Speaker 2 (00:06):
Michael Garfield.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Michael Garfield's joining.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
In the high tech Texan.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Michael Garfield is here with a high tech Texan. It
to make life.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Easier new technology. So Michael Garfield has something you might like. Ian,
Michael Garfield is your high tech Texan. Three decades helping
you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the
(00:37):
iHeartRadio Act. Now your high tech Texan. Michael Garfield.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I haven't said this in a while, my friends, buddy,
you are listening live, well, it'll be clausely live it
me Michael Garfield, the high tech Texan, remotely behind the microphone,
because this, to me is the greatest Saturday in the fall.
It is always the second Saturday in October. You know it,
(01:08):
you circle it. It is the Texas OU game. And
I have breaking news. I absolutely have breaking news that
it is. It's shocking. For the first time in twenty
five to thirty years, I am not at the Texas
OU game. Dun dunk, dun. Too much to do, too
(01:30):
much going on. Had a commitment to broadcast this show
live from Patterson Park in Houston, Texas, and I would
love people to come up here and say hi, because
you are listening plausibly live it is it twenty two
oh five Patterson Street in Houston. So I tend inside
(01:52):
the loop just near Shepherd. But if you get off
at Shepherd, it'll say Shepherd Patterson go north just I
mean you could Stone's Throw just north of it ten.
It is this beautiful three story treehouse looking domicile with
forty plus TVs. The great Lonnie Schiller, restaurateur to the
stars here in Houston, created he runs this. He's here
(02:14):
running around. Everybody's wearing their burn orange. And I know kickoff.
Kickoff normally happens at eleven in the morning traditionally, but
since horns are in the SEC and I guess OU
is too, then now move it to the SEC game
of the week kickoff at two thirty pm. You can't
get here early enough. If you're a Texas fan, wear
(02:35):
you're burn orange. If you're a OU fan, don't talk
to me. We'd love to have you to come out
for the next two hours. I also brought snacks. Not
only I'm gonna tell you about a beer special that
you're gonna love this for, but anyway, I brought because
I'm a nice guy. I brought breakfast tacas. Well number one,
they don't serve food here yet, they have a food
truck or two out front, so I figured, you know
what I'm bringing. I'm bringing breakfast takas. Gotta thank the
(02:58):
brand new just open solz cosid de Tacos. Long time.
Since nineteen eighty four, they have been in Fort beIN Texas,
southwest side Stafford, right near Dullas High School. They just
open another location. It is in Richmond, Texas one one
one three to one Harlem Road. I was out there
(03:20):
for the grand opening on Thursday. Uh, they are listen.
They serve breakfast tacos all day. But I brought just
a whole slew of great things while supplies last. I
want you to come on. Hurry up, man, what are
you waiting for. I'm at Patterson Park. I brought in
Sali's Tacos. If you're listening on the west side, why
don't you go visit them? Today's I guess this week
is their official official grand opening, but they do it right.
(03:42):
Congratulations to Mike. To Eric part of the family. It
was his grandmother who started Sali's Tacos and they are good.
So I have those and Uh, listen, let's get into
the heart of things. Okay, Yes, I could talk about
football and have some fun and blah blah blah. What
we're gonna talk about today? What did you buy on
AM on Prime Day? Anything this past Tuesday and Wednesday?
(04:04):
This was the final Amazon Prime Day of the year.
Did you get some good deals? We'd love to hear
from you. Interact the radio show. If you don't show up,
you can call and be a part of it. Three
four six twenty nine Texan three four six two nine
t e x A. N. Callum will back in the studio.
(04:24):
They're gonna patch you through. Let's see if we can
talk through it. I will talk about that. Whatever questions
you may have. I got a review of a lot
of questions about the security webcams. There's one I really
been playing with. I like Standby. I will tell you
it's easy. It's Wi Fi. Easy to install its Wi Fi.
It's actually they just partner with best Buy. I some
(04:45):
parts of the state. You can walk it to the
best Buy. I'm gonna tell you how you get this device.
I was also planned. I'm getting a lot of information
about generators too. Don't forget in Texas believe it or not.
As we hear are almost in mid October, as the
temperature is still you know, toasty, it's still hurricane season
(05:06):
Hurricane seas. Hurricane season does not end until the end
of November. I mean it goes through Thanksgiving, and you
never know what's gonna happen. Generators are one thing if
you're in the if you're in the Gulf Coast. My
list is in the Gulf Coast. My longtime Houston radio
you know Flagship KPRC nine to fifty am. The signal
goes down to Galveston. A lot of people have their
(05:28):
whole home generators, all right. It takes months to install,
to order, you got to gas, natural gas and everything.
There are battery generators that work to some extent just
as well. I was playing with one or two the
other day. I was. I brought them onto Fox twenty
six here in Houston. You'll see that spot running pretty
(05:50):
much the rest of our late October and early November,
where I was talking about generators for your home that
automatically kick in. But they're battery charge, which means you
can bring them inside. You can't bring regular generators with
the gas and you know you put them. You can't
do that with with You got to keep those outside.
This is the ones that aren't running inside. This is
(06:11):
the ones that still can run your refrigerator, your water heater,
your water pump, your microwave, your light, a lot of things.
And it's it's movable, and it's portable day and the
fact is it's you could snap. You can get these things.
I was playing with one a few from Eco Flow.
So if you've got questioned about these, I'll explain a
little bit more how they work. But you know, listen,
(06:31):
we can go is. They're great for camping and the
great for it, but back up generators for home. If
you've ever lived through a power outage, be it the
big freeze that we had a few years ago, remember that,
be it hurricanes. And I've you know, in Houston thirty
plus years, I've I've been through a few hurricanes and
a few power outagiest has sometimes lasted four or five
(06:53):
six days. Not fun, all right. I certainly don't feel
like spending twenty five thirty forty thousand dollars on a
whole home general that you have to wait months for.
I'm more than happy to spend a few thousand dollars
and have this thing installed in either seven days or actually,
you know, get one that I can just move around
the house. And so is some of the things that
we are going to yap about. You know the phone number.
(07:14):
We will talk to you there. I will tell you
where I was this past week and got to see
before I saw a product. If you're a gamer, parents,
if you're you have kids and they play games, all right,
bring them to the radio here in about twenty minutes.
I'm gonna tell you. Here's the funny thing is I
am under embargo. I cannot review what I saw. I
(07:36):
can tell you what I saw. I'll tell you about
twenty minutes. But I got to see it, play with it,
and next Wednesday it officially comes out. But I will
tell you what it is. If you don't go to
my Instagram and check it out at high Tech Texan.
It was pretty cool. So I got that. I'll tell
you where I'll be next week and you talk about
one of the coolest things I get to do. Oh
you're gonna love this. Oh my goodness. If you're a
(07:58):
frequent flyer and you're sick the slow Wi Fi, I
got something cool that I want to be doing next week.
You're gonna love it. So this is this is what
I do one more time. I got a special for
you right now before we get out of here for
the break. You're gonna love this. I will buy you
your first beer if you're above twenty one and you
want a beer while supplies last. If you come right
(08:19):
now between now and the end of the show, Patterson Park,
that's where we're broadcasting from. I ten at Patterson. We
got TV's on. We got the first games playing right now.
We got the Texas Longhorns and No. U Sinners playing
at two three. If you come up to me during
your commercial break, I'm right here. You can't miss me.
I'll say, I will take pictures. I want you to
say these words. You get a free beer. Heeter guard Deer.
(08:42):
You remember that Heater guard Deer. And if you could
tell me what record he holds in this famous one
hundred plus year Texas Oklahoma game, you may get a
second beer. Just say Peter gard Deer before one o'clock
PM Central time. When I'm here. You're gonna get a
free beer, all right, the last trick right there? Lots
(09:02):
going on, Do you not go anywhere. We're having a
great time here the second week or Saturday from the
I Tech Text and Show. Michael Garfield is my name
and hooked me hawns open bone lines. We are Oh
my goodness, you're kidding me. Here is a long time listener.
