Speaker 2 (01:26):
Donnie Baseball. Oh, my God. This is such a great story.
Two-year deal with the Phillies.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
I'm so happy for this dude.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Me too.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Talk about the ultimate grinder in Major League Baseball. Hired
as the bench coach, he's 65, took over for Rob Thompson.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Well-deserved.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Got the Phillies into the playoffs in the wild-card series
where they did win a game.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
They're going to be good next year.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
He went 79-55 this season. And Dave Dombrowski is, you know,
being able to back him.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
I played for Dave down with the Marlins. He's one
of the best in the business. When Alex Corr turned
him down because, listen, he loves– Cora and what he
did for him up in Boston. He went right back
to Mattingly and worked it out. Mattingly could have held
a grudge and said, you know, no way. But, man,
there's just so much talent on the Phillies. How could

(02:16):
you not want to manage that team? So, thank God.
That makes my month.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
That's awesome. You feel bad, too, because it felt like
he wasn't the first choice.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Right?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
It feels like Alex Cora. You get there and is
it going to be Alex Cora because of the past
with Dave Dombrowski? Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
I almost feel like Alex Cora walked in there and
did the classiest thing ever and said, listen, this isn't
my team. This is Mattingly's team. Let him coach it
for a few more years.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, because Cora gets it.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
And then as soon as they get rid of Boone,
he'll take the Yankees job and go screw over the
Red Sox. That would be my move if I'm Cora.
Cora's got the money. He doesn't need the money. He
can pick and choose the job. He's still being paid
by the Red Sox. See if something happens with Aaron Boone.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
I know.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
You could. And wait around.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Cora's going to strike while the iron's hot. Whenever the
Yankees or an even bigger team somehow opens up. But
Dodgers and Dave Roberts, he's going nowhere. at the end
of this, but Mattingly, again, he was the bench coach
of the blue Jays last year. He got that close
to a world series ultimate grinder as a player. I
hope he, he, you know, he's going to make the
Phillies for me more likable.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
And I, and I think here's another thing. If, and
I know Dave, he, he asked Harper and Schwarber and
real Muto and those guys, would you want Mattingly back?
And I guarantee all the veterans said yes.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Oh, I bet, too. Great news. Great news on this Wednesday.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
We're golfing tomorrow at our company outing.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
We're being forced, people, to take the day off and golf.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
We'll miss you.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
But speaking of golf, Live Golf should know its future
by the end of the month. Oh, boy.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
John Rob, though, coming back to the PGA.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yeah, it's like he knows something's up.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Get him back to the tour. He doesn't want to bankruptcy.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
He doesn't want to play in that league. Pants or
shorts tomorrow. I guess we'll see.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
No cargo shorts tomorrow, though.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
No jeans.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Oh, nice. Thanks.
