you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the
iHeartRadio add now you're high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
What a week this was? As we kick off the
first full week of November. Michael Garfield, as that big
booming boy, said, this is called the high Tech Texan Show.
Easily my busiest three months of the year, leading all
the way through January's Consumer Electronics Show. That means we
have open phone lines, my mail is open, my email

(01:07):
is open. I got questions and answers because it is holiday. See,
isn't holiday season technically? I mean when does holiday season
kick off? I'm gonnaell you when holiday season kicked off.
It's either when you hear your first holiday song or
you see your first holiday music. I have yet to
hear a holiday song. However, just a few days ago,

(01:30):
I think it was Wednesday night. I'm prepping for my show.
I'm prepping for my TV stuff what I'm doing, and
I had the TV on. There's no football on. Obviously
there's basketball. I didn't care about it. I'm flipping around.
Sure enough, I land on free Form. I land on
free Form and what is on Home Alone? Followed by

(01:51):
Home Alone? Two Ladies and Gentlemen. According to Michael Garfield,
Holida Day season has be gone. Let's part two? Why
not three four six twenty nine text? And that's the
phone number three four six two nine eight three nine
two six. That's how you get me. Big shout out
to the boys on the other side of the glass
over there pushing buttons up, hopefully keeping me on all

(02:14):
of the iHeart radio, talk radio terrestrial stations across Texas.
Got Dallas, what's going on? Talk radio eleven ninety, news
radio twelve hundred, WOAI, that big stick in San Antonio,
and of course the flag KPRC nine fifty nine to
five oh in Houston, Texas. Twenty three years. I have
been doing this, which means for almost a quarter of

(02:36):
a century, I've been celebrating Christmas and Honika and all
your little Thanksgiving in holiday birthdays, telling you what to get,
but also telling you what not to get. Is there
a product that you're thinking of, because that's what I do.
I'm not talking politics because let me help you out.
I don't care. I don't understand. There's other people who

(02:58):
are better qualified and probably make all lot more money
than me, probably also have to have a security team
after they get off the radio. Ah ah, I ain't made.
I talk sports a little. It's not a true sports show.
But I'm a consumer lifestyle guy, which means you know, yes,
I review technology products, and yes, I'm gonna talk about
what is happening with the blackout between YouTube TV and Disney. Yes,

(03:19):
I'm going to talk about a drone that I've absolutely
fell in love with. Yes, I'm gonna talk about an
e bike that's right, an e bike electric motorbike that
I've been playing with. These are some of the gifts
that you may like. You may consider for yourself. You
may consider giving them to one another. You may consider like, gosh,
the guy's been on radio for twenty five years, give
me advice. Maybe we need to get Michael something. Well,

(03:40):
here's something you can't get me. Halloween is over. Do
you have any Reese's left? I am your boy, and
it's it's actually funny, you know. You know I make
jokes because reeseus it's the greatest candy in the world period. Okay, well,
this is my show and I can actually say that.
And I you know, if you have any looked over
Reesus bringing me, I'm not kidding. People have actually brought

(04:01):
me and sent me their reces, not the Raess pieces.
I don't even give it. It's nice. Technically I don't
need more, but you know, you can freeze them, and
I can make these babies last easily to Valentine's Day. Hell,
I could probably push it to actually, you know, certainly
next summer. So it just right to me in courtesy
of your your local radio station, and you'll get to

(04:22):
me high tech texts and spell the whole thing out.
H I G H T E H T e x
a n dot com high tech text and on Instagram,
should you not be blocked? I'm on X and I'm
not on TikTok and I'm not on I'm not on snapchat.
You know it's somebody asked me, somebody mentioned the word snapchat,
and I had to take a beat. I had to

(04:42):
take a beat, and I'm like Snapchat. Is that still
a thing. Well, listen with a due respect, it's you
know my age, you know my kids, I believe have Snapchat.
I can mention TikTok because TikTok is always in the
news or people sending me links to TikTok. No one
around me mentioned Snapchat that I was talking to her friend.

(05:02):
She says, Oh, yeah, my daughter's are on Snapchat, and
and she you know, and and and she my friend
actually has like what six followers on Snapchat. I'm like,
who is this chat? Kids? You probably use Snapchat? Sorry
about that. I am not on snap I am not
on TikTok. I am on X, I am on Is
that blue Sky? Remember? Did I did it? Was I
the guy last year said blue Sky? Is the is

(05:23):
finally going to be the Twitter killer? Maybe not so
much threads. I'm on threads high tech text And I'm
just telling you how it to reach me, because when
I started this show twenty five years ago, twenty three
years ago, there was one. There was two ways to
reach me. You can call the phone number, all right,
three four six, twenty nine texts and the number is changed.
That's the that's a relatively new number. But you can

(05:43):
call and you we could put you on the air,
but you can also Email was not really around. I
mean it was around, but no one really cared. But
it was snail mail. People used to write email to
my to my radio station in Houston, my flagship, and uh,
it wasn't too kind it it wasn't too kind. I
actually got hate mail, not getting not I really don't

(06:04):
have thick enough skin de actually be in this business.
But I'm sucking up a quarter of situat later. Now
you have many ways. Do you ask me questions? Should
you do? Not want to call me and put your
voice on the radio so you know some of the
things that I am talking about. But we are going
to start with this because I'm gonna a ton of
questions about streaming. I talk a lot about streaming. I
tell you good deals when they're streaming, because streaming I

(06:26):
have covered obviously, it's television and television. I remember remeck
it one of the first things twenty plus years ago,
telling you and recommending you about high definition TVs when
digital TVs became the mandate by the FCC. Do you
want an LED? Do you want a plasma? All right?
And now there are different ways to watch TV. You
don't need the big rabbit ears. Yes, you can get
a digital TV antenna which gets you free over the

(06:48):
air digital signals, but it ain't getting your ESPN. It
ain't getting in Disney, but it will get you ABC.
And here in has an issue and I'm just gonna
tease it right now because we're about a minute out
of the break. If you haven't been bothered that the
fact that Disney channels from ABC to ESPN, to ESPN

(07:10):
two to all the other. The thing that ABC has
that they have not been pulled off of YouTube TV,
not YouTube YouTube TV. The subscription, the subscription virtual network
multiple virtual network operator in BNO that you pay eighty
three dollars a month for. They are in a knockdown,

(07:32):
drag out battle. ESPN wants more money per subscriber from
YouTube TV subscribers, which are ten million people strong. ESPN
is already getting fifteen dollars or so from YouTube TV.
Because ESPN has great programming, they have to license sports.

(07:54):
It's expensive to put that to fund. So whatever you pay,
you pay eighty three dollars to YouTube, well, fifteen of
that automatically goes to ESPN. Disney networks A few dollars
to go to CNN, A few dollars go to Fox
whatever like that. You but ESPN and Disney have far
been the most expensive one. Well, guess what Disney wants more.

(08:17):
They're saying they want fifty percent more. YouTube TV really
doesn't want to do it. They don't want to pass
along the actra fifteen dollars. We already don't want to
pay eighty three dollars a month for YouTube DV. Do
you want to pay another fifteen dollars eight dollars more
than that? They don't, So YouTube DV said, app let
Disney pull their you know, all their programming off. Well,

(08:37):
it's a pissing match. It's back and forth. You missed
a lot of football games. And really it's mostly about sports.
People can't watch esp they can't watch Monday Night Football,
which is on ESPN. They can't watch a lot of
the NBA games which are shown on ESPN. Where does
it stand? When is it going to end? But more importantly,
I will tease you with this, if you are affected
and you haven't had Disney or ESPN or ABC past

(09:00):
I don't know week week and a half that's been
out because you do have YouTube TV, I'm gonna give
you some tips on other ways to watch all the
Disney and ABC programming coming up on the high Tech
Texans ship. I am Michael Garfield, Do not go Anywhere,

(09:39):
continuing the awesome sexy programming that you hear every weekend.
Should you listen to Restrily across Texas? Are also the
iHeartRadio app or the podcast after we finish this live
show more Plausibly live show my boys callum and will
they put it on the iHeartRadio podcast. He just searched
for high Tech Texan spelled the whole thing out and
you can hear this and listen to it at your

(10:00):
heart's content. Michael Garfield is my name. I haven't talked
to you about my travels. I'm gonna get back to
the YouTube TV Blackouur Disney. I got to tell you
the latest update and some workarounds. Got back from a
phenomenal trip last weekend. If you do follow me on
social media, I was playing in snow and hiking up
and down mountains of Canada. My first you for this.

