(00:03):
Hi Texan, is Michael Garfield.Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield's joining the high
Tech Texan. Michael Garfiel is herewith a high tech texta items to make
easier new technology. So Michael Garfieldhas something you might like. Hi Texan,
(00:25):
Michael Garfield is your high tech Texan. Three decades hoping you make magic
with your gadgets heard worldwide on theiHeartRadio Act. Now your high tech Texan,
Michael Garfield. Well have you LaborDay weekend? And can anyone tell
(00:49):
me why this episode of my showis different from all others? Kind of
a reverse manish tone? You know? Well, as we do this show
plausibly live today September sewo for thefirst time in like twenty two years of
this show, we are not startingout the first Saturday in September with September
(01:15):
the song by Earth Wind and Fireand I know, including Dumb Truck Dan
and several others. You you're kindof happy about that. And you know
who we can thank for the musiclists intro our good our good friends here
at iHeartRadio, and or the licensinggroup that does not allow us to play
(01:36):
real songs? What the only wayaround that we gotta sing it. Let's
hear people body dance in in September. Body, come on, people,
clap your hands, roll down thewindows, shot in in September. Yah,
yu do it now, that's justas you're gonna get it. Please,
(02:00):
I hope you've not turned off theradio. We got two hours of
this stuff. I will say thislife as I know it pretty much officially
begins this weekend, as at leastin my mind, the nasty days of
June, July, and August areover and football season begins, well at
(02:23):
least college football today. Your RiceOwls play my Texas Longhorns, your Kug's
open up against the utsa road runus and I have no clue nor care
about the Aggies. NFL starts nextweek, so all we need now is
cooler weather and the barbecue fit tostart smoking. Let's freaking go people,
(02:44):
and we do start off the hightech text and show. Let's do it.
Michael Garfield is the name Calum Reid. I know you're a big football
fan because you work with not onlyhere with KPRC nine to fifty, our
talk station, but also our sisterseven ninety sports talk station, which broadcast
a lot of our football games too. I feel the weather trying. It's
(03:06):
trying to get I mean, Imean, I'm running a little bit later
in the mornings right now. It'strying to get a little cooler. It's
just not there. So it's stilltime to escape to some cooler weather,
which I planned to. For sportsfans, September is football season, and
if you love fall, well,September might be the pumpkin spice season.
But if you're a fan of technologyand especially Apple, it's iPhone season.
(03:31):
And if you didn't see it,Apple made that official a few days ago.
On Tuesday. They announced plans tointroduce its next iPhone on September twelfth,
and the event's going to be streamedfrom Apple's campus in California around about
eleven am Central time. No,I did not get invited to this one,
(03:52):
unlike Samsung, being the nice peoplethey are, who did invite me
to Soul, South Korea in Julyfor it's introduction of the flipping fold phones.
But that's okay. Apple, askme why I don't talk about you
a lot. Let's do a littleApple math here. Why don't we And
again every time we have to mentionthe word Apple, none of this is
official. It's all rumors, butbased on previous history. For all you
(04:16):
Apple honks out there, Apple typicallyrolls out pre orders for the iPhone the
Friday after their event, and thefollowing Monday, the latest version of the
iOS the operating system launches. Thenwe get the iPhones and store the following
Friday. So you see how itrolls. So if we go off that
(04:38):
logic, we should see iPhone fifteen. I'll call it that. Unless Apple
throws are curveball, we'll see theiPhone fifteen pre orders open up on September
fifteenth. We should then see iOSseventeen launch September eighteenth, Monday, and
then the iPhone fifteen hit stores onSeptember twenty second Friday. Don't know.
(05:00):
You could call me cardin Act theMagnificent, can't I see into the feature.
I pay no attention to the manbehind the curtain or the man behind
the microphone, because I don't knownothing. When it comes to Apple.
I will say this, because it'sall rumors. What will we see?
Will suggestions and reports suggest and Iactually like this if it happens. USBC
(05:21):
charging Port, Welcome to the twentyfirst freaking century. Apple. The lightning
port is gonzo from what I'm hearing. No more. They are going to
get a USB C charging port. That's what you're seeing more in automobiles.
It's the smaller, very small, oval shaped charger that you see in new
(05:44):
cars. USB chargers have been inphones for quite a while, but it's
the larger size and which is calledthe USB AG. That's the one that
you have to plug in. Andoh, by the way, I guarantee
fifty percent of the time you've pluggedit it upside down and you've got to
turn it upside down out to plugit incorrectly. That's USBC, SUSB A,
this is the letters C. Thisis the oval So it doesn't matter
(06:08):
you cannot plug it in upside downbecause it is an oval shape and it
works both ways. It is fasterthan USBA, and I believe just as
fast as the lightning port too.And it makes sense. And it's not
because Apple said, hey, we'rejust gonna throw in the town. We're
gonna copy with Android and Samsung andall these other things are doing. There
is a new law in Europe. The European Union came out with a law
(06:30):
requiring all mobile devices support USBC Soif Apple wants to sell iPhones in Europe
and other places of the world, yeah, they're gonna have to get on
the wagon. So well, you'reprobably are going to see the USBC and
there's nothing all with that. People, You're still gonna get all your little
face time me and all the otherApple crap that you like. It's just
(06:53):
a new way to charge you.And if you charge wirelessly in again,
it's not gonna make a difference.Look, we're probably gonna see little subtle
small was to the camera, maybethe processing chips. And there's going to
be at least three versions of theiPhone, probably called the Pro probably called
the Pro Max. And I thinkthey're gonna come out with titanium frames.
Do not hold me to that.Do not call me next week or the
(07:15):
week and a half and say, hey, Garfield, what were we talking
about. I'm just taking a guessnow. I know when Samsung tells me
to shut up, because I've seenit embargo, I can hint about some
things and throw my reputation the line. I have no clue what is Apple's
doing. I will not see aniPhone fifteen. I've never seen an ip
phone fourteen, an iPhone ten.I don't know. I'm Android guy because
(07:40):
more people around the world fact usethe Android operating system. I'm not saying
Samsung, but the Android operating system, which is Motorola, which is Google
Pixel, which is Samsung, whichis LG, a lot of others.
And I want to talk to themasses people, which is kind of why
I use the Android operating system andWindows versus the Apple iOS. You don't
(08:01):
like it, suck it up.I'm still entertaining and I have a lot
of hair, and you know,I do make sure that you have fun
for at least the next hour andforty five minutes. So we are going
to take a break. But Iwill tell you what is also coming up
on a Labor Day weekend. Itis outdoor time because it's getting cooler.
How about an outdoor television? Raiseyour hand if you have or want an
(08:22):
outdoor TV. Now, I wouldn'trecommend just putting a TV out in the
elements, but there is one comingout that is big and actually you should
have no problem seeing it in directsunlight too. It ain't cheap, but
I'll tell you about that. Thereis a streaming service that is lowering it's
price I have not come up witha story or report on that. And
(08:43):
the years that I've been covering streaming, I will tell you what that streaming
service is. I got a questionabout cheaper phones, best cheap phones,
and another more questions and answers.I'm at seven one three two one two
five nine five zero. Number hasnot changed in twenty two years. Don't
go anywhere. We're having fun.Either you're listening in the late afternoon or
you're listening late at night, aswe do it twice on KPREC nine fifty.
Michael Garfield is the name. Itis the High Tech Textan Show.
(09:16):
That's right, Thank you so muchfor that. Jigs An introduction. Second
segment we called here of the highTech Textan Show. Michael's my name,
Niguel nfiel Garf. If we're reallytight, seven one three two one two
five nine to five. Oh,I get out that number because last I
check, this is talk radio.Man, this is what we do.
You know, you call in,you listen to Walton and Johnson, you
listen to Kenny, you listen tosome of the stuff of the weekdays.
(09:39):
I used to have a weekday showhere I did. Man, Why would
I work five days a week, six days a week when I can work
one day a week. It's allSaturdays, all the time for two decades.
So call it it's interactive. Itake your question. Somebody just called
or I see on the phone screenhere they want some they want new,
a new phone. Certainly, Ithink it looks like for their kids because
(10:01):
it's you know, going back toschool. But they do not want to
pay the thousand dollars a thousand dollarsplus phones. There are stamp easy,
doesn't people. I am your guy. I got the answers there are.
There are phones that you do notneed to pay a thousand or eight hundred
or six hundred even that much for. I will let me get to that
here in the next segment or two, so you can stand by this segment.
