because I just got to those this year.
So I'll come back to those.
A new show, Chris similar to youwith Monarch Legacy of Monsters, where
I haven't quite finished
it yet as Blue Eyes Samurai on Netflixand that was recommended.
I know you didn't do a record,
but Jason Listening should recommendthat a couple of weeks ago.

(14:48):
Yeah, we have John Wick for Dungeonsand Dragons The Marvelous Mrs.
Maisel.
Ted Lasso Succession, Barbie,Jen V and one piece
kind of running out there TV at the end.
But yeah, I just finishedTears of the Kingdom
like just the other weekwhen we were off of the podcast last week.
So I played both of these kindof groundbreaking

(15:09):
Zelda games for the Switchand this calendar year.
And I was just like,Did you buy your switch?
It was a prime day during the summer.
Wasn't where we found it.Yeah, it was. Like this summer. Yeah.
So I kind of like binge these backand forth and like, weirdly enough,
I kind of wish I got to experience itlike everyone else did.
I think it's actually detrimentalto play them back

(15:29):
to back in my headbecause I think they're too similar.
The games are too similar to likewhen we were talking about Spider-Man
two on the Ps5, you know, beingmore of more but better and different.
I don't think Tears of the Kingdomfor me is different enough.
They give you a fun building mechanicthat's really,
really cool and obviously went viralall over my tech talk.

(15:52):
I was seeing everywhere on Reddit peoplebuilding these awesome contraptions.
I even found a new subredditcalled Hyrule Engineering
and it's all dedicated to people buildingthe craziest stuff.
People have found a way to smuggle these, like propellers out of shrines,
which are things that you load intoand out of,
and they smuggle these components out, which you can build with,

(16:13):
but you're not really supposedto take them out of shrines
and they have like perpetual batteries.
So now there's a challenge out there
where people are trying to buildlike these ultimate flying machines
so they can fly all around Hyrulewithout any batteries, all that stuff.
Super awesome, super crazy, interesting.
I love it, but it's like the same exactgame as Breath of the Wild.
Outside of that, you're going to the same biomes.

(16:34):
You're getting like the same like McGuffinfrom every single one.
It's like a very similar fight, you know, at the end.
So, like, I think Breath of the Wildis a better game,
but I think the the temperature outthere is totally different than me.
People seem to fawn over tiersof the kingdom.
Yeah, and the difference in that is
those are two games on the same consolegeneration.

(16:55):
Right. And Spider-Man, you know, 1 to 2
jumped a whole generation the instant fasttravel right.
You know, it's
I wouldn't say it even has the same DNAlike you're doing the same missions
for the but you have the same mapessentially with a little bit bigger map.
So it's very similar, but,
you know, in that same generation, you don't feel the advancements, Right?
It's the same.

(17:15):
You know, you're running the same engineunderneath it.
Yeah.
And it just it kind of almost just ends upfeeling like a
like a gorgeous amazing for your value, like DLC.
Right. But to me,it was just a little too similar.
But I had fun.
But anyway, that was Tears of the Kingdomand Breath of the Wild.
Chris, Chris, Chris, Chris.

(17:36):
This.
I just found this show like two days ago.
No, yesterday, not even two days ago yesterday.
I halfway through it, Blue EyesSamurai on Netflix.
I was shocked to see so many creatorsout there
throwing this up on their best of the yearlist because this just looked like
another kind of like 3D animated anime

(17:58):
that Netflix has churned outand because they churn out
these type of thingsall the time, I just figured,
this is just kind of throw,I don't have to worry about this.
And usually I hate 3D
like three dimensional animated styles, like our anime styles.
But this is just absolutely amazing is
the story is so good, so interesting.
I it's kind of refreshing to kind of seesomething anime inspired that's grounded.

(18:23):
Like there's no fantasy elementsso far as I can tell.
It's like kind of similar.
If you played the video gameGhost of Tsushima,
where you're kind of lookingat historical Japan, but,
you know, just like any sort of likeaction like movie or cartoon, you know,
they're going to take the libertieswith physics, you know, from here to here.
But it's just great.
The story's so engaging.

(18:44):
I have four episodes leftand it's beautiful.
Like, this should be the gold standardif you're trying to turn an anime
or something anime styleinto like a 3D rendering engine
because they're doing like these gorgeouslike outlines and brushwork
on like the characters, you know, the animation still looks like a rig

(19:05):
animated, so you're never quite goingto capture the magic of 2D animation.
But the visuals on top of the story,it's just super compelling.
This isn't really a spoilerbecause it's the first thing you see
when you boot up the first episode.
But it's just it's just a couple linesof text that get you into the story.
It's all about the 1600s in Japan,

(19:27):
where they outlawed all foreignersand closed all of their borders.
So the only face that you are allowedto see in Japan was another Japanese face.
So the main character we follow is as aas a star, Japanese main character
that was born from a Japanese womanand a like a white European like invader.

(19:47):
So you're following this characterand the trials and tribulations,
but it's like so good.
There's awesome action. It's amazing.
I can't wait to finish the last fourepisodes.
Each episode seems to be roughlybetween 45 minutes to an hour.
It's just it's one of those great, great things where you're just like,
this could have been like, you know, a live action like feature film.

(20:07):
The quality of like,
you know, the writing is so good,so very much looking forward.
And I, you know, I give a shot.Take it to Jason.
Listeners for Jason who recommended mea couple weeks ago he's he's
he had the pulse of thisbefore our last episode two weeks ago.
Tell me about it.
And again like I said,I just had a chance to watch anything
but that shot to himfor being ahead of everybody on that one.

(20:28):
Yeah, props to Jason and I'll kind of pullthe next two together.
Came out earlier this year.
Awesome solid films,John Wick four and Dungeons and Dragons.
I forgot they came out.
I forgot they came out this year, which is not which is not, you know
a slight against them it'sjust they happen so so much has happened
this year alreadyso I won't put it against them.

(20:50):
Dungeons and DragonsChris I was telling you in my opinion
is probably one of the best Marvel moviesthat came out this year,
which doesn't make any senseon face value.
But if you justlook at the DNA of this movie
and it has a Hollywood Chris in it,it has the awesome humor
and actionthat we loved seeing in Marvel movies.
You know, back in the day.
I was to me, Dungeons and Dragonsis the sequel, that there's a movie

(21:12):
that deserves a sequelthe most out of anything
this year, despite, you know, being like, you know,
everything was downbox office, nothing really, really one
overall other than Barbie.
Now, Pam, that's a different story.
But this deserves a sequelmore than anything else.
And to me, this is how you introducea bunch of people on the team to
to foil a plot, somebody bigger than you
hum Rebel Moon And in a proper way,

(21:35):
in a good way where you care aboutthe characters having a good time to see.
Now Chris is showing his hand.
Now you have to stay tuneduntil the end of the episode
to see what he waspossibly even mentioning.
But yes, yes, I forgot.
Yeah. Dungeons Dragons.
I thoroughly enjoyed itand I hope it does get the sequel.
Yeah.
So the next three lump them all togetherbecause they all had their series finale

(21:56):
kind of, I want to say in the spring time, but it was right around the time
the writers strike was kicking up.
So there wasn't.
I feel like there wasn't a lot of ceremonywith them
kind of getting their sign off.But the marvelous Mrs.
Basil from Amazon Prime Ted Lassoand from Apple TV and succession from HBO.
Max, all of these shows were great.
I love them.My wife and I tuned in every single week.

(22:17):
Just a great treat.
I could talk about all of themfor an hour each, but I won't.
But I could recommend all of thoseto anybody that really likes television.
And of course, the juggernautthat was Barbie, this summer.
Love the movie. It's great.
Fun. Fun thinking about Barbie.
And I believe maybe, maybe it was your wife who has a
a sign language person.

(22:39):
Yeah. Version on HBO.
Max That's experimental for that. Yeah.
And an ASL version,
which you might just think like, well, what's the point of that?
If there's captions?
I mean, I don't read sign language.
I'm not a deaf person,so I don't know, I can't explain.
But I got to imagine there'sa different way to kind of enjoy a movie
if somebody signing it to youbased on if you're reading it.

(23:00):
I mean, it's activating totally differentparts of your brain, Right?
Well, and I think again, from watchingGreat British Bake Off,
which is always on our listfor every year,
there was a signer and this season.
Right, for one of the contestants.
And she was deaf, but not like all the way deaf. So,
like you know, the signing helped enhancewhat she could hear at the same time.
So obviously this we're not the directaudience, but I think, you know, 2023

(23:25):
you can add an ACL version to a movie,do it, but it's not hurting anybody else.
So yeah, and I feel like the and I feellike the lift is relatively inexpensive.
I got to imagine that's just likeone day of shooting, you know, get,
you know, coordinate probably some sort ofwardrobe that matches the film.
And I haven't watched it yet,but it would be really cool if, like the
signer, like maybe changed outfits, like based on scenes or something.

(23:47):
This this is a,you know, to to, to belittle them.
But, you know, I feel likethis is like one step away from having it
like, be like a model that signsbased on the words
that you have already entered and captionslike.
Yeah, I wonder I wonder how that would go.
Yeah.
Well, and I think I think you interpretersare very, very important for that.
But like at the same time, like if you want to

(24:08):
maybe retroactivelyadd it to movies, that's, that's one way.
Yeah.
But yeah, if you wanted to go back in Massand do it.
Yeah. Cool.
So, so but I think it's a great version.
Barbie, obviously I, you know, I saw itand I don't, I don't know
if I saw in theaters or not, but anyway,I did see it and so I agree is a fun film.
Yeah it's like I don't want to saynobody saw the success coming
because it was very hyped, you know, had that synergy with Oppenheimer.

(24:31):
But I don't think anyone was expectingjust the kind of nuclear
explosion that went off at the box officewhen Barbie hit you.
Just like in some movies, you just never know
what they're going to doand how they're going to be.
But thankfully, it was both popularand a good movie at the same time.
Yeah.
And then also this summer, Chris,we watched we watched one piece.

(24:52):
We talked about that. We really loved it.
Looking forward to season two, doesn't seem like
it's probably going to hit in 2024,unfortunately.
So I downloaded Netflix's Outtake of YouYou hookup show as well.
You you have a show?
yeah. I've only seen it written.
So thank you for letting me know becauseI've heard good things about it as well.
It's only one season.

(25:13):
It's not a multi-season show,so I'm going to watch it
because of how good one piece wasand surprise me.
And then also
not to not to steal one piece of thunder, but we also have the Avatar,
The Last Airbender adaptationcoming up next spring, I think next month.
I think it's January or February.
I think I think maybe I could be wrong,but I feel like
it's it's going to be soon.

(25:34):
I'm going to pull it up here real fast.
February 20 seconds, two months, two months. We're two months away.
So yeah, absolutely.
So Netflix so surprisedthe hell out of us with with one piece
and I'm going to give them somesome benefit of the doubt
on their upcoming showsto see how they do with that.
So yeah And then finally, Chris, you've told me now
twice, maybe three times, that you will never watch.

(25:55):
This just seems to be based on principle, not necessarily content.
Finish the show before you build outworlds like this.
Like I just want more.
More the boys.
I don't want boys. Spinoffs.
Like we have the boys Mexicocoming out too, in Geneva.
I'm sure it's great.
Maybe I'll I'll watch itone day when it's all done,
but I would like to just havethe regular show going on, if you will.

(26:17):
Well, the great thing about GenV, which I did watch
my wife and I watched this week,we were able to binge it.
I don't think I would have preferredwatching this, you know, week by week or
two episodes each week.
I don't remember how it was released, but bingeing, it was a great model for us
because we you can take it downand one day, one weekend,
you know, eight episodes, you know, giveor take 45 minutes to an hour.

(26:39):
So we burned through it pretty quickly, but we had a good time.
You're you're solidly back in the boysuniverse, right?
You know,
you're following different characters, you know, in a different structure, but
you're getting like the samesocial commentary, you know, a extremely
adult themes and gore bodies exploding, guts and blood going everywhere.
So you're getting all that stuff that, you know, is very visceral from the boys,

(27:03):
but kind of from a different angle, which is interesting.
And I always love how the boys
never shies awayfrom the inconvenience of superpowers.
Right.
You know, if you're going to be able
to do this, like otherworldly thing, you know, there's a double edge
to all of those swordswhich comes up into the season.
I thought the cast is pretty good, pretty fun.

(27:23):
The story really kicks off.
You think you know whereeverything's going to go.
They're putting all the chess piecesin place and then they blow it all up.
You know, at the end of the first episode, which is exciting and makes you want
to watch more.
If I had to recommend it,
you don't have to watch it.
They are bringing. In carefully now.

(27:43):
Hopefully you don't have tobecause I'm mad.
They are bringing in charactersfrom the last season of the Boys, so
some of them feel shoehorned in, whereassome of them feel extremely organic.
So it's a little iffy depending
on which kind of characteryou're getting a cameo from.
But there's a great segmentI thought about you, Chris.

(28:04):
There's a there's athere's a soup that has a skit
like a schizophrenia type of thing goingon, an injury.
Yeah, Yeah.
And every once in a while
they perceive realityas kind of puppets like, think Muppets.
so there's this, there's
this whole segment where, like, the SWAT team comes in and he dismembers

(28:24):
all of them, like he's
literally ripping heads off, limbsoff, ripping people in half.
But he's but it's all happening in Muppet.
So like a limb gets torn offand there's like this shiny
red like glitter and streamersthat come off of them.
So at the very least,I think you could look maybe that scene up
on YouTube or,you know, pull it up on your Amazon Prime.
I'm sure you could have.
Yeah. A quick Google would.I don't do that.

