Yeah, lunchtimers, this is The Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Ten O two an h Town. Good morning, everyone, and
welcome to a Monday edition of The Matt Thomas Show
and ross Nesi Sports Talk sevenint.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Eight.

Speaker 4 (00:15):
Tonzol is an eligible lineman on the left side of
the offensive line.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Her Smith goes in motion.

Speaker 4 (00:22):
Stroud throws to his left, passes complete touchdown Nico Collins.
Nico Collins with a seventh touchdown reception. A little shoving
at the end of that play. That is a great
honor to be put in the same category. Here's Pierce
and Pears is gonna break free.

Speaker 5 (00:41):
He's gonna go all the way with one man to beat.
Mike Brown is trawling of in Pears inside the ted
into the eard.

Speaker 6 (00:48):
Zone ninety two yards for Davy and Pearce and the
Texans are billing good.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
River Mills to the middle, passed to a plea to
Woods and he's got a first down up to the
forty six yard line. Mike Brown in on the tackle, second.

Speaker 7 (01:10):
In goal.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Mills trying to run.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
Mills inside the five turn the end zone and he's upbounded.
He lost the football and it looks like they fell
off top of.

Speaker 8 (01:20):
It in the end zone.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
But they're gonna say that Mills was down thirty six
thirty six yards.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
To get to eleven hundred yards, which we'll put another
insidive in for him.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
All over funding the football, it's picked up by partner
who's having a day. He's running inside the ten. Holy guys,
inside the five. Hitto the zoone touchstone, Texans celerating another
a m.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
See South title barred. It feels good. Let's go Texas,
Let's go Taxans ed. How do we celeu rate? We'll
do it at three point thirty on Saturday. There's customary time.

(02:11):
They should just say they'll be on at Texans time.
You just call it Texans time. What's funny because I
had not thought of it in that respect until we
thought about it from the astro? What do the Astros
do Tuesday at one o'clock Astros time? Wenesday and twelve
twenty Astros time? Yeah, and then Rockets playoff time is
eight forty five at home games. Yeah, it's called prime time, Matt,

(02:34):
It's it's called pastor beds by twenty to the Warriors.

Speaker 9 (02:39):
Oh, baby Davis Mills, money Mills, Damian Pierce, the goat
you know what I have.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
I try to stay awake on Sundays between like noon
and ten pm because that's just the prime football spot.
I took a nap in that second quarter and it
felt good. That's great. The Sunday nap on a rainy,
kind of drizzly day or the temperature dropping not a
bad idea. I'm usually a three pm napper on Sundays. Yeah,
right after all the twelve o'clock games, the dust settles. Yeah,

(03:13):
but I went early. I went from my early nap
at twelve thirty and I it was sixteen six and
it was nineteen. I held it. I don't even know.
It didn't really matter. Well, usually the good game doesn't
start till three twenty five, so around three to three
forty five is a good nap spot. Yeah, that's not bad.
But yeah, it was the earliest I've taken a Sunday
nap in a long time on a football Sunday because
it meant nothing. I actually spent more time looking at

(03:36):
the red zone and watching between Tampa Bay when they
were playing was it New Orleans at home? And then
you had Carolina at Atlanta. That to me was way
more intriguing and that's what it was supposed to be.
But for the Texans it was beating up on Mason
Rudolph Well. I was by the way, Thomas Forts Enterprises
has an announcement to make. I told no, I convinced

(03:58):
you to stay the course. Bryce Young says stay the course.
Sam Darnold says stay the Baker Mayfield says stay the course.
You're all My announcement is oh, okay, Thomas Sports Enterprises
in not a unanimous vote among our boarder directors, really
in our shareholders, okay, remain somewhat bullish in the place.

Speaker 7 (04:20):
All right.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
I thought you were going to say you were your
cutting bait. No, I thought you were announcing the release
Stay the course Matt again. Really, you know the Titans
need to stay the course too. Levis is looking great. Yeah,
let's go Titans.

Speaker 10 (04:33):
Key.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I think Will Levis is the guy. He just needs
more time, better weapons around him. What does it go to?
He needs Uh, he needs more stable coaching, he needs
better pieces around him, better offensive line, more time to
learn running back, healthy running game. All that's great, But
I mean, seriously, if I would have told you twelve
months ago today that Bryce Young was going to have
a bounce back second season. You'd have been like, no,

(04:56):
he looks like a Deern headline. Oh, you could have
told me that eight weeks or ten weeks ago whatever.
He had benched for Andy Dalton. But Andy, it's even
more profound is Sam Donald. Sam Donald is a top
five and BFP candidate. Maybe not top maybe maybe maybe
he's going he basically is gonna be pay like a
top five quarterback. Why do they do that or not? Now,

(05:17):
yesterday doesn't even really count. He's not getting a first
place vote, but he's in the conversation. I mean, if
the does the NFL have a comeback player of your awards?
If that is they do, And I thought, okay, so
there's actually a story about this. The last couple of weeks,
I thought they changed the criteria to where you have
to be coming off an injury or something like that,

(05:38):
which Sam Donald, you can't suck the previous year and
win the award the following year. But then the NFL
made an announcement that they're not going to invalidate votes
for Sam Donald even though they don't he doesn't fit
the criteria. It's very it's very confusing. I got to
look more well, all I can tell you is he's
really good. The folks in Minnesota love him. In Minnesota,
you're you know, you were talking about how you should seed.

(05:59):
They go for potentially having the number what one or
two seed in the NFC playoffs to having to go
on the road to play their first playoff game. And
that's exactly what's going to happen because the Lions. And
again I didn't watch much of it because of the
fact that we were calling Rockets Lakers last night, but yeah,
I mean they they wanted their things. Speaking of that,
the Rockets did beat the Los Angeles Likers yesterday did

(06:21):
and then Lebron T shirt wearers were out in full
force yesterday. They were and it wasn't you know how
you say, well, maybe they were just Liker fans. No,
they were Miami Heat Lebron James jerseys in the building.
Last night. They were Cleveland Cavaliers, my Lebron James jerseys
in there. I think Lebron is one of the early
representatives of where now there's been somewhat of a changing

(06:43):
where people root for players over teams. And I've raised
one of them, and I think a lot of that
started well with First of all, free agency didn't start
in most sports so like the late eighties or early nineties,
so there wasn't a lot of time for people to change.
But now with Lebron being as great as he was
and then the decision and going to the Heat and
then going back to Cleveland, I think he's absolutely one
of the standard bearers for people who are just fans

(07:05):
of a player. Yeah, no question, And you know what,
it's probably the smart thing to do because teams are
I mean, if you love James Harden, look at my uniforms,
he's one in the last five years a lot. Seriously,
you gotta buy a lot of jerseys. Well, I mean, seriously,
can't you take it a loan? Could you really get
behind being a Brooklyn Nets fan when you're not from
New York? I mean, come on, no hear about James
Hard' what you are?