(10:22):
I travel the world. People know I'm on the go man.
I have never spent time in Canada until this past weekend,
I was in vamp Canada, three of my best friends
hiking up mountains. It was a blast. I will actually
kind of give you the play by play some of
the lot of the technology that I packed, including a

(10:43):
drone that I could not use and I'm not happy
about that. Customs TSA, the apps for the airlines. I'm
going to give you a little travel advice, as travel
is getting quite hairy here in the United States. Phone
number here. If you have questions you're deciding on you
seeing some early Black Friday sales, maybe I can talk
to you off the ledge, give you some other advice,

(11:04):
make things a little cheaper for you. Three four six
twenty nine, Texan. Now back to segment one. YouTube TV, Disney, ESPN,
ABC in a pissing match. It doesn't look like Disney
owned channels will be returning to YouTube TV anytime as soon.

(11:24):
I'll say it again. The Walt Disney Company hold its
channels from YouTube TV. YouTube TV. People not YouTube. There
is a service called YouTube. It's confusing. YouTube is the
rabbit hole that you can go into at three in
the morning when you look on your phone with all
the you know the songs and you know people doing dances.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
No.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
No. YouTube TV is a pay service. Instead of getting
Comcast Xfinity, instead of getting direct TV, you can get
YouTube tv eighty three dollars a month, hundreds of channels. Okay,
it's actually good, has ten million subscribers. But Disney pulled
all it's It's channels from YouTube TV midnight October thirtieth,

(12:03):
just over week now because the two companies fail to
reach new terms on their latest carriage agreement and it's
showing no signs of a resolution. Big Sporting Events is
where the rubber meets the road because these channels that
are blacked out college football on Saturdays, ESPN all day.

(12:26):
I wake up every morning for Saturdays. I don't know
for almost a generation now watching college game day. By
the way, they are in Lubbock, Texas this weekend. Shout
out to your Red Raider fans. If you have YouTube TV,
you can't watch it because ESPN is not being carried
right now. ABC. You can't watch Monday Night Football ESPN

(12:47):
Monday Night Football. Nope, Ah, it's a game they're playing.
YouTube TV. They officially rebuffed the Disney's request for a
twenty four hour restoration of its channels, and they proposed
instead that Disney reactivate the feeds for ABC and ESPN
while the negotiations continue. You don't know who to believe.

(13:09):
I have a thought of who to believe in, who
not to believe. I know and pretty much believe because
I follow this. I remember taking a class when I
went to the University of Texas and I'm a radiotellision
film major, and back then it was over the air
TV and we're going to go back to the eighties,
but also cable. It was in escent. Cable was relatively new,

(13:32):
and we actually went in my one of my radiotosion
film classes in Austin, we went to the one of
the cable it's called head Ends. It's a building where
you know in there they serve neighborhoods, they serve blocks,
they serve certain parts of the cities. And we saw
how it's work, how the signals are delivered, how it
then goes to the cable, how they have to lay

(13:52):
the cable to the houses, and then they the whole thing.
And I remember carriage fees. They're the FCC back the day,
they have a rule they instated called must carry. They're
called the FCC must Carry rules, and you must carry
the over the air networks. The ABC's, the CBS's Fox
was Fox was not even a channel back then, PBS

(14:15):
is and whatever those are must carries. Okay, I go
back to learn how so I understand this carriage rule stuff,
and it's getting crazier. So Disney is again, go back
and listen to what I said in the first segment.
Disney already commands the highest per subscriber fee in any
cable network because ESPN has to pay for all of

(14:38):
the licensings for all the football games, all the college
football games. I mean, they're not going to pay for themselves.
So what they do is they go to YouTube TV
and direct TV and Comcast in Infinity and they say, hey,
for the right, for the right for you to carry
our content. Remember, content is king. That's why you listen

(14:58):
to me for the ESPN. All the programming is content. Okay,
Comcast Okay, YouTube TV okay, Direct TV. We're giving you
this content, Well, you better pay us for us. And
so what they do is they negotiate a fee each month,
a rate right now YouTube pays Disney slash ESPN about

(15:18):
I believe fifteen dollars a month per every single subscriber.
YouTube TV alone has ten million subscribers. You figure out
how much that is. Okay, and that's just even just
a little earmark of Disney's net worth because they have
got you know, the movies, the TV, the TV studios,
They've got the magic parks and the theme parks everything. Okay,

(15:41):
Disney wants more money. Disney is in a listen. I
like Disney. I'm a Bob Iger fan, all right, he's
the president CEO of Disney. I've met Bob Biger a
few times. His kid and my kid were in the
same fraternity and a few years ago at ut also,
good dude, I really do. I like them. Disney is
really holding YouTube TV hostage right now to some extent,

(16:01):
and they're doing a pr campaign to actually make YouTube
TV look bad Disney, all of the Disney I mean,
call your cable provider YouTube TV. You need to switch
from YouTube TV. Of course, they want you to switch
because they want you to watch their content. If you
can't get it on YouTube TV, you can get somewhere else.
That's it. That's the explanation. What do you do? How

(16:22):
do you get around it? Well, I'll tell you right now.
For all you sports fans who do have YouTube TV
and you can't watch your ESPN. One of the cheapest
ways to watch ESPN is with a Sling day pass
for just five bucks aday. And this is not a commercial.
I'm just telling you five bucks a day. You can
tune in to any and all ESPN programming, no other commitments,

(16:43):
one day. They're selling you a one day pass on Sling.
Just go Google Sling day Pass. If you want a
full switch from YouTube TV, Disney wants you to switch
to Hulu plus Live TV. Wonder why let me think
about that. Oh yeah, Hulu is owned by Disney. That's
another one of the NBA o's the end of the
multiple virtual network operators Direct TV. You can switch to Fubo,

(17:08):
you can switch to None of this is free. They're
gonna charge you. They're gonna charge you. But the easiest
way Saturday Sunday, if you're actually Sunday doesn't have a
lot of ESPN programming just because it's Fox, CBS and
nah in NBC. But if you're listening on Saturday right
now and you want to watch your Aggie's play Missouri,

(17:28):
if you want to watch Texas Tech play, you can
go to Sling Sling day and for five bucks per
day you can watch it. Okay, there you go. There's
a nice little answer for you. For thirty dollars. Thirty dollars,
you can get the ESPN Unlimited package. What that does
on an app. You can get ESPN, ESPN two, ESPN

(17:49):
U SEC Network, ESPN News, ESPN Departed this plus you
can get ABC, ESPN plus, ESPN three yeses, I mean everything.
Thirty bucks a month. Maybe that's ESPN. Maybe that's Disney's
in game of what they're doing right now. But you
need to take a step back figure out what we're doing.

(18:13):
I've heard so many people going, I'm so mad at
YouTube TV. I'm canceling. It's really not YouTube TV's fault.
This is the way I see it. I am not
being paid by YouTube TV. I'm not being paid by Disney.
I'm looking at both sides these things, these carriage disagreements
happen several times per year. Sometimes you see a scroll
come across CBS. All right, if you're in Houston, CBS

(18:35):
is on by Tegna. Well, Tegna has about what seventy
eighty ninety TV stations across the country. Tegna gets in
a shouting match with with YouTube TV with direct TV
and here comes the scroll if we're drawing directed by
the situation, but we may go off air. This happens
on a regular basis. This is this one is so loud.
It's because it is YouTube TV, which is one of

(18:58):
the best and one of the largest TV signal providers,
all right, and also because it's sports, because ESPN is
the king when it comes to that. Does anybody have
any questions? Three four six twenty nine Texan t e
X A N. I think we're done coming back. It's
travel time? Are you Canadians? And gotta tell you I

(19:20):
like your country? I really do. Coming up, I'm a
high tech textan.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
Show Michael Garfield, high Tech text and Bottom of the

(19:50):
Hour number one.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
I do thank you for tu milling in after twenty
three years. It is the holiday shopping season. I will
more than happy to take your phone calls here because
it is a plausibly live radio sho numbers three four
six twenty nine. Texts in the three four six two
nine eight three nine two six. If for some reason,
the boys over there, guys, are you sleeping? Sometimes they

