Speaker 1 (00:09):
You're listening to the travel show. I'm Larry Gelwicks to
get Away Guru, joined today in studio by my Argentinian
gaucho Amigo Carlos Fina, fresh from the pompas of Guadalajara.
You said s you said s on that anyway, Carlos,
(00:31):
it's good to have you here. You know, I just
got back from Africa last night and we'll be giving
a report on that. We've got an exciting show today, Carlos.
We'll be talking about questions to ask before you go
to Africa, and you know people are really looking for
unique and exciting experiences. Will be headed to Japan. Carlos
(00:52):
is going to be talking about family and individual travel
to Latin America and what major airline is and I'm
talking about the Big three Delta, American United. What airline
of these three is poised for a strike which is
going to disrupt all your plans. Did you know that
(01:12):
Hawaii may be getting inter island ferry service, Now that's
not the tooth ferry, that is, you know, a ferry
boat between some of the islands. And how about a
night with the symphony at a Bravno hall and Viking
cruises all that and more on today's Travel Show. No.
(01:32):
As I said, Carlos, I just got back yesterday with
an absolutely incredible group of Travel Show listeners from the
Great Migration in Africa. Now it only happens in Kenya
and Tanzania, and we cross both borders very briefly kind
of into Tanzania, so we can check the box. But
(01:56):
the Great Migration is the ultimate national geographic experience. There's
nothing like it in the world, nothing even close. With
one and a half to two million wildebeests on the move,
and I know why God created the wilderbeest. It was
to feed the predators. These animals are dumb. They make
a car bumper look smart. Half a million zebras, and
(02:18):
you know, sometimes the exciting part of the lions and
the leopards and all of that, but it's so much more.
That's just a small part of the whole experience in Africa.
And you know we're gonna be talking about that. So
it is good to be back with you, Carlos. How
did you manage without me? That's right, that's right, And
(02:44):
you had lots of tissue to wipe the tears away.
Very very good. Hey, listen, some of you were with
me in Africa and you got home yesterday also, and
I would love to have you call in and just
briefly give your reflections, your comments, your experiences, and for
(03:08):
everyone else you're welcome to call too. It's triple eight
five seven oh eight oh one oh triple eight five
seven oh eight oh one oh to be here join
me on the show. But again your questions, your experience,
your recommendations. But a special invitation to any of the
(03:30):
folks in our group that were with me in Africa
or in fact, if you've been with me to Africa
or on one of our great migrations safar As, I
would love to hear your experience also, so you know,
there's so many things that happened to us, you know,
(03:50):
it's the rawness of life. One of the things that
was most interesting, you know, and it is the circle
of life that a male lion or lion sometimes it's
two or three rarely, but sometimes even for male lions
are the king of the pride. If there's more than
one male lion, one of them and they're usually brothers
(04:14):
or raised in the same pride if they're but there's
always an alpha male. If there's more than one, and
his job is to eat first, kind of like you
and Karen Carlos.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
I think it is more like you, Larry, thank.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
You very much, but it's it will always eat first,
take the choicest cuts of the of dinner, the leftover.
It's to protect the pride. And you know, as these
males as they grow up, they when they get to
a certain maturity, they are run out of the pride
(04:55):
because the alpha sees even his own boys as potential
rivals of mating with females. And so they're run out
of the pride. They'll go out on their owner. Maybe
two brothers will leave or three brothers will leave, and
they will find a pride to take over. And you know,
(05:17):
if the females will not engage in defending their alpha
male because they want to mate, they want to be
protected by the strongest male lion out there, be it one, two,
or three, and if it's more than one, it's pretty
much game over. And so we saw we saw there
on the Serengeti. We saw this. There were three brothers
(05:43):
and they had come into a pride and they were
looking first to drive out or kill the alpha male,
and then what they would do is kill all the cubs,
kill all the cubs that were there, because that would
put the female into heat and they want only their
own coming in. So this is what happened, is the
(06:09):
male lion is not going to take on three. That
is absolutely he's dead. So he went one direction and
these three are stalking him. There was a little bit
of conflict physical between them, but he got out of
there pretty quick and he drew the three away while
the females there was three lionesses or female lions and
(06:35):
five cubs. They went the opposite direction, and that was
very intentional. The alpha male was drawing the challengers away
from his family, is what he was doing. They took
off and we saw them quite a distance away, and
the male was still leading these three on a wild
(06:57):
goose chase. He will lose them and inctively he will
go back and find his family. The three females. He
was a polygamist. Well, I must have been from Utah,
Utah anyway. I mean, you see this sort of stuff.
We saw an elephant heard and the baby elephant was
(07:21):
about a week old, week to ten days old, had
trouble keeping up. And it's a matriarchal society. They kill them.
They kick the ball out. You know, he come in,
does his duty and then out you go. And they
all take care of the newborn and protect it. And
(07:43):
you know, if they sense danger, these these adult elephants
will circle the baby. And nobody is going to take
on an adult elephant, you.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Know, Larry, this is very interesting. In Paragonia, there is
these cameilids in you know.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
I think you of course is Argentinas.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Argentine and Chili. Also of course these animals. You know,
the male always is on a mound or on a
little hill overlooking the many females with the little ones.
Nobody can get after them because he is always on
watch and runs away with everybody with all his wives.
(08:23):
I think they are also polygamis there too.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
Well. Listen, if you're looking at a African safari, there
are great safaris all over. You want to see the primates,
the silver backs, You're gonna be in Uganda, Rwanda if
you want to see you know, the typical you know,
the hogel zoo animals, the lions and giraffes, the cap buffalo,
and do not mistake a kate buffalo for a water buffalo,
(08:50):
very very different. The single most dangerous animal to humans
in Africa is the hippopotamus? Really, second is the cape buffalo.
The third are the lions and predators. But oh the hippos.
They are honry and nasty. They're herbivores, but they have
(09:11):
these giant teeth that they will go after people. They're
just cantankerous soul. So when you're planning an African safari,
here's some questions to ask before you book, before you
make any deposit. First of all, when are you going?
There's something special about every season of the year. But
(09:35):
if you want the ultimate in game viewing, nothing like
it in the world, Nothing comes even close. It's the
Great Migration, only in Kenya and Tanzania. For a whole
list of reasons, Kenya is the better choice only in
the months of July, August and September.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Why why are those mines because.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
That's when the animals migrate, That's when they're going, and
so you're seeing this literal migration. And so when are
you going to go? Where are you're going to go?
