Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Friday friend. Welcome to the thought shower.
Intern John is my name. Was a crazy last twenty
four hours. So Wednesday, hockey season kind of unofficially officially
started our first preseason skate, which is going into year nine,
which is always a lot of fun. It's fun to
(00:21):
see the kids, it's fun to be around the game again,
to be with the other coaches.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
It's just kind of fun.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
It's like the first day of school, excited to see
your buddies, excited to see how things go.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
So there's that.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
I got home though on Wednesday and got an email
from the Grammy Awards and I was like, well, this
is interesting. The Grammy Awards won't me And it was
to inform me that my twenty twenty four album, Intern John,
the album is up for consideration for a Grammy nomination,
(00:55):
which is crazy. So the Grammys do it a year behind,
I guess is how we're so like the window was like,
I don't know, July this year, that's their calendar year.
So my first album, which is called Intern John, the
album is officially in consideration for a Grammy, which that
(01:16):
sentence doesn't sound real. Yeah, just saying out loud again.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
There's been a couple of things the last few weeks
or the last week. I guess really that I haven't
quite payable wrap my head around. Number one is my
Chewy album going number one. Number two is the intern
John album, which was number one last year being number
two to the Chewy album, and now the Intern John
album being in consideration for a Grammy. Do I think
(01:47):
I'll get the nomination? I mean, I think the chances
are probably slim, right because you're going against like, actual
big name comedians who have a marketing campaign, a media team.
I have me that's I'm I am the team. But
it's still cool. It's still cool, and I hate when
(02:08):
people say it's an honorous to be considered it is,
like it really is, and yeah, it's interesting. I was
talking to somebody about it. I was like, well, the
ironic thing is I think that Chewy album is a
million times better. And not that I don't love the
Intern John album. I do love it. I just feel
like the Chewy album. I just yeah, I've been doing
(02:30):
comedy for like nine years, but really maybe four when
you think about it, like like consistent time wise, like
I'll do it. Do the two more than take Off,
you know, eight months or whatever. And so I don't know. Obviously,
if a nomination comes, we're going to the Grammys. Hell yeah,
(02:50):
as much as the thought of an award show is
like a nightmare to me, if we get the Action
nomination for a Grammy, we gotta go, right, got go
politic of folks, you know, chop shop in that kind
of thing. It's a little kidrom Minnesota at the Grammy stage.
So anyway, yeah, the beauty is I mean, there's nothing
(03:11):
more we can do. It's not like a I get
votes from listeners or anything. It's like a it's in
the hands of the Grammys, I suppose so. But anyway,
this doesn't happen without you. So I think having the
album go number two last week, you know, kind of
perfect timing.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
We'll see olly you posted.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
I think nominations come out in November, so we got
some time.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Let me get to this.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Fear Friday the rules for winning at life without trying
too hard, which I think kind of seems like an oxymoron,
because do you think you have to try someone hard?
But let's get into this embracing the imperfections. They say
life isn't a perfectly polished Instagram feed, that's okay. Embracing
imperfections can actually make you happier and more satisfied. I
(03:55):
also think it's more so that you have to come
to terms that things may not go right and that's okay.
Like I was talking with hockey kids last year, because
this generation of kids has grown up with Instagram and
with the idea of like, okay, everybody's life is perfect.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
And so I do think there's a bit of.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
An epidemic with kids these days where they don't necessarily
want to try their hardest because if they fail, they
don't want to be embarrassed. And I've had to tell
my kids, like, hey, winning's cool, fellas, and it's far
better to try your best. No it didn't work out
and then move on. Then not try your best. I
(04:37):
wonder could you actually have done it. Prioritize your health,
but don't obsessed. They say, taking care of your body
is important, but it shouldn't become all all consuming a session.
Try a balance between saint healthy and joining life's little indulgences.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah, I think that's fair.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
You have to make it fun, so you know what
I mean, Like, I've gotten better at that itself myself.
Even like yesterday, while I was leaving work, I was like,
all right, well, I can go to the gym and
do leg day and I have a couple hours for
hockey starts, or just go home, take a nap and
then get my ten thousand steps in. And I did
that because it is like, I'm not training to be
(05:12):
a professional athlete. You know, I'm not letting down teammates
by not having a six pack, even though obviously do duh.
