Speaker 2 (01:18):
Oh, what's the kind of past time? I have not
checked the update on Philadelphia downtown? Any Riots? Anybody climbing
poles and falling off? Did they behave themselves on broad streets?
Couches on fire? Yeah, cars being flipped over. I think

(01:39):
they greased the poles in New Orleans. I heard, Yes,
that's good. Have you ever been much of a pole climber? Now?
How much of a of a hooligan do you have
to be that your team wins a football game or baseball,
because I think they didn't originate with the Phillies winning
the d Series, Right, Your team wins a game and

(02:00):
you're like, I'm going to climb up a light pole
and endanger.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Myself and somebody did die this past year.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
They did.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
Yes, it was a young kid a temple.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
How old was he? Nineteen years old? I think. I mean,
I don't mean to make light of it, but Gon,
you just celebrate properly. No, if you climb up a
light pole and you die, that's Darwin says, hello, I'm sorry. Sorry,
your thoughts and prayers out to his family. But Chucky says, hey,
good morning to you, Chucky. Darwin says, well, what does

(02:29):
pablog Dog have to say about this? No, not a
whole lot.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
All right, little EJ here for you, Elton John, Yeah,
what are you right at?

Speaker 5 (02:40):
This?

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Among his all times? You're gonna see it a little
bit before. This is not a top ten or for me. Oh,
it is absolutely a top ten for it, I know,
And that's okay. Yeah, we all have different taste matter,
Yes we do. Is we found out yesterday during the
halftime of the Super Bowl. All right, Connor, it's a jam.

Speaker 6 (03:02):
You are.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
I don't think we've discussed. I don't think you're a
huge Elton John fan.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Correct.

Speaker 4 (03:06):
Do you even know who Elton John is?

Speaker 6 (03:07):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yes, I like a lot of songs. Okay, so he
knows a lot of ball. So do you kind of
rock to this song? Yesterday?

Speaker 7 (03:15):
I see it's before we started doing these intros. I
didn't really know it, to be honest, I didn't think
it's It's not one of his more popular songs.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Oh, it absolutely is one of his most popular songs.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
He sang this on Soul Train and everybody was dancing
to this song, laid back in the Day. Elton John
went on Rolling Stone as a top fifty Elton John song.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Oh god, you got to click through fifty pages? Oh no,
can you do it early, early fast?

Speaker 2 (03:42):
I'll the show. Hi, everybody. It's ten o eight on
Sports Talk seven and it is the Monday she won.
They have thirty one out of fifty. Now is that
now Rolling Stone? This is only Elton John. Is this
their critics review or in terms of popularity? No, it's
done by one of their interns. I say critics review
because I took there was a Facebook reel of the

(04:05):
top ten songs I want to say of the eighties
or something by Sales And I did it and they said, well,
so people I put it on Twitter and they're like, oh,
I don't trust anything rolling Stone has to say that
they have a bias toward Yeah, rolling Stone. I mean, look,
it's it's an opinion. It's one opinion, Matt.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
And to each its own zone, yeah, and their own
and your own and our own.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah. So you know, it is what it is.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
We have a lot to get to on the whole Sunday.
The Guardian has it at thirteen.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
So again it's just it's it's it's a purely subjective
conversation I happen to and I wouldn't pay it's to
my number one, but it's certainly in my top five.
Rancor dot Com has it at seventeen. Yeah, so to
each is uh, I have a new thing I'm putting
on my on my pre show tweet. It's it's We're
called a little daily quiz. Oh really, And I thought
we'd get some interaction from the audience. Where do you

(05:00):
put this, Matt at sports empt trying to build you
up than cute? Sorry, I know I've been crushed a
little bit lately. Uh So my question was today was
what did you do? And people thought it was they
were asking, people are trying to guess what I was doing.
I had to rephrase it, Oh, we don't want to
get into that. You know what I did.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
I unpacked. Oh that's good, Yeah, I unpacked.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
You were like a kid coming home from college. You
were out on the road for quite some time. Matt
Kim's like, bring me all your dirty clothes. Yeah. So,
oh I forgot my dry cleaning today. Oh I forgot
about that. It's gonna go to dry cleaning now today.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
It's okay. Oh, you and Dusty Baker both I know,
big Dust. Okay.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
So the question was what did you do once the
game became a blowout? Now it was obviously on and
all of our televisions in our house. But but I
once it, I mean, and once I got the four
touchdown lead with all the field goals there for the touchdowns,
I checked out. Hmm. So I didn't see the Xavier
war that catch down the very end and Longhorn Legends.

(06:06):
You notably mentioned that Pat Mahomes got to his over
rushing passing yards with that bottle. It's crazy if you
had the Pat mahomes under. My deepest sympathy is to you,
if you made the right call. Part of it is
you shouldn't be that kind of stuff, any of you. Yeah,
but check out DraftKings pick six.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
The crown is yours.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Well, how is the crown these days? The Crown's not
doing so hot. Yeah, my picks didn't do so great.
So what so let me ask you this, did you
I watched the whole game. You sat in your same
sposolutely did not. Okay, see I once it got to
I don't know thirty, it was all the field goals
to thirty one seven or whatever it was, or it
was a shoutout for a long period of time until
Mike Florio told us that there was gonna be a

(06:45):
shutout until uh and then he was wrong. He was wrong.
But that's a different issue again. And he deleted the tweet. Well,
it's good for has weak sauce. No, no, you should
make mistakes. I made mistakes. What did you say? He
said that the Chiefs have not been shut out since
a thirty nothing lost to the Texas in twenty fourteen.

Speaker 4 (07:01):
It was the Texans that were shut out, not the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Oh okay, okay, yeah, that's wrong. You can delete that.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Yeah, I thought you was saying he was predicting a shutout.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
No no, no, no no no no no no no.
If he gets something wrong, you can certainly get racing
for sure. It's so I, like I said, I unpacked.
I think I heated up some more food. We had
a little we had a little spread last night with
some Big City Wings. Shout out to you boys out there.
But it was just I couldn't pay attention to it.
It just, first of all, the game had it was Philadelphia.

(07:30):
I mean, the Kansas City offensive line could not keep
Pat Mahomes upright.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
No, and that was going to always be an issue.
And it was way worse than I thought anybody who
could have thought it was going to be right, it.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Was more there. I thought there was gonna be a
lot of pressure. That's why I picked the Eagles, and
I thought they were gonna win both lines of scrimmage.
But I didn't think it was gonna be this bad.
But yeah, they got destroyed. I mean, it's probably what
the worst Super Bowl we've had since Broncos Seahawks, probably
we've had. I mean, I you know, when I was
growing up. We had one dud out for the other
between Buffalo losing four straight and Washington and Denver. I

(08:06):
mean there was a there's been a bunch of I
would say for about a fifteen year stretch. I'm not
literally fifteen, but it felt like that way when I
was one of them. Was ugly because it was low
scoring on both sides. But at least it was close
with see Hawks Steelers. Wasn't it was it?

Speaker 4 (08:20):
It was all the Steelers?

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Did it not?

Speaker 2 (08:21):
I was gonna say no. Even more recently than that,
it was one of the It was either Brady and
the Eagles or Brady in the Rams or something, or
when of the Rams are there. There was like there
was an ugly game in there somewhere, and they're they're
not all classics, They're all not they're going out of
the wire. But added as it can get, this was bad.

(08:42):
I thought. I liked the national anthem. I liked God
Bless America. Jean Petite Batista. Yeah, I was good. They
got they went full New Orleans Fair, which I loved.
Which the number one thing, and we'll obviously get to
Kendrick Lamar, is that the number one sentiment I saw
besides what I thought was gonna happen. Fifty percent people
hated it, fifty percent thought it was awesome. Was say
eighty percent hated it? Probably so, but I didn't want
to be Pott Poloy's is that you could with such

(09:03):
a rich tradition of music in New Orleans, could you
have gone with a New Orleans group of artists that
would have made it a New Orleans this show. The
reality is you could have put the game in any
American city. They're not going to do it based off
what the city is in now. They may do it
for the national anthem, as they did, but they're trying
to appeal get the biggest possible star for halftime. The

(09:24):
biggest stars in the history, not the history, in the
current world of music perform at halftime of the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
So it didn't really matter where it was going to be.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
It was not They probably would have said, oh, this
New Orleans thing is nice, but we'd rather have bigger stars. Well,
there are a lot of people upset when Kendrick Lamar
was picked over. They wanted Lil Wayne to do it
because Lil Wayne is from New Orleans and has a
very wide mainstream appeal also appeals to older and younger
audiences because he's been around for a while. So there

(09:55):
were some people wanting wanting Lil Wayne to do it
because he's from Baby. Yeah, yeah, which do you see
that some of the pregame they were all leaning into
the Nola baby stuff. Everybody, everybody loved the New Orleans.
It was a cliche thing to do. Yeah, it was
a clicke thing to do by way shout out to
New Orleans. It looked like I've made a really, really
good time and the stadium looked filled. I'll tell you what.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
You know.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
The super Dome is going to be fifty years old
this year. Is it getting updated recently? Well it was
during Katrina, okay, But from what I understood, and Brian
t was there covering the game for a talk sport
and a lot of other reporters are like, this place
looks fantastic and it's a really great venue.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
I have been there, I don't know for I've only
been there for football.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
I might have gone for basketball, I don't remember, but
I've probably been to the super Dome ten times before.
I've always had a good experience. It's easy to get
two in and out. You could walk from most of
the hotels from downtown New Orleans. I'll tell you this.
My wife's and daughters saw Taylor Swift at the Superdome
as compared to what they sawt Energy, and they said
the acoustics of the super Dome was ten times It's better,

(11:00):
Oh wonderful. So you know, if you're if you're if
you're a person strays away from domes for or big
percent venues like that, then maybe I guess the super
Dome has it?

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Does it okay for you? For the audio files out there?
Correct greatest place I've ever saw a event, obviously.

Speaker 5 (11:15):
What was that?

Speaker 2 (11:15):
The sphere? Good job Sphere. I just love it. And
you're close. I'm kidding. It's it's not gonna one hundred
percent number, that's okay, all right. To the game itself,
the Kendrick Lamar to the must win the Rockets got yesterday.
You still have that cough. I've been gone like a
month from you and you still have that cough. Be

(11:36):
getting better every day. You better not get me sick.
I'll thank you.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on four
seven ninety A lot of things for me yesterday in
the Super Bowl. By the way, walk to the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. We're very happy to have you
with us. We're here every day ten o'clock until too.

(12:04):
Tell your friends, tell your enemies, tell your neighbors, tell
your pets, tell everyone. Yeah, tell anybody to do the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. All right. Seven one three two,
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero. So I'll look at the
headlines at ESPN. It says dominant Eagles defense fueled by
Chiefs three peat talk.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
Can I say, come on?

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Can I say that you're playing for a chancet of
Insulambardi Trophy, You're having an opportunity to play to be
the best team in the NFL for the twenty twenty
four season, and you're telling me you have to use
the people talking about the Chiefs three peat is a
reason to get yourself fired up. It feels like it
feels like a question asked an answer that a storyline

(12:54):
was trying to be generated just to create a headline. Right, Yes,
I don't think the Eagles are sitting there on third
down and thirteen like, we got to stop this three
peak guys, I meant to stop.

Speaker 4 (13:04):
My guess is after the game. Hey did the three
peak talk fuel you?

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Yes, it did it. Yeah, we wanted to do this.
Yeah that's what you said. Yeah, I don't think they
would let us jump. And I want to hold this
press conference here before we get going. Uh you know, like,
let me let me give an example.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Who is the kid?

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Let me give you Let's see who Josh we two
and a half sacks yesterday, right? Do you think Josh
Wet after the game said before we all asked me
any questions, I got to tell you something. When I
was thinking about this game and going to play to
win the championship, I thought of only one thing.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
We've got to stop the three peat.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
I'm glad you brought it up, Matt, because we do
have Josh Sweat quotes. We didn't change the game plan
or anything. We just rush and covered together, and whoever
made the play made it. Fangio made the calls, and
we executed. Yeah. Pretty much football. And that's especially at
the at the professional level, when you have guys who
are so motivated and mentally strong. If you need an
extra layer of motivation, at the free super Bowl. You

(14:01):
shouldn't be there in the first place, and you probably
wouldn't be.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
No.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
No, you can say, did it hurt a couple of
years ago to lose the game?

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah? Is that a motivating factor that makes plenty of
sense winning the game itself? Because you have fought, scratch
and clawed your way all the way up to the
top to get there, you need to come up short
again for a second time in three years. Would that
motivate you? Of course it would well in itself. The
motivation should be you're playing in front of hundreds and
hundreds of millions of people worldline, and you get a

(14:27):
chance to raise the trophy and win a championship for
a city. So you know to me, and I'm gonna
give you just some generic statements about the game, and
by the way, if you want to chime in about
anything about the game itself. Seven one three, two one
two five seven ninety seven to one three two one
two five to seven hoety. I don't think the Chiefs

(14:49):
walked in super confident. I think you just got their
ass kicked, and sometimes that happens in sports. I don't
think they practiced any less. I don't think that Andy
Reid didn't game playing differently. I don't think that the
Steve Spagnola, who was obviously very highly Spaganola, right is, yeah,
very highly regarded Deepen Stephen, you know, you know, he

(15:11):
wasn't working on his latest chicken palm recipe. I mean,
he was fringing out ways to stop Saquon Barklay, and
for the most part he did. He just couldn't get
Jalen Hurts under control. Jalen Hurts came up huge, he
was huge. I thought that was the first thing, was
that that was just one team simply out performing the other.
And I thought Pat Mahomes is pretty honest, and when

(15:33):
he said yesterday says, look, the wins are awesome in
the Super Bowl, the loss is hurt more because think
about it, it is it's the biggest stage and you
get super close. It's like being a runner up in
a Miss America pageant and you're beautiful. Wow, but you're
not as pretty as as a winner. Someone right next

(15:53):
to you is a little hotter.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
And he had a bad game. It was a terrible game.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
Those those pick sixes that he had, I mean he
could have had more picks as well. Cooper Gene all
over the place, and he was under pressure.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
He was under duress. A lot of it wasn't his fault,
but a lot of it was.

Speaker 7 (16:09):
He was just.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
He was pedestrian at best. Yeah, I mean the game,
the final score is not indicative of how frankly awful
the football game was. I mean, we haven't had it.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
We haven't had a dozen a long time.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
I mean, he threw a frozen rope to Xavier Worthy
at the end for a touchdown, but that was the
game was over.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
Yeah, and I was like, bleep this, I'm chucking it deep.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Deander Hopkins Yets in a Super Bowl drops that pass.
I mean early on in the contest. Now, I came
came back and helped the cause a little bit later,
but it was I was out of hand.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
It was just.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
That was just a four hour ass kicking is what
that was.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
It was a beat down from the get and Philadelphia
deserves that they were the best team on both sides
of the ball. Now, can I be honest with you,
and I don't. I don't think for our audience is
going to spark a tremendous amount of debate. I thought
it was an OPI in the first quarter. I did.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
I thought, when you go for the face mask and grab,
I thought it was he hit him on the.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Face, and and everybody, everybody jumped on. Everybody was losing
their mind, including a Pererra. It was like when I
came on there and was like, yeah, go ahead, he
was like that. I wouldn't have called that. You know,
you have to you have to allow a certain level
of physicality in that playoffs, Like physicality is one thing.

Speaker 4 (17:21):
When you grab his face mask and push him aside,
I thought it was a flag.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Yeah. If that had gone the other way, if that
had gone the Eagles way, everybody had been.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
Talking about a Yeah, that was the right call. He
slapped him in the head. Yeah, it is what it is.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
It didn't make any different than the game, but it was.
It was a terrible, unfortunate part of the early part
of the game. Was it minor contact, yes? But was
it offensive pass interference? Yes? You hit somebody in the
face mask. I don't even if you want to don't
call it OPI you want to call it hands the face.
I agree. That was issue number one early in the contest.
Issue number two, which I never thought in a million

(17:58):
years people would flip out about America hated the score bug.
It was it was done by somebody that was eleven
years old. I didn't realize score bug conversation was such
a dominant part of a television broadcast, but people were losing.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
It was very elementary. It had no bells and whistles
around it.

Speaker 2 (18:22):
You saw the score, you saw the stats flash on
the left and right of the team names, you saw
the clock, you saw the down in distance. Yeah, they
went with taking as much as little space as possible
to give you most of the screen. And that was okay.
I didn't really have any I didn't think it was like.
The graphics were not They weren't powerful, but they were

(18:42):
there for what you needed to be there for. Give
me the score, down in distance, what's the clock? What's
in the play clock? And you know, want to slot
a number about how Pat mahomes doing in this particular drive,
or how many receiving yards it's rushing yards at take
one barklay is? I mean, I was just it was
funny to me. What and I guess a singular broadcast

(19:02):
of any sort is going to have the microscope on it. Yeah,
it's the freaking Super Bowl. It's weird that they rolled
it out for this. It'd be like complaining about the
size of of band that Bruno Mars has the Grammy Wars. Well,
you know, why is there only like six p three
bass guitars behind it? You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (19:19):
It was just it was weird.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
But I think when you have something that is watched
by so much of the population that everything is going
to be discussed with a fine tooth comb. And the
score bug was as big of a thing in the
first quarter because it was different, Yeah, and simplified. And
that's how logos and everything people over the years, they've
been getting more and more simplified.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
So the reality is if you would have put a
bunch of you know, stars around it, or flu de.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Lures around it, or Lee the leave the Louver whatever
good job, Cote de Lore or whatever, Cote da wa.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Yeah, they would have been crazy about get rid of
that stuff.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Let me see the game. Yeah, it takes up very
little of the screen and overall at first I was
shocked by it or just Jarres for sure, Yeah, and
then I was like and then I think I didn't
think about it once.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
After the first quarter.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
Yeah, but it was that the the OPI and the
score bug was the dominant fifteen minutes. And by the way,
when this kansay you're going to show up? And the
answer was they didn't show up ten twenty nine on
Sports Talk at seveninety what were your observations of the game?
And a question I have on the Daily Quiz, which
will be something I'm part of my pre show tweet.
What did you do while the game was out of hand?

(20:26):
If you want to tell us, it could be cook clean,
take a shower, go to bed, change a channel, have relations,
plant flowers. It'd be kind of weird all night kind
of win. But I mean, I want to know how
did y'all kill the time? I kill time, but how
did you spend the rest of your evening? Once the

(20:47):
thing was a dud? It was pretty much adud at
halftime seven one three, two one two five seven ninety

Speaker 6 (22:02):
I mean, look at the roster, look at the talent
that we have. You want to sell out to stop
the run? Good luck. I don't think the rush defense
would be that good.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
But shout out to.