(10:22):
I do thank the folks over atUS Coins and Jewelry. I was
there twice this past week. YesterdayI was hanging with Kenny and Matt Duncan.
Those are the two principles even thoughtheir father founded it like in like
nineteen eighty five. Who's still thereby the way, good too, great
family. It's always nice going there. And uh, I'm a stamp used
to be a stamp collector. Notcoins are the thing, but it's just
(10:45):
people really do collect coins. Iwalk in and all the little private cubbyholes
are there where people bringing in theircoins to get the value of it,
or they're selling them back and theyare going to give you fair market value.
They also have a wonderful stock ofjewelry, including row lexes, and
I know rolexes are very tough tofind. They will if you're thinking of
buying rolexes, start and end withUS coins and jewelry. Would you do
(11:09):
that please? Because they are alwayslooking for more and they always have a
ton in stock. You can buyand sell and go back and forth.
Some neat sports memorabilia, really goodTexas memorabilia too. If you're trying to
decorate your office and there's Texas flagsor you want like a you know,
framed you know, declaration of Independencefor a great State of Texas and what
have you. US coins and jewelry. They're on I ten, which is
(11:31):
Katie Freeway right your Voss, sojust outside just west of Loop six ten
on the south side. US coinsand jewelry, great security cameras. Don't
worry about bringing your viables in there. Do tell them you heard it on
the mister Michael Garfield program. HAnd you can ask for Kenny Matt Will
also is the family too. Justask for anybody. But it's it's fun
and I certainly know they're gonna getbusy here. Then as the holiday season
(11:54):
comes up, as we continue theH T T Show, that's what we
caught. We've got one eye onthe college football season kicking off pretty cool.
Who who uses Alexa? And Iknow I just totally screwed up your
smart speaker right now by saying thewake word of a looks up? And
who uses Google? I know thereare a few others, but those are
(12:16):
the two bigges Alexa or Google.I have. I have both systems.
I've got two Alexas. I havegot one two three four Google smart devices,
be it a speaker or a littlekind of a video type of monitor
that you know, the Google nest. It's it's it's in the counter.
(12:39):
I don't. I rarely use myAmazon. I just I just it's just
I know my office where I almostI am all waking parts today, I
do have a Google in there inmy bathroom, right outside my shower.
I've got a Google video so Ican stream watch morning shows, whatever I'm
watching in the shower, shaving orwhat. Have you liked this, so
I can use Moore. And thereason I say this it is because if
(13:01):
you're sick of yelling at Alexa whenoh, by the way, you were
trying to yell at Google, there'sactually a solution. There is Harmon HRMA.
At Harmon, which is an audiocompany, they announced a new line
of JBL that if you're familiar speakers, it's the JBL Speakers. It's called
JBL Authentics, and it's actually kindof a first of their kind smart speaker
(13:26):
that will simultaneously deploy both Amazon's Alexaand Google's Assistant. Pretty cool, huh
so, So the speakers, inaddition to looking pretty cool, they're different
from other agnostic speakers. You don'thave to manually switch between Alexa and Google
(13:48):
to pick up one during the setup, so if you ask Google to play
a song, you can tell Alexato pause it. Now, historically,
if you think about an Amazon andGoogle have not been interested in functioning seemly
together. They have not. Butthis move, it seems, it really
is pretty cool of what they're tryingto to work together. And I liked
(14:11):
that a lot. For this towork big time, there's a lot to
overcome. Smart speaker ship mits sawtheir six consecutive quarterly dropped earlier this year,
and it plunged by about thirty thirtypercent. And this is the recording
to research from called Canalis. Amazon'sdivision was importantly on track to lose ten
(14:33):
billion dollars last year, and Ithink there were some company layoffs. Google
they similarly struggled to generate buzz oreven significant revenue from Assistant from its assistance.
And I ask you that I amnot surprised that smart speaker ship mits
are down at some point when themarket is saturated, when you already have
(14:54):
one, two, and I toldyou I think I have six, if
not seven. I lost count ofmy house. I don't need to buy
another one. If you're listening, and I generally know the democratic demographics of
my listeners, you probably already haveone, if not two, if not
three, or more of these smartspeakers. They could be relative to actually
they're relatively inexpensive. I mean,as holiday season comes up, and I
(15:16):
know, I know, you canget the small little hockey puck looking ones
for twenty five dollars if not evenless than that. And they are pretty
cool too. You can, youknow, tell them to play the music
I have. You know a lotof people put them in their kitchen.
Hey listen, can you give toshow me or talk to me a recipe?
What's the sports scores? And ifyou're really going to get cocky,
you could be or you should belistening to my radio program right now on
(15:41):
your smart speaker. All you needto say is Yo, Amazon, Yo,
Google the wake up word. Iwon't do it. Listen to KPRC
Radio on iHeart Radio. Try it. If you have one, you say
yo, wake up word. Listento KPRC nine fifty on iHeartRadio. Do
it with me. Listen to KPRCradio on iHeart Radio. That's right now.
(16:07):
You don't have to, you know, waste your cellular data or whatever.
It's pretty cool. Lots of thingscan be done. I'm not going
to recommend either one. I likeboth of them. I told you I
have both of them. If youare an Amazon honk, yes you're gonna
have. You're gonna have the AmazonEcho, which obviously uses the Alexa the
(16:30):
wake up work. It works wellbecause you can make a grocery list and
it goes directly to your account andthen Whole Foods will deliver it and blah
blah blah blah blah blah. Andthat's why people love their Apple. If
I have an Apple, if Ihave a Mac, if I have a
you know, MacBook, if Ihave an iPhone, it's just seamlessly.
It's the ecosystem. It's generally it'sGoogle Slash. Android is an ecosystem,
(16:56):
which you know, I would sayMicrosoft Windows is in there too, you
know, pair with that, andthen there's their Apple and now Amazon obviously
they have the smart speakers, andthey have to get the fire TVs.
I mean they don't have a phoneper se, and I know they kind
of did or trying and launching inone that that's there's certainly not any traction
there. But if I'm only gonnatell I don't mind me an agnostic and
(17:18):
to go back to the story hereya for JBL and the speakers of being
agnostic. You know that it'll workon both systems, and you know Apple
did launch one and there is anan Apple smart speaker out there. It
just it just never really took off. I think a they were behind the
times. They weren't first to market, and it was called it's called the
(17:41):
home pod, and they have aHomePod many they were not first to market,
just like Amazon was. And itwas expensive, and because because everything
Apple does is expensive, and becauseyou don't physically touch it or use it
like you do an iPhone. Followme here. I think people are like,
Nan, you know, why doI actually need to spend all that
(18:02):
stub when I can get one fortwenty five dollars or so? Which they
work? Word? And I listen. I know they sound different. And
there's a lot of bass in theApple HomePod, but at some point you
have a few of them, itdoesn't work. Which one do you use?
Seven? One three, two onetwo, five nine five. Oh,
we got the bottom of the hourhere, and when we come back,
we're gonna talk a little bit aboutout televisions. There's some TV news,
a lot of a lot of footballseasons here, so you may want
(18:26):
to upgrade your TV, whether you'rewatching Insider, whether you're watching outside.
I'll give you some information about thatand some of your phone calls here on
a high tech text and show.If you're having fun, you've got two
years on this radio program, andmaybe two eyes on a college foot black
(18:48):
game which kicks off two day Whetherit's a late morning for you late night,
should you be listening to the encoreperformance of this program here on Kate
PRC nine fifty. It's good tohave a football back. It's just it's
it's something about the dopamine in mybrain that maybe the weather is going to
get cooler. And I continue totalk about this and all you people listening
(19:11):
to iHeart Radio outside of the USor in the northern part of the US
where it's already cool and breezy andthe and the leaves are getting ready to
turn. You know what, wedon't have stay income taxes because we got
that going for us. And that'sall I could say. I will give
you the phone number here. Itis seven one three two one two five
nine five. Oh, I seeone or two people on hold. I
(19:32):
do have to say, it's Ialmost lunch time. I'm getting our good.