(09:23):
I haven't heard from this guy. The eye Doctor to
the Stars, Doctor Allen Panzer. What are you working for
on a weekend?
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Man?
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Always correcting people's up vision? Aren't you?
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Well? We come in when we have to come in?
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Michael? What's new in you world? Doc? I haven't talked
to you a while.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Well, just this week a new drop was introduced, viz Vizz.
These drops will take people who need bifocals and decrease
or eliminate their need for bifocals. It's primarily for people
who have good distance vision because what it does strict
the pupil and so they and see up close. And
(10:02):
the people I've done it on have just been amazed,
and I've been amazed. The company says it takes thirty
minutes to an hour to work, but it's been taking
about ten minutes to work, so they put this drop
in when they don't want to wear glasses to read
and because that is pretty darn amazing.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
So this is a this is an eye drop it.
Tell me again, what's the name of this thing? This
is the Z the eyes Z and it's an eye
drop in. And by the way, people don't know this
is the the eye Doctor to the stars. His name
is doctor Allan Pans. He's my eye doc. He's in
the bill area. But so is this in LOUA tell me? So,
I love the technology of this thing because I love
(10:43):
how you you're always on the cutting edge.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
The glasses in your pocket all the time to see
to read right, and you didn't wear anything else. Okay,
And you said, I hate these glasses because they're all
over the house. I got ten pairs and I don't
know I lost five of them. Okay. So you put
this drop in in the morning and within ten to
fifteen minutes you can see up close and it does
(11:06):
not damage your distance vision, and you get about ten
hours of close up vision. Now does that mean that
if you know it's midnight you suddenly can't read the check? Well,
I guess that's possible. But you put it in when
you want it for the eight or ten hours that
it gives you close up vision, and the way it
does it is by constricting your pupil. Now, there have
(11:27):
been three or two or three other drops that have
come on the market the same thing, but distance. This
particular one maintains your distance vision while improving your near vision,
which is I mean, I've been at this for a
while and everybody who has wanted this but we didn't
have it. So they all say, Oh, I gotta wear
(11:48):
my eyepiples, Oh I gotta wear readers, Oh I gotta
put these, I gotta have my computer ones. No, this
is kind of an eye drop and it allows you
to see up close.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
End.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
It's the most exciting thing I've seen in maybe ten
fifteen years. I guess I'd say.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
That's a lot because listen, I mean, you call into
my shoe I lover for ten fifteen years, and you're
always spending hundreds and hundreds of thousands on the latest
and greatest technology machines. And the fact is now you
can put an eye drop in a thing. Is this
something that you as a doctor has to do or
do we get it through you.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Can I do it at home daily or basically basically,
these kind of drops come from specialty pharmacies so you
come in, we check your eyes. We say, you know,
you have a little bit of distance or not much
distance prescription and you say, but I can't anything up
close because I'm over forty. And so we put a
(12:42):
drop in your eye and lets you see what it's like.
You say, Wow, that's phenomenal or that's not phenomenal, and
then we prescribe it and it delivered to you from
the compounding pharmacy. It's in individual little vials. You put
one drop in each eye, you wait two minutes, you
put one drop in any.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
And you go on about your way and turned out.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
I got to tell you, you know, it is a
technology show, but this is the coolest technology that I've
I think that I've ever seen the things for diagnosing,
But what if people really want people really want something
that changes their life. And that's what Lasix did in
Ark and all that stuff. But that was surgery that
(13:24):
was not reversible. Once you did it, you did it.
But in the case of this, you can choose to
use the drop or not choose to use the drop.
You can use it twice a week because it's a weekend.
You can use it every single day if you you
know prefer not to wear glasses. Again, it is not
the same as lasix. It is not going to correct
your distance vision. It is only to correct your near
(13:46):
vision in.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
A temporary situation. It's it's amazing you see, folks, this
is what you learned here. It's not just things that
beep and buzz. It's it's medical, and in this case
specifically I from the King of the I doctors himself.
That's pretty called viz v I. Z's see, I may
have to be a guinea pig man. I mean, I'm
pretty I got pretty good vision, but uh, you know,
maybe it'll help me even better.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
You had, well you had that little thing implanted.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
In your eye, right, yeah, I do, yeah, SuperM.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
So this would constrict your pupil to where you might
see through that little thing better.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
I'll get that unbelievable doctor almel I love it. He
If people want to get a hold of you, why not.
I'll give you some free love. What's the f phone number?
How can they get hold of.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Seven three six six four four seven six zero. We're
at Beach and six ten Cross Street from Ireland.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Hans are p A and Z E E R. I've
used him forever the eye doctor to the stars. Glad
you had nothing else to do, then to listen to
me on the weekend. You're the best.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Make fact listen. Listen to this guy. See he knew
the assignment. If he wants to call in, you can.
This is it's an interactive radio show people, and so
all you need to do pick up the phone three
four six two nine texts and three four six two
nine text And as we're looking at the standing in
front of the doors over here at Patterson Park, people
are starting to file and I see some burn orange.
(15:01):
I know the game doesn't start for just a little bit.
Do they know the secret code word to have me
buy them their first beer? If you're just listening, we
are here at Patterson Park. I tend at Patterson Street,
not far from Shepherd. Just look up Patterson Park. You
could do that. I'm Google Maps now it's this is
Patterson Park. It is a beautiful and it's it's it's
(15:21):
a three story indoor outdoors. It's like a treehouse. Hey
what forty plus TVs and and they're going to show
absolutely the game of the well what we hope is
the game of the year. The Texas o you game
coming up between now and the end of this plausibly
live show until one pm Central. If you were in
the Houston area, come up to me, not when I'm
(15:43):
on the radio, and i want you to say the
words Peter guard Deer, Heeter guard Deer, and I'm gonna
buy you your first beer should you be of age?
Speaker 3 (15:52):
All right?
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Quantities maybe limited. I'm not even sure. Peter Gardier. If
you don't know who Peter Gardi is, google him extra
his points if you tell me what record he holds
in the Texas OU game, which has been held well
over one hundred times. Michael Garfield, It's called the high
Tech decks and show people, Man, it doesn't matter what
(16:15):
I'm talking about. I'm talking about football, I'm talking about
breakfast tacos, I'm talking about beer. And apparently we have
colors talking about eye drops, which is fine. And if
you're not used to calling it listening to my show
number one where you ben it's only been around for
twenty three years. I talk technology. I never have never
(16:37):
been the guy who's going to tell you how to
fix your computer. That is the un sexiest radio. I mean,
some like, hey man, my mother board broken, Okay, so good.
I'm gonna take twenty minutes to tell you one person
how to fix your freaking motherboard. And I've got hundreds
of thousands of people's across country listening to me on
iHeart Radio. Not gonna happen. I am gonna tell you
product recommendations. I am going to tell you more powerful laptops, desktops.
(16:58):
I'm gonna tell you about cars. I do review cars
and trucks. Matter of fact, sitting right outside of Patterson Park,
the I don't want to say never before seen in
the state of Texas, because I've seen one. I have
the second one. You know. I get to test drive
vehicles all the time. I have the brand new six
Ford Expedition Trimmor t R E M O R. It's
(17:22):
the Tremor upgrade. And this thing is sex a, it
is pimp. It's a Ford Explorer man the inside. It's
when I review vehicles, and I review vehicles for fifteen years. Man,
every week I get a vehicle. Thousand vehicles are reviewed. Okay,
nobody pays me. I can tell them they're great. I
can tell you they're horrible. If I have to read
(17:43):
an instruction book to tell you to find out how
to turn the radio on or whatever. You're not gonna
figure it out because my job is just to sit
intuitively in a vehicle and change the buttons. I'll tell
you what, in this Ford Expedition, it's amazing. It's gorgeous inside.
