Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Monday friend. Welcome to the Thoughts Shower.
Intern John is my name? What a weekend it was?
I told some FIBs I had said on this podcast
and on the show that I was excited to go
to the woods this weekend, me and Skittles go into
the woods, get away for a little bit, you know, recharge.

(00:23):
That was a lie. Did not go to the woods.
Instead flew to Nashville see my mom for her birthday
and my dad. It was a high risk, high rewarded
move not telling them I was coming, because you just
never know with my family where they'll be. You know,
you would think they'd be at home doing your cross

(00:44):
or puzzle, some light reading, baking sourdough wherever it is
the old folks do. And so the plan was simple.
I had dropped off Skittles at doggy daycare. I was
like okay. I told my mom, Hey, like, you know,
I wanna call you Friday for your birthday. However, I
have a client meeting. I gotta see a client after

(01:06):
the show, and I was bummed about it. I told
her because the client meeting was going to delay me
going to the woods. So they said up, very well.
Guy at the airport. Called my mom said, I was
at the mall and that would like, you know, make
up for the sound in the back of my hand
at the mall. Wanted to call you from my meeting.
So on and so forth. Land Nashville, get my vehicle, drive

(01:29):
to my parents' house, and I might go. No car
in the driveway, Okay, perhaps is parked inside. Let me
ring the doorbell. Ring the doorbell. Here it go ding
dong on the inside. And I wait. I hear nothing
moving on the inside. I'm like, okay, maybe and hear
me ring a doorbell again. Nobody comes. I'm like, well, okay, yeah,

(01:52):
maybe they're outside. Sure. I opened the garage door, but
the code opened the garage door. No vehicle in the garage.
My well, this is interesting, this is uh. I ain't
quite intent on this happening, and got my key. I
opened the door. I can hear my dad talking to somebody.

(02:12):
I'm like, oh, I can tell he's on the phone.
So I walked to my parents' bedroom. My dad sees
me in the doorway and says, and I quote, who
are you? Now? I just kind of stand there and display.
He goes, who the hell are you? And he finally
realizes me. I'm like, what is going on? What is happening?

(02:36):
Who else would it be come into the house through
the garage on my mom's birthday weekend? Who else would
it be? My mom at the time was out at
the aesare, so she had no idea. It was kind
of funny, but also like, yeah, this is about right,
you know, try to surprise somebody they're not there. It

(02:58):
worked out fine, though. I took a nap before my
mom came, and it was a fun weekend in Nashville. So,
you know, Friday night Pete's Night with my dad's side
of the family. Saturday just kind of hung out and
vibed a lot of times in Nashville, like I'll see
a bunch of friends and it becomes kind of like
a marathon. This time is kind of nice because I
wanted to stay at the family and like, I'm just

(03:19):
been exhausted recently, so did that. So it was a
fun time in Nashville. And then flying back flight was delayed,
which is great. You know. My thing with airlines is
I hate when it's like your boring time is, you know,
three thirty, three thirty, and then it's like three thirty
five and there's no update that your flight's gonna be late,

(03:42):
so like we were supposed to borrow a three thirty
five something like that. No boarding. I get to the gate,
no plane. I go, well, this is interesting. And then
you open up like the app and you can track
where your plane is and it's like, oh, your plane
is twenty minutes late. But they don't tell you we're
taking off from you know, because I'm like here, I'm like,
all right, I ain't supposed to be here fifteen minutes ago.

(04:03):
Flight's supposed to take off in ten minutes. It's still
not saying delayed. Huh, how's that gonna work? And then
when the flight landed, the guy sitting next to me
got up right away and they went over the intercom like, hey,
you need to sit down. We haven't finished taxiing yet.
I'm like, ooh, busted. So that was my weekend. I

(04:24):
do need to get away to the woods soon from
my own mental, and that trip's gonna be tough, Like
that's gonna be a tough trip. The first time going
to the Woods without Chewy in seven years of me going,
you know, so that that's gonna be a tough one.
The trip is tough too. You know, I was watching

