I've been doing it for twenty three years, and hopefully
the nice guys here at the iHeartRadio across Texas will
will keep me here to entertain you for two hours
on the weekend. Hello Houston, KPRC nine fifty, San Antonio
(02:33):
News Radio twelve hundred WAI and my hometown of Big
D Dallas, where I'm sure my parents are not listening.
They have other things to do. Talk Radio eleven ninety
the whole usual cast of characters over here. There is Calum,
There is Will making sure the buttons are pushed and
you can hear the dulcet sounds of my voice while
I guide you through some of these topics this week.
(02:55):
Number one Chat GPT. Yeah it's AI. Yeah, you may
have been playing with it a bit, but they just
came out with a new browser. What are they trying
to do? Coring to the market of all of technology.
I'm gonna answer the question, should you download it? A
lot of questions about AI and chat GPT. There's some pluses,
there's maybe little minuses, things potentially be scared of. But
(03:18):
I'll let you know about this browser and if you
should download it. If you're an Uber driver, or you're
thinking of becoming an Uber driver, or maybe you maybe
want a little cash, or maybe you want help buying
an EV electric vehicle, I'm gonna tell you how Uber
is paying drivers four thousand dollars to switch to an EV.
I don't know if that's a cry for help from
(03:39):
the EV market or I don't know, Uber just wants
to attract more people Also, if you're a gamer, if
you like playing video games, and you have an Amazon
count Amazon Prime account, they just launched something pretty cool
that you and your kids are gonna love. But also
we may give a few things away while I do
some stories. Michael is a name, Michael Garfield. Speaking of stories,
(04:00):
I am traveling this weekend. I am leaving the country.
A is the TSA slow down or the government shut
down gonna slow my travels to Canada. Tune in to
my ex accounts or my Instagram accounts, and I will
let you know. I am off to BAMF Canada. Anyone,
(04:23):
anyone quickly. I take some recommendations. I'm going with a
few buddies to hike. Like hiking. I've done it to
probably once a year over the past, you know, four
or five years. Generally I go to Big Ben National Park,
did Utah area, not long ago. But we said, you
know what, let's do something a little different. So passport
(04:43):
in hand, my actual physical passport, not a digital one.
I'm gonna lead to that story. BAMF Canada. And I
hear it's beautiful. I hear it's beautiful, and I know
it's cold according to my mini weather apps, and I'm
packing and I'm gonna I travel a lot. If you
listen to this you know radio show, listen. Last year,
I got the opportunity to go to Berlin. I was
(05:05):
in London. Early this year, I went to China, and
as a guy who recommends products tech products, certainly when
you travel, you want to make sure that they're light.
You don't want and there's things that you cannot bring
in the plane. And I'm just not talking, you know,
more than three ounces of liquid. There's a limit of
you know, if you have an extra battery, there's a
limit to how many you know, milla amps per hour
(05:27):
that you can bring on a plane. So I tell
you some really neat travel gear. I'm I'm packing for this.
What is it about a four day trip that you'd
think I'm moving or at least going there for a month.
I am bringing more camera gear, microphones, drones that you
think I'm shooting a Hollywood movie. And you know, I'm
(05:50):
generally a light packer that I can fit everything in
an overnight case. Obviously, because it's winter and I got
to bring winter Michael clothes. I'm you know, I'm checking
a bag this time, but I've got a ton of
get let me see, I actually have a list over here.
What do I bring it? I am bringing soon away.
I've got a drone in the stand by. Next segment,
I'm going to talk about this drone I've been playing with.
(06:12):
It's from a company called hover Air and it's a
really fun, easy to use drone that listen, you could
take it out of the box play with it for
ten fifteen minutes. It's got a lot of pre program things.
So no, I can't wait to take that up in
the mountains hiking. I'm bringing a drone. I'm bringing a
three hundred and sixty degree camera, which I've had for
(06:32):
about a year, which is always fun to stitch together
some really you know neat mountain shots. I've got a tablet,
I've got a laptop. I've got my ray band Meta
ray band glasses, so i could just hike with my
hiking poles and then record things from the camera that
is built into the glasses that it will be hanging
on my face. Some companies sent me a really cool monocular.
(06:54):
You know what a monocular. It's not a binocular, which
is two eyes for your two eyes. This is a
monocular for one eye. So it's like a telescope, but
it's a really small hocket telescope. I'll tell you about
that and see if I can take some pictures. I've
got typical hiking poles I had to get because there's ice.
I have hiking boots. I've got hiking poles. I had
(07:17):
to go on Amazon. I had to get some crampons.
And that's not a female product, you know. They're called crampons,
and what they are. They strap on your shoes, they
strap on your boots and they're like spikes. I mean,
they're kind of like golf spikes, if you will. But
it allows you to have grip when you're walking in
the ice. And so I had to get that. So no,
I'm I'm all, you know, loaded up with all of
(07:39):
the other stuff, and I've got I got a camel back
backpack so I could put my bourbon in. Oh no,
I'm sorry, it's hydration, his gator I put my gatorade
in there. Got a few cigars for the boys, and
I do have some some travel batteries I've got I'm
bringing one that is the max amount of amp mill
hams that you can actually carry on a plane. It's
twenty eight thousand milla amps, which is I think it's
(08:01):
all right at one hundred watts. So if anybody needs
not only their laptop powered up, probably almost anything else.
If they brought a TV on there, I could probably
power that up for a number of different minutes. And
so well, some of the things I am. I am
pretty excited. I will be posting a lot of this
stuff in reviewing a lot of the products, including the
drone again and the monocular and some of these other things.
(08:21):
And that's why you need to follow me at least
on Instagram if you're not blocked. High Tech Texts at
h I G h T E C h T e
x A M. There you go. Olah from Canada, a
high Tech text and going north to Canada. Love to
hear of your comments. Three four six twenty nine Textan.
When we come back, I'm going to talk to you
about this drone. Great fun thing for kids and adults
(08:44):
of all ages, very simple to use, and I'll could
be a nice little holiday get. Just a few other
things that I do. Right here a very long running
high Tech Textans show. Yes, sir, indeed, it is the
(09:11):
high Tech Textan show. That's what we call this for
twenty three years. Michael is my name, Michael Garfield. You've
been a long time listener people two decades, not only
here across the world on iHeartRadio, but also thank you
for following me with my syndicated TV stuff. Obviously you
can go to my website check it out. High Tech
textan dot com h I G H T E H
(09:31):
T e x A N. Of course, I'm I'm trying
to hook you up on Instagram people, I'm you know,
almost fifty thousand followers love hearing from I think what
you do? You live? I heariously through me? Is that?
What it is? All the cool stuff that I get
to play with, the gadgets, the cars I get to
test drive, and all the fun stuff. And I know
that because I got a lot of comments emails and
(09:56):
in obviously the comments right on social media of the
latest drone I was playing with. And I mean, I
gotta tell you, I've done this for twenty plus years.
I am a bit jaded when it comes to tech
products and tech gadgets, yes, and so it takes a
lot to impress me. I gotta tell you, I've been
smiling and I've been having fun with this drone. And
(10:20):
it's nice because I've already had a lot of my
listeners say, hey, listen, I went out and bought the thing.