Didn't have to whip out excuse me while I whip
this out. Did not have to whip out the instruction book.
(18:04):
But man took me, took me a little orientation of
myself of punching, the lack of buttons, steering wheels, crazy
of the menus and things of how to work it.
But the way that everything is displayed I'll talk a
little bit more about later. Point is if you come
up to Patterson Park, Pature now and we get off
the air, you actually could see the vehicle and take
(18:25):
pictures of it from the outside. All right, don't touch it,
don't do not put your hands on this because it's
not mine. But it is nice. About eighty five thousand dollars.
It's the Ford Expedition trimmor version. So some of the
things that we talk about, And obviously I'm not gonna
have hardly. I'm not gonna have any beer here because
I have to drive home. At some point I am
gonna take a break. Whatever you're watching for the TV
get in love to see up here Patterson Park. We've
(18:47):
got a few more breakfast tacos and you know the
secret word for a beer, and we're gonna have some
fun on the greatest Saturday of the fall, Texas.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Back at it.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Don't know if you can. Can you hear all the
background noise here as we take this show on the
road a little, we take the show. We're not in
Dallas as I normally am the second Saturday of October
for the Texas O You game. Michael Garfield is the name.
Massive Longhorn fan. If dove you have to listen to
my show in two plus decades, Hello O to Dallas.
We're listening right now. Also San Antonio and Houston terrestrially.
(19:22):
Thanks to Brian Erickson the iHeart Media team for put
me up there and all over the big cities across Texas.
Phone number here if you want to call in. We
just heard from one of the longtime covers. You can
give me a shouts. We're not gonna bite. We have
some fun. Three four six twenty nine Texan three four
six two nine Texan. We are at Patterson Park, a
(19:45):
great sports bar, lots of games going on. We got
the beer from cocktails. Is that? Is that a bloody Malanie?
Is that a bloody Mary? That looks good? Bro should
I I may wait, I may wait to this, I
may wait to halfway to happy hour. All right, it's
a lot of fun stuff going on. Still got some
breakfast tacos I brought in from the brand new Saliz
Cosada Tacos. If you're familiar with the one or two
(20:07):
of their locations the O Regional one from nineteen eighty
four out in Stafford Sugarland area on Dulles Avenue. They
just open a brand new one, Grand Parkway ninety nine
right at Harlem Rogue. Grand opening is this weekend, and
so nice folks out there decided to load me up
with a few dozen of these breakfast tacos. I still
think we got a few left, and so come on
(20:28):
over here to Patterson Park. I been getting some holiday
seasons coming up, and not that you really want to.
Does anybody really want to buy or receive a security
webcam for home as a holiday? Yet? I mean, I
take one good. I'm always smart home guy and I'm
always giving smart home not that I'm a smart guy,
(20:49):
but I do talk about smart homes a lot. I
talk about some of the cool, the good products, easy
to install ones, products that will make your home more secure. Yes,
like wireless Wi Fi security, webcams, like video doorbells, alarm systems,
number of different things. We can talk about, thermostats, whatever.
(21:10):
But I've been getting a lot of questions lately about
video cameras. I think video the price of Wi Fi
based video security cameras are coming down. The ones that
are made for outside are getting better. They're getting more waterproof,
they're getting more range, so the Wi Fi signals there,
the batteries are longer, so you don't need to take
(21:31):
them down or charge them or going back and forth.
One of the what's I've been playing with, and I
absolutely it is my favorite. Let's just put it this
way right now. It's from Real Link ore EO l
I NK Real Link and they got a number of
them and a few that I've been playing with. One
is called the Aultice Altas, and that's a Wi Fi
(21:52):
battery camera and it's got a massive battery. Not that
I throw tech stuff at you, but it's got a
twenty thousand mille battery. That's a very big battery, right.
It does a lot of things, great vivid color even
at night and low light. Comes actually with a little
six watt solar panel, so it charges while sitting outside.
(22:13):
Easy to install. Anybody interested in that. That's it's right now.
It's about one hundred and twenty nine dollars. One hundred
and twenty nine dollars. They've got a few more. They've
got the argust rg uspt Ultra. This is one that
you actually can pan and tilt remotely. That's pretty cool
because these you know, a lot of these have apps.
(22:35):
But the fact is this has four K ultra high
death resolution and you look at it remotely pretty much
from anywhere in the world because this camera is mounted
outside with Wi Fi. Right, so now you can take
it's like a remote control. If you want to see
what's happening over here in your backyard, at your pool,
if you want to be zoomed over here to the
right and see if you're I don't know, if maybe
(22:56):
you have a pet running outside, maybe you hear something
and you actually you can talk to the camera too.
Get off my property. It's got a pan it's got
a tilt for full coverage. The Argus PT Ultra. That's
about one hundred and forty nine dollars. There's a lot
of these devices going on. You do not need subscription
fees and if you're really interested today, I do know
and select best buys across this great state of Texas
(23:20):
of ours. They've got them for all my listeners out there.
If you're in Lubbock, if you're in Bemont, Beaumont, home
of my father, Larry Garfield, there's a walk into the
beautiful best by there. Midland, Texas. I've actually never been
to Midland. Heard is nice. A lot of wheel off there, Midland, Texas,
San Antonio, Texas. If you were in this city in
(23:41):
San Antonio, you got my radio show there. Shout out
to WAI Radio if you're looking for these. They just
partnered with those best bies in those cities.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Walk in.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
And say high tech tax and said, hey man, there's
a cool real link ALTI there's a real link. Argus
pet there's a real link, go Pet Ultra. There you
go our E O L I NK. So that's what
I've been talking about, and I do get I got
some emails this week and I think I think someone's
on the phone. I'm right now, Is that right, Calum?
(24:14):
Someone just somebody just wanted to know the name of
the camera I've been talking about for Yeah, that's it.
That's it. So I'm here for you. I don't know,
maybe I need to talk to those folks. Maybe we'd
give one away or something, but you know what, suck
it up, go buy go buy a few yourself. Well
for the front yard, one for the backyard. That's that's
what we do over here. Michael Garfield. A lot of
people walking around burnt orange here at Patterson Park in Houston.
(24:37):
If you're listening in Dallas, Also, where is is it
the Longhorn Saloon in Dallas? They're having a big Texas
Oh you watch party. My good friend Doug Rice, he's
the president of the Dallas Texas exs uh and they
have yees. It's a Longhorn ice house. It's in Northwest
Highway and that's happening. Should you be listening this weekendto
San Antonio. I don't know where your watch party here is.
(25:01):
But the watch party that I am a part of.
Lonnie Schiller Longhorn like me, he's the proprietor here at
Patterson Park two two o five Patterson, just north of
By ten, near Shepherd and where you're burn Orange people.
We'll be on the air here for obviously we'll sign
off at one pm Central if you're listening live. I
know the show's repeated a few times, but and then
(25:23):
the kickoff is at two thirty. Not used to the
Ou game, as we call it, the Texou game being
kicked off at two thirty. I mean pretty much all
my life, it's been at eleven in the morning. That's
just what it was. But welcome to the SEC people.