Speaker 7 (07:25):
So there?

Speaker 11 (07:26):
It is?

Speaker 7 (07:26):
It all right?

Speaker 2 (07:27):
We have a busy show today. We will have to
Miko Ryans will be speaking in the media at eleven
thirty this morning. We will carry that for you here
on Sports Talk seven Ounty. Also, we've got to tell
the truth normally at eleven thirty we're gonna bump that
to twelve thirty today and then Gordon's gonna come in
the last hour of the show because I'm gonnad off
to d C. Well, he might not really, he he
might be busy on some calls. He said, I'll see

(07:49):
I can handle it. You sure it's only an Adam in. Yeah,
get an Adam in, Get a Dann Matthews in. If
you will pick an Adam Yeah, a pick a randomick
an Adam ani Adam Yeah, for sure. All right, So
we got that today and we have a lot to
get to from the NFL playoffs. What is it more
of automatic three point thirty for a Texans or twelve
or one o'clock for the Astros. It feels like it's

(08:10):
about fifty one to forty nine Texans. Well, there be some.
There have been some three o'clock Astro games, playoffs, eight
at eight. You can't argue with that. No, eight times
in the playoffs, eight times at early Saturday. Yeah, and
it just once again improves to you. And again it
doesn't really matter, but the Texans do. I mean, first
of all, the Chargers carry no cachet in Los Angeles,

(08:32):
much less across the country. But the Texans carry zero
national cachet, which is a surprising work that they were
on national television as much as they were this past year. Yeah,
it's growing, it is, I think.

Speaker 7 (08:44):
So.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I think the growing sign would be not playing a
three thirty on Saturday, Matt. I guarantee if they win though, no,
never mind, they could be early Saturday. Again, I guarantee
if they win two games, they won't be the early
game on the Selardy go wait, really go out there,
all right, So we have that to get to Rockets.
We have Texans, we have NFL playoffs, we have great
college basketballs. My Cougars beat the other Cougar's on Saturday.

(09:06):
Wean't to talk about this Fox Sports lawsuit at some point,
and we're gonna talk about Joy Taylor because it's skis
to skip two. Although who's wearn't it worse? Today it
feels like Joey's got a slight lead on that bad
boy because she likes to have sex apparently with Matt.
That's how the species continues with multiple people and around

(09:26):
people that she works with. Oh that's different. She's she's
she's in she's in a rotation. All right, that's that's
just uncalled for. But I mean it's seriously, you know,
it's you know, it's been the most interesting part of
it all is that we've got a lot of female
sports broadcasters that are like this bitch. I mean seriously,
it's by no fault, like if if if Skip Billy

(09:50):
paid a million and a half dollars to have sex
with somebody. I mean, he's just a dog, but he
doesn't ruin the male species. Joy Taylor is out horn
around and every female sports reporters get, you know, draked
over the calls over it. Nobody who is can be
victim of a stereotype, likes when other people fit that
stereotype and make everyone else look at that. Yeah, all right?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven

(10:11):
one three two one two five Seveney, I want to
ask a serious and honest question, how much of the
Texans game did you watch yesterday? And I got one
more unpopular take about the game, not involving the teams,
but just about the atmosphere that was Nashville yesterday. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one

(10:32):
three two one two five Sevenintie Matt Thomas Show with
Ross taking you know, two o'clock today This is Sports
Talk seven.

Speaker 8 (10:36):
Ninety more Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
All Right, you know that after last year when the Texans,
excuse me, when the Titans wor they Boilers gear, I
was like, screw you, Amy Crunk's drunk. You're so lucky
that you didn't earn any of what you've just inherited
because of simply you're the child of the spawn of Bud.

(11:14):
I'm trying to be the spawn of Bud. Sounds like
a bad eighties movie. Yeah, and I'm happy they got there.
Ask Kik yesterday wearing those gears are great? But oh too,
but they look great, and I come over it. I
mean I'm not. I'm certainly over it, but it doesn't
mean I can't still appreciate how good. I appreciate how

(11:34):
good they look. They got to stop. I mean, you're
getting your ass kicked by Case Ketam and Davis Mills
and wait, give it up. There were like twenty five
thousand people in the crowd that was cold as including staff, Yeah,
egg players and the mascot. But yeah, the uniforms look good.
And then the second game, can't see Denver, which was
a blowout because Denver was playing for something can't say

(11:56):
was on the Broncos going to the old school stuff
thirty age. We've just got to go.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
You know.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Some people say, you know, you have to change with
the times and you have to do this, Yes, just that,
you know, always stay current in sports uniform apparel. Going
to the past is significantly better. The Rockets last night
had the Rockets. Now it's it's ketchup in gold where
it's compared with Ketchup and Mustard back in the day.
But the Ketchup and Gold with the updated h Town jerseys,

(12:24):
with the rock old Rockets logo, it's protectically the floor
looks fantastic. Everybody loves old school everybody. I shouldn't say everybody.
A lot of people love old school, right, even young people.
Like there's a I don't know what it is, but
there's a better energy when those Htown jerseys are on
in Houston. There's a there was obviously supposed to better

(12:45):
energy for the Titans, but they didn't work out for them. No,
it didn't seem to uh. But you know, like the
Bronco fans are like, please, let's worthy these every single week.

Speaker 4 (12:53):
M M.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
I don't know. I think we're I'm glad to see
that we are seeing now again. We're seeing a variety
different goofy Ash uniforms out there. But the nostalgic stuff
is really really working well. Yes, we always like nostalgia. Yeah,
it's like I don't know, Miller, like going to the
old can from the from the eighties or seventies or whatever.
When you're in the shower, you want a good cold

(13:16):
nineteen seventy five Miller light beer. You get it, okay.
Bobby Sloman, by the way, being interviewed or will be
has been asked by the New York Jet to Politans
for their bank coaching spot. And is the Texans fan
general consensus to see you later, see later? Isn't it crazy?
And this happens a lot of times in college sports.

