Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, there's no easy way to get into this, but
if you follow me on Instagram at intern Job Radio.
Of course, on New Year's Eve, Chew he passed away,
(00:21):
and dude, I'm shattered. He was fifteen, almost sixteen sixteen
on Valentine's Day and he UH. The last couple of weeks,
he got in pretty weak. I got back from vacation,
(00:46):
I picked him up from UH daycare on a Friday,
and I could just tell he wasn't him. So then
you know, we spent the weekend together and then Monday
before New Year's I may have that appointment for that
Friday because I was like, something's off. New Year's Eve.
(01:09):
I had a gig for New Year's so myself chewing skills,
got a hotel and I called it that again. I'm like,
I don't think he's gonna make it to Friday. So
we had agreed on Thursday, and you know, he he
was just tired a lot, and so I had to
(01:30):
leave at six for my event and I made him
a little bed in my suitcase because he would always
get anxiety when my suitcase was out. Yeah, that would
leave him.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
He sent me a picture. It was really adorable, though,
he looked so happy.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah, So I made him the bed in the suitcase them.
I laid with him for a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
You had a nap, you had your last nap together.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah, But before I left LA with him on the
floor and I told him that if he had to
go was okay, then you didn't have to stay for me.
And I got back around like one I think, and
(02:29):
walked in. He wasn't in the suitcase. Skittles was acting
weird and then that's when I found him, and it's
been it's been a nightmare. Yeah, I'm very lucky. I've
I had SCHEWI basically his entire life. So my college girlfriend,
(02:50):
like a month before we started dating, her family had
raised shuahuas he was born, and I was always like small,
all dogs are stupid, But with Chewy, he just kind
of forced his way in, you know, it's kind of
like his way and he became my best friend right away.
(03:15):
I mean, my ex girlfriend, her sister at the time
a state and a guy who had a pit bull,
not a well trained pit bull, and the pit bull
came at me Chew we got in the way and
he was like three months old. So the pit bulls
looking like, what is this little dog doing? And then
uh yeah, I went to from Minneapolis, Des Moines for
(03:37):
radio by myself, and I'm very grateful than my then
girlfriend let me take Chewy with me and it was
me and him eating tuna packets for a year. I
used to bring him to work, and my boss, Gray Chance,
who another person I owe a lot to, was like,
you know, because in Des Moines we had her own building,
(03:58):
so it was a lot easier. He just go wherever,
and like Chewy had a mind of his own where
he would just walk around every guy attention, and so
Chance pulled me aside, like, hey, you can't have your
dog at work. But then uh the main secretary lady
made my working badge that said Shewy on it, and
then I was like, I fell, I can't. What do
(04:18):
you want me to do? He's part of the team,
you know, And then uh, no, I know, So I
bring him to work every day. When I was doing
the night show, he would sleep in the studio every
day and here's my sidekick. Man. We moved out here,
(04:41):
We moved several times out here, and uh, you know
it's I look back now, I'm like I was able
to do so much stuff because I had him. I
could have the worst day at work, the worst day
with relationship, is hockey whatever, but I would walk home
and he would shake that tail so quick it was
almost like he was gonna fly a way. In the
(05:03):
last two weeks. It sucks, Like I'm very blessed to
my friends and you guys reaching out, but it's like,
you know, fifteen years and this is the longest been apart,
and so I find myself like looking for him in
places he should be and he's just not there. Like
Soss came over one of the first days and your
(05:26):
pizza and I got up quick off the couch and
head him like, oh, I got so quick, He's gonna
for sure wake up and follow me. And I was like,
and I woke up that first Saturday and called in
the bed and he wasn't there. So that is it's
really hard. A lot of folks asking him about how
Skeets is handing it skittles, He skittles is. It's a
(05:50):
very smart dog and he can tell something's up.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
You know.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I've been watching a lot of like videos of him
and chew. He would cry all the time. That's the
sweet did for no reason. Then he won attention and
I played it in Skittles started howling yea, And their
(06:19):
relationship was funny. They'd known each other basically, Skills entire life.
Chewy kind of bullied Skills around a little bit, I think,
or at least just like wasn't different. I used to,
you know, Chewy with Chewy's food the last two years.
We went from dog food to grilled chicken, to grilled
beef to pulled chicken. Everything. But he'd still like he'd
(06:42):
eat his and go, I'm gonna go see what Skittles has.
And Skittles would have like this kibble stuff and so
you pour the metal balls. Sometimes little pieces will fall
off and Chew would just go and eat it while
Skills is eating. In like the last two weeks, it
has left the food in the floor. Yeah it's yeah,
(07:12):
it's a lot, and I owe you a lot, Shelby.
I was in shock, I think when I found him,
and uh, I don't remember. I know I talked to
you my parents on the phone and sorry that you
guys had to hear that. I can only imagine. But
(07:33):
you were his best friend. Yeah, I think you know
you came here eight years ago. You started, so Sauce
basically started watching Chewy for me when I go out
of town. And I'd always stick you with burning him
to the vet because I didn't want to be the
bad guy. Yeah. He spent countless holidays with your family
(07:53):
and your grandma and and I know your your brother
took care of him. I thank you for that, but
you were legitimately dude two and I.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Did everything together. When I moved to Atlanta, you let
me take him. Yeah. He was just like just like
his father. He was a cool old man with an
ad dude. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
He he was very aware of how much people loved him,
you know, and you think, yeah, now he.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
He'd walk out on stage and get like very close
enough that you could like maybe pat him.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
He's like, no, that's it. Yeah, So she would go
and then like yeah, he would. He would cry for
attention then be just have arms reached. She couldn't get him.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
I made his voice up for him because he cried
so much and be like I'm chilly and I'm sad.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
That was funny. The we did the comedy show in
Tampa and there was just like the last show the tour,
and I'm like ten minutes and I guess standing in
ovation and people are going crazy and I'm like, god,
I'm really good at this. I looked around she we
had walked down stage.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Eric, in my defense, was supposed to be watching him.
