your gadgets. Heard worldwide on theiHeartRadio Act. Now your high tech Texan.
Michael Garfield. The last time wespoke, I was a beer eight
(00:47):
thousands miles away from my home baseof Houston. Guess where I am.
Well, I am back in thehome base of Houston. Eight thousand,
got a lot of United Travel points. I'll tell you that, people,
and we are back. Happy earlyAugust. It's actually great to see the
headline that July was the hottest monthever recorded in Earth's history. It's just
(01:11):
it's a great time to live,is isn't it? Listen? I do
thank everybody for continuing to listen twentytwo plus years here on kPr see Radio
nine fifty A. M Michael Garfield, of course is the name. It's
called the high Tech Text and Show. Last week it was the High Tech
Korean show because I was in Soul, Korea. Man, I was sifting
through your remail from last week. It's very nice. It's you know,
(01:34):
it's it's it's nice to be wanted, it's nice to be loved. I'm
getting for clemmed about all the playby playoff. Not only talking about the
newest gear that Samsung release, whichis one of the reasons that I went
over there to the worldwide press conferencefor the new flip phone, the fold
phone, the watches, the tablets, which I am going to cover in
depth now that I've had them inmy hands for at least a week,
(01:57):
but also I did talk about raveland and I really do like traveling,
and it's one of the things thatI do on my show. Yes it's
called the High Tech Texts and Show. You think I always talk about technology,
then you don't listen to the showthat often because I talk about a
lot more. I do talk aboutcars and trucks and the things I get
to test drive, and the placesI get to eat and the things I
(02:17):
get to drink, and the verylucky to be able to go to so
many places locally but also around theworld, and to be able to go
to Asia for the very first timein my life. It was cool.
The you know, it's sight seeing, a little vaca, little business getting
done. And now we're back andnow I'm I'm homebound. So unless anybody
(02:38):
invites me somewhere else, or ifI get on another whim to go somewhere
because I got I got me alot of Southwest Airlines points. Don't have
a companion on my companion pass though, so I'm taking applications for that,
and I got some good United miles. But we are going to talk about
a number of different things. We'regonna give some things away. This is
what we do in radio. Learnthis a long time ago and keep it
(03:00):
fun. Tell people where to shop, give them good ideas, and give
stuff away. We've got gift cardshere to Johnny Tamali's Tex Mex restaurant just
opened in Missouri City. Oh thatwas good stuff. And also Benny Hanna,
Benny Hannah comes through. When's thelast time you've been to a Benny
Hanna. Benny Hanna not from Korea, Benny Hanna actually based in Miami,
(03:23):
Florida. Benny Hanna. The nicefolks over there, they have graciously giving
me a stack of gift cards.Gift cards, So do I throw out
the show, I will let youknow when to call. And if you
do not want to listen to theentire show, come on people, So
suck it up, man, it'sjust two hours. Just listen to me
on iHeartRadio, your app, butalso on your smart devices too throughout your
(03:46):
home. All you need to sayis you wake up, word, Google,
Alexa, listen to KPRC radio oniHeart Radio, and then you can
just kind of do your thing aroundthe house and listen to me. And
that's what we got. It isan interactive show. Callum, good to
see it. I did bring afew things for you back from Korea.
I hope you like a little Sakidays. Yes, they had ski over
there. They did seven one three, two one two five nine five.
(04:10):
Oh. When I talk about Idescribed these phones and the tablets and the
watches, it's I want to hearfrom you. Are you ready for a
phone that flips and folds? Maybenot because Apple hasn't released one yet,
but let me help you out whenthey do. Maybe if they do,
but if and when they do,you're gonna freak out. Oh my goodness,
(04:31):
this is the biggest thing in theworld. I've never heard about this.
That's so cool. It's a phonethat folds and it doubles in size.
Shut up. There are many companiesout there who are doing it.
Yes, Samsung's on their fifth versionright now. Motor Rolla does it,
Oppo does it. Google Pixel hasa really nice one too. Just this
is what I'm here for, totell you about things that you want and
(04:53):
maybe that you need to maybe makeyour life better. Also going to talk
about there is a rumor about thenext phone coming out, the iPhone fifteen.
I M that's how we have todo if I if I say the
word iPhone, you have to usethe word rumor because it's all it's all
we get. One of the rumorsactually is pretty neat. It's been a
(05:13):
long time comment and again, ifAndroid phones do it, Apple will catch
up. At some point. Iwill tell you a feature that is rumored
to be on the next iPhone thathas been long been attached to a lot
of other manufacturer phones, including Samsungand many others. I'll give you an
update on x x marks, thespot x marks where Twitter used to be.
(05:34):
I don't know if you're using xor you're using threads. But social
media is still in a crazy time. And I'll let you know what I
have been driving been haven't updated youin the past two or three vehicles because
I do test drive from vehicles, not from dealerships. I deal directly with
the manufacturers. I do not getpaid really anything I talk about. I
(05:54):
mean, you'll know if if Iendorse a few things like I'm gonna talk
about US coins and jewelry, watchesand things. You know, we give
away some stuff from being Benny Hannah, you're Johnny Tamas. Yeah, you
know when I'm kind of working withpartners and sponsors. But when I when
I talk about Samsung, Oh whenI love to have Samsung sponsor this show.
They don't do it yet, butI'll talk about Samsung, I'll talk
(06:15):
about cars. None of this ispaid. These are truly my opinions.
So I'll tell you if it's good, I'll tell you if it's crap,
and I'll give you some other ideasof what to use if I actually don't
like the product. So this isthis is about as as real as it
gets. So that's where we go. Let me let me give you a
two minute synopsis. This is thepost jet Lag Show. Upon my return
(06:35):
from Seoul, told you I hadthe opportunity to play with all of the
new Samsung gadgets, including the SamsungGalaxy Z Flip five. That's the flippable
phone, just like the old phones. We used to add little clamshell phones.
The fold five. This is thethis is the phone that folds left
(06:55):
to right like a book, alittle larger, open it up. It's
got a very large grade to watchus. The Watch six six version of
the Samsung Watch, which is asmart watch Martin. They've had some features,
and also their new tablet, theSam Samsung S nine tablet. Uh
some I'm gonna have some in depthdiscussions and I'm gonna ask you a question,
are you interested or even ready fora flip or foldable phone? I
(07:18):
think if you hold it and ifyou see it, you're gonna you're gonna
you're gonna go wow. If youhaven't seen one, you're gonna go,
hey, this is pretty cool. How do they make glass? It's actually
foldable and you could touch and thisis what the technology. This is the
world that we've been coming, butthis is the the new generation. I
(07:39):
will tell you some you know, some stats over here the Galaxy Z flip
five. It is a little betterviewing experience. It's got the largest cover
screen ever on a Z flip.If you look at it, hold hold
the palm of your hand out rightnow, my listeners, okay, and
chop off your fingers and look atyour palm if you're an adult, pretty
(08:01):
much as I hold my Galaxy zflip five my head, that's the size.
As the phone is folded. Itfits in literally the palm of your
hand. You open it up,you flip it up, and it becomes
roughly six point seven inches diagonally, the size probably of your regular chocolate bar
phone that you have being an iPhone, be a regular Samazon phone, or
(08:24):
anything else. The cover screen muchbigger than the version's past. The screen
takes up almost the entire front ofit. Let you do so many other
things, and that's nice. Itdoes give you a little better experience.
The hardware itself, the external hardwarepretty much roughly the same size of the
flip fold of the fold five andthe flip and the fold. I will
(08:46):
say this, they did perfect thehinge. And if you did have any
of the other versions and you closethe phone, you probably notice a little
tiny gap right where the hinge is, like if you put your eye through
it, you hold it up thesun, you can see you get They
closed that, they perfected the hinge. They made the hinge smaller, and
so it does fold both of thesethings relatively relatively flat. I'm gonna stop
(09:09):
right there. I'm gonna give youtime to digest. I'm gonna go have
you have a little snack, takea break, but don't go anywhere.
I want you to keep it righthere, KPORC nine fifty a m.
Because when we come back, Iwill go in depth more. I'll let
you know some of the highlights andsome of the things that I think they
probably could have improved on these Samsungphones. But again, we're just in
version five. Did you're already onversion why? Twenty three on the S
(09:30):
series. So there's a long longway to go, and there's about an
hour forty five minutes left this show. Michael Garfield is the name. It's
the High Tech Texan Show. Beright back. Start out with a little
trivia for you. Where were youforty two years ago? This week?
(09:54):
Here's a better one? Were youeven born forty two years ago? This
week? It was there's a betterquestion. Let me let me phrase it
this way. What is the oneseminal product or brand launch in your lifetime
that changed everything? Was it acar? Was it a cereal? Was
(10:16):
it a restaurant? Was it asports team? When it launch? What
changed your life? Well, forpeople of my generation, and I'm just
at the very very early edge ofGeneration X, Gen X, it was
forty two years ago this week thatMTV was launched. Video killed the Radio
Star. Obviously the very first videothat was played on MTV, the Buggles,
(10:39):
if you will. Alas, videohas not killed this radio star.