(13:36):
A certain coordinator will go from one school to the
other and it's like, oh, don't at the door, hit you, Nash, Yeah,
can't wait for you to come here. It's always the
coordinator's fault, like you of h just had an offensive
coordinator this past year that got fired with a week
left to go in the season. He was at Misissippi
State and they're and all about on Twitter's Missisippi State,
we told you he sucked.

Speaker 7 (13:53):
You know.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
It's it's the easy thing to do is your guy
leaves you for what you think is a better spot,
or he's trying to get a way before he gets
fired and he wants to get fired, Like, yeah, we
didn't miss him at all. Yeah, Texans offensive line is
like the worst in the NFL and blown block and
pressure rate and it's saw bobby' sloke's fault. Mm hmm yep. Oh,
by the way, Laramie Tuncil congratulates in your Pro Bowl

(14:14):
and then getting multiple false starts penalties. The second one
I felt like was a it should have been a
neutral zone in fraction one of the play. One of
the other players, the Titans players came across the line
and then he went on yeah, yeah the second one.
The first one was obvious, second one was at and
then I don't know who was it. Somebody in the
broadcast was saying, well, you know, the cadence changes with
the quarterback. I mean, my god, you're a Pro Bowl

(14:34):
offensive lineman. You should be able to adapt to Rossville
to Reales taking the snaps. They shouldn't. Yeah, that's true.
I'm just a downstad Hut guy. Yeah, but I mean,
don't get me started. Go ahead, Matt, talk about how
much you hate Laramie Tuk. I'm not a fan of hell,
I know, and you know what I'm not by myself.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
I know.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
The Pro Bowl Committee, well, I guess how much is
it fan It's some fan vote and it's not even
a Pro Bowl element of it. At least the NFL
is smart enough Bowl selection. Yeah, but who do you
get is selected to All American there's no game, yeah,
so I mean there's no All Pro game. You're still
all Pro. Yeah, but of all Pro is the it's
the it's the big banner, it's the big Yeah. You

(15:15):
get like a big soap dish where he says all
pro on all Pro is absolutely. Yeah, that's way more
important than Pro Bowl because, as you said before, a
lot of guys like I can't make it. I can't
I can't play flag football in Orlando. Yeah, we're good
because thinking about it, if the Pro Bowls in years past,
it never involved the Super Bowl teams, So that's probably
ten players itself that weren't playing. Yeah, and Joe Mixon
said he hopes he's not at the Pro Bowl because
he wants to be at the Super Bowl. Well, I

(15:37):
got news for him. He'll be at the Pro Bowl
and he'll love zero problem getting there. I believe Matt
that you're right line right now is depending on who
you're looking at. Three three and a half. Yes, Chargers
favored in Houston. Yeah, it doesn't matter to me what
Vegas thinks. That's about what it's going to happen on Saturday.
I mean, could the Texans win the game? Of course,

(15:59):
LA is not immune from Lena an Egg. I mean
they have had a history of terrible, terrible fourth quarter,
second half games in playoff games and losing them. And
Herbert's really, really good, but he's not perfect. I got
a question for some friends of mine. Their names are
Laramie Tunsel and uh and Blake Fisher. Are Khalil mack
and and Joey Bosa both healthy? We will find out

(16:22):
let it this week. Okay. I was talking to Wexlaus
not the Rockets, and I said, do you think the
NFL would make the Chargers? Oh they are because they
had a road game in Vegas yesterday. Yeah, both Joey
Bosa and Khalil Macker. Oh god, you're all right over there. No,
you're sweating bullets right, Oh, okay, let's get that run

(16:47):
game going. Was there any thought the NFL said it'd
be really not very fair for the Chargers of being
the last road game of the season. Now, grant in
Vegas to Las in our flights is not a big
of a deal. Then had them fly to LA to
Houston on a short week and the answers to you,
of course it is. Yeah, they want the best matchups
eleven and six the Los Angeles Chargers. They really came
on you know what and say this. I think Jim

(17:08):
Harbor at the end of the day is a horrible
human being. Yeah, I mean I would have to. I
wouldn't trust him with anything in my life except maybe coaching,
because it's it's well, I mean, Zack is gonna wear
thin on the NFL players. But it didn't. But did
it wear thin in San Francisco? Yes, you really think
it did?

Speaker 7 (17:27):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (17:28):
Well, I just my thought wasn't and again we weren't
around it. My thought was he gets chanced to go
back those alamater gets paid a bowload of money, go
win that. But he's always done his win That's true.
Literally all he's done he's won freaking Stanford. He was winning.
He wanted the University of San Diego one double A. Yeah,
they're like, oh, we'll go ahead, keep you forever. No,
I'm going to Stanford. We'll see you. But everything he's done,

(17:50):
he's won. That is true. And now he does he
gets to plub any rules he wants to because he
doesn't have to follow any rules. H when's the what's
the what do they call it in the NISA double
A the no higher policy or something like when does
that expire? Fault or something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's crazy. Let's talk to some people. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two,
one two five seven ninety We'll start today with Don

(18:13):
in Cyprus at ten to twenty four of The Matt
Thomas Show with ross Don. Good morning to you, Hey,
good morning, hey.

Speaker 12 (18:19):
I was just looking up the criteria for the Pro
Bowl for Linemen and there's a special note asterisk down
at the bottom. I said, you have to lead the
NFL and faalse starts. So uh, let's go ahead and
get that all cleared up right now. That's the reason
why it's going.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
That makes sense.

Speaker 12 (18:33):
But yes, yeah, now let me ask you. I got
to ask you a question. Seriously, we're on the six
inch line. Whose decision would that be to pass the
ball twice on third down and they're on four down
when you're six inches away and not do a quarterback sneak?
If it's Salon, then don't let the door hit you

(18:53):
in the ass. Go the Jets and have fun and
we'll find somebody else that can make the correct play calling.
And because I just don't believe is the head coach
that that had to be sloan personal call on that one.

Speaker 7 (19:04):
And that's just me.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
You mean slow, not slow, bbby slow so slowly or
whatever you want to call it. No, I think it's
been Bobby Slow since day one. We've never been we've
never reinvented his name. But no, Dimiko does not call
plays on offense. He does not.

Speaker 12 (19:21):
God, man, that was horrible, man, So I'll just hang
up list.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Okay, let's let's keep it family friendly here. Good gracious,
I call myself, you did, you did a nice job.
Ninety percent of the word I don't know. And you
know again it's Bobby Slow. For those of you playing
at home, Yes, yeah, two bad passes on the third
and goal from the one for sure, but I don't know.

