In part two of a special two-part series, Susan continues her conversation with Professor John Lande about RPS Coach, his groundbreaking AI tool designed to elevate mediation practice through better preparation, deeper reflection, and more conscious system design. This time, Susan and John explore how RPS Coach can be used before, during, and after mediation, not just as a tool for practitioners, but as a conversation partner. They also talk candidly about how AI can unlock creativity, serve as a second brain, and offer guided coaching that encourages intentional practice. If you missed part one of the conversation, be sure to check that episode here.

John's work is a reminder that true success comes not just from mastering techniques, but from understanding the systems we work within and constantly improving them.

Here’s what else you’ll hear in this episode:

  • Using AI to debrief, reflect, and grow your skills with guided checklists and coaching prompts
  • The importance of using the right AI tool for the right job—think toolbox, not one-size-fits-all
  • Real-time mediation support and how RPS Coach fills the gap when your support group isn’t available

More About This Week's Special Guest, John Lande:  John Lande is the Isidor Loeb Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri School of Law and a nationally recognized leader in dispute resolution. A mediator since 1982, he holds a J.D. from Hastings and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His groundbreaking work has shaped how practitioners, courts, and educators approach negotiation, mediation, and dispute system design.

John is the recipient of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution’s Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work, the Mangano Dispute Resolution Advancement Award, and multiple writing honors from CPR, AFCC, and others. His scholarship on early dispute resolution, collaborative law, and legal practice innovation has influenced a generation of professionals.

He has taught widely on negotiation, lawyering practice, and dispute system design, and is a Fellow of Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers. He also serves on the editorial board of the Indisputably blog.