And then take a look at the lodges, get the
names of them, do some homework on it, and then
say what is the distance from the lodge to the
(10:18):
game viewing park and areas. I'll give you some examples
later in the show. We're up on the Mara and
the Serengeti and we were right in the middle of everything,
and there are other wonderful lodges that drive two hours
three hours. Know the history of the company and how
many people are parting the vehicle. We'll talk more about
(10:39):
Africa when we come back. And coming up next is
Joseph Barney with the Explorer Journeys right here on the
Travel Show.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
You're listening to the Travel Show on Talk radio one
oh five nine knrs.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Just listen and you'll know you're listening to the Travel
Show and I'm Larry Gelwicks. Then get away, Guru. We
want to thank you for joining us every weekend here
on the Travel Show where we eat, drink, sleep and
breathe travel. You know, we're syndicated now on nineteen stations,
(11:21):
most of them in the Inner Mountain West, but we
also covered Texas and Florida. We welcome all of you.
Carlos Miamigo, the director of Latin American sales for Morris
Columbus Travel. Carlos, we have a very special guest we'd
like to welcome to the show our friend Joseph Barney,
business Relationship lead USA West for Explora Journeys. Joseph, Welcome
(11:45):
to the Travel Show.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Thank you so much, Hilariy, I'm really happy to be here.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Well, you know, it is a thrill to have you here.
I've been looking at your website and what I'd like
to do first is have you intant dos who and
what Explorer Journeys in. It's an incredible company, but perhaps
doesn't have you know, the immediate name recognition that say,
(12:11):
Princess Cruses has or something. You know, So, who is
Explorer Journeys and what is it? Because you advertise unique
experiences right on your website in ass to who you are.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Yeah, well, we the reason that we're not quite a
household name just yet is because we just launched our
first ship, Explorer one, last year. She just celebrated her
one year anniversary. August of twenty twenty three was when
she had her inaugural and our second ship is coming
in just a few weeks. September sixteenth will be the
inaugural of Explorer two. So for that reason, you know,
(12:47):
we've only had our ships in the water for just
a little over a year now with our first ship,
so we're still kind of building that brand recognition. But
what we're doing is so unique and so exciting. In
our concept when we were launching as a brand and
designing these ships from scratch, was that we wanted to
bring a luxury hotel experience to the ocean and develop
(13:08):
a brand, experience and products that was going to appeal
to the people who are maybe not cruisers. You know,
there's a lot of people I have my own friends
and family and I'm sure all of you do out
there who say, you know, I'm not a cruiser. It's
not for me. They have kind of a preconceived notion
of what a cruise is, and we wanted to build
a luxury cruise experience around those people who are not
(13:28):
traditional cruisers, who like a luxury hotel or luxury resort experience.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
So it's really I've heard, I've heard you and Explorer Journeys,
and that's not for our listeners. That's not Explore Journeys,
it's Explorer ex P l o r A Journeys. You've
talked about it being kind of like a private yacht experience.
Now immediately some people are going to think private yacht, inclusive, experience,
(13:58):
sale unique. I can't have for this yet. I have
found the value that you offer is exceptional. You know,
that's really true.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
And I think a lot of times people get intimidated
by the word luxury. They think immediately that's not going
to be within my budget, not going to be in
my price range, and may not even take a look
at it because they think that's the case. Our values
are absolutely incredible, and right now, being a new brand especially,
we're focused on getting people on board because they will
(14:28):
fall in love with the experience and they'll become loyal
guests of ours year and year again. And so it's
the pricing. The value that we have at this moment
is really phenomenal. So you know, don't be intimidated by
that word luxury or inclusive because the value is phenomenal
and if you take a look, I don't think you'll
ever get more bang for your buck in what we're
(14:50):
offering at the moment. And you have to take into
consideration too that even if you're looking at some of
the other premium or luxury brands, take a look at
what's included. Because once you're on board, of course you're
not going to have a bar cab. You're not going
to have you know, additional charges for going to different
specialty restaurants. You know, gratuities are included. We have phenomenal
(15:12):
Starlink Wi Fi on board, and you can do everything
that you do at home with the Wi Fi on
the ship, and that is included. There's no premium for that.
So all those little things can really add up, and
when you look at the big picture, the value is
incredible and you're getting the service, this incredible ship, the
phenomenal culinary experience that I think are really unmatched and
(15:34):
that you won't find anywhere else on the sea.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
We're speaking with Joseph Barney, business relationship lead USA West
Explorer Journeys. You've got one ship out and you have
another one coming on. How many guests, if based on
double occupancy is when you're fully booked, how many guests
were we talking about? Yeah, great question.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
So you know the thing we always say, because we
think of ourselves more as a floating hotel, we say
we have four hundred and sixty one suitet. So if
you're doing the math on that, when you're looking at
a journey, that's pretty close to you know, we actually
never intend to be at one hundred percent. We'll usually
sell the ship to a maximum ninety to ninety five
percent of its capacity because again, we want it to
(16:15):
be the correct luxury experience for everyone on board. So
you're looking at on the average journey, if we're in
that range, about eight hundred or so guests in the
eighth hud.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
That's a nice one, but we're not facing six thousand. Listen, Joseph,
we backy, we have about a minute and a half left.
Excuse me, two minutes left. I want to touch on
some things very quickly. I love Conde Noos magazine, the
Conde Noos Traveler. They have what they call a hot list,
(16:46):
and yes, my understanding, the Explorer one, the first ship
out made the Conde Noos best New Cruises in the world,
and would you comment on that and the whole choice
about space in design of the ships and the experience.
And again we have about a minute and a half left.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Yeah, so yeah, we were so honored. In twenty twenty
four we were on the condiof hot list for the
best new cruises in the world. We also were awarded
best new ship launched in twenty three by Travel Leisure magazine.
So really excited. You know, both huge industry leading publications
and incredible honors for us, especially being a brand new
(17:26):
brand right out of the gate, you know, going you
mentioned Space just a moment ago. One of the things
I always like to tell people when I'm explaining the
experience of the ship is to me explore one explorer too.
Are really kind of the best of both worlds when
it comes to ship size. You know, they're not a
very small ship, They're not a huge mega shipt. They're
(17:47):
when I consider a medium size ship for those of
you who are ship nerd like myself, just under sixty
four thousand tons, So it's a nice medium size ship.
But when you have around eight hundred or so guests
on board max and the size of sixty four thousand tons,
that's an incredible amount of square footage per guest. So
you have six restaurants, twelve bars and lounges, four different
(18:08):
pool areas, incredible spot that's over seven thousand square feet,
So you get all of these amenities and beautiful venues
to explore and enjoy, but without all the people there.