(28:46):
I don't. Know.
I've got to pay $3 to watch itwithout commercials starting next month.
My comment was.
yeah, I forgot that that's coming through.
So yeah, maybe binge it while you can,but without spoiling anything,
I don't think you have to watch itbecause they are setting some things up
at the end of the first season, but it'snot clear if that is to lead into the boys

(29:07):
or if that's to lead into season two, because the world is pretty,
pretty connected. Sobut I had a good time.
I had a good time watching it.
If you're into the boys, obviously watch it.
But you know, Chris,if if it's somebody like you that just
just doesn't have the time in the day,you know?
Okay, that's fine.
Yeah. Yeah.
And I get I'm sure it's great.
I'm sure it's fine.

(29:28):
I just don't watch it yet.
Like,I'm sure we'll get around to it later, but
until then, we'll figure it out.
But overall, pretty okay.
Yea, there's a lot of contentthat we didn't name
it just kind of came off as mediocre.
I don't want to spend, you know, anything.
You know, there'sa bunch of disappointments this year.
I would say for me, Secret Invasion wasprobably the biggest kick in. The teeth
kick inthe teeth, more like kick in the nuts.

(29:48):
So thankfully, Lokikind of made up for that a little bit.
But, you know, overall, just kind of
there's a bunch of messed up.
This has got to take over tooover some of these highlights.
If you guys have highlights of your ownthat we didn't cover
are forgotten about because literallywe cannot keep track of our years.
Well, there's no I'd love to hearfrom you guys so you should just
choose messenger or targets or whatever,But let's get into the news.

(30:11):
The first thing is
I kind of sent this to youbecause I didn't know how
to put in the notes or not, ButI've been keeping notes past two weeks.
One of them is that Warner BrothersDiscovery is possibly
in early conversationswith Paramount to merge even further into.
boo, come up with another idea
Capitalism like so like I get it.

(30:31):
Like I can see the writing on the wallthat paramount plus
you know might not existbut just because you're a movie studio
or you know,
an entertainment studio doesn't meanyou have to have a streaming service.
Like just make content and sell it like.
Sony. Does.
Netflix will buy it.
Yeah, Sony is doing just fine.
Sony makes some really great stuff.
Sometimes I'll turn something on thatI haven't seen in a while

(30:53):
or a lot of Christmas movies that I liked.
This year I turned on and the openingtitle was like Sony, and it's like,
yeah, they are a really good companythat doesn't have a streaming service.
Yeah, yeah.
So, so it to me is sells themselves, you know, HBO Max
despite you know how much wewe are against them
this year they are they are sellingsome of their content right.

(31:15):
Streaming some of their stuff out
Merry little Batman was on Amazon Primeand they owned DC
and I think some of the Zack Snyder stuffis now maybe on Netflix or something.
But the problem withthis is Paramount is a huge company.
They own a lot of stuff more than just, you know, streaming things
and they make movies. They've been around forever.
I believe they own some television stuff.

(31:37):
I'm trying.I'm trying to pull up what they own.
Paramount.
That's well, now, since they werewith there with Viacom now.
So you're thinking like thisis going to be Star Trek, Nickelodeon,
you know, SpongeBob, thingslike I think Comedy Central as well.
Yeah. So they own they own a bunch oftelevision channels and stuff like that.
So if there is a merger betweenessentially what was one, two to now,

(32:02):
three media companies will probably beI'm very critically from the FTC.
They're probably gonna be like,no, you can't merge.
You're going to be too big close.
You know, I'm
I wouldn't say monopoly length, butit's reducing competition in the market.
So I feel this, you know, Warner BrothersDiscovery, I think, barely got passed.
I think this is going to be one
that's going to be on the cuspof probably not happening.

(32:23):
And also, I know having the X-Menhang out with The Avengers
isn't enough of a reason for a companyto buy another company, Right?
You know, there's no reason people shouldbe cheering in the streets for that.
But there's nothing even close to thatwith this.
It's like, what? Awesome.
You know, franchise synergies do we getfrom WB Discovery buying Paramount.

(32:44):
In. Like whatthe maybe the Ninja turtle of Batman
even though they did that already.
But but Fox also had to survivethey couldn't merge their TV channels with
Disney right so there's still you knowa Fox corporation that does the TV
channels and stuff because you can't haveall your TV channels under one roof.
Well, and also didn't
I mean, they're
already pretty closewith some of their properties anyway,

(33:05):
because what's that fighting gamethat I think got disbanded
where you could be likeit was a Smash brothers clone,
but you could be SpongeBobthat fights Batman.
no. That's not so.
That's going on.
Yeah, they will. Going up. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely.
The Nicktoons fighters or whateverit is or something like that.
that's different.No, we're thinking of a different one.
Maybe Collodion has their own fighterthat I believe is still going on,

(33:25):
but it's like the Warner Brothersfighter. Yeah.
Yeah.
It's not rumble verse, but something worse.
Yeah, that's still going on.
That was it was beta, alpha, beta, but it's still going.
Yes. So it's, it's still in the works. But
anyway, but like
a mission possible is also it looks likeit's one of their movies as well.
Like,

(33:47):
yeah, Transformers, you know, tons of stuff here.
So it's
I'm not down with this streaming services.
You know obviously we don't need billionstreaming services.
You don't have to have one.
Obviously, if you're taking money
and just go focus on what you were doingbefore, like.
Right. Making making movies.
So and putting
those are making good movies in theatersso people go see them and you make money.

(34:10):
So I'm not I'm not downwith with this at all.
So but we'll keep you posted
if anything comes out of conversationsthat were there.
This is news as of earlier.
Right before we recorded the company, one known as Entertainment One,
which is owned by Hasbro, has been sold off to Lionsgate officially.
E One

(34:30):
was purchased in training for $4 billionand sold this week for 500 million.
So Hasbrotook a huge watch on this purchase.
E one
Lionsgate now owns 6500film television titles, including
Yellowjackets, The Rookie and Discovery'sNaked in the phrase franchise.
So see, look at this. Lionsgate.

(34:52):
They don't have a streaming service.
They're just out there
kind of similar to Legendary, even though I think Legendary is kind of
in the pocket of another bigger studioin some way, but maybe not officially.
But yes, this is fine Hollywood.
You can just be a studio.
You don't have to like,
like build a server infrastructurefor serving a video with a subscription.

(35:13):
So maybe that'll maybe that's the trend.
Next year. Peoplejust make stuff and sell it.
I believe Lionsgatealso owns Starz, which is
again has their own streaming thing, but it's like an add on package.
So like it does like they don'tjust give you a counter free.
So which is, you know, kind of kind of interesting as well.
They do what they do on that.
So yeah, absolutely.

(35:35):
That's I think this is this is the oneway too one way to do it there.
So yeah it sucks it has roto glossI like I like buying Hasbro toys, but boy,
when they got too big for their britches,it sounds like they they took it.
They took a watch on that.
All right. Let's jump in.
Some actual some news news here, Mike, you haven't
you've not had a chance to finish this yetor even start it.

(35:58):
But what if season two has been droppingdaily for the past nine days?
Today is the final episode dayand I've watched all
but the final episode,so I'm not going to give any spoilers out.
Anything.
But you asked me before thisto bring up a list of episodes to watch.
Yeah, give me likegive me the greatest hits list.
I mean, overall, you seem tobe very positive and I'll just watch all.

(36:19):
They are all great. I mean, they canthey're half hour episodes.
They feel longer than half hour, which is great because
they, they're quickerlike moving episodes.
You're getting a lot quicker in these.
But I will tell you,I am actually compared to my my
everyone knows my complaints.
If you're only just changing onelittle thing about the universe
and everything else looks the same,it sucks.
I did not like the first season two

(36:40):
adds a bunch of different thingsin at different times.
I would say one of myone of the ones that really
was surprising to me, his wife, PeterQuill, attacked Earth's mightiest heroes.
So and I again,
I think I'm asking you this earlieror maybe last night, as I always forget
how many of these regular actorscame back and voiced all these characters

(37:01):
along the way.
So that one's reallyfun because it's essentially
imagine it's a the point of that is
what if Yondu gave Peter Quill to egoinstead of, you know, keeping him?
So what?
What does that whole universe look likestarting from the eighties rather than,
you know, ten months ago,the first episode one of Nebula join
the Nova Corps is very much a BladeRunner style episode as well,

(37:25):
which is you would never think Nebulawould be in the Nova Corps kind of deal.
So that was interesting.
You're going to get a kick out of wifehappy Hogan save Christmas make it.
It's just it's a die hardkind of thing with happy Hogan
at the Avengers timeand it's it's got a fun return.
You know, my wife, who's been watchingthis with me, has said that she has

(37:47):
really, really enjoyed the season as wellmore than the first season as well.
So take it from someonewho doesn't watch this content.
I was like, that's good to hearbecause I'm really enjoying these as well.
One of the
the upside watch yesterday, the next last episode is What
if the Avengers assembled in 1602 Mike, which is actually a comic series?
Marvel 1602 before.
So it was really cool to see one of theAvengers look like, you know, it's not,

(38:10):
you know, like there's an Ant-Manand 1602 What, what does he look like?
Kind of deal Like, what's that look like?
So it's really been, really been a good time.
Like I said,
I've got to watch the last episode, which is combines this all together.
And I believe this is, you know, this is rumor because I'm not watch
it might give maybe a glimpseinto how secret wars will work
since it deals with multiverses and stuff.

(38:30):
So I'm excited to watch this.
I the I will give it a huge, huge credit out to this.
There is an episode six calledWhat If Corey
Reshaped the World and we've talkedabout this one for a very, very long time,
you know, because we've heard about this.
We've seen the artwork, right. For the for this lady.
They actually if you click on it,normally, it does it in the Native

(38:52):
American language, the Internet,They actually recorded it with the actors
in the language of the NativeAmerican tribe that takes place in the.
that's great.
And that's the one where they createda brand new superhero for what is right.
Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
So it's Iroquois Nation, I guess.
So they're speaking Iroquois for

(39:13):
the people there.
Then there's the conquistadors.So they're speaking Spanish.
So the entire episode, minusthe Watcher is subtitled, which is crazy.
And now you can click on
there is an English versionif you want to watch the English version.
But since you were talking
about the ASL version of Barbie,I just want to bring this up.
I'm like, That's a hugethat's a huge success, right?
To to do a whole episodein that language, if you will.

(39:34):
And the actress who voices Devery Jacobs,
she is from Reservation
Dogs and will be in Echo next year. So
very, very, very cool.
And again, just keep keep yourif you if you think the actor
is wasting the character, say it all the credits.
You can actually see the list of actorsvoicing their credit,

(39:55):
voicing their characters at the end, which is really, really cool for that.
So we'll watch the last episode, highlyrecommend and then do two Marvels mishaps.
I wouldn't say there is a on YouTubean unlisted video for the season three of
What If is They like a three minute clipwith the Red Guardian and Bucky.
That you can?

(40:15):
Yeah, just watch the clip.
And I didn't read the text of the tweetso and I was watching it on mute
out of respect of you, Chris, who wastalking about your thoughts on season two.
But I was like, Well, that's obviously Bucky,
but who's this dude driving the car?
Because I can't hearI assuming it's David Harbor's
voice or somethingcomparable to the Red Guardians voice.

(40:36):
It is him.Yeah, you can hear him pretty good.
And then thethe character there is Bill Foster,
voiced by Laurence Fishburnefrom the second movie.
It's a younger version. So.
okay.
So, so if you listen that you hearLaurence Fishburne
and if you waittill the end of the three minute clip,
it says, To be continued, What a seasonthree original series streaming soon.
So either

(40:57):
they've cut this promo for later next yearor they're going to give us season
three a lot sooner than we expect.
Mike Yeah, I mean, I guess
I suppose it depends on how you set up
your animation pipeline, but one of the advantages of animated
content is you can just keep the machineup and running and moving, right?
Yeah.
You know, you don't have to take
especially when it's like this anthologytype of thing, right?

(41:17):
You there's always a componentthat can be moving.
You can always be doing storyboardsor you can always be doing
post-production,or you always been doing writing, right?
So there's somethingthat can always be moving.
So if theyif they like the way that this is going,
you know, they could just always havewhat ifs like on the docket every year.
What's cool is and you mentioned this, remember the episode with

(41:38):
Gomorrah?
Was thatso what if Iron Man crashed into the the
collect nothing of the Collector, the Grandmaster episode.
I want to say most of these wereprobably voice recorded several years ago.
So it's have been sitting on the voiceactors stuff animating it
because I say the animation stylefor season
two looks way better than the first twoas a lot more detail on the backgrounds,

(41:58):
a lot more dynamic in the charactersis still that, you know,
the it's not quite cel shadedbut pretty close to it
work.
But like I want to I don't know how longwe've been sitting on some of these actors
voice lines they've recorded right.
So you know
they may be sitting on the thirdbatch already because
maybe they knewwhat the stories were going to be.
And you know, they canthey can have them phone

(42:20):
in another line or twoif I need them to edit it later.
But I, you know, see if they can keep upwhat they did in season two.
Season three is a very welcome thingbecause these are those were so much fun
to see the characters in different ways,
in different stories, ratherthan just a minor changes along the way.
So I don't think any of these to meare replications of the films.

(42:43):
Mike Like the first season was like, they're like, here, remember this movie?
And they do the movie again.
These are very unique situation,so very thrilled to hear your thoughts
on Do and again, the 30 minutes, you can pop them out pretty quick in a
day as well. All nine of them
are Vengeance five.
Boy, how did I forgotthis was two weeks ago?
Mike Yeah.
Jonathan Majors has been dropped by Marveland Disney after being found guilty

(43:07):
on two of the four counts of
what he was charged for.
The three different thingsall over the place.
I think it was like domestic violenceor I don't know.
It wasn't domestic violence.
It was like some sort of assaultand battery
like third degree, which is like unintentional assault.
I'm only putting this in there.
I don't want any like, you know, defamation claims coming our way.

