Speaker 1 (00:03):
This is the Kelly Golden Show podcast powered by Disaster Plus.
On a big failed Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Big Fail this Friday. Senator Matt lieberd not you welcome in?
Speaker 3 (00:15):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Ben?
Speaker 3 (00:16):
I'm great? Thank you for having me on most important topic.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
It's just starting in Colombia with your news session ushering in,
so you're not a big fail just yet, but we
shall see. So let's get into this. Wow, mailer, it
looks like your entire district just recently got about Henry
McMaster's cabinet pick as director for the Department of Health
here in South Carolina, doctor Edward Simmer. It all but
(00:40):
depicts them as a corrupt fauci clown. So what's going
on here? What's so controversial about this guy?
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Well, interesting enough was stop doctor Simmer day up here
in Columbia and the lobbies and hallways were full of
these guys advocating titioning their government for grievances. And that
would be the selection of doctor Simmer for this the
new Department of Health that we created. And I and
then full agreement with those that came up. I've gone
(01:06):
public about a month ago. Stay and I'm a noe
for this guy and I've even taken a step further
than that. I have boyed all of his text messages
and emails from the COVID era. So I'm sure there's
going to be some good stuff in there, and I'm
gonna be questioning him at the hearing.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
So much like the cabinet pics that are happening on
a national level with Trump and his incoming administration, our
own governor is doing the very same thing. And in
this instance it's for the director for the Department of
Public Health here in South Carolina. So what's the background
with doctor Edward Simmer? Why if he's a corrupt Fauci clown.
You know my question, really, Senator leiber is, would our governor,
(01:45):
our red state, conservative Republican governor, nominate this guy?
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I don't know the complete answer to that. I did
talk to the Chief of staff in person last week
about this nomination, and you're right, it's just like what's
going on in Congress this week, and we're going to
be cranking up these hearings as well. There's four or
five that are going to be right after the inauguration.
But I asked, and I asked that question to the
point blank. I said, why are we nominating this guy?
(02:12):
And the chief of staff stated that the governor felt
like he did a good job at d HECK and
that he wanted to just stick with the horses he
rode in on, I guess, but he also mentioned that,
you know, just like Trump's nominees in DC, that they
have to stand on their own and sort of win
when the whole case through nomination sort of like he accepted,
(02:36):
which is just fantastic, and his other nominees, and the
only thing that the chief of staff sort of mentioned was,
please don't make it a circus. But they expect him
to get a full grilling and he is going to
get a full grilling. Back in the COVID era, this
guy was really happy with children being masked. He was
a real huge proponent for vaccinations for all ages. I
(02:57):
sort of call him a Covidian. He really bought in
the whole COVID scam elements that were COVID. COVID was
a serious flu disease, but we sort of took that
out of context and a lot of government entities became
sort of tyrannical with it and used it as to
create their own little fistoms. And that was why I
grew interested in public lives and running for office was
(03:18):
because of just my just discuss with how governments operated
during COVID, and this guy is he's one of those.
So this is right in my wheelhouse. When I get
this Foyer information back, I mean that the age has
learned that I've done this for you. So that's why
I'm going ahead and going public with it, because it's
part of the whispering around Columbia. Now that's been a
(03:40):
leaver has foya him for all this information. So if
they're if all the sort of elites and Columbia going
to know about it, I figured my folks back home
needed to know about it, So I'm letting them know.
Now go on public about that, and whatever I get back,
I'm going to use. I thought to Center Fernandez, who's
also gone public already that he's in opposition. I said,
you're going to to get some of these good information
(04:02):
from this Foyer request he used during the hearings. Senator
Josh Kimbell's already say that he's in opposition, so I
know that we three will be grilling our guy hard
when the hearing begins, and I think we're going to
get some more folks that are going to be joining
us in opposition. That the problem is there's only forty
six Senators, there's twelve Democrats, So all this guy needs
(04:24):
is twelve Republicans to be in support. That's twenty four
he would pass, and he would take up the helm
of that new department. And so we're going to fight
as much as we can to ensure that doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
So look atry Senator Matt Lieber with us here on
ninety four to three WSC Foyer is Freedom of Information Act,
So this could uncover any text messages that he's made
on his state issued phone there, which will be very interesting.
You don't have any of that back yet.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
No, they have notified us had ten days to notify
that they are in receipt. They have like twenty to
twenty five days spending on how old the documents are
to get those sent to us in my office. So
we're expecting that in the next couple of weeks, which
will be plenty of time to go through the information.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
When does he sit before the Senate on these hearings.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
We don't have a set calendar date for that yet,
but it's going to be soon. He was in the
Senate building yesterday in the office building conducting interviews with
other senators. Hadn't gotten to me yet, but I'm sure
he will because I'm on Senate Medical Affairs, so I
know it will be at least coming to everybody on
medical affairs.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
You mentioned twelve Republicans. That's all it takes for him
to actually get his confirmation. Where are the votes any ideas?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
I haven't really counted yet. And that's assuming that all
twelve Democrats will be in support, which is a great likelihood.
But in that Foy request, we ask for any communications
with the WHO, the CDC, all these other organizations. Doctor Faucie.
We're going to get all those communications, and I just
know that there's going to be some stuff in there
that's not going to shine well for this guy. I
(05:59):
respect that, you know, he's a professional, and we just
disagree philosophically. And that's how I told the chief of stuff.
I said, why can't, well, why couldn't we just have
a forty year old that goes to the gym, eats
a healthy and takes care of himself and doesn't see
a virus around every corner? Why can't we have that
guy running this new health department instead of someone who
(06:20):
still to this day walks around the State House wearing
a mask. And you know, I believe you should have
the freedom to wear a mask or take a vaccine
if you like, But I don't necessarily want someone wearing
a mask and taking every booster shot to be in
charge of our health department.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
So State Senator Matt Lieber, if you had the votes,
given the fact that it's a red state, red legislature
in the House and the Senate the only options, and
he's voted down, I mean, this would be a black
eye for our governor who nominated him. Unless what he
withdraws this nomination. Is that something that could be possible.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
It's a possibility, It's always a possibility. You know, he's
going to know what the information that I'm getting and
if some of that is going to be tough to
answer to. I mean, that's one of his options, is
to withdraw all his name. It's going to take twenty
four senators to block him, and so I'm going to
do all I can with my questioning to give those
other senators the courage to vote. Know for doctor Simmer,
(07:17):
I feel like I will be able to deliver that debate.
I'm looking forward to it. I'm gearing up for it.
We're going to study what we get back. You know,
the Chief of Staff said to you know, as well
as is a fair nomination hearing and it's you know,
it's not a complete circus, then that's just the process
and we'll move on and we'll nominate somebody else. And
so that's what I'm gearing towards and hoping for.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
So if not doctor Simmer, then who.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Well, we have a few folks that we're talking to,
and I know that Senator Josh Cameron's really been spearheading
that effort, so the rest of us can do these
other things. So I think that anybody that he would
suggest to the rest of it is probably going to
be more in line with our philosophy for heading this department.
You know, it's going to be an improvement. And I'm
(08:00):
looking forward to those nominees. But you know, I'm spending
my time in resources in brain cells on being able
to give this guy a strong hearing, questioned his philosophy,
sort of exposed what he believes in hopes that we
defeat him. So I do would appreciate my constituents knowing
that I am in a complete opposition because I'm probably
getting thousands of emails right now, and that's that's part
(08:22):
of the system, and that's fine. Do know this Center
Lib is a complete noe for this guy.