Let me talk about it here real quick. If that's
okay with you, pull up a chair.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
It is.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
There's a number of different categories when it comes to drones. Listen,
I remember going I've gone to CES for twenty plus
years and drones weren't a thing. And now there's an
entire wing of the convention Center dedicated to drones. I mean,
there's big drones that actually could be used by police officers, firefighters.
There's a drone that actually can drag up a fire
hose to actually water you know, a fire and a
(10:54):
height in a tall story building. I'm not kidding you.
And then there's the small drones, the pocket drones, where
you can go out and you can you know kind
of you know, take video shots or photos of your house.
Realtors love these things. They can show off houses or so.
But there's there's a category I call it follow me.
Maybe we call it a selfie camera where there are
(11:16):
drones that very simple to use, that you have pre
programmed flight patterns where you hit a button, they float
up and they will follow you. So if you are
a big outdoor enthusiast like I am, you're a runner,
you're a biker, you're a skier, you're doing I don't know,
(11:36):
you're trying to drive a car. I review cars and
you know, and it's nice to have another third party
outside shot of the vehicle. Listen, I don't have the
production budget of getting a dolly any type of tracking device,
you know, for for you know, up and down shots
and everything. Those are follow me cameras, and that's what
I've been playing with right now. So let me just
(11:57):
go ahead and tell you and bury the lead the
name of this company of the product. It's from a
company called hover Air hover Air, and this is their
latest X one Promax. It is a simple It is
a small. It is a light selfie drone that can
shoot up to eight K and video, simple operation, just
(12:21):
a whole slew of automated flight modes. It's smaller than
some of these other selfie type of drones that I've seen,
and to me, it's easier to use. The image quality
is very good. So let me describe this over here.
It is it's foldable, Yes, it's foldable and it weighs
maybe it's under seven ounces, and when I first got
(12:45):
it out of the package, it's this clever folding design
that took me by storm. It's got a cage, and
I want you to think about this very light I
don't know abs plastic was cage. It fits in the
without a doubt. It's seven ounce. So you hold your
palm up and that's actually how you launch it. You
hold it in your palm and you can actually say
(13:06):
take off, or you can push a button, you can
use your phone and it just goes up and then
the camera goes round. But the point is a lot
of the drums that I've flown over the years, at
least I've tried to flown the propellers quad cop there's
generally there's four little fast propellers that are exposed, which
means if and in my case, when I crash into
(13:27):
something and it falls, those propellers are going to fall off,
the propellers are going to break, and then you're screwed,
and it is just nasty. The propellers on this hover
Air Romax and actually the pro they're totally encased in
this cage. So if it does happen to draw from
(13:49):
the sky. It's not going to fall and land directly
on the propellers. It's in this cage. Ingenius. Ingenius. So
it's it's tough to get damaged. I'm not going to
say you can't damage is the thing. Everything you can
get damaged. But to me, I actually the first time
I did it, I was playing around with it. It
probably fell a good twenty feet twenty five feet. I'm like, oh, guy,
here we got you know what, nothing. Maybe did it
(14:11):
get a scratch on it? I don't know. Maybe it's
a little you know, paint chip from from a rock,
flew right up again. You pull it out of the case,
you unfold it, you hit the power button, You select
your preferred selfie video style. Right there's a button right
on there. There's a there's a little LCD screen. Whether
you want it to hover, whether you wanted to zoom out,
whether you want it to circle, whatever, the bird's eye orbit.
You just tap it. Under a minute, you're set to go,
(14:35):
and you don't have to worry about it. Now. Allegedly
it can follow you bikers skiers up to a speed
of about twenty six miles per hour. Listen, I don't
run that fast. Okay, I've got it. I've got to
I'm testing. Also an e bike right now goes up
to twenty one miles an hour. It's followed me quite well.
SD card comes with it. It is so simple once
(14:56):
the video is on that it's inside that sty card
to connect obviously Wi Fi and transfer it. The video
looks great. You do have the option again to record
an eight K up to thirty frames per second four
K HDR video also up to thirty frames per second
and even sixty frames per second if you really want to.
So there's a whole different slew you could do. Yes,
(15:17):
you could do photos. Photos are twelve megapixels and forty
eight megapixels and there's just a number of things that
you can do this. It is simple now some of
the drones I've flown over the years, there you gotta
freaking take a test. You gotta watch videos. In fact,
a nice PR company who sent it to me, it's like, hey,
do you need to like a tutorial in a one
(15:38):
on one zoom interview with someone to show you how
to set up And obviously my answer was no, because
one of the things I do as a reviewers, as
an endorser as an influence whatever. If I can't take
a product out of the package and figure it out
myself without talking to somebody or reading the instructions, ain't
nobody else gonna do it. I've covered tech analogy for
(16:00):
a while. No need to do that. You play with it,
you know, listen, go spend thirty minutes an hour, go
stand outside your house. A lot of videos. Also, they're
so high end, higher end, expensive things. Sometimes you can't
fly them near an airport. You gotta have FCC clearance.
I've had no issue with that whatsoever. I don't I
look kind of close to a smaller airport, but no
big deal whatsoever. But I figured it out how to
(16:23):
take off automatically do it, and you can also control it.
Now obviously, what you do is you download an app.
It's got a really nice, easy to use app for Hovermax.
Now there's a separate accessory which I did not get.
I would have liked to try, but they did not
send that to me. That's a controller that your phone
will kind of fit into, so it's got the joysticks
and everything. I really haven't found the need to use
(16:45):
that because what happens is when you open this app.
There's on screen on your phone controls that you can
touch to take it up, to take it down, to
zoom left, to zoom right, just a number, really interesting thing.
Battery comes with two batteries. Obviously, the batteries are very light.
This this thing has to be light because it's got
(17:06):
to float, right, It's got two batteries. They say that.
The company says maybe they're gonna last about sixteen minutes.
I think the max I got out of it somewhere
around eleven or twelve. So I bring the drone down,
pop the other battery in. While the other battery is
up in the air, I will charge the other one, Dana.
It takes maybe, you know, I don't know, an hour,
forty forty minutes, maybe an hour to charge the other battery.
(17:28):
But still I don't have the need to actually, you know,
shoot it entire to and a half movie on a drone.
Now I play with it for a few minutes, you know,
I pop the other battery in, and so now I'm
getting a good you know, maybybe twenty twenty five minutes
that's enough before I charge it again. This I gotta
be and I saw this. I'm on their website, and
(17:49):
it is. They're proud of it because it was named
just recently as one of Time magazines Top technology. Let
me just make sure I get this right, but it
was Time Magazine's Best Inventions of twenty twenty five, one
of the best inventions. And it really is mister jaded
(18:12):
high tech Texan, the man you listen to all over
the world. I've been doing this for digit it's it's
foldable to portable.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Now.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
I've played with it at my golf course, a ranch
outside my home, biking, and I'm going on a hiking
trip to Canada and not too long for right now,
and I'm interested to see the beautiful pictures that it
takes while I'm hiking, you know, zooming around the mountains,
and I'm getting pictures and obviously I'm gonna post this
(18:39):
is as quickly as to So that's one of the
reasons you need to follow me on Instagram High Tech
texts and Hi, g h T E c h T
e x A n oh, you want the price as
I'm getting emails right here. Yeah, So the hover air
X one Pro Max. Now, this is the Pro Max.