(43:28):
So I won't be vaguewhy I'm saying these like.
I think like he like,I think like literally he broke
somebody's fingertrying to get his phone right.
Like his girlfriend at the time.
But it was likeit's like unintentional harm because like,
she had his property kind of deallike thing and that's what they like.
But, you know, obviously he'sgoing to appeal these things.
But as soon as literally,
I think, what, an hour after, like the two of the four counts were you.

(43:52):
Guilty had fallen.
They were like, yeah, he's he's out of Marvel.
Yeah.
We you put this bug in my eara couple of weeks ago
that there was a rumor floating aroundthat the reason that recasting kind of
hasn't floated out from the studios is
that there is a provision in the contractthat says they can't recast.
Okay, It must be John.

(44:13):
They can't.
Yeah, they cannot use any other actoras now re casting.
They might be able to with this.
You know, againDisney has all the lawyers in the world.
There could be like there.
Yeah there could be like a maybe likea morality clause or something, you know,
you're like.
Yeah, you are.
You're no longer eligible to work for us,therefore we can do it.
But like, as long as he is,is was king and working for Disney,

(44:34):
they cannot have any other actorbe a king.
So there's no fakeness, No,no false flags as king kind of deal.
But we we were we were talking thatif that is truly the case,
then they cannot recast King in any way.
And they're going to have to pivotfrom a villain.
We were expectingmaybe a leak, an intentional leak
from the studio that that can't happenbecause all I've been seeing since

(44:56):
that news came out was peoplepitching their alternative actors.
And I had seen some good oneslike these were like,
the Internet is coming up
with some good ideas that I thinkcould play like a really good king.
But at the same time,I just keep thinking, these poor people,
they don't know thatthis might not even be able to happen.
So we'll have to see.
So there's like it's kind of like, call me, call and be like, no matter

(45:18):
what happens, there has to be adjustments because
because narratively, the story's just not working.
And all of that stuff is all in processright now.
But now it's.
So are you trying to make a better Kingstoryline
or now are you just trying to makea better storyline
that doesn't have King in it at all?
I disagreethat the storyline is not working.
I think I think they canceledstill make the story work.

(45:40):
But, you know, again, as my notes, you say the current materials
now from from Disneysay that it's Avengers five.
It's no longer Qing Dynastywhich tells me who the association
of Jonathan Majors with the wordKang is now too much for them to handle.
Like they're like, We can't.
We can't wipe away years of this.
Now all of a sudden,
you know, recasting is not going to be,you know, the best way.

(46:02):
So, you know, obviouslymaybe they retitle it,
maybe they replaceKang with the Beyond year,
which is the Secret Warsvillain, actually, rather than Kang
from from the comic books, like someone even more powerful.
So there's a lot of opportunities herefor Marvel to again,
go in different directions.
However, I feel very

(46:25):
not stronglythat they're going to recast it.
I feel like they theythey're going to go a different direction
just because that associationmajors and Kang is too much.
You search, you searched Kang Marvel.
You're only going to getJonathan Majors news from now
on like there'snothing else that can take that over.
And I think one thing that maybe Leanne'salso into the just dropping
Kang entirely is so much is on the linefor the next Avengers movie, right?

(46:48):
Can you imagine Marvel releasingan Avengers movie that people like that
just, you know, gets panned againor nobody goes to the box office for it.
You can't release an Avengers
five and get like a middling performanceat the box office.
Like a lot of theI think a lot of the future of Marvel
is going to be predicated on howwell that next Avengers franchise does.

(47:10):
I mean, we'vealways been talking about in the future
they're going to reboot thingsand, you know, get things going again.
You know, start the cash cow all over, which they do in the comic books.
No shade there,
but so much is on the line for gettingall these heroes together again.
You got to make sure everythingis firing on all cylinders.
And I'm just glad iger's backand as I said multiple times

(47:31):
this year that that is the strategywe need to make higher quality films.
And you can see I've already seen so manyso many like YouTube essays
this year are just like recaps of likehow bad Disney
did from a feature standpointfinancially this year.
So I think they're looking they're lookingto rally next year for sure.
I also think again, I still seethis isn't necessarily quality,

(47:55):
but if there was a lot more spacein between everything
this year, we'd have a better yearoverall, like I feel like we're just
being in an inundated with everythingall the time.
In 2023, I'm like,
I don't want to watch anythingbecause I'm I'm tired of watching things.
I want to do something else.
But I don't have any fear of Avengersfive.
You know,
I think that I think they'll be finewith with that the cameras aren't rolling.

(48:19):
We've not had anything else.
There's others.
Obviously, if we look at the slate,if it still holds, are still spaces
for other films in there.
My my eyes are going to be on essentially
who's the Fantastic Four going forward
and then and then Avengersfive after that, because I think those two
those two things need to hit the groundrunning pretty, pretty quickly.

(48:40):
So what we'll take a look at that.
But yeah, obviously,
yeah I don't expect Jonathan Majorsto too to bounce back in this.
Now I will also point out
because I want to I want to be fair,
Robert DowneyJr was in prison and very much in trouble
for a lot of his careerbefore he got Iron Man's rule.
So I'm not sayingthis is the end of Jonathan Majors career,
but I think it's his into Marvel.

(49:03):
So just sayingyeah I'm just saying there are people
who've come back from from
but I wouldn't say worse but you knowsimilar situations right, like
looking at Robert DowneyJr specifically because I think someone
tried to interview him about it.
He's like,look, we've all been we've all been lows.
So news popped up earlierthis week is that this is rumors again
that Marvel is working on a UK versionof a superhero team.

(49:27):
I'm going to Excalibur because it'swhat the comic book name is at Marvel.
Now, mind you,
we since Marvel said they're pulling backon stuff, we've only heard more and more
things are in the works. So I don't know how much of this is true.
At the end of the day.
However, at the end, secret reasonwe did include see
Emilia Clarke's Ghia character, right?
The Super Skrull, if you will.

(49:47):
Dane Whitmanplayed by that Jon Snow actor.
I couldn't think of his name.So Jon Snow actor in the notes.
What's his name?
I think it's I believe it's Kit Harington.
Therewe go. I'm going to put that in there.
Kit HaringtonAnd then also possibly Captain Britain.
And you might be saying, why Captain Britain?
The real Captain Britain, not Captain Carter in Britain.
Mike And do you know why Captain Britainwould be important to includes it?
Does doesn't he have like dimensional.

(50:10):
Multiversal powers Yeah, CaptainBritain in every universe, apparently so.
I don't In the comic books.
That explains why like he's like a like a,I would say like a lightning rod,
but like some sort of like, you know, hey, every universe has to have him to exist
and pull, you know, to pull them all together.
But like, they can easily skip that.I wouldn't care.
Like, you don't need to go into details unless.

(50:31):
The rumors of show launches.
I have two totally different opinionsabout now when Disney plus was first
launching and I feel like we gota new show rumored every single week.
It's nothing but excitementcoming out of me
because I was like, wow, this is exciting.Yeah, what are they going to do?
But now we kind of see what theydid, and I'm like, no. So

(50:52):
they're like,we just said, trying to right the ship.
So if this is, you know, happeningduring the,
the writing,if you will, that might be better.
I mean, we know this is going to go overwell in my household.
My wife loves Kit Harington, so I got tomake sure she gets her she gets her film.
I mean, Kit Harington Emilia Clarke showwould I mean, literally

(51:13):
your Game of Thrones alum?
I didn't even think about putting himback on screen again.
Like you're guaranteed to get eyes on it.
So hopefully it's good and likeyou want it to be good at that point.
But that's you'll get some, you'llget some memes out of that for sure.
Yeah, absolutely.
So that would be the way to do it.
If, if any if any of you can pull offMarvel could pull that off, putting them
both in the show together. Right.
But boy, they really, you know,

(51:36):
I wouldn't think,
well, what do they call itwhenever they like, you know, kneecap
a character like Kit Harington
in the Eternalsreally kind of got kneecapped, right?
Like he really wasn'tdoing a whole lot there.
So we'll see.
We'll see what Marvel has in storefor him.
We're going to jump intothe insomniac leagues for the next thing.
So these aren't leaks.
These are spoilers.
Again, some of this may be true, some of us may not be.
So if you don't hear these are timekids in our shownotes that go ahead.

(51:58):
If not, let's have some funtalking about this.
Make more than we already have.
Insomniac, the publisher of Spider-Man,was the victim of a hacker leak.
They wanted, I think, a couple,
a couple million dollars, I think.
Or they were going to release the data.
And after like a week, Sony Insomniacdidn't have the money.
So the hackers leaked the stuffand it was real stuff.

(52:19):
Mike It wasn't like a blufferor like a fake rat.
It was real.
Yeah, they, I mean, they gotI don't know much about video game
development, you know, and I'm sure every studio has different
file management and versioning and,you know, partitioning of information.
But I don't know what they did, butthey got a lot they got a lot of stuff.

(52:40):
It was something about they were hostingcredentials from somebody
and access to the servers remotelyby pretending to be somebody else. So
yeah, it was a couple a couple terabytes,I think six terabytes
worth of stuff to go through files, videos, folders, gameplay stuff
and we'll talk about it here.
But so first and foremost,I think one of the cool things, Mike to me

(53:01):
was Spider-Man 2.5 or whatever.
It's a video game coming out, a sequel,Spider-Man two, like the Miles game,
where you get to play with Venom, Milesand Peter in one game coming late 2025.
Yeah, that's the first time hearing anyany additional detail about it because
I just saw like a lineup of releasesand it just said Venom 2025.

(53:22):
So I was trying to imagine a whole gamewhere you're just playing
that segment as venom
and I suppose you could flesh it out moreand make it a little bit more specific.
But that venom portionwas pretty on rails.
They didn't really want you to do more
than what exactlythey wanted you to do as venom.
So, yeah, I am kind of curious, you know,I guess, you know, the symbiote presence

(53:43):
could linger.
You know, it'skind of an infection on the city.
And I, you know,
I could easily narratively see,you know, part of it lingering around.
So this is going to be huge spoilersfor Spider-Man two.
So if you not finish Spider-Man two, please don't listen to this.
Mike.
There's a carnage storylinethat probably it's probably carnage.
If I'm going to be honest, like the sequel, this would be a carnage

(54:04):
spinoff and the symbiote would probablystill be the one that's attached to
what's his name? Harry.
It could maybe someone has saidthere is it
jumps to to the who's the photographerthe actual.
Flash. Thompson No, no, no.
Flash was the bully who was.
my. Eddie Brock. Eddie Brock.
It would jump to Eddie Brock,
and that would be the new venomtrying to take down carnage, if you will.

(54:28):
So, yeah, I could see.
I could see that.I mean, either way, like they.
Said, that kind of is pretty heavy.
And that side mission, it'snot a main mission statement.
Anything is not part of the main storyfor Spider-Man three.
And it's following the similar formulathat they did in the first Spider-Man,
where you do
get a taste of miles and you even do getthere's a whole mission with Miles, but
you don't see, you know, the presenceof his Spider-Man until his very own game.

(54:52):
So if we're kind of followinga similar pattern here,
it does make sense that, you know,we could be seeing that
in the next version. You know, I'm down for it.
Yeah, I'msure they'll charge close to 70 bucks.
no, it right here is $50 target.
Right there is what they said. They want a $50 game like.
So that's even.
That's even.
So we're probably looking atabout a similar length.

(55:14):
Yeah, that Miles. Exactly.
So they already got the character models, they already got the venom attacks.
This would not be
have you left right to create a new gamejust a bunch of different,
you know, scenes throughout the city,if you will.
They've already got the playground.
So I think this would be nota very far stretch or
this could have been maybe cut stufffrom the main game, if you will.
So a $50 target similar to Mileswould lead into Spider-Man three.

(55:35):
So let's jump into Spider-Manthree notes here.
And that isI've got a little document here that came
exclusively from this leak, Mike,and that's Spider-Man
three is looking to releasea two part game,
one in 2027 and one in 2028 at $50 each.

(55:56):
Yeah, there's that.
So much the pull apart from that, right?
I mean, this is unique.
We haven't seen this happen.
I feel like in video games with a part oneand a part two slot it
I mean obviously there's plenty of gamefranchises out there where
it's pretty heavily hinted that you'regoing to have sequels in the future.
But, you know, that takes a lot of development time.
This kind of seems like
they're approaching it from like,we're going to make one massive game.

(56:20):
We're going to put everybody at Insomniac
on this bad boy, make it as big as possible,
and then we'rejust going to split it in half.
And selling it for 50bucks is interesting as well because
what is that telling your audience, Right?
Because I look at $50 for a video gameand I think, I'm not getting a deal.
I think I'm getting a smaller game.

(56:41):
It's almost like, let's go to the movies.
And part one of this movies and hourand part two is also an hour, you know, So
that's kind of it's interestingbecause it really,
if you think about it mathematically, they're getting $100 out of me
to kind of play one narrativethat's getting split into two games.
It's kind of another wayto look at it as well.

(57:01):
That is one way, depending on how the narratives are.
The other part of thisis there's a multiplayer portion
that will launch with part one.
It'll be the first timeSpider-Man has a multiplayer portion.
So you get part one,any multiplayer multi-player
game all in one go here, which would be,you know, day to day with that.
So we've come with part one, which is great.
This is also again, you mentioned a quick way to to sell more.