Did anybody try Chick fil A,which I'm a big fan of And
this is not I'm not an endorsement. I wish they pay me and I
like that, but I just Italk about things that I like. Anybody
see the New Sandwich they released thisweek. If you did anybody try this
thing? Oh, pretty impressive.Memento pepper honey chicken sandwich. Say that
(19:56):
ten times fast. Actually, it'snot that hard. Pimento pepper honey chicken
sandwich. I ain't had a littlepretest, must admit, and I really
I couldn't say anything until it cameout on Monday. Pretty good. If
you like pimento cheese, it's it'sgot it's got jalapenas on it, and
I like that no pickles. It'sgot three halopenas on there. It's a
(20:18):
little drippy eat because the pimento cheeseout of melts. I'm just throwing it
out there. People turned to mebefore. Hey man, Michael, you're
always in the know. Before thenews stuffs released. You could also super
secret here. It's a it's atypical Chick fil a fried chicken sandwich.
You can also get the Chick filA spicy fried chicken if you're requested,
(20:40):
and if you're really healthy and youwant to get cocky, you can actually
get the grilled chicken with the pimentocheese on top. Da I didn't try
that one. I just don't know. I'm gonna eat fat. I'm gonna
freaking eat fat. It was good. That is not where I'm gonna eat
later two day or later this weekend. You know I'm gonna be at Johnny.
I keep talking about Johnny Tomali's,and I will tell you yes,
they are big part of this show. Because the one location not too far
(21:03):
for from where I am based. It's in Missouri City, which is on
the southwest side of our Houston listeningaudience twenty seven twenty FM ninety two,
which is Murphy Road for you folks, just near Highway six, and so
it's worth trekking out. And Iknow you can get a lot of tex
mex here and there staff is sofriendly, open syst just about six months
ago. The bar is awesome. And I know right now I am missing
(21:26):
a seat at the bar because theyhave six eight eight TVs and I know
they're blaring with college football right now, and I have Astro's games and whatever.
You want to watch. Great drinkspecials Monday through Friday? Two is
it? Two to three to six? Is that's right? Three to six
is the happy hour Monday through Friday. Free ice cream for the kids.
But everything is so fresh in itto me. It's a little bit more
(21:47):
than just Tex Mex. It's atext Mex Cantino and Johnny Tamali's is what
they call it. And you cango to Johnny two ends Tomali's mc MC
is in Missouri City and look atthe menu at JIMC dot com because they've
got shrimp and they've got lightly friedavocados, they've got great silence. It
is so good. And so Iknow every time my son pops in from
Austin he wants to go there. But I'm probably there about once a week
(22:11):
because it's not far from my house, and so I know it's lunchtime and
you want to find some place. What's got old margarite is ice cold beer.
Sit the kids down so they canjust go nuts on the chocolate ice
cream. Johnny Tamali's people go tellthem you heard it on the Garfield Show.
By next week, I think I'mgonna have a special code for you,
like if you say a word, you're gonna get something for free.
So that's why you need to startto putting that on your map. Johnny
(22:33):
Tomali's MC dot com it's in theMissouri City and I know they're it's probably
I'm probably blaring on their kitchen rightnow. I talk about televisions and bars.
Anybody interested in getting a new TV, I will say, I solve
this, my nice folks at Samsung. I don't even have a Samsung TV.
I don't so if Nicole is listening, I just want to she's with
(22:56):
VR Firm. I don't have aSamsung TV. This weekend is day they
there's some pretty good deals. Iwill tell you this. Last week I
told you Samsung just came out withtheir call. There's new smart projector.
It's called the Freestyle. It's youcan it's got a game hub system.
I think you know you can tookyour gaming systems up to it. You
can hook up what It's two hundreddollars off this weekend I think at Target,
(23:21):
so it's now five ninety nine. The Frame TV this is they have.
That's a cool TV. If youwant a TV and when it's not
on you wanted to display like beautifulartwork or photos like a frame it's up
to eight hundred dollars off. Ithink of the Samsung website that starts at
five fifty. That's a cool TV. Best Buy also has a few.
(23:44):
They have a fifty five inch Neoq led. It's an eight k TV
six hundred dollars off at best by. Best Buy also has a sixty five
inch Neo four k TV thirteen hundredhours off of best Buy that those are
not bad. Also got some gooddeals on the new Flip phone, the
Flip five six hundred bucks off atSamsung if you've got an eligible trade in,
(24:11):
that's pretty good for four hundred dollars. And I'm gonna talk about cheap
phones too. Coming up, theWatch five Pro. I gotta Watch five
pro seventy dollars off at Samsung website. They got tab S six light at
Walmart and one hundred bucks off,and they also have the kind of the
less expensive Galley. Samsung makes lessexpensive smartphones other than their Galaxy models.
(24:32):
They have the A thirteen A onethree smartphone ninety five dollars off, which
makes it ninety five dollars at Walmart. And I'll lead into that here soon.
Ninety five bucks for a smartphone anda Sam Suck smartphone. Yeah,
I'll tell okay, may want tosign me up for that one too.
That's I'd recommend that one for kids, people going back to school and things
(24:56):
of that nature. Go back tothe TVs, though, and this is
not a gosh. I wish thiswas a Samson commercial. I wish they
would sponsor to the show where they'renot, but I did see their coming
out with this. I have anoutdoor TV, but after six years it
finally busted. I get a lotof questions, Hey, mister high tech
texture. Should I should I puta TV outside? If I have a
(25:18):
pool or a backyard, I havea barbecue grill, it's would have you
here. There's you listen, there'sweather factors. There's rain. If you're
listening somewhere up north, it's snow. It's I used. It gets cold
here in Houston. It is humidity, humidity, nasty sunlight, direct sunlight.
So I have recommends a few things. Make sure you would find a
(25:41):
covered spot to at least semi protectedor fully protected from the elements of direct
sunlight or certainly rain or moisture.I say moisture. It's gonna get humidity
no matter what it is. Puta cover on it. One time I
went out and I've made my owncover. I went out and got a
cheap barbecue grill cover at home deepand I got it big enough, and
(26:02):
I think I kind of, youknow, used a knife and I kind
of slid it and it fit overmy fifty five inch Cheapo TV debut.
And there's the secret. Get itCheapo TV. The TV that I had
I used indoors inside my house.I moved inside and moved into a new
house, and I said, youknow what, it's a relatively inexpensive TV.
It's been around for a while. It's fifty five inches. I'm just
(26:23):
gonna put it outside. If itwin, when it busts, breaks or
whatever, I'll go get a newone because some TVs can be inexpensive.
It finally busted, so now footballseason, like asap, I'm gonna need
a new TV outside. I don'tknow if I'm gonna get this one.
But Samsung just released is it actuallyon sale? It announced? Is I
(26:48):
don't know if it's on sale.Let me keep on it. It announced
eighty five inch television specifically for outdoors. You have a outdoor TV line called
Terrace, like Outside of the Terrace. It is an eighty five inch Terrace
Full Sun as you went, FullSun. I'm not gonna tell you how
(27:11):
much it is, but they sayit's because it's got neo q led q
LED it should remain bright even indirect sunlight. They've got direct sun protection
to keep the TV safe. Samsungclaims it's protected up to six hours in
sunlight at one hundred and four degreesfahrenheit. Samsung, let me help you
(27:33):
out, brothers and sisters. Heneeded me to test it here in Houston
because one oh four is a freakingcool day here. And do you think
I'm joking serious? More than adozen southern US cities broke their high temperature
records this year. I don't knowhow that heat threshold is gonna hold up.
It's got an IP fifty six ratings, so that's gonna stop water and
(27:55):
dust cool an, he guesses, callum, my producer in my ear over
under, what do you got Samsung'soutdoor which are always more expensive? Eighty
five inch set? What do yougot? Fifteen thousand dollars? Decent guests,
price is right, You did notgo over. That's the sad news.
(28:21):
Girl, twenty thousand dollars, you'regonna buy one? You got enough.
You easily could buy me one.People. I'd love to test this
bad boy, I really would.I I don't get TV's from Samsung.
I do get to play with theirmobile stuff, but I don't know.
They also have a sixty five inchone on sale for sixty five hundred dollars.
(28:42):
People, that's the deal. Theyhave a seventy five inch nine thousand
dollars. They do have one forthree thousand dollars smaller. It's a partial
sun what is It's very fun. It's very convenient to have a television outdoors.
See no matter where you're listening withpart of the world. I mean,
hopefully you're gonna be able to sitoutside some parts of the year.
