(00:00):
Chris Simms. This is the timeof the year where he comes out with
his QB ratings as top forty qbs, and although I hate doing list,
it always makes for a good conversation, gives us headlines because the NFL is
king or less than a hundred daysaway from the opening game, less than

(00:22):
one hundred days away from the regularseason. Already NFL is king. But
right now it's overreaction summertime. You'regoing to hear stories out there. Will
Levis looks like crap in shorts. You know what, it's practice, it's

(00:42):
OTA's it's voluntary mini camp. That'spractice. It doesn't matter what they look
like on a hot June day inshorts and the T shirt. It matters
what they look like September through February. So that you're going to see rumors

(01:07):
flying out there and stories that haveno business being out there. That just
make for great headlines. Now,one of the great headlines that I've seen,
Chris Simms, The gap between DanielJones and Jalen Hurts is in that
big. The quarterback of the Eaglesis one of the easier teams to play

(01:32):
quarterback for Right now in football, that's not disrespect to Jalen Hurts. That's
the way the team is orchestrated. That's how great they are. I was
just trying to explain that Daniel Joneshas had a support system around him the
first few years of his career, where I'd go, it's criminal. It
wasn't a bad offensive line. Itwas the worst offensive line in football,

(01:53):
and it wasn't even close for thefirst four years of his career. Asked
to choose between Daniel Jones and MVPrunner up Jalen Hurts, Gosh, I
think it's really close. I don'tthink the gap is as big as you
think. What do you think JalenHurts does that Daniel Jones couldn't do in
the Eagles offense. Here's what I'mgonna say about that. This is not

(02:20):
a knock on Daniel Jones. Ithink a big reason why the Giants were
able to push into the postseason lastyear was because not only of Daniel jones
traits as a quarterback, but BrianDabel's stability to that coaching staff in that

(02:43):
team to use and utilize an offensethat's predicated on Daniel Jones traits. And
I know what you're thinking, anygreat head coach should be doing that and
right you are, right, youare. Any head coach that wants to
be successful in this league should moldtheir team around what the players do best.

(03:10):
And that's why Bill Belichick has beenone of the greatest head coaches in
NFL history. That's why Andy Reidis one of the greatest coaches in NFL
history. Because they take what theirplayers do best and they use them to

(03:30):
their advantage. That's why Kyle Shanahanon the offensive side of the ball makes
these guys look so great. Andit's not because they're not talented that they
don't look great. It's because theyare talented in certain ways that is being
used and utilized in an offense createdby Kyle Shanahan to get these guys in

(03:53):
the ball in the open. Thepoint for me saying this is that,
oh though Jones played a big partin making this Giants seem get in the
postseason, a lot of that fallson a square shoulders of Brian Dabele and
creating an offense around Daniel Jones traitsand having a healthier sequon Barkley to his

(04:17):
advantage. Now we can all talkabout the offensive line and I don't think
it was the worst in football.I think a lot of people were forgetting
how bad that Miami Dolphins offensive linewas a couple of years ago. The

(04:38):
Giants continued to add and add andadd to that offensive line, and it
still continues to be mediocre at best. Now they do have two bookend tackles
for the foreseeable future with Andrew Thomasand Evan Neil. I know Evan Neil
had an up and down rookie year, but it's a rookie year. Look
how long it took Andrew Thomas toelevate himself into one of the best left

(05:02):
tackles, one of the best youngleft tackles in the league. My problem
with this statement is that it wasn'tjust Jalen Hurts having that team around him.
It was Jalen hurts leadership, hisability to connect with these guys on

(05:26):
and off the field, his abilityto read the defense and make the right
place. Now, last year, more than ever, you saw Jalen Hurts
use his legs to his advantage, use his arm to his advantage. And
when I say use his legs toan advantage, I'm not meaning just tucking

(05:47):
the ball and running off although hedoes that well, his ability to extend
plays and find players down the fieldwas such a big part of this offense.
The explore most of plays, thebig time throws down the field to
Devanta Smith and A J. BrownAnd if you go back to that Commander's

(06:08):
game, the Eagles first loss lastyear, that big time throw to Quz
Walkins that should have ultimately helped toremain the Eagles undefeated until Quez Walkins fumbled
it. But that's a story fora different day. I think what Chris
Simms is missing on this is thatJalen Hurts can have elevate the talent around