This it's it's not the cheapest thing, you know, feel
free to shop around. Want to seven hundred dollars, seven
(19:01):
hundred dollars, and it does not come with any accessories
or any other bundles. They also have a version of
the X one Pro. The X one Pro is five
hundred dollars. No, there is a difference in a number
of things, and I'm going to let you do your
research because I'm running out of time for this segment.
But if you're looking for a drone, I don't care
how old you are, but a kids love these drones too.
This is one of the easiest ones I have ever flown.
(19:24):
I went to stand bike shortly. I'm going to be
using this in one of my TV segments. If you're
in the Austin, if you're in Dallas in the area
across Texas, you can go on my website and I'll
show you how to use it. Go check out the Instagram.
But it's a neat holiday gift stocking stuffer, just something
to play around and certainly if you're a content creator,
check it out. Hover Air by the way, it's hoverair
dot com. You can go there. Michael Garfield is the name.
(19:46):
I appreciate. It got some phone calls coming in. People
do want to talk about drones. I'm more than happy
to answer that. We're going to be back right here
all across the world on I Heard Radio. Did you
(20:11):
run out and get a drone? I mean, I'm not listen.
I have no skin in the game or scratch of
the game for most all the products that a review.
I'd love it just tuning in. It's Michael Garfield, the
High Tech Text and Show. I just did a segment
talking about the hover Air x one pro Max. It's
a drone. I've been playing with it for about a
month right now and it's very easy to use. And
(20:31):
so if you miss that, just now, Well that's what
podcast is for. Callum and Will they will be putting
this show up on the podcast. You can go to
the iHeartRadio app when the show is done or throughout
the week, and you can go back and listen to
all my shows what I'm talking about. Just look for
Michael Garfield, look for high Tech textan or look for
the radio station that you are listening to restfully to
(20:53):
right on right now. Then you will be able to
find it. That was pretty good talking about my trip
but to take Canada. So I got my my my
passport is is is packed my physical passport, and it's
I'm not going to say I'm still surprised or amazed
(21:14):
or disappointed that in today's world we still need to
physically carry our passport, our driver's license in most states,
and things because there's so many things available on our
phones that are digital. I mean, we can pay for
most anything by holding our Google Wallet, our Apple Pay
(21:39):
you know, right up to you know, a terminal or
a register or something, and it seamlessly transfers. But I
don't know, I guess our digital ID estate. They still
want the physical presence, which is that's a tough paradigm shift,
but it's slowly changing, slowly, And I got the story
over here. I read this interesting just this week. Apple
(22:01):
is soon going to allow iPhones to add digital versions
of their US passports to their phones. They're gonna be
a compliant with real ID, but you're still going to
need a physical US passport to fly internationally or even
(22:23):
across the US land borders with Canada Mexico. Head scratcher. Yes,
I mean, so Apple is saying they want to broaden
how people can use its wallet feature for identification purposes. Cool.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
I like that.
Speaker 4 (22:41):
In some states you can already use a digital ID
for your driver's license, not in Texas, but some states
you can't. But Apple said they want people to use
the wallet for concert tickets, student IDs, your house keys,
your car keys, your hotel keys, and more like that. Okay,
I dig it, So let's go put your passport in there.
But I still don't know why you have to have
(23:02):
the physical thing. So when it becomes available iPhone users,
you can scan your physical US passport to add it
to your wallet app. All right, So it's going to
create a digital ID that is compliant with real ID,
and when flying domestically, listen what I'm saying, travelers can
show that digital version from their iPhone or even your
(23:24):
Apple Watch instead of using their physical passport. So you
got that going for you at some TSA checkpoints because
real ID is required to fly within the US and territories. Okay,
but travelers are not going to be able to use
their digital ID to fly internationally, and not even to
Canada where I am, or Mexico. So you know, I'm
(23:46):
digging this thing. There are risks global identity access management
in all this other stuff, possible dangers of digital ID
wallets listen, let me just start listing them. Security breaches,
identity theft, data, privacy issues, losing your device. That's another
risk to which is why I've always tell you to
(24:07):
make sure you have a password or you know, face
ID on your phone. People using digital ID wallets, you
need to take a number of different precautions. If you're
listening out of state, and maybe I think it's California
and several other states, they do allow you to have
your driver's license and use it on your phone. But
(24:28):
if and when you never get to that point, you
need to use strong, unique passwords or a pin number.
Always enable that two factor authentication, Always keep your devices
and that software up to date. And also you kind
of forget about this. Be cautious about where you're making
digital transactions. Verify that you're shopping or using your digital
(24:52):
ID at legitimate sites. So I guess we're taking baby steps,
but you know, I've always worried. Man. I mean, I'm
of course I'm gonna jinx myself right now. I don't
lose a lot of things. If you're traveling domestically and
you you lose your you know, driver's license, and you
and you're away then you got to get back on
(25:13):
the plane. Yeah, you have to go to the TSA
and you got to prove it, you whatever. But it's
always like, what if you're like really traveling crazy somewhere
in a foreign land and you lose your passport and
it's oh my, I mean it's it's it's good to
have a backup, right. I will tell you little tip.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
This is.
Speaker 4 (25:29):
This is it's it's not so much a technology trip.
That tip is just a typical garf thing. What I do,
I've always done this. Always scan or take a picture
with your phone of your driver's license and your passport.
Then upload it to your personal cloud, put in your
(25:52):
your Apple, your your your eye drive, drop box, one box,
whatever it is. Maybe you want to email it to
yourself and have it on an email because if you
do lose it, at least you have a photo of
your passport. Because I know every detail of my driver's icens,
I know my driver's ices number, I know when it expires.
(26:13):
Passport not so much it's got all these letters and numbers,
it's got my photo. So at least when you go
to the US embassy or consulate somewhere, should you lose it,
you could show them at you and then maybe they
can help you recover again. Just a little tip when
you do it. What else can I do for you?
Eight phone number year is three four six twenty nine
Texan three four six two nine e x A N.
(26:34):
This portion of our show brought to you by something
I'm hungry for right now, the brand new so Lee's
Tacos sol is Z. If you're in the Houston area
and you're a longtime resident of let's just say Sugarland, Stafford,
Missouri city on the south west side, thirty years there's
been this phenomenal mom and pop taco stand called sol
is Z. It's right across from like Dallas High School.
(26:55):
Phenomenal open, a brand new one. They are open. It
is enrichment in Texas, right on Grand Parkway ninety nine
at Harlem Road, opened a few weeks ago. An idiots good.