(20:11):
just they just follow, are they They may be listening
to holiday music on the other side of the glass.
I don't know, Colum, Well wake up. If for some
reason they just let it go to voicemail, leave a voicemail,
we do have the right to play it. Then I
will answer your questions. And if not, you can go
to high Tech Texts at h I G H T
E h T e X an high tech texting dot com.
You'll see my email. You can post something on my

(20:31):
ex account and ask me questions I had I somebody
had said it is it's hunting season, and I'm not
going to correct them. But my show airs in several
cities across Texas. It it is. It can be hunting season.
It may not be hunting season because if you don't know.
And I'm the biggest hunter, even though I mean, I

(20:52):
really do enjoy, you know, shooting guns and skeets and
going to you know, gun ranges. I have my concealed
and gun license and then I'm eagle scout. I'm properly trained.
I don't do a ton of hunting, big game hunting,
dove hunt hunting. However, I'm going to start doing more.
There's three zones in Texas when it comes to hunting,

(21:13):
or let's just say dove hunting will use this one.
There's a north zone, a central zone, and a south zone.
I would say Houston, San Antonio. I know I'm in
those markets. I mean right on the border of the
central in the south, Dallas here on the border of
the north in the central. So you need to check
your times and check your dates. But a lot of
hunting going and and I talk about this because I

(21:34):
was just at my Big Easy Ranch, Big Easy Range.
It's in Columbus, Texas. And then you know, I talking
about this more and more because I'm hanging out there
more and more. It is a about two thousand acres.
It's Columbus, Texas, right between Houston and Austin. I ten
and then right work you know, kind of goes north
towards Highway seventy one. It is, it's a it's two

(21:56):
thousand acres. It's a mecca. It is the number one
rated private golf course in the state of Texas. It's
called the Covey. But there's also there's a lot of
hunting and you can I mean there's guides that actually
I mean listen, they can go fly fishing. They have
fishing right there on site. They got skeet shooting, they
got bird dogs, they got hunting, and so I need
I need to start doing that. But anyway, I was

(22:17):
out I'm hanging out there. I'm gonna be once I
finished the show. I'm gonna be out there this week.
And it's private. But if you know a guest, HI,
how you doing, you can get out there. But you
should look to check out Big Easy ranch dot com.
It is the lodge, the food they get like seven
executive chefs. It is perfect. But they are and i'm

(22:38):
this level yet they're there's they're building homes out there.
They're selling lots and you can build your own home
and it's really for like your second home. This is
the type of people. I have no clue why they
they let me join, said, this is the type of
people because you know, I have I have one home.
I'm not ready for the second home yet. But they're
massive and they're expansive and you can overlook these beautiful

(22:58):
hills and and it's it's just it's so many fun
things to do. But anyway, for all you hunters out there,
for you golfers out there, for your fishers out there,
go to Big Easy ranch dot com. And if you
see me out there, we'll play golf. I mean, I'm
just I love actually they have they have a par three,
a nine hole par three course. Love it eighty HD
golf at its bells manicured perfection. So a big shout

(23:22):
out to U, to Billy, Nicole, Ricky and everybody who
is out there. And if it's nice, because I come
out there and people come up, Hey, I know who
you are. I'm like, yeah, why don't you buy me beer?
I'll tell you stories about how about drones? Which I
will soon getting back to the show. It's called the
the The High Tech textan show. I was not there
last weekend because I was in Canada. It is travel

(23:46):
time and I left. So do I go to I
never spend time in Canada. I think one time I
connected in Toronto before I went to Newfoundland a few
years ago. But I UH, three of my best friends
and I packed up and we went to We flew
to Calgary and then we drove about thirty eight now
about an hour to bamp and we did some hiking

(24:10):
and I like hiking. It was one of the most beautiful,
spectacular things I've ever done. If anybody anybody been to
BAMF anybody been Canadians? Eh, hey, sorry about that.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
It was beautiful love to hear from you. Three four six,
two nine eight three nine six. I probably should have
told you I was going to Canada a few weeks
because you couldn't give me places to go and things
to do. I was too busy hiking ten miles up
eight thousand feet of Lake Louise. Which if you, if
you are my social media friend on high Tech Texan,
take a look at some of the pictures that I posted.

(24:42):
Number one, I was playing with a new camera. I
was playing with the brand new one plus fifteen. It's
a Chinese camera with just I can't I'm still in
d embargo. I really can't use the word great, horrible,
crappy or anything. Just go look at the pictures, and
I think you can come up with superlatives, actually adjective yourself.
I was playing it, so do I The pictures on there,

(25:04):
they are that colorful. Lake Louise has this color of
a zool blue that it's like, there's no way it
was just blast, But Canada was fun. Happened to be
there Game six and Game seven of the World Series
and don't. You're like, who cares?

Speaker 4 (25:23):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Canada care because it was the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto,
the whole country of Canada stands behind the Blue Jays
because it's their only Major League baseball team, right. So
we goes to Game seven and my buddies and I Saturday,
we absolutely needed to go to a sports bar. We
wanted to experience it, and we were rooting for the

(25:45):
Blue Jays. I was rooting for the Blue Jays because, yeah,
George Springer, former ass show good due, Well, he's on
the Blue Jays now. But we're in Canada, We're rooting
for the home team. We're in a sports bar Saturday night,
Game seven, and I cannot tell you the last time
I've watched a full nine inning game of baseball. I

(26:08):
do not have the mental capacity. I got Shpilkey's, I
got ADHD. I just can't do it. And I did
not that night watch nine innings. I watched freaking eleven
innings plus of baseball. It was the most incredible Game
seven game, and within two different times than ninth inning,
bottom of the top of the hand, bottom of the night,

(26:28):
Toronto was on the edge of winning. They were like
two outs away. Nope, didn't get it done. I mean,
the difference between Canadians and Americans when it comes to sports,
I'll tell you real simply, and this is just anecdotally
what I noticed in America. And you're rooting for your team,
I'm rooting for my Longhorns. I'm rooting for my Cowboys.
And something goes wrong and they screw it up or

(26:49):
a bad play happens, there are some expletives. Okay, there's
some s bombs, some f bombs. There's just what is
going that's what happens. And you're in a sports bar,
or you're at a state it's like holy or and
there's a a lot of that stuff going on. Canadians,
at least the ones I was around at this sports

(27:10):
bar and there were they were in mass I mean
there were. There was well over one hundred and fifty
people in this sports bar and it was really tight
knit day. It was like a pop, okay, an error
or they got an out or the bottom of the
inning swept and then it goes to dextra innings. Not
one word there was, there was no expetis, there was
not a word. It was silence. It was silence. Every

(27:35):
Canadian I met was nice one night. I had I
had my burn orange Texas shirt on. Oh, they were
coming up eight, you're from Texas. I like tech. One dude.
One Canadian had a long worn hat on. I mean,
we're bonded over the thing. It is neither here nor Canada,
where you've been all my life. How come I haven't
men hanging out of there? It was fun And by
the way, luckily we left Wednesday of a week ago,

(27:57):
all before this Michige gosp with the TSA happened. So
I'm in we're in Canada, and then we're flying back
to Houston. We're flying back to the United States, and
I'm reading these reports of oh my gosh, Hobby Airport,
bush In or con Nila Airport. There are three hour
long lines for TSA, which there were. We didn't have
to worry about it because we're flying in. It is

(28:19):
so easy to fly out of Canada. Let me help
you out about the Calgary Airport. Okay, Calgary, if you're listening,
you need to hire me as your spokesperson as an American. Okay.
It is the quietest airport, the least hassle. It was
the most calming airport I've ever been into. All right,
I'm not serious. It wasn't that I was traveling on

(28:41):
a Sunday, which it should have been busy. It was quiet.
Everything's left on time. And then if you're flying back
to America, you actually go through US customs in Canada.
So instead of typically flying from around the world, you
fly back into the United States. Then you got to
get off the airplane and then you got to go
through US Customs, which the lines. Then you got to

(29:01):
get your your bags. Ah no, you clear US customs
in Canada. It's it could be my new favorite country.
Love you Canada. Shout out to United Airlines. Their app
is so simple. I was on United Airlines test flight
what is it, less than a month ago, to test
off the new Starlink, which is their high speed WiFi service,

(29:23):
which I loved. You go look at go to high
tech textan dot com and you can see my TV
my TV segment that I did. But this either my
neither of my flights actually had Starlink. It had slow
going eight dollars per you know, Wi Fi for the
entire flight. Whatever. But the point is I was a
planner with this United app and uh, I don't fly United,
I mean I flow United. Sal I'm a Southwest guy,
but United Man their app is strong. It tracked my

(29:46):
bags for me coming back. When I got my bag
at the bush in Or Continent Airport. I was watching
my app and it said bags were moved off the plane.
Bags just hit the little turnstile bag is. It's pretty cool.
So they really did a really nice job. That's my
travel assessment because I am the high traveling Texan. One
more segment this coming hour. Do we go e bike

(30:12):
or do we go drone? I don't know, but I
will give you my review on one of those in
the next six minutes. When we come back. Don't go anywhere.