(29:03):
Here in Texas, it gets veryhot. But I'll tell you what,
when it finally cools down, maybein October, maybe in November. It
is a freaking blast to have atelevision outside in your backyard. A Saturday's
college football, Sundays, Monday nightsfor football, your Thursday night football too,
have some boys over. You gota few coldies out there, you
(29:26):
got the big green egg rolling, you got a fire desk cooking out there,
whatever, and you're just sitting outthere watching. It's pretty cool.
You can go, you can gothe cheap way, you can get just
make sure you have a overhang. That doesn't give it, you know,
up hang a small one. It'snot going to predict. Mine has never
been great in direct sunlight. I'venever tried the Samsungs. It be neat.
I'd like to see it. Ifit actually does stop, then you
(29:47):
can see it in direct sunlight. But it point is there is new technology
out there. Should you have thecoinage for it? And if you do,
I need to be friends with you. All right, We're gonna take
a break, last break up thishour. When we come back, I
am gonna talk a little about inexpensivecell phones. So stand by for that,
(30:11):
talking cell phones, talking till aswe're talking food too. I just
got a call and my vote wentto Johnny Demalies over by you in Missouri
City about a week and a half. About loved it and and what's amiss?
It was my kid? This isfrom who's it? Her name was
Pam Bam said we loved it.It was my kids. Man. They
must have killed half the the icecream. It's that, you know what,
(30:33):
I know where they got Johnny DemalisThey cook the lead. I think
from the gringoes. You know it'sfree ice cream. It that's that's a
loss leader people. You gotta lovethat stuff too, but they got some
good stuff. Thank you for takingmy advice. It's you know, I'm
getting hungry. Uh, it's aswe do the show, it's almost lunch
time. But then again, ifyou're listening on the repeat on KPRC nine
fifty am in Southeast Texas, itmaybe almost midnight for all you people coming
(30:56):
home from a b from a bender, or you're you're truck drivers driving through
here. Welcome through to Houston.Drive carefully. I will give you the
phone number. Should we be doingthe show live and you want to say
high seven one three two one twofive nine five. Oh you call on
your smartphone? How much did youpay for your smartphone? Think about it?
(31:19):
If you're actually I'm okay. Iwant to say you're actually smart.
You probably forget because you've had yourphone quite a while. Good for you,
and I'm serious. You really don'tneed to go get a new smartphone
every year. Now. I rememberwhen the first you know, touch screen,
you know, obviously Apple I firstiPhone started that off, you know
(31:40):
back I don't know what a twelvefifteen whatever years ago, Yeah, about
fifteen years ago. Oh, anew one comes out each year, gotta
go buy a new one, godto get the upgrade. As as smartphones
are released now every year from eachcompany, be At, be at Apple,
be at Samsung, be at Google, be Apo, be it you
(32:01):
know, Moolla one plus whatever itis, year over year, there's just
not a lot of upgrades anymore. There's not, so there's no reason to
get one every year. So I'mtrying to save you some money over here.
A decent smartphone used to cost upwardsof five hundred dollars. Those days
(32:21):
were actually over. It is possibleto find something that meets most of your
needs for as little as one hundredand sixty dollars. I just told you
last breaking. Samsung has one rightnow on sale for ninety five dollars this
Labor Day weekend at Walmart. Butnavigating the budget phone market, it's it's
a little tricky, though. Iam here for you. There's a lot
(32:44):
of options that if you're reading onlinethey look good on paper. It doesn't
make it doesn't make a lot ofsense. So let's see if I could
break this down for I'm gonna tellyou what to look for an A do
I want to use the word cheap, cheap phone. Yeah, okay,
I'm gonna use the word chee okay, what to look for in a inexpensive
cheap phone, and I'm going todefine that as one hundred dollars to three
(33:05):
hundred dollars anything less. You mayjust go buy a dumb phone. Go
get a high end calculator, becausethey're meant to be more affordable than their
flagship phones than the expensive ones. The cheaper the device, the lower your
expectations around performance and experience. It'sprobably it's gonna be that way, y
Ash. You should know what youwant most from a phone. It's very
(33:29):
difficult doing the radio show like this. I don't know what you want because
you truck driver, you lawyer, you doctor, you high school kid,
you will all want something different.Ask yourself, what do you want most
from a phone? If you wanta budget device, maybe you don't care
(33:50):
about a decent camera, but youwant a long lasting battery. Maybe you
want a high res display for afast or a faster processor. You have
to pick and choose. It's sokind of worthy to say that, you
know some of these features can bevery far hard to find on cheap handsets.
If you want a great camera, you've got to fail a little bit
(34:12):
more, maybe six hundred dollars orso. You want wireless charging, you
want waterproof, they're not too easyto find in the cheaper price range.
Forget about a fast process. Also, Apple iOS don't even don't even listen,
don't even come here. They're offthe table. The most affordable Apple
cells I think, for about fourhundred dollars right now. The iPhone se
(34:37):
so that leaves Android is the onlyoption. So you see the game I'm
playing here, Welcome to The priceis right starring your host Garf hat tip
to Bob Barker. And there's nothingwrong with that. The Google's operating system
is fine. I prefer it overI asked. But that's neither here nor
here nor there. You want agood budget phone, I got one.
(34:58):
Here's a here's a company you mayhave never there's a company called one plus,
but you got spell it out On E l us one plus.
They've got a phone called the Nordin Nord N thirty in Nancy N thirty.
It's a good, very good budgetphone, two hundred and fifty bones
on Amazon. I think it.Best Buy's got something around that, maybe
(35:21):
a little more. The Nord inthirty, great value, very good fast
process or it's got a snap Dragonprocessor if you care about that. Good
amount of RAM, the random accessmemory. Good storage one hundred and twenty
eight gigs of storage so you don'tneed to actually go get an extra micro
(35:42):
SD card or even cloud storage.Decent display battery, Uh you can get
a full day of battery power aftercharging for about thirty minutes. Good price
two fifty Hi, you see whatyou got there? One plus Amazon best
Buy wherever you thing about two fiftyto two seventy dollars. Samsung also has
(36:04):
something you think of. Samsung andI told you when I visited South Korea.
If you went last month and Isaid, oh, I got a
new phone, it's a thousand dollarswith a flip five. It's a eighteen
hundred dollars for the fold five.Yikes. Oh there's more. Samsung does
have a Galaxy, but it startswith the letter A, not an S.
(36:24):
Those are expensive ones A. There'san A fourteen two hundred dollars in
Amazon and Walmart. I believe price, pretty fast, decent camera like Samsung
has got NFC, the near fieldcommunication, so you know if you ever
(36:47):
wanted to hold it up to aone of those payment screens and ay without
touching anything whipping your wallet out goodtoo. Battery life always good too.
Two hundred. I already told there'sa ninety five dollars one on sale was
at the A thirteen I think onsale at Walmart. Two What else is
(37:07):
there? Motorola actually makes one.Two. Motorola has a Moto G.
I'm not the biggest Motorola fan Iwas back in the day. I think
Motorola has kind of fallen off thewhole cool stuff. And but two hundred
bucks on Amazon. This one actuallyhas a stylist too, So if you
want to jot down notes or youwant to doodle the Moto G, which,
(37:28):
if you think about it, Iprobably should endorse because I am g
Money Garfield. The mot Moto Gstylists. It's got the built in stylist
too, so if you want totake note, it's good for good for
kids, six and a half inchscreen. It's got a very good battery
five thousand milliamps, long lasting. Two hundred bucks on Amazon too. There
(37:50):
you go. Nice way to actuallyget you into the twelve o'clock hour.
Be at twelve o'clock afternoon or twelveo'clock midnight here on the High Tech Text
and Show. Check out one ofthose. I am the guy who's always
going to tell you about some reallysmart products, be it technology, be
it food, be it cars,be it probably whatever. But also right,
you ain't gonna shell out a lotof shekels if you know what I'm
(38:13):
saying. So there you go.There's anybody else got suggestions. This is
why it's an interactive radio program atseven one three, two one two five
nine five old people, fire upif you're listening in the late afternoon,
late morning, or get ready togo to sleep if you're listening in the
late night here on nine fifty amhere in the southeast Texas area. And
I do thank everybody for tuning inon iHeart Radio or listening to the stream.
(38:36):
We got one more hour to goo, so you don't go anywhere.
We got even more fun stuff comingup on the High Tech Texan Show.
Yeah, hi is Michael Garfield.Michael Garfield. Michael Garfield's joining in the
(38:58):
High Tech Texan. Garfield is herewith a high tech texted It was to
make life easier technology. So MichaelGarfield has something you might want Michael Garfield
is your high tech Texan three decadeshelping you make magic with your gadgets.