I know.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
It's I mean, you know I said this before, but
that little dude, he loved me so much.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
He literally like tried to tackle. He didn't try to
never bit or attacked anything. In was like, but he
tried to like stand up for you when he saw
a horse, which is.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Like, yeah, yeah, I mean I always choked. The three
s's and she were staring, crying and sleeping.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
If I was on the couch, he would be sitting
on the stairs staring. If I laid down the couch
is like sick nap time.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
But you had to invite him, yeah, oh yeah, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
He loved to be invited. I posted some of my
favorite memories on Instagram, and I have been I knew
people liked him. I've been blown away with how much.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I love Chewy.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
I've gotten so many messages and it's funny. Everybody has
a Chewy story. Yep. Molly's parents used to watch him
a lot too. I remember one time her Dad's like
I think Chewie has selective hearing, Like, what do you
mean He's like he only really listens to things he
wants to listen to. I'm like, yeah, that's my child,
that is that's that's him. Yeah, I'm I'm blessed that
(10:28):
he lived. I think, probably the best life of any
dog I know. He went to Salamander, he went to Tampa,
he went to uh Louisville, he went to Atlanta, he
went to Pennsylvania, Nashville, Des Moines. I mean he had merche,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
He had such a great life. I took him everywhere,
like all the pictures of me and Chewi were like,
I took him like all these like big land marks
in Atlanta. And then he tried Zaxby's together, So he
gets Zaxby's. He had to try my favorite chicken.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Well that'd be the worst too. It's like he would
cry for food and I give him like my food
that I made, and he'd spit it out like it
wasn't good enough for him. Yeah. You know what I
will say is I'm very blessed that I have no regrets.
The last two weeks have been the worst. I'm blessed
(11:25):
and I guess this is maybe like a I know,
a message to pet owners. But you know, for me,
being a single dude, I have no family here, he
was my world. Everything I did involved him, and I'm
like blessed that taking him for car rides, taking him
(11:47):
to work, taking him to if we go to our
friend Andrew Nemino's house, I did him walk around, or
if it was to Molly's family's farm, or like everywhere
I go, I'm blessed that. It's like I can't look back.
I should have done more with him. We did everything.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
Took him to Tampa, like he got to Yeah, he
got to play in the pool, like.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
He stopped in air plane on the runway. Once he did,
he sure did. Yeah, I'm I'm very blessed to his vet.
John Weston's like the nicest Guy's amazing.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Like when I took two weeks to the vet and
he said that he just acted like that because he
knew that I would give him attention.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Yeah, because he would stop eating if he wanted attention.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
I was like, he's not eating. John's been gone for
like a week and a half because it was during
the holidays, and he said he's only acting like that
because you'll give him attention. I'm like, sir, this man
has cut me up all night.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
But the one thing, I mean, the VET said, I'm
I guess take this as a lesson or what is that?
There's nothing more I could have done?
Speaker 2 (12:48):
No, definitely.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
He had a heart. Remember he had had seizures, and
the vets said that he probably only made it this
far because would.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Be that you did everything for him.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Yeah, it's it's interesting people ask like, how, what's how
you feel in the my ghit like shattered and lived
in a nightmare. Yeah, because he was just he My als
have been like my leg.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
You know, he's part of your soul, is how I
explain it to people. And I'm like, imagine just like
missing a part of like your life.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
So yeah, the one thing my mom said was at
least he went out in his own terms. Yeah, which
is true. But I also believe that he knew how
(13:51):
much he meant to me, and I think he knew
that if I had to make that decision, it would
kill me. Yeah, and I know that if he was
here these last two weeks he would really stress him out,
especially with the weather well that too, But just to
(14:11):
see how how much I miss him. Yeah, So I'm
gonna be real with everybody listening. I take this job seriously.
I know our jobs to entertain and you get things
wrong in your life too, But I'm gonna need some
patience for a while, man, because I am I'm not.
(14:34):
I'm not doing well. Every day there's something that pop
up and like instantly just come down in tears. Me
is this week? I text you? I think last night
saw it sounds like he's never coming home again, and
that's that sucks. But I was very lucky to have him.
(15:00):
He was lucky to have you too, And I'm to
everybody who you know reached out or came this show,
is I just thank you for loving my best friend
anytime he was sick, Like the amount messages that would
(15:21):
get like I it's it's been overwhelming to see just
how much he was loved by everyone. And yeah, I
miss him. So that's what's new with me? Yeah, dude,
I don't know. Again, I know this is not how
(15:43):
you want to start your Monday. I've been keeping this
bottles for as long as I could. I do like
I'm thinking of like ways keep his memory alive with
charity stuff. Been looking at different animal charities and so on.
But I guess if you have a pet, if you
(16:06):
could just give them a give them an extra scratch
for a show week tonight, I appreciate it. So there's
no easy way to transition. Not this, I realized that,
but yeah, thank you for loving my best friend and
I just missed him