Speaker 5 (30:20):
It's Michael Garfield.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
We welcome, You're back. Michael Garfield is the name of
the long running High Tech Texan show Number one heard
many more places outside of Texas, even though we're trusty
and three of the biggest cities in the United States.
What's up Houston, San Antonio and Big d Dallas. Also iHeartRadio,
which is all around the world.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
People.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
I've been doing this promise the quarter century and I
really do trust you. I thank you so much for
trusting me me to give you the advice, consumer lifestyle,
all the fun stuff, be it tech, be it sporting gear,
be it travel, be it bourbon. I am your guy.
You can find me at high Tech Textan dot com
and also all most all of the social media at
high Tech Texan. Coming up at some point there is

(31:29):
going to be a holiday shopping season. But again, my
job is to play with and test and give you
my thoughts on things. You can also see me on
Fox seven and Austin, Great Day Houston and a lot
of the other TV stations across big, big Texas. You
can find on there but one of the newer and
I've been talking about this if you listen to the show,
this is what This is probably the third time I'm

(31:51):
going to talk about it again because people do keep
asking questions. And I got two emails alone this week
about Michael. What was the name of that e bike
you've been playing around with because you seem just to
be giddy and you love it. I actually do again
the name if you're just tuning in, Thank you so much.
Wasn't familiar with his bike company, but I am familiar
with e bikes. E bikes Okay, not a bike bike.

(32:13):
It's not a swinge, not only anything like that what
I had as a kid. E bike. It's an electric
bike which has motors. It has a motor assists, so yes,
you can pedal, and you still do have to pedal
for most of things, and then it can help you,
all right. It alleviates some of the stress the stream.
The bike I've been playing with from a company called
Turn t R in Turn, the one I've been have specifically,

(32:39):
it's the I'm gonna call it. It's a Swiss Army bike,
Swiss Army Knife of bikes. It's the Vectron S ten
v E K t R O N S ten. It's
an electric bike. Oh, by the way, it folds, that's right,
it folds. It could carry a little cargo if you're

(33:00):
looking to commute some urban area, maybe transports a bit.
I've been having a blast about this well, number one,
it is solid. Did some research man, Turn is I
mean unbelievable the way they're built. They really are a
lot of integrated things fenders, lights, rack and everything. But
this particular one has a Bosh motor, very powerful Bosh

(33:24):
and we like Bosh. I review a lot of Bosh things,
but it has a Bosh performance line motor, a good
acceleration if you have hills. And again i'm in used
and there's not a lot of hills. But again we
have a lot of Austin people listening. There's a lot
of hills out there. This is one of the reasons
you probably need an eat bike to get through hills.
This one here, it's got a telescopic seat, a seat

(33:47):
post let you adjust. It doesn't matter if you're anywhere
between almost five feet up to six and a half feet,
you can, you know, get on that bike. It's got
all the accessories again, the kickstand, the integrated led lights,
it's got a chain guard. And then this, it's got
a good stiff frame. But the thing is with a
few pops of some levers the front part of it,

(34:10):
the front wheel kind of folds back to the back wheel.
And now, if you have a relatively small trunk or
small cargo space and you want to roll with this
thing somewhere, it fits easily in some sort of a trunk.
And if you've got an SUV even a small CUV
O game is on. Nothing to worry about that whatsoever.
Now it's maybe a little in the heavier side. I

(34:32):
think it's around forty eight pounds or so, depending how
small you are or if you're not that strong, it
may make it a little difficult to lift. I'm not
the I'm not strong man, but I really had no
problem doing it. The battery four hundred watt per hour battery,
it's good. And it also comes with this digital little bosh,

(34:53):
digital redoilt, so you can adjust up to I think believe,
four different levels of how much effort you want to
put into it versus how much effort the electric motor
puts in. It's kind of like an electric fund machine,
if you think about it. So you could do a
lot of peddling in Oh, by the way, have a
little motor kick in versus the other opposite side of

(35:15):
the spectrum. You could put almost all the motor and
you're barely working up a sweat, which I mean, I
didn't get this in the Deata Center. I've been playing
with it here for a little bit, a little while,
but it's still a little hot where I am. And
you know, maybe sometimes I don't love to stretch, but
I grew up with a bike, and so many of
us here, certainly in Texas in my listening audience, listen,

(35:35):
we love outdoors. And I remember I had a bananas
bike and maybe maybe it was a twin, maybe it
was a huffy, maybe it was something. But this is
a big boy bike. Now to be sure, this particular one,
it's not inexpensive. It's around thirty five hundred dollars here
in the United States, and so, you know, depending on
your mileage, if you get a sale or something. I
don't know. I do not know if they have holiday

(35:56):
sales coming up, whatsoever. But it is easy to use.
I got it at it. I recommend this they. I
want the wonderful Peter wonderful public relations gentlemen who helped
me kind of like, you know, get this, you know
kind of test bike. I said, Hey, why don't you
just ship it to me? Well, you just don't ship
a bike something like this. You need to ship it

(36:17):
to a bike store, a bike shop, so they know
what's going on. I mean, I don't know. Listen, my
job is the high tech text and people. I can
try to fix things, put things together, but listen, when
it comes to brakes and the lights, and I want
everything tweaked, and I want the you know, the chains
to be put on. I'm sending it to a bike shop.
And so they said, I picked it up at the
bike shop. And so just walk into a bike shop

(36:38):
and see where turns are sold. Maybe it can be
shipped to you. Then you could you know, you and
a buddy, or maybe you take it to a bike
expert shop. But I would recommend that. Also, I recommend
make sure you have a helmet. Do not get on
a bike unless you have a helmet. People, But it's
I talk a lot review about electric cars. Electric bikes

(36:58):
may not be as so as prevalent in massive, big cities,
expansive cities like Houston. There's a lot of freeways in
Houston where I live, and it's very hot climate in Dallas.
I'm from Dallas originally, Yes there are bike trails, but Dallas.
If you living in North Plano and you're schlepping to downtown, downtown,
big d Dallas, yeah, you made me not want to

(37:20):
do a bike. But I'll tell you what by having
an electric bike, by charging it up and the battery stayed,
because again you're not fully using that full battery because
you're peddling assists at some point, I don't know they
last day. I'm not gonna say days weeks a month,
because yes, you can go one hundred and fifty mile
bike ride and it's going to be depleted. But no,
I go ten fifteen miles at a pop just playing

(37:40):
around on the turn vectron s ten. I mean I
probably went eight, nine, ten different times before I had
to recharge this thing again. It just plugs in. It
comes with a charger. But it's fun. And you know what,
if you want to if you really want to conserve
energy and make everything greener in the world, because there's
a lot of things about it, like your cars that

(38:00):
are they're not so green if you do this is
a bike and it's healthy. I'm an outdoors person, I'm
a runner, I'm I'm a marathoner. I'm starting to use
this bike more and more to you know, right up
to the grocery store. Certainly if as the sun's almost
coming down, when it gets a little cooler, I'm gonna
ride around it like a little ten mile ride.