I do up here on video andTV here and there, but suck it
up. I'm two decades plus ina radio Where were you, man?
I'm telling you what it? MTV, Nike, Apple, I mean you
(11:00):
could think of brands that have changedeverything, I mean just everything. But
but it goes back to MTV.It changed the way that when music videos
came out, the way that thatshort films, if you will, were
shot. I mean, you know, you look at movies right now.
The camera was pretty steady, itpanned, it tilted into this man.
(11:22):
MTV was fast cut, rapid cut. They had whether it was concert footage
or whether it was a storyline ofor a chick who's dancing on a car
for White's nack. It's just itwas different. So MTV is just sadly,
it's just the shadow of what itwas. I don't even know I
MTV. He didn't even play videosanymore, man, But that was something
(11:43):
very important I know to me,and I mean a lot of people who
grew up in the in the eighties, and you know I am the king
of the eighties. Michael Garfield isthe name. Happy Saturday to you should
you be listening live. If it'snot Saturday, they means you were listening
on podcasts. Do you mind ifI give a big shout out to a
long time listener, a massive pone a very happy birthday all the way
(12:05):
to New Orleans, Louisiana, misterPerry Waggas back, Erry sixty years old.
Oh dude, I just totally culledyou out, brother dud look a
day over fifty nine. Absolutely oneof the longest listeners he tunes on on
I Heart Radio. He is avery good friend of mine, very good
friend of my family, a verygood friend of my friends. Perry.
(12:26):
We love you, Happy birthday, and thank you very much for tune and
in as I feel free to Perrynever forgets my birthday. He never forgets
my kid's birthday, and so wedon't want to miss amount. So happy
I'm not singing a brother, I'mnot I'm not singing, and I know
he's gonna text me for the nexthour and a half ask me why I'm
not singing. And I have myshirt on. Perry, I do my
(12:46):
radio show fully clothed, and soI know I disappointed him with that.
We do continue to the high techdecent show. I have a vote number
here is seven one three two onetwo five nine five nine five fifty am
k pear. See that's how wedo going back to the new phones.
This is what we have listened.I know solicit schools getting ready to start.
(13:09):
I'm more than happy to answer questionsabout back to school products. What
kind of laptops should you get yourkids if they're in college, they should
be different than some of the laptopsthat you're gonna get from ones in high
school to high school kids to kidsyounger than high school? Do they need
laptops? Do they need tablets?Do they need Number two pencils. Do
they make pencils that are another numberthan number two pencils? Questions I can
(13:31):
answer. So kids, suck itup. You get about another week or
so before you go back to school. Gosh, I'm so happy school is
over. Oh, I'm so happymy kids are finished with school. Oh
my goodness. I did not likeschool. But anyway, we need smart
kids, so keep going. Iwill answer questions like that. I'm also
gonna tell you, let's let mekind of finish this some of the stories
that I'm gonna go back and forthwith the some of the new products that
(13:54):
I saw. I am. It'ssafe to say I am the own person
in the city of Houston. I'mnot gonna go to the state of Texas.
I'm the only pre city of Houstonwho right now in my hand,
litter Lee has the yet to bereleased They're not on the market yet.
The new Samsung gear that was announcedlast weekend Soul Korea. I have the
(14:16):
Samsung Flip five, the fifth versionof it here is the Samsung Fold five.
The foldable foam that folds out tome makes it look like a small
tab. But I am wearing onmy left hand, on my left wrist.
I'm wearing the sixth generation of thewatch. It's the way I do
not have the Watch Class Act Iwas the one I was hoping to get
because that has the rotating bezel, and I'm so happy that Samsung brought back
(14:41):
the rotating bezel. The bezel isthe outside broke dial of almost every watch.
On smart watches, a lot ofthem. You know, you could
take your finger and swipe it up, down, left, you can see
different screens. Last I think itwas just it was version five. I
think that's when Samsung took away therotate bezel to go from screen to screen
(15:01):
and you could just kind of touchthe outside and rotate it. It didn't
work as well. They brought backto bezel. It's called to Watch six
Classic. I don't have that one, so I still do. Like this
Watch six that I'm wearing. Istill have to use my finger to rotate.
So there's my quick play by playoffAgain, I'm gonna give you some
pricing and all of these things comingup shortly, so if you are interested
(15:22):
in to watch, this is prettymuch the only I've since the second version
of the watch. And now I'mon the A six watch right now I
like that, do you want toflip or do you want to fold?
And if you said the commercials forthe Flip, Samsung is really hargeting younger
(15:43):
people particularly, I would say, even females girls. For the Flip five,
they brought over to Soul, Korea, they had sugar from BTS.
They brought in this actress, SydneySweeney. She's an American actress who's in
some show an HBO called I don'teven know what it's called. So she
(16:04):
was there. She was showing itoff and taking pictures with some you know,
Korean models were very pretty. Andbut the commercials they you know this
girls are outside, they're taking pictures, but they're really stepping in the fact
that this is a camera that worksphenomenal for taking photos in selfies. Now,
while the Flip phone doesn't have thebest camera compared to other Samsung phones,
(16:27):
it just inherently it doesn't just becauseof the small form factor. Does
not take better pictures than the fold, does not take better pictures than the
currency. I think the best photocamera that takes photos of the market is
the Samsung S twenty three, theGalaxys twenty three, even the s twenty
twos. Right now, those thingsare great. But anyway, I want
(16:48):
you to imagine and when you seethese commercials and you'll understand, or if
you want to google the whole thing, or if you actually follow me on
any of my social media. Yousee me holding up the form factor for
the flip phone. Because it opensup as like a clamshell. You can
open it up to ninety degrees,so you've got it can lay flat on
the table. But then again partof it props up. That's the part
(17:11):
with a camera, so you don'tneed to ask somebody to take your photo.
Excuse me? Can you take aphoto and say you actually can take
Put it on the table, putit somewhere, go stand in front of
the camera and you don't even needit. You used to be you had
to set the timer by default thisphone slash camera on the Flip five,
(17:34):
you can smile. You can holdyour hand up, open your hand and
hold it up like five fingers.Hold it up. The AI notices you're
holding up. It starts the countdowntimer for about three seconds. So that's
neat to it's it's it flips itforms again. I made some videos.
You can go on YouTube look forMichael Garfield and in some of my social
(17:56):
media it's nice. Some of theprice says. Let me give you some
of the prices right now. Igot an email from Verizon. It works
on Verizon, and it works onT Mobile, and it works on AT
and T. I do believe thatI will. Let's see, I'm gonna
give you the play by play. Here we go. Here's the pricing.
This is from Verizon gam The GalaxyZ Flip five comes in a few colors
(18:19):
of mint, graphite cream, andlavender. I actually have the Mint one
about twenty eight bucks a month forthirty six months. Pretty much. It's
nine hundred and ninety nine dollars retail, but they'll let you lease it if
you will, for thirty six months. The Fold five, which I'll talk
about a little later, comes anicy blue cream and phantom black. It's
(18:41):
eighteen hundred dollars. I know.Just take a breath, people, I'll
tell you what it's all to.Included for eighteen hundred dollars should be all
you can eat buffet for a year, but it's not fifty bucks a month
for thirty six months. That's onVerizon devices too. They also have a
switch offer. They Verizon right nowand you get I'm just reading a press
release from George korro'neos. With theVerizon you could trade in some select old
(19:07):
phones and you can get a GalaxyZ Flip five pretty much almost for nothing,
or a thousand dollars towards the Fold. You do need a new plan
on a limited plus, there's anupgrade offer if you want to upgrade,
you can trade in some select phonesunqualified five G unlimited plans. You can
(19:30):
get up to a thousand dollars offthe Z Flip five which is almost three
or the Z Fold five for alimited time. You get five hundred and
twelve GIG of storage for the priceof two hundred and fifty six gig when
you pre order in again. Theycome out August eleventh, which is this
coming Friday. When you pre orderthese things, they so number different,
they so no there's your pricing, but pretty much think of this. It's
(19:52):
about a thousand dollars for the Flip, it's about eighteen hundred dollars for the
Fold. I'll get to the otherretail for the watches. The watches start
around three hundred and fifty dollars goto your provider because they may offer some
special incentive. At the bottom ofthe hour, go take a breath.
Where working to come back. Iwill talk about more and maybe we're going
to give something away as we treatyou to the end of the morning.
Saturday fun stuff here on KPRC ninefifty am with the High Detection Show You
(20:23):
Napped. I was the food whenI was in Seoul, South Korea,
last week week and a half ACA. It was very good food and one
time it got I got to seethe city toward this city, got to
go up in the big Soul Towerbecause I'm a soul man. We went
to an eight. We went toa South Korean market, walked around and
(20:45):
you would think I would have someSouth Korean fried chicken. Korean fried chicken.