So it's really the best of both worlds.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Thank you, Joseph Barney business relationship lead a USA West
with Explorer Journeys. You can get all the details from
your Morris Columbus Travel Advisors. Thank you, Joseph. More when
we come back.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
You're listening to the Travel Show on Talk Radio one
oh five nine knrs.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Just listen and you'll know you need us to travel.
So Yoshoy the Getaway Guru E Me and Migo Carlos Feda.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
My goodness, your value, your languages.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Thank you very Muchase catch you on he one Spanish. Hey,
thank you for joining us today on the Travel Show.
We just love having you here. I look forward to Saturdays.
I can't wait to get down to the studio.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
You know.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
We just got back Kathy and I with a wonderful
group of Travel Show listeners from the Great Migration Safari
in Kenya and we crossed over the border into Tanzania.
I'd love to have any of you call the show
if you have a question, comment your experience, your recommendation,
where would you recommend people to go. And a special
(19:43):
invite to any of our Travel Show listeners who were
with me on our recent trip to Africa or maybe
you have gone on the same Great Migration with Morris
Columbus travel on a different date triple eight five seven
oh eight oh one. Oh, that's eight eight five seventy
eighty ten. Now, Carlos, we were talking earlier in the
(20:05):
show that I get why most people, most people their
first overseas trip is Europe. It is I understand. I
think that's a good choice too. Well, that's where they
come from their heritage. Now, but I think a great
second choice is Latin America, Central America, Mexico, but particularly
(20:31):
South America. You know, why what is it about South America?
Why should we go? And then we've got a caller
on the line, a quick answer, and then we'll go
to the phones.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
I think it is because of the different things to see.
For example, where you cannot see much Upito anyone else
in the world, it is in Peru. You cannot see
Paragonia everyone else. It's in Chile and in Argentina. So
that's one of the Betty good.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
I think, the diversity, the food, the cruise. You see
things in South America that you simply cannot see anywhere else. Now,
how long does it take to plan of South America?
Speaker 2 (21:16):
That's an interesting question because I have had a couple
that call me three days before and they had already
on the go. And so yes, with the kind of
operators and the contacts that I have in South America,
everywhere in South America, I can organize in three four
days a whole tour.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Let's go to the phone lines and talk to Agbor.
I recognize that name Ogbor.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
Jumbo Jumbo, Larry Dumbo Jumbo, Hey.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Ag Bar for our listeners, Jumbo is the native greeting
in Swahili, of which Carlos of course is a tribal member.
You and your lovely wife were with us and you
just got back yesterday, also from Africa. This is unscripted.
Just how was your experience? Did it live up to
(22:12):
your expectations? What were some of the highlights on boar Okay?
Speaker 5 (22:17):
All I can say is that it far exceeded our expectations.
Going on a safari has always been at the top
of my wife's bucket list. But everything, accommodations, animals, the
whole experience was top notch and I've already started recruiting
people for next year diary. Honestly, it was that great.
(22:39):
So we absolutely loved that experience.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
What about the accommodations that Morris Columbus Travel provided.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
Okay, so my wife has never been a fan of
average accommodations. Okay, we generally stay in the upper end
kind of places. But let me just tell you how
great the accommodations were. Every room that we stayed in
we videoed because it was so nice. I mean, glamping
(23:10):
that still does not do it justice.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
It was.
Speaker 5 (23:12):
It far exceeded anything that we had thought it would be,
so it was perfect. And then the food, Wow, I
mean some of the nicest restaurant chefs just could not
compete the food. We were more than impressed.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
We're speaking with my friend Agbar who was Messissi and
his wife on our recent great migration. One final question,
very briefly, do you have an experience I don't even
say your favorite experience, but just one of the highlights.
And we have about a minute left. Tell me one
(23:48):
of the highlights for you and your wife on this experience,
besides hanging out with my wife Kathy.
Speaker 5 (23:56):
You know, first of all, Kathy is the number one
reason why we went, and because of a comment that
you'd made in the past, Whey, you'd said that of
all the different places and vacations Kathy had been on.
The Great Migration was at the top of her list,
and I knew that that would match up perfectly with
my wife. Something that I noticed about my wife with
(24:16):
this experience, and my children noticed it also. They said, Dad,
look at the pictures. We have never seen mom so happy.
So from the beginning to the end, that was the
highlight is seeing how happy my wife was. But not
only that, it made me extraordinarily happy as to be
able to see her so happy.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
A final comment, Agbar, you know I've been going to
Africa for a long time and Caffy had not gone.
I know it's probably six seven years ago, eight years
ago when she went for the first time. She was
hesitant to go. She thought it was all going to
be Chuckorama for the lions, which it's not, but she
is the biggest. She was so enthusiastic about the Great
(24:58):
Migration that I actually brought her on the radio to
talk about visiting an Africa and a Safari from a
woman's perspective, and she tells everyone, Hey, Agbar, thank you
so much for calling, and let's stay in touch. Seriously,
love to have lunch with you and your wife and
(25:20):
more here and thanks for listening to the Travel Show.
We'll go to South America when we come back with
Carlos Fina here on our number two of the Travel Show.
(25:44):
You're listening to the Travel Show and welcome to our
number two of the best two hours in radio. I'm
Larry Gelwicks. They Get Away Guru joined by Carlos Fina,
our South American gaut Show, and we're going to get
back to South America. But a couple of announcements first.
If you are planning on flying United Airlines anytime soon,
(26:05):
you may want to be aware of possible disruptions. Now,
carl if this is not because of weather or aircraft issues,
but it's because the flight attendants are threatening to walk
off the job. Union members resoundingly voted to approve a strike,
reported NBC now. Flight attendants for United Airlines voted almost
(26:28):
unanimously in favor of authorizing a strike as they hope
to put some pressure on management during contract negotiations. Now,
it's important to note that voting to authorize a strike
is not the same as going on strike, and for
(26:51):
this situation, the National Labor Relations Board can and will
order a thirty day cooling off period for more negotiations,
and so what happens is from now and say through
the month of September, You're really okay if you're flying United.
(27:13):
But I'm not saying don't fly United. I'm not saying
don't buy United. I'm saying be aware that come October
that United could be on strike and.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
I'm going to be in travel. I'm living in October.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
Well, lo hey, listen. I love Hawaii. I love everything
about Hawaii. And you know, there's some really good promotions
out there right now for Honolulu, the the Waikiki at
the Ambassador Hotel. I just picked some six day, five
(27:55):
nights air at hotel programs. I catch this at the Ambassador.
It's a four star, first class hotel in Waikiki. September
twenty six to October first were the dates that I picked.
