(00:00):
Like we said, we go fromone guest to another. We have Jeremy
Paigna on and now a guy whogot a little taste with the Astros last
year hoping to play a bigger rolethis year with the Houston Astro Sean Dubin
Shaw. Welcome in, man.How was how was the short offseason?
I appreciate it, man, itwas good. You know, spend some
time back in New York with thefamily. Just got back about a week

(00:20):
ago, and you know, Idid a little hunt down in South Texas,
so you know, Roger good. It's Uh, it's so cool because
right now, you know, welook around with this team we've had,
there's been a lot of free agents. You know, there are a lot
of Hector Aris and Ryan Stanek andphilm Aiton and uh, obviously the team
signs Josh Hater, but uh,there were some roles open here. We
had Dana Brown on earlier and hetalked about internal candidate it's in your name

(00:43):
as one of those names that comesup of you know, guys that we're
really gonna lean on. Uh,let's talk about mindset going into the season,
being that guy that hey, youknow, I want to be that
guy that they can really fill thatrole this year absolutely, you know,
and this offseason made some good progressso far, you know, cleaning some
things up mechanically, so you know, I'm excited just to contribute in any
way that I can, you know. So I'm excited, you know,

(01:06):
ready to get the season going. It's awesome because I remember I tweeted out
the video of the day you gotcalled up, and this video still like
a month later, was getting favoritesand retweets, and all of a sudden,
look at the accounts and it's allthese people from New York. Like
it's you have such a big followingback home. It's there's a lot of
people rooting for you. Yeah.Man, it's really cool. You know,
come from a small town in NewYork and uh, you know where

(01:29):
not a lot of prospects, letalone you know, any professional athletes come
out of. So it's it's reallycool. You know, the support that
I get from the whole community,it's incredible, and uh, you know,
it's what drives me, keeps megoing. If you touched on,
I mean, you know, youget a little free time away from the
field, you got a little huntingright there. But you know, I
hear it all the time from majorleaguers getting in good work, don't get

(01:51):
in too much work, good work. How important is kind of to to
adopt that mindset of make the mostof your opportunities, you know, getting
the workouts in and you know, trying to stay fresh for the season.
Yeah, you definitely don't want toburn yourself out too much, you know,
but I think the difference between goodwork and you know, quality work,
like as opposed to doing too much, it's it's incredibly beneficial. You

(02:14):
know, it's a long season asit is, and just knowing your body,
knowing you know when to go lightersome days if you have to.
But overall, just making sure youget that quality work and it doesn't have
to be anything crazy, but justI mean, you'll feel good about yourself
after. Comfort is a big thingin baseball as well. I mean,
you want to know that the guysthat you're going to work with every day,

(02:37):
they got your back, you gottheir back. How important was it
for you that when they made themove to go with Joe, that they
kept guys like Josh and others inthe pitching staff still there for you guys
to work with and have that familiarity. I mean, it's amazing, you
know. We a guy like me, you know, I came up with
the systems my six or seventh yearnow, and you know we've had the

(02:57):
same coaches. You know, theythey know that their pitchers, they know
what works for them, and theyjust have the ability to communicate, you
know, different ways of working ondifferent things. You know, it's a
that's the best part about the Bastro'scoaching staff is you know, the the
forefront and data analytics and they justmake your life ten times easier. So
Sean Duban with us here on newsradio seven forty k TRH, and of

(03:21):
course, as we kind of discussedopportunity for you this year, what is
that like for you in an offseason where you want to seize the moment,
but maybe you don't want to puttoo much pressure on yourself as far
as getting working and stuff like that. Yeah, it's just finding that balance,
you know. Obviously, you know, I got some high hopes for
myself, you know, some somethings that I want to accomplish this season,
but at the end of the day, you know, there's no point

(03:42):
trying to stress yourself out. Youknow, everything, everything that's meant to
be will come and you know,I'm just excited to get things going.
It's gonna be cool too, becauseyou you could be with any t I
mean, you you want to chasethe dream, you want to be at
the big league level, and let'sbe honest, a lot of times it's
with a team that's not very good. You know, you're you're just you're,
you're by your time in Okay, let me get up there. But
this is to be on a WorldSeries contender year in a year round.

(04:05):
It doesn't make it even more competitivetoo, right, because it's there's been
a logjam of a lot of talenthere, right, whether it be pitching
or position players. Absolutely, youknow, just pitching wise, I mean,
let alone all throughout the system, but pitchers especially, it's a we
got some dudes you know, fromDouble A all the way up, and
uh, you know, it's it'sa good thing. You want to play

(04:25):
for that scene that is in theplayoffs every year, going to the World
Series. You know, it's that'swhy you play in the first place,
you know. So you know,I'm just happy to be here, happy
to be a part of this organization, and you know, just try to
keep learning, then do everything Ican to bring Insideo back here. We
were talking with Matt Gage earlier andhe was talking about one of the first
SIM games he pitched here. Ithink it was bregman Altuve and I think

(04:46):
Payana, he said. He faced. So, is there kind of a
feeling when you go through those duringspring training that you're like, all right,
well, you know if I canget these guys, I can get
those guys for sure. Yeah. It's it's still early in the season,
so you know, it's still somethings going into it. But at the
end of the day, you know, it's a good competition. It gets
you in that game mentality, thatgame readiness that you need. So you

(05:09):
know, I love it. Ilove for the I live for the competition,
you know, for pictures and almostkind of like PFPS all those kind
of things. It's it's the eatingthe vegetables, if you will. But
I mean, you know, whenyou get to that part of spring training,
is it a hey, you know, we're closed, or is it
a all right, let's let's dothem. It's it's a necessary. Yeah,
it's a kind of a double edgesword, but you know it's it's

(05:30):
the best part of it, youknow, getting things ready to go again
for the season, and you know, I look forward to the pfps kind
of bring back bill and shorts dodays. So the other day I had
to run to the hardware store toget something. I was at a Lows
and I was looking around, going, who's the next Sean Dubin working here?
That at the hardware story. Istill think that's one of the coolest
stories ever. I Mean, wehear all the time of about guys who
are working a blue collar job andend up at the big leaves, big

(05:54):
leagues. But I mean, thinkingback those days, could you ever imagine
that that you would be here rightnow? No, not really, obviously,
you you hope that it comes truesomeday, but to actually be here,
it's it's incredible and uh, justa testament to you know, if
you have your mindset on something, just just follow your dreams. You know,
anything's possible. All right, that'sSean Duban here on news radio seven