(04:45):
the doggy daycare Skills goes to. There's like a camera
you can watch and usually you know, when Chewy and
Skittles will be in the same pen, right doggy there's
a giant like dog play area. Skills be all over
the place, run around. You know, there's like a little
like place where he'd kind of ru up and be
king of the castle like Skills kind of ran the yard,

(05:07):
and then she would she would just hide underneath like
the little thing scales standing on. It was different this time,
you know, Skeet's morsel laying off to the side, laying
on the mat. I think, like, you know, for him,
I think it's been tough. I think he always knew
that if I left for somewhere, but Cheweye was with him,

(05:30):
he knew I was coming back. I think one of
those types of vibes where it's like, Okay, yeah he's away,
but Chewy's here, so I know that he'll he'll for
sure come back. That was tough to watch. So I
don't know, I've been People have been asking me a lot,
like would you want to get another dog? And it's
a bit of a. I don't know, you know, it's

(05:54):
Grief's so an interesting thing because it sucks still is
it's been two months and it's still just as bad,
and you know, there's people and like not that that
people even but will pop up in like TikTok where
it's like how lucky were you to have a love
that hurts this much? And it's like, yeah, you know,
saying that now doesn't quite make it feel better. Saying

(06:19):
that when he was alive, that was a little bit better,
but now it's like that's a pretty big hole just
kind of ripped away, you know, to where it's like
I was thinking this last night becuse Skittles doesn't like
to sleep in bed and chewetwood all the time, and
that was one of my favorite things, Like I need
an other dog just for me to have in bed,
you know what I mean. So I don't know. I

(06:44):
do believe in the sense of like I wouldn't leave
today and go dog shopping. I do think that when
that dog comes, I'll just no, I don't know if
it will be a shelter, if it'll pop up my
timeline or what it is. But that's also like an
odd balanced too, because It's like what kind of dog

(07:07):
with Skittles vibe with And he wouldn't want to dog
his size. I don't think he's very protective, very protective,
you know. I was lucky. My friend Casey, who works
at the station, picked him up yesterday and I was like, hey,
whatever you do, Like by all me is take him
for walks, taken whatever, but like be careful with him
and other dogs because he's very protective. He will if

(07:29):
another dog comes up to you, he will defend you,
which is like one of the greatest things about Skittles.
If you're standing, like if I'm standing in the bathroom,
he stands in the doorway and faces out. Now I've
said this about dog owners before. Sometimes dog owners are
just as bad as cat owners. Yeah, I'll never forget.
There was like a dog or in our neighborhood we
were walking in like the owner left them off the

(07:51):
leash for some reason. The dog came running as Skittles
and I like, I had to pick Skittles up because
I was like, yo, and Skills is a border call.
He's a big boy. I'm like, Yo, what are you
doing now? It's like hahha, Like hey, you know, like
that's not like you put your dog in danger and
my dog in danger because my dog sees your dog
running after him. It's no different than if a random

(08:13):
human you don't know takes a run at you. You're
not assuming they're running to you to say hi, you know,
You're assuming they're runn at you to like knock you out,
you know what I mean. So I think that for
squits like he probably needs another small dog, and for me,
like my own mental like I love the Burmese mountain dogs.
I think they're gorgeous dogs. They kind of look like
Saint Bernard's in a way. They're black, they're gold and

(08:36):
like they're white. I think those dogs are great. Their
lifespans are only six years old, like six years, which
is on the high end. I can't do that, you
know what I mean, Like Schewey going basically sixteen years.
That's what I need again, because I can't be a
shreddy yet, you know. Anyway, it was a fun weekend.

(08:57):
It was a good weekend. But yeah, I pulled off
the Oki doki surprise my parents. The plan is I
need to go to the woods soon. I need to
go away. I want to do some more like trips
like in general, like I wanted to go to Louisville
because I wanted to go to Buffalo Trace to see that.
So I might go there in a few weeks, just

(09:18):
kind of get away. I want to go places that
haven't been Yeah, it's like now that hockey's over, like
that was a great distraction from losing Chewy because hockey
was every day. Now it's a little more like, Okay,
we really gotta pick ourselves back up. So openness suggestions too.
There'summ rush a visit. Please you can DM me at
Internjohn Radio. Have a fantastic Monday. I'll see a Wednesday.