We want eyeballs get I gotta get that afternoon game
and hopefully my orangs are going to bring it, but
we actually do need to bring it. I was in
(25:43):
Florida last week. Did an'ybody see my post, went to
the Swamp for the first time, did not walk out
with a win. You know what, I just you know,
I have never been to Gainesville. I'm now sick of
every single Tom Petty song because that's all they play
because Tom Petty's from Gainesville and the Swamp. It's it's
(26:05):
it's it's a piece of crap. It's nasty stadium old
stadium hard to get around. You know, I'm going up
and down trying to find my seats. I just don't
like it. Didn't love campus to see this is what
a real review looks like. I don't hate Florida. Uh right,
if you if you did see my pictures, I ran Toto,
Tim Tebow heisman from Florida. Nice enough. Guy took a
(26:26):
picture with me. Gators, Gator chop do all you want.
I don't care. I just I just didn't love the campus,
and I did not love the uh the stadium, and
I did not love the way the horns played. Well,
we gotta get back and should we talk? Decord? Are
we out of breakfast tacos?
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
You know the phone number over here? Also send me
a send me an email. You can always hit me
a Michael at high tech techsent dot com. I also do.
I also do movie reviews. I go to a movie theater.
I get invited to movie screenings all year round. Over
the past several years, maybe since COVID, if I've walked
into a movie theater in average of three times a year,
(27:04):
I'm lying, don't watch like that. When we come back,
I will give you one of was this the first
movie I've seen in a theater. Oh no, I've seen
one or two. No, I saw Superman, I saw I
sell few more. I'm gonna give you my review if
you haven't heard yet of the new movie they just
came out called The Smashing Machine, starring Joyne the Rock
Johnson and Emily Blunt. You know what I don't. I
(27:28):
don't even know if I want to give you a review.
It wasn't that good. But anyway, I'm just telling you,
hang on. We just have too much fun over here.
It is Garth high Tech Dexsit and standby, final segment
of our number one of the high tech Techs and
the show having a great time. Dude, you know they're doing.
It's fun doing Michael garthil by the way, is the name.
(27:49):
It is Texas O you weekend. That's really what we
care about. The second Saturday in October. Normally I am
in the Cotton bowlt Nope from game watch in Houston.
If you're in Houston, come watch the game today. Patterson
Park two to five Patterson Road I Ken Kitty Freeway,
just near Shepherd. Use your little Google maps and look
(28:11):
at Patterson Park. I'm here for the next hour at
least buying your first beer. If you say the magic words,
I'll say you one more time. Come up to me.
If you're twenty one years or older. While supply last
I'm gonna buy your first beer, I want you to
say Peter Gardier. It's like the third time I've said
it this hour. And I also gave you a little
trivia question, why Peter Gardier and who is Peter Gardier?
(28:32):
What does Peter Gardier have to do with the Texas
OU game? Well, if you're not a true, true Longhorn fan,
the reason why Peter Gardier is the magic word to
win a little something today from my plausibly live remote
broadcast here at Patterson Park. Peter Gardier was a quarterback
at the University of Texas late eighties and early nineties.
(28:54):
In the one hundred plus year game between Texas and Oklahoma,
Peter Garder is the only quarterback of either team to
win four straight games. That is right, four straight games
Texas beat Ou late eighties and nineties, and that quarterback
Peter Gardier is the man. Peter. If you're listening, I
(29:15):
don't know where you're at. Bro. The entire tab is
on me. If you come join me here, Come on,
but if not, while supplies last until one o'clock a
while I'm still here, come up and say, Peter Gardier
and let's see if I can get your beer at
Patterson Park. Thanks again to Saliz Kasada Tacos. They just
opened their new location in Richmond, Texas, Harlem Road at
(29:37):
ninety nine Grand Parkway. They loaded me up with some
brecky tacos that are so good. And I don't know.
We may have a one or two or left, but
that's not the point. So anway, where was I I
used to do? Did I do it? No? Yeah, I
used to have a little little sounder. Callum is my
producer here, he's back in the studio. We need another
(29:57):
sounder of where in the world is Garth? Where in
the world does garf? I've been doing a little bit
more traveling lately. I hopped up earlier this week to
New York City. And you know us here in Texas
what we say when we hear New York City, get
a rope And if you don't know what I'm talking about,
(30:18):
you are not of age. But don't worry about it.
What's to New York City? And I can't tell I
am under embargo until next Wednesday, so I'm gonna dance
around this topic. I was invited to a press conference
and got to see and touch and feel and play
with man, this does stand by It sounds like it's
(30:39):
going somewhere off course, but it's not. I got to touch, feel,
and see the soon to be released r OG, Xbox
al I and LIX. Now, if you're not a gamer,
you have no clue what I'm talking about ROG Republic
of Gamers. It's kind of a subsidiar area of Acus computers.
(31:03):
I'm a big Ace's computer fan. I have a Sus laptops,
a lot of that stuff. The SEUs in R. Let's
put it this way. ROG has had a handheld video game,
really high powered Windows base that does a lot of things.
They've had a few versions over the years. Well, they
just got together with Microsoft, famous for the Xbox gaming system,
(31:28):
and they're getting ready to release. That is true, the
combined r OG Xbox ally A, l l Y and
the ally X. The difference is a little bit more
storage and in a little bit more process over here.
It runs on This is not a secret. This is
why I said. It runs on Windows eleven it could
play PC games from third parties. It because it's Xbox.
(31:52):
If you play Xbox have the Microsoft Xbox account, you're
gonna be able to play on there. I cannot tell
you more. I can't tell you only what it looks like.
Listen if you want to go play around online or whatever.
I can't give ever reviews. I got one in my hand. Well,
actually I don't have it in my hands because I'm
technically not allowed to take it out of the house.
I am not kidding you. I saw it. This is
(32:12):
what happens when in media, you go somewhere, you sign
an embargo. It's not till next Wednesday, So next week
I can actually talk about it.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
On my show.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
But I will say this. I don't know it was
just name. I'm looking online. I don't know how they could.
I guess the reviewers can go ahead and do it. It
was just named one of the best inventions of twenty
twenty five by Time magazine. I'm not kidding. I'm just
looking this. This happened like two days ago. I don't
know the writer. The dude from Time magazine may have
been at the press conference sitting next man. I don't
(32:42):
even know. But he is named it one of the
best inventions of twenty twenty five. I can't even tell
you how much it is. The rumors are online, but
if you're a video gamer, handheld video gamer, I think
you may like it. I have to see this. This
is how I'm tiptoeing around the tulips right over here.
It's the row Rog. Xbox ally a sus Microsoft got together,
(33:08):
got on a trend, and that is coming out on
next Wednesday. I believe the the fourteenth. I think it's good.
It should be pretty popular. I I'm not the biggest gamer.
Longtime listeners know. I have three boys. Actually they're men
right now. They're three men. Those when they were little kids.
That's how online been doing this show. They were my
(33:29):
video game reviewers, three boys, one of them and this
is how I divided it up. One of them and
they chose. Well, of course, the oldest one got his choice.
One of them was an Xboxer, one of them was
a Nintendo fan, and then one of them was Sony PlayStation.
Because each of those manufacturers used to send me the
(33:51):
consoles and the games for review. Well, you know, I'm
building my brand. I have so much to do. I'm
trying to be the dad. I'm doing those stuff I
and and I'm not the biggest video gamer. I mean,
yeah Gallaghan and missus Backman Baby bringing on. But the
kids may they're all over it. So each of the
kids would do their own cute little kid reviews of
each of the systems, and so there now that they grow.