(39:24):
Curd worldwide on the iHeartRadio Act.Now your high tech Texan Michael Garfield.
First Saturday in Septemper we are ahalfway through the High Tech textra Show,
halfway to Happy Hour. You shouldbe happy because college football season has been
gone and it is August is over. Man, it's a potty YACHTI that's
(39:47):
it. It's uptemp. No,we actually cannot play the actual slow because
of licensing. Right, so you'restuck with me singing this for the next
next month or so. But theway you can wake me up when September
ends too. You see what Ido. I incorporate music into every single
thing I do, along with entertainmentand a lot of your questions, answers
(40:10):
and recommendations. This is what wedo on the High Tech Texting Show.
I am Michael of course Garfield.Open phone lines. Hello, callum,
are you await? I know wedon't have any food right now, but
then about an hour when Happy Houractually starts, we can go get a
little something seven one three, twoone two five nine five Oh got call
(40:30):
Last hour going, hey, man, do you have any inexpensive or cheap
phone recommendations instead of these thousand dollarsones. Yep, I went through that.
If you go to iHeartRadio and youlisten to the podcasts, which will
be up in about what about anhour, right, callum because he's he
is Johnny on the spot. Rightwhen the show ends at one o'clock PM's
Central time. He puts it oniHeartRadio. You can go listen to the
(40:52):
show Ova and Ova again to hearme talk about inexpensive phones, outdoor TVs
for football season, some really coolLabor Day deals, on a few other
technology items and new things coming upthis hour, including streaming too. I
(41:13):
talk a lot about streaming because, without a doubt, it is very new,
relatively new technology that we now doinstead of the typical over the top,
over the air television and cable. If you're cutting chords, it's streaming.
And I think the average I sawthis, The average household has seven
seven and a half different streaming servicesthey subscribe to from Netflix, Prime,
(41:37):
Hulu, Max, Roku, DisneyPlus. It goes on and on and
on, and when I talk aboutthese things, the news always generally comes
from me is guess what. There'sa price increase. YEP goes from four
ninety nine a month eight ninety ninea month. Netflix is twenty bucks a
(41:59):
month. Then you can get thead supported. The advertiser free goes on.
Very rarely do I talk about whatI'm about to say. There is
a subscription streaming service that just loweredit's price. So take a guess which
streaming service has lowered its price. You want it to be Disney, don't
(42:22):
you? Now? You want itto be Max because you like Winning Time,
Story of the Lakers. You likesword Knocks, which by the way,
ends this coming. Wait ah,nope, none of them? Who
here who is listening? Has Stars? S T A r Z? Who
(42:45):
here is actually your heard of Stars? There you go, people, price
chage you just went into effect. So at a time when most streaming services
seem to be increasing prices, littlesurprise, here Stars lowered the price of
its annual subscription went from seventy fivebones a year to seventy dollars a year.
(43:10):
Oh my goodness, five dollars amonth. That's awesome. I'm not
sure why they made that move, but you know what, it's a very
welcome move. I don't care lowerthe price prices are following Walmart, I
believe it or not. I believe. I think it's one of the few
(43:30):
streaming networks it's actually profitable. Idon't even know it's If you've got stars,
can you talk to me here atseven one three two one two five
nine five zero thinks me or threadme high Tech Texans about the whole thing
up? Do you what show ison there? Disney Plus Hulu they announced
(43:52):
it's increasing their prices next month ofOctober. Paramount Plus they increased his price
back in June. Now i'll tellyou the Stars. If you look for
a monthly subscription, they did increaseits price from nine bucks at ten bucks
a few months ago. Monthly subscriptthis is an annual deal. Let me
(44:12):
see if I can even find whatshows? Okay, here we go,
Outlander, M Noe, The SerpentQueen, M Minks. What is Minks?
I'll tell you this. Eight Minksused to be on Max Hbo Max
(44:32):
if you will, and then itwas canceled. And what Stars does,
from what I understand, they pickup cancel They they sometimes pick up canceled
shows, which they did with Minx, M I n X, I have
no clue. It's good. I'mtrying to give you, mad people.
This is what I did. Ilook at I look for a little ray
of sunshine. Disney is losing itsfreaking teeth on Disney plus stocks going down.
(44:58):
Bob Iger is just freaking I mean, people at his throat for who
knows what's gonna happen with ESPN?Who knows? This is all again part
of Disney. I bet people,if you have I bet so many people
realize that they They don't realize thatthey have Prime Prime Video, which is
a great streaming service. Because ifyou have Amazon, if you're an Amazon
(45:20):
Memba, yes you get Amazon Musicstreaming service, which we like. iHeart
better than that, but you alsoget Amazon Prime. I'm telling you right
now, I use Amazon Prime morethan I use Amazon. I bought it
for the marvelous Missus Mazel, whichby the way, is now over and
I should cancel on Amazon. Ohyou want some breaking news, We're about
ready to go to break over here. Give you some breaking news. For
(45:43):
the first time this year, maybethe second this year, I ordered something
on Amazon Prime. I only pickedup Amazon Prime about well a few years
ago because I wanted to watch marvelousMissus Mazel. I rarely order anything on
line. I mean rarely, andI rarely use Amazon, unlike every single
(46:04):
one of my neighbors, who everyday I see an Amazon truck roll up
in front of my house. Thedriver gets out puts packages just stacked up
by their door. They're out oftown. I gotta go gather them for
my neighbors, which I'm happy todo, Big Daddy g I ordered something
on Amazon and prompt listen. Forall the bs that I say I don't
(46:24):
like shopping online, it is prettyfreaking convenient of sitting on your computer at
home, clicking by this, andthen within twenty four hours the next day
it shows up at your front door. That is pretty cool. Ladies and
gentlemen, I welcome the newest memberof the Garfield family, a portable travel
(46:46):
hair dryer. And if you donot think a hair dryer is important to
me, you do not know me, or you do not listen to the
show. I think it's a redline and it was a whopping sixteen dollars,
but I can travel with it insteadof my very high end, heavy,
professional beautiful ones that I received. It received them. It gives a
few years ago. I know I'mready to travel. If you want to
(47:07):
take me somewhere, hit me uphigh tech, text it all right,
coming back stand by about fifteen minutes, I got a great interview. I
found this company over here. Ifyou love red meat, if you love
steaks, if you love filets,if you like hamburger, I mean fresh,
I mean farm to fricking table.Got an interview with the company over
here. This dude is great. He is I'm gonna, I'm gonna,
(47:28):
I'm gonna blow the lead real quickly. He's Australian. Ladies, if you
want to get a little, alittle buzz going on through your body,
ain't nothing like talking to an Australianperson. But this dude, who's gonna
God, I wish I had blueeyes, and I wish I had an
Australian accent. You gotta love this. I will give you the story about
fifteen minutes. I've got an interviewcoming up with him. We'll tell you
(47:50):
about that. More time going universewhile we still have some time seven one
three two one two five nine fivezero Interactive radio show. One day after
I used to do a lot ofmy live webcam I don't do it anymore
(48:12):
because if I do a live webcam, you know, you gotta get off
the foot stuff, and you gottado your hair, and you gotta put
at the lighting and you get youknow, instead of doing the show naked
like I generally do. It's justit's a whole rigamarow, the whole the
Michig guys. I don't want todo it, so let's just keep it
on the phone. Seven one threetwo one two five nine five zero.
It is uh. It's called theHigh Tech Texan Show. We have actually
(48:32):
touched on some technology. We talkedabout some cheap cell phones, some new
television's coming out, including a veryexpensive outdoor TV. I do like outdoor
TVs in football season, and collegefootball season has kicked off. It is
week one and so you are RiceOwls play My Texas Longhorns. Two thirty
pm today, Cougars eight Chat UniversityHouston Cougars. Cougar's whipping out some cool
(48:59):
new unis today. It looks likethe Houston Oilers, kind of the light
blue Oilers they're playing today versus UTSARoadrunners. It's awesome. We just need
cooler weather. Next week is abig one. Next week is a big
one. UT fans. Who's goingto Tuscaloose Alabama. Who's on the plane
with me? People Texas goes toAlabama? The ticket the game of the
(49:20):
fall. You will be listening livefrom Alabama coach Nick Satan Boo horns up,
which actually we iHeart radio here.We actually do broadcast the University of
Texas Longhorns on our assist. Thestation be at seven nineties Sports Talk or
even sometimes seven forty k tier RAG. You can listen to your yours Houston
(49:43):
Cougars here on nine fifty am,which is what I broadcast on. If
you do want to go to anyout of town games, you better get.