Actually no, I had one ofthe better pizzas I've ever had in
my life. Don't laugh. Itwas like this gargon Zola Fontina cheese.
Thing was awesome. As we welcomeyou back at his Michael Garfield and as
the High Tech texted show world Drivelerthat I am recanting stories of soul and
the Samsung press conference and other thingsthat I saw when I was eight thousand
(21:10):
miles away about a week and ahalf ago. I did see speaking of
pizza. I saw this. Youknow, I don't like this term.
I don't like the word influencer.I think it's just it's a b s.
It's crap. I just don't likeit. I don't think I am
an influencer, even though it wasreally nice. I think it was the
(21:32):
Houston Chronicle. They were doing astory on me two years ago on my
twentieth anniversary of the High Tech Texts, and they had called me. They
called me an influencer before the wordinfluencer was actually created. Whether it is
or not, Listen anybody in themedia, certainly if you're on the radio
and you hear's talk about a product, I mean, and we talked longingly
about it. At least I knowI do, because before I endorse your
(21:53):
product, I truly truly use theproduct, know the product, know the
owner, know the company. Itshould enhance your life when I talk about
it. Yeah, my job isto influence you to go buy it.
And this goes back to my QVCdays. My first job ever. I
was just right out of college.I was on QVC. I was selling
crap at you know, two orthree or four in the morning, and
(22:15):
whether it was I had to talkten minutes about diamonique, the second hardest
known substance to man or Capo dumonte, beautiful figurines or Black Hill's goal,
whatever it is, and you haveten minutes a call. Operators are standing.
But I was in an influencer. That's that was my job anyway.
Influencers now influencers, they're they're they'reteens. They don't know anything about it.
(22:37):
Just give me some money and I'lljust smile with it, you know
whatever. But companies like influencers. And let me get back to the pizza
thing. There is a company calledSlice. It's an online food ordering service.
It's been around for like ten twelveyears. They want to empower independent
(22:59):
pizzerias that powers the big chains blahblah blah whatever. Anyway, they work
with nineteen thousand pizza reas all overthe country. What I'm getting at the
company is looking for a pizza influencer, one of pizza influencer to eat pizza,
make TikTok videos, Instagram reels. The job. Hey's anywhere between eighty
(23:22):
five to one hundred and ten thousanddollars. Oh, by the way,
with a weekly pizza stipend to bootthe world's first plea pizza influencer. I'm
not going to tell you where toapply because I already sent this to my
kids, my three boys, oneof which my youngest one, to his
gounoman influencer. He runs a numberof different online to social media sites.
(23:48):
Are you kidding me? Where wasthis when I graduated? I just,
I just you ever thought you livein a time that you weren't supposed to
be in? I mean if Iif I wasn't in my twenties right now,
I mean I would just what adifferent world. I mean the chicks
now they were stuff that that femalesin the eighties, what or nineties or
(24:14):
they didn't wear that stuff. It'slike, dang man, I still wouldn't
have the gurage. You go upand talk to him. But whoa and
the job opportunities. I mean,I mean my twenty three year old songs.
He's he's living there, he's livingmy life. He's living the times
life, covering sports, he's oncamera and he's doing this thing, he's
doing deals. I love it.That's why I'm never growing up. Did
(24:37):
anybody want a fifty plus year oldinfluencer. I am your guys seven one
three, two one two, fivenine five. If you eat pizza every
week, though, aren't you gonnabecome fat and you're gonna really not good
on camera and you're not gonna bean influencer. These are questions, hard
hitting questions that I am. Iam here for you. Email over here,
Michael, huh, I'm looking fora hy I've had a fit fit.
(25:02):
I've had a fit, I've hada fitbit forever. I heard you
talk about the new Samsung Watch.Does the Samsung Watch work with Apple?
Is it only on Android? Doesit work? And how does it compare
with the other ones, because I'mnot sure. Once this new watch is
released next week, the older modelsare going to be cheaper. All good
questions. Okay, that was fromJoshua. Joshua is in Parland, Texas.
(25:25):
So Samsung released two new watches lastweek. They're not out. They
go on sale August elevens of thiscoming Friday. It's the sixth version.
It's called the Galaxy Watch six andthe Watch six Classic, and they are
going to be joining the Galaxy Watchfive Pro. And I have the Watch
five Pro. So these three watches, they're all over the pricing scale.
(25:52):
The Watch five Pro, it's gotsome sports modes that could be helpful,
helpful if you're running, if you'rereally doing some activities stuff. Let me
give you some prices here though. The Watch six, this is the one
that I have about three hundred dollarsfor the smaller size forty millimeter, three
hundred thirty bucks for a forty fourmillimeter size. That's how watches are marriage
measured. If you want to goup to the Galaxy Watch six Classic,
(26:15):
that's the one with the new physicalrotating bezel. That's the one that sadly
I was not given to play withbecause I really wanted to play with that
bezel because I love it. Fourhundred dollars to four hundred and thirty dollars.
But if you want to go backto the Galaxy Watch five problem,
that's higher. That's four hundred fiftydollars. These new editions in the Galaxy
(26:37):
Watch six, they're gonna ship withGoogle's updated operating system. It's called Google
Ware w e r OS four operatingsystem four. Watch five is going to
get an update two to that software. Also, they the I will tell
you this. The one I'm wearingright now, it came with a very
different band for activities. They kindof copied the fitbit band. This is
(27:00):
for the Watch six that I'm wearingright now. And again, if you
see me around and I'm gonna bewearing the Watch six, and don't ask
for the rotating besil because I didnot get that one, but the watch
so I've got the three hundred, three hundred thirty dollars version of it.
This is is water resistant. Itis believe or not. It is easy.
I could take my finger and Icould touch the outside or touch the
(27:22):
screen and go up and back.I think that the touch features are a
little easier on this new version thanit is on previous versions to go from
screen to screen of screen. Itdoes communicate with my Samsung obviously, Sam
Sung and Samsung and Android and Android, so I can get all my emails,
I can get all my messages.I could talk to it. I
can pretend I'm Dick Tracy and Icould talk on the phone if I bluetooth
it over to my phone too.But it also some of the new features
(27:48):
that they were really touting, andthey had the head of I think it's
the head of watch for Samsung. He's a doctor, doctor Pack, I
think it was his name. Hewas on stage in Korea last week.
They have really trying to prove thesleep features, the sleep functions because watches,
if you wear the watches like this, if you wear them to bed,
wear them to sleep, they willmonitor your sleep pattern based on the
(28:11):
motion bait do you move? Andso I've been wearing mine here for a
week and I have not been sleepingwell according to my watch. I don't
know, you know, I justsit there in the middle of my bed
spread eagle and you know, sometimesI guess I flop around or something like
that, but I don't know.It knows, am I un rim sleep?
And it shows patterns and it'll giveyou a sleep score, like a
(28:33):
sleep number if you will, eventhough that maybe I actually be a trademark
for a mattress. But it workswith sleep. But it also knows when
I'm exercising it because it's got theit's got sensors in there, so they've
got optical heart rate, electrical heartsignals, bioelectrical impudence analysis, They've got
temperature sensors in there, the accelerometers, that's how they know when you're moving.
(28:56):
It's got a BOMA or a gyrosensor, geomagnetic sensor, light sensors,
listen. There's a lot of anumber of other watches out there that
does this. Yes, it doeshave the emergency SOS. It does have
fall detection, so if you falland you can't get up, you can
have it contact somebody too. Iwould recommend, though, to answer your
(29:18):
question doesn't work with iOS I'm notgoing to tell you not to go get
your Apple Watch. There's a lotof people have it. There was a
lot of journalists at the Samsung pressconference who had iPhones and Apple Watches.
I'm like, okay, you dowhat you can do. You may not
Samsung may not give you any anyof these loaner items to play with.
You may just want to stick inyour bio the whole biosystem. If you
(29:45):
have an Apple phone, you mayjust want to get an Apple Watch.
But if you do have an Android, it doesn't have to be just a
Samsung. I do like it.What gout what what the where? Operating
system? This is the new operatingsystem, the fourth generation where OS four.
It works very well. I thinkthese are sleek yes, you can
change the bands. You can havedifferent colors, you can have class bands,
(30:06):
you can kind of sex it up. Another thing is that you can
do this in many of these otherwatches that you don't know. You can
change the face of the watch. Also, it's all software based. I
mean you could change the face ofa watch to make it look like it's
a Movado, you know, justit's you know, got that little dot
at twelve o'clock and you've got theanalog looking hands that go around. It
was neat because the first thing Idid when I was playing my watch,
(30:26):
I whipped it out. Excuse mea while I whipped this out. I
whipped it out in Korea, Iput I had I made my watch face
dual time zones, so I cantell what time it was and sold what
time is it back home here inHouston. I mean you could do this
it just with with a snap ofthe fingers. So they're configurable. And
I'm not too proud of wearing thesethings anywhere. Yes, I know,
(30:48):
when we come back, I'm gonnatell you about us coins and Jelry where
you can get your rolex to whichI also have. But these watches,
they can be very helpful and theycan in many instances save your life.