(34:11):
I my middle son who's now twenty eight, he still
plays PC video games, so I am probably gonna hand
over this rog Xbox I like to him for his
full review because he still likes this stuff. And so
whether you're a video gamer or not, that may be
a nice something too and to your holiday list. And
so we got that. Now next hour, here's what we
(34:33):
got going. It will be our number two. Things are
gonna get it roudier here at Patterson Park because there
are a lot of college football games being showed in
the forty screens. Probably gonna be buying a few more
beers because you now know the secret code to come
up and say hi. We're at twenty two oh five
Patterson Patterson Park, three levels, gorgeous, it's like a tree house,
forty TVs. It's just fun. It is good on a
(34:54):
big Texas oh U weekend. I will take your phone
calls number three four six twenty nine Texan. We'll give
you a few car reviews, including this absolute crazy, awesome
twenty twenty six version of the Ford Expedition Tremor t
R E m O R Trimmer is the upgraded model,
(35:16):
the badge, if you will, kind of the outdoor rugged
that a lot of the f one and fifties half
Now they put this in a Ford Expedition or Ford
Explorer too. That's it's pretty cool. All right, Ready to
take a break, give us a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Don't go anywhere, and.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
I do really hope to see you here. Come over,
say hi, I take some pics and we'll get to
see deers over here in Pat's see park horns up.
My name is Garth. We'll see you on the other
side of this.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Hi.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
Tex is Michael Garfer, Michael Garfield, Michael Garfields joining us. Yeah,
the high tech Texan. Michael Garvil is here with a
high tech Texan. It was to make life.
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Easier your technology.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
So Michael Garfield has something you might like.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Michael Garfield is your high tech Texan, three decades helping
you make magic with your gadgets. Occurred worldwide on the
iHeartRadio after Now your high Tech Texan Michael Garfield.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Normally, at this time of my show, I always open
the second hour with the same friend. It's halfway to
halfy hour. People would not be more true than right
now because it is happy hour. We ain't halfway. Happy
Hour started an hour ago because we are doing the
(36:48):
show a lot of studio. What is going on Texas
ou weekend? We are at Patterson Park in Houston, the
official UT Watch party. There's Burnt Orange happening, the kick
off happening at two thirty on Saturday. If you're listening
live in Houston on k EERC nine fifty a m.
For one of my mini stations across Texas, come on
(37:10):
down twenty two five Patterson. It's at I ten Katie Freeway,
inside the loop, right near Shepherd. Take the Shepherd Patterson exit.
Just go north right there Stone Throw, three story, beautiful
treehouse looking structure, relatively new, forty plus TVs and the
beer's flowing. There's a food truck out here. You missed
(37:31):
the breakfast tacos last hour from Sali's Tacos. Sucks for you,
but we are having a good time. Halfway to Happy Hour.
My first time in many decades. I am not in
Dallas for the Texas OU game, So come spend it
with May. You could keep me happier. You can console
me depending on how the game goes. Ah. Yes we
(37:51):
do talk about football, and yes we do have open
phone lines for you to call. Ask me questions. Holiday
shopping season coming up. Tell me what you got Amazon?
Did you get the did you get the deal of
the year? Good for you phone number three four six
two nine eight three nine two six It spells three
four six twenty nine Texan. Big shout out to everybody
(38:14):
in Houston area KPRC nine fifty, but also up in
Dallas as you are making your way to the Cotton Bowl,
stuck in traffic Talk Radio eleven ninety and in San
Antonio What's up SA News Radio twelve hundred WOAI. If
you're not in those cities, you're listening on iHeartRadio. Thank
you for downloading that free app. That app did not
(38:35):
exist twenty three years ago when I began this radio show.
It was just terrestrial. But now a lot of people
listening to us on the on that app, and so
we appreciate that. What are we going to talk about
this hour of what's Michael driving. If you do roll
up to Patterson Park here you notice this really interesting
big SUV that you probably haven't seen. It is the
(38:58):
twenty twenty that's me. That's my I test vehicle. The REK.
Don't touch it. There have no fingerprints on this thing,
and ain't mine. The twenty twenty six Ford Explore Trimmer Edition.
It's the Trimmer t R E M O R. It
is big and it's an outdoor. It's a rugged thing,
one of the first few literally in the state of Texas.
It's it's saucy. Okay, look at it that it's got
(39:21):
a little Somebody whoever designed it was a University of
Texas fan. Because there's orange, kind of a burnt oranges
theme all around the vehicle, the hires, the actual the
wheels there, they're beautiful aluminum wheels. There's one of the
spokes is orange and yes, it's supposed to be like
that on every one of the four wheels. The back
(39:43):
where it says Ford or actually Expeditions, the Ford Expedition
it's outlined in orange. I love it. It's it's perfect
and you, Aggie, you'll love it too. I'm I'm sure
you'll will sooners. I don't care what you think is
this is not a day for sooner love. As you
know that, I will tell you what is it about
eighty six thousand dollars. It rides great and they just
(40:03):
came out. When I review cars, I don't do it
for dealerships. I'm not going to tell you a dealership
to go to. I work directly with the manufacturers. It
is not paid. This is pure content, and that means
I could love on a car and I could hate
on a car. So I've been doing it for fifteen years.
If you want to here a lot of my reviews,
which I do each week, you can go to iHeartRadio.
(40:25):
You can go to Spotify and look up high Tech
Texan kind of a podcast, the type of thing for that,
and you can hear I take about seven minutes to
ten minutes to tell you the highs and lows of SUV, CUVS,
eds and everything in between. Speaking of evs, it has
now been two weeks since the federal tax credits have
(40:45):
gone bye bye. The past three or four months, I've
been warning, I said September thirtieth, tax credits be up
to seventy five hundred dollars tax credit on EV's are
going bye bye. If you're going to buy an EV,
get it sale for the past three months have been increasingly.
They went up year over year. Knowing that these tax
(41:05):
incentives we're going to go out of the door, and
they did. So you're on your own. If you want
to buy some of these evs, that's that's up to you.
I've reviewed some of them. And if you have something
that you wanted me to specifically tell you, is this good?
Is this bad? Stay away from it. You know the
phone number you could send me, the email, high tech
textan spell the whole thing out to high T e
(41:28):
h T e x A. And speaking of EV's, I
did see this. They actually maybe getting a little cheaper.
I saw this very interesting news out of the Texas
based company called Tesla. Tesla announced they they're coming out
with more affordable electric cars. They're not actually coming out
with new models, but they're cheaper versions of their current models,
(41:54):
the Model Why and the Model Free. But they are
going to have a more affordable starting price. If you're
looking for evs, and I could dig it, I mean,
I see what's going on. They want to push and
move these cars. But I think eed shoppers are looking
for cheaper options right now. The average new vehicle transaction
(42:17):
price in the US right now is about forty eight
thousand dollars. Okay, so if you can get below that
price point, great. The right now, the Tesla Model Y
standard right now, it starts about forty thousand dollars and
it's it's got some nice little you know features and
everything too. The Model Free standard starts about thirty seven
(42:42):
thousand dollars. So yes, there's a difference in Again, this
is not me endorsing Teslas. I don't endorse Teslas, but
I don't not endorse Teslas. I'm just giving you information.
This This is what I do. But what they're doing
they're ditching some of the things I think I saw.
They're ditching some of the LED strips in favor of
(43:04):
you know, ambient lighting. And then they're they're taking a
few things off now full self driving is going to
be an option or taking things to I mean, I
think this new approach does make a lot of sense
for Tesla. Instead of chasing the luxury into the market,
I think it brings the focus back to what originally
made the brand popular long range, fast charging affordable electric
(43:28):
vehicles that do to somewhat still feel cutting edge. I
think by trimming back on the extras, I think they
created an option that could appeal for I'm gonna call
them first time EV buyers who might really look at
other cheaper rivals. And so there is your I guess
your car, your weekly EVY update of the week. This
is what I you know, doing a very frequent basis.
(43:51):
Here we are going to take a break. When we
come back. I'm gonna go take some pictures of over
here with all these Longhorn fans saying, Hey, Patterson Park,
twenty two oh five Patterson Street, that's where we are
at least on air for the next forty five minutes.
Come home, buye as we celebrate the second Saturday at October,
which is always that Texas Oklahoma prival rate. But to me,
it's always burn Orange. Michael Barker's the high Kink Texas show.