Flights have gone up since this yearunless you fly private if you know
what I'm saying. But do youbook when you book flights? Do you
(50:05):
go directly to the airline Southwest dotcom or whatever you or do you use
some of these aggregated services like likeprice line or kayak or whatever. Well
there's another one. And I didn'teven know Google is into the flight booking
business, but they are. Theyactually there is something called Google Flights.
They actually just released a new featurethat helps travelers better determine the right time
(50:30):
to book, and they just rolledit out this past week. There's some
new insights that are going to leveragehistorical trend data that lets you the consumers
see when prices have typically been lowestto their chosen destination on their selected dates.
I dig it. I like this, So now we get to know,
(50:52):
or get to gas whether it's betterto book your flight now or wait
for lower prices. Thinks about thisthe other day. There's I books and
plights coming up. We got Chicago, Dallas, London. We've got a
few things coming up here on theGARF schedule. When do I book?
And it's just generally you have tobook a month out, two months out,
(51:15):
three months out. And I thoughtabout this the other day because airline
pricing, it's dynamic pricing. It'sit's it's supplying to man. Man.
If you ain't nobody flying early inthe morning, let's just lower the prices.
You know you want to fly atnight primetime, you just we gotta
raise the price it And I thoughtabout this the other day. So because
I wanted to go to Vegas likelast night, I got some buddies of
mind and they were going to They'realready booked in Vegas and they said,
(51:37):
hey, man, Garth, comeon out like the day before. And
I'm thinking, and they're very expensive. You book a flight the day before.
Oh man, it's nasty. It'sjust it's you're really I mean,
I don't want to buy the wholeplane or the fuel. I just want
one seat on the freaking plane.I'm thinking, these airlines know within twenty
(51:59):
four their flight leaves within twenty fourhours, they know there's a ton of
empty seats. Why not just discountthem a bit to fill the freaking plane.
I mean, the plane is goingWhy fly with an empty seat versus
lowering the damn price. But thenagain, I guess if they do that,
people are like, well, we'renot gonna book it until the last
(52:22):
minute. I mean, okay,it's a it's a game. I get
the thing. What do I pointus? Let's get back to the Google
Flights. So Google says that ifthese new insights could tell users that the
cheapest time to book their trip istwo months prior to departure, it's it's
an unbelievable. Data is king,Data is everything. Google is brilliant.
(52:44):
I like this, Will I useit? Will I not? I?
Don't know. I generally find something. I fly Southwest. I'm an a
lister. I have a companion passwith no companion. By the way,
if anybody wants to apply for mycompanion seven one three two one two five
nine five zero. Hello, myname is Michael Ivan. What I'm saying
but the new understanding of whether ornot you're getting a best deal. You
(53:06):
need to look at data to seeif you should book now or wait for
a better price. All right. The feature works with other insights that Google
Flights, who I didn't even knowabout it already offers. It already gives
you the ability to see whether thecurrent prices for your search are low,
typical, or high compared to pastaverages. I will tell you this year's
(53:28):
flights, man, I know they'rehigher than last year. I'm not gonna
go with the COVID is over becauseallegedly it's coming back again. So go
check this. It's there's something calledthe cheapest time to book. It's a
neat insight that other flights flight savingsfeatures there. They were announced in the
(53:49):
Google I saw this on a blogpost on Google. Oh, by the
way, looking for Christmas flights, average prices have been the lowest seventy one
days before departure. Okay, soChristmas, that's what two months, two
and a half months, So you'relooking at mid October. That's when you
need to book your Christmas flights.Who wants to go somewhere with Christmas for
(54:10):
me? Set with me? Sevenone three two, one two five nine
five. Oh, send me anemail with your picture, your age,
your dimensions. Maybe you could bemy companion. Look, I'm starting my
you ever heard of online dating?I'm on air dating. I actually need
to start that match dot com jadeight, dot com be gone. It's
(54:36):
htt high tech text and on airdating. Seven one three two one two
five nine to five. Hey,match make good or match make good or
make me a match? It's whatI really should be doing. I have
no clue, So all right, that's uh, that's flight time and that's
the technology you should be using rightnow. Google one more Google thing.
I saw this Google search. SometimesI type things really quickly, and my
(55:00):
grammar is very, very bad.The next time you want a quick gut
check on whether a sentence and Ido this a lot. Listen, I
am a grammar nut. I don'thave a journalism degree, but I am
incredibly a stickler for journalism. Likewhen you call me and I say,
how is your day? Who's agood? When I say how are you
(55:20):
doing? Don't say I'm doing goodbecause I will hang up and I've hung
up on you before I'm doing well? Is the proper answer. Google actually
has started something called grammar Check that'sgoing to offer suggestions on whether a phrase
is grammatically accurate. You know that, you know that you know the sentence
that you use when you're typing thequick brown fox jump over the lazy dog,
(55:47):
and actually it's grammatically correct. It'sjumps, not jump. That's one
of the things that Google would do. When I'm writing something and I don't
know, and I'm very good withwords that have this spelling, were there
to there to there where to where? I'm good with that, but sometimes
you know, is there apostphe? You shouldnt be apostrophe? I build it
(56:07):
into Google. So Google now hasif you just type in a sentence on
Google Search, brower check actually helpsGoogle. You're getting free advertising on me,
which doesn't really happen. Listen whenwe come back if you're hungry and
in its football season. I lovefood. I love cooking. I love
grilling. I love smoking meats.I don't smoke. Nope, that's no.
(56:30):
By the way, that's another Hey, by the way, if we're
dating, we don't smoke. Thatis not a high tech text and feature.
But I do smoke some meats, and I have a smoker outside.
There is a there is a servicein town if you want to get farm
I'm talking got his own cattle, got his own processing, delivers it directly
to your door. Got an Australianaccent. You've got to give me about
(56:52):
three and a half four minutes, and you got to hear my interview coming
up with my man Anthony Thomas,Rodeo Cowboy. Also, he's got a
company that actually has the freshest, coolest Texas beef right here. You're gonna
absolutely love. We'll talk to himcoming up. You're back at it.
(57:16):
It is Michael garkvid is called theTech Texas Show. Open phone lines,

(57:37):
You know, I love me somefood. I love me some drinks
and everything. But you know,we got football season coming up right now
and is outdoor tailgating and things. And I always have guys coming over and
they're bringing their beef and their steaksand stuff like that. But if I'm
gonna eat some beef, I wantsome good stuff. I mean, I
want the highest in stuff. Andguess what I happen to find. I
(57:57):
foul a place here in h two, right here in Houston with a guy
who makes and he does his stakesand his beef from top to bottom.
He does it right. And Igotta tell you about this thing. And
I want, actually I wanted toget him on the phone, and actually
I do because we're gonna learn theABC's of the proper way to do red
meat. I want to bring inmy good buddy right now, Anthony Thomas.
(58:21):
He runs a company called Thomas Cattleand Catering. We'll give you all
the specs, we'll give you thephone number, we'll give you the website
later. But I knew this guybecause He's pretty famous in his own right.
He's like a rodeo cowboy. Thisguy Natalie rides all the bowls and
everything, but the dude knows everythingabout red meat. I want to bring
him right now. Anthony. It'sgreat to see. How are you and
I appreciate you coming on the show. Yeah, thanks Michael, thanks for
(58:44):
having me. I'm excited to behere and I'm excited to talk about our
find the Table beef business here inHouston. I'm gonna start with this.
I love the accent. I'm gonnaguess West Texas. Do I go Lubbick
or how far off am I?Yeah? A lot further south, man
lots further south. And I guessit ain't South Africa because we don't talk
about on that this show. CanI go Australia potentially? Yeah? Yeah,
(59:06):
Australia. So, long story short, I'm a professional rodeo cowboy.
I came to the Houston Rodeo yearsago to compete in the bareback riding and
I met a little Houston girl, and long story short, we got married
and now Houston's home. So I'velived here for six years. Love the
h represent Houston and professional rodeo andnow we have this amazing all natural farm,
(59:30):
the table beef business, Thomas Cattleand catering. Here. You can
go on and on and by tracks. And I've been a texting all my
life. I would rather have youraccent because it's pretty damn sexy, my
man. But I'll tell you whatwe're gonna go with the beef. You
do so much stuff in the rodeocircuit because you're around the beef and the
cattle, so understandably, you absolutelyknow what is going on. Why did
you get decide? I guess maybeis it a side gig or side hustle.