Speaker 4 (38:18):
It's fun.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
It's got a little bell on the whole thing. It works.
And so for those of you who've been asking, I'll
say it again and then napping about a wats T
E r N. Just go look at turn they've got
a whole slew of them. I just happen to have
the foldable vectron S ten and I am all in
and there you go. Holiday season coming up. I don't
think I can recommend something just as fun. If you

(38:40):
want to get in shape, if you want to do something,
maybe it's a little bit more green and healthy and whatever.
Into the atmosphere. For all you hippies out there, I'm
talking to you, Austin. Check it out. Turntech Trones ten
Michael garth it is the high Tech Texting Show. And
with that we're gonna take a break. As we come
to the top of the hour, we have one more
hour open phone lines. See him lit up right now,

(39:01):
some of you do want to talk about that. By
three four six two nine eight three nine two six,
don't go anywhere.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
World, because we'll be in light.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
Is Michael Garfier Michael Garfield.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
Michael Garfields joining in the high Tech Textan.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
Michael garfil is here with a high tech text Its
to make life.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Easier, some new technology and Michael Garfield has something you
might like.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
On Michael Garfield is your high tech Texans three decades
helping you make magic with your gadgets her worldwide on
the iHeartRadio Act. Now you're high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Halfway through the high Tech Taxis Show. Hour one is done.
We got one more hour, which means we are halfway
at a happy hour of people. Of course, it's the weekend.
Of course, it's November. Of course, it's the holiday season.
Screw it, it's happy hour right now. Whatever you want
to reach for, just make sure you're not driving. Just
pop a coldy, watch a little football. If you happen
to have something other than YouTube TV. If sorry about that, No,

(40:26):
no Fox airs there in games too. Michael Garfield is
the name. If you did miss the first hour of
the show. I spent at least a segment and a
half talking about the YouTube TV, Disney ABCESPN standoff, shut down, blackoff, blackout.
It's not fun, man, it's it's I it will there

(40:47):
will come an end at some point. I'd like to
think relatively soon. I don't know. I'm a gambler, I
really am. I may go to what what's what's the
betting app that I have called Calshi. It's it's like
the poly market type of thing. You better think which
how about this which is going to end sooner open
phone lines right now, which is gonna simmit it, the

(41:08):
YouTube TV Disney dispute or the government shut down open
phone lines people three four six two nine eight three
nine two six three four six eight three nine two six.
If I was a betman, I think the YouTube TV
Disney dispute is going to be resolved a heck of
a lot easier, in a heck of a lot sooner

(41:29):
than the government shut down. But I sure hope I'm wrong,
because this government shut down this tsa the flight controllers
and that's the that's the that's the trump card that's
really getting people ticked off right now, right because you know,
we don't live in listen, I don't live in Washington, GC.
And you know there are some government workers. Without a

(41:49):
doubt it's affecting. But hey, when it affects our flights
around the country, oh no, that is not happening. So
I don't know. I'm more than happy to take bets
on which is going to be resolved, for there's other
things I love to be resolved about. You know, the
phone number you can hit me at High Tech Text
and h I G H T E C H t
e x A and High Tech Text and you can
get that on all of the most all of the

(42:12):
social media apps if you're too shy to call in,
if you want to see what is going on for
you folks listening in and around the Austin area. I
every Monday morning, I am on Austin Fox seven in
Austin about seven forty five or so, and I'm usually
do some sort of a show and tell review. This
past week I was I Last Monday, I showed off

(42:33):
the drone. I've been playing with the hover Air X
one Promax drone. Easily one of the simplest drones you're
ever gonna find. It's got pre programmed things that will
actually do a bird's eye view and a spiral and
an orbit and then the zoom in and zoom out.
I actually brought it on set and I was playing
around and around with it. It's got a four K camera,

(42:55):
did's stored, It's it's really it's really fun. So you
can actually go see what if you missed it on
Fox seven. Now you can go to high Tech textan
dot com and actually look at the TV segment this
coming week on the text this Monday, Yeah, this coming Monday,
I am actually hosting if you're in Houston, Great Day Houston.
Debora Duncan a good friend of mine. She is actually

(43:15):
taking the day off. I will be hosting the entire hour.
I will be doing non techie, non consumer lifestyle things.
But I am going to sneak in one segment where
I'm gonna do some kind of pre Black Friday holiday,
you know items I'm gonna bring on, including the beautiful
Asus Vivo Book. As us we like Asus, the Vivo

(43:36):
Book that is a laptop kind of convertible. It flips around,
it goes three hundred and sixty degrees, it is easy
to use. It's got Microsoft Windows eleven. Because Windows ten,
as we know, is kind of like slowly dying. I mean,
it's out there. There's not going to be any assistance
if you need that as of last October. But the
Asus Vivo Book, Vivo Book, great deal. It's it's it's

(44:02):
a strong, solid laptop. I'll be showing that off. Also
real link if you want some cameras, some video security cameras,
R E, O, L I, n K. And they now
just partner with best Buy. You should be able to
walk into a number of Best buys all across the
state of Texas, certainly in San Antonio, Lubbock, bowm On
if you're listening, what's up, Bemont, We love you. Real

(44:24):
link cameras, easy Wi Fi. Some of them have a
solar little panel, solar panel, set it outside, got an app.
You can control it hand zoom, go in. Certainly all
of the most the ones, the ones I've been yapping about,
under two hundred dollars and it's great. It's great for
security lights. Come on, you can talk through it. It's
a real link really one of the world's leading security

(44:46):
cameras that you can easily install yourself. I will bring
that drone on from Hover Air X one. And also
I will talk about the r o G Xbox ally,
the handheld gaming unit that I would there in New
York for the debut about a month ago. Our OG
Republic of Gaming. That is a SEUs. We love Asus again.

(45:07):
That is their gaming side of the house r OG
Xbox Alley. If you're an Xbox fan, this is a
handheld device that you can take your Xbox games not
only on your Xbox console on your TV, but you
can also play it in your hand too. So I
will have all that. I'll show and tell this coming Monday,
CBS channel eleven nine a m. Central Time, Houston on

(45:28):
Great Day Houston. And if you miss it, yes, I'll
probably put it on my website of high Tech textan
dot com. So those are the things that I am
going to be yapping about. I did play the hover
air real quickly as people are asking about these drones.
Drones have been around for many, many years. Drones used
to be very expensive. Some of them still are drones.

(45:50):
Some of the drums are very big, they're very heavy.
There are some drones that listen. Police and fire departments
utilized drones right now. Police use it for stakeouts following people.
You know, you know there's you know, some sort of
ruckus and you know, they feel it's unsafe for police
officers to go play the fly a drone up there,

(46:10):
fire there. I saw a drone it consumer Electronics show
a few years ago for fire departments. It was so heavy,
but it worked. It had very big heavy propellers, you know, rotors.
It could drag a fire hose up to two three
four stories and then squirt fire, squirt water on a fire.
I mean, cool stuff like that. Personal drones there for

(46:30):
having fun there for you know, hey, I'm running, I'm biking,
I'm skiing, following. I call them follow me drones, and
that's that's actually kind of a category. Hover Air has
a new one, Go the X one Promax. Been yappy
on it. I showed it off on the Fox TV.
I'll show it again on a great day uston this week.
But so simple, so light, it folds, it folds in

(46:52):
your pocket. It folds it and then it actually shoots
up to eight K. But anyway I got I got
shooting four kg. I got great video. You can hit
a button, it'll zoom in, zoom out. I have tried
played with drones that if I have to if listen,
my job is to actually look at something and figure
it out. If I have to read a manual instruction manual,

(47:13):
it ain't happening. It's not gonna be good for you.
I didn't have to do anything. I charge. It comes
with two batteries, put it in my pocket. I went
to Canada last week. I put it in my pocket. By
the way, I wanted to take so many drone shots.
When I was in BAMF National Park. I was just
last hour giving kudos to Canada and BAMF how great
it is. Drones are not allowed, not because of airplanes,

(47:37):
no not not the FAA. No no, no, they don't
want drones because they don't want people just like you,
literally using the content of the beautiful mountains and lakes.
I don't don't ask me why there literally was a
no drone shot and I'm like, you know what, screw it.
No one's going to see It's like, no, no, the
hikers were going twenty five thousand dollars, you know, Canadian fine,

(47:59):
which is really only about eighteen nineteen thousand dollars US.
But hey, uh not the point I have been playing
with this drone. I got some neat shots. You can
go actually see it on the high Tech text in
dot Com. Two versions, the hover Air X one Promax
drone about eight hundred dollars the X one drone, not
the pro Max version. I think it's about five hundred dollars.
Ingeniously designed. The propellers are built inside of a kind

(48:21):
of a plastic cage, so if and when it actually
falls to the ground, it's not gonna fall directly on
a propeller and break the propeller and you have to
fix it to some extent. It's it's wonderful, so don't
I definitely one of my best products of the year,
and I'll be giving that the you know, probably the
top five products of the year when I come up
with the high Tech Texan Top Products of the year.
All right, breakdown right now phone number three four six

(48:44):
two nine eight three nine two six. You can follow
me at tech text in dot com. Michael Garfild is
a name. We're gonna be like a lovely semi warm

(49:09):
afternoon to you. Should you be listening across Sexy's still
waiting for that cold fund to come in. Not the
weather channel here, but I weather affects me as we
continue the high Tech Textan show, Michael Garfield is the name.
Any plus years we've been doing this, I refer a
lot to weather because as a Texan, as I've been
all my life, I actually don't like the heat. I

(49:32):
really don't. And I've lived, you know, from Dallas, originally
a school in Austin, lived in Houston area for thirty years.
In Houston is just an oppressive, humid city. But it
keeps our skin looking very young. You never know. I'm
actually ninety four, but weather affects my mood. I'm a runner,
I'm an outdoor guy, and I just don't like schitzing.