(44:18):
Hold on, Hold on day guy, Okay, I'll be right back.
Speaker 3 (44:21):
I'll take pictures later.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
Like dev we're rocking back.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
On the air.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
I'll see this microphone, where's miel look at me? Hello,
my friends on the radio, listening right now. Sorry about that.
Usually doesn't happen where I'm talking off Mike in the studio,
But where were I mean? We're not in studio right now.
We are celebrating Texas. Oh you watch party at the
official my official watch party in Houston. If you're listening,
happy to be in Houston on Saturday. If you're listening,
(44:45):
plausibly live right now. The kickoff is at two thirty
and we are at Patterson Park. Unbelievable three level indoor outdoor,
gorgeous treehouse looking sports bar, forty plus TVs. Lonnie Schiller
over here, or he is the person who created it, Lonnie,
same guy who did Cafe Annie and all these other
great concepts back in the day, he has now created
(45:07):
this monstrosity of a fun, fun place to watch twenty
two oh five Patterson. If you are wearing burn orange,
you want to come celebrate. I don't know, man, I
don't know what to expect out of the Horns after
going to Florida last week watching that game, But let's celebrate.
The only thing we don't have here is Fletcher scorny dogs.
There are no Fletcher scorny dogs here, but there's a
(45:28):
lot of cocktails and a lot of drink specials, and
so that is what's up. If you feel if you
hear a little horseness in my voice, a little bit
more than usual while well number one, I'm you always
talk a little bit more loud than normal, louder than normal,
with a little bit more energy excitement when you're outside
of the studio because you get jazzed up. And then
(45:48):
during the breaks, normally, you know, I'm just drinking to
mice tea back in the studio, but now you know,
I'm talking tons of people coming up and saying I
and asking questions and you know, taking some picks and
so A little horse also been on an airplane. I
was in New York City earlier this week, New York City,
get a rope. I was up there for a press conference.
I told you why last hour. I'm still in dur embargo,
(46:10):
but I will reveal it more and give you a
review next week. And I am doing something way cool
this coming Tuesday. I'm traveling again for a quick one
day trip. If you are a frequent flyer and you
like do you do just if you fly, do you
(46:33):
enjoy connecting to Wi Fi in the air? Wi Fi
in the air has been around for longer than you think,
and it just really hasn't progressed nearly as fast as
it should have thanks to technology. I'm generally a Southwest
Airlines guy. If you're not an A list preferred member
like me, yep, I did just humble bragger right there.
(46:56):
It's about eight bucks. Not the fastest WiFi. Sometimes it dropped.
Maybe you could send some email, potentially surf, but that's
about it. It's just not the fastest speed well thanks
to a Texas based company owned by Elon Musk called Starlink.
(47:16):
Starlink is partnering with some airlines not others, and they
are putting Starlink devices in airplanes to make high speed
broadband where you potentially could if they allow it, do
video chats and video conferences and stream and send email
on a snap. United Airlines big base in Houston headquarters
(47:44):
in Chicago. They are getting ready to roll out Starlink
Wi Fi in all of their plans this Wednesday the
first regional Some of the regional jets have already have it.
This Wednesday is the first official flight some of their
(48:07):
planes that are equipped with Wi Fi. That's what I'm
doing on Tuesday. Yep, I am hopping up to Chicago,
the headquarters on a special technology journalist's flight, and I
get to be one of the first people again another
humble breade. I get to be one of the first
people ever to test the super speedy Starlink Wi Fi
(48:33):
on United Air Alliance. Jealous. Oh, I am pumped. That
is going to be cool. Really appreciate the folks that
United for actually giving the opportunity to get up there
test it. I'm going to bring up a number of
Generally when I travel, I mean, you know, I bring
a phone, I bring a charger, and I bring maybe
(48:54):
a tablet. Sometimes I bring a laptop. I'm bringing like
every piece of technology gear that I have on this flight,
and it's all. The funny thing is, it's like a
two hour flight. We take off from Chicago, oh hair,
and we circle around for two hours and we land.
But they just do that's it good. It's it's a
plane trip to nowhere, right, So Doway, we're in. They're
just letting us test the uh the super speed Wi Fi.
(49:16):
But I want to test it. So I am bringing
up laptop, tablet, six or seven different phones, watch, I'm
bringing as much as I can. I'm gonna I'm gonna
call I'm gonna see if I could test the video.
I'm gonna record it, and I'm gonna put together like
a piece for some of the TV segments that I do,
and certainly on my Instagram and certainly stuff I'm really
(49:38):
I'm really interested to see how it is. I flew
up to New York last week on a Southwest air
Lines on their typical and I don't want to call
it slow, Let's just say they're current Wi Fi. And
I was doing some speed test. And I'm now going
to compare the speed test next Tuesday on United Airlines.
I like it and better than that. Instead of charging
(50:00):
eight dollars, instead of charging anything, from what I understand United,
it's going to be free from mileage plus for their
frequent Flyer members. Man, we're living in a good time
right now. It is going to be going so next week.
Report back. If you do not follow me already on
social media, and if you're not blocked, you know who
(50:20):
you are. Absolutely h I G H T E C
h T E x A N. I'll be taking some videos.
I'll be shooting some videos from up there and let
you know how the WiFi is, and it's nice. When
this thing rolls out, it's it's it's good. If you've
ever sat on a long plane ride, you know, listen,
if you if you take off from Texas, we're lucky
because if you go anywhere the United States, we're pretty
(50:41):
much we're right in the middle. I mean, you go
to the west, you go to the west coast, you
go to the least coast. You know, maybe it's going
to take you three hours, sometimes three and a half
hours or something. It's right. I mean you go cross country.
I mean you're on a six hour ride from hell
Slope or no Wi Fi. But now this Starlinka, it's
supposed to be really really fast and cool. So I
will update you with that. Maybe if you want to
(51:03):
be one of my test subjects who does a little
zoom video chat, if you know me, or maybe I
don't send me an email Michael at high tech textan
dot com, maybe I will randomly email you and zoom
with you from thirty five thousand feet, which I'm looking
forward to. Nilis to say, did I I promise I
promised last hour that I was going to do this.
(51:26):
Can I I'm going to review a movie right now
for the next minute and a half. Okay. I got
to see the premiere media screening about a week and
a half ago of Dwayne Johnson's new movie called The
Smashing Machine with Emily Blunt. So anybody seen it because
it actually was released I think a week ago or
something like that, or maybe it's this weekend. I liked.
(51:48):
I like Dwayne Johnson. I think Dwayne Johnson is one
of the best former athletes. Hearned doctors. There may not
be a lot of them. I mean, they got john
and you got another football players. Whatever. I love Dwayne Johnson.
You know he was the rock if you will like that.
He's funny, he knows his role, big beefy Burley guy whatever.
(52:10):
Like that Smashing Machine doc. It's a true semi true
story based on a wrestler. He's got a wig. They
kind of cg or aied out all of his tattoos.
It's not a typical rock funny haha, buddy, it's different.
I didn't like it. Nope, not a fan. Emily Blunt.
(52:34):
I like her, wonderful actress. She actually was good played
played his girlfriend. Uh And it did not do well
at the box office. There you go. That is the
Michael Garfield review of the latest movie Smash Machine. Wait
for it to stream. That's what I do, people, I
summarize things. I get you in, I get you out,
and you keep on going. All right, break time. Thirty
(52:55):
more minutes to go before we get out of here,
Patterson Park. Game time kickoff just a few hours, but
a lot of games going on right now. We'll hope
you see. Before we get out of here, we'll be
back with a high tech texting show. Last the thirty
minutes ago in the show, and then it is really
game time, Showtime, Pop Pop Michael Garfield the high Tech
(53:16):
Textan Show, Happy Texas, Oh you weekend. Wherever you are listening,
we are here at the official Houston, Texas Long Home
on Watch Party, Patterson Park. I ten at Patterson Just
Google map it up. It's inside the loop and it
is all drink specials and things are flowing indoor outdoor TVs.