Nine hundred and forty four dollars for round trip air,
all your air and hotel taxes, six days, five nights
(28:18):
at hotel. You can certainly add more days. The only
thing that does not include is the evil resort fees,
which have to be paid on site. Right there. Now,
keep in mind that all prices and promotions are subject
to change and availability. At the time of booking. I
remember coming out of COVID you had to be like
(28:40):
Bill Gates rich to go to Hawaii, and it's still
kind of pricey, but prices have been coming more stable.
They're coming down to reasonable. When you can go to
Hawaii for nine hundred and forty four dollars a person
based on double occupancy, that's a great deal. I still
like the Mexico all inclusives though I love it. You
(29:00):
know a harrigan. We just picked some fall dates, both
four star, first class hotels, all inclusive. That means everything
air transfers, hotel meals, drinks, tips, gratuity and activities in
a Cancun at the Catalonia Yucatan Beach all inclusive. The
(29:22):
dates that I looked at were October twenty fourth to
the twenty ninth, one thousand and thirty four per person,
and that's meals, transfers, flights, flights, airline, hotel, drinks, even
your tips and gratuities are included. Carlos, you will not
have that moment of crisis. Should I really tip him
(29:44):
a whole quarter? And then down to Pova at the
Rio Jalisco all inclusive. By the way, Rio Riu is
a great hotel chain. It is I looked at November
seventh to the twelfth, one thousand, ninety three.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
I stayed there. It's a wonderful resource. Oh you've been there, Yes,
I have.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
It is a great hotel. Now let's turn our at tension,
since we're in Mexico to further south in Latin America.
We were talking about why South America and what are
some of the experiences that one can have in South America,
understanding that every country is different. They don't even all
(30:28):
speak the same language. You have as a first language
in South America, Spanish the predominant, Portuguese and English. There
are English speaking countries in South America. So just very briefly, Carlos,
some unique experiences, particularly that would be inviting to families
(30:50):
or couples or small groups.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
I think that many people are going individually or a family.
I had on my last trip to Peru, a whole family,
seven people travel together. And some people say, well, will
it be possible for us, some of us are a
little bit older to go and climb Machu Picchu, And
I said, of course. Then I look at the least
(31:15):
and I had a ninety three year old gentlemen that
did everything that we were doing in the ruins of
Machu Picchu. So is it possible for anybody? Yes, it
is unless you have a major impairiment.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Okay, Machu Picchu is the top of everyone's list. What
are some other very unique destinations or locations or experiences,
just very briefly, Galapagos.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
I think that Galapago is in main attraction.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Now you and I have traveled to all of these places,
and Galapagoes must be a bit like the Garden of
Eden when the lamb lied with the lion, because the
animals have never learned to fear man. I'm talking about
land animals, even some of the marine and I've told
the experience when our ship. I like using a land
(32:04):
based very much. But this one we chartered a small
boat hold about eighteen people, including you and I and
I went swimming and there was a small seal or
sea lion, kind of a baby pup. Fortunately it was
away from its mother that I turned my head and
it's about two feet from my face mask just staring
(32:27):
at me. Was love at first sight. We fell in
love and started dating. Well, they followed me around. I
was glad he had teeth. I was really glad he
didn't try to nurse or anything like that. But he
followed me wherever I would go swimming. When I really
swam fast, he had trouble, of course, keeping up. Okay,
(32:49):
one more unique destination or experience in South America.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
The last time I booked, I booked these two couples
that I had to do the whole thing in in
three days practically, and we worked until eleven pm in Rio,
nine o'clock here at home to finish the itinary because
they were living the next day at nine o'clock in
the morning. So is it possible to put together and
(33:15):
experience South America the last mini years. Of course, if
you have more time, it's okay, you know, and you
don't make me work until nine oh ten pm. But yes,
it is possible to go another destination that Rio has
a major attraction.
Speaker 1 (33:29):
Now I love real.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
There is this museum. I mean, it's a huge museum
and it's called the Museum of Tomorrow. These Brazilians know
how to make things great. Or my Grande douglo.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Well, let me throw out a couple of Rio words
and in one sentence highlighted for our listeners.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
Corcovado, Corcovado and the Christ that Redeemered on top and
you take the Hunchback Mountain.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
Yeah, you take a like a funicular train up through
a rainforest jungle and it's the Christ the Redeemer statues.
By the way, there was a proposal to tear down
in my hometown, Alcatraz and put a Christ the Redeemer statue,
but the Heathens of San Francisco didn't want anything to
do with Jesus. They don't want to be redeemed. I've
(34:19):
been a saying the Lucifer. Maybe they'd gone for it
or something. Okay. Uh Ipanima and uh.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Copa Cabana, Yes, Coppa Cabana is very well known throughout
the world. And then of course Epanima because of the
girl from Ipanima, you know that was created. There is
a restaurant, it's a bar two that you can go
there and see the piano where Jovan you know that
was the the one that created this successful it's called
(34:49):
the Girlfriend.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Answer me this question because you and I have been
there so many times. When I put on my Brazilian
swimsuit and strut on copakebag, everybody runs away. I know, yes,
you know. I it was so embarrassing. I had my
Brazilian swimsuit on. I was on the beach. I fell
asleep and I was rudely awakened as green Peace workers
(35:18):
were dumping buckets of water on me, tried to push
me back into the ocean. Oh okay, here, here we go.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Shoe Haskaria, Oh yes, shoe Ascaria is kind of like
a Rdesio here in Salac City, but cannot be compared.
The food excellent, the bar with Salas and.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Second Brazilia where they're bringing the meat. They have all
the side dishes, but they bring the meats on skewers
and you know, say, by the way, our closing dinner
in Nairobi Thursday night was at the number one restaurant
in nairo We called Carnivore, and it's like Rhodesio girls
like a shoe Hascadia, but they have also exotic meats,
(36:02):
like you have beef and pork and chicken and all
of that, but you can also get ostridge and crocodile,
these fun things. One of the great experiences that I
had in Rio was finding a seafood shoe huskin with
unlimited lobster. More on that when we come back on
the Travel Show.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
You're listening to the Travel Show on Talk Radio one
oh five nine knrs.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Just listen and you'll know welcome back to the Travel Show.
That what we call bump music was actually Carlos playing
his trumpet when he was a performer at the cabaret
in Guadalajara. And maybe we can get him to bring
(36:53):
the trumpet here to the studio. And hey, listen, we
were talking about South America and I mentioned that when
you and I were down there with a tour group.