(19:50):
I will say on the play action of the fourth down,
it looked like the run would have been blown up.
When that happened and I saw it again, I was like,
okay that if that was a run play, it would
have been the Tennessee was was looking and they would
have blown that play up. So it was a good
play call in theory. Davis Mills didn't make the throw,
Robert Woods didn't get open. He can't. Let's just stop.
Let's stop right there. Yeah, Robert Woods, Davis Mills. You're

(20:13):
trying to ask us to analyze those two Jabroni's I mean, please,
come on, come on. If Davis Mills could have made
a better throw and Robert Woods had a more separated,
better separation, it would have been a good play. So
you know what you're going This is not six ' ten.
We're not going to do this for four hours. I'm sorry.
We're going to do ourselves. We're going to talk big

(20:33):
picture on this. And you said Joey Post is playing, huh, yes,
and Khalil mackis and Khalil Mack is going to play
and they're not. Arthurritic hopefully they developed some arthurritis in
the next week and they don't have like they didn't
been playing a vacation somewhere and can't to skip this
game for any reason. It's a concern. It's a concern,
to be sure. And another thing for you too is

(20:58):
you know people are like, well, you know, they come
to our house and they're gonna they're gonna face sixty
five thousand screaming fans, and they face they faced sixty
five thousand fans in over their teams it's called their
home games. Sure is it is crazy that you have
a team in Los Angeles, in this beautiful facility where
they share with the Los Angeles Rams, and they have

(21:18):
no fans. I mean, my one of my best friends
in life I've been since in the sixth grade, has
been Buddy Ed. You've met him before ROSSI He's he's
the only Charter fan I know. I mean, legitimately, they
may have more fans in San Diego still to this
day than they do in Los Angeles. But yeah, they win,
I mean everything they and look they're eleven and six,

(21:40):
I mean, damn. And Justin Herbert's really good, he really is.

Speaker 7 (21:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
JK Dobbins back. He's really good as a running back.
Herbert's really come along as the season's gone along. Quentin Johnson,
I thought the dude was gonna be a straight up bust.
He just had one hundred and eighty plus yards wow
last game. I mean, Lad McConkey is is really good
in this lot. Like they they're favored for a reason. Yeah,
if you ask me who the better football team is,
I'm telling you it's the Los Angeles Chargers. But again,

(22:06):
teams can also lay eggs on the road. I mean,
this is this You're gonna find very few plastions, very few.
You're gonna find some people that are gonna believe that
the Chargers are gonna win this game. Matter of fact,
probably a majority, but it ain't a no brainer. Like
I give Denver zero percent chance of winning in Buffalo
this week. Like there's a bunch of other matchups that

(22:27):
I think are way more out of line. That's yeah,
there are way more matchups in Wildcar weekend to me,
come across as the home team is gonna throw is
going to dominate or the team that I should say
the team that's favored Texans can win this game. They've actually, look,
Cleveland came in last year before the playoff game, and
Joe Flatco had reinvented himself in one game in December,

(22:51):
and everybody was like, oh, hell, this is not gonna
work out. And then he comes back, what four weeks
later or even less than that, and he lays an
egg Texas team. Look, the Texans defense can can hang
with this group. Offensively, They've got no chance unless Joe
Mixon get you four to five yards to carry on
a regular basis setting up second and short, and somebody
besides Nico Collins can go downfield. I need some time

(23:15):
to get optimistic because right now, no, I mean, honestly,
I wouldn't be at this point. Give me the end
of the week, give me let me here Demiico speak.
Let me take you now, let me take your battle red.

three two one two five seven ninety Your thoughts in

(23:36):
the Texans playoff chances against the Chargers, If you want
to recap anything, and again, if you bring up Davis Mills,
we're not tiving the conversation, which we're just or a
Davis free radio show today, We're is not doing that.
Rockets beat the Lakers last night and Lebron I think
Rossie would have one field goal in the fourth quarter
or did he think? I think something like that one

(23:56):
or two? Yeah, locked up. They needed a three pointer
late in the game. I thought it was gonna be
a four point play. Thankfully it was an offensive fouling
in Tantana. Davis and I think we've got ourselves maybe
the face of the Rockets franchise, and it ain't one
of the two guys just got a big fat contract.
Throw that out there. Domico speaks in one hour. This

(24:17):

met there by James and by Phinty Smithland ball is
high in the air, caught.

Speaker 6 (25:35):
And then dumped by Ann Thompson.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
It was like they drew it up. Goodness. Look, I
love them all. They're really good dudes, some of the Rockets.
And they're the second best team record wise in a
Western commerce, which is crazy. I'm all. I'm all for it.
After going forty one and forty one last year, go

(25:58):
baby is moving up the list. God he is freakishly athletic.
Winter our gut feelings, Okay, they are tomorrow at eleven thirty. Okay,
you got one on this. Yes, now you're pregnant, pausing,
which concerns me a little bit. I might even have

(26:19):
to put my name on it.

Speaker 7 (26:24):
Damn.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
We're gonna make me wait twenty four twenty five hours
for this, or you and tell me now twenty six
were twenty five? You and tell me now? Nope, Well
you you better write that down so you don't forget
what I'll put it. I'll put it in the box
right now. Okay. So the Rockets last night with the Lakers, okay,

(26:45):
and as I mentioned, two seed right now and again,
long way to go, A long way to go, but
thirteen in the next seventeen on the road. I mean,
we keep saying long way to go. But we're thirty
five thirty six games in now almost halfway. We'll be
halfway by the time mid January finished up. That's not nothing, Matthew.
I'm feeling pretty good. I'm starting to feel like, oh

(27:07):
I did to tell the truth, I have I have
him in the top six. Oh okay, that's not to
tell the truth today at twelve thirty. But well, you
were gone like the whole month of December, so that's
not true most of Jane in November two. It was
in November and like two days in December. Great to
have you back. Okay. So my point is, and Wex
just texted me earlier, he just thank you for not

(27:29):
making a North Colin State Houston reference on that, because
that's exactly how that That's exactly what went through my mind. Well,
I have blocked that out of my memories until I
see it on ESP and you every other weekend. Yeah,
I think, I mean immediately is what I thought of. Sorry,
well I interpreted differently as and then anticipated that ball