(49:53):
You know, sweating is just not the good thing. So
you know, I like golfing. I tried not to play
golf a lot of golf in the summer. This is November, people,
I mean we're in the second weekend of November right now,
and it's as you know, as I do the show,
it's in the you know, the eighties, and I mean
it's come on, man, I mean it's getting dark at
six o'clock right now, which I'm cool with, but it's

(50:16):
just can we can make a little better. I'm trying
to be in a happy mood, but you know, it
put me in a happy mood right now, and calib
it will. They're watching me in the on the other
side of the glass in the booth over here. I
love holiday season. Holiday season means many things to me.
Number one that it's the weather is supposed to get cooler.
But I like, I love Halloween. I like Thanksgiving and

(50:38):
so I just sprayed. I have some air spray and
I love this time of year. I love getting pumpkin
smelling air spray blade or the HV brand or whatever
it is, I don't know. And so this is called
what is this called? This is called pumpkin roll. You
guys can't smell it in there because I've got a
soundproof it come over here during the break. That actually

(51:01):
just put me in the mood. That put me in
the holiday mood, other than the fact that I just
watched you know, Home Alone on earlier this week. But
it's something I don't give me some candles? Are we
lowed to have candles in Here's nothing like burning down
the studio. We continue the high tech text and show
Michael Garfield here this portion of the show. We're brought
to you by US Coins and Joey US Coins and Joy.

things where you have to have an invitation to. Download
it's kind of the Old google, model if you. Will
they finally released it For android AND i downloaded, it
and if anybody is, INTERESTED i have six invitations to

(54:41):
send to people to use this. Thing holp me an
email or go online to follow my high tech textan
account And i'll IF i have, Enough i'll send it to.
You Open ai that's the company who brings you CHAT.
Gpt they have brought Its ai video app finally To
android and it is called if you may be familiar with,
It sora s o R. A sora has been an

(55:05):
incredibly popular app for the past month or two or
three on The apple. iPhone now it comes. In what
it does it lets you, create, share and REMIX ai generated.
Videos and it launched In. September the app already has
more than one million downloads and that was just in

(55:26):
the five days following its. Launch so what it. Does
it gives you a TikTok like feed OF ai generated.
Videos but the thing, is it lets you CREATE ai
content starring yourself or your friends with its cameo, feature

(55:48):
cameo tay slack. Canadate and it it's Contra It's i'm
not gonna say it's. Controversial it's facing, criticism criticism over
its approach to deep fakes and it's copyright protections and
so it. Had it recently did a reversal in its
opt out policy for rights, holders but it's introduced the

(56:11):
ability to create character cameos and it eventually is going
to plan to give rights holders the ability to charge
extra for cameos if you, know portray yourself as a
character or a. Person AND i noticed it BECAUSE i
think you, know my son is a and if you
want to follow my, son he's a twenty five year
old kid out Of he lives In, austin but he
is a massive sports. Influencer if you want to follow,

(56:34):
him he does, unbelievable, funny great. Work especially he follows THE.
NFL i, mean the guy breaks MORE nfl news probably
Than Adam. Schefter that Guy, Garf that Guy, garf all,
right that's my Son. Adam he starts USING ai and
he takes his photo and HE ai inserts it onto
the body OF i saw one where he was AN nfl.

(56:56):
Player he was in, pads he was in, everything and
he was being called off the field after the injury
and it was so freaking. Real And i'm just scratching
the surface of how to use. THIS i, Mean i've
kind of created one and it wasn't that. Good but
this is how SCARY ai can. Be and it's Called Sora.
Sora this is not an. Endorsement i'm not promoting. It

(57:19):
i'm just letting you. Know this is incredibly popular right.
Now and this is more news That i'm talking about
because it's finally launched For. Android and if anybody has used,
it hot me and created, one send me a. Link
go to my High Tech texan x, account all right
and send me, Like, Hey. Garth this is WHAT i
created with, it and it's really mind. Blowing but it's

(57:42):
also scary. Too and let me give you one BEFORE
i get out of. HERE i have to just a
quick antidote about how SCARY ai. Is AND i did
want to share this, story But I'M i don't COVER
ai that much Because i'm. Slow i'm trying to be
slow to use it and adapt to. It i'm putting
my foot in my toe in the water BEFORE i
put my foot in my. Mouth if you USE ai

(58:03):
in terms of asking, questions that's one. Thing but now
you can USE ai LIKE i Use. Gemini, again it's An,
android It's Samsung. Gemini it's on My. Android you can
use it to create. Images And i'm gotten pretty and
you Know i'm not, great BUT i play with it
And i've uploaded my photo AND i can, say, hey
portray me as a football, player portray me as an

(58:27):
astronaut floating around the. Moon use this picture to make
it look LIKE i just won The World series And
i'm hoisting the. Trophy you give it a few seconds
in dang, man If i'm not there doing this. Thing
so there was A halloween feature last week where all
you needed to do is upload a photo of, yourself for,

(58:48):
example and you, say make me a, vampire and in eight, seconds,
BOOM i was a. Vampire make Me frankenstein or. Whatever so,
ANYWAY i THOUGHT i was being. CUTE i was hanging
around with my. Boys we were In canada something like,
that and we were, actually you, know make me, this
and you know who could create the most outlined. Thing so,
ANYWAY i THOUGHT i would be sweet AND i uploaded

(59:09):
a photo of my girlfriend AND i, say make me a,
princess and it pops out a photo and there she,
is and you, KNOW i got A tierra got a.
DRESS i don't. Know they put a wedding ring on her,
finger and it was a picture of her and just like,
anything and the photo was manipulated a. BIT i don't.

(59:31):
Know they could either add, weight drop, weight foot shadows
in the, face do this. Thing, ANYWAY i looked at it.
QUICKLY i thought it was a beautiful. PICTURE i thought
it was. Nate so, ANYWAY i sent it to. HER i, said,
hey princess or something like. That woo didn't go over,
WELL i don't. Know SHE i don't. Know, she like
many people out, there really doesn't understand the, scariness for

(59:53):
lack of a better term OF ai of what it can.
Do and she's, like where did this come? From why
did you put my face on somebody else's. Body i'm, like,
UH i didn't do. ANYTHING i just typed a prompt
INTO ai and that that let do a little tense
text conversation all as. Well but the point is be
careful what you are doing and let people know that

(01:00:17):
this is. Right. Now we are in the experimental part
of using the artificial. Intelligence things can. Be we are
deceived by many, things and whether we're trying to do
something cute or right or, funny people will and can
perceive it as maybe not as you. Intended just like

(01:00:41):
This sora APP i talked about this video. App people
may Think i'm actually an astronaut floating around on the,
moon Or i'm running a marathon in world record two
hour and one minute. Time not. Me take it with
a grain of, salt AND i think there needs to
be continue, rules, laws legislation that has to Lay this
ain't real, People this is JUST ai and we're jacking

(01:01:05):
around is we're just having some. Fun and with, that
at the bottom of the, hour we got two more.
Segments don't go. Anywhere Michael, garfield this is the High
Tech Texan, show less than thirty minutes to go and

(01:01:32):
what we call the High Tech Textan. Show it's not all.
Tech people don't freak. Out we talk, Sports we talk,
whether we do not talk. Politics we do Talk how
come you haven't sent your Leftover Halloween reesius candy to?
Me you can get in here at three four six
two nine eight three nine two. Six shout out to
a lot of our terrestrial iHeartRadio talk stations across the