This was I don't know, twenty years ago or twenty
five years, quite some time ago, when we were both
young men.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Yeah younger.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
I'm not young men anymore. But we were staying at
the Les Meridian Hotel very close to it's just like
a block away from Copa Cabana Beach, and.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
It's a cross practically from Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
It's a street, I call it a block. It's a
street across to Copa Cabana where I strutted and we
were talking to the concierge. They're in Rio de Geneira
and we are just asking for some restaurant recommendations because
we didn't have a group meal planned that day. There's
(37:48):
so many great restaurants in Rio. We wanted to go, yes, yes, yes,
and so he recommended. He kind of talked to us
about our interests and we mentioned we enjoyed seafood, and
he says, well, they're sa seafood shoe hscaria. Again. The
shoe Huscaria is where they bring things on plates or skewers.
So we invite anyone who wants to go in our group.
(38:10):
It's just about the whole group, and we went. It
was like a block away, you know.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
You remember it was Marios. That was Marius Fish.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
And so they have a you know, a mile long bar,
I say, bar of side dishes, salad, soups, side dishes,
vegetables and things like that. And they also had some
more traditional meats like beef and chicken and pork. But
the highlight of Marios was the seafood. Now I think
(38:45):
I had They bought out a platter of sea bass. Honestly, folks,
absolute the best sea bass. I think it was cooked
in butter and lime, and you know, I just like
to drip line lime on my head because I love
lime so much. And then they brought these giant prawns
(39:05):
that were the size of a lobster tail. You had
a sizzler, okay, and then they brought the lobster tails. Yes,
and it was just they just kept coming. They just
kept coming.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (39:17):
It was kind of embarrassing when you ordered come. It's
an easiness spaniel wheelbarrow, uh, kinda kindada. They had to
bring a kind of dia to wheel me back to
the hotel. I couldn't walk.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
Where we are.
Speaker 1 (39:32):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (39:33):
One of the things that I really enjoy there. You
know that the ambiance was perfect. You know, all these
seafood things, beautiful restaurants, but then their restroom, their restaurant,
everything was everything was brass, shining brass, pictures of every
fish that you can think of. I mean, it was
just like.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
I am so glad you explained that because I was
kind of wondering, worrying why you were spending so much
time in the man.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Well, but you know that's just the artwork there. You
have just a rotten mind.
Speaker 1 (40:09):
You know, I've been told I'm a dirty old man.
I said you are, I said I'm not old. Anyway, Listen,
no discussion of South America could be complete without Iguasu falls.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
Nah, you're very right, and that's rest and that hotel,
the Belmont, that is across the street.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Yeah. Well, there are two sides that you can view
it from.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Yes, you can do it from the Argentine side, which
is my country and will always defend my country, and
then of course yes, and then the other one from
the Brazilian.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Side, which is better for viewing, not the country for viewing.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Well, I have to admit that is from the Brazilian side,
the best pork k It is across the street from
the hotel. You have a trail that goes all the
way down from the upper part of the river all
the way to the level of the river, and then
you see these magnif fvisent waterfall that is called the
(41:15):
Devil's Throat.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
And there's a walkway that you can face it. Of course,
first of all, it's two hundred and twenty five waterfalls
or part of the shoe. But there's something else I
like through the jungle and the.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Boat that's the amazing.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
You kind of like jeeps and it's really a safar.
You may get some animal viewing there, but then you
get these boats and it's kind of like made of
the mist at Niagara. You can get a little poncho
if you want, but I like to do it with
no poncho.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
There are two versions if you want the dry one
because you don't want to get wet, and there are
some people don't want to get wet and so they
miss a lot. And the other one is the wet one,
and you go as close was responsible to this huge close,
very close, because very safe. Very Oh yes it is.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
It's an amazing, absolutely incredible. Now we talked earlier about
the Galapagos and Ecuador. I love Ecuador. It is your
Kito is the absolute idyllic, iconic colonial city. Morris Columbus
Travel is offering two Galapagos trips, one of which you
(42:29):
will be the personal host and tour guide.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
Yes, I will be doing the People the tour that
departs on October twelve. And then Carol, my colleague, will
be living on October first, so we will just meet.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
But that's great, that is a great time to go.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
And then there's a difference, Larry one. Carols is navigating
from island to island. Mine is staying in different.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
Which is work perfectly. I kind of like the day
trip because anyway, I also like the boat experience. Either
one works for that. All the details at morriscolumbus dot
commorriscolumbus dot com. Give your favorite Morris Columbus travel advisor.
You probably have his or her direct line. Otherwise call
(43:18):
one eight hundred triple nine forty six forty six. One
eight hundred triple nine forty six forty six. Listen. I'd
like to invite you to join me. Every Monday on
the KUTV Channel two noon news for about fourteen fifteen years,
I do a travel update. It's travel news. I'm actually
a reporter in that sense for KUTV on travel. It's
(43:41):
generally broadcast between twelve forty and twelve fifty. It's not
a commercial, but it's a straight news report. You know,
pre pandemic, I went into the studio set on the
set with the anchors during the COVID. They said, we
want to reduce foot traffic in the studio, so video
(44:02):
it set it in after a pandemic. They said we'll
come back in the studio. I said, no, I'll send
it in and you saw last week right from Africa
more here on the Travel show. Welcome back to the
Travel show. I'm Larry Gelwicks, the Getaway Guru, joined by
(44:23):
Miamigo Carlos fieda director of Latin American sales at Morris
Columbus Travel. You know, we ended the last segment talking
about every Monday and for fourteen fifteen years I appear
on the Monday noon news. Again, it's not a commercial.
Speaker 2 (44:40):
You can see your fate. People can see your face. Finally,
that's right.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
And then they say, Larry, you have a face perfect
for radio. But when you know, when COVID was over,
the students, you know you can come back in. But
I had been filming the news report outside anywhere in
the world, and I like that much better for those
(45:04):
who watch the KUTV new News than by the way,
KUTV Channel two, which is the CBS affiliate for Utah,
parts of Idaho and the three people who live in
eastern Nevada, is the number one news station in the market.
And I will tell you know the host there, Mary
(45:25):
and Ron they are and others. They are genuine people,
absolutely genuine people. What you see on cameras, what you
see off camera. They're just the nicest people. But it
was fun, you know, when I used to go on.