(27:50):
being an air nice pass from Jailen gar Yeah. Does
he get the assist on that? I hope he does.
I don't even know if he did or not. I
don't think he would have because that was definitely in
a shot form motion as compared to ass motion. But
a man's really really really really really good place four
positions had to last night. You know, Jabari is not
gonna be probably out two months, so you know it's

(28:12):
gonna be a lean lineup, and you have Brooks, a Men,
Freddy and Jalen. I mean you're not you just no girth, right,
it's not girthy enough for you. It's not like a
Davis Mills neck. Hmm. Okay, that's that's a weird analogy,

(28:32):
but it still works. A cross reference that you only
hear on the Man Thomas Show. Yeah, they're gonna be shorthand.
I like Jabari Smith Jr. I was talking about it
last night and the Rockets Rep program. I didn't listen.
That's okay, inserting him in Thompson, I mean, and you
could hear it. I mean maybe I can go find
it later. But there are Udoka has asked about it

(28:52):
in postgame last night, like what what is different with
a men Thompson in the starting lineup? And even before
the reporter could finish their question, it's like everything he's
so he's always just read like he's almost got twenty
rebounds last night almost he's insane. He's so athletic, he's
so good. He's such a high basketball IQ twenty years
old by the way, and can hip toss people like

(29:12):
a mutta. Just learn to shoot, and he is going
to You're unlocking All Star an All Star player.

Speaker 7 (29:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
I don't know if he'll ever get to that level
that you're looking for. But and and he has shot
better this year than last. It's not significantly better, but
it's a little bit of an improvement. Here's here's the
reality of it. He's gonna be allowed to shoot, not allowed,
He's going to be given the opportunity to shoot threes
because they're gonna leave him open. They're gonna they're gonna

(29:43):
continue the last night he had variety of open looks
because teams are not are gonna sag back on him,
because there's no need to put a hand in his face,
because he's not a great perimeter shooter.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
Round.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
It's all about the question is finding. He has to
find his ceiling, and to find his ceiling, he has
to work hard, and I know he's going to do that.
So he's going to reach in that terms of his
and that's in that a facet of his game. He's
going to reach his full potential. It's a question of
where is that right. Steph Curry's full shooting potential is
higher than anybody else's ever on the planet, and he's

(30:14):
obviously worked really hard. But there are people who have
worked on their shot as hard as Steph Curry, but
they can here's some certain something you don't have that
you can't shoot them. And I don't want to get
two manus in the NBA, but there's Andrea Godalla. He's
a guy that had a fifteen year NBA career that
did everything in the men's Thompson doing. My guess is
that a men's doing at an earlier age than Ingodala did.
But Iguadell was never a great shooter and never became
a great shooter. And that's just new that's who he was.

(30:37):
I have a it's not an apples to apples comparison,
but the name Draymond Green comes to my mind guarding
everyone playmaker has a very high basketball IQ. Smart defensively
and offensively, and it is because the Swiss Army knife
on the court. They're built a little bit differently. They
are Draymond's more of a and more of a right

(31:01):
guarding of five. But I just mean in that type
of player, Yeah, it is an extremely valuable defensive weapon.
I mean he was locking up Lebron James last night.
He was getting pushed around in the post, but he
wasn't biting on fakes and he was contesting the shots.
He was making it hard on Lebron James. Yeah, Draymond's
a five by five player. I could see. I could
see a men doing that. And I think because Amen's athleticism,

(31:24):
he might wind up being a better defensive player than Dreamond.
But again it's it's not it's not true comparison Draymond is.
I mean, he's been Defensive Player of the Year caliber
and Thompson right now, to me, his first team All
Defense caliber. But Lebron last night had to work for it.
He had a great third quarter, but was really not
seen much in the fourth quarter at off knocking down
a bunch of deep threes. I mean, that's gonna happen.

(31:45):
I'll tell you who was the best player last night
for the Lakers, probably was Austin Reeves. And then you know,
Anthony Davis got going. Anthony Davis, I mean, he's just man,
He's a different kind of athlete, like the the LinkedIn
explosiveness and all that with with with Anthony Davis. Anthony
Davis's biggest detriment to his resume is that he's always hurt.

(32:06):
And it's not it's not the broken leg series, it's
the got hit in the eyeball and is out for
two weeks. It's the uh, you gotta scratch on his
shoulder bladings out for a week. I mean he's just
think it's the fluky stuff.

Speaker 7 (32:19):
Yeah. Uh.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
He hit thirty and thirteen last night with five blocks
and you kind of hardly noticed in a way, I
think shot last night. Right, He's just he's just out
there doing his thing. Man, he's so good. So let
me ask you this because we don't have an answer
to this. There were a lot of Boston fans in
the arena on Friday night. Yes, there were significant number

(32:43):
of Lebron fans in there. There are a lot of
Lakers people in Lakers at her Now, Connor, I want
to ask you this question. I don't know if you
know what about in your life, Connor, that is a
Rockets fan but also a Lebron fan and your general
thoughts about that.

Speaker 13 (33:00):
Yeah, the person I went to the game last night,
and the person I went with was a Lebron fan
and would cheer for Lebron every time he squared, but
then would also cheer for the Rocketsman, I.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Feel like there was a lot of that actually in
the building last night. Just the way that it sounded,
it felt like to me there were a lot of
rocket fans in the building, but weren't Those people were
not afraid to put the Lebron gear on because they
really loved the Lebron more than they love anything else.

Speaker 13 (33:22):
They were wearing Rockets red, but would cheer very loud
when Lebron's went.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
M hm did dude? Look, I know there's a lot
of controversy and people hate him and all that type
of stuff. You're talking about an all time legend that
if you were in the building last night, you saw
one of the all time, all time greats. And here's
the thing forty years old and nearly had a twenty
point triple double.