You can use them for mobile payments. Samsung. While it is on there,
there's voice assistance yet the Google Assistantis on there, Bixby is on
there, and they're compatible with thelatest versions of Android. So there you
(31:11):
go. I gave you your pricesagain, just to reiterate, anywhere from
about three hundred dollars all the wayup to four hundred, four hundred thirty
dollars for the latest Watch six Classic. And then if you want to go
for last year's model, do youWatch five Pro, You're also going to
get that four or about four hundredfifty dollars. So go ahead, go
outside and get yourself a watch.Break time. When we come back,
(31:33):
we'll take some phones. I'll tellyou a little bit more about Twitter.
I will tell you about that iPhonerumor iPhone fifteen allegedly coming out in the
fall. It's gonna have something thathas never been seen, never done before
on an iPhone, but the samSuing phones have had it for many,
many years. Minushtni it was Rybo. It was ry We approached the new
(32:04):
now or as we do the showlive on KPRC Night Steep. That's them.
AM ain't going anywhere, so shoutapp. It's in your car.
And if you don't want to listento your car, good for you.
Listen to it on the app. It's called the Iheartapp. Oh guess what,
it's free. You know what,it's pretty cool. The iHeartRadio app
works in almost every country in theworld. I don't know. I don't
(32:25):
may not work in China, butit certainly worked in at least South Korea.
I don't know. I was thirtymiles from North Korea. Didn't try
it there, but in South Korea, I was able to listen to my
own show and all the other favoriteshows that I listened to when I was
traveling downloaded exactly, absolutely free. And you can also listen to this show
and all your other favorites on yoursmart devices, you know, your Alexis
(32:45):
and your Googles, and just talkto it and just say tune into KPRC
on iHeartRadio, and you can listento me while you're cleaning and vacuuming and
whatever you're doing. Almost lunchtime overhere, and I there's not a lot
of Tex Mex restaurants over in SouthKorea. I will tell you that if
there were, I was not inthe right place at the right time.
(33:06):
I did see some Starbucks, Isaw Krispy Kreme's KFC, PF Changs,
I saw a lot of American brands. Tex Mex was not out there.
I got back last week and Ihad to run to Johnny Tamalies. I
needed to meet some chiladas. Ithink it's time to give a little something
away. Who wants to win,who wants to eat? Text becks some
good tex Mex callum as. Ilooked a look at you through the glass.
(33:28):
You are not eligible. You cannotyou, guys, as an employee
of I heart, you cannot win. I have a fifty five zero dollar
give card to the new, relativelynew Johnny Tamalis is located in Missouri City,
and I know there's one in Pasadena, but this one. It's from
Missouri City on the southwest side ofthis of Houston. It's on FM ten
(33:52):
ninety two. The exact address twentyseven twenty FM ten ninety two. So
it's like Murphy Road and Highway six. Oh my good free I scream number
one. But the margaritas are justawesome. The way. It just opens
to the wait staff is just ontop of it. You walk in.
They got the bar, they gotthe TV's rocket and rolling. It's a
great vibe. Get your enchiladas, get your tacos. They've got shrimp,
(34:14):
they got seafood of good stuff colornumber nine. Right now, I'll give
you the number seven one three twoone two five nine five oz color nine
column. If you wouldn't mind.If you get a busy signal that means
you're too late, saka out ofluck. But you get a five zero
fifty dollar that's that's a good mealman for a few people at Johnny Tamais.
(34:38):
If you didn't win, suck itup. Go by there. They
got great happy hours. Tell meyou heard it on the Garf Show,
The Michael Garfield Show, the real, really really good people at Johnny ems
MC dot com. At lunchtime approaches, I am getting hungry here. They
do not have an iPhone. Thelast iPhone I ever had was the very
(34:58):
first one, was the first ina listen, I'm not blowing smoke up
my you know what, but Iwas the very first person to have the
very first Apple iPhone in Houston, and I bought it it was six hundred
dollars. But I remember doing myshow from the AT and T store on
Southwest Freeway, right across from Iguess what was then the Compact Center.
(35:21):
Now it's the Oasis of Love, mister Joel Oistin. I did my show
and the line started forming. Rememberwhen Apple used to have people line up.
The line started forming about two orthree days and I was already in
the store doing my show live.It was a weekday. That's when I
had the weekday show. It wasJune. Oh no, yeah, it
was June twenty eighth, I believe, two thousand and seven. It was
(35:44):
my son's birthday and I was inline. I was in store, so
they just let me buy the firstone, so I had. That's I
think the last iPhone I had.I just I just always liked. I
think I had my BlackBerry was whatI had before that. Then we know
the story BlackBerry sadly over and thennow I've just been a kind of an
android guy. Anyway. iPhone don'tknow much about it. Everybody has it.
(36:07):
I get crapped from people going,oh man, you're not You're a
green dop blue dot. I don'teven what are you talking about I don't
what is this dot thing? Whocares? Man? I pick up my
phone. It's got icons for appsjust like your phone. I can text
just like your A phone. Ican make a phone call like your A
phone. Suck it up, okay, iPhone fifteen rumors around. Guess what
(36:31):
iPhone is expected to have on theirnew little phone? Oh, goodbye lightning
charger. Allegedly all models of theiPhone fifteen are gonna have a USB C
charger. Well, welcome to theclub. About damn time. I love
(36:57):
USBC more and more. You seenew cars an hell next hour, I'm
gonna talk about cars US when youwhen you hear the term USB, you
can see it. There's this it'sit's a little slot, it's you know,
maybe what three quarters of an inch. That's one type of USB,
and that's the type that was initiallylaunched. But there's a there's a letter
(37:19):
that goes with it. It's generallythe one I'm thinking of. It's been
around for many, many, manyyears. It's USB A. It's got
a larger plug. But then onthe other plug that you can convert it
to the blankenessing charger for iPhones. But you're going to see in new cars
right now. Not only is itthat larger USBA on there, there's a
smaller charger and that's called a USBC, the letter C. And what's interesting
(37:45):
about it is it's it's better,so much better than many other, many
other ways. Number One on theoldie fashion, which you which you're still
prevalent the USBA. How many timeshave you try to plug a USB in
and odds are you put it inthe wrong way. You've got to turn
it upside down. Odds are it'sa fifty to sixty percent to sixty percent
(38:07):
shot that you're going to put itupside down the wrong way. USBC does
not matter. It is a perfectsmall oval type of shape. It doesn't
matter which way you put it inworks. So that's number one. Number
two, it's a faster way totransfer data. It's a faster way to
charge your phone. That's why USBCis the way to go. And I
like the fact. Listen, ifindeed Apple does have the USBC, good
(38:30):
for them, because there needs tobe something universal, I mean across all
platforms. The first and foremost it'sthe waste of the environment, the plastic
that goes into these chargers in thecables, I lose my charge. If
there's one standard charger, maybe weonly need one or two or just a
(38:52):
few of them in our homes orin our cars. Instead of you've got
your I phone, I've got anAndroid phone. I got products that actually
charged by USBA, the USBC.If we can make it standard, we
can now start doing things, certainlywirelessly charged, but the USBC is is
a fashion way to do it.That's really good. Also, on the
iPhone fifteen, it's gonna be slimmerbezels, it's gonna be more screen.
(39:17):
One's gonna have a titanium finish.Great, doesn't matter because you're gonna have
a case on it. Anyway, should be a new upgraded chip and uh,
I think the highest one the iPhonefifteen Promax, that's gonna have a
periscope lens, which I do notknow what that means. Allegedly, they're
gonna come out the pattern that Applehas had they release. They've released new
(39:40):
phones mostly around September. Occasionally they'vegone as late as November. There's no
there haven't been any reports of issueswith supply chains. I don't think this
time. My guess they'll probably announceit octobersh two weeks later. They're gonna
be there and it's gonna cost anywherebetween my guest be four versions, the
iPhone fifteen, the Plus, thePro, the Pro Max. They're probably
(40:04):
gonna start at eight hundred. They'llprobably go up to thirteen hundred dollars.
As we end this, I havenot even given you my reviews, my
thoughts on the other announcement phone thatSamsung made. It's the Samsung Galaxy Fold
five eighteen hundred dollars. Is thatthe world's most expensive phone? What does
eighteen hundred dollars get you? Andwould you spend eighteen hundred dollars on a
(40:29):
phone? I will let you decideonce I give you all the facts and
all the details what Samsung has puton this. Our number one is over.
We do have a winner for JohnnyTOMORROWI stop going next hour. We
have a Binny Hannah gift card andmany other things, so don't go anywhere.