I always would wear a proud, colorful Aloha shirt and
(45:48):
they're in suits and beautiful dresses. It was branding and
so I still try to wear that as often as
I can. But anyway, for those who saw the new
News last Monday, you saw that it was filmed in
Africa where I was, and there were a herd of
(46:08):
giraffes behind us. Now I keep it a safe distance,
but I really look forward to that, and it's always
it's some news report. So on Monday noon news KUTV
channel two, and they could put my segments called the
Getaway Guru anytime, but used it's between twelve forty and
(46:31):
usually right at twelve for it, it could be twelve forty
to twelve fifty. I hope that you will say hello
with when they come by. Hey, you know, I just
flew from Nairobi to Amsterdam yesterday, excuse me Thursday, and
we left Nairobi Thursday evening, arrived in Amsterdam Friday morning
(46:57):
and then flew NonStop Amsterdam to Salt Lake. You know,
it's so nice having NonStop service from Europe. I try
to avoid JFK if I can at all costs well,
staying connected when flying on long haul routes with Delta Airlines,
Carlos is about to get a lot simpler. The Atlanta
(47:19):
based airline announced recently that it is officially bringing its
free high speed Wi Fi offering to flights across the
Atlantic Now Delta they did a trial on long haul
Wi Fi last month from flights to and from France
and it seemed to have gone well. Now they're ready
(47:41):
for a big rollout. So what they're doing right now,
even as we speak, is Delta will activate free Wi
Fi on flights to the UK, Germany, Deutschland, the Netherlands.
That's where we were in Well, I'll be Amsterdam, Spain,
Espana and Italia. By the way, your family is originally
(48:05):
from Italy. Yes, yes, they yes they are. Anyway, you
know what's nice about them? Now I will tell you.
To get the free Wi Fi service domestically or on
these select international flights, you have to be a member
of the Delta sky Miles program that's their frequent flyer
and it's free to join at Delta dot com. Because
(48:27):
to get the free WiFi you have to enter your
sky Miles number. So I think that's not a not
a bad deal. We were talking in the first hour
how people are wanting unique experiences. Galapagos, Machu Picchu, Iguasiou Falls, Patagonia,
(48:48):
which is more than a jacket. Yes, I mean the
penguin rookies there in Chile, the Tierra del Fuego down
in New Shwaya, Argentina. I'll tell you one of the
great adventures of a lifetime is sailing with me. Yeah,
I know you want to throw me overboard, but listen
(49:10):
to this tournay. These are going to places that you
absolutely want and it is unique. We'll be sailing from
Iceland to England. We visit Iceland, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium
and England. It's recuvic Iceland all the way to Southampton,
(49:31):
which like an hour and fifteenth hour.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
When does the cruise starts.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
Well, the cruise dates are June twelve to twenty two.
We're sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line on the Norwegian Prima,
which is one of their new ships, and I've sailed
on the Prema. It is over the top and what's
really cool about it is they've got a new fitch
feature and a true food court right in the same
(49:59):
prox you can get pizza you can get tacos, you
can get Italian, you can get vegetarian. I mean, it
just goes on and on and on of what you
may want, the Indian food, which I love. By the way,
I'll tell you the story sometime about my great great
grandfather Samuel A. Woolley, who is a missionary in India
(50:20):
from eighteen fifty four in eighteen fifty seven and kept
a journal four hundred and twenty pages of his travels
in India. I'll tell you about that. And sailing across
the Pacific too, you know, walking to California from Utah,
leaving a wife and family, sailed to what was then
the Sandwich Islands, named by Captain Cook Cook. Yeah, Captain
(50:45):
James Cook, after his frau, was named after his friend
John Montague, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, hence the Sandwich Islands.
But anyway, back to this cruise. So we'll sail from
wreck you. We'll stop in Ulisen and Bergen, Norway. We'll
see the Norwegian Fjords, as I mentioned, onto Amsterdam to Bruges, Belgium.
(51:11):
Now Bruges rivals Prague and Paris as one of the
most beautiful cities in all of your production. Yeah, I
like Amsterdam. I was just there two days ago. No,
I was there yesterday. Can you believe that I was
in Amsterdam yesterday? Oh my gosh. Anyway, and then on
(51:31):
to England. You know, Iceland is an interesting country. Some
years ago Kathy and I were there and it was
in the month of October. These cruise dates are better
dates June twelve to twenty two. By the way, NCL
offers a free airfare option on this cruise. It's really
a buy one, get one free. Now what you have
(51:52):
to give up is you don't get to pick the airline.
They picked the Iron Line, but they're going to get
you there on a major airline. So you can't say, well,
I really want Delta, I really want United. No that
you may get Delta or United, but that you have
to understand you give up the choice of airlines. And
(52:13):
I don't recall what the airfare is on this one.
I'll have that next week for you. But when we
went two years ago, my airfare Salt Lake to London
and home from rek evict Iceland. This tour doesn't just
the reverse was sixteen hundred dollars. I priced it out
on Delta and American and United it was over twenty
(52:36):
two hundred dollars, so the sixteen hundred dollars for me
was a real deal. Kathy went zero, absolutely free, not
even taxes on it, so our effective airfare for both
of us was eight hundred dollars a person rather than
twenty two hundred plus. But again, you give up. You
(52:58):
can't request a schedule other than you'll get there on
the day that you want to get there. You can
go two up to two days early, stay up to
two days late. And on this one we'll be offering
a post cruise London option. Now the ship is, believe
it or not, is getting very full. We already have
a nice group on it. We'd love to have you
(53:18):
join us. But think about it. You're going to see Iceland, Norway, Netherlands,
Belgium and England. Now, I said, Kathy and I were
there some years. We've been there many times, but this
particular trip was in the month of October, and we
had a wonderful group doing a similar thing, and we
took an excursion out on a glacier and well, there's
(53:40):
glaciers and volcanoes all over Iceland. In fact, there are
one hundred and thirty volcanoes in Iceland, thirty of which
are active. Hawaii we think of volcanoes, don't we It
has sixteen volcanoes, three of which are active. There are
thirty active volcans, and we've actually seen some of the
(54:05):
eruption of these volcans. So Kathy and I are out
on this glacier with a guy. There's about eight of
us snowbombiles. I did learn that Kathy is a speed
demon on the absolutely terrifying.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
You're getting.
Speaker 1 (54:21):
Anyway, We're on these snowmobiles and we're He just says,
stay with me, keep on my route. You keep going.
You can find out go down a crevass or something,
but that's they keep in a very Just follow me
and you'll be safe. Then we stop and a light
snow started to fall. It got a little bit heavier.