(01:01:53):
state Of. Texas and if, not you may be listening
on a podcast On iHeart radio or you're listening live
streaming On, iHeartRadio certainly In, Dallas, houston And San. Antonio
we thank you for. That Michael garfield is the. Name
if we're, tight you can call Me GARF, grf which
is the first four letters Of. Garthfield twenty three years
people still call Me garth like we're Watching Wayne's. World not. True,

(01:02:17):
no it Is garth only if we're. Tight WHEN i
first started this twenty three years, ago one of the
first things THAT i was covering when it would come to,
technology it was. Passwords, hey make sure your password is not.
Password make sure your password isn't, one, two, three, four, five,
SIX i mean at least throwing a. SEVEN i, mean

(01:02:38):
people come on AND i two decades, later the fact
IS i still have to remind, people AND i hear
stories about you're kidding. Me things happened because the passwords
were so simple and one which came to. Mind and
this just came to light a few days. Ago did
you hear about that famous jewelry heist a few weeks
ago at The louver In? Paris it was Pretty it

(01:03:04):
was pretty amazing if you think about. It these these
these thieves in the right when it opened in the
middle of the, day they take this cherry picker, Device
they break, in they hop on, motorbikes they steal all
these crown, jewels one hundred million dollars in jewels from
the world Famous louver. MUSEUM i, mean it captured the world's.
Attention well a few days. Ago this is, great good

(01:03:25):
job for The. Frenchies The french police have ARRESTED i
think seven, suspects haven't recovered the jewels, yet but the
report Was The louver has had security issues in the,
past including one that would not even pass the most
basic cyber security. Test you ready for. This one of

(01:03:46):
the museum's passwords back in the day was actually the
museum's name, Itself. Louver that's, brilliant, man that's. Brilliant this
is A french new. Paper The liberation reports that The
french cybersecurity agency audited the security back at twenty, fourteen

(01:04:07):
and the museum. Failed The louvers password was Once. Louver,
now let me help you. Out they're lazy passwords out.
There i'm going to give them a little credit because
if you're not, familiar it ain't that easy to Spell.
Louver it's Actually. Louvre now it looks like it's louverray.

(01:04:33):
WHATEVER i think it's pronounced. LOUVER i don't. Know i've
never been To. Paris that's pretty. STRONG i, mean couldn't
they come up with louver one or smile Mona lisa.
SOMETHING i say this BECAUSE i have, to, man this

(01:04:56):
is like a public freaking service announcement for two. Decades
ladies and, Gentlemen now is an excellent time to update
your own, passwords because if The louver report wasn't enough,
incentive it's pretty much essential to give your own passwords
a check ahead of the, holidays And i'm. Serious when
many people increase their online shopping, town their shopping time
is big. Time right, now you can improve your passwords

(01:05:18):
a few simple. Steps maybe you want to use a password.
Manager it generates strong, passwords it keeps them. Organized but
when creating, PASSWORDS i could say this blindly by wrote
in my, sleep keep a few essential points in. Mind
don't use your name or any identifying information as part
of your. Password use passwords that have upper and lower

(01:05:41):
case letters and numbers and. Simples, hey don't be shy
to throw in an, asterisk maybe a, hyphen maybe a
dollar sign or a pound sign once in. There update
your passwords if you become aware of a data, breach
and don't leave any unencrypted notes revealing your password lying.

(01:06:03):
Around you know you could have the strongest password in the.
World don't yellow sticky it and put it on your freaking.
Refrigerator someone going to break in and it's. Ova today's
passwords aren't just on your, phone in your, computer but
on vulnerable devices Like Wi fi, routers security, systems and.

(01:06:25):
More good job, LOVE i gotta, say, MAN i mean
you read the story about that jewelry, heist which if
that's not a thirty for thirty. Doc that's got to
be some movie. Made it's some point in the future
in the. World did they catch these? PEOPLE i, mean
that's pretty Strong or did they or is it just
a pr move to let people, Know oh we caught,

(01:06:46):
you you better not attempt to break in again. Again
i'm not a conspiracy, theory BUT i thought that was
actually a very very interesting. Whatever let's see what ELSE i. Got,
oh go back to THE ai thing About. Siri not
an iPhone, guy But siri was one of the first
voice assistants on. Phones if you have an, iPhone do

(01:07:10):
you Use siri for? Help and if you Have, GOOGLE
i mean there's there's there's There's Google voice and assistants
you can do Okay? Google no that ore the fund
stuff like. That but, anecdotally BECAUSE i don't Use, siri
Is siri from WHAT i, hear it's not the greatest voice.
Assistant it was one of the. First and you know,

(01:07:33):
what and you know who's finally Admitting And i'm not
dancing on anybody's. Grave i'm not being an iPhone. Hater
i'm really. Not but you know who's actually finally admitting
what the rest of us known for Years siri is not.
Good siri kind of. Sucks AND i say, this and let,
me let me qualify What i'm. Saying according to reports
from Mac rumors And, Bloomberg, Apple apple, themselves they just

(01:08:00):
struck a deer With google to Integrate GEMINI. Ai, right
that's The Samsung. Google they're going to make that a
feature directly Into siri in the FUTURE iOS. Releases after
more of a decade of living in the past among
all the voice, Assistants siri is about to borrow someone else's.

(01:08:25):
Brain and to, me that's a fascinating. Twist apple is
outsourcing its next BIG ai leap to Arrival apple's. Intelligence
it's gonna focus on, privacy on on device. Inference in other,

(01:08:45):
Words apple's gonna Wrap gemini in liquid glass and they're
gonna call it innovation people For, google if you look at,
it this is a massive. Win every iPhone Using, gemini
it becomes a data and distribution channel that reaches hundreds
of millions of really high end premium. Users For, apple

(01:09:07):
they're going to say it's a stop. Gap why they
take the time to build something of their. Own Listen,
rumors blah, blah. Blah but rumors like this, generally there's
where they's, smoke there's. Fire apple was meant to debut
an updated version Of siri AND iOS. Eighteen there were
technical difficulties and. Whatever so this Smarter Apple Intelligence seri

(01:09:29):
is now expected to come out IN iOS twenty SIX
i think twenty six point. Four not to the spring
of next, year, though but look at. THAT i guess
we can get, along So siri won't suck for much,
longer if that's good for, you. FOLKS i ACTUALLY i
don't use voice assistance that. MUCH i. Will i've got

(01:09:55):
voice assistance all over my, house different Kinds i've. GOT
i got a lot Of. Google i've got The Amazon
echo devices in some, PLACES i don't have anything iphoneish.
Whatsoever i've got a few smaller third party ones you
never heard, of and BECAUSE i test them. Out i've
got three floors in my, house and you, know WHEN
i got my bathroom and WHEN i got out of
my kitchen where These and SOMETIMES i will, say You'll,

(01:10:17):
google even though that's not the wake up, word BUT
i don't want My google to actually opening up right.
Now And i'll say play this, video play this. Song
i'm in the kitchen And i've got a video google
the old, original googled nest and IF i want a,
RECIPE i will actually say, it because sometimes my hands
are full of dirty And i'm cutting up chicken or
THINGS i DON'T i don't use that. Much i'm still

(01:10:38):
an Old i'm an Og i'm an old fashioned. TYPER
i don't even use voice text that. Much AND i
was telling SOMEBODY i think last weekend one of the
REASONS i don't use voice texting is BECAUSE i personally
am SO i, guess for lack of a better, TERM,
ocd But i'm so making sure that my grammar and

(01:11:01):
EVERYTHING i type is incredibly. PROFESSIONAL i don't like things
that are not n capitalized punctuation and certainly, spelling and
when you verbalize things sometimes they don't capitalize. It you,
know then you have to say the word period and
an explanation point and all this other. Stuff and SO
i would rather just sit there and type it. Out
AND i know it's much safer and really the only

(01:11:23):
way to do it when you're, driving. TOO i just
wait Till i'm not. Driving it's not THAT i haven't used,
it but until these voice assistants and text assistants get
just know, me and again it's going to take artificial
intelligence to know the Way michael. Speaks michael, Punctuates michael
is So i'm the president of his words and the
way it comes. Out i'm Still i'm A, texter not a,

(01:11:46):
fighter just Like i'm a lover not a. Fighter we
have one more segment to go hang with, me. Folks
THEN i will release you to potentially watch YOUR espn
games should you not have YouTube. Tv as we talked
about in nour number. ONE i will talk about a
few other, things including you know What i'm going to
talk a little about and android. Oppression i'm gonna ended

(01:12:08):
up if we're talking android versus. iPhone i got a
little funny anecdote that one of my sons told me
earlier this. Week it's the high tech tax and chefs stand.
About not sure if this is good news or bad,

(01:12:31):
news but it's the final segment of this weekends High
Tech Dexit. Show just an, honor honor to be here with.
You Michael garfield does the name no relation To garfield a.
Cat and by the, way for those youngins don't, know
there actually was a president of The United states Named,
garfield there was the twentieth president of The United. States still
blows me, away no pun, intended because he was actually.