So how much phone we're having?Michael Garfield is my name, Thanks
for being my friend. I'm ahigh tech Text and Show Hi Texan is
(41:04):
Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield, HichaelGarfields joining the high tech Texan, Michael
Garfield is here with a high techtext. It is to make life easier
technology. So Michael Garfield has somethingyou might like. Hi, tex Michael
Garfield is your high tech Texan, three decades helping you make magic with your
(41:30):
gadgets. Heard worldwide on the iHeartRadioAct. Now your high tech Texan Michael
Garfield. If you just tune itin, I'd like to locome to do
the second half of the high TechText and Show. We're halfway through the
show, as we say, weare a halfway to happy Hour, and
I'll the first Saturday in August.Oh man, I hope your happy hour
(41:55):
has already started. People wherever youare, I do hope you're listening inside
of my air conditioning. If notby a pool, feel free to have
a cocktail on me because and teamminus fifty four minutes or so, I
will be joining you. The bigvoice said Michael Garfield. And I have
a comeback. I have returned frommy worldwide is stent. I was the
(42:15):
high Tech South Korean last week.I was in Soul, Korea. Yeah,
a little vak. I'm seeing what'sgoing on. And no, I
did not pick up a mail orderbride and bring her back. Tried now
didn't work. I had some goodfood, and I did get to go
to the Samsung Worldwide press conference forthe announcement of their two new phones,
(42:35):
the new Flip five phone, theFold five phone, their watches, and
also their new tablet, the TabletS nine. If you've listened to the
first hour, I kind of gaveyou the key by p the play by
play rundown of the Flip unfoldable phone. The Flip phone, it's got a
whole new screen, which is nice. You don't even have to flip it
open, and you go do alot of things on the outside. That's
(42:58):
pretty much the major change. TheZee Fold five, the phone that folds
over left to right. It foldsout into almost a very small tablet.
Size always been a little heavy forme. If you are, I mean,
I don't carry a purse. Imean guess I could, but I
don't. And you know, Icarry my phone in my pocket, my
front pocket. I don't have ayou know, like a case like I
(43:20):
used to on my belt back inthe day. But uh, if you
know, I wear my skinny jeansand you know, shoving that that Fold
five, which is kind of atall phone. It's it's hello, nice
to meet you. My name isMichael, and that is a phone in
my pocket. There's certain cases whereit is very nice, but I will
tell you it's a it's a verydecent camera. We were able to test
it out on a number of differentthings that we toured around the beautiful city
(43:45):
of Seoul, and uh I wascomparing the cameras between the Flip five,
which has two lenses and the Foldfive, which has three lenses. Full
five obviously it's good, gonna giveyou certain more processors and there's more room
to you know, put processors ofcamera over there if you like it for
camera. So if you like this, spid eighteen hundred dollars when they are
(44:06):
released this coming Friday, feel freeto go get yourself a full five.
And thousand dollars is what the retailfull value for the Flip five is it.
Again, there's a lot of alot of your carriers are going to
be offering discounts. Verizon has anumber of things where if you trade in
an older phone, the flip phoneis almost free and for the full phone
you can get about a thousand dollarsoff talked about the watches, the sixth
(44:29):
version of the Samsung Watch six.I do have to Watch six. It's
on my wrist right now, andit is checking my pulse, it is
checking my blood oxygen level, it'schecking my sleep. And this is what
smart watches do it nowadays. Thesenew ones started about three hundred dollars and
they can go up to just overfour hundred dollars depending on what version you
(44:50):
want. A little later this hour, I'll talk a little about a tablet.
Not the biggest user of a tablet, because I'm just I'm always at
home my home office. I've gota thirty two inch Actually I have two
thirty two inch curved monitors. Ihave what one two I'm looking at literally
four phones right now, one ofwhich folds out into almost a very small
tablet, you know size, SoI don't really use the tab. The
(45:14):
only time I use the tablet, honestly, is when I travel on an
airplane and I want to download somemovies where I just want to actually want
to stream the live TV on theon the airplane, I'll bring the tablet
this way, I don't have toturn on the laptop and set it there
with the keyboard. This is thenew S nine really nice big screen size,
And I think the biggest news isall of the new tablet on the
(45:35):
S nine series. They're am LEDscreens AMO LED, which is an LED
version very crest. They're no longerjust you know LCD screens are. They're
LED, you know, just likethe iPads, the latest iPads too,
and the screen resolution is just phenomenal. So then you know, that's my
quick up and down of what's goingon. What did I miss here?
I missic the start of Houston RestaurantWeeks that has been going on for the
(46:00):
past two days. This is thetime of year I do like Euston Restaurant
Weeks, and I haven't heard muchabout it. Again, I was gone
for the big press conference and sothe first one I've missed probably in a
decade and a half or so.But this is the month where there a
lot of restaurants are donating a fewextra shekels and dollars for lunches and dinners
to the Euston Food Bank. Theydo raise a lot of money and so
(46:22):
should you ever want to get outto try a nice restaurant, maybe it's
fancy schmancy. They do have aspecial menu for lunch and dinner that does
discount a few things. Some ofthem are three courses, some of them
or four courses, and so youcan get out and try it. I
will probably hop over one am.I always favorites. You know, I'm
a Capital Grill fan, specifically theCapital Grill in the galleria on West Timer,
(46:45):
where my man Steve Jost is theproprietor at least the managing partner.
What have they got over here?Let me look at the he come look
at the menu. So here's athis a dinner. You get a choice
of a wedge with blue cheese,yo field green salad with parmesan gnagrette,
or you get a New England clamchowdah. And then you could choose a
(47:06):
ten ounce filet some Chilan sea bassor roasted chicken breast or seared salmon if
there's my choice. And you alsocan get a slice filet mignon and boning.
You can get mashed potatoes, yougot dessert. Um this all for
one price. Seing. That's justone thing. So if you if you
would like to go to the CapitalGrill, if you like to go to
any of the other one hundred plusrestaurants. Go check out Houston restaurant weeks
(47:30):
dot com. I guess it runsthrough Labor Day or so. So it's
nice to be able to come backto the States. And because it's it's
comfort food, that's comfort. Ihave a locker. I do not have
a wine locker capital grill. Iactually have a bourbon locker. If you
do go in, you will seeGeorge hw Bush's locker. May he rest
in peace. I wonder who hasthe key for that. I guess Steve
(47:52):
does. Steve Joe's the imagining partner. And then just below him there is
my locker. Do not break intoit. They got cameras on people.
If you want a sip of goodhigh end bourbon, ask me nicely.
Maybe I'll meet you over there andup for you one. So we're whatever
you are sipping and eating. Goodluck to you. We're gonna talk about
come back to some bad news inAmerica. Just on August first, this
(48:15):
past Tuesday, August first, Notonly was it the forty second anniversary of
the day that MTV launched, there'sa new rule. It's a band.
We have a band on incandescent lightbulbs. Did you know that it's been
sixteen years in the making and it'sfinally here. Well kind of. When
I come back from this break,I'm gonna tell you why no longer incandescent
(48:37):
light bulbs were a good thing, and I don't think you could buy him.
And I don't know. Is theBold police gonna be knocking on our
doors like Burger Meister, Meister Burger, checking to see if we have incandescent
bulbs. Man Thomas said us inturning over his grave. Right now,
I'll tell you what is band, what is not band, and why is
(48:58):
it band? I'll also tell youthat Twitter how we don't call it Twitter
anymore, It's called x. Butalso coming up, my good friends Steve
Winter, he runs a company calledAstounds. He's going to give you a
little play by play, a littleup and down of websites and search engine
marketing, search engine optimization, andsome tricks and tips of the trade.
Make sure that your website is upto snuff nowadays so people can find you
(49:20):
and probably buy your wares. That'show we do it. Right here,
Michael is my name. This isthe High Tech Texing Show back at up.
We do think for continuing to listento the High Tech Texting Show back
in Houston from our world Wide Travelsseven one three two one two five nine
(49:45):
five zho. Websites continue to beso important. Google is important, and
you know, every few weeks wedo like to give you some tips and
ideas if you do run websites, you know, how do you get more
traffic and how do you get higherranked in Google? And for that I
turned to my expert who comes onthis show. His name is Steve Winter.
Steve runs a company here at Htowncalled Astounds a stou in DZ.
(50:10):
They designed websites. They designed mywebsite when I was over in Korea posting
some new things about the Samsung.I was easily, you know, I
logged in and they make it verysimple for me. They gave me some
neat tools and I try to maximizemy search engine optimization by putting keywords.
It's a lot of neat stuff. And so I turned to Steve, who
(50:30):
joins me right now, who alsojust turned from a Worldwide Escape. Steve,
you were in Scotland playing golf whileI was in Korea looking at phones.
I mean, we're just worldwide travelershere absolutely, But you know you
talk about coming back to h town. It's hot town right now, that's
for sure. Did you see thestatu July is I'm not making this up.
July was the hottest month ever recordedin Earth's history. True story.
(50:57):
Yeah. Well, you know,we don't even get into all that too.
