Intro

Maggie Cure Founder of Counting lives: back to the basics, before she became a mom, she taught second grade. It never once crossed her mind to homeschool her own kids one day. When her oldest was a year away from entering kindergarten, she figured she’d have nothing to lose by giving it a trial year. She went into it focused on the curriculum, schedule, and academics and came out of it being blown away by every non-academic grace that filled their lives because of it. She realized it has very little to do with schooling, but all about doing life with them.

Counting lives is a place for parents to find solidarity, connection with others raising kids who are in the world but not of the world. It is a reminder to each other to notice beauty in the mundane moments of motherhood, to lay down worry and take up surrender, to celebrate who your kids are-not just what they do, and to never underestimate the greatness of work you are doing within the walls of your own home as you raise little souls.

Top three takeaways

  1. Homeschool can be intimidating and lonely when you first look into it. Getting a chance to see other moms doing it can give others encouragement and confidence.
  2. Homeschooling allows parent to customize education
  3. Regardless of qualifications, every parent is equipped to be the BEST primary teacher for their kids, because they know them and love them better than anyone else can