I travel up and down that way when I go
to like Houston to Austin, back and forth, which I
was earlier this week. I stopped by Slee's and got
me a beautiful egg and bean taco.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
It was.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
It was great. One one one three one Harlem Road
and Richmond, Texas. S O l I Z they got
to drive through and they got a lot of other
fun stuff. And so that is what you know, what
the the play by play is doing now coming up
as we continue the High Tech Textan show. Yes, I
could I see a few phone calls. Let's see if
I can maybe answer them either now or offline during
the commercials about drones. Apparently a lot of I have
(27:41):
drone flyers. When I just gave my review of the
uh hover Air x one Max Pro and if anybody
actually wants to see some shots of the h Hover
Air x one Promax on my Instagram, I took some
really beautiful sweeping shots of Big Easy Ranch. And if
you're not familiar Big Easy Ranch, you need to know
(28:03):
about it. It's in Columbus, Texas, and it is just
it's a mecha of two thousand acres of this the
number one rated private golf course in the state of
Texas called the Covey. It's got a nine hole golf course,
it has got a big game hunting right on site.
And just as important, through their beautiful vaunted gates, you
can go in and people are building on their own lots.
(28:26):
They're second homes and it's just as it's such a
great camaraderie. It is beautiful year round, and it's you know,
a smack between Houston and Austin right off of Iten
right near seventy one. But with Billy Brown, great entrepreneur,
just a smart, smart dude. He just had this vision
and he built it several years ago and it is expanding.
(28:50):
And it's so funny because a number of I know
a number of buddies and friends out there who are
now members, and I was out there. They believe they
let they let me on property. No clue. I got
a think Nicole Scarborough for that one. No, No, they
let me on property to go out there and play
some golf, and I was just in awe. I mean,
these houses are wonderful, and I know they're if you're
interested in buying a second home, once you go to
(29:12):
Big Easy ranch dot com and you can get all
the information. By anyway, point is brought my drone out
there and I was playing on their par three course
and they've got They've got a par three hole that
literally is patterned after Augusta number twelve. I mean, I'm littal.
The only thing I'm missing is my green jacket folks.
I mean, that's as simple as that. And I was,
you know, using the several features of drone. They also
(29:32):
have this beautiful what is about a three story structure
overlooking their their eighteenth green at the Covey. It's called
the Eagles Nest for members only. By the way, this
is a private club, FYI, but you could you two
could join. And I was up at the top and
I was flying this drone around and it's very simple
to use drone, and I've got these really unbelievable sweeping
(29:54):
shots of zooming in and zooming out in three hundred
and sixty degrees and doing an orbit. So something tells
me I'm gonna be up there on a regular basis,
and I'm just I don't know, maybe I'm their official videographer.
I think that's where with a drone like this. If
you just missed it, go back to my previous segment
where I was giving the full reviewed of the hover
Air X one pro max drone. I do want to
(30:15):
thank the beautiful and nice folks at Big Easy Ranch
for letting me through those gates. And it is spectacular
if you are a golfer, like even my buddy Doug Pike,
who's here at the radio station, big golfer guy. He's
out there and he's like, man, next time you get
out there, Garf, I need to.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Be with you.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
Maybe Doug, maybe I know people. I could probably get
through the gates, so you know, maybe you could be
my guest. But check it out. It's big Easy ranch
dot com and you can see some of the video,
high tech text and spell the whole thing out that
is on my Instagram account where you could see me
flying this beautiful drone out there. Final segment coming up
at the high tech text and show Michael Garfield right here,
don't go anywhere. Some the podcasts across David, Texas. Just
(31:09):
a few more medicine until the top of the hour.
I do thank you for listening. Be it live Clausby
Live on podcast. Whether you're terrestri you're listening to it
and some of the major cities across Texas or on
your phone, doesn't matter. Oh don't forget. This is the
high tech way of doing things. On iHeart Radio. You
actually could tell your little smart speaker in your kitchen
bedroom somewhere, you could say, yo, well whatever your wake
(31:31):
word is, which I really don't want to say it,
because if you are at home, it's gonna wait. Actually,
wake it up, you go, yo blank, listen to the
High Tech Text and Show on iHeartRadio or yo if
you're in Houston, listen to KPRC AM radio on iHeartRadio
and then you could just you don't have to have EarPods,
air beer buds or anything like that, so you could
(31:53):
just listen to it that way. Michael Garfield is the
day mid by breaking news. It's called the High Tech
Text and Show. Who's used to AI and Chat GPT.
It's from a company called open Ai, and it's it's
continuing to be improved. It's unbelievable how you know you
could just tell it to write scripts or do this,
and that you'd make pictures and images. It's quite scary
(32:15):
actually that it's so good. Well, people there may be
a little scared to use the whole thing. They may
want to shy away from it, but it's coming. But
I'm trying to figure out the company open Ai that
kind of oversees it, and are they trying to conquer
(32:39):
all of technology? I mean, listen, Microsoft started out as simply, well,
we're going to make an operating system and now, I mean,
look at Microsoft, they've got our word processing, they've got
gaming with the Xbox, they've got clouds or as, They've
got a lot of stuff. So open aa I may
be doing thing the same thing because guess what they
just launched its very first Internet browser, powered by chat GPT.
(33:05):
Don't know why I haven't downloaded it yet because I'm
thinking about it, and maybe you could. Let's just talk
this through, all right, my dear listeners. I'm guessing it
could make surfing the web easier, But there are people
shockingly surprised about the privacy risk that everyday users may overlook.
So they announce the internet browser, and it's called chat
GPT Atlas, and it's free, and it's going to work
(33:30):
very similar to Google Chrome or Firefox or Safari. Oh
by the way, but it has chat GPT built into
it and that artificial intelligence. It can remember more browser history,
allowing users to retrieve passe searches or information. It also
(33:53):
works with a chat GPT agent. So let me give
you an example. So if you're using it, you can
open a retailer's website. You can ask chat GPT to
add certain items to a cart, buy them, have the
items delivered to home whatever, just talk to it. Do
you want to download this thing? Well, I'm gonna tell
you right now, you need to think twice. And I'm
(34:14):
thinking twice too. If you're already sensitive to sharing data,
certainly with open AI, when you use chat GPT, you
may not want to do it. Are you happy with
your browser? You want to experiment at your own risk
because when you type out a question to chat GPT,
think about it, you're in control of the information you're
(34:34):
sharing with them. On the other hand, when you're using
their browser for day to day task, it's kind of
easy to forget that all your activity could be sent
to open AI. Now I have nothing to hide. I
don't do anything nefarius whatever. I researched the show. I
look at my ESPN dot com stuff, and I go
on my merry way. But I'm looking at some of
the features over here. It does look like a traditional
(34:57):
internet browser. You could type in a URL, you could
type and a question a term into that main search
bar for search results. Well, this has some interesting new features,
pretty unique over here. So it's got a sidebar chat
GPT sidebar, So you open a chat GPT sidebar on
any web page, it'll summarize it for you, it'll analyze it,
it'll do some tasks for you. Then here's another one.
(35:21):
It can help you write some things if you highlight
text in a form field. So maybe you're doing something
with an email message and you can ask you GPT
to write or edit text, homepaid Suggestions Chat. GPT remembers
topics and sites that you search very frequently and recently,
and the Atlas homepage suggests these when you launch it.