(06:32):
him, and that's a very talentedEagles squad. Don't get me wrong,
don't mix up my words. TheEagles are a very talented squad. But
just because you have a dream teamdoesn't mean you're gonna be the dream Daniel
Jones inability to elevate those around him, make the same mistakes over and over

(06:57):
again. I think you can winwith Daniel Jones, as you saw last
year. You go back on mypodcast, you search Zach Harris Sports on
the iHeartRadio app. You can goback to any of my podcasts where I've
talked about Daniel Jones in the pastfour years, and it was never an
issue with him not being able towin. It's that the situation had to

(07:21):
be right around him. So thefact that you want to put Daniel Jones
up there with Jalen Hurts I havean issue with because he needs a great
offensive line, he needs wide receivers, he needs a pass catching tight end,

(07:42):
he needs all these things to helpelevate him so he can elevate the
team. I likened him to AlexSmith, a guy that's mobile when needs
to be, can make the rightthrows when need to be. You're gonna
want to manage the game with DanielJones. You're gonna want to get him

(08:05):
in that twenty five to seventy fiveyards rushing, one hundred to one hundred
and seventy five yards passing and keepit a low scoring game. And that's
how you're gonna win games with DanielJones. Again, this isn't a knock
on Daniel Jones, because I thinkyou can win. You just can't win

(08:26):
big with Daniel Jones. That's whyI had such an issue with him making
as much money as he is,and it's not my money. I'm not
counting another man's money, but whatI'm counting on is that this team needs
to add pieces. Yeah, theywere great, they won last year,
they got into playoffs, they beata team that was a sieve on the

(08:48):
defensive side of the ball. Danieljones two best games came against the Minnesota
Vikings. Against everybody else, hewasn't getting a job done. The difference
between Daniel Jones and Jalen Hurts.Daniel Jones against that Eagles team that Patrick

(09:11):
Mahomes shredded, Daniel Jones couldn't getanything done. Jalen Hurts pick a game,
pick a game, any game lastyear was able to make big time
plays in big time moments, whetherit was the game winning drive against the

(09:33):
Detroit Lions early in the year, that big time throw against the Washington Commanders
that should have led to a touchdown. Jalen Hurts has been able to get
it done. Now. Chris Simmshas missed on a lot of quarterbacks in

(09:56):
his time. But when you've beendoing this job as long as we have,
you're gonna have your misses. Iapplaud Chris Simms for making headlines for
us, something for us to talkabout. I do think Daniel Jones was

(10:18):
one of the reasons that they madethe postseason last year, but he wasn't
the reason. It was Brian Dablebeing able to put a system around him
that works the best to his traits. Now you got Darren Waller in there,
Jalen Hyatt, He's got some talentat the wide receiver position. Sterling

(10:39):
Shepherd's coming back. I want tosee what this Giant's team can do when
they're down two touchdowns or three touchdowns. I know that they can run the
ball. I know Daniel Jones canrun the ball, but this is a
passing league, asked the Raven. While Lamar hasn't led him to the Super

(11:01):
Bowl yet, because they had aoffensive coordinator that believed in running the brakes
off of him. It was anice story last year, but I need
Daniel Jones to elevate his passing game. He's got talent around him now,

(11:22):
more than just sae Quon Barkley. You got two book end tackles. I
know last year was a proven dealfor himself for his contract, but now
you got the big money. Hegot the contract, but in a league
where you can go from Josh Rosento Kyler Murray in a matter of one

(11:45):
year. Just because he got thelong term deal does not mean you're the
answer. You're just the answer forthe moment. It's not what have you
done, it's what have you donelately? It was a nice story last
year see him make the playoffs. It's always better to come on air to
discuss the Giants and Jets and Billswhen they're doing well. Everybody loves that.

(12:09):
But it's not what have you done, it's what have you done for
me lately. I'm not going toelevate Daniel Jones into my top twelve quarterbacks
like Chris Simms, because he didwhat Brian Dable let him do best,
and although one last year it's notgonna win you big, I need to

(12:33):
see him elevate his game and elevatethe players around him