(59:52):
What's turning into a very very bigbusiness for you? Why get into
that beef business? Yeah? Look, so I've been a pro athlete all
my life. I actually ran awayfrom home at a young age when I
was twelve years old, and Iended up at a cattle station in Australia,
in the middle of nowhere, andso naturally I grew up raising beef
(01:00:13):
cowboy in tending to cattle, andbecause we lived so far from town,
we would butcher all of our ownmeat. Ended up at an all boys
boarding school was kind of a lastchance agricultural school for boys like meat,
and there they had a meat programalso to where the kids would butcher all
of the meat to feed us inthe boarding school. And so by design,
(01:00:36):
I grew up raising beef and alsobutchering my own food. And also
on the cattle station that I grewup on, we used to have a
dry season and a wet season,so in the monsoonal season, we couldn't
work on the cattle station. Guyslike me would go and work in specialty
butcher shops because that's what we knewhow to do, other than tending to
(01:01:00):
cows. And so from working inthe specialty butcher shops and the major packing
plants to raising beef and being acowboy, I've kind of put together this
business idea of a firmer table beefbusiness. So when I moved to America,
being a pro athlete, you know, I'm very passionate about not only
(01:01:22):
high quality of food. You know, I classed myself as a foodie.
But when I saw the chemicals inthe beef in the store bought beef over
here, and how different that wasto actually eating fresh beef, A light
bulb went off and I said, you know what, I love Houston I
call Houston home. I probably callHouston hope forever. I want to educate
(01:01:45):
Texans and Houstonians on what real beefis. And so through my connections in
Rodeo, we started ranching and westarted raising all natural beef of the highest
quality, and Houstonians called me up. And basically, we raise the animals,
custom butcher them, and then bringthem to your homes. Your phrases
(01:02:07):
at home in Houston. Like thewords you said, you said farm to
table beef. This is kind ofa catchall term that I've been hearing for
a number of years from restaurants tocompanies like years who do this for you
know, all types of animals andmeats, vegetables, whatever it is.
It's it's all listen. It's ahealthy way of it, and it's an
(01:02:27):
honorable way of doing it. AndI'm sure you get the questions, Anthony
all the time, because people seemto be brainwashed. They hear certain things.
Is it grass bed? Is itgrain fread? Is it? How
are the cattle raised in like that? So when you talk about farm to
table beef, let's start with howyou raise that cattle, because I'm sure
that's a big question that you get. Yeah, look it is, Michael,
(01:02:50):
thanks for asking. So consumers arebrainwashed by shows on TV and grocery
store lingo and so called nutritionists andstuff that that if you don't eat grass
fed beef, it's not good foryou, and that's absolutely not true.
Water is what actually is unhealthy foryou are all the chemicals and additives that
(01:03:14):
are in the store bought beef thatyou buy. So when we could go
on and down a rabbit hole foreverand ever about this, but when you're
when you're when you're finally buying aproduct at the end of the line,
a beef product at the end ofthe line from a grocery store, it's
got so much stuff pumped into it, contaminated in it, pathogens, there's
(01:03:35):
so many people that's touched the beefbefore it comes to your family freezer.
It's got red food dyeing preservatives init, say line in it to make
it heavy. When you do businesswith us at Thomas catl and Catering,
there's one person that's ever touched themeat before it goes to your freezer.
So it's a very intimate way ofknowing me and meeting me. The rancher
(01:03:58):
and getting your food for your familystraight from our ranch, straight into your
freezer. That one person who touchesit is the man I'm talking to him
right now. His name is AnthonyThomas. We're talking to him about it.
His company's called Thomas Cattle and Catering. We'll make sure we give all
the deeds here of how to contacthim afterwards. You talk about a ranch
in Texas. I believe I wasdoing some research over there. Wimer,
(01:04:19):
Texas is I believe where you raisethat beef and tell us real quickly about
raising it. But you raise itin one place, but then it's then
in that place you actually have tobutcher it. And I know you have
a top notch butcher in Texas. So what's the process of raising it and
then taking it to a butcher.Yeah. So, because I'm a first
generation rancher, I don't have acowhood, so we don't actually buy sorry,
(01:04:42):
we don't actually raise the car frominception. I actually have two to
three ranchers in the area that havethe highest genetics in Texas. And what
I do is I have a relationshipwith those ranchers and we develop the cattle.
We buy them as babies when they'reweaned off their mothers, we buy
them as calves and I actually developedthe cattle and an all natural feed program
(01:05:06):
that we have so our cattle areraised in grass pastures. They get to
eat grass when they want, theyget to walk on and off and migrate
on and off water as they please. And then we finished them on a
free choice or natural grain blend,so the cattle get to eat grain and
are finished on grain at their ownwill, which is completely opposite to the
(01:05:29):
beef that you buy from the store. So our cattle get the best of
both both worlds. They're always ina relaxed state, and that's where you
get that supreme tenderness and marveling fromas opposed to buying your beef from the
store or anywhere else. I'm onyour website. The pictures of here are
just unbelievable. I mean, people, if you want to, you actually
see it. Just a beautiful pieceof steak or meat or different cuts.
(01:05:51):
Which you're going to talk about hereis make sure we'll check out the website,
which I'll tell you. Let's talkabout the purchasing. You know,
I've seen a lot of these,Hey, listen, it's immediate these mail
order beef things and I'm going toget a few pieces of hamburger and some
steak. You're a little different. You're really big into Hey, we're gonna
get you a steer, and yousell things Anthony in quarter steers, half
(01:06:12):
steers, and the whole steers.Talk about this. It's why buying in
bulk does it save you money? And why why do you do it this
way? Why is it why isthis something you recommend? Yeah, So
the beef prices, as you know, are continually escalating all the time because
of certain inflation in the economy, and just the quality of beef is is
(01:06:33):
is always so wavering in here inAmerica, and so buying a steer from
us, you know where you're gettingyour families getting their food from. There's
so many perks to doing things thisway where you know, we strive for
the highest quality of beef because ofour genetics and our feed program, and
also because I believe we have thebest butcher in Texas. And so when
(01:06:58):
you buy a side of beef, not only are you beating inflation by cutting
out the middleman, you're filling yourfreezer one time once a year at a
set price, and then every timeyou go to have people over, or
you're having a barbecue, or you'recooking for your family, and you reach
into your freezer, it's the samequality meat every time that you're picking out,
and it's one animal. Our beefcomes from Texas. All of this
(01:07:21):
beef, all of our beef isborn, raised in butchered within an hour
of Texas. I got about aminute a minute and a half over here
real quickly. One of the thingsthat I like, would you have a
custom cut sheet? This is somethingthat blows me away. If you know,
when you when you order the quarteror the half, the whole steers,
you actually have something after you letit dry eggs, you talk to
the customer and you say, howdo you want your steaks? Do you
(01:07:43):
want them thick? Do you wantthem one inch? Do you want them
three inches? You let the customerschoose, pick and choose. Yeah.
So, with my knowledge of thebeef industry, I actually developed a very
elaborate cut sheet, and so Inoticed that when I came over here too,
then in the grocery stores that therewas a very limited selection of products
that come from the animal. Soout cut sheet adds all of the mainstream
(01:08:06):
cuts that most people know all about, Ribby's, Soloin's filets, New York
Strips, briskets, ribs. Butyou'll also get all of the gourmet cuts
that you'll only find a high endrestaurant or a specialty butcher shop, and
even some of them haven't even heardof the cuts that we have, So
stuff like flat irons and pecanyas andDelmonicos and Denver steaks. These are steaks
(01:08:28):
that you'll get from our animals thatadd a lot of value to your purchase.
And they're actually better than the filetand the notorious Ribi and the New
York strip that most people don't evenknow about. So when you order a
steer from us, we will gothrough the cut sheet, muscle group,
my muscle group, and you'll getto completely customize how you want that animal
cut up. I am the hightech text and Anthony Thomas is the king
(01:08:50):
of all meat. You have tolisten to all this stuff. This is
unbelievable. What a great story,Anthony. I'll tell you whatever the next
few weeks. I'd love to haveyou back on again. This is a
great time to do something like this. This is a holiday season coming up
between September, October and November,Simber. I mean I've got an open
freeze. I've got two. Listen, Texans have two freezers. I've got
one of the garades that extra one. Why not get a quarter, a
(01:09:11):
half or a whole steer over thereand put it in there. I love
what you're doing, and I justthought it was a very interesting story.