(57:23):
If you look at this chart, they actually updated
the units based on how many Spider-Mantwo sales they had.
So, you know, net sales for Spider-Man
two were down compared to their Spider-Manthree game base.
But the number of units were,
you know, everything was down a little bitif you kind of look at this.
So they've got the math.
This is how much their companies think.

(57:44):
Like we actually inside in the company, company dollars 92.
So multiple income and then 2029they would combine everything together
into one game for the regular $60 here.
But you know every two yearskind of late to this down to me
one thing you know look at this I,
I would love to try this outas long as they give me a good game.
Right.
I think Spider-Manthe story in Spider-Man is always great.

(58:06):
I just need more stuff to dowhenever I'm done with the main story.
Right. So give me some more.
That multiplayer is a great thing.
That kind of makes me think maybeSpider-Man three is a multiverse game
because we kind of got to teaseout of that.
Yeah, I was just about to mention thatbecause like,
how would you narrativelyget multiple spider people on one map
and in Spider-Man two, there was that side mission

(58:29):
where you're collecting the spider botsthat does hint at a greater spider verse
and there can be a lot of synergywhere this game could be coming out
because I don't think we're going
to get to be getting Spider-verse Partthree this calendar year.
20. 25.
If so, so it gets at least it lets
puts that movie a little bit closerto the release of this game.

(58:51):
Yeah, so the audienceand then players will be familiar
with the multiverse version.
Yeah, exactly.
I think.
I think that's a great add on thatwe would not
normally I would expectto get normally right kind of deal
inspiringmultiplayer game would be fantastic.
A lot of peoplewill be talking about it here
with Yeah.
Overall my concern is we're looking here

(59:11):
27, 28, 29
that's peace six territory.
If you look at the lifespan ofconsoles is my concern.
Do you think Sony is going to try
to use the combo unit, the partone part two combo
as a PS3 or three six launch title?

(59:32):
I can't even I just bought my PlayStationfive and I went over to somebody plays
for a holiday party and they had the ps5like Slim under their TV.
I'm like, I'm alreadyI just got this thing, people.
So I don't want to even think about havingto spend hundreds of dollars
on another machine.
But you, you might not be far off.

(59:53):
Yeah, because the other ones, I mean,
the other one is three years oldat this point.
So over three years old, that would bea nine year old console in 2029.
So at the very least, it could be doinga similar thing of there's a five or
six version.
I don't know how we're goingto get any further in video game consoles.
Again, they'll prove me wrong before too long.
But like at the same time, I just want to,
you know, again,I want to be cognizant of this

(01:00:14):
because we can talk aboutanother game here a little bit,
another game series even that would notnecessarily be on PlayStation five.
It would have to be a PlayStationsix based on based on the year.
So we'll we'll talk about it in May.
But take a look at that graphicin our show.
If you want to Wolverine the gamethat we all want to play so bad, Mike,
and then so much that hackerseven got into Insomniac

(01:00:36):
to get their stuffaccording to the contracts.
If you go through all the data here,Wolverine has to be released by September
1st, 2025 on Ps5.
So we are
a year and a
half year and three quarters awayfrom this game coming out,
which is sad because I want to know, you
know.

(01:00:57):
Yeah, this was this was kind of thefirst way I found out about the leak.
You know, I open up my phone, you know,I open up Twitter
or X or whateverthe hell you want to call it,
and you get a lot of liketrending for you.
And then you have to move onover to what's, like, fully
trending to see what kind of likeis really bubbling over in the zeitgeist.
And I saw that like in the reallike trending tab, like, insomniac's

(01:01:19):
trending Spider-Man is Trending Wolverine.
What's happening here? This isn't even on my recommended list.
And then I see.
And it's just like the Wolverine game.
I was like, Holy crap.
Like, we just barely talk about thison our normal weekly news episode.
I didn't thinkwe'd be getting hearing anything soon.
And then you hear it. That's a leak.
And then, of course, Curiositygets the best of me and all it takes
is just jumping into the hashtagand scrolling a little bit and you start.

(01:01:43):
See video clips.
Yeah, I mean, I saw the link here
and it's dead now, obviously, because I put this up when it came out.
You know, the factthat there is someone as family playable
and that file a playable version, compileit and you're able to actually play it
on your on your consoleif you compile on the death mode is wild.
This is so much this is huge

(01:02:03):
so big Mike, that Internet serviceproviders, ISPs themselves have taken
action against people
who've downloaded the game filesto compile it even.
And that is, you know, even in piracy, like, you know, that happens occasionally.
But like this is like something where like
just the filesalone have caused problems for a game.

(01:02:24):
This one out yet.
And I will tell you I am a curiousyou always get the better me.
I mean I look at stuff before it comes outbut if you want to see this gameplay
that people have compiled and everything, including,
you know, the free roaming, the action stuff, even the story,
the whole plot of this game is online, which, which is crazy.

(01:02:46):
You can just go to.
I typed in Wolverine gameplayand ticktock came up
and here I'm lookingten different clips of gameplay
that people have uploaded already fromnot only what was leaked
but also whatthey've compiled to play as well.
So I didn't bother to look up any storynotes.
I'd rather let that lie, but it's funwatching it and it seems to be the clips

(01:03:09):
that I have seen seem to be compiledfrom almost like a tutorial level, right?
So I don't knowif there's like a separate team
that's like building kind of likethe opening demo that might be at
some sort of video game convention, like coming up in the near future
or the hackers just happenedto come across just that.
But essentially what it is, isLogan seems to be at a bar

(01:03:34):
and then some ninjas come up and kind of
tap him on the shoulderand then shit starts hitting the fan.
You're using stuff I'm not even seeing.
So okay. Yeah.
And then you see a lot of prompts
that show up on screen, that kind of showyou how combat works, right?
You know,I got like this button, like dashes,
you know, this button, you know, slices or whatever.

(01:03:55):
There's also there's a gameplay mechanic, which is kind of cool,
very specific to Wolverineof like following scent trails.
So that's the one that's the one I've seenis so he's like in a flannel.
He can climb up buildingswith his claws and knuckles walls.
Then he goes in and uses like sensesto go through a crime scene essentially.
Yeah.
So, yeah.
And the stuff that I've seen has mainlybeen kind of like brawling combat, right?

(01:04:18):
You know, I don't know
because the combat, you know, the mostcomparable game of Spider-Man, right?
When you get down thereand fighting on the street, it's
not necessarily button mashing, but that's kind of is you know.
You don't hit feel the ferocity of itlike a Wolverine fight with.
Yeah, exactly.
So I'm kind of curiouswhere is the satisfaction?
Like what's the satisfaction, the kind of key secret ingredient.

(01:04:42):
I'm not sayingI don't see it here in the video,
but I'm kind of curiouswhat that X factor is, because every good
every good video game company is kindof looking for that, like dopamine hit
when you're doing that comp combat.
And in Spider-Man, it's kind of chainingall this stuff together, right?
It's doing all these awesome combos.
So I'm seeing that the clipnow in the bar.
And I'll tell you what, this reminds me of God of War.
This is 2018.

(01:05:03):
2022 is God of war in a nutshell.
Like it's your slow, your purposeful, the hits matter when you hit them.
You can see the damage being done to them.
And he's got some quick moves, right?
Because obviouslyhe can jump and pounce around quite a bit.
But like this is very much,if you like, the God of war,
the new games, this is God of war gameplay like.
And I'm I'm curiouswhat the level design is going to be like.

(01:05:23):
Is it going to be pretty on rails becauseyou've played the God of War games?
Chris Those are relatively on rails.
It's really open.
World.
It's a mixed matchbecause there are open world portions,
but there are on rails portions as well. They're going new towards submission.
So gotcha.
Yeah, I would say from what I've seen fromthis is very much, you know,
there is a mixed match
like you're in a city, but like, you know, you don't have full access to the city,
but you've got likea small section of the city.

(01:05:45):
So, I mean, look at more of this.
I mean, there's no way I could play this,but I mean, I
boy, my hype level through the rooffor this game more now, more
now than it ever was.
And we only saw one trailer years ago.
Yeah.
It's like if you if you had to lookat the leak kind of from a point of view,
like, like social engagement,I would say that everyone's lucky
that the hack happened when the game asis impressive enough to look at.

(01:06:09):
Right? Like this looks like fun.
And also I guess people in the video gamecommunity have enough knowledge
to look at something that's leaked and go,This obviously is a final,
you know, visually it's not super impressive
because it's not being a hyperrealistically rendered yet.
So we don't even know what allthat's going to look like.
The time it'sa year and a half time of polish, right?

(01:06:30):
Like that's yeah, exactly.The story's there.
I know that the levels are there.
So they just they have, they havea lot of time to, to, to Vanessa.
And Spider-Man
literallyis one of the most polished games
I've everI've ever played at the end of the day.
So I'm very much looking forward to this.
And so because we'll look at golook at what
we're not leave anything here but golook it up.
I think I think that's great stuff.

(01:06:51):
But my Wolverine is the stepping stoneto something bigger,
and that is a three game contract
for the X-Men franchise for Insomniac
with the we have a slide here link to herethat shows the licensing terms.
Not only are the platforms,
the the monetary commitments, the releasedates, the exclusivity,

(01:07:12):
the royalties and the terminationrights all in one go. So
we always said we wish we had
I wish we had the Suffer moviesrather than just video games,
because this is what we're always lookingfor, right?
This is the details we want to knowas we're making, I guess is here.
But it is confirmedthat Insomniac has a three game
X-Men affiliated titles.

(01:07:33):
I think with Wolverine being the first one
and then up until 2035, the end of 2035,
12 years from now to this week.
Mike, they can make these games for that.
Yeah, these video game timelinesare like crazy to think like what?
What am I even going to be doing in one,you know, in 12 years?

(01:07:55):
I mean, hopefully, knock on wood,I'm here to to check it all out.
But yeah, I didn't even considerthe possibility that, you know,
it looks like insomniacis just being very, very successful.
Like Marvel seems to really likethe partnership enough, you know, that
the entire cast of the X-Men seems to bein their purview moving forward.

(01:08:16):
It doesn't necessarily meanany of this is confirmed,
but it seems likeit's the way that they would like to go.
the biggest question I have islike whenever you play a game
with a large cast of characterswith different power sets,
you know, that'sa totally different type of game, right?
You have to make a very specific typeof game that fits that mold.
You know,
are we looking at likean ultimate alliance type of thing

(01:08:37):
where you're just running aroundand like bashing stuff or,
you know, are they going to try to,
you know, bring the characters in lineenough to where you could be
paying, playing a campaignand like swap between them?
You know.
My understanding is that the Spider-Manand X-Men Games live in the same universe.
So if there are some alternatedifferences. Right. Right.
Between Wolverine and some of thecharacters here, I would be interested.
I would entertainto see what some of the are like.

(01:08:59):
I would you know, what I if I if I havean excellent game building thing.
And one of those, Mike, is multiplayerlike a story, a campaign
with multiplayerbecause yeah, I could play as Wolverine,
you could play a Cyclopsor we have a storm or an ice man, right?
But like, I don't want it to be limited, like Ultimate Alliance.
So what?
I love the ultimate alliance games. You were with me when? About the last one?
Actually, I love them, but like, you'revery limited what you can do, right?

(01:09:21):
Because there's only so muchyou can do with so characters. So
do you want to focus on like four people, five people like the original X-Men?
Do you want to get a different characterset in
how house this house is goingto, you know, kind of flow into this?
Because I'm interestedto see what they do with it.
But like, boy,
you know, we're going to have a XP gameby 2030 is that Pierce lives up to six.

(01:09:42):
I don't know.
But like, I'm excited to know thatwe're going to get an X-Men game at all.
Is that far
is that far enough along to where thatthese characters could be crossing over?
Right.
I Would love to drop into New YorkCity like, you know, Spider-Man three,
like as Wolverine.
That would be cool.I mean, he's got the claws
to where he could traverseup the sides of buildings.

(01:10:02):
I mean,
I don't think it would fit the characterwholly for him to go all the way up
a skyscraper, because that doesn'treally feel like a wolverine thing to do.
He's more of a street level brawler.
But, you know,it could be cool on like a mission
or something like thatwhere the confines make more sense.
Well, I.
Think I think you put Spider-Manin a Wolverine level more than Wolverine
or Spider-Man, if you will, because, you know, Spider-Man could live in there.

(01:10:25):
But like, you know, you know,
if insomniac is alternating Spider-Man,X-Men, Spider-Man, X-Men, you know,
I think we're in for a good 15 yearsof video games here from this company.
This is. Great.
I mean, since we're kind of comingto a close here on the hack,
we should say up top,the one thing that we did leave out,
which is really I mean, obviouslythis is unethical for hackers to do.

(01:10:47):
It's not like insomniac is the villainor any way and we're rooting for it.
But the hackers did also liketake personal data from employees.
And obviously that's bad.
Like, we don't we're not likewe're not looking for more hacks
or wanting this happenmore often. But Like,
come on, like hackers, like I mean, likeleave leave the employees alone.
That's like, really shitty, you know? Yeah.
We love a good information leak.

(01:11:09):
Write about content, not the people behind it.
Yeah, we don't need that.
Like, we love talking about the games. We love talking about the games.
We get to play the content, movies, TV shows,
but like the people behind it,
they're they're just employeestrying to get by in their lives.
They're not the people lordingthis over us right at the end of the day.
So I absolutely agree.
So hopefully, you know, maybe insomniacthey they came out and said,

(01:11:31):
you know, we don't condone this.
We're sad,you know, things are going to do this.
But like they're going to keep movingforward.
And I'm like, well, that's really all you can do at this rate.
So my onlybut the only thing I hate about all this
and I hate this for any, any console, anyanything, is that it's exclusive
to the PC PlayStation
systems when every game should be acrossevery console on the same thing.