Speaker 6 (22:10):
Spags and all those guys over there. But we got
a j Brown, DeVante Smith, Dallas god It, Jalen Hurts, Shahan, Dadson.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
We got a super team and we got a job done.
Barkley was languishing with the Giants, unloved, unwanted, didn't get
the money he wanted. He said, trade me Bach and
the Eagles stupidly traded him to an individual, individual opponent.

Speaker 4 (22:38):
He won the freaking Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
What trade made would turn out worris uh, the Luka
Doncas trade from Dallas to Los Angeles, or the Saquon
Barkley move from New York letting him go man because
they wanted to pay what's his face? The quarterback Daniel Jones,
Remember we wanted him here in Houston. Joe Mixon was good,
but Saquon Barkley would have Saquon Barkley would have been prey.

(23:05):
I would say, Sequon, that's fine, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Saquon.
I can't get the arena in Las Vegas and Barkley family. Yeah,
I appreciate. I appreciate you people. Yeah, the kids were
cute on the on this on the post game set.
I watched all of that yesterday. So and the Eagles
are Super Bowl champs. How much would the Texans have
lost to the Eagles by? About forty? Well, if if

(23:28):
you are obviously watching it through the text and the
glasses you had to say are off, the Texans offensive
line would have basically gotten uh CJ murdered.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
You just got to sit there and say, you know what,
We're not in that league? How close are you?

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Do you feel?

Speaker 4 (23:43):
I tell you, and again I'm not a Texans fan.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
You are?

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Do you feel further away from the title because of
what you saw yesterday?

Speaker 7 (23:53):
Or no?

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Or no change you can be? It can be no change.
I would say a little change feels a little for
their way. They're not anywhere close at the Eagles level
and the way that Jalen Hurts played, and that was
gonna be one of their big question marks. So they're
going to load up to stop the run. Can Jalen
Hurts make enough plays to win this Super Bowl? The
answer was yes, it resounding yes. Yeah, he had protection.
He scrambled a little bit a couple of nice runs,

(24:17):
in fact, very very good. Yeah, and their offensive line
is I mean all year long. You know, we went
through the offensive line rankings PF. They had them in
Lions basically one two every week. So they were this
is one of the best offensive lines in football. No,
you get one of the best offensive lines in football,
great weapons, a good quarterback, and the greatest running back
in the league. So he's gonna go well. So the

(24:37):
reality is this, if you're building a football from team
from scratch, if you're overhauling it, you first of all,
you got to get the quarterback right, yes, which the
Texans do. The Texans have it right. The offensive line
has to be the second most important thing you attack address, yes,
and the Texans don't have that right right now. No,
they don't. So if you don't have the second most

(24:59):
important thing right, you're not as close as you think
you are. Right. The other thing is, though, that every
other and we're doing you know a show Matt in
Tampa Bay or Miami or wherever, they're all saying the
same thing. Offensive line, offensive line, offensive line, right, and
everybody knows that. But you got to go out there
and you got to get it done, and you got
to find the right pieces. You have to first fall

(25:20):
to scout it properly, to draft it. We're supposed to
be drafted, yes, and then you have to maybe once
in a while overpaid to get somebody to leave the
other team to come to your side. Yeah. But then
of course there's cap implications with all of that, and
you still need weapons and you have to build a
whole team. This is why it's hard. This is what's
hard in the NFL, though, in a hard cat league.

(25:43):
Drew Skrugg was the second round pick, because that's your
second round pick. Ken Yon Green is a first round pick. Yeah,
hadn't gotten it right yet. And none of those guys
are hits yet.

Speaker 4 (25:51):
Yeah, they could be. I think I think we figured
out his world.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
I don't know if the ship sailed, but it's import Matt.
Leave it pretty quick. Where's it going? By the way,
it's going to Buffville. I think it's headed to the
golf is the Golf of America or Golf of Mixic? Guy,
I'm kind of giving your fingers mert Rental Car assistent manager.
Those guys make decent money. Yeah, I guess man, it's

(26:18):
a busy business. Hey, you get, he.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Probably gets to take car home, don't you. You probably
get a car, don't you.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Yeah, if you work for a carminal place and you're like,
I'm not saying you're like the forty hour week shiftwork.
I'm talking about the manager. Don't you get avent you
get plenty of choice? Probably there's I mean you don't.
I don't think you literally sell every car every day,
so you could take someone there's emergency to bring it back. Yeah,
take another one, like Gary, have you ever gone to
a rental car in your entire life? And they literally

(26:44):
have like the the entire hero car. It's the pathway,
the driveway is empty, Like no, you know, no, there
have been cars and it's gone. Now that happens, I
feel like half the time, uh yeah, we have you
for a mid size, we're out of those. It's like
every time, can.

Speaker 4 (26:58):
I give you the little secret? Okay, here's what they do.

Speaker 2 (27:02):
And now I'm not a big fan of flying at
night because you get in laid and you you can
have longer lines. But the later you fly into a
city and rent a car, the better chances you're going
to get a car better than what you paid for.
So what they're gonna do is they're gonna say, okay,
because you're gonna be renting a car for you're flying
to for Aulderdale. I'll meet you there. So I'm hoping
for a delay. No, no, you get in an eight

(27:23):
o'clock at night, You're you're gonna you're in a prime spot.
You get to eight o'clock. You and I are driving
a I believe we're going to compact because we don't.
We here at iHeart don't spend significant money on travel expenses.

Speaker 4 (27:34):
We don't just two of us compacts.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
It is fine, But that's the reason why I booked
the compact is because they're going to try to upsell
you to a premium and you're going to say, let's
rehearse this. Okay, Hello, thank you, mister Villa Rod. We
appreciate you joining ust here at x y Z run
a car. I've got you in a compact here. Would
would you like to upgrade to a premium maybe a
little more space because you're a taller guy, and maybe
you've got some additional luggage. Would you like something like that?

(27:59):
That's great, how much, let's do it. It'll be an
additional nineteen ninety nine per hour. Okay, I'm not paying
for it.

Speaker 4 (28:05):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
No, you didn't do it that way. Oh, this is
not necessar exactly what I'm glad we rehearsed this. Yeah,
here's what you're saying. Say, let me give you another take.
Go ahead, try it. No, I will not do that.
I am okay with the compact car. So me being
to this grountal employee just trying to upsell you. Okay,

(28:27):
here's the suv anyway, Oh, thank you, that's the scam.
Thank you, Kenyon. Why do you do you put Kenny
is random name? Could have been it could have been anyone.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
You could say, Laramie.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
No, he's fine. You've seen that contract. He's not working.
He may own the dealerships, but he will be running
them out. Yeah. So that's that's the key. The letter
you go at night, the better shot you've got to
getting a better car than what you purchased.

Speaker 4 (28:56):
In this segment, we just broke down the super Bowl
and get you gave rental car tips.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
So they call me travel MT. It'd be this travel horte.
You forgot a word, they didn't.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
All right? Seven one three, two, one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven A
real quick I put the quiz out today when the
super Bowl became a blowout, I spent the rest of
the night, and people thought they were trying to answer
my question, like what I did the rest of the night.
And there are some rude people, one singing Elton John
songs via karaoke and the kingwood Castle. Might might have happened,

(29:27):
That could have happened. Uh Wally says, smiling, great name
for America. Uh Dre says, were reviewing Taylor's prop bets,
how'd they do well? And I think she had the
Eagles on the money line? No, she had the chiefs
of the money line? Did she? How do you know?
Because I know because some certain people always send me

(29:47):
every one of her posts.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Who that be wouldn't get no names?

Speaker 2 (29:51):
And now I'm gonna name. I'm not gonna name the nameless.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
I think I know who it is. Oh no, and
maybe I don't know who it is.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
Not me. I don't send them to you very often.
I've sent you some of her stuff. I mean, she's
was in Costa Rica this week and she looked like
she's had a good time.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
Coast Rika is lovely. But she didn't pay for that?
Probably not. She didn't go alone, did she?

Speaker 2 (30:15):
She probably got a sugar daddy. Oh, let's beat honest
for sure. Good for her. I caught myself in a
sugar daddy reel on Facebook. Oh really, this girl says
one signed up for that website. This one girl says
she makes one hundred thousand dollars a month off of
one sugar animal and she doesn't even like him.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
I'm calling bs on that whole time. I mean, that's
probably fair.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Maybe somebody's doing that, But.

Speaker 4 (30:37):
There'sn't a sugar daddy dot com?

Speaker 5 (30:39):
Is there?

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Or is there? Why are you winking at me?

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Because I'm thinking no, I'm not thinking.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Are you giving me two thumbs up and winking? Ten

Speaker 8 (31:07):
Matten Ross return return on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
We will get into a deep dive conversation of the
halftime act coming up in a little bit here on
the Matt Thomas Shold Ross it is a ten forty

This is the not like us, the final blow in

(31:32):
the Drake versus Kendrick Lamar beef.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
Now, how do you say it's final ball? Maybe they
get back after it. It's been since June and they
were coming out with songs like every week.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
So hold on him next well, and Drake has already
filed lawsuits multiple Now. My son is a huge Drake fan.
He despised the halftime yesterday. We'll stay with it. We'll
talk one about it, Jake Drake fans would yeah, all right,
So we'll get to that coming up in a little
bit here. Let's talk to some people, the great citizens
of Houston, Texas that have decided to spend all the
time with us, and for that we thank you. Seven

Speaker 4 (32:10):
Ross Grant. It's Matt and Ross. Thank you for holding him.
Good morning to you.

Speaker 9 (32:13):
Good morning. I just want to talk about the Super Bowl.
You know, that was not the best of games I've
ever seen it. That's my that's the luck.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
Yeah, a bit of a blowout grant.

Speaker 9 (32:25):
Yeah, and then especially with a sports meeting that was abysmal. Honestly,
I would you.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
Have the under so who did well yesterday when it
I mean everything all the Philadelphi right Philly and over.

Speaker 9 (32:38):
Under Herts went over yeah, shoot, and then I took
first out, first touchdown Jalen Hurts and John Dawnson stepped up,
stepped out the one yard Yeah, man.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
That was nice.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
That was an easy call.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
By the way.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
By the way, how does that side judge miss that?

Speaker 2 (32:54):
That took one small replay to notice that he was
a full half yard to a yard short of the
of the and zone.

Speaker 9 (33:02):
That's the thing of the Ins. They can't get their
replay stuff together.

Speaker 4 (33:05):
It seems like, oh they actually that the replay helped
it out. The on field guys couldn't get it right.
They also supposed to.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
Be the absolute best officials of the best officials this
year and it was well short. So what they do
is and I know this is the mechanics of it.
Here the side Judge did not raise his hands for
the very last second. He kind of waited around, looked
around and said, I why not put the hands up?

Speaker 1 (33:27):
Then it was wrong.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
Yeah, maybe he knows if he does that, it'll be
it'll be reviewed. That's exactly what he did because all
touchdowns are reviewed.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
So that meane an automatically in the sportsbook.

Speaker 9 (33:37):
The betting the points where it was like point are
you know, one and a half and then went down
too point five and a half at the kickoff and
I was like, ooh, I got Philly locked in at
plus one and a half.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
I like that.

Speaker 9 (33:47):
And then you know what, was it forty to twenty
two or forty to six on you.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Know what it was? Yeah, forty to twenty two.

Speaker 9 (33:53):
Yeah, yeah, exactly. And then it's just like we can't
ever get to get Super Bowl. It seems like it
this rate.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
We've we had some last year's. I thought I was
going to say, thank you Graham for the phone call.
I appreciate you listening. I feel like we've had more
good ones than bad ones in the last decade. Yeah,
the bucketing and then now the Chiefs have been blown
out twice. I was actually looking at pulling this up.
I wonder what the point differential. Pat Mahons probably has
like an even point differential in Super bowls now, But
last year, last year was literally overtime. And the year

(34:20):
before that the Chiefs beat the Eagles, like in the
last drive of the game. Year before that, Rams beat
the Yeah, I was close, and we had like four
close ones in a row, well, three close ones in
a row, and it's been beat down. Yeah. Uh. And
by the way, we were talking about commercials a little bit. Yeah,
we as Texans, the state up, residents of this state,

(34:44):
we have to insist on sports gambling because you couldn't
go a minute and a half into any sort of broadcast,
whether it was the Super Bowl pregame, the game itself,
the commercials, the endless hours of pregame programming on a
variety of networks without something in terms of gambling being

(35:05):
a part of the mix. It would be like saying,
everybody in America can drink beer and drink liquor and
have all sorts of good stuff, but we hear in Texas.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
You know, we know that you drink it, but we're
not gonna let you do it legally. Well, like marijuana
is like that it's but legal some places and not others. Yeah,
that's true.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
That's true. It is absolutely ridiculous that as popular sports
as as sports is, with the amount of gambling that
is now associated, and it's in such a mainstream conversation
piece that we hear in Texas cannot get it done legally.
And I'm talking about the good old fashioned, legally download

(35:50):
an app bet on the game. Now we have verious
sponsors allow us to do things on fantasyes, on prop bets.
It's not the same, but it's not the same. Strictly
betting the game itself, we cannot legally do in the state.
And it's it's a it's it's frinkling injustice because again,
if you don't like to gamble, or you have a
philosophical difference against gambling, no one's forced you to do it.

(36:14):
But how so many other states in this country allow
you to do it legally and responsibly. And again, everybody's
got addiction issues. I mean, we sell beer and wine,
we have addicts in that. Yeah, it's readily available. I
do feel like there could be there there might be
a little bit of an oversaturation with with these sports

(36:35):
books because a lot of these sports books too. If
you turn out to be a sharp player, they'll just
cut you off completely. And that means they're just looking
for gambling addicts and people to pray on, which I
don't like. I like having the option. I wispy bout.
But you just said, right there, is that the reason why?
And I know you know the answer to this. That's
not the reason why we don't have gambling in this
state is for the sharps.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
No, I'm just talking about in general terms, not in
this state. In this state, it's because of the casinos,
the casino owners that are in Louisiana and or it
will mostly go home.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
I've heard right. Oh, No, I think I think there
are some some people in elected government positions that are
still opposed to you can buy enough politicians, you can
do anything well in this country, that's the case, and
we should be buying off guys a long time ago.
This is very apparent. So, but I mean, if you
can't figure it out, then if you go to a

(37:26):
casino in Lake Charles, Shreveport, or at the Louisiana or
the Oklahoma Texas border that's not completely filled with Texans,
then you're you're just stupid. You are turning a blind
eye to something that a lot. Now I'm not saying
the majority, but a large group of people in this
state enjoy doing yes, and it's your responsibility to keep

(37:50):
it under control. No, I'm not placing the blame on
the state. I'm not placing the blame on the companies
that that that are the casinos that run these things.
Just give us the option. I don't like cigarette smoking.
I think it's dangerous for you. I've never done it myself,
but if people want to put some people want to

(38:11):
use cigarettes.

Speaker 10 (38:11):
Go for it.

Speaker 2 (38:12):
Knock it out, knock yourself out, and down a pack
of Marble reds. That's my right as an American. Yeah,
those are pall Mall's ultuly one hundreds. I don't know
if those exist anymore, and they probably aren't. I'm just
throwing that out there. I like that. All right. Let's
go to Philip in Paarland at ten fifty seven on
seven Hoy Philip, good.

Speaker 5 (38:30):
Morning, Good morning man Ross. You know, you guys have
heard about the idea that this Monday be designated a
national holiday. Don't have in you?

Speaker 2 (38:42):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (38:44):
Yeah, I mean I think that, you know, I think
that's a real that's a really good idea that, you know,
I think they might do that. As far as the
game went, I don't know. It just looked to me,
I don't know that. You know, the look of the
Chiefs was like they were really happy and laid back, like,

(39:04):
you know, like it was just going to be given
to them. I don't like right before the kickoff, but
the Eagles, man, they all looked really intense and focused,
and it was a it was an interesting game. My
problem with the halftime is I couldn't understand the lyrics.
I haven't turned on close captioning and it you know,

(39:26):
he speaks so fast.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
I never thought about it. But but Philip, but Philip,
they're not You're not the demograph, Philip. I don't mean
to ask you, but I'm going to ask.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
You, how old are you?

Speaker 5 (39:38):
Sixty seven?

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Yeah, they're not looking for sixty seven year olds indoor
the halftime, they're just not. I don't know if you
want to be offended by that, but I'm just doing
the realities.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
Well.

Speaker 5 (39:47):
I like Creed and you know, Snoop Dogg is interesting. Uh.

Speaker 4 (39:53):
Also, I do think it was poorly mixed. It was
kind of hard. People were saying there was a lot
of issues at the sound.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
I think I watched the replay on that the NFL
put up and it sounded way better. I think there
was a mixing issue. You could hear Samuel L. Jackson
just fine, that's true. Yeah, I would like to We'll
say this for the next hop right here, we'll come
back a complete deep breakdown, as Rolling Stone seven ninety

(40:19):

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Launchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
You're Super Bowl Champions? Are the Philadelphia Eagles your three
times AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs. I did see some
Texans fans ROSSI on the Twitter streets going.

Speaker 1 (42:13):
Man, Now the little teams are vulnerable.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
Now we're gonna get them. Now, We're gonna get him.
That we'll be back nuts spot next year. Take it over.

Speaker 4 (42:20):
You had your shot in. It really was clear who
the better team in that game was.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
Yeah, I don't think if traf Travis Kelsey retires all
of a sudden, the the Chefs become some of this
second rate team. Uh Xavier Worthy second half of the
season started to emerge as a number one wide receiver. Excellent. Now,
I think get their ground game going of any sort.
Mahomes needs a better off. They're gonna work on offensive line. Yes,
I mean it's a you know, when you are a

(42:46):
late first round pick, it's a good spot to go
right to go to the get that offensive linem gonna
fix things. And Andy Reesl probably one of the five
greatest offensive minds in the history of the NFL. Yeah,
he's pretty good. Steeves Fagel is one of the five
best defensive mind but he's hiring amf is perfect. The
reality is this, the Chiefs sucked for one day. This
is if they run this game next week, Chiefs could

(43:07):
won the game.

Speaker 3 (43:09):
I didn't.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
I watched that game and maybe you saw it differently.
As cred to the Eagles. They put an insane pass
rush on a very average offensive line at best. That
took an average offensive line, and that made it look
woful because I haven't seen that kind of pressure on
Mahomes to the extent where he couldn't get out of it.

(43:31):
Now he's his great escapability, but he was sacked. I
felt like every other play and sometimes two times on
a particular drive. Yeah, he was running for his life.
And actually that was the super Bowl they lost to
the Buccaneers. Was the same way. Both of their tackles
got hurt in the Championship game and that Buccaneers defense
just ran rough shots. Yeah, they had no shot. So

(43:54):
do I think that if they played ten times in
ten weeks that the Chiefs would win more than the Eagles. No,
I'll give I'll give the Eagle six, but I'll give
the Eagle six. Maybe seven could be not six.

Speaker 4 (44:05):
But Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (44:08):
Just was.

Speaker 4 (44:10):
It was better and just about every single thing, even
their kicker, Uh was it?