(35:45):
So if you use this agent mode, we're going to
call it the AI agent mode. The AI cannot run
code in the browser. And again I'm talking a little
bit techy here, which I don't like to do here
on the radio show. It's not gonna run code, it's
not gonna download file, it's not going to install extensions
or even access your browser history. All right, But if
you want to right now to use it, it is
(36:07):
only accessible on Mac systems running Mac os twelve, which
is one of the reasons why I can't download it
because I don't have a Mac. I'm I'm a Windows guy.
But use it with caution. One of the main concerns
that many tech experts me potentially included we have with
this atlas is it's promoted browser memories that can save
(36:30):
and remember information from all your visited sites. So just
be cool. This is just to summarizes it is putting
a toe in the water of what chat GPT open. Aye.
And it's not just them. There are many other companies
who are now trying to conquer the AI market. Now
they're getting into browsers. Then what a're going to do.
We're processing and then we're gonna do. We're seeing stories
(36:54):
of what artificial intelligence is doing. Do you see Amazon
They laid off fourteen thousand words this week alone. Now
they got a million and a half employees. But they're
saying that a lot of the task that these workers
are doing are slowly being replaced by artificial intelligence. That's
not the greatest news we hear. And when you're using
(37:17):
things like this, and I don't talk about AI a ton.
I play with a little. I don't do too much.
As it gets smarter, Yes, I'm playing with some of
the engines. You know, Hey, here's a photo of me.
Create an image of me in an astronaut suit floating
over the moon, and seven seconds later, here is me
(37:38):
in an astronaut suit floating over the moon that you think. Actually,
there's you know, the Hubble telescope. It it took it
because it's so clear. It's amazing things like that. Yes,
I'm playing with it. I don't do anything crazy professional.
I still write, I still do my own stories. I
have a way of talking. But at some point it's
going to replicate my voice in your voice. It just
it don't have my humor or bs. Does it be? Well,
(38:00):
that's why you need to continue here. Hope you enjoy
that next hour. Don't go anywhere. Uber is paying drivers
four thousand dollars to switch to electric vehicles. Does this
say anything about the state of the electric vehicle world,
which is not going as hot as you probably think
it is. And if you're a gamer, kids, listen, you
(38:21):
like playing games and you have Amazon, well, my goodness,
you've got it early, you know, holiday present, because they
Amazon just launched this online pretty cool gaming center that's
already included in your Amazon Prime account where you're not
gonna be able to even you know, talk to kids
or not. You don't have enough time to actually go
one and download any of the other movies that your
(38:42):
calls three four six twenty nine Texan. That's how you're
going to be the pree Michael gart Vehicles. The name
it's the high Tech Textan Show. We'll be back with
one more hour.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
Is Michael Garfer Michael Garfield.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Michael Garfield's joining.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
In the high Tech Textan. Michael Garfield is here with
a high Tech Textan.
Speaker 4 (39:12):
It is to make life easier technology and Michael Garfild
has something you might want.
Speaker 1 (39:22):
Michael Garfield is your high Tech Texans, three decades helping
you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the
iHeartRadio address. Now you're high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield.
Speaker 4 (39:43):
Final hour of the High Tech Texting Show. One hour down,
one hour ago, which means we are halfway to happy hour,
Happy Happy Appy. If you're listening on Saturday right now,
and if you're in the Houston area, you got your
Texas Longhorns playing a big official semi official UT watch party.
Patterson Park. What a fun, fun place like this three
(40:03):
level beautiful tree house not too far from the heights,
relatively near downtown twenty two five Patterson Go check it out.
Patterson Street.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
It is.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
If I'm where you're burn orange and come early, come loud,
big big game versus Vanderbilt, Big big big game. Michael
Garfield is the name. Yes, I'm a U T alum,
which is why I'm always talking about ut stuff. Also
a Cowboy fan. I'm kind of quiet this week after
the Denver Broncos Houston Texans. It's the Broncos Ears that
actually hopefully will be a better game than it my
(40:34):
Cowboys were last week. Phone number here for this radio show.
Should you want to contribute, should you want to talk,
give me your thoughts, agree or disagree, you know whatever.
I mean. We're not doing politics. We don't do that. People,
We'll do We'll do consumer lifestyle products. I'm about to
talk about cars and trucks. We can do sports. I'm
here for you. Three four six two nine eight three
(40:57):
nine two six. Thanks again, Callum and Will. They are
other side of the glass, pushing the buttons and they
will put this show on podcast along with all my
other ones that you can download the iHeartRadio app. And
here we talk a lot about cars. I have reviewed
vehicles for fifteen years and it's I realized long time
(41:18):
ago that when I started talking about just technology products,
you know, phones and TVs, cars and drugs, they are
nothing but technology, and so that's why I've been covering it.
So you know, I like to I get to test
drive some stuff. One of the ones, what's Michael driving
in this week? Calum? We still don't have bumper music
for that, do we know? We need to work on that.
Every week I do get to drive in a brand
(41:39):
new vehicle, relatively brand new vehicle. It is not coming
from a dealership. I don't deal with dealers. I deal
directly with manufacturers, and so third party company comes down
and they switch cars every single Thursday pretty much, and
I get to drive it and I can give you
my thoughts. It is not paid, so I can rag
on it and I can say how much I love it.
(41:59):
So this is where you're gonna get the real stuff.
I have done well of one thousand vehicles in fifteen years.
And if you want to hear, if you're in the
market for a vehicle, go to iHeartRadio or Spotify and
look for high tech text and podcast and that's pretty
much where I talk, you know, eight ten minutes or
so about vehicles, which am I about to do right
now because this past week or so I was in
(42:21):
a huge twenty twenty five model year Ram twenty five
hundred Rebel crew cab pickup truck. And as they say,
nothing stops a Ram. This is a RAM twenty five hundred,
not the typical fifteen hundred maybe, which is what have done.
(42:43):
This is a big one, the Ram twenty five hundred.
It rolls up. I'm six foot tall. I think the
hood goes up to my head. I mean, that's how
big this thing is. Massive wheels off row, but I
like it's the Rebel. Rebel is their upgraded package off road.
The tires are unbelievable. But this is tons of upgrades
that they have in this one, a lot of optional
(43:04):
equipment along with their standard stuff that I'll quickly go through.
But it is big. It's nasty, and I say nasty
in a complementary term. If you've got a ranch, if
you like doing off roading, if you do have some
things to trail, maybe it's a boat or something, potentially
a house, you should look at it because it is big.
It has got just a massive six point seven liter
(43:26):
Cummins turbo diesel engine. That's right, diesel people, So make
sure you have def in there too. It's a thing
I talked about before, but don't worry about it, but
it is. It's not as loud as your typical, you know,
diesel engines. I think the technology has come there, but
it gets you. It's got pedal to the medal. It's
(43:48):
got some get up and go. I didn't do a
zero to sixty, but it has got great axle ratio
and towing technology package and tons of safety features and
goes on. But the rebel, I mean, it's everything from
the cool sun visors to the leather trim bucket seats.
