Speaker 1 (00:00):
This tell Me Something Good. Tuesday edition on that Kelly
Golden Show podcast is brought to you by Matt O'Neill
real Estate.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I can't think of a better person to share national
have a bad day day with than Matt O'Neil of
Matt O'Neil real Estate. How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
What's up, Kelly? I'm having the worst day.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
He's not. Matt is so many things. You're a father
of four, you're a husband, you have, you know, created
a company that's global and so wildly successful. And in fact,
something you just shared with me a bears roof heating.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah. So, the Charleston Regional Business Journal and the Greenville
Regional Business Journal named Matt O'Neil Real Estate the number
one company to work for out of four hundred and
seventy thousand small businesses in the state of South Carolina.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
That's amazing. Why do you think that is?

Speaker 1 (00:51):
I'm very happy and I treat people with a lot
of respect and generosity and kindness. In fact, when you
walk in the office, the word kindness is right on
the wall, yep. And people like to be treated that
way for some reason. I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
It's a wild concept. Isn't it being happy? My last
name is real, This isn't an on air name, Kelly Golden.
The Golden rule is to treat others as you would
want to be treated, right, And it's amazing how far
we've fallen from that that we actually have to have
a national have a bad day day, you know, so
from real estate to a good Moods revolution, quite literally,

(01:27):
Matt has written a book, you have a podcast. There
are so many things about you that people don't know
as we peel back the layers.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Yes, and I've worked for four years on the book
Good Mood Revolution, and it is publishing now. It's just
now coming out. I'm so excited about it.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Me too.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
I've been on sixty different podcast interviews in the last
few months just talking about the book and how people
can feel happier.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Well, the word revolution in a good mood is all
a discussion into itself good moods, but the word revolution
is about rebelling against the norm. And how sad is
it that we've come to a norm where we have
to remind people that we want to be happy. It's
okay to be happy, it's okay to have a good day,
it's okay to have a bad day, but we don't

(02:12):
need to be.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
The whole day, right, Yeah, I think that. I think
people have been in bad moods for a long time,
like thousands of years. And Delvin of the book, No,
I don't talk about the history of bad moods. But
my family and I visited Ireland in April and we
saw the history of the Irish people, and it was
a pretty bleak history.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
I'm Irish on both sides, you know.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I'm very Irish myself.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah, and we're also very happy people, even though they
were the fighting Irish.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
I'll tell you, in Ireland, this is the first time
in the history of Ireland that they're finally a little
bit of peace. And so here in the United States,
at this point in time, we really have all the
reasons to be happy. Yeah, And yet because we haven't
been happy for thousands of years, I don't think people

(03:01):
really know how to. And happiness is a skill. It's
not just a feeling when every single thing in the
world goes right and goes your way. It is a
skill that on national have a bad day day, you
know how to not have a bad day or turn
the frown upside down. And feel good instead.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
See, I love that because I'm the type of person
that no matter how negative you may be, or how
bad it feels or could be, I look for that
silver lining. I look for something that is positive in it,
even the worst. I try to see the best in people.
Where people are like, oh my gosh, Kelly, they don't
deserve that, or you know, people will come at you

(03:38):
in all kinds of ways with the negativity of trying
to see the best in someone.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, that's actually the first good mood in the book.
So the books divided into two parts. The first half
of it is about how to not be in the
eight bad moods. And there's only eight of them.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
There's only eight.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
There's only eight. We can do this, people, we can
get out of these eight bad moods. Okay, But one
of those moods, this mood of guilt. Also, the flip
side of that is judgment, And anytime we're judging someone
or criticizing someone, we are in a bad mood ourselves. Sure,
So my first good mood is a good mood of humility,

(04:16):
and it says we don't really know their story, we
don't really have the authority to judge or criticize them,
and if we stop criticizing them and look at ourselves instead,
we can turn it around. But a very clear way
to get out of a bad mood. As soon as
you notice yourself judging someone, criticizing someone, pointing the finger,
blaming someone, look in the mirror. That's the moment to

(04:39):
turn it around and say, wait a minute, I'm pushing
the blame outside of me, which means I'm being a
victim at this point, and I'm not happy like that.
So what can I do today to look at myself
and how could I improve rather than trying to improve
everyone else?

Speaker 2 (04:53):
See look in the mirror. Being in the public eye
and talking about all kinds of controversial things. I mean,
there will be times when people come up to and
they describe a person that they think is me, and
I'm like, wow, that's not me at all, you know,
and I realize they're kind of talking about themselves.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Always perception, always, every single wait a second, let's back
up here. Hi, my name's Kelly. Every single person is
a mirror of ourselves. We don't actually know them or
see them, We just see our projection of who we
think they are. So if I want to be really happy.
I want to see beautiful, lovely people wherever I look.