Speaker 7 (33:41):
He looks.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
I mean, it's great, too easy of a term. He
looks now he can he can check out of some
games and maybe acquiesced to some other folks. You know,
if if I'm the Lakers. I don't know if I
want Dorian Finney Smith shooting his much over way as
many shots as Lebron does are close to it. I
don't know if Max Chrisy's going to move the needle,

(34:05):
But damn, when Lebron wants the ball and takes over games,
he hits these incredible side eight foot shots off the
backboard with a hand in the face. He hits the
He doesn't hitt cheapy threes. He hits deep threes. Now
he's had a great three point shooter, has been adequate,
but he's been better later in his career. Yeah, there's

(34:27):
just no slowing. There's not significant slowage of his overall play.
And we're blessed for it. I mean, I think, and
I always go to this card that you know in
your lifetime as a sports fan, what do you what
have you been blessed to see? I've been able to.
I've been blessed enough to see the greatest basketball player
of all time. I think the second blessed player of

(34:47):
all time. Hm, I think I've been able to. I've
been able to see the home run King, the stretch one, well,
the berries. You know I'm with you. Check the record book.
Look who's first and home runs? It says Barry Bonds.
I saw the strikeout king. Yes, I've seen the greatest
golf at christ Carter. No. No, I've seen the greatest

(35:08):
golf for about an eight year stretch, we've been pretty lucky.
Lebron right now is averaging twenty four points seven point
six rebounds and almost nine assists and he's forty. How
many people have done that in a season in their career.
If you do that, if you got somebody in the
rockets right now, if Amn Thompson was averaging twenty four
nine assists and seven point six rebounds, you'd be like,

(35:29):
oh my god, he's crushing it. Lebron is doing that
at forty, and said last week he could go five
or six more years, and I don't died he couldn't. Yeah,
I think he's going to go five or six more
years because what I think is going to happen as
soon as he retires, he's going to become the owner
of the Las Vegas NBA franchise. He'll have enough money

(35:51):
to basically maybe buy it himself or at least have
to have majority ownership. Yeah, has he Now I know
he's I think he's part investor is at Liverpool. I
see it's a European I mean, you can put this
down in the all time gut feelings, but it's gonna
put my name on it. Lebron James is going to
own an NBA franchise. He's going to have enough money

(36:11):
to be a majority owner. Not like you know how
like Tom Brady's on like a sliver of the writers.
This is Lebron going to be running this operation. Yeah,
he's part owner of Liverpool, which is I mean that's
one of the Big six clubs. Investment is that that's
I mean, I don't know what percentage he has. Yeah,
but Liverpool is one of the heritage teams in England.
It's it's one of the big what's called the Big

(36:32):
six clubs and they're leading the Premier League right now.

Speaker 7 (36:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:34):

you know who Skip Bayless is see okay, well we'll discuss.

(36:56):
We will discuss after I tell you about Uptown Appliance Repair.

Speaker 5 (38:05):
More.

Speaker 8 (38:05):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
What Rockets Jersey should I get next? As George and Cyprus?
We will give him the answer to that in a
couple of moments. Ten fifty on Sports Talk seven ninety.
I want to go over the uh. This is an
awful announcings website, which is a media watchdog website, very
very good. It concerns what's going on at FS one.

(38:40):
So apparently there was a hairdresser, yes, named Nushine Faraji.
Have you seen what she looks like? Now that it matters?
What's the first thing you brought up about her? I'm
just saying, I'm just curious. Apparently worked for the COUP.
During a haircut, Skip Bayless referred to her as voluptuous. English,

(39:03):
being her second language, Ferajji was not familiar with the term.
Per the filing, Mister Bayliss seemed amused and told her
to quote figure it out. Miss Faraggi later asked a
coworker that what the word meant and was mortified, mister
Baylison started being more aggressive and directed his advances. Miss
Faraggi continuously declined, stating that she did not date at

(39:24):
work and she's a single mom and needed her job. Ward.
Then comes out that Skip Bayless was going to offer
Miss Ferraggi one and a half million dollars for sex.
Now this is what she allegends. That's a very random
number in a lawsuit. Well, this is a very high number. Well,
I mean, how do I I'll let you finish. It's

(39:48):
too high. Sex only should come in a certain value. Dinner, wine,
maybe a movie, flowers, not a million and a half bucks. Yeah,
trip to the in laws, a call weakened in Fredericksburg. Yeah, uh,

(40:09):
going to the nut Cracker Festival. That's sex. Because guys,
that's just the Antichrist for us one point five million dollars.
We'll steep and okay, And I'm not calling her a liar,
but that just seems like out of control. July, I'm
sure she didn't added a couple extra zeros. On accident.

(40:31):
July twenty twenty one, Miss Feragie developed issues with her
left overing was advised it could be cancer. She explained
her situation to skip, hoping that he would take pity
on her and cease his advances. Instead, mister Bayliss told
her that he wanted to be with her. Miss Feraggi
panicked and began rambling that there were cameras everywhere, that
she has a child, and that she does not want him.
Mister Bayliss then grabbed her hands, began kissing them, and

(40:53):
offered her one point five million dollars to have sex.
Miss Faraggi had an excuse to leave. Now there's more
to it, right, okay, so read the next paragraph that
you just left off. Mister Bayliss then told Miss Froggie
that he fantasizes about having sex with her and asked
how much money would take for her to have sex
with him. Miss Froggie stated that she already refused one

(41:16):
point five million and that her answer wasn't going to change.
Mister Bayliss replied, the more you say no, the more
I want you.

Speaker 14 (41:21):
Oh Jesus, come with skip skip skip, mister Bayliss, what
are we doing here?

Speaker 2 (41:30):
Folks approx to me. One week later, mister Bayliss made
another event. Oh geez, mister Miss Ferroggi said, stop skip
you have a wife. Mister Bayliss responded, aren't you Muslim?
Doesn't your dad have three to four wives? Miss Feraggi
responded that her father was dead, and when mister Bayliss
looked taken aback, she made an excuse to leave. Why
would you say this skip allegedly? Okay, so now you

(41:55):
have to help me finish the story because there's now
the joy tenor aspect to it. Yeah, there's another allegation
in a lawsuit. We'll just kind of a detail. I
suppose Fox executive Charlie Dixon, usually Charlie Dixon. Okay, that's
his name, all right, good thing it's not Richard Dixon

(42:17):
gives Joy Taylor undisputed as a reward for having sex
with him. Okay. In twenty sixteen, Miss Taylor asked Miss Ferraggi,
now called Joey Taylor, the host, Miss Ferraggi, the hairdresser,
to meet for a drink in Santa Monica. When Miss
Faragi arrived, she found Miss Taylor with an older man,

(42:38):
Fox Sports Executive Vice President of Content, mister Dixon. Mister
Dixon responsible for overseeing all content and production on FS
one from their body language, Miss Ferragi suspected the pair
were sleeping with each other. Although this concern Miss Froggie,
as she knew Miss Taylor was recently married, Miss Ferraggi
kept her opinions to herself. Dixon apparently gropes Feraji at

(43:04):
a party. Joey Taylor says, quote, get over it. This
is this is messy. Meanwhile, Joy Taylor is having sexual
relations with this Fox Sports executive and with one of
her co hosts, Emmanuel Acho. Where do you go to school? Uh,

(43:25):
Manuel Oto. That would be of the Longhorn. That would
be the University of Texas Longhorns. Okay, this is a
feather in the cap for the program, I'd say so. Essentially,
what we're finding out here is that Joy Taylor is like,
get over it, and I'm knocking boots with a bunch
of people here at FS one leave me alone.

