6.2 Source Code (2011) "Jakes on a Train"

This week we are babbling about Source Code (2011).

Source Code stars everyone's favourite time travelling, bunny loving, sour-faced grumplord, Donnie Darko himself and was directed by the son of Davey Jones, from the imaginary pop group the Monkees.

Imagine waking up on a train on your daily commute surrounded by strangers, only to discover two things in rapid succession: You’re not actually you. This train is about to explode!

Congratulations! You get to relive the world’s worst Groundhog Day, again and again and again.

Source Code is what happens when the universe says, “Hey, what if we turned public transport into an escape room?” and then refuses to let you leave until you solve the puzzle, save Chicago, and stop yelling “WHAT IS HAPPENING” every eight minutes.

It’s a sci‑fi thriller where the hero keeps dying, rebooting and trying to flirt with a woman who has no idea that he’s technically a limbless time‑looping military science project trapped in a box. 

It’s actually impressive that he manages anything besides panicking and looking for the nearest emergency exit. By the end, you, like Donnie, will be asking the big questions, like:

• Is this time travel? (erm…)
• Why does everybody on the train look and act like they have a bomb up their jumper?
• Where did I leave my Dunkin’ Donuts?

Buckle up buddy, the train’s leaving the station, again and again and again. Toot toot!