But you know, also a lotof these recordings are coming now in
the middle of cities where the temperaturegauges are behind brick buildings all that,
and that's also helping things a littlebit. But there's no it is really
hot right now. It's a conspiracy. It's a conspiracy. No more,
there's no conspiracy. Actually, it'sthese are proven tactics. And that's a
(51:20):
second I'll talk about. Yeah, but I want I want to go back
to these website things and when youcreate, you kind of re invented,
if you will, you kind ofyou know, upgraded my website. Gosh,
it's been about a year and ahalf. It's just it's so simple.
And if if anybody has a websitethat hasn't been upgraded in several years,
I highly recommend you do so becausethis is you know, you need
to optimize it for the mobile, you need to optimize it for the desktop,
(51:42):
the laptops, and certainly you mayneed to make sure you have it
optimized for search engines, certainly ifyou want people to find your site for
trying to sell some things. Thisis what astounds your company is so good
at not only designing the websites andmaking those tools where it's so simple for
me that I just sit there, types some words, upload a video.
It optimizes it too. But there'sother new things out there. You've got
(52:04):
to stay one step ahead of thegame because it's you know, Google's out
there. They're changing the way thatthat their stats are going, AI is
out there, usability of how it'stracking some things. What is the latest
and greatest things that you're seeing rightnow that you can give us some listeners
some tips well, and you know, Michael, as we say, the
more things change, the more theystay the same. But but what we're
seeing right now and some things thatwe've been reading about two and all that
(52:29):
is is Google Search, right They'rewanting to make sure that they, you
know, can compete and with chatand GPT and all these things coming on.
And one of the things they're tryingto do is keep you more on
their search results paid and one ofthe things that they're doing is bringing back,
you know, some information that theyfind in reviews, in their Google
reviews, and so you know,we've always talked about it with our platfor
(52:50):
Google reviews are really really important andyou know, having them responding to the
reviews so people know that they're real, but having people you know, I'm
just saying, oh, you know, Michael Garfield's great, which we all
know, we need to know whathe's great at. Really a great MC
and a radio spokesperson and things likethat. For your products you want,
you want good reviews out there thatare detailed or whatever, and and really
(53:14):
pushing your clients to help give youthose reviews. And you know, we
create a link on your on ourclients websites to where they can go to
that review page very quickly with thevanity you are ound that takes them right
to their Google reviews because they're gettingmore and more important every day, well
that these reviews are and I tryto get make sure that you know,
I'm getting thumbs up in stars allthe time. We talking to Steve Winter.
(53:36):
Steve knows what he's talking about. He runs a company called us Downs.
Should you need search engine optimization, search marketing optimization, website. This
is this is the company for you. How do we go about it?
I mean, do you need tohave a new website? Uh, you
know when it comes to Google reviewsor some of these things. Is in
a simple process? Do you needhandholding by a company like you? Well,
I mean on the reviews. Imean what we like to do is
(54:00):
once you get a good group ofreviews, is we stream those reviews from
Google on the home page of yourwebsite. Okay, So that way people
don't have to go search for itand all that they see reviews right there.
And especially, you know, dependingwhat product or service you're selling or
whatever. I mean, you're goinghigh up plumber and accountant, you know,
electrician, whatever, saying what thosereviews are and and looking at them.
(54:21):
People pay attention to it. Andso what we do is help the
clients where it's very easy to sendout a link and we coach them how
to send it out to their clientsto get these reviews, you know,
and what to look for and thento respond to them. So you get
them. But it's a you knowinternally, you know, well, we'll
give everyone twenty bucks or something likethat. If they get a review.
I mean, there are things thatwe do to intent our folks that if
(54:44):
a client saying, God, welove y'all, we love what you did,
I go, please go get themto give us a review because it
matters so much. And like Isay, it's mattering more and more now
in a result, you know, and getting good result on you know,
showing up and your g your Googlebusiness listing is like a little micro side
out there and you know, itshows up a mobile and and all that
(55:05):
just another way for you to showup, so to invest time and getting
your clients. And you know,it can be clients, vendors, friends,
anyone who you deal with can giveyou a review and talk about,
you know, the credibility or whatever. But it all matters. And you
know, in Google's one of theirbig algorithms states several years ago talked about
expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness andthat's what they want to see on a
(55:30):
home page. And by being ableto stream those reviews that that absolutely answers
several of those. It is importantfor websites that don't sell anything or should
you really worry about this all?If you're selling products or even me I
mean, should I be looking forreviews and I'm not selling anything. I'm
just your trying to technology resource. No, you're selling. You're selling yourself,
(55:51):
right. I mean, if youwant to be an MC and you
want people to use an MC,you want people to go out there and
say, man, we had Michaeldid a great job. You know,
raised tons of money. We didwhatever we're all, I mean very seldom
we run in people everyone's want. But everyone's selling something with their website.
Okay, I don't care if yourprofessional services or you're selling products or whatever
(56:12):
you're on products. We actually havereviews for products out there. But when
it's just a you know, aservice business, which a lot of small
businesses are of some sort, theymatter for everything. It's absolutely true.
Steve Winter, he's with thestunds askeoun dz dot Comicstounds. Feel free to
contact him. I ask him forhis phone number for you folks out there.
(56:34):
One more we got about the twominutes or so? What other things?
Google reviews makes sense? But whatelse you have about your sleeping Yeah,
I mean you know the other thingwe're doing right now And the easiest
way backlinks to your website from thirdparty sites are the again, those are
can really change. We're working witha pest control company here in Houston,
which I think some of your companyworks with too, and we have gotten
(56:55):
some really good high domain authority backthings and it is completely moved them.
If you search best Control in Houston, you know they're gonna be in the
top one, two three listings nowwhere they weren't before. And you know,
great companies and and those are thethings. So getting good backlinks and
one of the things that just werefer to them or the Google you know,
the Internet refers to them as citations. But you're you're Google listing,
(57:17):
you're YEP listing. You know, all of the different listings directory listings out
there that are linking to your siteare all good high domain authority back links.
But you have to have to makesure. You've got to make sure
you've got their same phone number, the same domain name. You know,
everything is consistent. Your name, address and phone number are consistent out there
across all of the different listings. And you know it's it's a one time
(57:39):
cost and we'll do it across youknow, one hundred plus listing sites.
Um, but you know, butman, it gets you there, and
those are great back links that youneed to do. Expect if you move
or change your address. Okay, something happens, then you need to go
and get all those citations updated. And like I said, and then beyond
that is just we go out well, we will write content, find good
(58:01):
to high domain authority sites and getthem to link back to your site and
it can really move the needle. And how you're doing end results makes sense.
So everybody out there who's listening,if you have a website, please
link to high tech Texan dot comso I could be listed higher. You
see, I'm already getting tents fromyour brother. We're gonna make myself.
Hey, these are all good tipsif we didn't cost a thing. And
(58:22):
the fact is, uh, ifyou're interested in anybody out there, if
you're interested even just get upgraded yourwebsite and Steve you do this all the
time. It doesn't cost anything toat least talk to you, talk to
one of your folks out there, just kind of an assessment of what you
can do to help, because youcan help with so many levels. And
you don't have to be in Houston, man, this is the Internet,
people of I mean, you couldbe you could be in Scotland or Korean.
I know you can help them too. Yep, we've helped one public
(58:45):
company of our plan of ours probablyhave three hundred unique websites now across the
US and Canada. So it's phenomenal. Yeah, all right, phone number,
people want to hit you well, and really the website as sounds as
t O U N d z asin Zebra dot com, douns dot com
is the best way you can readabout us. You can see everything and
(59:05):
connect to us there. It's gotour phone number. Everything you need to
know there who needs a phone? It's all web all the time. Astounds
dot com, who created high techtexting dot com. You give us some
good information. Steve, appreciate yourtime. A man, get out there.
Uh and next time you go toScotland and I do want to play
the old course and so let meknow something. He got it rub it
in, brother it. I appreciatetime. Stounds dot com. You got
(59:28):
it all right. Bottom of thehour. You can't go anywhere it because
coming back with it's time. Theygive away some gift cards and give you
some more fun information about new carsand trucks. You want a truck I've
been testing two or three. I'lltell you some of my favorite pickup trucks
on the market right now, andalso some that actually are really really good
deals and buys if you can findthem on the dealership. Lits Michael Garfield.
It's called the High Tech, Techand Show. Just under thirty minutes
(01:00:01):
to go in this episode, whatdo you want to talk about? Open
phone lines? If you have aquestion seven one three two one two fifty
nine fifty it's five to nine five. Oh, that number has not changed,
believe it or not in the twentytwo plus years I have been doing
this show. Well, when Istarted the show, we did not do
email. We had big old cellphones that probably costs you ten cents a
(01:00:24):
minute to call. You can callfrom anywhere around the world. You know
what use What's Apple? I used, Michael Garfi. By the way,
I used What's Apple a lot.I did make a lot of phone calls.
The world is a small place.Technology makes this world so much smaller.