Speaker 7 (43:42):
I'll just two.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
Let's see. Dixon fires female talent member for refusing to
have sex with them. This is what is alleged in
the lawsuit. Dixon pays off Joy Taylor's then fiance in
exchange for silence about their relationship. Was also alleged after
learning of Miss Taylor and Miss Dixon's sexual relationship Miss Taylor.
Then fiance broke off the engagement and threatened to go public.
It was Earl Watson, wasn't it. Yes, former NBA player

(44:08):
and coach on Information and Belief mister Dixon paid for
the wedding deposits and an informal exchange for her fiance's silence.
Fox employee harasses Faraji, but isn't fired because of his
role in supplying cocaine to numerous Fox employees, and there
perfect is also alleged in lawsuit. I think what I

(44:33):
would recommend is, I would recommend all of you go
to Awful Announcing dot com and read this whole thing,
because it just gets more and more salacious. Wow, some
wild stuff. If you look at joy Taylor, if you
hit Joey Taylor on your social media accounts, it's not
gonna be very flattering. What do you mean, Oh, the
the mention, the mentions of her will be not very flying.

Speaker 7 (44:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
The people house gonna say her pictures and videos are flattering. Yeah,
I mean she's By the way, her brother was a
Jason Taylor who was a longtime Miami dolphin. And that's
today's salacious sports television report for the day. All right,
George is in Cyprus here at eleven oh seven or
ten to fifty seven. We'll start the opening hour with him.
He wants to ask me what Rockets jersey should he get.

(45:19):
Do we have the same answer. Maybe we'll find out.
Texans beat the Titans yesterday, the AFC Champions South champions again.
They hit the over on ten they did when it
was nine.

Speaker 7 (45:31):
And a half.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Wow, that's great. I owe somebody just as I predicted.
I owe somebody a moderates state dinner. Oh I think
that won me some money.

Speaker 3 (45:41):
Let me go.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
Look ill awre you some money too, von don't I
for what charitable purposes?

Speaker 7 (45:47):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (45:48):
Yeah you do? Dead beat Rockets win last night. My
Cougar's won on Saturday. Cougar's playing at TCU tonight. Your
Longhorns loss to a m and college basketball and Saturday down. Yeah,
second half was not pretty correct. The middle son had
a great time. Good for him. Seven one three two

taking you till two o'clock this afternoon at seven one

and the coaching staff of the Colts remains in Indianapolis.

(47:49):
Not to be said for Doug Peterson fired today as
the coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. That's a shame to
Rod Mayo out at one year in New England, like immediately,
I mean, Robert, I have wasted no time. They must have,
like we goofed because Rod Mayo was a guy, was
like the protege, the future replacement for a long time. Yeah,
not good at all. So what happened? Was it that bad?

(48:11):
You know, I don't know, we don't know, and know
we're going to particularly care, but you know what, good
for them?

Speaker 7 (48:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (48:16):
I mean I don't want to see Jerrod Mayo draw.
Mayo will get another opportunity, unless it was just such
a train wreck that they were like, you know, no good. Well,
the conspiracy theory is that he didn't follow instructions to lose. Smith.
Do you think that you would get fired in the
final week of the season over one loss or one win?

(48:38):
I don't know when. Hmm. I'm not saying that's what happened.
I'm saying that's what the theory on the Twitter streets. Okay,
that's what the streets are saying. Man, streets don't lie sometimes,
they like quite frequently. Actually, all right, Uh that we
know the Texans are going to play next year, Uh
they will play home for Arizona when then, I'm just

(49:00):
kidding doing this might as well, It's okay, I'm okay
with that Arizona home, when Denver, when Las Vegas, when
San Francisco loss. They will travel to SOFI Stadium twice
for the Chargers and Rams, we'll say to split those
they will go to Arrowhead for the third time in

(49:20):
five loss and uh, you know this is terrible that
they didn't organize this schedule is not organized very well.
Let me let me do the home in road. I
want to make sure you're the right ones here. We'll
forget it. No, no, no, we can count here, we go.
I got it for you here. Let me just go
down to the AMC South, the Scroll Great Radio South.
Home games Colts, Jaguars, Titans win, Win win, Broncos win,

(49:44):
Raiders win, Bills loss, Cardinals, uh win, forty nine Ers loss, Buccaneers.
Let's go lost. So you got what you got it? No,
they only you can only play eight five and three? Wait,
three six, No, they got nine home games six and three. Okay,
six and three. They were five and three this year.

Speaker 7 (50:05):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (50:06):
Road games Colts win, Jaguars win, Titans loss, Chiefs loss,
Chargers loss, Ravens Rams win. Gotta start and put the
winds in here somewhere, Seattle win. So what's the record?

(50:29):
I think I came up with nine and eight. No,
it's better than that. I think I think you don't
know what they're gonna do in for agency nine and eight, ten,
And say what if T Higgins comes here, Steph Dix
comes back. I wouldn't count on that he could, I
wouldn't count on it. I would like it if he did. Now,
if he wants to come in a on a minimum
deal or very low. It would be a low proven

(50:51):
deal again, because he means he's coming off an a
cl injury. And he said everybody's everybody in Houston he said,
was like family. Mattah, we would he wouldn't just say
that we were the same thing from Bregmant. I'm just
kidding Springer and Korea and Tucker. Yeah, this Steph Diggs
is different. He's loyal. Oh my god, you are such
battle red it's ridiculous. I'm kidding. George and Cyprus at
eleven o five on seven Ounty George, good morning, Good morning, y'all.

Speaker 15 (51:15):
I know my question seems lame, but I'm trying to
get my Well, my girlfriend fiance is.

Speaker 7 (51:21):
Now into Rockets basketball.

Speaker 2 (51:23):
Nice.

Speaker 15 (51:23):
I have a dream, Yeah, I agree, I have a
dream jersey.