(54:43):
We're just sitting there. I can't believe God created such
a wonderful country. Waterfalls like the Gulphus Waterfalls is is
beyond description, how beautiful. This country is a very very friendly,
friendly people. So we love Iceland and Norway and the Netherlands,
(55:08):
Bruce Belgium and then onto England. So the dates on
this one June twelve to twenty two. Remember we have
a post cruise option to London. You can get the
details at Morriscolumbus dot com Morriscolumbus dot com and then
just excuse me, scroll down to Morris Murdoch Escorted Tours
(55:33):
and you can get all the details. So what you
want to do on any of our tours, including Carlos's,
you can pick a geographic location. So for Carlos you'd
pick South America, but for mine you'd pick cruises. Even
though we're in Europe. There's a Europe button, but pick
cruises for that. You'll get the details. The other thing
(55:54):
that I have that you'll want to look at is
in July, starting on seventh, we have a British Isles
in France. Cruise will visit Scotland, Ireland, the Republic of Ireland,
England and France. That is in July. It's the British Isles.
Love to have you joined me on that one July
(56:15):
seventh to the twentieth, So just a review Iceland, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands,
England is June twelve to twenty two. I'll be your
personal host and tour guide, which may be a reason
to book a different date, and then the British Isles
in France July seventh to twenty. Now where am I
(56:38):
going on July twentieth? I am flying to Nairobigenyan. I
have a safari, great migration safari, and that will be
June twentieth to the thirty first. I've got a busy summer.
(56:58):
Hey more when we come back here on the dravel shop. Hey,
it's Glenn Beecken.
Speaker 6 (57:07):
Sometimes I kind of feel like we're in a really
bad episode of the Twilight Zone. Inflation is getting even worse.
War in Ukraine, war in Gaza, violent protests in America.
How are you supposed to feel comfortable about your retirement
at this point? Call the man whose clients have never
suffered stock market losses in over thirty years, Lyle Boss.
He's the president of Boss Financial. He'll even give you
(57:29):
a copy of his Safe Money Miracle book eight five
five three five fives Safe eighty five five three five
five seventy two thirty three.
Speaker 3 (57:36):
Cousin Chase, cousin Taylor, Yes, Olivia, why do they call
it a tennis bracelet?
Speaker 7 (57:41):
Well, Chrissievreett was wearing her favorite diamond bracelet while playing
the US Open and it flew off her wrist.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
Oh no, yeah, they actually stopped the tennis match to
find it. That's why it's called the tennis bracelet. That's right,
and everyone at Morgan Jewlish is excited. Right now.
Speaker 7 (57:56):
We're selling tennis bracelets for his little as five hundred.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Dollars or creative diamonds. We have both, of.
Speaker 3 (58:02):
Course, we do find the location near Sue at Morgan
Jewlers dot com.
Speaker 7 (58:06):

Speaker 1 (59:12):
It was around my Oh, Carlos fieda director of Latin
American sales at Morris Columbus Travel. You know we ended
the last segment talking about UH. Every Monday for fourteen

Well, the cruise dates are June twelve to twenty two.
We're sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line on the Norwegian Prima,
which is one of their new ships. And I've sailed
on the Prema. It is over the top. And what's
really cool about it is they've got a new Fitch
feature and a true food court right in the same proximity.
(01:04:49):
You can get pizza, you can get tacos, you can
get Italian, you can get vegetarian. I mean, it just
goes on and on and on of what you may want.
The Indian food, which I love. By the way, I'll
tell you the story sometime about my great great grandfather,
Samuel A. Woolley, who was a missionary in India from
(01:05:09):
eighteen fifty four in eighteen fifty seven and kept a
journal four hundred and twenty pages of his travels in India.
I'll tell you about that. And sailing across the Pacific too,
you know, walking to California from Utah, leaving a wife
and family, sailed to what was then the Sandwich Islands,
named by Captain Cook Cook. Yeah, Captain James Cook after
(01:05:35):
his fraud, was named after his friend John Montague, the
fourth Earl of Sandwich, hence the Sandwich Islands. But anyway,
back to this cruise. So we'll sail from Rekiavik to
make We'll stop in Oulisen and Bergen, Norway. We'll see
the Norwegian Fjords. As I mentioned, onto Amsterdam, to Bruges,
(01:05:59):
Belgium now rivals Prague and Paris as one of the
most beautiful cities in all of your production. Yeah, I
like Amsterdam. I was just there two days ago. No,
I was there yesterday. Can you believe that I was
in Amsterdam yesterday? Oh my gosh. Anyway, and then on
(01:06:20):
to England. You know, Iceland is an interesting country. Some
years ago Kathy and I were there and it was
in the month of October. These cruise dates are better
dates June twelve to twenty two. By the way, NCL
offers a free airfare option on this cruise. It's really
a buy one, get one free. Now what you have
(01:06:41):
to give up is you don't get to pick the airline.
They picked the Iron Line, but they're going to get
you there on a major airline. So you can't say, well,
I really want Delta, I really want United. No that
you may get Delta or United, but you have to
understand you give up the choice of airlines. And I
(01:07:02):
don't recall what the airfare is on this one. I'll
have that next week for you. But when we went
two years ago. My airfare Salt Lake to London and
home from rek evict Iceland. This tour doesn't just the
reverse was sixteen hundred dollars. I priced it out on
Delta and American and United it was over twenty two
(01:07:25):
hundred dollars, So the sixteen hundred dollars for me was
a real deal. Kathy went zero, absolutely free, not even
taxes on it. So our effective airfare for both of
us was eight hundred dollars a person rather than twenty
two hundred plus. But again, you give up. You can't
(01:07:47):
request a schedule other than you'll get there on the
day that you want to get there. You can go
two up to two days early, stay up to two
days late. And on this one we'll be offering a
post cruise London option. Now the ship is, believe it
or not, is getting very full. We already have a
nice group on it. We'd love to have you join us.
(01:08:07):
But think about it. You're going to see Iceland, Norway, Netherlands,
Belgium and England. Now, I said, Kathy and I were
there some years. We've been there many times, but this
particular trip was in the month of October and we
had a wonderful group doing a similar thing. And we
took an excursion out on a glacier. And there's glaciers
(01:08:29):
and volcanoes all over Iceland. In fact, there are one
hundred and thirty volcanoes in Iceland, thirty of which are active.
Hawaii we think of volcanoes, don't we It has sixteen volcanoes,
three of which are active. There are thirty active volcanoes,
and we've actually seen some of the eruption of these volcanos.
(01:08:55):
So Kathy and I are out on this glacier with
a guy. There's about eight of a snowbomobiles. I did
learn that Kathy is a speed demon on the absolutely terrifying.
Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
You're getting.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
Anyway, we're on these snowmobiles and where he just says,
stay with me, keep on my route. You keep going.
You can find out go down a crevas or something,
but that's they keep in a very just follow me
and you'll be safe. Then we stop and a light
snow started to fall and got a little bit heavier.