(01:12:53):
Assassinated still blows me. Away that there's so many people
of this of this new, generation had no clue that
there was A garfield for a. President the stories, is it's.
FUN i checked into a hotel a few years. AGO
i tell the story before with two of my younger
twos of my three, sons and there was this youngish

(01:13:15):
lady girl at the check in desk And, hi how
are you welcome to? Whatever like? That hi checking? In
last name Is. Garfield how do you spell your last?
NAME i, Said, garfield like the cat and the, president
and she looks at Me. PRESIDENT i, said, Yeah President JAMES. A.

(01:13:35):
Garfield and she's looking at me Like i'm Speaking. Hebrew i'm,
like did you not know that there was a president Named?
Garfield AND i mean she easily was in herupper. TWENTIES
i know she went to. School NO i. Didn't it's
just who is teaching our kids or who is not
teaching our? Kids there you got that little presidential, history

(01:14:00):
AND i WISH i was related To garfield a cap
because let me help you out that. Character. Woo that
character is worth. Billions, BABY i would not be wasting
My saturday's talking to you, People, no, sir BUT i
enjoy it right. Now not going to give out the
phone number because we only have a few more. MINUTES
i do want to fill up a few STORIES i talked.
About apple has they're admitting to some way shape and

(01:14:24):
form That siri their voice. Assistant it's not the greatest
voice assistant in the. World rumors are that they're going
to license or work with their Rival google to Use
GEMINI Ai voice starting next, year which is, fun but
it it goes back to the iPhone Versus. Android And

(01:14:45):
i've learned a long time. AGO i. Am my job
is to recommend mini consumer life now, products, cars, trucks, travel, spirits,
liquor and of course technology hence high tech. Texts and
that's WHAT i started. Out and these are most of

(01:15:05):
all of them are in my. Opinions not a lot
of them are indoors or Pay But i'm going to
tell you WHAT i like it. LIKE i just happen
to be An android. GUY i used to work For.
Microsoft and when you work For, microsoft back in the,
Day Bill gates put a chip in your brain and
you're always going to be A Microsoft windows. Guy So
i'm A Microsoft windows, guy which MEANS i never was
An apple. GUY i didn't have the macatized, systems which
means when phones came out, BEFORE i mean the iPhone

(01:15:28):
wasn't released to what two thousand and, six two thousand and,
SEVEN i was On, BlackBerry's i was On. Nokia's but Then,
google which is one of the world's largest, COMPANIES i
Know apple is. Too they, said you know, What we're
just going to give away the license for all these
other you, know mobile companies to use The Google android operating.
System it was a brilliant. Move so The android operating,

(01:15:52):
system this is a, fact is at least all maybe
three to one seventy seventy to seventy five percent of
the world and the world uses The android operating system
because there's only one phone that uses, iOS Apple, iPhone
but it's. Countless the number of phones Use, Android Sam's

(01:16:13):
sung Motor roll Or Google pixel one PLUS lga goes
on and on sheer. Numbers so the REASON i Use
android not tied into the infrastructure Of OH i got
to use the iPhone because it works in My. MAC
i have A windows. Machine, PLUS i do want to
talk to the majority of my listeners around the. World
i'm going to talk About android and. Whatever but a

(01:16:35):
lot of my buddies even last. Week, well let me
start this. Way i've never been the guy who is
trying going to try to convince you iPhone users to
switch To. Android i'm not that, guy because if you
people are passionate about many, things they're brand. Loyal if
you're an iPhone, person you're an iPhone, person use. It
if you're An android, person android, person some people. Switch

(01:16:57):
i'm not Not. Google, WELL i have probably sold More
google operating system phones THAN i can Imagine Google Android
samsung has never paid me a freaking Cent, sadly it's
just this is my. Passion this WHAT i talk. About
one of my FRIENDS i told you we went To
canada last. Week we were. Hiking there were three of
the four of us actually Used. Android we were actually

(01:17:19):
in the, majority and the one iPhone. Guy, Again i've
known the guy for thirty. Years he was listening just
HOW i, was you, know BECAUSE i don't what's it
Called apple air drop or something we. WOULDN'T i was
taking pictures with my new. Phone it was beautiful as And,
android AND i was quit sharing, it which is the
way that we can do it on The, android and
he wasn't on the text. String, sorry, Man i'm gonna

(01:17:41):
have to text. This he, goes you know, What i've
been meaning to try. It i've been meaning to try It.
Android so in a, WAY i let him use when
we got, Back i'm letting him borrow right, now one
of my Older android. Phones he went out and got
a NEW sim, card just like A. Ff he Got.
MINT i told him go Get Mint mobile fifteen dollars
a month for one month and try the. Thing and

(01:18:02):
he's using. It and when he's two days of using
he's like texting. Me he, goes there's really not much
of a. DIFFERENCE a phone is a phone is a
phone to some. Extent it's roughly the same, size six
six point seven inches in, diameter it's got the same.
Icons you can make phone calls on, it you can
text on, it you can email on, it you can do.
Anything and he's getting used to. It he's probably not gonna,

(01:18:25):
switch but he's trying the whole. Thing but the point,
is my middle son DID i tell the story last?
Week but my middle son is my only android, Son
my older my younger, sons they have. iPhones, whatever that's.
Fine we still communicate shut breaking. News but my middle
son said something that was so. Cute does this remind,
me he, Goes, we as android users are some of

(01:18:45):
the most oppressed people in the. World in android users
are the oppressed minority in a world ruled by the,
glowing sterile tyranny of the. iPhone we android, users we
are the proliterate of the smartphone. Landscape we toil under

(01:19:07):
the thumb of the apple, bourgeois and, frankly he AND,
i we're tired of our suffering being dismissed as, oh
it's just a. Preference but, people as my son pointed,
out our struggles are, real starting with the insidious culture
barrier of the blue, bubble green bubble. Apartheid oh the
shame he was talking to me. About the, sheer unadulterated

(01:19:31):
gasp that escapes an iPhone user's lips when they see
their perfectly curated group chat defiled by a single sickly
green text. Bubble it's not just a color, difference it's
a mark of the, beast a scarlet letter that immediately
identifies us as other from. Accessories oh wait a, minute

(01:19:56):
we have A usbc breaking news for, you newer iPhone.
Users you have come over to the dark. Side, finally
the air drop. Apartheid, NO i can't air drop, you
but breaking. NEWS i can send and chat and video

(01:20:16):
with you other. Ways, people we are. Here we are.
Optimized our photos will be sent through. Email thank you very.
Much it was a, cute fun. Conversation BUT i say
this as the world around us seemingly starts to. Melt
the mid year elections just came, over and we've got

(01:20:37):
breakdowns in the, government and now THE tsa and the
flights are falling, apart and it goes on and on and.
On can't we all just get? Along there are. WAYS
i am your, Mediator Michael, garfielder AND i do thank
you for tuning. In have some. Fun that's WHAT i.
Do life is, short laugh and let's keep moving. On
next week more countdown to the holiday. Seasons if you

(01:20:59):
need to get me throughout the, Week hi, tech textan dot,
com find me at that, website find me on the social.
MEDIA i do think thank you so. Much will thank
you so, Much callum for running the board to the other.
Side Brian, Ericson Mark, Sherman Paul, Lambert Eddie, martini everybody
at iHeart that keeps me on the radio for twenty plus.
Years my name Is Gar happy Early, novemba AND i
hope it gets. Cooler we'll see you next week because

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