The weather is great. This is hopefully it's gonna be
(53:37):
a good outcome. Give you the phone number here of
the radio show. It is eight three two. No, it's not.
It's three four six twenty nine. Texan three four six
two nine eight three, nine, two six. That is how
you're gonna get a hold of me. Been reviewing a
lot of things, but people have been coming up here
during the break saying, hey, man, did let me show you?
(53:58):
Let me tell you what I got on Amazon on Prime.
Amazon Prime Day was earlier this week, the last one
of the year, last one of the year. Yeah, did
you get anything anything good? Come up and show me.
Would you get show off? No, I'd love to see it.
I didn't get anything. I was traveling most of the time.
I don't. I don't need anything. As much as I'm
the pimp for technology. Gotta go online, man, got I don't.
(54:23):
I don't buy a lot of things online. Maybe I'm
just you know, old school dude kids do. But I'd
rather just walk into a store and try something on
and get it now. Then again, maybe I'm not old school.
I know I'm ade ehd. I just want that thing snappy,
snap snap. So that that is how that works. Michael
(54:44):
at High Tech Texan. That is how you're going to
get to me. Where is I got an email over here?
If somebody was asking about sleep trackers, what's the best thing?
Because they're looking at my watch over here, and this
app i'm smart watches or my jam as you know.
This one I'm wearing right now is from one plus.
I really that's a great comment. One uh one plus
(55:06):
that make phones, that make watches, a number of things.
Oh N E P l U S one plus. I've
got the latest version of one plus watch. I'd like
it because it's big. You can see it. It syncs
with my phone. I get my text I can read emails,
I can do everything. But it's also it could track
your sleep and your health. Yes, it does the steps
(55:26):
and everything, but people are asking, you know, hey, I'm
not sleeping as much, like how can I track my sleep?
You know, years ago you used to have to go
to like a a doctor or something a sleep school
where they wire you up and they monitor your sleep
or something. But you can wear these they're wearables. Right now,
(55:46):
you're potentially wearing maybe a smart watch right now that
can track your sleep. When were you in r E
M stage, you know, rapid eye movement, When did you
fall asleep? How deep was your sleep? Thing? And there's
some that are actually mostly health monitors. One that you
should try and I have not tried it yet, but
(56:07):
it's really a popular one. It's a it's a thing
called Whoop, as in whoop there it is Whoop, and
I think they're on version four point zero right now.
And it's not so much a watch more than a band.
It's like this band you wear on your wrist, and
(56:28):
it really I mean it's got no screens, it's got
no buttons, so it's not a watch. It looks very simple,
but it's got LED's body temperature sensors that give you
some really good insight into your sleep. And shockingly, it
connects to an app that's where you're gonna get your readout,
(56:49):
and it's got like an AI coach built into this thing.
You can ask the AI coach anything that's going to
give you answers on you know, how long did I sleep?
And you know was it good? And what could I
do it to improve it? It is nice. It is
not the most expensive thing they It is a subscription,
(57:11):
I believe. I think it's something like thirty dollars a
month or so, but it's going to give you everything
from your resting heart rate, your recovery, your respiratory rate,
your blood oxygen, your body timpers, your exercise, your slipping performance,
everything about two hundred and forty dollars I think the
last time I saw on Amazon. But it's a band,
that's it. Man, it is not a watch, so that's
(57:31):
that's a sleep tracker too. Then there's those rings. Have
you seen these rings? They're wearable rings. I've actually never
even tried a ring. Samsung was supposed to give me
a ring, they never did scrow them. But I just
rings to me. I mean I like wearing rings. I
don't problem they have, but they pretty much do this
(57:52):
relatively the same thing as a watch, and you can
lose the thing too. So I have not fit bit.
There's a fitbit inexpensive one eighty five bucks or so.
Bit Inspire. Yes, it's still out there, the I N
S P I R E three it's aspired. It's a
good sleep tracker if you want to measure your physical
activity maybe your sleep data. But it's so thin and
(58:13):
so small. This is not one of those bulky devices
you wear on your wrist. This is a very sleep design,
good battery life, gives you about ten days or so.
And it's it's affordable too. They there is a subscription
for some advanced features ten bucks a month, lot cheaper
than that Whoop one, but you don't really need to
(58:33):
use that too. Yes, there are other ones. I mean,
Garman makes a great run. I think Garment makes one
of the best running watches. I mean Garment, which is
originally a GPS and tracking runners. When I started running
thirty years ago, Garman was one of the only ones
with a GPS tracking watch. They're around two hundred and
fifty bucks. Also, they're not cheaps. They do some sleep
sleep tracking too. Wivings I don't talk about Wivings enough.
(58:56):
Whiggings is a it's a hell company, smart health company.
I have a Wvings scale at home. I step on
the scale. Yes, it measures you know how much I weigh,
but also it sends pulses up through my bare feet
when I'm standing on this thing of like what's my
body fat percentage? It sends it to an app it
(59:17):
tells me if I've gained weight loss weight loss, but
if those are the that's one of the things with
things done the Whittings scale. But Whipings also has a
watch too, It's called the Whitvings Scan Watch too. Definitely
not cheap, three hundred and seventy bucks or so, but
it's a very high quality sleep tracker. If you don't
want to pay a subscription, you don't need one for
that thing, which I like, Uh, pretty sleek, very classic looking.
(59:42):
It actually looks like a real watch with a watch
face other than a smart watch. And a lot of
people like that. A lot of people like that. And
that does everything from your aphib your heart rate, your
you know, respiratory rate, and you know things of that nature.
So hey, listen, I have not been not that. I
need to give you my hip hop. I haven't been
sleeping well too late, and I need to start monitoring
(01:00:04):
my sleep. What's going on or I need to take
some sleeping pills or something like that. These are very different.
And while I put you to sleep, let me give
you one more before we get you out of this break.
There's another little sleeping piece of technology gear that I've
had for about have I had it a year right now?
May have had it about a year. There's sleep ear
buds now and now hear me out. I see what
(01:00:25):
I did there? The ones I've been playing with a
company called Oslo o Zlo. It's called Oslo's sleep buds.
Now think about this. It's you know, you may sleep
in your Apple EarPods, or the way that most of
those earbuds in ear pods are designed. There's sometimes a
little thick there's sometimes a bubble, so when you lay
(01:00:45):
on your side on your pillow, it hurts your ear.
The Oslows are designed very incredibly thin, with a little
flexible little thing, so when you lay on your side,
you don't even feel that they're in. They are blue
tooth and you keep your little charging kate right next
to your bed, and you connect to the internet and
(01:01:06):
it could play soothing sounds like a waterfall or a
babbling book brook. You can listen to books on tape. Yes,
they also act, as you know, you can take calls
and everything if you hear an alarm. Yes, but I've
played with those and I need to start using those gags.
I've can use those things in a few months. Those
are about what are how much are Oslo earbuds? I
do not know. Let me do a little quick little
(01:01:27):
search for you. They it's about for three hundred dollars
or so three hundred dollars. There's other ones. I've only
tried the Oslo sleep buds. It's what they're called tricks
to make you go to sleep. And you know what
they're good for if you If you have a partner
and he or she snores, one of the pluses right
there for having those in. Anybody else got any sleep tactics,
(01:01:47):
I'm here for you. We are less than twelve minutes
of getting out of here, winding up the show, raising
a beer when we come to you as we are
right now from Patterson Park twenty two o five, Patterson
Park TV's college football lot going on as we wind
up the show. So bring us home, Google, great newspeople
(01:02:09):
for both me and you. Final statement, Oh my gosh,
it is I forgot how a little tiring, well, a
lot of tiring it could be to take the show
on the road where you are not in studio. It
is Michael Garfield, the high Tech Texan, and we have
not been in studio this entire show. Normally, sometimes I'll
(01:02:30):
do the show from Dallas this second Saturday of October. Normally,
sometimes I'll pre record it. But it is Texas, Oh
you weekend. For the first time in thirty plus years,
I am not at the game. I decided to hang
out here with my good friends at Patterson Park in Houston.