Last week, I'm in Asia andI remember it's not that I'd taken
(01:00:47):
a ton of international trips in mylife, but back of the day,
I pull up a Cherichal Garf he'stelling stories right now. Man. You
had to make sure that you hadto go get some whatever work country you're
going to, you had to goget cash, you had to have calling
cards, you had to have justjust a number of different things. I
literally packed like a day and ahalf before, didn't bring too much.
(01:01:12):
Didn't even bother to figure out whattype of monetary system they have in Korea,
which by the way, it's calledthe one wo N I didn't have
to worry about even upgrading my phoneat the simcard to OS or international calling
plans. It's just because I knewWi Fi is so ubiquitous in this world.
I'm on a plant, and thisis how quickly technology catches up.
(01:01:37):
I know, one the plan. When you fly in the continental United States,
there is Wi Fi on most allthe planes. I fly a lot
on Southwest. I actually flew Unitedthis time, so in the continent,
Gust, I mean, I canget Wi Fi. You can pay eight
bucks or whatever. And if youif you're an upgraded or you know,
if you have status on an airline, maybe it's free. I land in
(01:01:58):
San Francisco and that's where I Iswitched planes for my twelve hour flight directly
San Francisco to Seoul, and Iremember that internationally you could not wi fi
didn't work. It just didn't work. Guess what, I never lost wi
Fi signal from Houston to Seoul. We take off from San Francisco and I'm
like what, I'm over the freakingPacific Ocean. I'm just sitting there texting.
(01:02:22):
Of course, everybody was sleeping backhome. I'm just surfing, emailing,
getting some business done. It's justit's it's so simple right now.
You know, I started the showtwenty years ago. I used to give
a lot of travel tips. Whatkind of batteries do you need? You
needed some, you know, someextra battery power. What's the maximum size
(01:02:43):
battery that you could take on aplane, which by the way is twenty
thousand millams. Nowadays it's like whatever, Just get on a plane, take
take an extra battery, and getyour WiFi and it's got I get the
seul, the airport's got wif five. You get to the hotel that's got
wifive. You go to internet cafes, you go to museums. You just
did. This is why it's it'sit's a small place, and so I'm
(01:03:04):
still here to give you travel tipsif you need it at seven one three,
two one two five to nine five. Oh. I get back in
the United States and I see this, uh, and I start looking around
my house and all my light bulbs, and there's a list. Past tuesday,
America has a ban on incandescent lightbulbs. Did you know that?
There was a rule from the twothousand and seven It was rolled back by
(01:03:28):
the Trump administration. It was updatedlast year by the Biden administration, and
it effectively bans the sale of commonincandescent light bulbs. And the rule went
into effect this past Tuesday, Augustfirst. And the rule that was passed
by the Department of Energy about ayear ago. It says that light bulbs
must emit a minimum of forty fiverumins for walked and a lumen. It's
(01:03:53):
a measure of brightness. That's allyou need to know. And it effectively
outlaws the manufacturing sale of common incandescentbulbs. And those are the kind that
you screw into really the majority oflight sockets around your home. And really
that's because traditional incandescent bulbs they're gonnagive you maybe about fifteen lumens per what
And that's I'm on the Phillips lightbulb website. By contrast, most LED
(01:04:18):
bulbs you're gonna get seventy five lumensper what not all incandescent. But everybody's
running around unscrewing their lightbulbs right now. How many aggums does it take down
the screw light bulb? Oh?No, no time for aggie jokes.
I have a lot of aggie listeners. We love you too. Not all
incandescent lightbulbs are banned as part ofthis new role. Here's a quick list
(01:04:40):
of what manufacturers can still build instore and can't continue selling so they can
con black lights. Hey man,you want to go to see my poster
and watch it glue in a dart, bug lamps, infrared lamps, plant
lights, floodlights, refractor lamps, you can traffic signals, your appliance lamps,
(01:05:02):
fridge and other lights, so youcan still buy those. And quite
simply they're doing this is because newtechnology that is including LED lights, they
provide a much more energy efficient wayto light your home. Now, Department
of Energy, should you want tobelieve them? They astimate the rules going
to save you as consumers about threebillion dollars on their utility bills. Really,
(01:05:26):
I want to say three billion.I'd love to say freaking three dollars
of my utility bill. It's alsogoing to cut planet warming carbon emissions.
Yeah, all right, email comingin, Jessica, Michael, you're scaring
me? Do you I have tothrow out my whole light bulbs? Calm
down, people, calm down, getting to it. You can continue to
use whatever light bulbs you like aslong as they still work. Now,
(01:05:49):
I'm telling you right now. Incandescen'shave a much shorter lifespan than LEDs.
So the ban is only on themanufacturer and the sale of lightbulbs that produce
fewer than forty five luomas per watch. It's not the usage of non conforming
bulbs. It's you just can't buythese things anymore. It's it's kind of
(01:06:09):
controversial. The band really ends ata decades long bipartisan effort to ban in
condessem bubles, and it started inthe Bush administration. Look at me all
political here, but the rules hashad some backlash, particularly on conservative media
channels and some Republican politicians. Trumphis administration in twenty nine ten, they
(01:06:33):
undid a previous Obama era expansion ofthe two thousand and seven light bulb rule.
I'm not gonna get into the politics. Whatever I do, I agree,
do I disagree? Listen, amI gonna be paying more for a
light bulb? I'm gonna be madif I am. But then again,
they last longer than the the LEDslast longer than the old fashioned ones.
What's next, glad you asked Tompacked fluorescent light bulbs? Oh yeah,
(01:06:58):
yeah, don't worry. We gotto twenty twenty for for that. So
anyway, that's earth shattering news ifif you actually need that, when we're
earth shattering news. This is alsowhat I messed. I leave the country
when Twitter as we know it asTwitter was very active and I was tweeting.
I come back and Twitter no longerexist. It is now called X.
(01:07:21):
Whether you hear about any of thisstuff or whether it matters the social
media site, whatever you call it, you better call it X or ten.
Should you follow the Roman numeral numberingsystem, it works the same way
you could. You can't wait anymore. You've got a what do we call
(01:07:42):
this thing? Zet x EET,I don't know. You can type two
hundred and forty characters and you cantell people which you had to launch and
blah blah blah, blah blah blahthey tried to. I do know this.
It was earlier this week that theheadquarters in San Francisco, and I
remember it's down near the whar ifI was in San Francisco in March and
I was running on the wharf andI saw the Twitter headquarters and I was
pretty cool. So Elon Musk, who bought it for a sweet forty four
(01:08:04):
billion dollars, how that work outfor you, buddy? They removed the
Twitter sign and they put up abig X sign. It was flashing and
a few days later the police stoppedhim and they made them stop because people
were complaining about the flashing. Isit called X? Well, Elon Musk
(01:08:26):
who owns it, he likes theletter X. That was what he PayPal,
actually what he created. It startedout is I think X pay or
something like that. X is thefuture of an unlimited interactivity audio video messaging
aim it. That's a quote unquotefrom from him. Headquartered in San Francisco.
But I'm xing, but are youthreading? And I'm not gonna get
(01:08:47):
to it. One of the reasons, man, why X Gods that takes
them getting used to I did Ihave I zeed, have I xed anything
I did? I don't think I'veuploaded it. He maybe want their tooth
since I've come back. But friendsis kind of the hot new thing,
and that's from the Facebook company. It's called Meadow. What do you like?
Take a little quick poll? Doyou want to call? Give me
(01:09:10):
your if you want, Maybe I'llpick up the phone. Maybe I'll put
it on an air. Maybe youcan give a give away your handle so
you can get some more followers.Do you want to follow me? High
tech? Dex and hi g hT e h T e x A N
tell you what you want to giveaway something? All right, before we
get out of here. I happenedto be not long ago at Benny Hannah.
When was the last time you've beento Benny Hannah? Man? It
(01:09:31):
was pretty cool. They opened abrand new one in Conro and I went
up there for the opening. AndI'm telling you, don't sleep on benne
Hanna. It is some great Japanesefood. Very started in nineteen sixty four.
Rocky Aoki started the first bene Hannain New York. There's seventy of
them all over the US. They'rein South America. Did not see one
in Asia though didn't see one inSault five locations here. There's one in
(01:09:55):
Highland Village on one on West Timer, there's one in city center downtown Houston,
and in Conro. There's also onein Sugarland two. So maybe there's
there's actually six of them. I'vemet the president Tom Baldwin could do.
They're based out of Florida right now. And guess what they gave me a
gift card to give away one hundredand fifty dollars of Benny Hannah. Are
(01:10:17):
you kid me? You know whatthat's gonna feed? Man? I can't
wait for that. You trained ofsmoking volcano. Chop chop chop chop bop
Caller number nine. You're gonna winat one hundred fifty one five zero gift
card to Binny Hannah. How aboutthat? Seven one three two one two

not giving away any at my Samsungphone. You're gonna have to wait a
week for that, all right. If you get a busy signal that means
it is Ova. But anyway,I'd love to hear from you. Congrats
on the winner for the Bennie Hannahgift card. Coming up, final segment
of this week's hight Tech textra Show. Congratulation one to Benny Hanna. You
(01:11:01):
know a gift card calla and you'regonna tell me my ear we won that
hunt. Tell you what, onehundred fifty dollars goes a long way?