Speaker 2 (44:15):
Is it Elliott?

Speaker 4 (44:15):
That his name is Jake Elliott? Jake Elliott, who.

Speaker 2 (44:17):
Were like, oh, you just gotta suspect leg He was
bombing the Mad Boys yesterday. That's why you want the
Super Bowl indoors and front of the show, bradon Man
had one big punt in the game.

Speaker 4 (44:27):
He did, he wasn't too busy after that, and he
wasn't necessarily needed.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
He wasn't needed. He was a silent MVP. Do you
think he even took a shower after the game? I
would say yes. Did you see the long cooler of
beer that was sent to the clocker room after the game?

Speaker 4 (44:43):
La night, mud mite? I spend money with a so screw? No, actually,
do which matter? Schmexler was with us. They're getting right.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Oh you know what, I'm gonna do it because I
support the A team. But like ice cold and refreshing.
It's fine. It's a mid all right. So back to.

Speaker 4 (45:02):
Oh, they just played really well.

Speaker 5 (45:04):
It was a.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
Dominant performance against an excellent football team. I don't come
away going Kansas City was flucish, kidding there, I just don't.

Speaker 4 (45:13):
I think just Philadelphia played better?

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Yes, all right? Uh seven one three five seven ninety
seven one three two seven eighty. Now to the big debate, Conner,
you must jump in this as well. Uh So, let
me do some prefacing. You know, they call me preface,
they call me mister preface, they call you pre face
pre face, Thomas, as you and I have teased about

(45:36):
Kendrick Lamar many many times before he was even announced
as the as the Super Bowl act. It's not my
cup of tea, it's not my genre. I'm not as demographic.
I have no interest in learning anything about him. I
have no interest in learning the lyrics because I couldn't
figure out what the word he was saying.

Speaker 4 (45:54):
I'm not a hip hop guy.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
It's not me, but it's you. Uh yeah. It's also
millions of others of people. But there was also millions
of other people that she did it. Don't are either
Drake guys hated it or j cole fans or both.

Speaker 4 (46:16):
Or the cases of my oldest mildest boy.

Speaker 2 (46:19):
Yes, and there's also large generation and segment population that
doesn't like hip hop.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (46:28):
So the pick, jay Z heads up. The pick was
curious in the first place. I was surprised when Kendrick
Lamar was chosen. I love Kendrick Lamar as an as
an artist, but he's not the most mainstream rapper ever,
and as was evidence by the way that he went
about his show, he also doesn't care about being mainstream

(46:51):
and doing things and falling in line right. You're to
a lot of people this is like the biggest honor ever.
I gotta play all my hits. I gotta make sure
everybody likes it. And that's how usually you get selected
for this is because you can kill the widest audience possible.
Think that jay Z had such hate for Drake. They've
had beef over the years and the Young Money, so
they've had so much beef that Jason be for them. Yeah,

(47:12):
Young Money, you know, Lil Wayne Sure and the people
over there. So they're like, jay Z's doing this really
to kind of turn the screws on Drake or rather
being a really good popular pick. And then that's kind
of what happened with the show. How much, No, So,
did you watch the whole show?

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (47:29):
Okay, So to me, Kendrick Lamar is an artist, so
there was a lot of art happening. There were there
any motifs, themes, things you picked up on that he
was trying to commun in all sincerita to the audience.
I couldn't pick up on anything. Okay.

Speaker 4 (47:44):
First of all, it was impossible to understanding the lyrics.

Speaker 5 (47:46):
It was.

Speaker 2 (47:47):
I didn't understand Samuel Jackson mode to it. There was
a woman out there that eventually saying for a little
bit too, I don't know who that was. It was
a guest.

Speaker 4 (47:56):
Okay, So the Sam Jackson thing, did you hear what
he was saying?

Speaker 2 (48:00):
Not really? Okay? At the beginning, there was a loading screen,
right and it said loading it's a game. And then
at the very beginning, Sam Jackson says, are you ready
to play the American Game?

Speaker 4 (48:12):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (48:13):
And so what the game is and what Kendrick has
talked about his entire entire career is playing mainstream pop
hits and doing pop rap or staying true to yourself
in the streets and being a kid from.

Speaker 4 (48:27):
Doesn't he do his own version of a Taylor Swift
song of uh oh, He's He's on a he does
a guest verse is it bad Blood? Yes, that's exactly
right that my daughter told me that frame.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
Pop stuff, but a lot like for example, his album
that came out a couple of years called Miss Morale,
it didn't have a lot of pop hits.

Speaker 4 (48:46):
People hated it.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
Some of his early stuff as well, And that's what
Sam Jackson is talking about, playing the American game. When
he did his first couple of songs, he started Kendrick
Lamar started his Super Bowl set with a song that
has not even leaked yet doing the beginning of that.

Speaker 4 (49:01):
You just don't do that.

Speaker 2 (49:02):
It's an unreleased song. You come out there and you
play your hits, right. Kendrick said, f that, I'm not
gonna do that. I'm playing an unreleased song. And then
he followed it up with one of his recent songs.
And then and then Sam Jackson comes on and he
scolds him. He says, you're not playing the game. You
gotta play the game right. And then there also was
the dancers. They were making an American flag. They were

(49:24):
making it split. It's the split dichotomy of America having
some people like it some not liking it. So that's
what it hold what uncle said. He came out and said,
I was Uncle Sam like, America, Okay, you gotta come
out here. You gotta play the game. You gotta play
your hits. And then Kendrick lamar. He played a couple
of his hits when Sizza came out with the song
you're hearing now, Luther. And then at that point Sam
Jackson was like, all right, you're playing the game. Yeah,

(49:45):
you're doing it right. This is what we want to see.
And then then he played.

Speaker 4 (49:51):
The DISS songs, and that's when when he played one
of the dis songs, you saw where it said okay
the lights in the background.

Speaker 2 (49:56):
Did you see at the end it said game over? Yes,
okay in the middle when he played the first disc song,
it said warning wrong way, like, hey, don't play these
dis songs. Don't do this street stuff. Go out there
and play the pop hits and play to the mainstream.
And this whole set was Kendrick Malar saying I'm not
gonna do that. I'm gonna do a little bit of
it because that's what he's done throughout his career. So

(50:18):
really this is kind of a pair of This whole
set was kind of a parallel of his career. And
also if you notice, did you see the street lights
on the yes, okay, that's he's taking the streets to
the super Bowl. That's what the street lights were. In
my opinion, Now this is my interpretation. That's fine because
I didn't think of it. You obviously following him and
we're really intend to sing it. Yeah, I just and

(50:39):
this is a god Downes truth. I sat in front
of my television just say hey, can I catch something
that I thought was interesting in appealing to me, and
because I couldn't understand any of it, it it just
went over my head. But it wasn't for me, and
I understand it. I'm just saying, and why does JAYZ

(50:59):
get to run who the Super Bowl? Hicked?

Speaker 5 (51:01):
Is?

Speaker 4 (51:01):
That's the NFL give him that opportunity.

Speaker 2 (51:03):
Aren't doing it for a few years now. It just
feels like to me, that was so many hundreds of
millions of people you got y. Look, it's first of all,
it's impossible to find somebody that reaches every democrat. I mean,
I guess Titla would would reach every demographic, but even
mail hard rock people don't like to him. I mean,
there's she got Boo yesterday in the superde before the game,

(51:25):
and I love this because Eagle fans. It's just it's
just maybe too hard to find somebody that generationally everybody loves.

Speaker 3 (51:32):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (51:33):
I just thought it was a very curious pick.

Speaker 2 (51:36):
And while I appreciate your explanation, I don't need an
explanation about my halftime act. I wanted to sit back
and relax for twenty minutes. That's why it was a
square peg in a round hole. Kendrick is more an artist,
and we've talked about this, like he's more about art
and artistry and sending a message than he is necessarily

(51:57):
about going out there and dancing and waving his hand
and doing a bunch of pop hits. That's what he's
talking about his whole career, and that's what he talked
about in this set, and that was the message. That
was the whole Uncle Sam message and the whole game
thing in the background. That's okay because perfectly I thought
it was perfectly played in that way. Now, the sound mixing,
now some of the song choices that was his song tooys. Ye,

(52:18):
he did play Humble, which is one of his bigger hits. Yeah,
And the sound mixing was horrible. You could it was
hard to understand him. I don't know what they were doing.
Like I said, I went and saw the one on YouTube.
So your love of him knowing what you love one
out of ten grade to score. Gave it a score eight. Okay,
I'm going to give it in a non applicable he

(52:39):
could have gone because I there was no way I
was going to enjoy it. Let's do it another way.
If he could have gone all ten, all the way
pop fun songs he probably went to like A two.

Speaker 4 (52:48):
He did his He did this for himself. That's kind
of what he's been talking about. If you listened to
his albums in his career interviews and stuff like that,
he's like, I don't care about anybody.

Speaker 2 (52:55):
I can do whatever. He's won a Pulitzer, he's won
twenty two Grammys. He didn't have to do anything for anybody,
and he just did that at the super Bowl. It's
pretty crazy. Actually, all right, Connor, we got about thirty seconds.
What do you got? What do you think of it?

Speaker 7 (53:05):
I mean, right, yeah, Ross put it together pretty nicely.
Everything Kendrick did and and his set and his songs
was intentional. I just don't think people were looking for
more entertainment and not like an art show or Yeah.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
I mean, I don't think Rawston, you and I have
fun debates about this. I don't think you need for
a halftime show to be a message center. You are.
You are fifteen minutes to have some fun and loose.
It's a super Bowl. I don't think you necessarily need
to have a voyage that through somebody's philosophy is about
art in I mean, it would be like hell, I

(53:41):
don't know it wasn't. But that's that's the would be.
It would be like like Bruce Springsteen playing songs to
talk about his distaste for coming up and playing protest songs. Yeah,
he's kind of like that. And no, yeah he wasn't.
He wasn't supposed to be in this sphere. He's not
this type of art fear and he did. He just
said bleep it and I love that. And he also

(54:03):
I didn't know. I didn't think he was gonna play
not like Us. There was a big lawsuit from Drake.
It was basically like a cease and desist. Drake tried
to stop him from playing that song in the Super Bowl,
and he hinted at it a couple of times in
the set. They want me to play their favorite song,
but you know how they liked to sue. And he
did Euphoria, which I didn't think he was gonna do.
That's like a straight up gangster rat diss song. And

(54:25):
he did that at the freaking Super Bowl. And then
he did not Like Us with the whole stadium singing
a minor that was insane. So I really liked it, okay,
but I, like I said, I understand it ain't for
everybody that's like a I'm a huge. It's like if
you're a huge, I don't know, like we said, Bob
Dylan or whatever, and he goes out and plays the hits,
then I'm gonna love it. So I understand it wasn't

(54:47):
for everyone, but I liked it a lot. All right,
back of the phones would go Roger and Brian. Bryan
says he was at the game yesterday. Hmm, he was cool.

Speaker 4 (54:57):
He must know people. Eleven sixteen on Sports Time seven ninety,
The Man.

Speaker 1 (55:02):
Tana Show with Ross continue. So on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (55:11):
We have to tell the truth. Coming up at eleven
thirty today, it's our Monday to get together. I will
have four sports takes, boys, sports takes, not facts, but
opinions of mine.

Speaker 4 (55:22):
You have to believe, and you'll only believe one of them.
Are you okay with that?

Speaker 5 (55:25):
So?

Speaker 4 (55:25):
Ross, three of the four you believe, I do not believe.

Speaker 2 (55:29):
You do not believe. One I believe, And I'll make
sure we go over that once again with you. One
of the four I believe, the other three I do not.
That's coming up in about ten minutes from now seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety. Let's go to Brian
was supposed to be on my screen here, let's take

(55:50):
a look at try this again. They've got a great
engineering here at the company. Let's call it a Brian
who went the game. Brian, First of all, how did
you get to the game? Like literally? But how did
you get a ticket? And once you tell us how
that happened, how was a tire event for you?

Speaker 11 (56:07):
Well, to be honest, I didn't get a ticket. I
was there in a working capacity and Rashi, you know
what I do on the side, so that's why I
was there.

Speaker 2 (56:17):
But it was fun.

Speaker 4 (56:18):
It was awesome to be there, Okay.

Speaker 2 (56:20):
I had a prime location where my position was.

Speaker 11 (56:25):
I was actually at the back of the Eagles end zone,
so I can actually see everything they were getting ready
to do for the halftime show, Like the number of
pieces and people to put that together, just the stage
and the whole setup was impressive. There had to be
three hundred people that put all that together, between the
camera and the boomloafs and everybody bringing out.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
All the stuff.

Speaker 11 (56:45):
But inside the stadium it had to public be a
seventy thirty Eagles fan.

Speaker 4 (56:51):
Yeah, and it was very loud.

Speaker 2 (56:54):
I don't know, I haven't watched the.

Speaker 11 (56:55):
TV broadcast of it, but it was really loud, and
I think the was getting up early. I think they
kind of hit the Chiefs in the mouth that the
Chiefs have never really experienced from a really good team
like that most of the time that have punched him
in the mouth and just kept coming at him. And
you can just you can feel it last night in

(57:15):
the stadium that the Chiefs just had no answer.

Speaker 1 (57:18):
For what was going on.

Speaker 11 (57:20):
And hey, all kudos, but yeah, I agree, Chiefs could easily.

Speaker 2 (57:24):
Win that game on any other given day.

Speaker 11 (57:26):
This isn't all the Chiefs are over, They're done, break
up the dynasty. But they all credit to the Eagles.
They played well. Jalen Hurts so glad to see the
Houston boy doing well. But that atmosphere last night, and
there was pretty neat for having never been to a
super Bowl, that was that was really cool in that
building last night. And the Eagles fans, for all the

(57:49):
crap and that did they give, they were really humble
last night and they were really happy to win that title.
And I'm sure they tore down Bourbon Street pretty well
last night. Show guys, and I've been actually seeing the astro.

Speaker 2 (58:02):
Get wait for a Revider report this week.

Speaker 11 (58:04):
And we could actually get some baseball kicked off here
soon agreed on that.

Speaker 4 (58:09):
Thank you, Thank you Brian for the phone call.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
By the way, we will be Ross and are going
to Florida one week from tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday,
which will be the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth the Matt
Thomas Show. Ross goes to West Palm Beach for a
handful of days. Wow, unbelievable. It's not unbelievable at all.
It's already here. Oh, that's unbelievable to around the corner.

(58:32):
Yet we've gone before and Bregnant hadnt even signed yet.
We don't have an update with god feeling. Actually you
want to do a gut feeling on a Monday, we
get when we talked to to Dana Brown next week,
which I imagine we'll get him on. Will Bregman be signed? Yes?
I say yes too, but I've been saying this first.

Speaker 4 (58:50):
Were no clue. Yeah, I don't know, not Houston.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
What if you since the best offer that's out there? Wow,
there is a report. I saw it on the four
You and I should have kept it that that that
the Cubs are offering three years, three years with opt outs, right, Yeah,
that no one's giving him the seven. First of all,
the seven year bid is a done deal, and I
think maybe maybe, No, I think it's I think it's

(59:17):
definitely done deal. He's got six, he's got six from
the Astros, and he keeps starting it down. Yeah, so
he wouldn't turn down a seven. If it was out there,
he probably would have taken it. I mean it's seven
with not as much money as he wants. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (59:29):
No, the one seventy five number isn't around at this point.

Speaker 2 (59:34):
Hmmm. Scott Morris.

Speaker 5 (59:39):
Umm.

Speaker 2 (59:40):
Brian O. Limo was talking about this today on the
Shawn Salisbury Show, and you and I have debated about
this quite a bit. If you're a top seven, not
even top ten, top seven player in the sport, you
want the super long, mega deal, big of dollars, big
long contracts, you're gonna get it. You're also the top seven,

(01:00:03):
You're not getting it. Mookie bets got it. There's more
than ten seven, ten guys on big contracts. I'm talking
about for the future. I'm talking about twenty twenty five
and beyond. For the Okay, I I.

Speaker 4 (01:00:23):
Kyle Tucker ain't getting it, getting what mega deal.

Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
We got already got a bet on it. I know
he's getting a mega deal. He's twenty six or seven
or whatever.

Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
Good deal.

Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
He's twenty I'm sorry, Now he's twenty seven or twenty eight.
Maybe not that that makes it a deep but it
makes a big difference. Actually, Okay, actually he's twenty eight,
he'll be twenty nine.

Speaker 4 (01:00:45):
That actually helps me.

Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
Well, I think the I think the line we said
is good. Seven and a half is our line. Yeah,
seven is our line. That's a good line. He ain't
getting an eight year deal. What's our current bet? I
think it's fast casual lunch.

Speaker 4 (01:01:02):
We're gonna have to up that. Okay, stick dinner.

Speaker 12 (01:01:05):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
I should actually wait for him to actually play for
the Cubs before I say these things. But well, it
could happen to both of us. If he gets hurt,
I lose. If he has a great season, you lose.
It's more likely that. I mean, it's harder to have
a great season. So you want to keep it.

Speaker 4 (01:01:20):
You want to keep it at fast casual?

Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
What do you want to up it to? Sit down place?

Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
Sit down?

Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
Sit down? Lunch. We want to we'd have well, we
got to all You're gone the entire year. That's the
first time I've seen you since how do you do year?
By the way, it is the first time I see
year as well. Yes, yeah, Mookie soto Otani trap back
in the day, I listened to only miss Head this morning.

(01:01:47):
I think he's right. I think I think that the
Super Mega deals unless you are a top seven, top eight,
I mean, how far you want to go down the list?

Speaker 4 (01:01:56):
It's not there anymore. Roger with us at eleven twenty seven. Hi, Roger,
good afternoon.

Speaker 6 (01:02:02):
Matt.

Speaker 13 (01:02:02):
Hey, Uh yeah, I don't like living vicarrosely through any
team because you know, as a Houston sports fan, you
know it's you know, we have we have our issues.
But I that's pretty much of a gratifying winer as
ever saw without being my actual team beating their ass,
because uh you know, I don't think you've ever seen
another team to go through twelve one score games in

(01:02:25):
one season and win. Uh So I just thought that
they finally got exposed that they're not frogs by any means,
and we still got to get through over in the ANFC,
believe it or not, we still got to get through
the next year and beyond, but that was pretty gratifying
to see. And you know, I just hoped that the
Texans can get a kind of a blueprint from from

(01:02:46):
the Eagles as to you need some big hogs up front, man,
if you want to keep CJ. Uh you know, not
not throwing those those toe burners like you know, Uh,
it takes a little it takes a little bit of
a pressure and those three quarters and my homes is
a different quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
So you can imagine what CJ.

Speaker 13 (01:03:03):
Strownd went through, you know, with that crappy offensive line,
and to get take wins out of it was pretty
amazing in itself. But ye know, I just think that
the detentions, say, just a whole piece of that group
after the Eagles have because their defenses there, the defense
is fine.

Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
You know, I just wish they did, you know, maybe
take a little.

Speaker 13 (01:03:21):
Bit of notice and how the Eagles did it. And
you know, they get their own of course, and that's it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
Mart.

Speaker 13 (01:03:26):
So I had all I paid leaves and uh hot
poppers and uh bahata nachos for for for the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
All girls all smoke.

Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
Oh wow, that's because I can good. A little dinner
right there.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
It was the invite. I don't know, we didn't get
that invite. I wouldn't have gone, but I mean, I'm
either happiness day at home. Oh my god, I have
been traveling so much. I had a game yesterday and
Rockets game yesterday, and we couldn't even rest on Super
Bowl Sunday. At least it was a pretty and fun game,
right hey, it was a win.

Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
It was a must win.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
The ugly Okay, it was the ugliest win of the year.
Eleven thirty Let's play to tell the truth next. ROSSI
and Connor are going to figure out which of the
four takes I actually believe seven one three, two one
two five seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:04:19):
I never know.

Speaker 4 (01:04:31):
All right, eleven thirty four. I'm Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
I have four sports takes, and I have a lot
of sports takes, but not all of them are all
the best. I get it. I can't always agree with
everything I say. People get mad at me on Twitter.
I had this douche fight with me on Twitter yesterday
for absolutely no reason. I'm just telling you, you, chis,
I'm sorry.

Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
And then when I go back.

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
At you, you you go, oh, you're so soft man,
you know what your soft ass bitch is, what you
are see whatever your name is. He goes, You're gonna
block me. He said, no, I'm gonna blo, gonna block.
I'm gonna continue to make fun of you. And then
he hadn't followed me on Twitter. I'm like, I went, Biach,
suck it. Get him, Matt, seriously, Twitter beasts at sports
mt all Right, four takes, Connor, how many of these

(01:05:14):
four takes? Do I believe one?

Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
Ross?

Speaker 4 (01:05:17):
Four sports takes?

Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
How may do I believe one?

Speaker 2 (01:05:22):
Okay? Connor? We got this straight here, so he knows okay,
even if it's a wrong, bad take. Last week and
several other weeks, well, I really didn't think that the
Jimmy Butler thing was gonna happen. It was a take.
It wasn't like it was a prediction. It was just
a take, all right, number one, Ross, You are right,
Kendrick lamar was. I would say three quarters of America

(01:05:45):
didn't like it. Okay. I think Jay z or who's
in charge of it. We need a rock band that
next year's super Bowl in Santa Clara, California. Just a
good old fashioned rock band now, the band that Adam
Clinton is pushing or apparently. I think Metallica is from
the Bay Area. I don't think you should regionalize it
to where the person is from. It's a nice little anecdote.

Speaker 4 (01:06:07):
I mean, they have wide appeal. If you're in the
thrash medal.

Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
Yeah, I'm not a Metallica guy either, so I would
have the same feeling towards Metallica that I would against
Kendrick Lamar. Now what I know, some more Metallica songs, probably,
I mean compared to zero to Kendrick Lamar. Yes, sure,
so one Metallica. I respect Metallica, I jam, but I
think the NFL needs a mainstream, good old fashioned rock

(01:06:33):
and roll band for next year to kind of change
the vibe of what the hell was that yesterday? Mm hmmkay.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Number two.

Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
The Dallas Mavericks General manager Nico Harrison is going to
be and should be fired at the end of this season,
especially when now a ward coming out that Anthony Davis
has an adductor injury and it's gonna be out several weeks.
Non context, he didn't even play the full game against
the Rockets on Saturday. He was dominating before he did
that Davis story. He's really good at Jillie King was

(01:07:04):
the Anthony David story. He was great and then he
got hurt. Attendants is part of the great ROSSI okay,
I'm sorry, Nico Harrison should be or will be fired,
will be fired? Okay, I think public sentiment is going
to crush him, especially the fact of ad misses supparent sometime.

(01:07:25):
Number three, speaking of firing, Alex Bregman needs to fire
Scott Boris. Ooh, I think Scott was blowing smoke up
Alex's ass. Unfortunately, do you know that Yahoo Sports has
their fantasy baseball listings out for fantasy numbers?

Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
Now, again, this is just a bunch of jabronis that
are picking up.

Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
You know how certain players are interjections, the projections, like
everybody has got him. Yes, Alex Bregman should be the
tenth different third baseman picked up.

Speaker 4 (01:07:58):
He's tenth in terms of uh yeah, because you get
no defensive value in fantasy. No, it's all about offense.

Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Yeah. So if he's the tenth better best reality, but
you want to gold glove. But the reality is, if
you're the tenth best, you're This is not the year
to be a Ripe, free agent looking to make major money.
If you're the tenth best offensive producer Christian Walker, I
went and looked at him. Yes, seventh among American League
first base. Wow, so that should give you little pause
for a hole. It's a premium offensive position as well. Yeah. So,

(01:08:24):
Alex Bregman, you got some terrible advice to Scott Boaris
you got or points league? I don't know. I just
looked it up.

Speaker 4 (01:08:30):
The head lasting with you and number four.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Next year, the super Bowl is going to be in
Santa Clara, California. Yes, it's outside. I think the NFL
Roger Goodell should say if you want to host a
super Bowl, you must have a roof on your stadium.
I don't think you want any sort of weather elements
to play a role in the most important game of
your season. So I'm sorry, Tampa, I'm sorry, Miami. I'm sorry.

(01:08:53):
Who else would be an outdoor facility? Monks? Uh say,
Atlantis closed, Charlotte has never had one. San Francisco's gonna
have one next year, samptis gona hope you enjoy it.
You're not getting another one. All future stadium super Bowls
should be in indoor facilities. Okay, so let me give

(01:09:14):
you the four recap. You guys figure out which one
of the four I'm telling the truth. On one, we
need a rock band of a mainstream rock band at
Nature's super Bowl. Number two, Nico Harrison should be fired
as the coach of the Mavericks the general manager of
the Mavericks after making this deal. He won't last the season.
Adlex Bragman should fire at Scott Boris, and all future
super Bowls should be indoors. Which one of the four

(01:09:37):
am I telling you the truth? How are you feeling? Connor?

Speaker 6 (01:09:43):
You know what?

Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
I always make you go first? You want me to
go first?

Speaker 2 (01:09:45):
Oh, I'm talking because I don't know if he if
he believes any of these. Actually, this is one of
the better list Matts put together. I agree, normally he
butchers them. You're making fun of me.

Speaker 4 (01:09:57):
Run in front of me.

Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
It doesn't feel back the room, and then you can
do it normally and I'm complimenting you. Thank you. That's
a good list, so rare and normally they're horrible. Anyways,
I don't think he believes.

Speaker 4 (01:10:14):
The last two. To me, it's the first two.

Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
Hmm you think no? Okay, hold on now. Number one.

Speaker 4 (01:10:21):
Let me ask you to get fired.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
Uh, okay, let me ask this. I'm sorry you say
a rock band needs to be at the super Bowl.
A rock band will be at the shop, needs to
be that need to be. I think that that the
it's important negative backlash off of Kendrick Lamar yesterday, which
there was plenty. Yeah, I would say, you say seventy thirty.
I think it was more sixty forty. But again depends

(01:10:45):
on who you're watching and looking in on social media,
so whatever.

Speaker 7 (01:10:48):
I struggle with that one because Matt might actually believe
that there needs to be but whether he thinks there
actually will be a.

Speaker 4 (01:10:54):
Rock no, not it will be. It's a predicta. I'm
telling you that.

Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
If Roger Goodell called me and say, what do you
want next year? I say, Roge, like, wudn't Colin Roger
called rog we need a mainstream rock band at the
super Bowl. That's my take.

Speaker 4 (01:11:07):
If you believe I think number one it's the take.

Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Then I was gonna sit down and lean towards one.

Speaker 5 (01:11:12):
I was.

Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
Now I'm between one to four, but I'm gonna go one.
You already, yes, okay, Uh, They're playing more games in
Miami there's no roof on it. Miami. Yeah, they're gonna
they They're gonna play a lot of games in dome stadiums,
but they're not gonna require a dome stick and a
clayer should be fine too. I don't know. January early
February and San Franisco can get kind of chilly. Put

(01:11:35):
a jacket on. They're gonna play in Tampa again too. Yeah,
the one weather the Florida cities are gonna get their runs.
Jackson Wolle make if they ever get a new stadium there,
well they'll go to Super Bowl too. They get a
new stadium in London and then it'll be over. There
will be a dome feeling.

Speaker 4 (01:11:49):
Is Is there stadiums domed there?

Speaker 2 (01:11:51):
They should be. They'd have domed once. Yes, okay, But
point being is I think new Wimbley is you're gonna
You're gonna see a lot of dome stadiums coming up,
But I don't think it's a requirement.

Speaker 4 (01:11:58):
It rains all the time in London.

Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
They need don't. Number three Alex Bregman is not going
to fire Scott Boris. He had to know that he
had to take a chance on this, that Scott was
going to be a ruthless negotiator.

Speaker 4 (01:12:12):
And sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
I mean, Boris not had the last good couple of years,
but Scott Boris has a decades of track record to
getting the most money for his clients. So even though
I think that Alex perhaps overestimated his value, he's not
firing Scott. So it comes down to the final two.
I almost went with two. Nico Harrison's not going to

(01:12:38):
get fired, oh, because the owner had to sign off
on this. There's no way that the ownership of the
Dallas Mavericks would freely send their franchise player away under
any circumstance, unless without the phone call and the seal.

Speaker 4 (01:12:51):
Of approval from ownership.

Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
So Nico Harrison may eventually lose his job, but it
won't beat the end of this year, and shouldn't be
fired at the end of this year. They got to
sa how this thing plays out, We're gonna need a
mainstream rock band at the super Bowl next year to
level things out. Looking I'm not saying that hip hop
can't be a part of the super Bowl in the future. Yeah,
but I think this year, as expected, ROSSI got a
lot of negative backlash because of the unfamiliarity of who

(01:13:16):
Kendrick Lamar was, the theme to it hip hop in general.
The reality is, I think we're gonna need somebody of
and I'm not of saying metallic is it, but it's
gonna be proba and you know what, you may even
go to the medley of people, right.

Speaker 4 (01:13:30):
To go back to a bunch of people? What was
it like cold Play?

Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
And then Beyonce and Bruno Mars came out. Yeah, but
I'm I'm gonna go on and say I think it's
gonna be a real rock and roll band next year.
My thought was they need to go rocket and that's
my to tell the treats of boys. Congratulations, you both
got it right, Well, thank you, Matt good drop Connor,
Thanks Ross. Right, h The news at noon is coming
up in about fifteen minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:13:54):
It is.

Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
Can't wait. You play a bunch of rocket highlights called
to day. We haven't be talking on the rockets, yeah,
I mean the super Bowl is the big news of them.

Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
It is the big news of the day.

Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
Once you guys chime in seven one three, two one

should memorize right down for affordable tree service.

Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
More Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
We have the news that dude coming up at about
eleven minutes from now, give you details. We'll have a
little Philadelphi your freedom to open up the noon hour.
We'll get to the headlines of the day and uh
we will chime into some other things, but largely about
the Super Bowl. I'll tell you this, and I think
I'm just like everybody else. If the game isn't great

(01:15:49):
and on the edge of your seat, you wind up
talking to your buddies a little bit more, you wind
up getting in your phone a little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
I didn't pay much attention to the commercials yesterday. I
can't even I remember the one with Eugene Levy's eyebrows
flying off.

Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
I can't even remember them. There was I actually watched
the Little Seal one was terrible. That was creepy. Yeah. See,
I didn't think Seal was a lot to come out
and play have regular stuff. I mean a little bit
of a checkered past, does he not? Does he? What happened?
I mean besides sleeping with Heidi Klub for twenty years.
Wasn't there something about maybe I'm mixed against my stars,

(01:16:26):
something about some young relationships. I mean, I honestly don't know. Okay,
well's skip past that. Actually, I actually watched the Today
Show to the Today and they went to the top three.
They said that the number three number the first two
I don't really remember. The number three was interesting. It

(01:16:47):
was when they were playing pickleball and they were playing
for boltra Beer. Oh yeah, yeah, which nobody does. I
saw her a tweet. It was funny. Thank you, Matt.
I had you muted before. That's okay. You crushed me
for saying something about the officials, and you thought I
was bit stealing from you.

Speaker 4 (01:17:09):
I really didn't see that. I know you didn't, but
you made me feel bad.

Speaker 2 (01:17:12):
Oh you did. I was just messing with you. Yeah,
but it was it was really because I mean, let
me tell you something, there are people bit stealing me constantly.
The great minds think alike as we're just supposed to
say that.

Speaker 4 (01:17:21):
I actually put long sorry long muted.

Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
I didn't.

Speaker 4 (01:17:24):
It's okay, That's what I went with. So the point
being is I just.

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
It's nice that Philadelphia won because we don't think about
the official crap anymore. Yeah, and that was like we
we both agreed that was the right call with the
in general, I mean, yeah, the first call. So I
just and I made a joke about the officiating and
one dude is thought I was being serious about it.

(01:17:51):
Oh okay, yeah, it's very good. He got that was
that's the guy you got Twitter beef with. Yeah, you
guys are beef and hard. Now, no, he's he he
wanted me to thought I was gonna block him. I'm like,
I'm not blocking you, I'm gonna mute you. And he thought, oh,
muting is way worse than blocking, because he's an idiot.
I said, I hate to tell you this, but not

(01:18:12):
everybody that lives in Houston, Texans are smart. Texas are
smart people. We have dumb ones here in Houston, Like
they're dumb ones and everywhere in their Country've been on
these roads man conversation with some of these people apparently
on Twitter. Now, I saw he follows, and I'm like,
but some surprise, you follow these people. I'm not surprised.
Actually interesting. So yeah, but so I didn't really spend

(01:18:34):
a whole lot of time catching commercials uh. I did, however,
watch that show the I don't know that the robb
Low Game Show after the Floor the Floor? How was it?

Speaker 5 (01:18:50):
It was?

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Let's get the game show review from the game show experts.

Speaker 4 (01:18:53):
It was okay. The gameplay itself wasn't bad.

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
Yeah, but the rules about who you go against, what
your specialty is, and how the floor is determined, it
was kind of confusing. See now, isn't that one of
the keys to a great game show is it's kind
of easy to understand. That's what I'm saying. If you
have to go into a deep dive of how to
play the game, you lose me. So half the game
is really easy. It's like going to game night with
your friends, Like I don't know what's happening here. Yeah,

(01:19:21):
but half of the game is really fun and interesting, okay,
and the other half was very confusing.

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
So but I actually watched more of it now.

Speaker 2 (01:19:29):
Somebody, Greg Rajan, who writes with The Chronicle, one of
their editors, was like, remember when the when used to
have these great TV shows that would lead would would
be debuted, Yes, like The Wonder Years debuted after a
Super Bowl back in the late eighties. That it was
a time as classic for me. This is Us debuted
after a super Bowl before on NBC. Now, that's again,

(01:19:52):
that's not in your wheelhouse, Finn requested me, or whatever?
What about that? Now that show on there? You love
that show? Now, that show sucked. I never watched one
episode and you hadn't hated it like that one in
Bob Hart's Abashola. That show is a mess too.

Speaker 4 (01:20:06):
Okay, I'll take your word.

Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
But it's interesting that somebody at Fox said, hey, let's
put a game show on right after the super Bowl. Now, again,
the average person is going to turn the television up,
and not everybody does. Mm hmm. I would have put
on a ridiculously awesome show that I thought was going
to be one that could be generational, that could be

(01:20:29):
on for a nice long run. It's compared to one
of these high tech game shows. Yeah, I'm trying to
find out a list of shows that came out after
the there's gotta be he came on after the super Bowl?
Is that right?

Speaker 4 (01:20:42):
In nineteen sixty seven? That's crazy? Did you guys always
say the voice oh on NBC?

Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
Huh yeah, Okay, That's what I'm saying, and not that
I'm in charge of television program. But I would think
you'd want to put on something that you think is
going to be And maybe maybe the Fox folks think
the Voice, I mean the Floor is gonna be one
of the ten or fifteen year.

Speaker 4 (01:21:01):
Game show thing.

Speaker 2 (01:21:03):
Maybe and Rob Low I mean fairly popular, especially with
a younger crowd when he was younger. Oh they went
straight to the Olympics in twenty twenty two. The Equalizer.
I remember that the Masks singer, oh this is us
like you mentioned, yeah Brooklyn ninety nine.

Speaker 4 (01:21:22):
Oh, but Matt Fox is a bad idea.

Speaker 2 (01:21:24):
But it's the mass singer of the biggest embarrassing show
on television today. It's ridiculous. It's basically a bunch of
weirdo Connor love ittt No, I'm just saying it's pretty popular,
I know, but so is well so other Kardashians. Doesn't
make a great quality.

Speaker 4 (01:21:38):
Telego Office Gray's Anatomy, The Simpsons been a lot of
big ones after the Super Bowl X Files back in
the day. Did John Larra Cats Show ninety four?

Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
Oh, how that got? It didn't last the season? I mean, seriously,
if you don't rate, if you don't air Wolf in
nineteen eighty four. Air Wolf. That's Clinton's favorite show, Believe
it or not or we're gonna do Eagles, It's up
to you.

Speaker 4 (01:22:03):
It's actually pretty good. We've got two hours.

Speaker 2 (01:22:05):
Yeah, it was a Airwolf nineteen eighty four. Let's still
listen to this. Listen, We're gonna We're gonna see people
listen to the show. We're gonna did this show debut
after a super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (01:22:12):
Last sixty seven is a believe it? Airwolf eighty four
is a believer And let's do with a Let's do
a not here, Let's give you help what's on.

Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Let's give you night. I'm gonna write these down now,
let's give you friends ninety five. Okay, it is true,
though I gotta make sure you better check it out. Yeah,
all right.

Speaker 4 (01:22:30):
The News at Noon is coming up next.

Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
The big headlines the day plus a little Philadelphia freedom
as the Eagles celebrate another Super Bowl title and Pat
Mahomes said, the two losses in the last handful of
years have heard as much as the big wins.

Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
Do you believe them or not? I think I believe them.
I think I do too.

Speaker 2 (01:22:49):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven

Speaker 4 (01:25:12):
Hey gee, l e s Eagles, What are we gonna
do when the Texans went?

Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
That's that?

Speaker 4 (01:25:19):
That was a chant throughout the whole night last night
in New Orleans.

Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
Hugh Ston Tech.

Speaker 4 (01:25:23):
Since hugh Ston Tech sense now what it is?

Speaker 2 (01:25:25):
That's the only time I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:25:27):
Okay, you gotta get ready.

Speaker 2 (01:25:28):
You're gonna give my battle red folks and figure it
out my battle red peeps maybe need a traveling Texans meeting.

Speaker 4 (01:25:34):
I think they haven't tweeted it in a while.

Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Yeah, they're probably getting their shots and stuff. What do
you mean, I mean they probably have some teenness. Yeah,
a little bit of that. Okay, less TD action. Maybe
you never know. Hey, I'm gonna go out in the rain.
You gotta way you rubber boots, Matt, We'll putting that
out a shirt too. I think I feel like I'm
working with Gump sometimes Forrest Gump. Yeah, well stupid is stupid?

(01:25:58):
Does Matt? Yeah? Remember that blank happens and then he
puts it. He wipes them mount on his shirt. Yes,
I don't mean to give away a spoilter. Come on, man,
that plus Jenny was a whore. But it's a different
issue for a different time. Spoilers from nineteen ninety four,
I know, twelve or six. It is the Matt Tomas
Show with Ross. We've got a super Bowl champion. We've
got NFL fatigue now or non fatigue, you know what
it was? My wife thought was weird that I was

(01:26:19):
talking about She's fatigue yesterday She's like, do you really
think there is She's fatigue?

Speaker 4 (01:26:24):
I said, absolutely there is. I think there is, but
she did. She's not feeling it.

Speaker 2 (01:26:28):
No, she's not. She she like a pro Taylor then
pro so, Thus protest was the family was pro Chiefs
because of Pat Mahomes. The only reason for Oh okay,
I mean everybody in the house. Carly went to a party,
my son, my oldest went to a party. He Anthrey Warick.
Actually they're all wearing my home stuff. They're Pat Mahomes fans. Okay,
so that naturally is going to gravitate towards the team
he plays for. I didn't care one way or the other.

(01:26:52):
I was wanting a great game and I didn't get it.
I don't think America got it. And if you're a
Philadelphia fiing, you love very minute of it. Like, for instance,
we didn't want the rock Gets won their championship in
ninety five.

Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
It was for nothing. They beat the Magic right, Yes,
we loved it. Oh yeah, we didn't care.

Speaker 2 (01:27:08):
Ninety percent. America's like, no, this was a four game sweep.
Nick Anderson bricks free throws. This is not fine. When
you're a fan, you want four forty point sweeps. Yeah,
Philly didn't care when the Astros won the ninety seven
World Series. That Game seven, which was anti climactic set
twenty seventeen. Yeah, with President Trump was in Game seven.

(01:27:30):
But it was a Lozzi games, so the greatest games
anyone's ever seen. Jeff Luno did a great job of
Skipper Ring. Yeah, that wasn't a great game. We loved
it though we didn't care. Yeah, but it had no
drama to it.

Speaker 7 (01:27:42):
No.

Speaker 4 (01:27:44):
Twenty twenty two had some drama, oh for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
For sure, but you have a feeling of what the
game is, if you got the local team involved in it,
that you're gonna love it a lot more than America did.
And I think America largely and we all watch because
nothing else on. You know what I normally have done
in the past, didn't do yesterday. I didn't flip around
to see what else was on. Now. One are the
TVs in my house? At five point thirty, we didn't

(01:28:09):
have turned out. We turned it on. It was on
Channel two and Lester Holt was doing a Sunday night
newscast that's okay, made news anchor on NBC. I'm thinking, man,
are you why are you working on a Sunday first
and foremost second, wile you're wasting your time.

Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
Lester's out there grinding. Maybe he is.

Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
You're making big money, you gotta work. Fine, Yeah, man,
he's got to go in there and read with somebody
wrote for him. Is all I gotta do? And then
not doing live, Well, not everybody can do it, Matt,
That's true. Anchor Man had an issue, Yes he did,
but yeah I didn't. Did you flip around and see
what else? What else was on?

Speaker 7 (01:28:42):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
What did ESPN have on Super Bowl? Fox had great
that The the Fox four K picture was great, by
the way, Yeah, normally it's like eh, but I thought
that was really it was. It was captivating to me anyways.
I mean, if you're if you're a non football fan
of sport fan, Lifetime was right up your ally because
you could watch all your show at your hg TV,

(01:29:04):
your Bravo.

Speaker 4 (01:29:04):
They didn't have to change your programming. The Puppy Bowl one,
I don't think there was.

Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
Bo.

Speaker 4 (01:29:10):
Did you catch in this Eli versus.

Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
Paint? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:29:16):
I think I saw it on I saw it on
either Twitter or maybe YouTuber.

Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
So I think it was the saf the fact that
the kicking event was live, and then they had some
commercials that were pre done to determine who that after
it was done, which, uh, Peyton Manning dooinked one, which
is pretty incredible, and Eli kicked it right through. Yes,
you know why Eli did that. He's madaging it in

(01:29:43):
the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Well he didn't deserve it,
by the way. Speaking of that, so they announced the
people in the Super Bowl that were going to the
Pro Fooball Hall of Fame. Everybody but Sterling Sharp was
there and that was confusing to me. Where was he?

(01:30:03):
I don't know if there was I have not found
out if there was a reason for his not being there,
but you get you get your first opportunity to wave
to the crowd going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame,
and I mean, I hope he's not sick.

Speaker 4 (01:30:17):
Maybe he was busy, maybe somebody went the family.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
I don't know. I am not googled it, but it
was just it was odd to me that he was
not there. He was the only one of the group
that's going into the Hall. And I guess the hall
is going in with a very small group. Yeah, there's
only four right right, and he was not one of them.
I just wondering if he was doing because he was
mad about something or whatever the case may be. But

(01:30:39):
he was not.

Speaker 4 (01:30:40):
He was not at the event.

Speaker 2 (01:30:41):
Last night. I saw the video when his brother told
him he was the one he was making it into
the Hall of Fame. Did he go skip?

Speaker 4 (01:30:47):
He was indisplate. No, he didn't say.

Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
Skip skip skip. My brother's going to the Hall of Fame. Hey,
Shannon or certain did you see in that video I
put out a few.

Speaker 4 (01:30:55):
Months ago, Shay sha.

Speaker 2 (01:30:58):
Uncle Shay Shay. No, he's with his brother. It was
a great moment. They tear up, hugged. Yeah, they hugged.
If I think Shannon was tearing up more than Sterling.
If I ever get into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame,
will you come to the door, knock on my door
and say, Matt, you got in. You want me to
be the one to tell you I'm it'd be awesome. Okay,
Now let's get you voted. Can you pay my due

(01:31:18):
so I can nominate you? So basically all it takes
is you just paying dues to get to this thing.
Man's all.

Speaker 4 (01:31:23):
I can only nominate you if I pay you dues.
I don't know if you're gonna win.

Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
All right, get in there and it's listening that's a
Texas Radio Hall of Fame wants to pay the dues
for Ross to nominate me. I can't.

Speaker 4 (01:31:33):
That'd be a conflict of interest.

Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
No, it's not.

Speaker 4 (01:31:35):
Why how did Ross get in? Matt paid for?

Speaker 1 (01:31:37):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
No, you get we're getting you in. Oh I see. Okay,
the Hall of Fame you gotta shout to You've been
in the business of a decade. Okay, I've seen who
they've honored the last few years, and it won't be
that difficult. I'm not worried about it me either. I'm
worried about paycheck to paycheck seven one three two one
two five seven out of If you want to join

(01:31:58):
our conversation seven one three two one two five seven
ninety I put out a question. It's a new daily
I'm finding listen to pre show tweet Ross. I don't
see how this is gonna go mm hmm. And my
pre show tweet, which was earlier today, was what did
you do once the game got out of hand? Meaning
how did you spend the rest of your night? And

(01:32:18):
let's see what people had to say. I spent, Tiffany says,
I spent the rest of the night watching the football game.
M good good for you, Tiffany. I watched the whole
game too, Botso says, I spent the rest of the
night enjoying Casey's self destruction. Hm hmm. All right. Then
when people thought they were trying to answer what I

(01:32:38):
did the rest of the night, they go dra says,
reviewing Taylor's.

Speaker 4 (01:32:41):
Prop bets, I bet you were. I did not see
how she did.

Speaker 2 (01:32:46):
When we get a recap from you, Matt, how about
tomorrow when she puts out her next tweet, she'll tell
us how she did. Plus, if she's in Costa Rica,
I may make sure she you know she people were
concerned about her tankline.

Speaker 4 (01:32:56):
Did you notice that?

Speaker 5 (01:32:57):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
I didn't notice.

Speaker 4 (01:32:58):
All right, let's see here. Uh yeah, just a lot
of stuff about what I was doing.

Speaker 2 (01:33:07):
And then Pollard's vision comes in and says the Texans
promoted on an offensive line coach would be the new
head O line coach. How does that unprove improve an
all horrible O line? Makes zero sense? Maybe maybe this,
maybe that young assistant coach was being hampered by the
old guy that was around. Not the old guy, but
the guy was in front of him. Yeah, now, mister

(01:33:28):
cole Popovich can can flex his muscles. Yeah, Cole's like,
I really want to do it this way, and the
other guy's like, no, no, we're gonnat the old school way. Yeah,
but I can.

Speaker 4 (01:33:37):
I can make Kendrick Green a much better player. No,
you can't.

Speaker 2 (01:33:40):
He sucks.

Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
Maybe Nick Kayley will be a better fit with the
offensive line personnel. Man, that's what people are thinking.

Speaker 2 (01:33:45):
So you have a first time O line coach and
a first time offensive coordinator, first time play called it right,
calling the Texans offense. We'll be breaking it down because
the dis guys in the next five six months, Jimmy's
and Joe's matter better more than X's in a So
get some players and these guys will be smart enough
to get them in good position to win.

Speaker 4 (01:34:03):
You ready for some draft top absolutely every day, hours
of wait, hours of it.

Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
I'm ready, we got spring training first. I'm actually not ready.
I got rockets. I'm getting ready.

Speaker 1 (01:34:13):
I'm getting ready.

Speaker 2 (01:34:13):
You know we forgot to do No, we'll do it next.
The news at noon, Oh, it is such a you're yeah,
you're thrown off from being here.

Speaker 4 (01:34:23):
That could be accurate. The news at twelve twenty is
up next.

Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
That's a good secing with Yeah, is our news around
noon seven one three two one two five seven, Honey,
I gotta be honest with you. I wish I had
brought some of the leftover some Big City Wings to
the office today. Delicious wings. We had onion rings with
the onion ring sauce. That was great.

Speaker 8 (01:34:45):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
We got a salad with grilled chicken in it as well.
We ate like Kings and Queen yesterday and we brought
it home from Big City Wings. Hopefull. You can do
that as well, whether you are want to go take
the family out for a nice night of dinner and
watching big screen televisions galore with your favorites sports on,
or you want to bring some home. You can do
that today with Big City Wings. I want to tell
you about They've got crawfish now that's back. They have

(01:35:09):
a street pack, a Big City Pack, an executive pack,
which comes with various amounts of wings, whether it be
fifteen one hundred, one hundred and fifty with two four
or six orders of side orders, two dressing salaries, and
other things that go with it and just makes it
a great opportunity for you to bring home and feed
a big group of family, whether it's a family of five, six, seven,
or just having some brows over to throw cards around.

(01:35:31):
Maus well feed them right with the best Wings in Houston,
Texas with now thirteen locations of Big City Wings. The
Monday Special one dollar tenders minimum five available all day long,
including right this second, plus bud Light and Ultras are
five dollars on thirty four ounce spears all today, all
day long, thirty four ounce speers for five one dollar
chicken tenders and those big Game day packs, which will

(01:35:53):
be satisfactory, especially if you're putting together people together for
the upcoming in CAA basketball tournament or just watching us
a day of basketball at the house.

Speaker 4 (01:36:01):
It's Big City Wings and Big City Wings dot com.

Speaker 8 (01:36:04):
Go back to Matt Thomas and Ross via Real on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:36:14):
You know, sometimes the timing of the show is my fault,
and in this particular taste, it is one hundred percent
my fault. It's the news at twelve twenty. Here's Ross
all right, Matt, Yes, of course, what is going to
be the top headline of the day, Well, that'd be
what happened yesterday the Super Bowl is the Eagles destroyed

(01:36:34):
Pat Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs thirty sixteen homes
roll out looking fire Desine.

Speaker 1 (01:36:45):
Desine is.

Speaker 2 (01:36:51):
Down six team sacks for the Philadelphia Eagles, harrising Patrick
Mahomes into irish. Oh Patrick Mahomes, what a lovely lad
he is, a couple of interceptions. He did have three
touchdowns and did go over on his total with that.

(01:37:11):
Bombed a Xavier Worthy late, but a lot of that
coming in garbage time. So Kwan Barkley largely on. I
say Kwan Barkley bottled up by the Philadelphia Eagles. But
Jalen Hurts dared to do his thing and he did
two hundred and twenty one yards. Did have the bad pick,
but also a couple of touchdowns. Eagles thrashed the Chiefs
forty to twenty two, and it wasn't even that close.

(01:37:33):
And he thought of giving the MVP award to one
of the two or three defensive players for the Eagles.
That's the real MVP. That's just not how it really goes.
I mean, maybe you want to go with Josh Sweat
or somebody else. I would have sacks for him. I
would have to go through look through pressure numbers and
stuff like that. And with that, you want to keep
it simple, which they do right. Just give it to
the quarterback I got. He threw two touchdowns.

Speaker 4 (01:37:53):
He was really good.

Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
That's fine. The reverse MVP to me, who really costs
that well? Probably the Chiefs offensive line. But Pat Mahomes
was not good. Here's what he had to say about
his turnovers.

Speaker 14 (01:38:04):
Obviously, the turnovers hurt, and I mean, I just gotta
I take all the blame for that. I mean, just
those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game. And
then they capitalized on them and they scored. I mean
they scored on them one and then they got a
touchdown immediately after. So it's fourteen points that I kind
of gave them, and it's hard to come back from
that and the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
That's kind of been the story a lot of the playoffs. Man,
It's even though the Eagles are the better team than
the Chiefs, they're not eighteen points worse. No, did Vegas
get this wrong or was this just a good old
fashion that the Eagles showed up and played significantly harder
than Kansas City. I think they had the wrong favorite,
but I also think it was really close. And I
also think that what rand true throughout the playoffs. The

(01:38:46):
team that took care of the ball best won most
of these playoff games. And that's just what it comes
down to. Yep.

Speaker 4 (01:38:51):
But again and Ross and I brought this up an
hour ago.

Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
If the Eagles and Chiefs played ten times, maybe Eagles
went six, but I won. Like the Chiefs couldn't have
couldn't have beat the Eagles yesterday if they would have
made adjustments to their offensive line, kept an maybe an
extra running back in staying in to allow bad to
have a little bit more time. I thought the blitz
pick up yesterday by U Saquon Barkley for Jalen Hurts

(01:39:14):
was a big part of the reason why he was
able to sit down field more so than Patrick Mahomes was. Yeah.
So the Eagles playing better on both sides of the
ball getting the victory in the Super Bowl. Matt, where
the halftime performance Kendrick Lamar a nation divided on? Hell
well he did? You did not care for the show, correct, Matt.
But I wasn't gonna like it regardless. It wasn't because

(01:39:36):
he was gonna surprise me. It's just not what I
would would have wanted to watch. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:39:40):
I mean, for instance, if we will if you took
me to an art museum.

Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
Like going to an art museum, to me sounds like
the most boring thing on mad There's no way I
go into a art museum and go, oh, this picture
of Picasso. Oh, it's choking up. I wasn't gonna I
wasn't gonna love I wasn't gonna hate it. I was
completely indifferent to what I watch it because of your benefit.
It was confusing, it was impossible to understand. The mix

(01:40:07):
wasn't good. I didn't understand the storyline. You did a
very good job of explaining what the storyline was. Just
let's give me give me some rock and roll next year.
That's all I asked.

Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
I think you're probably gonna get it. We'll see, but
it will be up to jay Z's decision. By the way,
a Museum of Modern Art in Houston a lot of
great stuff. I'm sorry, Fine Arts in Houston, and the
Menil Collection also has some good stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
The last museum I went to that I actually enjoyed
the World War Museum in New Orleans.

Speaker 4 (01:40:32):
I went to the Oh the World War Museum was great,
and I also went to the Museum of Modern Art
in New Orleans, which was great. They had a lot
of stuff that I didn't think they were going to have.

Speaker 2 (01:40:41):
Yeah, I can only do one museum per New Orleans.
Ship the rest time I'm usually at I could do
all music at.

Speaker 4 (01:40:48):
Table limits get high in New Orleans. Man, I wonder
what it was.

Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
Did you see? Did you see Bourbon Street the night
before the game? Apparently it was pretty crazy packed.

Speaker 4 (01:40:58):
You couldn't move.

Speaker 2 (01:40:59):
I mean, thank god nothing happened in terms of crowd
control issues. But I'm I'll say this and not that.
I look at a lot of pictures of Bourbon Street
on Randall Knight, but it looked like to me, of
all the photos I've ever seen about Bourbon Street, it
was the most packed I've ever seen it. Yeah, that
just does not appeal to me.

Speaker 4 (01:41:16):
No, I love Bourbon Street and I'll go there usually
on regular Like I wouldn't go I've never been to
on our special occasion Marty Girls, super Bowl, New Year's
I mean I was in New Orleans for New Years
but we went to a private party.

Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
It was different.

Speaker 4 (01:41:30):
Anyways, what are talking about news at noon?

Speaker 2 (01:41:32):
How about let's get.

Speaker 4 (01:41:33):
Some man Thomas voice in. How about two highlights?

Speaker 9 (01:41:35):
One?

Speaker 2 (01:41:35):
Okay, Jalen with a lob to Jack Landell, giving it
back to Jalalen shot clock at five crossovers straight on,
step back three nothing but no, and for the first time,
the Rockets have a double digit lead. Eighty six seventy six.
Chalen went fifteen, All right, you have to play the
Jeff Green highlight, which one. Oh, there can't be that many.

(01:41:58):
Jeff Green doesn't play that much, Jeff monster jam sounds good?
What why are we just innundating people with highlights? Here's
Shepherd across McCourt answer to Jeff screened by Reid. How
about this Jeff down on the land weather and oh by,
we're watching twenty four year old Jeff greed fourteen for

(01:42:21):
the contest, And obviously the big part of that highlight
was the reed shepherds screen to allow Jeff Green to
go down the heart of the line. Read Shepherd with
all of two points over three from three Rockets, doing
just enough to defeat the Raptors to snap their six
game losing streak ninety four to eighty seven. No, it's
not nineteen ninety eight, Matt, it's twenty twenty five. It
was a must win for me. It was an ugly,

(01:42:43):
ugly game. Dylan Brooks with nineteen doing just enough, Jalen
Green had eighteen, and how about Jack Landell with a
double double? Alprin Chingoon only playing three minutes in this one,
leaving the game with backspasm issues. You are already down.
Steven Adams with an ankle injury, down, Tari Easton managing
his injury, Jerris Smith Junior with the hand injury, Friend

(01:43:04):
Van Vleet with his ankle injury. Rockets are road weary
and beat up, but got the victory. Matt, and I'll
tell you.