(01:11:51):
Like I feel any game at all should be onevery console you want to play it on
so you don't have to buy both of themlater on if you want to play something.
So I think the exclusivity of Insomniac, even though is on my position,
is a kick in the face.
But you know them being able to focus onone game and one console
out the best, that's we just we just wantgood games at the end of the day.

(01:12:13):
So hopefully we can get some exclusivityissues
resolved later, later in life.
But we're going to stay in X-Men worldfor a second
because the X-Men 97 titlesleaked for the upcoming
TV series on Disney Plus, which is coming out in 2024.
And the biggest thing here is, you know, none of these give away any weeks.

(01:12:34):
None of thesetell me anything about these shows
except there's a three part finalewhich is standard in actually
most of the X-Men animated seriesbecause a lot of them had two or three
pilot episodes in that old show,if you remember.
Yeah, yeah.
These titles feel very much like X-Men97 titles.
You know, X-Men in the ninetieswas kind of very dramatic,
which is why it kind of stands outand holds of the test of time

(01:12:57):
because it was an adult narrativekind of geared to children.
But we got well, let's see here too.
Me and my X-Men Mutant Liberation beginsremember it.
So I will. Say Tolerances, Extinction.
Part one, two and three.
Four, five Made Flesh,I think is a sunspot
reference the character sunspotwho can can contain a fire.

(01:13:18):
But there is an episodewhere I think it's Jubilee
and sunspotget transported into an eight bit game
from module world.
that's cool.
And I think it's more Tendobecause that's like Nintendo.
So I think that that's the biggest thingI have out of this.
But yeah, you can pick up where they are

(01:13:39):
now with the arcwhere the 94 series left off.
So to me my X-Men probably is, you know, the emergence of Magneto as a hero, right
kind of deal.
So we'll we'll see these comeI'm excited to watch this hopefully
it lands and keepsthat that vibe going from the originals
It comes out this yearso I'll keep you guys posted on that
dune Messiah Mike is already in

(01:14:01):
the works at WarnerBrothers has reportedly been greenlit.
Warner Brothers, this will be Dune three, if you will.
The second bookand it's eyeing a 2027 release.
And just so people know, this takes placeshortly after the first Dune book,
which is two movies.
So it's much shorter than the firstdo novel.
So it should be very much like, you know, reined in a little bit. So,

(01:14:21):
sure, why not?
If Denis Villeneuve has found his calling, making Dune movies, go for it, right?
Like, get your get your trilogy out of the way.
I really got to get aroundwatching the part one
because they keep making Duneand I have no way to respond to it.
But second, that part two is ready.
March 1st, March 1st coming out.

(01:14:41):
So I highly recommend that I am.
I'm excited to do it.
I'm 20 again.
The Messiah is
one of the hardest booksI've ever had to make,
but I think it's just becauseit's a different story than the other one.
Like, it'snot like the same kind of story, but like,
I think after Messiah they'll probably
get a new castbecause it jumps forward in time

(01:15:03):
quite a bit,or maybe just start making them.
We'll see if they do Dune in
Lion, which in the wardrobe serieshave a lot of similarities in my mind
because they're like the same worldbut like over decades kind of deal. So.
we'll see if they do this.
Like Disney just killed the lionwhich the wardrobe stuff.
So. Narnia.

(01:15:25):
All right, so we're at the discussionof Aquaman in the Last Kingdom.
And I really tell you rightnow, we're going to do a full review.
We're full spoilers because.
We are only an hour and 15 into thisand we have two movies to talk about.
Yeah, we got to wrap up the year.
We have Aquaman and Rebel Moon.
It's going to be yeah, like we said, for full spoilers, I have a feeling
there's not a whole lot of appetiteout in the world

(01:15:47):
to go watch Aquaman in The Last Kingdomand also Rebel Moon.
You can justyou probably pulled up Netflix,
watched itif you're going to watch it already.
If not, there's no there's no reason to golook.
Seek it out now.
But Chris, I sent you a link from one ofour favorite websites, the numbers. Yes.
Where we were using their comparison tool.

(01:16:07):
And I was trying to think of movies
to compare the second Aquamanto box office wise.
So I threw in obviously the first Aquaman, which I think did close to a billion.
I think it's over a billion worldwide.
Yeah. So that was financially successful.
And then I figured out good equivalentmaybe to this year
would be both Shazam movies, right?
I mean, very kind of similar properties.

(01:16:31):
I forgot Shazam two came out.
So yeah, with sequels.
So right now not a good signthat the sequel to $1,000,000,000 movie
Aquaman Aquaman two is trending betweenboth Shazam movies right now.
And you can't quite compareit apples, Apples to apples

(01:16:52):
because they're different release windowsWhen a movie comes out along the holidays
that has longer legs, you almost kind of are giving it like a
one really long,sustained opening weekend.
But once the
holidays are over,like you're talking like 95%
drops, it's not going to be makingany more money if it's not like a
like a James Cameron'slike Titanic or Avatar, Right?

(01:17:15):
Yeah.
So so we are we are two weeks in.
I mean,
so this this hasn't updatedthe second week yet, Mike,
which is kind of weird on the numbershere. I don't know.
People are off, Right.Does this make sense?
Well, it's we're we'retechnically recording on a Saturday,
so we're not quitethrough the final weekend here yet.
And they might be waitinguntil like the second.

(01:17:37):
Well, I mean, it's been up nine days.
So to me, as the new yearstarts, people are not going to the movies
like everyone gets on their their healthkicks right in November or January.
They don't go to the movies.
Like January is historicallyjust a bad month for films, right?
At the end of the day,
there
are exceptions aspects here, but overall, yeah,
I Aquaman in the last Kingdomnot doing so hot monetarily wise,

(01:17:59):
but it is, as I mentionedbefore in the last DCU movie,
which means everybody knows this,so no one really wants to watch it because
who cares at the end of the day, like if they watch us, is it going to do?
Doesn't wrap up the world as a whole.
There's like a Justice League movie with.
Right? Like, you know, where everyone rides off into the sunset.
It's not going in the movie and it's been,

(01:18:20):
what, five years since the last one,I think.
Yeah, I mean, 25 years since last time.
I mean, to be fair,it was attempting to come out sooner.
But, you know, world events, strikes,
litigation between your
your actors, you know, are happening.

(01:18:42):
So a lot hit this movie right throughyou know, different.
Reader three different rewritesI had Batman,
Michael Keaton, Batman Ben Affleckand then no Batman at all
at the end of the day.
So but but I like I'mstarting to get the feeling, though,
like at the core, I don't think this moviehas changed overall.

(01:19:02):
Like, I could see, like,
maybe like cameosor maybe different supporting characters.
But I think overall, the moviethat we have is what Juan was intending,
mainly because a lot more Amberheard than we were all expecting
in this movie, right?
We were thinking like, she's going to die.
And like the first scene, she'sgoing to be sidelined most of the movie,
and we're not going to see her.As she was sidelined. Most of the movie.

(01:19:25):
Yeah, like we are talkingwe are talking spoilers.
So, I mean, like she was like blastedpretty early,
pretty early out in the movie.
And they even show herkind of like in a in a coma if you will.
It's like, okay. It's like, okay, this is it.
She's she's out for the rest of the movie.
We might see her at the show, so.
She'll do a day of smack and I comeand save everyone at the last second.
Yeah, like if that's not really what happens.

(01:19:45):
So it seems like Juan was just like.
And maybe the studio was like,Nobody's looking at this movie.
Nobody cares about this movie.
The the best thing to do overallis probably just to leave her in the movie
because, I don't know, maybe we'll getsome karma points out of it, you know?
Well, I would saywhether she was in this movie or not,
I don't think her participation, this movie affected anything.

(01:20:07):
I don't.
I think James Wan saidthat the focus of the story
was always going to be on Aquamanand his brother ORM
and I can feel like thathas always been the plan
because they're in most of the scenestogether, right?
They have yes. Stuff.
So I believe him.
Like even if there wasn't drama, she would still probably had the same role
she had right at the end of the day.
So I agree with you entirely.

(01:20:28):
I'm going to do a compliment sandwichhere, Mike.
Okay. For this.
And we're going to startwith the compliment.
And then we have a big, meaty, juicy metal.
And then another onewe come from on the bottom.
So the first compliment is James onehas great character designs in this movie,
I think.
Yes, he has the the Nexus Army, the Sea creatures.
There's a lot of sea creatures, including John Ross Davis, as a

(01:20:51):
little crab man from the first movieThe Shrimp Guy,
Martin Short as the King Fish guy.
I had a look upthat was Martin Short doing the Kingfish,
really just love the character designsand making it feel like this is underwater
and everything is based on water designbecause it felt unique to this movie.
It also I hope I'm not ruining your secondslice of bread with this,

(01:21:14):
but it's very similar.
But also the production design, there was lots of like kind of retro
kind of submarine.
I think it's the same thing.
Yeah, his, his, the design workand the characters and the the ships.
I mean, it felt really good, right?
It felt. Whenever. Nice.
Like, whenever we go to kind of like thoseLost Kingdom, like depots or whatever.

(01:21:34):
We're seeing all these, like retro, likekind of dive suits and things like that.
I thought all that stuff looked really, really cool.
So like, yeah, props to, you know, the production
designers, the concept artiststhat, you know,
besides whatever scriptthose people are given, you know,
they just get to do what they doand it doesn't matter what the story is,
they just make cool stuff. Yeah.

(01:21:55):
So I would say the The Lost Kingdomdesigns felt good, the Aquaman stuff,
like everything was pointand felt real to the Aquaman movie.
Like did not take me out of it at all.
Really, really had a good time.
Everything else about thismovie is just boring.
I'm just like, I,I am fine with this movie, Mike,
But like, at the same time, I'm like,I just didn't care because, like,

(01:22:19):
there's a lot of,
you know,we're going to talk about this later,
a lot of like trope stuff in this oneas well.
Yeah,I mean, it doesn't didn't feel original.
Yeah,it doesn't totally your senses in any way.
Yeah.
But at the same timeit's like the movie feels long.
It feels likewe're kind of going in circles.
I feel like I've watched this moviebefore, you know, the relationship,

(01:22:44):
you know, between, Jason Momoa,Patrick Wilson, or, you know, Arthur.
Well, those actors, they nailed, it,I think they nailed the chemistry, but.
There's this, there's this fun momentthat I don't really know if it was a
how intentional it wasor wasn't even really set up the best.
But after,
Arthur rescues ORM from that desert

(01:23:05):
and that big horde is coming at them, youknow, like, let's go run into the ocean.
And I look over at Patrick Wilson.
I was like, Why is he running like Naruto?
Why is he running with his armsdown his side?
It looks really, really weird and like, they don't mention it at all.
And I was like, okay.
Then later in the movie,
when they're running away from the,the CGI just goop on screen,
which is just these plants coming to life, which is like I was thinking.

(01:23:28):
It was a grasshopperit was a. Big gulp. Yeah, it was dumb.
But then also there's like plantsalive, too.
Like he's also running with his arms down.
And I was like,What are you doing like that?
And then was like, I don't read much.
I was like, yeah, that does make sense.
That is an interesting, funlittle tidbit to this ocean creature
that really never goes onland, doesn't know how to run.
I thought that was clever, but you know outside of like,

(01:23:50):
very few moments like that.
Yeah, it's just like boring.
The part, the part in the filmwhere they're at like a,
like a little supply depot.
I want to say it's about halfwaythrough the movie. Yeah, they're. Trying.
It's the hidden scumand villainy hive as well I think.
Yeah.
That so that part
happens andthen kind of can't remember what happens,

(01:24:11):
but they're like fighting off
the bad guys at like this, like Supply Depot or something.
And I'm just like, this movie's got to almost be over, right?
Like Black Manta like shows upand they're having like a fight.
And something's going, Hey, that stuffwill blow up and then it never blows up.
I was like, Did you even call it outthat it's going to blow up?
And then there's a wholenother hour left on the movie.

(01:24:32):
I'm like, my God, come on.
So it was it was. It's too much.
The the the the the MacGuffin, the
I guess there's a coupleof different things, but the fuel source.
So I am totally fine with thingslike climate change,
you know, and human just influenceon the planet driving narratives.
Right. It makes sense.

(01:24:53):
You know that's what's happeningin our real world right now.
You can't ignore it.It's going to make it into our movies.
And sometimes it makes a lot of sense.
But like,
this was so heavy handedand so dumb of like, are you telling me
this magical king who has the ability
to seal like a demon away for eternity?

(01:25:14):
The magic is just iceso there's no future.
So somebody could have just like. No, it's not future.
Like, it's.Just like I said, was board member.
They actually answeredthat question for you.
And the thing is like. But the.
You can't meltthat you still need the blood.
But it's just like
you never would have even been ableto find it to begin with if there wasn't.
But 90% of the movie was like,We need to melt that so we'll be free.

(01:25:36):
Not that.
Hey, And then the final that like, it'sactually blood ice.
Yeah.
And then black man is like burning that
green gas, like green crude oilor whatever it's supposed to be.
That was such a dumb thing. Like.
Like you don't need to go,
to the point of, like, we're an audience
that have already accepted the existenceof, like, this underwater world.

(01:25:59):
These, like,advanced technologies and spacecrafts.
I don't need to be told that they need gasand they need special gasoline
that we have to go.
HEIST Like, that was just a weird thingto add to the movie, to drive the villain
through it.
I thoughtI thought the special gas was interesting
because like, theythey're their machines run on.
This is what I was,
you know, they say initially like, hey, are antique machine guns anti fuel?