You can probably tell by listening Cherish your relationships say,
at the end of the day, people matter more than things.
Your relationships with family, friends, and partners are a foundation
of a happy life. Invest time and effort in nurturing
(05:34):
those connections. I think that's kind of a no brainer, right,
Like you need to have a core of folks around
you who can look out for you, who can be
your guidance, tell you being a dummy, all those things. Yes,
invest in experiences, not things. They say material possession that's
gonna bring temporary happiness, but experiences create lasting memories. This
(05:57):
study found that people drive more satisfaction from experiences the
material goods. I think that makes sense because the experiences
technically can last a lifetime, right, Like you get yourself
a new bile perfume. You're literally kind of watching the
money go away, but if you take that trip somewhere,
(06:19):
that will last you forever. And I have been trying
to be better at that myself by trying to focus
on like, you know, trips and getting away from a
little bit. I think that's very very important. Welcome change
as a friend. They say change is going to happen.
Embracing it can lead to more resilient and adaptable life.
This study highlights of benefits from a growth mindset. People
(06:42):
of you challenges as opportunities rather than obstacles tend to
be more successful and happy. I do think it also
helps you build confidence, do you know what I mean?
Like for me, anytime there's an obstacle, it's like, okay,
I've been in a far worse situation. You know, the
chips have been down far worse than they are now.
(07:05):
Will be okay now? I think that I go back
to hockey. You know, last year the team started one
to ten, but they can't. We lost like every game
by a goal. And I said, fellas, this is good
because the teams that are scoring goals at will. Eventually,
and probably when we get to the playoffs, they'll hit
a goal route, like the pucks won't be falling their way,
(07:27):
and they're gonna have to figure out how to dig
deep and pull one out.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
And they're not gonna be able to because you guys
have been doing it all year.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
You're used to being down, you're used to things not
going your way, and now you can fight back, whereas
they have never had that problem before. I think that's true.
It's kind of nice to lean into a little bit
to lean into, like the all right, this is gonna
be a challenge. By got this, Let's see what everbody
else can do. I give a bit of a kickoff
of that. I suppose you could say, now own your
(07:55):
story and share it. They say everyone has a unique story.
Owning yours is a powerful acts self acceptance and empowerment.
Your experiences, challenges, and triumphs shape who you are in
sharing them both liberating and inspiring. When you embrace your story,
acknowledge your journey, and celebrate your growth hundred percent, like
the reason why you're here, the what got you here?
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Also, I think be proud of your story.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
You know, I've always tried to not dwell on like
past mistakes because it does come down to what can
I even do about those mistakes?
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Anyway?
Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yeah, maybe something happened a year ago, ten years ago, whatever,
what can I do to rectify the mistake? Nothing be
better today? Like that's really it.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
But I can't.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Nothing I can do can like change what happened in
the past, So why even focus on it? Yeah, define
success on your own terms. I say success is subjective.
Define it on your own terms is key to a
fulfilling life. Decide often dictates what success would look like.
True fulfillment comes from aligning your goals with your values
and passions.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Not to make it always about me, but I try
to do that with I mean really with everything I do.
Like I think certainly the success for me with like
the dog adoption events was getting more eyes on the charity,
getting dogs in front of people with the shows to
raise awareness for Warrior Canine Connection and to raise money
for them. But it doesn't have to be a million dollars.
(09:31):
It doesn't have to be every single dog at the
shelters adopted.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Be grea.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
If it was, be great that happened. But it's okay
if it doesn't, and I think that's fine. You know,
even when I mentioned this last week, when I thought
the album was gonna bomb, I was at least able
to sit down myself and be like you wanted what
though we literally did everything we could, there was nothing
more we could done. We the best we could do.
(09:57):
Wouldn't go back and change anything. I think that is
the key its true happiness.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Friend.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
I'm losing my voice, which was great. Shows about to start.
I appreciate you listening. If you get a chance to
follow along at Internjohn Radio. See you next time.