Speaker 4 (01:43:10):
Email is like, can you give me six minutes tonight?

Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
I'm like, for what we were running? We were running,
were run about it usually two to three. Well I
could have gone six for him, HM twelve twenty eight.
Donald mcgovery, go ahead and write that down for us.
That's terrible.

Speaker 4 (01:43:30):
I don't know if he's paying attention. Hopefully he is.
I need a fu up. No, he didn't see he
didn't hear it.

Speaker 5 (01:43:34):
Thank god.

Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
We'll hear that one on Friday elsewhere. Matt NFL News
over the weekend. Aaron Rodgers no longer going to be
a New York Jet.

Speaker 4 (01:43:44):
That's the right decision.

Speaker 2 (01:43:46):
He you go on first, all, he was never mobiled
begin with, but he could run a little bit, had
some escapeability. Now he's got no escapability, and he could
make throws off his back foot as good as he
could when he steps into his throat the backfoot throws
because rusher came or like pop flies. I think he
can get on with a team, but I certainly wouldn't

(01:44:08):
build a football team around him. I think Aaron Rodgers
can find himself back in the football team if someone
gets hurt between say now and they start of the preseason.
Other than that, why would you want to forty one
year old who just doesn't have much left in the fastball?
He just doesn't Hall of Fame career, one of the
all time greats. But Davis, Oh he is. I agree,

(01:44:34):
he is, and he's just much. And that's your NEWSIC noon,
I get ish. That's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:44:42):
That's again. That's on me for mixing that up.

Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
Twelve thirty on Sports Talk seven ninety It is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. We did not talk about Tom
Brady's performance. We'll discuss that next.

Speaker 15 (01:44:55):
Anything about the game you want to get into and
whether or not you you felt better or worse about
your Texans after watching Kansas City and Philadelphia play, Meaning,
did Kansas City's offensive line wolf for performance scare you
even more about the Texans am not about getting to
the Super Sunday? Or did you say now that Kansas

(01:45:19):
City has shown some vulnerability that maybe the Texans will
have a little bit of an easier path towards ultimately
getting to their first AFC Championship.

Speaker 2 (01:45:27):
What's your thoughts on that? Seven one three two one

Lunchtimers, lunch timers.

Speaker 8 (01:46:39):
It's the Matt Thomas Show Show with Ross on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
Twelve thirty four of The Matt Thomas Show at Ross.
We are with you till two o'clock this say afternoon
seven one three two one two five seven NINTI. Believe
it or not?

Speaker 4 (01:46:57):
Today is highly googleable.

Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
We've already discussed the topic on the show earlier today,
so you have no excuses.

Speaker 4 (01:47:05):
Kind of what are we playing for him?

Speaker 2 (01:47:06):
Believe it or not?

Speaker 4 (01:47:07):
That we got the prize vault is abundant with prizes.

Speaker 7 (01:47:10):
Yeah, we got a four pack of tickets to Marty
gra Galveston, and then a pair of tickets to Brooks
and Dunn, not the Houston Rodeo.

Speaker 2 (01:47:17):
Marty Grass Galveston, It's fine, all right, I've been, I
mean Marty I would party safe to say it's the
third best place for Marty Grow in the country. Okay,
Number one is New Orleans two Mobile the home the
birthplace of Marty Grass. Now what about Lafayette? Now, Maddie,
come on now, baby, I don't want to go to

(01:47:38):
Copeland's against some fried food and get charge a lot
of money. I've been to Marty Grow and Lafayette it's nice.
I've been to Copelands, nice and more family friendly. In Lafayette.
M hm, they have gambling there. I don't believe something.
So they got gumbo though, oh quite delicious.

Speaker 4 (01:47:52):
Denver's got gumbo.

Speaker 2 (01:47:54):
Stop? Is it better in Lafayette or Denver? They got
the rouge there that they call it rue through whatever. Yeah,
mix made with of course, the holy Trinity of Creole cooking.
That sounds like a celery onion bell peppers.

Speaker 4 (01:48:10):
Go get some. Let's shud get some gumbo for the
show today. Good, let's go. It's too warm for gumbo though,
like two weeks ago. It was perfect for gumm.

Speaker 2 (01:48:16):
It was perfect.

Speaker 4 (01:48:17):
Yeah, that's always a good time for gumbo.

Speaker 2 (01:48:19):
Man, god it was. We were in Minneapolis. We left
our day. It was ten degrees m I think to myself, again,
what the hell was I thinking? I have a stupid question. Please,
how do they keep like ice and stuff off the
planes when it's just ten degrees? The icing?

Speaker 4 (01:48:35):
Yeah, they just like they said, what is that?

Speaker 2 (01:48:37):
Even entail? They put like a a it's like a
blue solution on there. Okay, do not mark this. Oh
it's a blue fluid that's sprayed all over the place
on the plane and.

Speaker 4 (01:48:49):
It melts the ice. Yes, and they do that before
you take off.

Speaker 2 (01:48:52):
Yes, okay, I told you it was a stupid Now,
as long if there's no precipitation, you can you can,
Like we left other day, where'd we go? It was
like thirty and we left. We didn't have to de ice.
I can't remember where it was. Actually, I don't think
we we ice in Minneapolis either. The only time you
have to worry about icing is if there's any precipitation
in the here. Okay, it's just cold cold, it's fine,
it's fine. You've never been on a plane that's been

(01:49:15):
the ice. So that's really weird because you've been that much,
but you've been in northern venues. What they do is
they have these huge trucks and it's just this long
white pipe and they just spray the whole plane and
usually the wings. But these are the ones are getting
on the plane. Oh god, this is this?

Speaker 5 (01:49:36):
Is this up?

Speaker 2 (01:49:39):
We set all this up? No, And look, I have
people that are listening right now that have been on planes.
I'm describing it accurately. Yeah, I'm sure you are. I
just don't fly as much as you do. Yeah, But
and it's it's a little bit of a pain in
the ass because you have to wait and then you realize, well,
it's probably gonna save.

Speaker 4 (01:49:57):
Our lives, so probably a good thing. I'm okay with it.

Speaker 2 (01:49:59):
You can take an extra few minutes, so yeah, But
normally you have to have some sort of precipitation in
order for so if it's like fifteen or twenty degrees,
you can do it. But if there was any water
accumulation that adds with the cold and ice is over,
and that's when they want to take care of that.
And a lot of it was because of a plane
crash back in the early eighties, and ironically enough, National
Airport in DC, they didn't know about the icing or

(01:50:20):
didn't de ice the plane, and that's when they decided
to find this formula that would help him take care
of it. So, wow, thank you. Aviation is true. With
Matt Thomas, it's morbid. I'm going to DC this Friday.
As a matter of fact, I'm a little creeped out
about Finders. No, my daughter's got a volleyball tur No Wizards,
it's all Star bars. I thought they already played the Wizards.
It's all Star break real quick on the NBA, Anthony

(01:50:43):
Davis kicks the ass Rockets, asked for a half, right, yes,
and then it's hurt, hurt, and he had the he
had the ab injury I think is what he recently
had when he was traded. No one touched him as
he got hurt. Again, that's worrisome. A doctor ad d uctr,
a doctor injury. I really don't feel a lot of

(01:51:04):
sympathy for mas fans. I kind of almost do. So
let me tell you about Saturday. So Saturday, we leave
the hotel at eleven thirty games at two o'clock and
we're driving in our hotel from the arena is probably
no more than ten minutes. They were about thirty or
forty people out there with signs, yes, you know, the protest.

(01:51:28):
The protest. We get in the building, I do all
my pregame stuff I gotta do. And I had some
friends of mine that were out in the arena and
they were on the concourse and they were shooting. It
got to a fairly large number of people out there.

Speaker 5 (01:51:42):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:51:42):
One of those people came in the arena to watch
the rockets by the Mavericks. I don't know, because Ad
got a very strong applause when he was announced, and
when he was first put on the jumbo tron. As
he came up for warm ups, he was well received
as well. Yeah, and then he has this awesome first quarters.
Here I'm here, don't forget about me. I'm here. Yeah,

(01:52:02):
he was. You're like, we know you're here. And then
third quarter he's not returning due to a stomach issue.
We know you're not here because you're not here in
the training room. Poor MAVs fans, You're like, you know what,
maybe this isn't so bad. Eighty is dominating and he's
hurt by the way, Luca, I think I saw this

(01:52:25):
on the sideline for up to a month. By the way,
the latest on Antony Davis got a mighty street closed.
Davis what Chuck Chuck calls him that? So, Luca I
think did himself a solid for Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (01:52:42):
Here it is.

Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
He is giving five hundred thousand dollars to the Los
Angeles area for recovery for people's homes I have lost
in the fire.

Speaker 4 (01:52:53):
Is that Luca did?

Speaker 10 (01:52:54):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (01:52:55):
Really, they're going to love him there, well, hopefully not
the millionaire people that lost their homes.

Speaker 2 (01:53:00):
Let me read it to you. It's been so sad
to learn more about the damage to the wildfire since
I landed in LA I can't believe it, and I
feel for the kids who've lost their homeschools, and places
where they used to play with their friends. Today, my
foundation is donating five hundred thousand dollars to a mediate
to a mediate mediate is that right? Mediate? Yeah, mediate
recovery efforts. I am also committed to helping rebuild courts,

(01:53:22):
playgrounds and fields that were destroyed, because every little kid
needs a safe place to play. To everyone effectively affected
by these fires, We're here to help now.

Speaker 4 (01:53:30):
And for the long haul. Your new neighbor, Luca.

Speaker 2 (01:53:33):
Oh, that's very nice. I'm going to retire his damn
jersey already seventy seven, he sure was available. Yeah. So
if he ever tones up a little bit like he's
got he never had muscle definition to begin with. You, No,
he's always been jojoey. But if he gives a damn

(01:53:54):
about his body and stops bitching about officiating, he's gonna win.
He's gonna have the Lakers win more titles. You understand this.
It troubles me. This is really interesting because I always
think about, you know, not always, but you think about
if things could have broken a different way. What if
the Mavericks don't trade him and sign him to a
Supermax and he never learns to get in shape and

(01:54:15):
he never cares. What if this kind of rattles his
cage enough to where he says, you know what, maybe
I need to get in better shape and he works
with Lebron's forty years old and works out like a madman. Yeah,
and this makes him better than he ever would have
been as a Maverick because he's a top five player
when he's Dowey. Imagine when he's not dowe how good
he could be. And because look, deey players, guys that

(01:54:37):
are have soft tissue injuries. Yes it's not in by accident.
And he was breaking down in the finals last year. Yeah,
did Nico Harrison unleach that beast? Did he make him
even better? But Nico Harrison, damn if you do, Damn

(01:54:59):
if you don't. If you do keep them, maybe they
would have continue to have the problems that they did.
If you're nick, if you're look, you got a chance
to get like you like, there's like a handful of
in and Ounce in Dallas. You got one like every
street corner Alloy. Maybe they got Del Taco too. Let
me tell you something about Del Taco and I'll give
him a sponsor mentioned even though I don't spend the
money with us. How you can go somewhere and can
get two soft tacos and order crinky cut cut fries

(01:55:21):
in the same menu. It's golden, it really is. It's
like going to a Kintaco hut. Oh you love those,
I do Welsh. You can get a two piece original recipe.
I wanna order breadsticks in a chill oup in one sitting.
It's genius. I tell you and a cold pepsiter wash

(01:55:42):
it all down. All right, all right, it's enough free
plugs for the show, So yeah, we're not doing any
more free plugs. Uh twelve forty three Sports Talk seven
NATI seven one three two one two five SEVENATI is

Speaker 8 (01:56:54):
Back to Matt Thomas scrives this day to lift center fail.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety, home of Astro's Baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:57:12):
So with the game being kind of lousy, not kind of,
it was definitely lows. You were trying to find other things.
Commercials didn't really hit home. Man. I know some people
really enjoyed them. Some are like, you know what, game's
not good. I'm gonna just like I had it all
on the television. But I was doing other things when
the game got out of the hand. I thought Tom
Brady for me, he's going out of his way to

(01:57:35):
rip officials. And that was something that he never wanted
to do as a player because he wanted to play.
He wanted the official on his side. But I wonder
if somebody put a bug in his here and said, hey,
don't be don't be a fencetter on this don't have
a strong take about this.

Speaker 4 (01:57:50):
Yeah, but he's not supposed to be able to criticize
the official He's not.

Speaker 2 (01:57:53):
That is a big no no. So that's why I'm saying,
I'm kind of curious, I'm kind of relaxing of the
rules or well, you know, he got to speak to
the coaches and players this week. He's never done that
before because the NFL said you can't do that. Now
the NFL's like, Okay, you can go in there and
talk to him. I think maybe, yeah, the rules even
let the rules go, probably in the playoffs as long
as the Raiders aren't in, and certainly the super Bowl.

(01:58:14):
I mean, there's no advantage they're going to gain being
in a meeting with the chiefs and learning about practice
and whatever how they practice this week as opposed to
how's that gonna affect them next year.

Speaker 9 (01:58:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:58:23):
The reality to me is that probably they're gonna have
some flexibility with this because Tom is the number one
analyst on one of the broadcast networks.

Speaker 4 (01:58:31):
He's going to be there.

Speaker 2 (01:58:33):
And if you believe what everybody else has been saying
from Fox and from Brady's camp that Tom Brady's going
to finish off this contract because the money is crazy
but yet ross for a guy that owns it just
a sliver of the writers. He was intimately involved in
Pete Carroll's hiring. He was interviewing people. Most guys that

(01:58:54):
have a minority stake in the in an NFL franchise
aren't involved in the day to day operations of it.
They're just doing it because they want to have it. Well,
most guys don't have seven Super Bowl rings. But you
know what I'm saying though, I mean, that's why the
NF And it's funny because Tom Brady did admit I
think he was on Colin Coward show that he said, look,
I have to call Goodell all the time. Am I
doing okay?

Speaker 4 (01:59:15):
Is this okay? Am I able to say this?

Speaker 2 (01:59:16):
And so he has a direct Lincoln, if you're Roger Goodell,
you're taking Tom Brady's.

Speaker 4 (01:59:20):
Phone call about this?

Speaker 2 (01:59:21):
Mm hmm. So it is a it is a bizarre situation.
I still and I will and I will follow my
sore on this. I think Tom Brady's thirst for running
a football team, I mean really making the most important
things will be something that he's going to still strive for.
And I still don't think he's going to finish out
the contract. I think if he takes any more of
a leadership role within ANFL team, whether it be the

(01:59:43):
Raiders or some other team, the other owners are going
to say enough's enough. I can't have an owner in
a broadcast with talking about other players on their teams
because Tom Brady, if he is a lot in those
interview rooms and you got a quarterback who is unhappy,
that wants to test for agency or wants to be
traded to I was like, man, we could certainly use
you in LA. I'm'na talk about the quarbacks. I'm talking
about any position LV Yeah, yeah, hmm yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:00:07):
I think it feels like this is just kind of
they're only going to allow him to do this when
Fox has the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (02:00:12):
That's my gut feeling on that that that feels about right,
that sometimes the game is so big you have to
have the because I'm in you have to be as
prepared for that game as you have to be prepared
for any broadcast in your life, because every single thing
you're going to say is going to be judge and evaluated.
And the person hates him most, it's probably his Fox

(02:00:33):
teammate Greg Olsen, who said I should be doing Olsen
hates Tom Brady more than anyone on this planet. Trying
to be polite about it, but it's just not going
to work. He's like, you took my job. I got
a downgrade. Instead of doing the Big Games three twenty five,
you know, Commanders versus Cowboys, Packers versus Rams, I'm doing
Panthers Saints at twelve. Uh yeah. By the way, Fox

(02:00:56):
doesn't get another one until twenty twenty nine, so that
these rotate with ABCCB NBC which all the buy all away,
all these paired with streaming networks NBC, Peacock, Yeah, ESPN,
ESPN Plus right, CBS, Paramount Plus and Fox and tub
had the game last night.

Speaker 4 (02:01:16):
What is to be heard?

Speaker 2 (02:01:19):
Free streaming service, but it's everything. Let's say you want
to watch a movie and it's only on two B.
You can watch the movie, but it's gonna have ads, okay,
but it's free.

Speaker 4 (02:01:27):
Yes, I just don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:01:31):
Are there people and it's owned by Fox? Okay, which
I just found out. Are there groups of people that
are not that have cord cut? So let's take that
group the money that you're saving from the chord cut
but you're buying Amazon, You're buying Netflix. Yes, you're buying
Paramount Plus, you're buying Peacock, You're buying Disney plus, Slash,

(02:01:54):
ESPN plus. That's six right, six networks. Ridiculous. So if
I take the six networks, am I really saving that
much money over just having their own channel. What happened
is people say these cable prices are too big, too good,
I'm sorry, too high, I'm gonna cut my cable. And
the network's all said, we don't get our money one

(02:02:15):
way or the other. We're gonna get it one way
or the other. Because what I just described, you can
watch everything you want off of just those six channels.
I hate when you're looking for a movie. We forget
about Max. We forgot about Max. We talk about Max,
which is a Warner Brother Yeah. Yeah, So if you don't,

(02:02:35):
if you want to watch the NCAA tournament, I'm assuming
that's gotta be a Max, Right, I can do it
on Max. Yes, yeah, it's insane, it's too much. Now,
I will say this, it is a nice benefit for
those of us that travel a lot to be able
to get on our phones and watch whatever we want
off of those channels and through my direct TV subscription,

(02:02:56):
I do get to see things on CBS NBC on
their general app, But like if a special show is
on Paramount Plus, I have to wait. I don't have
I don't buy for I don't pay for Paramount Plus.
It's very confusing. I know it's too much, it's ridiculous
and it's annoying, But let me ask you this, Even
though it's annoying, you are still paying what what are

(02:03:19):
each one of those networks about fourteen fifteen dollars a
month basically depending Yeah, so let's.

Speaker 4 (02:03:25):
Say you spent you bought five networks a month. Let's
say you were a.

Speaker 2 (02:03:31):
Amazon Prime person, you were a ESPN Plus person, and
you were a uh Peacock person.

Speaker 4 (02:03:41):
You're spending fifty bucks. That's one meal when you're going
on I mean, do you are?

Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
We are?

Speaker 12 (02:03:45):
We?

Speaker 2 (02:03:45):
I know what everything adds up. But if disposable income
is going to give you thirty days of your favorite
TV shows and your sports events and your ability to
watch it un remote, is it I know it's painful,
but is it really tame changer to say I'll go
without seeing it? Because if you wanted the Super Bowl
yesterday you figured out a way to watch the game,

(02:04:06):
whether you went to your friend's house, he went to
a big city wings or another bar went to tube,
you went to tubby antenna, went to your antenna, or
you watch on your phone because you were traveler, or
illegal streaming, which is big. You have a lot of.

Speaker 4 (02:04:21):
Yeah, so you get distracted, I would think, so, yeah, yeah,
after you spend two hundred dollars on the on the
live streaming lady.