(01:26:23):
I didn't think they were going to burn it.
I thought were going to build an armywith it. Like.
Yeah, they.
Kind of put a spin on itin the wrong direction.
Yeah, you need to burn it.
You just needs to like fuel, like your machines that like because also
some of their machines were pretty cool, like the little tentacle dude.
So I'm like, that. Yeah, they look pretty fun.
Yeah, they look cool.
Like, but like, I don't need to know whatpowers like, we're already in this world.

(01:26:46):
There is so much exposition in this movie.
Like, literally, I can't believeI can watch the guy who's in
Wandavision and Ant-Man.
Randall Park. Randall Park Ski doctorwho's like, who's.
Also in Blue eyes, and.
He's talking to the voice recorderas things are like being played over it.
I'm like,
this feels as exposition so bad, like,I don't need to hear those.

(01:27:07):
And he's like, You gotta be careful.
We don't know how many people are here.
You're going to get attacked.
Be careful with that. It'sgoing to explode.
I'm like, Shut upand just let them do it. Like, good.
Like they're professionals.
It feels like reshoot no city, right?
They're like that.
We're we're losing the audiencein the test screenings.
Get Randall Parker there, everyone.Nobody knows what's happening.
Why we got to.We got to have voiceover stuff.

(01:27:27):
How did what happened betweenthe first movie and the second movie?
That black manto a amassed a cartoon villain army like?
He was very much on his ownin the first film.
He got a little bit of help from armwhich they even bring up in this film.
Or I'm like, when I worked with them, like he was, you know,
he was vengeful, but he wasn't crazy.

(01:27:49):
So all of a sudden now he has a goonsquad, a dispensable goon squad
who's like the second in commandlike that.
That was their.Star Trek redshirts, essentially.
Yeah.
She might as well had a mustacheand been twirling it. So.
So I was like,Where did these people come?
Like, explain that, Explain them to me.
And I just
that the mysterious gasoline, why thesepeople are willing to die for black man.

(01:28:10):
I don't think it needs to be explained.
I think what they did was the orderthey they
they start the movie with like he'sdrinking Guinness.
Do you know the aqua manlike a Guinness Mike?
Because boy, doeshe like Guinness with his dad.
They have a baby. I'm like, okay, great.
I don't need that sort of moviewith Randall Park finding the stuff
and then saying, it's been four years
since he had the staff, because if you had four years to do this.

(01:28:31):
Yeah,he could be using that staff to either
mind control because or yeah, convince himthat he's a badass.
Yeah. Or he's like, he's like, Yeah,I will kill you if you don't join me.
Kind of deal or I will pay you whatever.
I'll give you a place in my new world.
But like, they're like, everything happened in five months.
And the first thing I thought of,which I don't normally think of in
superhero movies, iswhere the hell the Justice League

(01:28:52):
should Supermansee this big green volcano?
Should he be able to hear and see thisand take take part of this rather than
relying on Aquaman to do it in the waterbecause it was above water
like everyone sees it,you know, is happening.
Batman is a scientist.
He knows what's going on here.
I know what the whole timeI was thinking, too, I was like,
Is this at any point going to tieinto the flash ending bonus scene?

(01:29:15):
Like where Arthur'slike a drunk in a puddle like that?
Didn't really seem to come up at all.
So I don't I don't need the watch becausethis is the worse in the credit scene.
And we were seen in the moviewhere he does, but it wasn't John Berger.
Yeah, but it was just kind of weird of
just like I was making methink of the Flash.
I was like, Well, you these peoplehave seen the Aquaman movie, right?
It's been done. Yeah.

(01:29:36):
You know, that that, that after creditscene does not line up to the movie
all like, why did you even include it?
It would have been an easy lift out of it.
So that was that was kind of bizarre.
But like the whole thingand they were like, the world is
is is suffering.
Why are the world superheroesnot helping in this situation?
Like.
Right, Like Wonder Woman,
Superman and Batman would be involvedat some point in this, you know, Hell,

(01:29:59):
I don't even give Cyborg a cameoif he wanted it in this one.
He was Ray Parker's busy. He's busy.
I also have notes here.
Ray Fisher.
Spike.
Ray Fisher, Black Panther vibes, wherehe's like, You want to be king?
You're like,You know, you suck at being king.
And, you know, we have a councilto determine who the Kings are.
Like, it was very much, you got Black Panther on the nose on.

(01:30:21):
This Iron Man vibes at the endwhen he's like talking to.
The King.
I am Aquaman.
But also Black Panther, where they're like.
Revealing to the world. Yetthat was the part like or.
So it's
just like I thought the world kind of gotwind of them in the first movie, right?
Like,I thought that was kind of coming out.
If not, it's fine.
But it was the exact same way that BlackPanther did, like do it a different way.

(01:30:46):
And then lastly, Lord of the Ringsvillains,
the The enemy king felt like Sauronin the one ring.
The Green staff was like the one ring.
And then like the guy he wasfreeing was like, Yeah.
Yeah.
Speaking of the villainI will give the movie
a little bit of creditfor at least giving me
a somewhat uniqueending to the final fight, right?

(01:31:07):
You know, I was expecting like Oramand Arthur to team up
and just like trade blowswith the green glowing king or whatever.
And then they, they finally come together as brothers
and then overwhelmthe king and beat them up.
And it kind of happens, but not really.
Not that like, not the way you think it would. Yeah.
Yeah.
Where the trident's thrown, he catches it,but then Aquaman

(01:31:30):
throws another tridentwhich his brother, you know, hands him.
But then he just like he nails the shot.
But like that also, like, didn't doesn'tnecessarily feel earned because it's like,
is that all it takes to defeatthe villain is just having better aim.
But at least it was honest.
It was unexpected. Very.
It wasn't like a beat down

(01:31:51):
kind of thing that they just wentthrough with Black Manta
because they just did the fightwith Black Panther.
I would guess a similar to thethe unexpected.
I mean, even Aquaman comments on his own movie
where this special council shows upthat stops
that stops the all powerful kingthat we are told that he is.
And in the first movie, like even hintslike, I didn't even know they existed.

(01:32:15):
It's like, yeah, you are a surrogatefor the audience right now.
The council is dumb and stupid,
and the only reason they exist isit gets you out of the kingdom.
You. Yeah. To get away from here.
I mean.
It's just so stupid.
The other flawI will have on this. No stakes,
No one die.
No one died at the end.
Even his death, his stakes was.
The whole planet.
Didn't you see himburning the fuel in the volcano?

(01:32:38):
They blew. It was.
They blew up the volcano.
It's fine raising the temperature,but they didn't.
They didn't melt the iceberg enough.
And actuallyhad they use a missile to blow it.
But but like, they were like, I'm like,we've seen that shot where we're like,
the kid's
going to die or the dad's going to die,or Mario was going to die or Mother,
No one died.
No one even had enough damageto stop them from doing anything.

(01:33:00):
Bay Sideline Mirror Nicole Kidman
has never looked worse.
I hate to say that about her, like it's not her fault, but like
they didn't do her any justicein this movie, Right.
By helping her out.
And they sidelined her the whole timeby saying like, I need to be with
a, you know, dude on this on the landwho's recovering who was fine.
So nothing really changedat the end of this movie.

(01:33:21):
And that was disappointing.
Yeah, I would love what I would loveto see out of this movie.
These, this duo, the one because,
no, I
want to see like, 40 years in the future.
Hopefully I'm still alive and kicking.
I want to see discussions on a forumsomewhere of, like, teenagers

(01:33:42):
discovering the two Aquaman moviesfor the first time,
totally out of context, not knowing thatas part of a larger universe
and we can just get some impartialopinions of people
that have only watched thesetwo Aquaman movies in a vacuum.
You know, they pull out, they pull it outor whatever the they're equivalent
of like a Walmart bin is in the future, you know, a double feature.

(01:34:03):
I don't know if it's like an SD cardthat you're putting on like air headset.
I want the.
VHS versions of this mike to watch on myYeah.
Player Yeah, but I mean, I guess what now
we can just wax a little poeticallyabout the end of the DCU.
I saw everyone online was saying what?
What a perfect ending to itwith that end credits scene of

(01:34:23):
or meeting a cockroach in a burka.
Yeah well to me yeah the thing I wouldI would probably say my
my last piece of bread
mike on the bottom that's going to supportthis is number one
this is truly a standalone moviedespite me
saying that we should badminton,we should agree on one and two.
You don't need to watch anything elsein this universe to understand
just these two movies.

(01:34:43):
And James one help through that.
Even though it went againstwhat Zack Snyder showed in Batman
v Superman or Justice League. Right.
Without the air bubblesthat they have to talk in, he
he he stayed true to his visionand he he nailed it through that.
Also they actually built sets for this
because
there'sa scene when they're doing the depo thing
and they're like runningin and out of the rocks.

(01:35:04):
Even though it's a very nondescript set,you can tell it's all set right.
Like the stairs
and like the rock wall is real whenthey're moving the cameras in the room.
That was rock wall.So they did build some sets for these.
Even the the jungle scenes felt likesome of those were real, like built.
But to me, this moviestill feels very much like Quantum Me.
This is my quantum mania for decentor because at the end

(01:35:25):
they none of it really mattered.
You had a big you knowthe villains are kind of similar right
they were overpowered villainswho died at the end
because they were trying to get revengerather than anything else.
So and a lot of a lot of the stuffwas underwater, like the floating here.
CGI didn't really work for me.
So if I was compare this movie, you think it's Ant-Man?
Quantumania But for DC this year, like the actors are great.

(01:35:46):
There are some good spots, but boy, is itjust a letdown at the end of the day.
So yeah, super, super hard to recommend, right?
I mean.
You're watching I'm watching IMAXin a couple of months,
but don't get to see this.
Yeah, might be a good airplane movie, you know, just trying to kill the time.
Yeah, maybe a boat, maybe on a boat cruise.
Maybe watch on a cruise boat movie.
Yeah, that that nine month cruise.

(01:36:07):
I'm sure it'll be streamingby the time that thing's still going.
That's right. So you can check that out.
All right. So we're going to shift gears.
Our last bit of news here, Mike,as we watch Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon.
Different times.
We were I was very late to thiswith with the holidays,
but we will be able to watch it.
So we're going to talk a reviewin our discussion

(01:36:27):
about Rebel Moon, a Child of Fire Partone full spoilers ahead.
So if you've not seen it,don't don't do it.
Go watch on Netflix. It's on Netflix.
So you didn't have to go to the theatersto watch it.
You can just, you know, subscribe toNetflix or can't really borrow it anymore.
They got that marked down.
But Chris Chris I would to knowyour thoughts on this movie
based on your sandwich analogy.

(01:36:48):
What is the sandwich look like?
Pretty much
like like like Aquaman, The Last Kingdom.
I've got some good notesand I've got some bad notes. Mike
The good notes is I will say
first and foremost about this movie, every actor is truly believes in.
What they're doing was Zack Snyder
and no actor is out of placeor does a bad job in this film.

(01:37:11):
Mike and I got to give them creditbecause literally, if you just
didn't have your heart into it or didn'tbelieve it, you could do a pretty bad job.
But every actor sells a role and doesa really, really good job in this movie.
So I give them veryI give them very much credit for
for sticking to their tropesof their characters that they had to play
in this movie, despitehow little screen time most of them get.

(01:37:33):
At the end of the day.
Does that make sense?Do you agree with that?
Like the actors or. Yes.
I agree.
I agree.
And I think in that same sentimentwe were talking off, Mike, just before
we started recording that,I watched this movie a couple days
after it was released.
So it's been a bit since I've seen itand now trying to reflect back on it
and think about it.

(01:37:53):
I'm just like,What happened in this movie?
I feel like I can remember
three scenes that pretty much sum upeverything that happened in the film.
Like you could do a cut down of this
and you just digest it very easilyin like a 12 minute YouTube video.
Well,I've considered doing is putting this.
I said, we're off
the bread, we're into the meat of thiscompliment sandwich is that

(01:38:14):
if I just sped up the slow down
sections in this, it would probably belike an hour long movie, right?
Like, my God.
The whole the the
the slowdowns goso slow that they go slow.
Even inside, there's nested slow motionwhere they're doing that.
The Harry Potter buck taming section andthe guy's floating in the air in slo mo.

(01:38:36):
It's ramp down the slow mo. Right.
And then right as he passes overthe sun, Snyder is like,
no more and slows it down even more.
And then they rampit back up to slow motion.
And then regular motion was like, my God,he cannot be helped.
Yeah, this movie suffersfrom a lot of the standard.
Zack Snyder
Now they're at Trump sort of at this pointjust his flared his flares, right?

(01:39:00):
Like you can tell you're
watching the Zack Snyder movieby some of these things when they're over.
Nothing he's nothing if not consistent.
Everything about this film is bleeding.
Zack Snyderfrom the screenplay to the screen to the.
Just.
Just everything feels SnyderSo if you don't like him,

(01:39:21):
like I already do,there is no hope for me.
And I tried to watch this without knowing.
And, you know, that seems fine.
But I will say I have one big questionfor this whole entire movie.
We have one big shipkilling planet in space.
They go to this planet, they stop at the smallest
fucking farm on this planetand ask for green.