(01:09:32):
We're just sitting there. I can't believe God created such
a wonderful country. Waterfalls like the Gulphus Waterfalls is is
beyond description. How beautiful. This country is a very very
friendly friendly people. Uh So we love Iceland and uh
(01:09:52):
Norway and the Netherlands, Bruce, Belgium and then onto England.
So the dates on this one June twelve to twenty two.
Remember we have a post cruise option to London. You
can get the details at Morriscolumbus dot com Morriscolumbus dot
com and then just excuse me, scroll down to Morris
(01:10:17):
Murdoch Escorted Tours and you can get all the details.
So what you want to do on any of our tours,
including Carlos's, you can pick a geographic location. So for
Carlos you'd pick South America, but for mine you'd pick cruises.
Even though we're in Europe. There's a Europe button, but
(01:10:39):
pick cruises for that you'll get the details. The other
thing that I have that you'll want to look at
is in July, starting on the seventh, we have a
British Isles and France cruise. We'll visit Scotland, Ireland, the
Republic of Ireland, England and France. That is in July.
It's the Britain. Love to have you joined me on
(01:11:02):
that one July seventh to the twentieth, So just a review. Iceland, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands,
England is June twelve to twenty two. I'll be your
personal host and tour guide, which may be a reason
to book a different date. And then the British Isles
in France July seven to twenty. Now where am I
(01:11:27):
going on July twentieth, I am flying to Nairobi, Kenyon.
I have a safari, great migration safari, and that will
be June twentieth to the thirty first. I've got a
busy summer. Hey more, when we come back here on
(01:11:49):
the Travel Shop. You're listening to the Travel Show on
talk radio one oh five nine knrs. Just listen and
you'll know Welcome back to the Travel Show. I'm Larry Gollwicks,
(01:12:11):
the get away Guru, your humble host. Humility of course
at character trait. Carlos has never accused me of it.
Oh yeah, hey listen there. You know Viking Cruises, which
does both river cruises and ocean cruises. They do it
very well. It's been voted one of the top cruise
(01:12:32):
lines on the river and on the ocean by Condetos
magazine and others. We've got two events coming up with
Viking i'd like to introduce you to, and both of
them require an advance ticket. The first will be September nineteenth.
It's a cruise night dinner with Viking starting at six
(01:12:55):
point thirty at the Union Grill. So it's dinner and
a presentation at the Union Grill in Ogden. Now. The
ticket is eight bucks eight bucks a person. You have
a wonderful dinner and a Viking cruise presentation. It's not
gonna be all night either, you know, they keep it
reasonable with that. On October I should go in. Excuse me,
(01:13:18):
that was September nineteenth. Pardon me. That is in Ogden,
starting at six thirty Union Grill. You do have to
get tickets now. Contact your favorite Morris Columbus travel advisor
and he or she can help you with tickets. Or
go to our website Morriscolumbus dot com. That's Morriscolumbus dot
(01:13:42):
com and you will find right on the homepage the
first story. It says, witness the Utah Symphony. That gets
to the next one. Now in Ogden, it's September nineteenth.
On September twentieth, it's a night with the City Infany
and Viking Cruises. It'll be the Utah Symphony down at
(01:14:06):
Abravno Hall. That cost is just ten bucks ahead and
you'll have a brief Viking presentation, will be light refreshment, sir.
But you have the Utah Symphony. And what's really interesting
about that is there'll be almost a certainy solet like
performance in conjunction with the symphony. I don't have the
(01:14:30):
whole program of music. I think we'll find out and
maybe report it next week. That is September twentieth. Again,
tickets and tickets are limited, both for the dinner in
Ogden and the symphony. I don't even know what symphony
tickets cost, but they cost a heck of a lot
more a lot of money than ten bucks. So those
(01:14:50):
are in September. October seventeenth, it's a cruise night with
Viking Cruises at the Morris Columbus Salt Lake Headquarters, which
is on first South and second East. That admission is free. No,
we'll not be serving dinner, but the admission is free.
Love to have you join us again. All the details
(01:15:11):
at Morriscolumbus dot com. You know, one of the benefits
it's called the golden handcuffs. If you work for an airline,
a major airline, you have free travel not only on
your airline but just about any airline in the world.
But it's space available. In other words, if there's an
(01:15:34):
empty seat, you have to go, and they will. They
will put you right up front in first class if
there's an empty seat, which is not about and if
you travel internationally, you just pay the taxes. Well, my
son years ago worked for Delta Airlines as a revenue
analyst in Atlanta. So what the employees of one of
(01:15:59):
the benefits that every airline has, or almost every airline,
a Delta certainly has it. It's called a parent's pass,
and the parents of the employee, not the in laws,
the parents of the employee get It's like a credit
card and now it's all done, you know, online, but
you go space available, you're kind of down in the
(01:16:21):
priority list. But we we never had problems because we'd
call my son says, how does this flight look? You
use You can't use it for business travel because you
don't know if you're going to go, but just for
leisure travel, if you have discretionary time that you get
to go and so he'd say, no, don't take the
(01:16:42):
one o'clock flight. Bet Dad better wait till the four
o'clock flight, and it's wide open. So we'd go. And
the hardest thing I had to do is give that
pass back to him when he decided to go to
the University of Chicago to get his MBA. Like, son,
do you know what you're knowing to me? But unless
you understand or live the life of space available travel
(01:17:07):
called space a space available, you don't understand like Kathy
and I would fly down to San Francisco in the morning,
have lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, enjoy the
afternoon the city, fly home that night. That's what you know.
Frontier Airlines has a pass that you can buy unlimited
travel called the Go Wild and the pass is available now.
(01:17:31):
They do cap how many passes they sell for unlimited
fall and winter travel for two hundred and ninety nine
dollars from September one, which is tomorrow till February twenty eighth. Now,
I will tell you a lot of restriction. You get
a confirmed seat, it's not space available, but for domestic
(01:17:51):
you can only get that confirmation one day in advance.
You get I think a week to ten days for international,
but then the same thing coming back. And now once
you have to pay are the taxes. So you pay
a fee of two ninety nine and then I'm flying
to Chicago to see my son who lives there. Say
(01:18:12):
on Frontier whatever the taxes would be on a taxes
and fees on a regular ticket, then I have to pay.
If you want some details on that, you can't buy
this from a travel agent. Don't call us or anybody else.
Go to flyfrontier dot com. Flyfrontier dot com for all
the good Rats up another award winning show. Thank you
(01:18:36):
Carlos Gracias, and we'll see you next week right here
on the Travel Show. Have a good week.