If Benny Hanna, gosh, theyhey, I know we have a lot
of Conro listeners that just opened aKnife forty five about a month ago.
That's their fifth or sixth location overhere. Julie, Julie. Where does
Julia live? Julie lives, uh, downtown Houston. Congratulations, Julie.
(01:11:26):

(01:11:46):

we'll do that again next week. And if you follow me on one of
my social media websites, I amgoing to be giving away more of these
gift cards. I'm just I'm agiver, not a taker. I'm a
lover and a fighter. I'm aschfitzer. It's a hundred whatever degrees right
now. This portion of the show, the final portion of the show,
US Coins and Jewelry on Katie Freeway. I tend right near Boss Kenny and
(01:12:11):
Matt Duncan, great guys who runit. What a team they I talk
about all the time because I goin and I'd love looking at watches.
They got rolexes and rolexes. Man, I'm telling you what, if you
have rolexes, the value continues togo up. If you want to sell
your rolex would you please start justbring it in, walk it into US
Coins and Jewelry and actually bring inyour coins too, especially if you collect
coins, because they pay you rightthere on the spot. Tons of security,
(01:12:35):
I mean, they say so manyof the things also for sale over
there. A lot of Texas meantthe State of Texas member Billiard Flags and
everything. But I love looking atthe watches. When I was in Seoul
last week, I didn't walk itup and down the streets. It's very
safe streets. But you know therewas these markets, these Korean markets,
and you know, hey, buddand just didn't a watch. And I'm
(01:12:57):
like, oh no, you're notgonna I like, why, Yank?
I want to if I'm getting somereels, I'm gonna get some reels.
And I I know US Coins andJulie they got the real stuff. And
so before you buy a nice pieceof jewelry, why don't you go to
US Coins and Jewelry. They areopen today on Saturday. They're They're open
every day except Sunday, just likeChick fil A. And you tell him
(01:13:17):
you heard it on Garfield Show, would you please and ask for Kenny,
ask for mad as for Will. It's a great family owned business that their
dads starting and the dad still worksthere too. It is massive. So
it's Ken Katie Freeway just near VossUS Coins and Jewelry. I love.
I love going in. Man peoplethey bringing a suitcase and wheels of coins,
coin collections. Oh I got abuffalo nickel and all of a sudden.
(01:13:40):
It's man, I loved, lovedall this stuff. One of the
top ones in the country, andI'm absolutely serious about that. So I
one of the the things is Icontinue by travel log of what did Michael
see when he was in Asia.I saw when I'm walking around Soul a
few things that caught my eye.Almost every single person had a Samsung phone.
(01:14:04):
I did not see a lot ofiPhones. Makes sense. The world
headquarters of Samsung is right there, and Soul, South Korea manufacturer. They
got everything from TV's I'm walking outsideand I see Samsung air conditioner. Samsung
makes so many stuff, but it'sfunny, I didn't see a lot of
iPhones. I'm taking a tour ofthe Samsung campus, thirty eight thousand employees.
(01:14:29):
I mean, it's it's the sizeof a college campus. And I'm
talking to the tour guide who worksthere, and I'm like, if can
you have an iPhone? Are theybanned here? And he said, no,
they're not banned, but it's justit's Samsung. And I understand because
when I worked for Microsoft. Iworked for Microsoft in the late nineties and
we got to test, beta, test, download all the software before it
(01:14:53):
was released. In the public anda lot of it was buggy, but
they wanted us to try it.And there was just kind of a funny
inside term that I used this day. Microsoft wanted us to eat our own
dog food. Eat our own dogfood. We want to use what we
make and see if it works.Whatever company work for, you should eat
your own dog food. You know. Sorry for the play on words for
(01:15:17):
Soul Korea, but you know whatI'm talking about. But anyway, most
everybody had a Samsung FUM And theother thing, I'm looking at the cars.
There were so many Kias and Genesisand Hyundai cars. It wasn't even
funny. Yeah, I saw someMercedes, and I saw Lexi, I
saw a few other things. ButKia, Genesis, oh, based in
(01:15:38):
Soul Korea. Man, they justwhy not? And they're great cars too.
I mentioned this because I do talka lot about cars. I do
get to drive a lot of carsand review cars. Over the past week
or two, I've been in somereally really cool ones. This week,
I happened to be in an AlphaRomeo. It's okay, it's good,
(01:15:59):
it's you know what I just it'sa hybrid. It's uh, four door,
small kind of sexy. It's niceAlpha Romeo. The brands now by
Stilantis, which also owns Dodge andRam and GEEP two and they're still still
sexy cars that hit handles well. But the funny thing of the Alpha Romeo
that I have, it's almost theexact same car as one that I reviewed
about a month ago, the DodgeHornet. And if you're not familiar,
(01:16:21):
to go listen to some of mypast podcast. I talked about the Dodge
Hornet and this is brand news. The first year that Dodge created the Hornet.
What they did is they took deepwhat are the Alfa Romeos and say
they stripped it down, maybe puta little bit more plastic things in there,
certainly cut the price down. TheDodge Hornet's the exact same as this
(01:16:42):
Alpha Alpha Romeo. My Alfa Romeosnow is hybrid and so it's it's good.
I'm also playing I don't get alot of Toyotas this week. I
also have a Toyota t R DPro pickup truck and I love it number
one because it's it's orange. It'skind of a burnt orange thing. I
mean, you could actually if mayonnaisewas burnt orange I potentially could be empty
(01:17:06):
attempt to eat it. Who amI kidding? No, I'm not.
But anyway, it's a nice color. It's a TRD Pro, It's got
a lot of pickup. I'll giveyou the the update on that because I
just got that about a day dayor two ago, because Thursdays or the
day I get it, I didhave a really fun time. And the
new Chevy Silverado fifteen hundred, itwas a buffalo addition. It was an
(01:17:27):
upgraded buffalo. Sorry, not abuffalo, was a bison. Somebody please
explain to me in two minutes withthe difference between a buffalo and a bison
are. But it was ZR twoBison addition. So it had to specific
front, rear bumpers and skid platesand different wheels, different branded floor liners.
It's a it's a package that addsabout eleven thousand dollars to it.
But the Chevy Silverado fifteen hundred crewthe Bison ZR two addition. It is
(01:17:50):
powerful, it's fast. It wasabout eighty five thousand dollars. What I
do is I do a separate podcastfor this, and if you do,
go to Spotify or Apple or Googleand look for iHeart Vehicles. Pretty funny,
huh. Look for iHeart Vehicles, and you can hear each week I
do at least one, if nottwo, different podcasts talking about the different
(01:18:11):
cars and the different trucks that Idid have. But other than that,
that's what I do. I doconsumer lifestyle. I'm not going to tell
you fix computers, and I don'teven talk about computers a lot. I
will talk about tablets again. I'vebeen playing with that Samsung S nine tablet
that came out. It's about twelvehundred dollars. All the tablets from Samsung
now they have amaled screens, whichmeans they are crisp, they are bright,
it is thin, comes with alittle stylus so you can, you
(01:18:34):
know, write on the thing.I like the fact that's got a little
notch in the back. For thefirst time that a stylus will actually fit.
So it's great for drawing and signingthings if you're working, maybe taking
notes for school. Next week I'lldo a little bit more focus in concentration
on back to school because it maybe the last Saturday before you kid go
back to school and go back todorm rooms. And I'll give you some
(01:18:57):
ideas because I know dorm dorms arevery small. Do you need a TV?
Do you need a speaker system?Do you need a stereo? Do
you need a laptop? Do youneed a desktop? A lot of these
things could be all in one.I remember going off to college my first
year, way back in today, way back in the day. I went
to Austin and man, I'm sleppinga jam box, big old TV with
(01:19:18):
the back on it because there wasno such thing as flat screens. Didn't
have a computer because there was nosuch thing. I had a ton of
blue books, a lot of numbertwo pencils, and I actually didn't even
have a cell phone. They weren'teven invented yet, at least mass to
the public. I had a callingcard where I used to call my parents
on Sunday going, hey, couldyou go to the bank and put money
in my account? Man, havethings change? And no, I'm not
(01:19:38):
going to venmo any of my listenersright now, but I will thank you
for tuning in, and I didgive away a few gift cards listen for
all of us who've been a partof the show. Callum, thank you
for keeping us on the air.I am back my passport is stamped,
and who knows we're all go next. But wherever I go, the radio
show goes with me. Check itout high Tech text and everything you want
to see. Hi g ht ecte x a m high Tech Texi dot
(01:19:59):
com. My name is Michael Garfield. Right now I'm getting outside to go
Schwitz because my show is OVI