I took my notes over here. It's got you know,
(44:09):
two wireless charging pads. The twelve inch No, it's actually
I think it's a fourteen inch touch screen. Ram was
the first one I believed had that first vertical twelve
inch oriented touch screen, which so many other vehicles, including
electric vehicles out right now. Is just unbelievable. Big leather
wrapped steering wheel. I can go on and on, but
(44:31):
it is a big boy. And the base price right
about sixty nine thousand dollars, but the way they delivered
it to me was just under one hundred thousand dollars.
Look at me, big daddy garf, big time. Moving on up,
rolling in a six figure vehicle. That's because some of
the options. One of the options was the six point
(44:53):
seven liter Cummins engine. That's a twelve thousand dollars plus upgrade.
You don't need to get the six point seven leater.
But dude, if you're gonna go all out and get
a beautiful rebel, you want a big old engine, don't you?
And then you know they got you know, things are
the like I said. The towing technology pack at sixteen
hundred dollars. Safety futures are two thousand dollars, brush guards
(45:15):
that you know, the sound system, everything it's said. Listen,
you don't need to upgrade it to one hundred thousand dollars.
You could start anywhere in sixty nine thousand, seventy thousand
dollars and it works well. I I probably got twenty
twenty eight to twenty two miles per gallon. I did
take it on the road. I did do a little
quick Houston to Austin trip normally. I guess I must
(45:39):
have been driving it a lot because I did have
to fill the car up with a diesel fuel. Normally
I can get to Austin and back, certainly on a
big truck tank without filling it up. But I was
rolling around some other places too. But it's I'm a
RAM fan. I'm not the biggest. I don't personally, I
don't need a pickup truck. I'm not in the mode
the lifestyle where I need to schlep things. I need
(46:01):
to tow things. I don't go off road a ton.
I don't go to my ranch or things or whatever
this is. I mean, I guess the only downside that
I can knock it with. But you know, se La Vis,
it's a truck. It's a big truck. Not the easiest
thing to park because it's so wide. You know, I
want to make sure I'm between the lines. It's long,
(46:22):
so my butt the tail is always sticking out too.
And generally I'm a little I have some trepidations going
into parking garages. You know, when the clearance is like
six foot six inches, it's my oh my goodness, god,
I hope I clear the whole thing. And I've had
some luck. So it's big. There's nothing wrong with big.
I'm just telling you what to expect. This is one
(46:42):
of those No, it's not just your typical RAM fifteen hundred,
your f one fifty, your you know the Sierra, the
GMC's or the Chevy's not this is a big one.
And if you do want and you love the outdoors
and you want to go on road and off roa
maybe your work truck. I love In fact, this has
the RAM boxes on the side which are the lockable.
(47:03):
It's ingenius avention. It's been on there for years, but
I love it. When you go to a tailgate party,
you put ice on the two sides back there which
lined the outsides of that tailgate. You put some cold
beverages in there, and then game is on. But the
way it is comfortable you step up, it's it is,
it's massive. This one even has a secondary video screen
(47:26):
for the passenger. Now the driver can't see it because
the way it's angled, but if the passenger is rolling
down the freeway and then they want to watch their
own video movie, there's an HDMI cord input that you
put your little earbuds in and now you can watch
video on a bigger screen versus your your your phone.
(47:48):
So things like that. I like it. Appreciate Prestige Auto
Ram for letting me roll around in this thing. If
I was in the market for a big vehicle, a big, big,
big pickup truck easily. This is my top two or three.
That's how much love it. I just love Rebel because
you can also get a the RAM fifteen, a Rebel thing,
or the Ram Rebel too. But this is the Ram
twenty five hundred Rebel Crew Cab twenty twenty five model year.
(48:11):
With that, I'm gonna come back and I'm going to
tell you if you are a Google, if you are
a Uber driver, do you have a truck. I've actually
been in an Uber where somebody's picking me up in
a truck. Kind of interesting. It wasn't an EV truck.
But Uber just announced they are paying drivers four thousand
dollars to switch to electric vehicles. You know what, I
(48:33):
may just take up a little side gig, little side hustle.
Coming up again, it's Michael Barfield. Welcome High Tech Texting Show.
(49:02):
Oh number, should you want to be interactive with me
and Michael Cornfield on the High Tech dex In Show.
Thank you so much for tuning in. Three four six
two nine eight three nine two six Happy weekend. Uh yes,
we're gonna set the clocks back. We're going to gain
an hour of sleep, except me because I am I'll
be in Canada where I'm going to BAMF Canada. If
(49:25):
you just tuned in, uh, last time I talked about
I'm going to BAMF Canada. I'm bringing more geared to
actually probably looks like I'm shooting a movie. I got drones,
i got all this fun stuff that I'm testing, and
I'm gonna be hiking with some buddies. BAMF is on
mountain times, so I'm already an hour behind Central time,
and when I come back, I get Really I'm pretty
smart about this, but I'm just too tired to think
(49:46):
about it. I don't know if I'm actually gonna realize
that I gained an hour of sleep, But you did,
and you're still on the sugar high from Halloween. Butt,
those Halloween decorator actually go out and get the half
price candy, half price decorations for next year. You know
the phone number over here we're talking about vehicles, and
last segment I was talking about I gave the play
(50:07):
by play of my Weekly car review. Happened to be
in a Ram twenty five hundred rebel, which is a big,
big pickup truck, which was quite nice, only one hundred
thousand dollars the way I actually get it, So it's
not that big of a deal if you want that.
I saw an article that Uber, speaking of vehicles.
Speaker 5 (50:29):
They're paying drivers four thousand dollars to switch to evs
electric vehicles.
Speaker 4 (50:40):
So I saw the headline and I'm thinking, let's decipher
the headline here. What is happening with the headline. Does
this mean the EV industry is in a world of hurt?
(51:01):
Does it mean that Uber is trying to entice more
potential drivers by giving them money or helping them with evs.
There's a lot of questions that I have, but that's
what I'm here to figure out. So here are the
deats over here. Uber is paying drivers to switch to
(51:23):
EV's because they can have a new program called go Electric.
It's a grant program and it offers eligible drivers up
to four thousand dollars for switching to a new or
used electric vehicle. Huh, this is this is not a PSA,
This is not a commercial. I'm just sitting here deciphering this.
So the grant could be used for new or used
(51:46):
and to be eligible, you drivers must be in the
Diamond Uber pro ear and have never had an EV
on their account to be eligible to apply. I'm not
an EV driver. I'm not an Uber driver, so I
do not know what this diamond Uber prote here is.
If you are an Uber driver listening to me, give
me a shot. You can actually explain all this stuff works.
Give me a shot see if actually you would switch
(52:08):
to an EV for four thousand dollars three four six,
twenty nine Texan. That's my phone number here. You have
to apply for the grant before you buy the new car.