(01:39:43):
When later in the movie they goto even bigger cities on the planet.
Like, why would they shop at the shiny, this tiny little town of like what?
Like what?
15 people live there?
Like, why is that?
The town they stop at on this planet
where there's more citiesthat are bigger around?
I can't,
I can't pinpoint why that why that theyyou see them in the sky in the end

(01:40:05):
they just go down to this one
little bitty town that I wouldn'teven see from space if I was looking.
Like, Yeah, it's it's one of those thingswhere like the inciting
incident of your movie just seemsto be coincidence in a way, right?
Like, you know what you're describing, Chris, as
if they just happened to go to eithera different village or a different planet.
Like I guess

(01:40:25):
the story never would have unfolded, which I guess if you think about it, like,
that's kind of fun and magical, but that think about it even more.
That's how it gets even worse. That's how Star Wars happened, right?
The droids happened to land on the planetwhere Luke already lived.
But, you know, but like, you know,he didn't
land exactly on Luke's ship.
They got picked up by the jar,was who they transported them over there.

(01:40:48):
But you could almost theoretically imaginethe droids do
end up finding Ben Kenobi, which is who they're originally there for.
They could have found them another way.
Maybe it wasn't Luke. Right.
And then Ben Kenobi, maybe have unfoldeda different adventure, right?
Maybe he could have found somebody else.I don't know. Right, Right.
But this is a very specific incidenton a very small thing.

(01:41:09):
And you are bringing up a great pointhere, though, Chris, about
Star Wars, where this sentiment was shared
a lot in the reviews, the early critical reviews of the movie.
We talked about
like a couple of weeks ago on the podcastbefore you even saw this movie
where people are sayingevery part of this movie you've seen done
better in so many other films that it justand then it brought me back to

(01:41:35):
I don't know
exactly where it was,but it was an interview with Nolan
when he was working on Tenet, because Tenet is very heavily
influenced by his lovefor W7 seven and spy movies.
But when Tenet R when Nolan goesmake these movies, he intentionally
avoids, you know, Double-O seven and theseJames Bond movies all together, right?

(01:41:56):
Because you don't want to beaccidentally influenced or do something.
You know, you want to be unique and creative.
You just want theyou just want the vibes, you know, and the
nostalgia of those movies to affect youwhen you're making your film.
SNYDER It feels like he didthe exact opposite, where he just did
a marathon of all of his favorite movies, and the second he was done watching them,
he whipped out his legalpad, just started writing down ideas

(01:42:18):
like it feels like straight up lifts, not like inspiration.
So I evenI took notes saying this in Aquaman.
I told Make this one.
I have the notes of the characters, even told you every character is
briefly in this movieexcept for the main girl, I guess.
Well, I forgot her name.
The scar. Gives scarring.
Yeah, she's got like two different namesin the movie.

(01:42:40):
That's what it. Is. Yeah.
And that's like her, her hidden name.
So first and foremost,we're in a Viking village.
Kind of like it'skind of a Viking village.
And yeah, we've got Viking Corey Stoll as,like,
the leader of this little green villageand like, okay, that's fine.
And then next thing you know, you'rein your Star Wars Western cantina with.
Charlie Hunnam Right.
Who's playing, you know,

(01:43:01):
obviously someone you can't trustbecause he just wants money.
Then we talk about the Harry Potter
hypocrite dude who looks like a very, very dark Matthew McConaughey.
Like he's got the same bone structureand everything in his face.
Then we get a light saber, lady, some ladywho's very she doesn't want to fight.
She to talk it out, but she has lightsabers, so she will kill you.
And also the spider lady was gentlemen own

(01:43:23):
a Zack Snyder regular, if you will.
then we get the gladiator movie
with the general from Gladiatorwho doesn't even do any gladiator stuff.
They just sober them up,
pour water on them, and then they move on to the next planet.
Like he didn't even do anything.
Yeah, he's supposed to be like, what?
This, like, masterful, like, tacticianthat's supposed to bring in some strategy.

(01:43:43):
He's about.
Yes, he turned he had his armyturn on the king at one point or whatever.
So they were like,
we need him because he can convincepeople like he can lead them.
Then there were two twinsthat kind of show up on like this very,
very bad looking, you know,Blade Runner playing it a little bit.
So one of those was Ray Fisher.

(01:44:03):
And I didn't know this until he died10 minutes later in the movie
because, boy, he's not in there at all.
And then again at the end of the moviethere with Matrix, right?
Whenever what's his name, Edscreens, character dies, quote
unquote dies is plugged into the matrixwhere his conscience talks to
a dude and then he comes back to life.
So, boy, did they just borrowfrom every genre all at once.

(01:44:26):
Like, I really hate how little timethe characters had to breathe in this.
They were like that. He was like,I want to stop somewhere first.
And then I go, okay,So they pick up a dude.
I got more places we can stop.
So it's like literally like a,
I don't know, a montage of picking uppeople that we don't care about, Right?
Yeah, I'm I'm trying to remember exactly
kind of what it's called in screenwriting, but you want

(01:44:47):
your main character to be proactiveand not reactive.
And Cora is being extremely reactivein this movie.
If she didn't find Charlie Hunnamin that bar,
like nothing would have happenedin this movie, right?
She just goes from place to place to placeand people just fall in line
and she attempts to convince them

(01:45:09):
and then they just go with it, right?
I saw a lot of people making means of justlike, Hey, do you want to join my army?
She's like, no, not really.
Are you sure? It's like, Yeah, let's do it.
And it's so it's like that doesn'tfeel earned in any way.
weirdly enough,it feels like if for some reason, like,
Zack Snyder could just, like, pull it together and maybe even hire

(01:45:31):
a different writer for part two, which I know it's already done,
it's already set in stone. That's not going to happen, right?
But if that could have happen, there could be a theoretical chance
that this movie
narratively could be saved in part two, because this is an incomplete movie.
Right?
This is people complained earlierthis year that maybe Spider-verse two
wasn't quite a complete film, but,Gwen Stacy very much had a full arc.

(01:45:56):
It's not Miles MoralesSpider-Man, it's Spider-Man.
The movie,which Gwen was a Spider-Man, right?
So, absolutely. Yeah. And Bucky.
You can't draw any of those parallelswith a rebel.
There's no, like you could say, maybe that
our main character finally has,
I don't know, the gumption to stick aroundand save her plan.

(01:46:18):
I don't even really know.But she thinks she's.
She thinks it's done.
She thinks she's killed himand it's done like that.
And then the ending is that he's dead.
And then, you know, like her adoptedfather is the person behind all this,
as you find out, you know, like, yeah.
I mean, this is I likewhere you're talk about doing I like Dune.
Part one's a good movie.
Doesn't end on a good note, ends ona cliffhanger or like an incomplete note.

(01:46:39):
But it actually you know, I feel part two.
It's going to be great.
Like Wright is one big story.
This feels like a, you know, hey,
I went
to my toy boxand got a bunch of these toys real fast.
Let's get ready for part two.
But the thing is, we have the trailerfor part two, and it doesn't feel
anything like a good sequel to this.

(01:47:00):
Like, it's like, hey, it'swe're training these people to shoot guns
and that guy you thought was dead,he's not dead anymore.
So yeah, and I mean, it seems like part
two is really, really going to lean into like,
the trope Seven Samurai, which has been used everywhere, right?
I mean, not only has therebeen like modern movies, just remakes
of Seven Samurai, but like, there are so many TV shows,

(01:47:23):
any sort of action adventure TV show thathas spanned more than a couple seasons
has done some sort of like kind of likeSeven Samurai equivalent of like
we're a small band of, you know, scrappy
people trying to save a villagewho were going to set up booby traps.
We're going to like,I can there's like I think Avatar,
The Last Airbender has like an episodewhere they do something like this, like

(01:47:43):
everyone has done this before.
And Snyder's like, galaxy brain idea, let's just do it in my part
two of my movie.
And you can even see that in the trailer.
You see them like training the townspeopleyou know they're going to.
I don't I don't know how you defendagainst a gigantic spaceship.
So I guess I'm kind of curious, like how just like a cannon coming through
and exploding the entire villagedoesn't just end the fight, you know?

(01:48:07):
But there are going to be some sort
of, like, stupid hackeror something that hacks into the spaceship
through some sort of, like, satellite turns down.
Even it did cannons. Itdidn't even show the spaceship.
It just shows a bunch of shipslanding at the town.
And like this,I don't know what's happening
and I don't I don't care enoughabout all of these characters.
Also, when she, like, goes all, you know, like John

(01:48:31):
Wick on the dudes in thein that like barn and kills them.
All right how are how how are people
not alerted like how is the mothershipnot alerted that like,
everyone's dead, nobody's checked in
in like the last day, Likewe should probably see what's going on.
Like, it seems like the villageshould have been turned

(01:48:52):
into glass by cannonswhile they were gone on their adventure.
Well, it could have been.I don't know. I don't.
I don't know if rumor of the shipstayed there.
Right. They said they'll be back this month.
But I mean, it's a ship there's a spacevagina that it flies through.
It can get or it can get back.
Why there?
There's no communication for nine monthsbecause they didn't have anything
long range on. I forgive that part.

(01:49:14):
I mean, it didn't cross my was therebut I figured that part easier.
The Anthony Hopkins robotthat's in the trailer
quite a bithis in this not hardly any at all.
No it was disappointingbut I hear he's he's more in
the R-rated cut which is comingthat might just give us that.
Also like thethe the robot thing is the most
the most Zack Snyder thingI could think of, of just like I'm going

(01:49:37):
to give humanity to thisrobot and people are going to love it,
but then does not do any of the workto ingratiate us with the robot, right?
Like the robotjust shows up for one scene.
He gets bullied. Too.
He kills, he kills the main guy.
Ah, the mean the last dude. But.
But he only gets bullied in one scene, right?
So like, so now all of a suddenthe it's a ghost in the shell situation

(01:50:01):
where the robot has sentience
and it has feelingsand it's going to do the right thing.
Now it's like you can't just
show me one scene and all of a suddenI'm going to believe this A.I.
has gone good.
Well,this isn't like a C-3PO, R2-D2 situation.
The robot has a good what they have.
What he set up was a situationwhere you're leading to believe
that this girlis the daughter of the king,

(01:50:22):
even though she's you find out latershe's not.
Then you think they say thisrobot only takes orders from the Imperial
like the king, right?
So it won't do anything, you know,
It won't kill any man at all and protectthe person that will shoot that person
you think is protecting the king'sdaughter like the missing king's daughter.
But it's not.
You know, she was the guardianof the King's daughter.
So where is the king's daughter in this?

(01:50:44):
Like what happened?
Who cares?
I care because that's the only personwho can do anything about this.
The only person can come in
and bring an army of these robotsis the king's daughter, Carrie.
All was in his fucking JimCarrey, Dumb and Dumber haircut.
In the beginning, this movie took meright out of my he looked better later.
The beard and stuff.
But like, yeah, this king fellthe skin and fell.

(01:51:04):
He was assassin.
What is this partthat they're telling us about?
Show us what it is like.
That's the important part, right
The child of firewe know about rather than.
That later on.
And it's and it's pretty obviousthat the king they showed like
the king's daughter like bringing like aI think a bird back to life or something.
So so you already knowthey're going to do a grogu thing

(01:51:25):
where one of our you know, one of our heroes is on death's door.
It's It's the main girl,you know, it's the.
Man heals them. Yeah.
And then like the the wholethe love relationship between that
that farmer that was in controlof, like, the inventory of the crops.
All of a sudden, at the end of the movie,he's in love with the main character,
and it's just like this is an entirelyone sided relationship. The

(01:51:49):
Korra has not
really she's been pretty drivento do one specific thing
and we just have this dudelike Simpson in the background.
Yeah, yeah.
That's how the movie started.
Mike He was Simpson in the background.
She was working in the fields, rememberright there.
He's like, I want to come check on it.
Now, if you were concerned about this,do not worry, because Jackson
had said the already cutwould be more bizarre and a lot of sex.

(01:52:10):
I suppose we could.
Surprisingly, out of the two moviesthat we just talked about here,
I wasn't expecting Rebel Moon to bethe one that had the tentacle sex in it.
Yeah, I figured that would be an Aquamanand not Rebel Moon, which was surprising.
Who who played Ajax in Deadpoolone just plays a Nazi.
So well, like,he just like it's his bone structure.

(01:52:32):
Is it like his his personality?
He plays a bad guy with such great.
Yeah. Greatness.I can't. Can't fault him for that. It's.
It's the anglesthat he's got so many angles on his face.
He's also totally Zack Snyder of loves
to lay it on as thickand as obvious as possible.
He's like what shouldthe bad guys look like in this movie?
Make them look like Nazis.

(01:52:52):
Don't think about it too much.
Give them like the the the dusting, the coat dusters or the whatever you call.
Hats and long coats. You know?
Yeah.
Make up some sort of like symbolon their coat that like,
is not a swastika, but like, maybe it kindof could be a space swastika.
I really want people to hate these peopleinnately without us telling them
why they hate them.
Yeah, the the best part about thismovie, though, for me,

(01:53:15):
Chris, was luckily, you it after me.
So you kind of got to, like, livetweet me directly as you're watching it,
which was the the best, most funI had with this movie.
And I tell you, we were kind oftalking about like, this weird,
like little Viking farm town or whatever.
And I was like, there'sthis bizarre exterior shot of the town

(01:53:37):
where you see thisgigantic mountain in the background
and there's like a huge waterfallcoming out of it.
It feels very odd.
It doesn't feel like itkind of fits the esthetic
of this kind of desolatemoon a little bit in a way.
and it just feels like
Zack Snyder went into oneart meeting at the beginning

(01:53:59):
and just liked everythingand just said, Yeah, let's do it, because
I can't give it the same complimentthat we gave
Aquaman Last Kingdom, where the set design makes a lot of sense.
Everything feels cohesive.
That's felt like the volumethrough and everything was,
yeah yeah, the alien designs were awful.
The bounty hunterslook like orcs from Lord of the Rings.