Speaker 2 (02:04:28):
Man, I gotta be honest with you. I've looked at
a bunch of games on illegal streams. They're fifty pop ups.
I'm popped up free tired of the pop ups? Okay
that you gotta pay up? Pop up or pay up
Mandy the end of what.

Speaker 4 (02:04:41):
They got me, They absolutely got me, Rossie. I'm paying up.

Speaker 2 (02:04:44):
Tired of the pop ups, especially, I'm afraid they're gonna
like put viruses on my computer and stuff. I don't
need that. Yeah, I don't download anything, no, God, no,
don't ever click anything on those pop ups. Matt, Thank
you very much for that.

Speaker 4 (02:04:56):
That's today is Ross's sage advice?

Speaker 2 (02:04:58):
Yes all right? Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven to one three two one two five
seven on our friend Needle is gonna come in he's
is he cord cutting or is he trying to cut
put the chord back? I wonder remember ten years ago
Ross everybody was chord cutting. It was so bracket oceans
about it. Are we now coming back saying you know what, Yeah,
cord cutting?

Speaker 4 (02:05:17):
Hey, can you get me your password to the ESPN plus,
I'm trying to watch this game.

Speaker 2 (02:05:21):
That's how it always was with me. Everybody I knew
there was chord cutting, like within two months were asking
me for my passwords.

Speaker 4 (02:05:27):
It feels about right. So you're basically just being cheap.

Speaker 2 (02:05:31):
Yeah, if you're bragging about cord cutting, you're just a
cheap bastard.

Speaker 1 (02:05:37):
Maybe they're reading more books.

Speaker 2 (02:05:39):
Nope, No, what books you reading these today?

Speaker 4 (02:05:42):
Which lost book?

Speaker 2 (02:05:43):
I'm still reading that? Uh that Jim Thorpe book. Okay,
I have like six hundred page I got one episode
left of the Jerry Springer uh Netflix documentary, and then
I'm going on to the O. J. Simpson one. Apparently
that was fantastic. Next, I'll be reading that book they
wrote about dream last year. I keep the dream. Really,
I don't like I'm bringing any books time I'll give

(02:06:03):
it to you afterwards.

Speaker 4 (02:06:04):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (02:06:05):
Twelve to fifty eight final hour. We got uh in
fifty minutes, believe it or not. Today, highly google Bill
about the topic we just talked about earlier in the show.
So if you listened to the show earlier, you have
already been set up and locked and loaded. Twelve fifty
eight Sports Talk, seven hunty.

Speaker 1 (02:06:19):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show. We're down a
one hour.

Speaker 2 (02:06:25):
On this show we call the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We thank you very much for spending part of your
day with us. We want you to spend all four.
We got to figure out something to take care of
those that are listening to us at least fifteen hours
per week. Wouldn't that be nice that we could do something.
We'll figure out, okay, but I want to I want
to do like you know how when you fly a
particular airline you get like points.

Speaker 6 (02:06:45):
Hmmm?

Speaker 5 (02:06:46):
I like that.

Speaker 4 (02:06:46):
Like we would need a frequent listener club. How do
you have them collect tokens?

Speaker 2 (02:06:52):
Don't? I don't know. We're gonna think about this that
we have. We need a brainstorm. Maybe maybe we'll get
you some rocket tickets or something. I mean, I want
to be something nice. Let's do that because I think
that you know, uh, we're we need to be you know,
I want I want to take care of those that
we in the radio business calling pe ones that don't
ever change.

Speaker 4 (02:07:08):
I want to take care of you one, which means
preset one. Yeah, which I never knew that until I
was in the business for like ten years.

Speaker 2 (02:07:13):
Well, there should be a radio station in Dallas still
as they called all their their main listens, they call
him p one'es. What do we call our listeners? Everybody
has a nickname for their listeners. Smarter than other stations
listeners day drunks. That's fine. You could, I mean again,
you could drink during my show. I don't hot in
problem with that. Just don't drive, Yeah, that's true. Stay
safe about their folks. Unlike Pat mahomes father, what happened

(02:07:36):
with him? He said multiple duso speaking of that, a
current news reporter in town has a second DUI mm hmm,
Isaiah Mary okay here that is I do okay, I've
met that person and it was he was very nice
and he put a nice long message out so that
I got to change my life and good for him.

Speaker 4 (02:07:57):
Yeah, just I don't care what you drink. Just don't
drive sometimes when yeah you haven't. I don't know that
he has an issue. I don't know him personally. Or
sometimes you got to get your cage ro out.

Speaker 2 (02:08:05):
Yeah. Yeah, And hopefully it was a wake up a
wake up call. Hopefully didn't anybody, which it sounds like
it did not. So it's good. All right, quick headline check.
Super Bowl in forty nine we got so it's not
fifty nine. We're at sixty next year sixty super Bowl sixty,
Santa Clara, California. I got news for you. All these
stations bragg about going to Radio Row, they ain't going
next year. First of all, the guest lists are horrendous

(02:08:28):
as usual. Secondly, it's going to cost you five times
the amount of money to go. So these advertisers that
you hoodwinkedon is spending money to send all the radio
host to go parties.

Speaker 4 (02:08:37):
They're not spending it.

Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
I want to go. It's a bunch of radio blowhards
just talking about my shoulder day. What do you have
in your shoulderday? Oh, how did you got any work? No,
we stayed true of the corps. We had great guests
on it. We didn't spend a time going there. Well,
Gordy did, but I think I don't know if he
paid it or not. But he's hanging out with his broskies.
I think, yeah, he did great. He got more asked

(02:09:00):
than any other radio show in the marketplace. And he
was by himself too. He was staying at MEMA's house. Me,
Mom just made that up.

Speaker 4 (02:09:07):
It sounds like something you'd say in the Louisiana.

Speaker 2 (02:09:11):
Uh No, I think they call their grandparents by their
first letter of their first name, like Grandma Paul ge Gladys. Well, really, I.

Speaker 4 (02:09:23):
Don't think they say what up?

Speaker 2 (02:09:25):
What It's New Orleans say what up? Baby up? Baby
g Yeah, let me hold twenty see. Yeah, where are
we going with this? I don't Oh, we just said
great guests, Gordy. Shout out to Gordy for getting.

Speaker 4 (02:09:38):
Some Chris Cordy, you had some great guests unlocked on
SEC this week as well. Did he really like who?

Speaker 2 (02:09:43):
You think?

Speaker 5 (02:09:43):
So?

Speaker 2 (02:09:43):
He probably had a bunch of a lineman we never
heard of before. That's okay, So I'm sure it's great stuff.
And Gordion is going to be down in Florida for
pictures and ketchers reporting Thursday and Friday, so he'll check
in with us wonderful from West Palm Beach. He'll kind
of advance our trip which he'll be coming up a
week from tomorrow. Courtesy if Carbo Brewing and the Crawford
Buck seven one three two one two five seven ninety

(02:10:06):
seven one three two one two five seven nine eighty
Rockets win last night, ending their six game losing streak.
Thank god. It was a must win necessary because let
me tell you, let me tell you the reason why
it was a Muss way here we go. You would
have had, amongst your seven losses in a row, h
two to Brooklyn and one to Toronto. You don't think
that they would have been throwing hands in that Rocket

(02:10:26):
locker room they lost that game. I think they would
have been fine, But I would say that if we
were gonna go to a Muss win card, it would
have been the one.

Speaker 4 (02:10:33):
From against Brooklyn. They lost it choked hard.

Speaker 2 (02:10:37):
It's terrible. Thanks for bringing it up. Sorry, Just okay.
Get the All Star break here. They got two days
off for the first time in like three weeks.

Speaker 4 (02:10:47):
I know, I get to hang with you.

Speaker 2 (02:10:49):
I'm here all week. I know, Donne, did they immediately
get put on a back to back right out of
the All Star break? No rest for the weary as
they say, Well, I I really do believe the NBA
has got to fix the schedule a little bit. I
think the long break in between. Now they do play
two games after the tournament, playing the n season tournament,
they're not on the schedule, but they played two games

(02:11:11):
in like seven days.

Speaker 4 (02:11:12):
That gives them a little bit of an early break.

Speaker 2 (02:11:14):
But man, it feels like to me the NBA has
given us way more double back to backs in years past.
Rockets currently in the four seed in the West, half
game ahead of the Lakers, three games ahead of the
t Wolves, one game back of the Nuggets, and unfortunately
Memphis has won a lot of games. You want that
three spot, You're gonna want that three spot. I don't

(02:11:36):
want the thunder in the second and a potential second
round series. We're getting way ahead of ourselves, because we
were talking about we do get ahead of ourselves. Oklahoma City,
I don't want to say it would be a choke job,
but they don't win the West, but they beat everybody.
They and they only beat everybody they beat him on
the road, They beat him at home, they beat up people,

(02:11:59):
they went by twenty thirty points. Did Chet Holmgren come
back yet?

Speaker 4 (02:12:02):
Yes he did.

Speaker 2 (02:12:03):
Okay, but he's not playing every night. I know he's
played at least once. Okayrizzi box score, I don't see
him on here. Yeah, okay. All you gonna do is
So if they would play, if they're the three seed,
let's say it gets them, they would be the six
would be Minnesota. They could beat.

Speaker 4 (02:12:23):
Minnesota in a seven game series.

Speaker 2 (02:12:25):
I do believe. Yeah, I could beat the Grizz in
a seven game series. Have to kick Anthony Edwards in
private party area. Well, yeah, they can beat Minnesota. It'd
be a tough series, a lot of travel and Grizz.
They could beat Memphis. That'd be a tough series. Yeah,
they could be in the Western Finals. Are you saying
there's a chance. I'm telling you there's a chance.

Speaker 6 (02:12:44):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (02:12:45):
And maybe the thunder I don't know. All of them
decided to walk the earth and become monks, and Isa
sayah Hartenstein wants a foul five people in five minutes
to play. Well, he's gonna do that no matter what.
Shake Gildas Alexander doesn't go to the free throw on
line twenty three times a game. He's probably gonna do
that and all the various Jalen Williams is, we're very good.

Speaker 4 (02:13:04):
What let me man real quick for I got the phones?

Speaker 2 (02:13:06):
What happened? When did we? When did Today's Moms in debt?
Not Today's the Moms twenty two years ago? Everybody is
named Janlen Jen. There's a million Jalens in the NBA.
I mean, I don't call an NBA game with either
a Kentucky player or not on the roster, or a
Jalen on the floor minimum Jalen.

Speaker 4 (02:13:24):
And it's j e l e N j E j
A l i N. There's a j A y l
e N. There's a j A y l i N.

Speaker 2 (02:13:33):
I'm trying to think who twenty years ago was the
most popular Jalen. Oh, the first person with a prominent
name Jalen says Google, Jalen Rose j l e en HM.
Jalen Rose's mother made that name up. That's what Google says.

(02:13:54):
And now it's the most popular name in the NBA. Oh,
that comes as zero surprise to me. Wow, And it's
for a playbout play guy. It's a pain in the ass.
It's a combination of James and Leonard jay Lynn.

Speaker 4 (02:14:11):
There was a guy for the Raptors yesterday named Jacoby Walter.

Speaker 2 (02:14:16):
Mm hmmm in a in a tribute to Michael Jordan
Kobe Bryant, Oh hmm. I mean, look, I named my
kids after various things. Cameron's after Cameron, indoor stadium at Duke, Yes,
Peyton's after Peyton Manning, and Carly's just always like the
name Carly Simon. I mean it would wouldn't be wouldn't

(02:14:38):
be the worst thing, But the way people spell Carly's
name is all over the place, that's true. And I
I like, I put a Facebook post, you know, Carly
did disc and people will comment about it, and they'll
still spell their name wrong even though it happens. It'd
be like me congratulating uh Ryan Presley's family and getting

(02:15:02):
is the Pressley name wrong?

Speaker 7 (02:15:03):
Now?

Speaker 2 (02:15:03):
Why would some idiot do that? Yeah, I mean, dang,
mistakes can happen, sports are they just can need you
all one eleven on seven on he needs you a
good afternoon.

Speaker 12 (02:15:13):
Good afternoon, guys. Well, I guess I'm a cheap bastard.
That's what you called me. Matt, because I cut the
cord about five years ago and I haven't looked back.
I bumped my high speed internet up, so I pay
about one hundred bucks for that. But literally I can
watch everything like any network, any channel, any pay per view,

(02:15:36):
any sporting event, everything. They are apps for everything that
you could want to watch on a fire TV like literally,
there's no there's no bound to what you could watch.

Speaker 2 (02:15:50):
Yeah, there's people who do that too, who have the
services and that I'm not going to mention some of
those are unreliable though. Uh sometimes you got to switch
the stream like five times it's overloaded and all that.

Speaker 4 (02:16:01):
Well, can I tell you something needel, I don't know.
About twenty.

Speaker 2 (02:16:05):
Twenty years ago, I had a friend of mine who
would send me these cards and I would take the
original card out of my direct TV box and put
this card in and Nigel, I got every channel, and
I mean every channel. For instance, I got all the
ESPN we understand, Matt. I got all of the watching

(02:16:27):
a lot of box. I got all the different local
TV stations, like I got CBS Nashville, CBS Alberty, New York.
I mean I got like literally two thousand channels, which
did include a wide variety of risk a stuff that
you don't want your kids watching. That's why they call
you spice Thomas. So then I was thinking to myself, Needel,
this is the greatest card ever. And then the card

(02:16:48):
they kept zapping it. I finally got it, like after
the third time, I said, I'm done with the zapp.

Speaker 12 (02:16:53):
Well, me and you are the same age, Matt. So
you remember they used to sell the bootleg cable boxes
when it was Warner Cable too, where you could get
all the channels. You'd find a guy and he'd sell
you a box for a hundred bucks and you'd be
good for about six months to see all the channels.

Speaker 2 (02:17:09):
Yeah, you know what I want. There's not enough sinister
cable and direct TV operators anymore. What happened to that
group of guys? What happened to those folks? I think
with technology it is easier to keep tabs on. Who
has one? That's too bad?

Speaker 4 (02:17:20):
Yeah, thank you Nigel for the go ahead.

Speaker 12 (02:17:22):
And I have one more thing. I have a great
idea for believe it or not, how about ross?

Speaker 2 (02:17:29):
How about.

Speaker 12 (02:17:32):
Putting down the first person?

Speaker 9 (02:17:34):
Because you guys were talking.

Speaker 12 (02:17:35):
About salaries earlier, so all four major sports. The first
person that made had a million dollar contract, fifty million,
one hundred million.

Speaker 4 (02:17:50):
All right, Angel, thank you very much.

Speaker 2 (02:17:52):
We already have one. Yeah, we have, thank you though,
and we have thanks thank you newser for the phone
call we have. Today's got a crogulable one and something
we talked about earlier on the show to day. So
if you listen, you're gonna have already a puncher's chance
on one of these fantastic prizes, which include tickets to
see Brooks and done what yeh know on the Neon
Moon with you know, you can also go with what

(02:18:12):
my Maria, I only know Boots Scoot and boogie and
new Neon Moon? Is that that, my Maria? It's a rema,
It's a not reboot. It's a cover of another song. Okay,
and then it better frankly than the original person. Yeah, Icy,
I don't all right, one more thing, uh, you know
we're talking about come back one fourteen. It's a Matt
Thomas Show Ross seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (02:18:37):
Matt Thomas, Ross Verel. It's the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross Hi Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:18:52):
All right, I don't want to bit steal from the
morning show, but they had an interesting topic today. I
don't think it's worthy of bringing up here about the
Super Bowl?

Speaker 4 (02:18:59):
Did we learn learned?

Speaker 2 (02:19:00):
Simply from a Texans perspective, all that's needed for the
Texans is to go improve the offensive line?

Speaker 4 (02:19:07):
Is Can we demb it down just like that? Or
do we learn other things about yesterday?

Speaker 2 (02:19:12):
Offensive line? Defensive line win in the trenches? Matt to cliche.
Oftentimes things are cliches because they're true. Let me give
you some let me give you some other things. Do
you can you can refute them if you're like, okay,
veteran coaching staff, I think absolutely necessary. Vic Fangio has
been around a long long time.

Speaker 4 (02:19:32):
See, I think this is what I talked about when
Demiico Rians was hired.

Speaker 2 (02:19:37):
This is the formula. Both teams in the Super Bowl
are showing what you need. You need the offensive mind,
and then you need some defensive coordinator who's been fired
a couple of times and he's just gonna stay there.
Vic Fango is not going to get a head coaching
one chance and one chance. Despagnolo has been mentioned, but
I mean he's not. He's not getting the job from
anywhere else. They're really great defensive coordinator, like Nick Sirianni

(02:20:00):
never had to worry about the defense. This is an
offensive exactly. This is an offensively driven league. So unfortunately
I love to meet go Ryans. I'm not saying I don't.
I think he's a great coach, But you're always going
to be the offensive coordinator because of this is an
offensive drive driven league. Is always going to be a
turnstile one way or the other, hired away or fired,
hired away or fired. And I think that's part of

(02:20:23):
what people were able to do as yesterday was you
looked on the other side of the sidelines of the
two teams, not in all four positions, but of the coordinators.
And again Andy Reid runs the offense of the Chiefs,
so we don't count that. And Nick serrian I think
is heavily involved in the offense correct for the Giant,
for the yag. Yes, you want to be able to

(02:20:44):
outsmart your other coordinator. And you've got another first time
play caller coming here to Houston. Now, everybody at some
point's got to be the first time of something, So
you got to you gotta get your shot somewhere to
be the first time of something. So maybe Houston has
become that breeding ground that maybe Demico just likes the young,

(02:21:06):
innovative plucking guys off other staffs and giving them an
opportunity to do it. Bobby Slowe got that first opportunity,
worked beautifully one year, get work the next.

Speaker 4 (02:21:16):
Does the new oak oc at the Texans become this?

Speaker 2 (02:21:20):
Hey, you know I had the Shehakels around me because
Sean McVay was calling things in Los Angeles. Now this
is my own, my own ship. I get to run
the call the plays. If you thought we were good
in Los Angeles, guess how good we're going to be
even with the younger and more able quarterback in c
J stround. Yeah, maybe the flip side of it would
have been maybe I'm trying to think of who's the
like the veteran offensive play callers who have maybe been

(02:21:41):
fired but still highly regarded. Chip Kelly.

Speaker 4 (02:21:44):
I guess getting highed with the Raiders ship Kelly is
a great example.

Speaker 2 (02:21:47):
But that was a bunch of money. He got six million,
I think they said per year, which three million per
year was the highest bag cash swift and they said
you can't. We're gonna give you as much money as
what Yeah, so you're.

Speaker 4 (02:21:56):
Going to be this much.