And what Uber is saying here is the it's designed
to help offset the cost of buying an electric vehicle,
especially after the expiration of the federal EV tax credit,
which went away the end of September, which we know
(52:29):
because I've been talking about that. Let's see, eligible drivers
in New York, California, Colorado, Massas Choosis can apply for
the grant, and driver's nationwide can also get a thousand
dollars discount on EV's through True Car, which is I
guess it's a car purchasing thing, first come, first serves
(52:50):
before the funding is completed. Thoughts on this Uber Electric
It's the EV industry, which I cover a lot. Had
I really banner third quarter because we knew that the
EV tax credit up to seventy five hundred dollars was
(53:12):
expiring in September thirtieth. It has expired since then. Oh,
sales have not been going well. Announcements from the major
manufacturers who make evs GM for Kiyos, they they're not
speeding up production on evs. Let me just put it
that way. They're not speeding up. They've got product to
(53:35):
move currently on dealership plots and they're trying to find
ways to move them because a lot of these manufacturers
now they're going The sales have been okay, but gas
as of right now still rules. And for me, I
love hybrids. If I'm buying a car right now, this
is means personally, hybrid is the way to go. Not
(53:56):
a plug in hybrid, but a real hybrid that's gonna
have regenerative branking. It's going to give you many more
miles you know, anywhere. But you're thirty forty fifty sixty
miles per gallon with hybrid cars. So I read when
I read the headline about, you know, about the whole
uber thing four thousand hours, I'm like, is this an
EV thing? Is it an uber thing? I mean, yeah,
I mean, it's it's pretty much an uber thing the
(54:17):
way I've deduced it because listen, look at look at Amazon. Amazon,
their fleet of trucks as you see rolling around, they're electric.
It's electric, and it's pretty cool. I dig it.
Speaker 2 (54:29):
To me.
Speaker 4 (54:30):
I don't want to say I don't care yay, green, yay.
I want to preserve our atmosphere. But as long as
they get my package delivered to me and it's reliable,
let's go. EV gas, diesel, whatever it is, let's let's go.
But for me, I'm not an EV guy. I love EV's,
(54:52):
but I'm not going through it again. If you are
a long time it seems every week I talk about
this when I review EV's or talk about it. Our
current battery charging infrastructure in the United States, it's just
not there. I don't want to sit at a battery
charger when I'm driving between Houston, Dallas, Dallas, Austin or
whatever like that and sit there for an hour hopefully waiting,
(55:12):
hopefully not even waiting for an open charging bait to
open up, even if I just pull in and you know,
wait forty minutes or so to get ninety percent charge.
I have range anxiety. It's it's as simple as that.
So that's how I read it. But anyway, if you
do want to listen to a lot of the other
reviews what I have about vehicles, listen. It's called the
High Tech Texan Show. I started out twenty three years ago.
(55:34):
I started talking about computers, started talking about laptops. Then
we started talking about televisions because in the year two
thousand and two thousand and one, we went to digital TVs,
which are high definition TVs, and I started saying, Hey,
do you want plasma, do you want led? Yeah? Now
we got more and more options like that. Then we
got into phone cell phones because it was what two
(55:54):
thousand and six, two thousand and seven, the iPhone came out,
and that was a game changer, one hundred percent was
Now there's a new phone release probably every other week
from some manufacture. Not iPhone only once a year, but Android.
They're popping out from many, many, many mini companies, and
I get sent a mini. Matter of fact, I am
reviewing right now. Am I allowed to actually say that
I am actually reviewing the one plus fifteen?
Speaker 3 (56:16):
Oops?
Speaker 4 (56:16):
Can't say anything about it embargo. I think I hopefully
ant gonna say I'm actually reviewing it, but I can't
say anything else. One plus I'd like that company, Chinese company,
good phone. I'm just from the top level. I'm not
talking about this specific one because they're gonna kill me.
They have watches, they have everything. They're androids. I've been
pretty much a fan of the one plus one, so
I'm point is. I review a lot of that stuff,
(56:38):
and then I started reviewing cars, and fifteen years later
I'm a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association. Fifteen
years later, I review a weekly vehicle and I have
a thousand of them under my belt. And you can
go to Spotify, iHeartRadio, and just look for a podcast
that says high Tech Textan and that's specifically where I
put my you know, eight to ten minute reviews of vehicles.
(56:59):
And if you do, if you are in the market
for a vehicle, moor than happy to you pop me
an email. I'll go to high Tech Textan dot com.
There's my email on there, Michael. I'm looking for a
sports car. I'm looking from minivan. I've got opinions on
those not paid by anybody. This is not a dealership.
I'm not trying to push anything. I don't make once
red scent sadly off of my automobile content. I'm just
(57:20):
gonna give you what I think about, what I feel about.
But if you do want my opinion on something you
haven't heard, I do know people in the manufacturing industry
of vehicles, and I could probably request that vehicle so
I can drive it, take some pictures, and I can
let you know it's up. That's how I roll over
here a very interactive radio show. I will be driving
a vehicle up up to round Top at about a
(57:41):
week or so because there is a film festival. Look
at me, I should be I should I'm a radio
television film major. I should be entering a film in
all these film festivals. Alas I'm not. I'm just gonna
go as a participant. If you like Roundtop, which is
a really cute city not far from Houston. Stand by,
We're gonna tell a little bit more how to get
tickets on that age right here, as we continue the
(58:03):
High Tech Texan Show. As we continue the very long
(58:29):
running High Tech Texan Show, Michael Garfield is the name
we do. Thank you wherever you are listening, whether you
are in Texas, Houston, Dallas, A Antonio, Austin or on
that iHeartRadio app. If you're not in Texas, get here
as fast as you can. It's great state. Man, there's
no state income tax. I've talked about that for twenty
plus years. First part of November right now looking at
the counter, this is my favorite part of the year.
(58:50):
Holiday season, so many fun things to do. We cross
our fingers. Is going to get relatively cooler in Texas,
and I always talk about travel. I got a few
trips around this great state coming up. I'm actually going
to be next week in Roundtop, which is just outside
of the Houston area, not far out for all of
you people who have no clue where. Roundtop is exciting,
(59:13):
fun little town. I'm going specifically, not the shop, because
I think I missed the shopping, but there is a
film festival, and I really you know, obviously, as a
radio television film major, which I am many years ago
from the University of Texas, I've always wanted to be
a filmmaker. I've always wanted to enter my film and
something to win an award. Alas I have not done it,
nor will I ever. So I get to go to
(59:34):
watch films and I'm gonna go to the I think
it's the second annual Roundtop Film Festival. I wanted to
find a little bit more information about that, so I'm
gonna spend a few minutes talking to one of the
co founders of the Roundtop Film Festival. Her name is
Shanna Shannon. She joins me, Shanna, are you an RTF
major like me? Have you ever won an Oscar some
(59:55):
award like that?
Speaker 3 (59:57):
Now, I'm just like you.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
My daughter all in the film she's my co founder.
But for me, it's watching the movies and enjoying all
the hype.
Speaker 4 (01:00:06):
Okay, well look, I'm just gonna call myself a loser.
At least you've done something in the industry of creating
a really big film festival, which is very fun. This
is only in its second year. Tell us how the
you know, the idea started and more about the Round
Time Films Festival.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Yeah, we're in our second year. Last year was fantastic,
by the way, so we're so happy to be returning.