(01:54:20):
I hate to use Lord of the Rings twice, but they are.
They look rings.
Identical like he just said.
Just give me an org like I thinkI got a leftover like silicone mask
that I bought at an auction.Let's just use it or something.
The the onethe king guy on the, on the Neon Planet
look the coolest of all the alien designshe was.
Yeah, he looked, yeah,he kind of like that squid guy.

(01:54:42):
He looked pretty cool. I do think.
That was something
that whoever designed that was the bestone on the on the whole thing.
Because everybody else, everything else was on
the ships were uninspiredlike they looked.
So if you go watch Battlestar Galacticafrom 2003, it was ships
look better than the ship scanners.
Which is weirdbecause I'm not necessarily expecting
these like big like military vesselslook unique in a way.

(01:55:05):
I understand they're utilitarian, but they introduce the movie.
The very first shot iswe get to see this big ship
and how special and unique it is.
They say this is like the planetkilling ship or whatever.
This has been roaming through the galaxylike causing destruction, countless toll.
And it's just like,it just looks like this very nondescript.

(01:55:25):
It's in a good spaceship. There's nothing special person ship.
I couldn't Yeah, I couldn't tell you.
Like it looks like they're massmanufacturing me I wouldn't be
if there was like fiveor six of them out there roaming around.
But this one is supposed to be specialin some way.
Yeah, there's no there's.
I don't like this movie.
I don't like Zack Snyder.
He has had nothing but chancesto prove himself to me.

(01:55:48):
He's been giving moreand more opportunities, more
and more power to wherenow he's just his own scripts.
Everything he's done recently is bad.
I think 300,frankly, is probably just a fluke.
Was it the what's his first zombie movie.
Called Dawn of the Dead, which was written by James Gunn?
Yeah.
And that that is just purelike not beginner's luck necessary.

(01:56:10):
It's also like you you.
Yeah, you put in more effort when you'retrying to prove yourself to Hollywood.
I want to meet the executive
that has fallen in love with Zack Snyderso much there.
Is somebody at that studio giving himchance after chance after chance?
I can't imagine.
Well, that this does not kill his contractat Well, yes.

(01:56:34):
There is no like he'sonly had one chance at Netflix.
Right.
So I wouldn't say that there'ssomeone who's fallen in love with him.
Well, he had army of the deadand then he had all the books,
I suppose, like sequels and spin.
Off. Comic book.
Unless it had. All of that stuff.Yeah, unless it happens.
I'm not. I'm not Countin. Say it. Army of the Dead.
And then he had this

(01:56:54):
and then he was at Warner Brothersand they tried to kick him out.
So I assume after this third one,the problem
is he probably gets the fucking watcheslike people watching this because
it's new content right nowon Free on Netflix.
Like, my, my, my assumption is, again,
you don't make money on the streamingservice.
Netflix is probably I don't know how muchthe movie costs but after two of them,

(01:57:14):
they're probably goingto have to figure out a way
to make money off of itand we're not going to see it.
Chris, you sent me.
You were at like a Walmart.
You took a picture.
my fucking God, yes.
The Walmart of of Rebel Moon merchandise.
And I just I laughed because I was like, who is buying this?
This movie, This franchise hasn'teven been established yet.
It's like and Netflix is very, very picky about merchandizing.

(01:57:38):
Like it's basically only stranger thingsand you really have to elevate
to get Netflix to make you a T-shirtor like a Funko Pop or something.
And Rebel Moon has like collectiblelike cups or something.
I there's, there's, there's chipsyou can buy.
Yeah.
Okay, Here I found up so they have yetto pack of collectible stains.

(01:58:00):
Govee has brandedthese Netflix Rebel moon lights
but there's just lightsand a different box G fuel energy drinks
there's a collectiblethe robot it says, looks like a speaker.
The robot has a speaker.
You can get the dropship toyand you can get cheddar cheese puffs.
And I'm like this I've seen this nowon some other things, too,

(01:58:21):
where they bundle some of these together.
But I'm like, well, rebel movement, this got the branding here.
We'll see how much
how long do you think until these go onclearance, Mike, is what I'm going to.
my God.
So before Valentine's Day? Yeah.
So on clearance,I almost thought about buying the vault,
cheddar cheese thingsjust to try them. But.
But obviously I did.
But I will say,I don't hate this movie because it's bad.

(01:58:44):
I hate this movie because it's genericand there's nothing there to remind me.
There's like
maybe three, like yousaid, three good ideas in this movie.
The rest of it not worth my time.
And I feel the extended edition, the director's cut,
which is just going to be more bizarre
and a lot of sexisn't really going to sell me.
I'm wanting to watch this movie anymore
because, like, that's not was I'm not missing bizarre.

(01:59:06):
I'm not missing sex.
I'm missing
unique some plot and and thingsthat we care about at the end of the day.
At least like if they if they kind of
put like a like the boys filter over it.
Right.
Like give me, like exploding juicy bodiesgive me like, weird alien sex.
At least there's something in my carnal, primal caveman
brain that will attach myselfto the screen that I'm watching.

(01:59:29):
So I think that possibly could helpon that primal level.
Yeah, but I think the thing that annoys methe most about this movie and this
this is like kind of talkinghardly ever pops up in my head
when we're talking about movies.
But if you're looking at individualstudios or Hollywood as a whole,
there is a finite amount of moneyevery year for movies, right?
All of these studios set budgetsand they plan their slates and everything.

(01:59:53):
Hardly anything that ever gets madeanymore is original, right?
It's all based on IP, it's franchise,it's based on a toy
or an old comic book or something. Right.
So it's so frustrating that Netflixkind of like said,
we have this slot for two big budgetstreaming movies, right?
And they can be original.

(02:00:14):
They don't have to be based on IP.We just want something.
Who should we give this opportunity to?
And it goes to Zack Snyderand he doesn't even have the
the grace to even find somebody elseto write it for him.
Like, I feel like at leastthat could have saved him
if he was just like, I have this amazing.
Interest on this movie, just so you know.
But you but like, he his he's his story.

(02:00:36):
I know. I'm just telling youthere are three I'm not giving him, right.
I'm not giving.
There are three peoplewho are assaulting us on this movie, Mike.
It's not just.
It's just like.
Like, I'm sure like he's he's a successmovie director.
I'm sure he has his own production studio.
I don't remember what it's called
that has stacks and stacks of scriptsthat get submitted,
like there's not no one can convince methat the that the movie he made

(02:01:00):
is better than just any random script thatyou could have pulled off of his desk.
So what I'm trying to sayis I'm more upset of the opportunity
that was missed with these two dumb moviesthat we're we haven't even finished yet.
So that's what makes me the most upset.
But like, I guess, you know, I don't know.
I guess that the this is thethis is the Internet's fault.

(02:01:23):
It's the Snyder call that got this movie,
made some Netflix saw that there's enough
social push and energy out therethat we can get these made.
And I'm glad it's biting him in the ass.
Nobody likes this There's.
There will be there will bea, I guess, a comeuppance eventually.
Right.
You can't continually bounce around, you know, in theaters and you know

(02:01:43):
not sayingthat was in to get remember like
I don't have the stats to look at thiswe Netflix has to give out numbers now.
Right.
Isn't that part of the writing thing? Yes.
But they won't be public.
They know they. Have to they will be justthey will be the Writers Guild specific.
But I think they can makethey made those public for December so.
Or for November. Right.
So we will possibly seethe actual numbers on this come January.

(02:02:05):
I would like to I want the hackersget in to Netflix and show me that PDF.
That's not for public scene.
I want to see that slide from the keynotethat shows me how well these are doing.
Yeah.
So in the middle of December, they they give audience consumption
numbers for nearly every TV show moviein this library every month.
Now according according to to Netflix.

(02:02:27):
So in January, I guess mid-January,we'll be able to take a look at this
and see if that's what it isand what those numbers are, because it can
we don't again, it can be thisyou know, people may enjoy this.
People may not know any better.
Maybe there is a Netflix on Netflix.
You sit down and watch things on Netflix
or do you put it on in the backgroundwhere you're on your phone half the time?

(02:02:48):
Because this is a movie.
I would easily get on my phone and not payattention to what's in the background.
And if that's the case, that doesn't offend me.
It's just content, not in the background, but at the same time
we have to sit here and talk about thisbecause Zack Snyder
directed several DC moviesand did all this other stuff.
I think, you know, you could do better.
And I just wish we had the statsto figure out why he keeps getting these.

(02:03:10):
Like, why? Why does he?
Who is it actually joining viewers?
Is it giving subscriptions for Netflix?I don't know.
But I will tell you, I'mnot going to watch the extended edition.
But in about four months,we get watch part two,
the Sky Giver, and hopefully we can eithersee he pulls something out of his hat
or most likely it falls flatlike everything else we've got to do.

(02:03:33):
We have linked the end credits.
Scene of partone is the trailer for part two.
And for anyone who doesn't know, there'sno post-credits scene.
It's just a trailer.So it's in the show notes.
If you won't watch,I watch it stuck and get a lot out of it.
So I just think it's funny.
Ray Fisher died like literally 10 minutesafter they introduced him in the movie.
I'm like, I'm like.
Like they have the technology, apparently, and maybe they'll bring him back

(02:03:57):
to life in that. Good I things. I think.
I think I think he died Died.
I think the other one.
Yeah well, he should have died.
But anyway, how do I have to weighin the sandwich here.
How do I in this sandwich.
Say nowsay something good about your partner.
Yeah. So at the end.
At the end of Rebel,I will say, you know, the.
I have one. If you have one,I have one as well. Go ahead.

(02:04:18):
You start readers.
I I for the most
I liked the the the handcuff robot things
that like pop out of the briefcaseand the like.
Those visually look cool.
You know, it reminded me
a lot of the destroyer droidsjust kind of based on their general shape.
But I do also think it was equally stupid

(02:04:39):
that the key that turns it on and offis, is also the same thing that kills you.
So I thought that was really weird.
Yeah.
Yeah, that was that's kind ofand that's kind of interesting.
I do.
So. Okay,I'll give you I'll give you two things.
Here are two thingsI enjoy about this at the end of the day.
One, you mentioned earlier that there isa son who can just turn off the things.
Really, there's no tech in this.
They actually rely very

(02:04:59):
little on technology in this universeother than the ship flying.
And I appreciate that. Right.
Like, there's no one hacking.
There's no one like taking overpainting little like beacons.
Like it's very much just like,
yeah, we're we're doing businessthe old fashioned way.
So I do enjoy that.
We don't have to worryabout the technology of this world.
Like, it's just here it is,and here's how it works kind of deal.
The other thing is

(02:05:20):
and is also a flaw as well as acompliment, is that it's competent film.
Despite all of the sucking this out.
It is it actually is a competent film.
It is filmed and it was done, so.
okay.
I see. Yeah, they finished it.That's your. Compliment.
They think they filmed it.It looked like a movie.
If I accidentally walked in someone'swatching, it's like,

(02:05:41):
yeah, the Russian movie.
I could tell actually, you know whatit was if I told you the sound.
It was a sound designwe didn't talk about.
There you go. We had. That.We said Heavy rain.
That's Zack Snyder.
And he said, What did you think about
when we were like, Well,we really like the sound.
Yeah, the sound. The sound was great.
You nailed it.
And I listened to.It sounded like a movie.
I listen to it, my atmos speakers, and it did fill like a lot of the like,

(02:06:02):
you know, around and ups and downs.
Like the gaps were there.
So, like, I can really tell againat the end, whenever they blow up
the ships at the end, whateverthe big battle is on that gangway, the,
the cloud city gangway which is cloud citywhere you get betrayed at.
Well of course it is. That's how
Empire Strikes Back happen.
But like that, those explosionsreally came from all around.

(02:06:24):
And I thought that was a really good, good effect overall.
So, yeah, well.
I guess I guess, you know, stay tuned.
Stay subscribed until into next year.
We'll be talking about part two in April.
I'm sure we'll be talking about Avatar,The Last Airbender in February.
Something's something'scoming out in January, I think.

(02:06:47):
I don't know if it's necessarilya superhero thing, but I swear
there's something larger budget scalethat's happening in January.
I don't know what it is, but.
Craven's was in Januaryand then it was moved.
Madame Web, I think until still February.
So boy,do we have a really mixed year coming.
Yeah.

(02:07:07):
And then March's do and so yeah we've got,we've got a pretty well for sure so.
Yeah I mean Chris
I know we've been going pretty hardat this episode end of the year wrap
we had to catch up just in generalsince we were out next week.
One last thing real quick.
Do you have do you have any predictionsabout literally anything that you want to
you want to lobby out there in the worldjust in case?

(02:07:28):
If you're right, you can brag about itthat you have it
recorded down for the Internet.Man, I wish.
I wish you'd just give me a siteto think of for next week
rather than on the spot here, because I don't off the top of my head.
No, we'll do it.
We can do that next week.
I think that'd be a fun way to start theyear predictions of where things will go.
Yeah.So we'll end here with our predictions.
If anyone else is listening this farand has any predictions in them
over to us,we want to hear your predictions as well

(02:07:50):
and we can give you credit.
But yeah, I think I think we have tothink about for next week because I feel
there's going to be a shake up somewhere,but I don't know what that's where
that is.
Something's going to happensometime, somewhere with somebody.
Well, I think I thinkit's going to be a bigger a bigger twist.
And in a weird way,I just don't know what it is yet.

(02:08:12):
I've got I've got to put my put
my fingerprint to the wind and figure outwhich way the wind's blowing for that.
All right. So, yeah, tune in next week, folks. That's right.

It can just be something else.
Why is it wheat is it?
And or we had the same problem.
