Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Wednesday friend. Welcome to the Thought Shower.
Intern John is my name. We are now a weekend.
The Chewy Forever album officially been out a week which
means a week ago today. I woke up, saw the
album came out a day early. Saw the album was
at number two hundred on the chart. Thought that I
failed everybody I knew, which it was not a great

(00:24):
day a week ago until I got home, refreshed it
before taking a nap and realize, oh, yeah, number one.
I'll never forget that moment too, because that basically just
clapsed in my bed and start to cry. I think
because the energy of thinking that it was a flop
to then seeing number one. So here we are a
week later. A lot going on. Hockey starts today, which

(00:46):
is crazy. You've been coaching hockey at Georgetown Prep now
for I believe this is year nine. I so our
first preseason skate is today. I'm excited. I had some
of the kids reach out like hey, coach coming Wednesday, right,
I go, yeah, why?

Speaker 2 (01:02):
They go the boys ra shape.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
I'm like, oh boy, that's gonna be fun because last
year wasn't able to make a bunch of the preseason
skates because of other work commitments this year, I'm excited though.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Coaching is one of the most fun things to me.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
I was talking to somebody Let's probably the weekend about it,
and I said, like, for me, coaching is kind of
like the release. Like I do a lot of things
and I'm busy all the time. But even though hockey
is draining and hockey is uh, it's a big time commitment.
It's like, you know, six days a week. For me,

(01:36):
it's kind of like the thing that still brings me
joy and fun. Like I enjoy going to the rink.
I enjoy coaching. Winning's fun. Last year's season, we started
the season I think one in ten that was miserable
and miserable to in the sense of we were losing
games by like a goal, and that's almost worse than

(01:57):
being blown out because lose by a goals.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Like, go what one little thing can we tweak?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
And the boys got hot, you know, won the conference,
won the league, which is very exciting. So it's fun.
It's a lot of fun. So today it's kind of
like me waiting for work to be done so I
can go play with my friends, you know, like a
child back in the day, So I'm very much looking
forward to that. Let me get to this for your
Wednesday as well. The things that are attractive now when

(02:25):
it comes to choosing a partner, look at me, still
trying to figure it out. It's okay, we'll get there
one day, you know, I want to.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Go through these. I thought this was pretty good.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Starting with emotional intelligence, being able to read and respond
to emotions as a game changer. It means you recognize
your own feelings and those of others. Becomes a top
priority for a lot of people. And looking for a partner,
I'll say this especially given what I do for a living.
As I guess a semi public figure, whoever I date

(02:55):
kind of becomes a public figure by proxy.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
And so knowing that I.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Has somebody by my side who I can trust not
say something stupid or to be good in any situation
is a huge thing.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
I think it takes a special.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Type of person too, where it's like any time we
go out, like you know, stopping to take photos of
somebody or saying hi, and to kind of have that
and you know, I guess understand it's part of the process.
I guess it's part of the part of the of
the of the lifestyle, I guess. I mean the flip
side of that too, is understanding that if people weren't
stopping saying hi, that means nobody's listening to the show,

(03:35):
and that would be a not good thing. That'd be
in fact, very bad financial responsibility. Yes, yes, they say
it's attracted because it shows maturity and foresight. It's about
knowing how to budget, save and spend it wisely. I
think that my life a little bit different right because
I moved here when I was twenty two, so, you know,

(03:55):
lived on my own. How to figure out that stuff myself,
and I think that can be tough. I had a
girlfriend who lived at home hadn't moved out yet, which
no shame in that times are tough, But because of
that didn't quite understand why I would have a heart
attack at the thought of spending you know, five hundred
dollars at Target.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
It's like, yeah, I can't do that.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
I remember, like we go through Target and she would
show like this, you know, toothpaste hole or toothbrush holder
that was like thirty dollars and say you need this.
I was like, no, no, girl, you don't know the
difference between need, and want Like I don't need a
toothbrush holder. I have my hand in fact that can
hold toothbrushes. Fantastic. That's like we don't need that to survive.
Maybe it'd be nice to have we don't need to survive.