Speaker 2 (02:21:57):
And there's no income state income text and I got
on in Vegas and there's no stadium contacts in Nevada.
Let's do it. Yeah, Las Vegas should be a better
football team. They've got everything in the world. They've got site,
they've got stadium, they've got plenty of money. And O'Connell
or Gardner Minshew may quarterback in a quarterback bad quarterback

(02:22:21):
back down, that's true. Can he call the game and
be playing and be part of the owner of the
team much we do all three doing the call of
the writers versus I don't know all the chiefs. It's
uh Tom Brady and uh Kevin Burkhard And on one
play he's got one headset on and then the next
play he takes that on his headset off, but it's

(02:22:41):
another one on. He calls the game from his headset. Yeah,
he's like texting in between plays from from.

Speaker 3 (02:22:47):
Like the the.

Speaker 2 (02:22:50):
Head No, he's got headset. He's got one here on
one of the Raiders sideline and one in the bruce. Yes,
those people, I mean they're probably people are worried about that.
I can't. I'll go ahead tell you this is easy.
This there's no way that Tom Brady's ever calling a
Raiders game, not that the Raiders may be the number
one game of the week.

Speaker 4 (02:23:06):
Yeah, they can't put him on it. He's should be
too biased.

Speaker 2 (02:23:10):
Yeah, I'm sure it hasn't even discussed because first of all,
most of the Raider games are on CBS. Not all,
but most of them are. And I can't imagine they
would allow him to be anywhere near the booth. They
got Herbstreet calling Ohio State games. He just went to
college there, a little different. You don't own Ohio State. Yeah, okay,

(02:23:30):
so Aikman calling actually punished Aikman by making him call
Cowboys games. Yeah, you're not gonna do five Cowboy games
in a year. The only benefit is under the travel.
I think he lives in Dallas. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:23:43):
So, but now he's on ABC, so he's getting to
do different games every week.

Speaker 2 (02:23:48):
When you got the Fox package, you're putting that, you're
putting the number one team on always on the Cowboy game.

Speaker 4 (02:23:54):
Yeah, it's interesting. I don't know, we'll see. Okay, So
we learned that.

Speaker 2 (02:23:58):
I learned that I want experience at the cordinator spot,
and right now the Texans don't have that. CORRECTO. I
learned that the Texans need a better off. That the
Philadelphia offensive line allowed Jalen Hurts to play one of
his best games of his career. The Texans don't have that. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:24:16):
How often was he just sitting back there with all
the time in the world a bunch?

Speaker 2 (02:24:20):
Yeah? And how often did Pat Mahomes have to run
for his life because his offensive line threw largely injuries
one because they didn't address it.

Speaker 4 (02:24:28):
They just had been banged up. We're just an have
enough depth.

Speaker 2 (02:24:33):
We are owed a pretty fast decision on Stefan Dick's
coming up here pretty quick explain. I think there is
some sort of Saturday ramifications on dead space and that
kind of thing. So we're not gonna be waiting four
months figure out whether I was Stefan Dicks. We are
no or not? Is there such a thing?

Speaker 4 (02:24:53):
Absolutely, there's there's a capologists for the NFL. Are they
nice people?

Speaker 5 (02:24:59):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (02:24:59):
Are you gonna say the nerds? No, I'm not asking
you always talk about numbers nerds. I'm not sure some
numbers nerds have sex? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:25:08):
Do No?

Speaker 2 (02:25:10):
Many of them have children and families. Matt, that's right,
that's right, but most probably aren't. Most probably don't have
any friend. Jef Luna was a number numbers nerd. He
has a lovely family, he does, but he isn't ad
Ministry James Click. I have no idea. I think he
had a wife and kids. M he's a numbers nerds.
That's Jim Crane. Dan it's got a wife, but Dana's
not really numbers.

Speaker 5 (02:25:31):
No.

Speaker 4 (02:25:31):
You know we've done we've both.

Speaker 2 (02:25:33):
He's a mix. We've gone two hours, three hours and
twenty seven minutes and we've not done it.

Speaker 5 (02:25:37):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (02:25:39):
Hmmragmant update? Is there one?

Speaker 1 (02:25:43):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:25:45):
Then why are we gonna do one?

Speaker 10 (02:25:46):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (02:25:46):
I bet I can find one. We've been talking about
this trash for four months. Will he just sign somewhere please?

Speaker 1 (02:25:51):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (02:25:52):
I'm gonna calm the internet streets, okay, and I'm gonna
get your fresh fragmant update seven. By the way, Uh,
he doesn't even know it's spice? Was once a cooking
is a cooking channel? No, spice is not a cooking channel?
Has it eve been around? I think he was joking?
I am I do not know.

Speaker 4 (02:26:08):
Oh yeah you do.

Speaker 1 (02:26:09):
No, I don't.

Speaker 4 (02:26:10):
Hey, let's look on this TV guide at work here.
Oh you want to do that, let's go.

Speaker 2 (02:26:14):
I'm gonna go. Spice.

Speaker 4 (02:26:15):
I'm gonna google it. Spice TV channel.

Speaker 2 (02:26:19):
That's already in your history. Why is that, Matt, stop it.

Speaker 4 (02:26:21):
It's not.

Speaker 2 (02:26:23):
Will be now Spice TV is Oh my god, no,
it's been no, no, no, no, it's uh no, it
ended in it launched in nineteen ninety four. Spice channel
on YouTube. Different kind of Spice. No, not that Spice. No,

(02:26:47):
there's no Spice right now. Oh my god, Spice channel's gone.
Playboy channels still around.

Speaker 4 (02:26:53):
I think didn't they relaunch the magazine? I think I
saw that on the Twitter verse.

Speaker 2 (02:26:57):
I did not see that. Would you buy it for
the articles? Yeah, for the good journalists of good interviews. Yeah,
I'm sure they're great.

Speaker 4 (02:27:04):
One twenty eight A bringing up date of some sort.

Speaker 1 (02:27:09):
Next on seven nine Lunchtimers.

Speaker 8 (02:27:12):
Lunchtimers, it's a Matt Thomas show with Ross on Sports Talk.

Speaker 1 (02:27:17):
Seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:27:20):
We will be uh having our first meeting of the
Jake Myers Fan Club down into West Palm Beach another
ten days or so, actually, will we leave our first
day of show, will be there a week from tomorrow,
be there for three or full days.

Speaker 3 (02:27:33):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (02:27:34):
Wonderful interviews, analysis, insights and probably maybe one of these,
maybe one of these, I don't know, we'll find out.
Oh Man Ross's show.

Speaker 4 (02:28:00):
The Bit's never going away much disagree of something ever.

Speaker 2 (02:28:05):
Bob Nightingale says that a Troy Tigers, the Boston Red Sox,
and the Astros have all made offers of at least
four years to Bregman, but no one has been willing
to meet his asking price. Nightg goes on to say
the Cubs have been unwilling to go over three years,
three years, three years.

Speaker 4 (02:28:26):
That's not going to cut it for Alex Bregman.

Speaker 2 (02:28:29):
Cubs also addressing the Alex Bregman question in their first
news conference of the spring Sunday, Jed Hoyer, Cubs president
of baseball Operations, asked about adding Alex Reregman, said unclear.
I think you always look for an opportunity, But right now,
we're going to focus on the guys we have in camp.
That's the plan for another thirty minutes. According to this

(02:28:52):
Bob Nightingale article sent to us by Greg and Htown
shout out Greg.

Speaker 4 (02:28:56):
Shout out Greg. No matter how many times this is
brought up indirectly directly, they didn't really offer any clues
thirty Basically, for thirty minutes, they got Pepper with bregmant questions,
So let's play a.

Speaker 2 (02:29:07):
Little game here. Who's breaking this story first? Chandler, let
me give you the Let me give you the candidates.
If it's not Astro's or lated, it will not be
Brian McTaggart. I can't imagine Brian McTaggart, who works for
astros dot com and MLB dot com is gonna get
a story involved another team. You would think that that

(02:29:27):
the team's reporter would get it. So we're gonna take
him off the list. Chandler, Chandler with Now he's gonna
be Chandler with Ken Rosenthal, Ken Rosenthal, that's a good one.
I'm gonna go We're gonna put Chandler by himself, Okay Rosenthal.

Speaker 4 (02:29:46):
Passing m U Nightingale or the field? What you going with?
Chandler slash and some iteration of I'm gonna go Rosenthal
reporting with Chandler room final answer. That would be the

(02:30:09):
heavy favorite.

Speaker 2 (02:30:10):
I think you're right. But if but if we separate them,
you're saying neither one is a favorite if we separate them. Hmm,
what if? What if not?

Speaker 4 (02:30:17):
Let me tell you something, This is a.

Speaker 2 (02:30:19):
Bob nine gels is but that why are those guys
have the tag team that I can get to start
by myself? But y'all what y'all doing?

Speaker 4 (02:30:24):
Tag team? And I'll have a tag team partner?

Speaker 2 (02:30:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:30:27):
Passing is like, I don't have a partner. What does
the athletic do that to?

Speaker 2 (02:30:31):
Also? I mean the chandler does great report, he does
break stuff all really good. But Ken Rosenthal is the bigger.

Speaker 4 (02:30:37):
Name and Channel will be the first one admit that.

Speaker 2 (02:30:42):
So I don't know how that works. Maybe my paper
channer is like, man, I get this with that Rosenthal
by Kenny say shut your bumb mess up. Can he'll
be the one on Fox on the weekends doing the games.
I don't know if he has aspirations to do that.
I'm sure he's got aspirations to be I could see
Channel being a national Baseball guy allultimately put around the
thirty MLB clubs. His true calling is writing. He's a

(02:31:04):
he's a great writer.

Speaker 4 (02:31:05):
I love the athletic wonderful pros from the pen of
Chandler Roane.

Speaker 2 (02:31:12):
Now the computer, nobody's writing stuff anymore, I know, but
you still say that's what you say?

Speaker 6 (02:31:16):
Man?

Speaker 1 (02:31:16):
You do?

Speaker 2 (02:31:16):
Who says that? Everyone? Okay, yeah, that's that may be
more of an interesting battle than where actually Bregmant goes.

Speaker 4 (02:31:23):
So we've narrowed it down.

Speaker 2 (02:31:25):
Cubs, Red Sox, Tigers, Tigers, Astros Field Yes, in this report,
also from Bob Nightingale. Tiger's Red Sox Astros all made
offers of at least four years to Bregman, but no
one is willing to meet his ass I just about man, Sorry,

(02:31:47):
thank you very much. That's fine. Okay, so let's let's
go back. Let's play.

Speaker 4 (02:31:55):
Let's jump into Alex Bregman's body for a second. Okay, okay,
I got six six sitting here in Houston. I got
but that it's apparently been upped. Okay, I'll say you.

Speaker 2 (02:32:04):
Let's get it. Got a bump to one sixt deal
for just blank and giggles. He's doing a short term deal.
The more it goes on. Sorry, go ahead, you got
the Cubs are on offer in three mm hmmm, Ford,
everybody else Nobody says five. Astros confirmed six. Nobody is
saying seven. What happened to the Blue Jays? Apparently they're done.

(02:32:30):
We got our team, we already took. We gotta we
gotta take sure, make sure of lack of rail states
of this long term. He's a free agent after the
shear correct? Yes, shut.

Speaker 4 (02:32:42):
Has anybody been falling their sword on a long term
on this?

Speaker 6 (02:32:47):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:32:47):
What do you mean? Like, is anybody just said, oh,
this is gonna be a long term deal. This is
Scott Boris telling Alex the weight will be worth it.
You will get the long term deal.

Speaker 4 (02:32:56):
That you have been asking.

Speaker 2 (02:32:57):
I mean, the the more it drags on, the more
it's likely that this is just going to be a
short term opt out in that type situation. And is
this as example. I'm not saying that Breggs didn't do this,
but is this an example now that we have to
start determining and telling these baseball athletes and all these
sports athletes, let's not rely on the agent much more anymore.
Let's if you hear something you like, take it. Don't

(02:33:22):
stretch this bad boy out, because unless Bregman is telling Scott,
I deserve this, I need this and Bors is like,
I can't get this to you. Wouldn't bragman that point
to say, all right, if that's the best you think
the streets are offering, I got to take one of

(02:33:42):
these deals. I can't figure out any of this. I'm
not to get Breggs drunk. At some point, We're going
to just have a real heart. I don't mean to
get him alcohol, but I mean it's it'll it'll open
up his truth, tore them a little bit. And people
when they drink, they tell the truth, do they not?
Sometimes they lie though I'm a truther. Okay, you give
your truth to give me a couple of pops. I'll

(02:34:03):
tell you anything you want. I will spill my guts.
All right, let's with a couple of beverages. Though, all right,
West Palm, what do you want to know? I tell
you everything anyway that's true. We'll take Channer out. I'll
tell some stuff that's yeah, we will, so we'll get
the real get him some pops. We'll get him some pops.
But I mean, I don't, I don't. I don't necessarily
understand because it's so late in the game now that

(02:34:27):
Scott's gonna be like, man, I don't want to take
you into spring training. That's it's short term. Opt out
is going to that's the favorite right now, short term
with opt outs. So okay, let's say that's what he's
going to go for ultimately. Then you then go to
is can somebody he's he's getting offered twenty six a year?

Speaker 5 (02:34:47):
Here?

Speaker 2 (02:34:47):
Does he take a two years sixty million dollars is
two years sixty million dollars out there floating among.

Speaker 4 (02:34:52):
The baseball universe, We don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:34:54):
I would say yes, I think so for short term
deal thirty Yeah, I could see it still getting very
much prime. Fragman, I would do a two year, sixty
million dollars deal in Houston tomorrow. I would too. It's
not my money, but I'm not in the luxury okay,
but even if I'm in the business, I would do it. Yeah,
you should. He's a really good player, really good player,

(02:35:15):
and he will be worth that contract. Paying him thirty
million dollars in five or six years may not be
worth it. Most of those long term deals don't pan out.
That's the reason why the Astros were pretty much firm
at sixty one fifty six. Maybe he's just stuck on it.
I want to make more money per year. My AAV
should be higher than it was in my previous contract.

(02:35:37):
I don't know. Let's get him drunk. Maybe he doesn't
drink anymore. Maybe give some gummies okay, or maybe he's
give him a big fat steak and just some make potato,
some side salad and a nice dessert. Is that what
get you singing like a canary? I think food and
drink does for sure. Yeah, okay, well red wine, how
about this? We go to the casino and he gives me,

(02:35:58):
and I give him two hundreds in chips, say enjoy yourself.

Speaker 4 (02:36:01):
Let's talk.

Speaker 2 (02:36:02):
He's gonna sneeze on that two hundred bucks. Alex Bregman, Man,
that's probably three bats one bet, you know, two black chips,
no blackout.

Speaker 5 (02:36:14):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:36:15):
I did play once with an NBA player that was
betting six hundred and seven hundred dollars a hand, so
that would have done me very long.

Speaker 4 (02:36:21):
But this guy, this guy was was a fringe nball.
He's not a fringe. He was just a mid NBA player.

Speaker 2 (02:36:26):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (02:36:28):
I was like, are you sure you.

Speaker 2 (02:36:28):
Can afford all this? He goes, yeah, by the way,
dinner on me. I said, thank you very much. We
get over there, have dinner, has a couple of ladies
with us. He's like, I count time to you. I
got back to the table. So it was me, two
other people and these two strange women having dinner together.
That's wonderful. That's one for the for the memoir. And
they uh and they uh.

Speaker 4 (02:36:47):
We couldn't eat all the food they brought out.

Speaker 2 (02:36:49):
It was like crab legs, shrimp, steak, lobster, dessert side dishes.

Speaker 4 (02:36:54):
And the two women said, hey, can we live here
in this town?

Speaker 2 (02:36:57):
Can we take it to go? Can we have take
it to go? Great? And they took four doggy backs
back with them. That's aweso, this prime stuff to them.
I was a little jealous. I was like, man, if
I live in this town, I would want to do that.
Not since has going to a high end steakhouse and
taking four doggy backs back. That's okay, good stuff there,
Matthew's we'll start then the memoir. Yeah, yeah, that's that.

(02:37:20):
The person will not be named in the memoir. Oh
I have said in the memoir. Absolutely, okay, it seems fair.
Never mind, all right, let's said WEX, but never mind, No,
WEX is not calling, uh, let's play Believe or not?
You're ready? Yes, the category today is highly googleable. It's

Believe it or Not. Let's go to line three. Of course,
my computer's not work there it is. Let's say hi
to Wes, my buddy, Wes. Wes, what's a good word today?
Hey man?

Speaker 14 (02:39:07):
I Believe it or not?

Speaker 2 (02:39:08):
Signed as have a cold question for you.

Speaker 10 (02:39:10):
If a player wants to take a lesser deal, does
the union found upon that because it weakens a position
with the owners.

Speaker 2 (02:39:18):
I mean, I'm sure they can front about it, but
they can't force a player to take a deal that
is less advantageous to the union. I mean, they can
do what they want. I mean, if put it this way,
do you think Bregnan is well, what's your example, one
year deal is compared to a six. No, they're not
gonna saying about it because they're going to say that West,
They're going to say that that Bregman's going to bet

(02:39:38):
on himself another year in twenty twenty five and get
more money in future years.

Speaker 10 (02:39:43):
I was just curious about the whole AAV thing. I mean,
his stance of steadily decline. So why is a A
be such a big deal to him instead of maybe
like long term security or short term and a chance
to bet on himself.

Speaker 4 (02:39:56):
I think the un Now that's that Wes.

Speaker 2 (02:39:59):
That sounds like to me.

Speaker 4 (02:39:59):
The it's an individual issue.

Speaker 5 (02:40:01):
Like I am.

Speaker 4 (02:40:01):
I was talking about this last week.

Speaker 2 (02:40:03):
I am more of a person in my negotiats in
my life that would take less money for longer years
guarantee than taking a shorter tearm deal with more money.

Speaker 4 (02:40:11):
That's just how I roll, absolutely, So I don't know
how you roll, but that's how I roll. I would
I mean, I'm go.

Speaker 10 (02:40:17):
Ahead, I want I would take the security over the
unknown of what could happen in another year or two
for my body or my performance.

Speaker 4 (02:40:24):
Yeah exactly. Well, that's good to hear from your friend.

Speaker 2 (02:40:26):
Take care of yourself, go dynamo, all right, ummm yeah,
that's that's no. The union can't step out on this,
and the players don't need the union to step on him.

Speaker 6 (02:40:36):
There.

Speaker 2 (02:40:37):
He's not being unfairly. He's not being held. You know,
there's not a low number of three being thrown at him,
six for one fifty six for a guy would be
making more than Matt Chapman, who just signed a comparable
uh situation in San Francisco is not hurting the system.
But well, does the union want as much money as

(02:40:59):
muncha av if? Of course they do, because it it
ups everybody up at that position. But no, I don't.
I don't think the union's going if you want to
bet on yourself for another short term deal to try
to go get some more money in a couple of
years to make more amy, I'm okay with that. H