My official ut Texas. So you watch party kick off
two thirty on Saturday. If you're listening live, if the
(01:02:51):
game has already happened, well you know who won. Don't
tell me, but I'd love to have you come out here.
I'll be hanging around for some of the game. You
got your orang, John. I've been buying some drinks. Great places.
We are at two two five Patterson. Thank you so
much to Lonnie Lonnie Schiller, he is the proprietor here
for hosting us lots of We've been here since eleven o'clock,
(01:03:13):
obviously in the morning for almost two hours right now
watching some of the early games. I brought some tacos,
and thank you agetting to Speaking of tacos, Manu. If
you live in the southwest part of Houston and maybe
Sugarland Dulles area Dullas High Schooler, you've heard of Salis Tacos.
Family Taco has been around since mid eighties. They opened
(01:03:33):
another location this weekend. That's right, it's in Richmond, Texas,
a little further out west. Love for you to stop
by one one, one three to one Harlem Road in Richmond, Texas.
It's pretty much it's at Grand Parkway, ninety nine at
Harlem Road, just on the outside the west side of that.
Mike Eric Eric is the patron. He is the grandson
(01:03:55):
of the original owner who created years ago. They've got
breakfast talks all day, regular stuff, great salad, bulls and everything.
It's just, you know, I don't want to call it
mom and popa shop, but it's a mom and pop shop.
But I like supporting folks like them. They supplied breakfast
takos for us here this morning, and I do thank
them for that. Last week, we'll get one more set
(01:04:18):
of business over here for the show. Last week I
talked about Venmo and Haypal, owned by the same company,
but I led with this and I'm one of my
listeners actually called me on like, hey, I heard you
say Venmo and PayPal were getting in bed together. She
was laughing, But yeah, but they are. They're actually finally
(01:04:40):
merging a feature that should have been a long time coming.
And I'm number one. I'll break the news again, but
I'm gonna give you a little insight tip advice. Venmo
and PayPal, they're they're launching a new feature where you
can transfer money between these two automatic payments, which is great.
I don't know why it took I mean, after years
of wondering, two of the biggest payment apps on the
(01:05:01):
planet really couldn't talk to each other. PayPal Venmo. I
told you last week they're letting you send direct payments
between them and it does start in November, which is
really nice. I mean, PayPal bought Venmo eleven years ago.
What have you been doing eleven years?
Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
I use both of them, and I think more of
this out there. We're using wallet payment, smart wallet systems more. Yes,
if you have iPhone, you use Apple Pay. I have
Google Pay. I have Google Wallet. I keep a lot
of things in my Google wallet. You don't need just
money in there. I mean, yes, you can keep a
real credit card. You could also keep I mean I
(01:05:40):
keep my airline tickets, I keep my concert tickets, my
football tickets and everything. It's nice, but zell heypal Vinmo
cash app. These are apps that you have on your
phone that you can go to a retailer, hold your
phone directly up and pay instead of using your actually
(01:06:01):
real money, real wallet. You got Venmo, you got PayPal.
It's an easy way to send money to another person.
I you started using venmo, really really with my I
guess it was my youngest son. You went to college,
which is six six years ago. I guess now about
seven years ago. You know, Venmo is the way that
(01:06:22):
we could transfer Mom and dad could transfer money to kids.
So I set up a Venmo account. But then again,
so many people have Venmo, so many people have PayPal.
I get, you know, some of my You know, when
I do a client, if I make an appearance or
something like that, Hey man, can I PayPal you some money? Well,
yes you can. It works that way, and it's immediate.
You know. Back in the day is you know, sometimes
I would invoice a client and they would write a
(01:06:43):
check and then they would mail it and everything. It
would take weeks or whatever. Like now it's like, hey man,
Venmo me PayPal and I have a balance, And what
I do is I connect my my Uber, my lift app.
I connect it. It comes out of my paypals because
I have a balance in there and it shrinks. Sometimes
my PayPal gets low and I'm like, okay, now I
gotta go through my real bank account. I gotta add
(01:07:03):
more money and everything. How come I just can't use
my Venmo. Well, now I can take Venmo and now
I can go PayPal b anyway that's coming. Needless to
say the point I'm bringing up every here, it's I
want you to adjust a setting when it comes, all right,
and I'll remind you again when November. Okay. But one
(01:07:25):
of the things is very important which I never liked
about Vemo, is your privacy and visibility options because Venmo
longtime Venmo users, you know how annoying it is to
have your Venmo automatically make payment details public to every
single person you can act with. Hey Michael is paying
(01:07:45):
John three bucks for a slice of pizza. Hey Michael
is now paying eighteen bucks for a cocktail that Jenny
bought for me. And then it could get tricky. It's like,
you know, I'm gonna reimburse your for my game ambling debt,
or I'm gonna reimburse you for you know this trip
I you know, didn't tell anybody that was going on.
You don't do that? Well, you long could change that.
(01:08:07):
You just have to go to the private setting privacy settings.
And I've always from day one I said, no one
can see what I'm doing, right, keep your privacy invisibility
options in mind, adjust it, go to Venmo all right,
this is not fair. Go to Venmo, choose the settings,
look at privacy, and then go to your find me.
(01:08:29):
It's called find me options, and you can restrict who
can find you on PayPal. That's number one, so nobody
can actually spam me. The other thing is, if you
don't want anybody really seeing that you're having a slice
of pizza three in the morning you lost the gambling
bet to somebody, set your privacy to no one can
see I I just I thought that's weird. I mean that,
I don't we all share information on social media. No
(01:08:52):
one needs to see who I'm on paying or who
am I receiving money from. No one needs to see that.
Someone just pay me. I don't know thousand dollars for something.
I'm like that because now I'm a sitting duck right now. Okay, now,
hey listen, I mean I don't need to be, you know,
held up at gunpoint or something like that. Hey, I'm
forcing you right now to open your Venmo app and
(01:09:12):
actually transfer me a thousand dollars right now. Sadly, that's
that's a cyber attack that may be here, but it's
coming soon, and I'm not here to give anybody ideas.
So as we wind up the show, this is the
fun stuff I talk about. Never get serious, have fun,
talk much more than just about technology. I do not
(01:09:33):
do politics. Thank you so much. That's with a thing
that keeps me looking and acting young. And we talk
a lot of sports. And I cannot thank the nice
folks here at Patterson Park. Thank you Lonnie Schiller and
everybody else who has been a part of this thing.
They will be remember kick off for the Texas OU
game two thirty. They have NFL watching parties, they've got
all college they've got forty plus TVs and it's such
(01:09:55):
a fun place, free levels of this beautiful treehouse looking thing.
They're just so cool. Twenty two oh five, Patterson, I'll
be here for a while. Come say hi on behalf
of everybody. Callum will back at the studio. Thanks for
keeping the connection strong. For Brian Erickson are program director
of all the iHeartRadio stations across Texas, which keeps me
on air in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio. Thank you all
(01:10:18):
very much. I leave you with this for the first time,
maybe in thirty years, not from Dallas. On the second
Saturday of October, Hook of the Horns from me to you.
I am Michael Garfield, a high tech decent, and right
now party time because the show is over.