(04:39):
And I think having somebody because I mean that is
like the biggest business decision you make is like the
person end up with. That to me is huge. Kindness
made the list. They say, it's become even more significant
factor when choosing a partner. It's now what being Poliar
healthful was about. Genuinely caring for those around you. I
do think to me, like that that's a very attractive
feature when somebody is genuinely a kind person and they're

(05:02):
nice to people like that. To me, well, it's not
the fact that like that's representation of you certainly, you know,
I think that means probably be a good parent, just
a good person to be around. That's good vibes to
be around, especially too. I think, you know, my life
can be high stress. Having somebody as kind and kind

(05:22):
of like you know, take that stress away, I think
is a great thing. Sense of humor one hundred percent.
They say it's not about being a stand up comedian,
which I am. They say it's about being able to
smile and just laugh around your person.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
To me, that's so true.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
I've had access where doing the mundane tasks were like
the worst thing ever because they also just weren't a
good time. But then I've had access where like I
had a lot of fun with them, so we could
go to the DMV and knew we were gonna have
a good time.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
I think that's huge.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Having somebody that can make you laugh, can kind of
ease the burden of things that, to me, is the
most fun.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Life is tough enough as it is. Life's hard enough
as it is.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Why go through that if you don't have to, like
not having somebody to make things light? I think that
is I don't know, I definitely would want that. Having
a growth mindset, they say it's about embracing challenges, learning
from criticism, and persisting even when things get tough. They say,
people with a growth mindset see failures as opportunities develop
and improve.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I think I've again datid folks who are maybe too
afraid of that, too afraid to take the jump, and
that's just not me. But also I think having somebody
that mindset then will better understand me. I better understand
why I do certain things I do and try different
things and trying to get better. But I do think
it's like eventually we're growing for the team, you know,

(06:50):
growing for everybody involved. Independence made the list pretty obvious.
They say, a partner who can stand their own is
someone who brings their whole self to the relationship. They
have their own interest, goals and friends as meaning, so
not relying on you for their happiness. Yeah, I think
that's I can't be that. Like I had a relationship

(07:11):
where like I was kind of expected to be their
whole happiness, and I don't want to do that.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
I can't.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
That's an unfair standard to put on somebody like that
You're gonna be their only source of happiness. That's not
gonna end well, you know, like that to me, Like
I think sometimes folks get the wrong idea about me.
It's like, yeah, I can entertain, but like, well I'm
not on the show. I don't mind just kind of
being in the background, you know what I mean. I
think if I had to entertain twenty four hours a day,

(07:42):
I'd go crazy.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
So being with somebody who can do that. I think
that's amazing.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
And I also too, like if if I'm out at
like the bar, having somebody that doesn't mind if I
have to go talk to folks who are there, I
think that's obviously huge. Compatibility values, I mean that I
think would be almost impossible, right if you guys didn't

(08:06):
have the same values. I'm not positive how that would work,
you know, So we can just leave that one. Supportiveness.
They say having a supportive partner can make all difference.
It's about being there for each other, not just in words,
but in action, celebrate each other's successes, provide comfort during failures. Yeah,
I think that's that's huge. Especially again, this is just

(08:30):
obviously believe that I do these things as well, But
for me, having somebody who's supportive is a huge thing because.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
It's an interesting thing.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Like when you are in charge of things, nobody really
asks how you're doing, do you know what I mean,
It's not really a question that gets asked. When you're
a leadership role is how you're doing, And it does
often feel like nobody is checking in on you.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
And at the same time they're not.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Supposed to, right, like you're supposed to be like you're
the you're the boss figure, You're supposed to be in
charge of things and have your issue together. But it
can be nice then to know, like when he feels
like it's you versus the world, you have somebody that
has your back, and you have somebody that can you
can bounce ideas off of and just talk to you.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
That to me is one of the best things ever.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
I love showing up too, but even just like if
it's like for a jingle Ball in Sepvember at jingle Ball,
I had an ex who like I was like, hey,
I'm about to go on stage, like, you know, be ready,
and they went to the bathroom and I was like, damn,
that sucks.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Yeah, I mean because like that's like.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
A cool thing where it's like you get to see
us do our thing in front of, you know, a
soul out arena.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
It'd been cool to have that there.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
I mean obviously there at the show, but it's like, oh,
you couldn't have gone up when Eric was up there,
got ye, that's the time to go to the bathroom.
That guy's talking, you know what I mean. Anyway, I
hope you have a fantastic Wednesday. You can still get
the album Chewy Forever. Internsoncomedy dot Com benefits Warrior Canine
connection I'll see you Friday, but they

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