We started at my daughter and I just on a whim. Really,
we were thinking we wanted to do something to give
back to the community. We love Roundtop. It's been a
home away from home for us. For about twenty years now,
(01:00:44):
so she grew up going there and her being in film.
Skylar Shannon she my daughter, she's in films. She knows
how hard it is for filmmakers to get their films
out to be viewed and seen. So we thought, what
better thing to bring to Roundtop but a film festival.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
It may makes sense. It's a quaint fun town and
there's so many things to do, you know, on any
given weekend, whether they have you know, shops, and it's
neat that you're able to spotlight it in this part
of the time of the year. Obviously with this Roundtop
ten Film Festival. You know, there seems to be if
you if you see these festivals, and I don't care
if it's you know, Red Verds out here in Sundance
or whatever, there always is some sort of a mission.
(01:01:23):
I mean, is there is there something a message behind
what you're doing with the Roundtop Film Festival.
Speaker 3 (01:01:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Our mission is we really want to you know, bring
some creativity, ignite that creativity and people, encourage the learning,
and just provide an ever a magical experience for our
guests that come. We want to leave the audience inspired
and we want to curate a program that you know,
speaks to all audiences.
Speaker 4 (01:01:49):
We want.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
The best films from around the world, you know that
create open dialogue, appreciation for film, and just celebrate the
diverse voices that filmmakers actually.
Speaker 4 (01:02:02):
Have with Sherianna Shannon. She is the co founder of
the Roundtop Film Festival, which is happening next weekend, which
is No. Number six through ninth. We'll give you more
details on that. So you talked about international, so they
don't have to be a Texas based, Texas focused film.
You're having films from all over the place, right.
Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
We are we are We definitely honor our roots that
we love Texas. We do a Texas and throwback, which
this year it's going to be the only thrill and
we're doing it in memory of Diane Keaton. She filmed
that here in nineteen ninety seven and she was a
favorite of mine. So I'm miss getting a little bit
(01:02:41):
teary up. It's a joy to have that showing. And
I think one of her co partners in the film,
another actor, is actually going to send in a video
clip in memory of hers. So we're super excited about
that throwback that was filmed in Texas. We have a
panel that's all about filmmaking in Texas and we're super
(01:03:04):
excited about that. We have several Texans coming and it's
really talking anything from location to incentives in Texas now
because you know, we've passed that tax incentive. It's been
really helpful and it's trying a lot of filmmakers to
Texas and so it will give you know, those filmmakers
(01:03:24):
a tool to bring their films to life in Texas.
And then we have a whole Texas short block that's
really fun and exciting. So Texas filmmakers submitted their shorts
and we have a block dedicated to them.
Speaker 4 (01:03:39):
I mean, you see, I love that obviously. I'm my
Moniker is the high tech Texan and you know I'm
from Texas and all my life. It's just six generation now.
The fact is we can spot like Texas and what's
happening with the incentives. I mean, I think more, you know, films,
TV shows, they should be shot over here. So it's
you know, it's phenomenal that you're able to spot like this.
As we continue with Shanna Shannon, the co founder of
(01:04:01):
the upcoming Round Top Film Festival, talk about if you
could some of the other the other films that will
be shown and maybe the lineup in terms of you know,
sometimes film festivals they have documentaries, they have narrative stores,
they have they have shorts, the whole gamut. Is this
what we can expect there?
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Absolutely, we have a diverse mix of narrative features. We
have documentaries, we have shorts, we have panels, we have
special guests. Some of our feature films include let's see here.
We have Adult Children, which is going to be our
opening night feature, and it's phenomenal. It's kind of a
(01:04:39):
dramedy about sheltered team that seeks wisdom from his dysfunctional
siblings and realizes that we're all trying to figure.
Speaker 3 (01:04:48):
Out how to be adults.
Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
So it should be a fun, family, you know, friendly
movie for opening night.
Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
We're super excited about it.
Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
Tommy Sadowski is actually coming down, so there will be
a Q and A with him afterwards, and he will
receive an award, the Lone Star Award. He's actually a
native Texan born in Brian Kotin Station. So that's our kickoff,
and then we have great and features throughout the weekend. Sunday,
(01:05:17):
we have Netflix Jay Kelly which won't be out in
theaters till December, so we're super excited to close out
our program with that film. We have panels panning from
stunts to fashion and film, to veterans in film and
so on, so we have a lot of panels. And
(01:05:39):
then we have a rising Star Showcase, which is really
fun to have. It's all the talent that's going to
be making big waves and are starting to get recognized
in the industry. So we're looking forward to having those
rising stars with us. And we have let's see, I
think it's Greg Tarzan and Davis is going to be
(01:06:02):
with us for that, yes, and we have several others
come in.
Speaker 4 (01:06:10):
I need to get my agent on there, so yeah,
I got an agent. You know, don't you don't do
too much. But listen now, I'm not too old to
be a rising star man. Maybe let's let's find a
deal for me.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
Come on, exactly, you need to get down here. We'll
find a deal for you.
Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
Some other rising stars in the mixes Paulina Chavez and
she is actually on land Meet the love interest, so
that's really fun. Jacob Bloughland and Landman as well. And
moderating this is Richard Brobis Show. He's out of Austin
and he's phenomenal. He's, you know, a teacher and actor,
(01:06:46):
teachers at south West and South Texas State and was
a Juliard teacher as well, so we're really excited to
have him. He did was he nominated for carl and
Paradise Seated Boyhood Hit Me in just several movies that
people will recognize. And then we have Charlie Rowe, and
(01:07:07):
Charlie Rowe is in Never Let Me Go, Vanity, their
rocket Man, Slow Horses so and he's in the new
film Jay Kelly, which we will be showing Sunday at
close Out.
Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
So we're excited to have these great stars.
Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
That's good. Any world premieres at the festival, we do.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Have a world premiere, so The Melody Maids is actually
our world premiere and they are out of Beaumont, Texas.
They started back in nineteen twenty three and they would
go sing to the veterans around the state in the
hospitals or to the camps, and it got so big.
These were high school girls. It got so big that
(01:07:51):
they started traveling all over to bring a little joy
to the beck's lives.
Speaker 3 (01:07:57):
And so that was, it's going to be really special.
We actually have some of them coming.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Like I said, they're from nineteen forty two to nineteen
seventy two, so some of them that are coming or
well up there in their eighties and nineties, and they
will be doing a little performance on our front step
at the end of the movie.
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
So we're super excited about that.
Speaker 4 (01:08:20):
And lots going on, which is just let's let's do this.
Let's kind of up as we're running out of time
over I want to make sure that people can get passes.
I guess you can pre buy them too. So if
anybody wants information they want to go to the Roundtop
Film Festival November sixth through ninth, Where what's the information
the tickets and where can they get them?
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
You want to get to www dot roundtopfilmfest dot org
and you can get silver screen passes for four hundred
dollars and that's for the entire weekend. If you want
to come Thursday and stay through Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:08:54):

things that I wasn't able to mention that www dot
roundtopfilmfest dot org.
Speaker 3 (01:09:32):

coming week. And I look forward to hang in with you.