Last question here, my friend,if anybody wants to get in contact with
you, how about a phone numberin a website? Yeah, thanks,
Michael. Two eight one six fourfive nine two three seven is the phone
number to call me to talk tome personally about getting you a custom side

(01:09:36):

It's two eight one six four fivenine two three seven. And when
when when he picks up the phone, you're gonna hear this dreamy Australian accent
and he's gonna be able to sellyou anything, because I'm gonna buy anything
you're selling with that damn accent. My man. I want I want that
(01:09:56):
accent. I need to start hangingout our auality anymore because that's a great
way to meet people. Hey,listen, Anthony Glassing your success, talked
about it. You are phenomenal andI cannot wait to actually take some of
your beef. And I know you'regonna get a lot of a lot of
new customers from this from our chat. Yeah. Look, thanks for having

supplier. We want everybody to meetthe rancher and we want everybody to know
(01:10:18):

I love it. It is ThomasCattle and Catering dot Com two eight
one six four five nine two threeseven. If you want some beef,
there is your man, Anthony.Congrats and your success. We are going

(01:11:21):
fresh. I still have got myreal hair. I don't color it.
I still run. I gotta keepin shape. That's how we do.
I'm just giving my stats here.Should I continue on the the on air
dating service, not the online datingservice? I really need to trademark that
it's a you know, a littlematchmaker action here on the High Tech Texting
Show thanks to Anthony Thomas. Anthonyis married, by the way, ladies,
(01:11:43):
Anthony who is a rodeo cowboy originallyfrom Australia. Did you not dig
that accent? Anthony was talking abouthis meat company here in the Houston area,
the Thomas Cattle and Catering dot com. Do you want some fresh meat
that is literally from the farm toyour table? This cat is good.
(01:12:05):
I actually got some lean beef andsome certainline stakes that I am gonna put
on the Bobby. Oh, Igotta talk about the Barbie music. I
forgot about. I put on theBarbie for our football season that's actually starting
next week, the annual. Ohbut we've got about a week to the
first Cowboy game. It's an annualthing. You have to be on a
(01:12:25):
very exclusive private guest list to beinvited to my house for the very first
Cowboy always for the past several seasons, these first Sunday night football game.
It's the and generalist the Cowboys Giants, which it will be. So if
you know where I live, stayaway. We will have security and I
will have some filets from Thomas Cattleand Catering dot Com. And you need
(01:12:46):
to get that too. So Ido think for Thomas to do that,
do I want to? I mentionedthe word Barbie, by the way.
I I hate ragging on things, but I'm gonna give you my opinion.
People think, Oh, Michael, all you know, you see the all
you talk about is good stuff.Oh, I see, I see,
And I thought I have some crappystuff. Sometimes it doesn't make care.
But I gotta throw this out toyou. I finally saw Barbie the movie
(01:13:11):
only because I wanted to see thehype. My sister, younger sister had
Barbie's. I think I had aken dollar. I think I did too,
And I understand that the marketing ofBarbie was spectacular. It came out
in July, and it was amovie, and the Barbie Movie from Warner
Brothers should go down in history. Is one of the best marketing case studies,
(01:13:36):
maybe since the launch of the iPhone, anything that Nike has done,
or anything. And I'm gonna tellyou quickly why. It was brilliant marketing,
so much so that Barbie is thenumber one movie of the year so
far, the number one movie worldwide, the number one movie in the history
of Warner Brothers with over one billiondollars in ticket sales worldwide. It was
(01:14:00):
one of the worst movies I've everseen in my life. I'm not a
hater. I love Margot Robbie. She is gorgeous. Ryan Dasling good looking
dude. I think he's funny.I knew kind of what the expect going
in. It was horrific. Waitfor it until it comes out online on
(01:14:23):
streaming. But I wanted to seethe height and I say I wasted four
dollars. I saw it last Sundaywhen it was national set him a day
when all movies were four bucks.I don't know if he missed that last
Sunday. You ever say I wasted, I would literally waste it four dollars.
I just it was I mean WillFerrell low. I will see almost
everything Will Ferrell does. Absolutely,I'm embarrassed for Will Ferrell to be in
(01:14:46):
that movie. He was horrible. And I'm I'm not getting political. I'm
not doing the It was a menbashing women overpowerment. No, no,
Howard Howard a women. I justdidn't understand what Greta Gerworg that director was
trial Was it a sentimental thing atthe end? How here's the history of
the Barbie dog came in? Itjust it was stupid. I'm sorry,
(01:15:08):
and I really want I went inwith such an open mind. There there's
my Barbie rant. Feel free.I'm not answering any more phone calls.
I am I doing so feel freeto ragaming. Nope. And I haven't
seen Oppenheimer. And if I've seentwo movies, three movies all year,
I know when a movie is supposedto be like not good? All right?
We continue what else do you wantto talk about? Oh, let's
(01:15:28):
talk about food. I love pancakes. I don't eat a lot of pancakes.
There's a lot of carbs. Igo to I Hop went every two
or three years. What's the gosh, how long has it been? I
Hop does a pumpkin pancake? Ishould actually go over here and I talk
about this. Here's the technology spinningshut up stand by eight. I Hop,
(01:15:55):
which also did a classic marketing moveabout two years ago, changing its
name to I Hob House of Burgers, but it was a fake when now
they're back to ie Hoop, theInternational House of Pancakes. They just announced
plans to launch an AI artificial intelligencerecommendation engine that will suggest food orders to
you. Yep, I think they'reusing a Google Cloud something like that.
(01:16:20):
They're finding out that eye Hoops toGo business makes up more than twenty percent
of the brand's total sales. Andif you're when you're order, you listen.
This would be good for like oneof my kids, one of my
one of my three boys. Wego to a restaurant and this dude just
will look and he'll take ten minutesto decide what he wants to eat.
(01:16:40):
And I just want to strangle thekid. God love him, love them
all, but like make up yourfreaking monument. There is an AI recommendation
thing when you're online to recommend what'sgoing on. So, if you're a
customer that will order from ie Hoop, you were going to see personalized suggestions
based on your preference and promotions inpricing. I guess this is the way
Amazon does it. Hey, we'venoticed that you'd ordered a hair dryer an
(01:17:04):
Amazon. Would you like some shampoo? So let me give an example.
So if you're an ihop customer whohave previously ordered a spicy dish, you
may get recommended the Pablano eggs benedictas a recommendation. There's other businesses that
do this too, And I saythis is because this is where AI is
going. Windy's, Carl's Junior,Hardy's, they've been testing on AI and
(01:17:30):
drive through Windows, Door Dash. They're developing an AI service for customers recommend
restaurant orders over the phone. Ihave no problem with this. If I
own a business, I want tofind as much data as possible. If
you're ordering tickets online, I needto know what concerts you're seeing, what
your age group is how often youorder them. If I'm if I have
(01:17:51):
a fast, if I have anyrestaurant, I want to use some AI.
Not that I'm rying to save jobs, because I wouldn't you know.
We still need people to cook, take orders, wash dishes or whatever.
But I want to make as muchmoney as possible. I want to upsell.
Oh you generally get fries, Maybeyou want to try my new Truffle
(01:18:14):
fries. What's your ordering back? And that's what data has done. And
this is why I know every singlepiece of information about you, my dear
listeners. I know where you live, I know how much money you make,
I know what operating system you're listeningon your phone. And I am
pretty much halfway lying right now becauseI do think anybody who listens to this
radio show to keep me active andkeep my mind going for well over two
(01:18:39):
decades, Calum Read, thank youso much for pushing the buttons to keep
us. If you want to listento the entire show, he's about to
post it online on iHeartRadio dot com. It's the podcast you've listened to two
full hours. Thank you to allour sponsors for keeping this free. That
as Johnny Tamali's in Missouri City,Great tex mex. We've got us coins
and jewelry. We've got Astounds, which is by searching Gine Optimization and company
(01:19:00):
who designs my website. That's Astoundswith a Z. Everybody who's been part

Sherman just celebrated his birthday, BrianEricson who's overseas our AM radio stations,
and everybody else who has been apart of this. People, you now