(05:30):
And if I want to be really sad and upset
or angry or disappointed, I want to see people who
are always making me sad, upset, angry and disappointed. So
I don't want to feel that way. So everyone, everyone's
really pretty cool to me.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
So happiness is a skill, and skills are things that
you actually have to practice and work on to get
good at. Yes, So this book, Good Mood Revolution, you
can get on Amazon now. Thank you, by the way
for my signed copy. I appreciate that so much, and
I will be digging into this, I imagine. Then get
it on Amazon. My mom does the Kindle and she does.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
All the and audiobook as well, the audio.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Books and all that stuff for her book club. I'd
love for my mom's book club to delve into the
Good Mood Revolution.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah, and anyone, any of your relatives that you know
are particularly like grading on your nerves this time of year,
and you see them perfect, perfect Christmas gift, and you
could be like, oh, you know, you could be a
little happier. Why don't you read this book. It'll teach you.
We'll teach you a few things.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Or just give it to them and let him figure
it out without saying a word. It's like, no more
needs to be sad.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Oh well, well, the reason I had to write this
is that I suffered from all these bad moods like
a lot, and I had to work on this and
work on this and work on this. And once I
figured out how to not be in bad moods all
the time, I figured, why don't I teach this? But
that's when we became the number one company to work for.
We weren't when I first started. Boy, I was an

(06:57):
angry guy, a short fuse. Things didn't always go right
around me.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
And every day was a national bad day.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
You know, for the people that worked with me in
the beginning, I would your.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Wife probably agree with me.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
I was pretty hard. I was pretty And actually I
talk about this. I had a coach and his name
is Scott Bird. He was on Daniel Island. And my
wife is up in the office with me next to Scott,
and Scott says, Katie, what's it like to be married
to Matt? And she looks at me and she says,
you know, some days I feel like I have to

(07:29):
walk around on eggshells. Because he's so stressed out and
so upset about everything in business that if I say
the wrong thing, he could just blow up.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Oh that must have hurt your heart.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
It was an awesome day. Yeah, it was a tough
thing to hear, but I needed to hear it. I
needed to hear it. And so coming from that to
now the number one company to work for out of
all the companies, well, it's been a lot, a lot
of you know, it's been a lot of study and
work on how to be happy. And that's what this
book now teaches us, how to be happy.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
So the first half is eight negative moods, and you
claim there are only eight bad moods there are, all right,
and the second half must be positivity.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, well the first half is positive too. You know.
It's like even the like you said, all the everything
has a silver lining.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
So when we're feeling one of these bad moods, it's
trying to teach us something. It's trying to tell us something.
If we're angry, that's a message. What are we angry about?
What do we need to do? How do we need
to improve ourselves? But the second half of the book
is positive. It's all about you know, how can I
live in more joy? How can I have more gratitude?
How can I be more confident in my life? And

(08:36):
that's what the second half of the book teaches us.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
And this is actually going to culminate with a happiness talk.
So I find this great that you can get good
mood revolution his book Matt O'Neill for moun O'Neil Real Estate,
and you can go to Amazon order it now and

then a Q and a.

Who needs this book? Literally? Everyone? I think it sounds like.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Yeah, I think honestly, I think I think democrats need
this book. Republicans need this book.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Yeah. Literally, I think that.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Men need this book and women need this book. I
think every single human being, husband's.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
Wives, parents, grandparents, friends, sisters, brothers.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
We can't be a human and not get into funks
and get into bad moods. But since no one teaches
us what they are and how to get out of them,
we just kind of think, oh, I just need to,
you know, shake it off. Well, you can't just shake
it off. Sometimes you're in a really deep, deep hole,
you think, and you need some help. And this book
has the tool, like actual action steps and worksheets and

(11:02):
things to actually get out of negativity when you get
into it.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
So, Matt, how about leave us with a positive story
of someone who's been revolutionized by your Good Moods podcast,
your journey here over the last four years that has
led to this book.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Oh it's every time I get those messages, it warms
my heart. And I had somebody to just emailed in
and he said, this book has changed my life. He's
a first reader. And he said, you know, I realized
that I needed to be better with my kids, and
I needed to be better with my wife. But this
is like actually showing me how to do it. And
then he turned around and he bought ten copies, one

(11:39):
for each person he works with to help them change
their life too. So that was that was a really
nice message to get.

Speaker 2 (11:44):

say to me, bless her. I love her to death.

(12:06):
But she is the most influential person in my life. Yeah,
but think about moms or you as a father to
your children, or.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
I'm so close to my mom. And she read it.
She was My mom was one of my first readers.

Speaker 2 (12:18):

a long time, so I knew you before the Good