Speaker 7 (51:27):
That's the only basketball jersey I had the team the dream,
of course, So I didn't want to ask y'all who
should I get next, because I don't buy these lights.

Speaker 15 (51:35):
They're expensive and I just thought of this on the spot.
But I wanted to ask Ross how he feels about
the Ohio State game upcoming weekend.

Speaker 2 (51:44):
I'm not feeling great about it. The run game hasn't
been very good the last few weeks, and then that
means you're counting on quinn yours to win you games. Now,
he did do it against Arizona State. He was spectacular
in overtime, but it's also not something that I'm going
to consistently that is gonna consistently happen. The defense is
really good as long as they don't get worn out
like they did. I think really about a touchdown dog,

(52:09):
which is where it's at, feels about right. I feel
like I feel like the long horns can pull it off.

Speaker 7 (52:12):
Though.

Speaker 2 (52:13):
By the way, if any of you are long horned
fans going to the game, the weather in Dallas is
supposed to be terrible in this week, so just be
super careful as you go for going with the Cotton Bowl. Yeah,
it's supposed to be real icy up there. Yeah, let
me tell you, I can live with snow. Ice is
a different animal because first of all, it's hidden, and
I think you called for this. But all right, back
to your question, he wants a jersey. You can't go

(52:35):
wrong with Alpi, you can't go wrong with Jalen, you
can't go wrong with Aman Thompson. I'm going with the
third option. If you are you looking for like a
stable player that's gonna stay on the roster the longest. George, Yes,
that's actually legit what I want.

Speaker 7 (52:52):
I want them to like here in Alpi. Alpi was
my my first inclination.

Speaker 2 (52:57):
That's who might likes. But okay, again, I'm just curious
what y'all.

Speaker 15 (53:01):
Thought, because I love the show.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
So I just wanted to appreciate you, George, thanks for listening.
I would say this, thank you for the phone call.
If there's untouchable and things look the world the NBA
can change. There's one untouchable in the Rockets. It's a
Men Thompson's a Men Thompson. That's what I'm saying now.
If her favorite player is as outp to me, I
might put him second as far, but I could see

(53:23):
him being moved. I mean, everybody has a price. A
Men Thompson can get moved. There is nobody that is,
you know, untouchable. Depending on the deal. Like if you're
giving away a Men Thompson and getting back a star,
that's that's gonna be. Would you trade a man Thompson
for Devin Booker? How much longer is Devin Booker signed.

(53:43):
I don't even think it's about the length of time.
I think it's aout the money that you'd have to spend. No,
that's about time for me. Okay, it's Tillman's got money.
Tilman can break. It's about cat, is what I was
talking about. Right, Well, that's what I'm saying. Tillman can
go over the cat. That's true. He can all the aprons.
He's an apron guy. And by way, if any of
you ask me what an apron is, I will say something,

(54:04):
you were records and aprons, and he's got all that. Yeah,
Devin Booker is signed for three more years. Yes, I
would do it. So I don't feel good. But Photix
sentence call and said, we've got a deal. Devin Booker
can be yours. He will wake up in the morning
scoring thirty two points a game. You have to do that,
but we want a men Thompson h Trades is supposed

(54:27):
to be painful, right exactly. It hurts. It hurts, But
I think you would have to do that. The reason
why I think you would do it now, I'm gonna
I'm not endorsing it because I don't think it's either
one of those things that gonna happen is because again,
the only thing that men would probably be a liability
for would be a guy that you'd count on for
consistent perimeter game. But damn Rossie, did you see we

(54:50):
played thehighlight a minute ago, the heave ho of Jalen Green.
A man gets to the rim, knows is going to
be short, grabs the ball and jams it in. He's
a hillacious offensive rebounder. He's a rim protector for his size,
he's not He spent yesterday trying to guard the second
greatest player in the history of the NBA and had
no problem to him. But I understand. And he has

(55:13):
nose for the basketball offensively and defensive. He's always in
the right place at the right time. He has value.
He's ready to throw hands too. Is he the best
player on a championship team? No? Can Devin Booker be
the best player in a championship team?

Speaker 7 (55:25):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (55:25):
Okay, Giannis for a mental Yeah, okay, come on, let's
see you give me even another one. We will see
what's going that's gonna hurt. It hurts Jimmy Butler. No, No,
who's who's out there wants to betrayed that would be

(55:46):
very I'm not here on awards. He's not leaving Minnesota. Well,
he's going to eventually, because I always get grumpy. Darren Fox. Oh,
Darren Fox for a men Thompson and one for one
uhar in Foxes one more year. You're closing your eyes.
You're having a pontificate.

Speaker 7 (56:05):
Good.

Speaker 2 (56:08):
Oh, I guess. But see, let me ask you this.
If you were if you were a general manager and
you were working wiggling like you are, wouldn't you wiggle?
If you wiggle doesn't mean the answer is typically going
to be no, no, Like you said, it has to hurt.
But there's so much about I mean, Lebron James was

(56:29):
heaping immense praise in him last night. Yes, we'll have
some of that on the news at noon. Oh we will, Yes, Okay,
coming up at the bottom of the hour. Tomiko's going
to speak supposed to be at one o'clock today, but
he said, you know what, I want to put it
in the prime of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
She's like, man, we got to get ready by Saturday

Speaker 8 (57:52):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (58:04):
Normally we have to tell the truth at eleven thirty,
but since we got the demiico availability at eleven thirty,
we're gonna move to twelve thirty and Ross, I've got
four takes, three of them which I believe. It's your
job to find the one that I don't believe. It's
harder than arty these days. Do you think it? Do
you think it's easier to figure out which is the
liear which one is the truth before? Uh?

Speaker 7 (58:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
It's fine, it doesn't matter, Okay, Well, three to four
I believe, and one I don't. Okay.

Speaker 3 (58:30):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
By the way, I did put a poll question up today.
You know I have a dull question, Jael. You love polls, Matt,
poll questions. Thanks for asking, uh, Paul question the poll master,
thank you. The greatest tradition in sports. The four options
were the Masters, Army Navy football okay, the Kentucky Derby

(58:51):
Texans wild Card game at three thirty on Saturday. Overwhelmingly
it's the Texans. The wild card game at three thirty six,
The greatest tradition in sports. Now somebody didn put up
on Twitter, it would have made a lot of sense.
Astro's playing afternoon playoff day games. That happens too. I'm
gonna go with the Rose Parade? Are you really okay?

(59:13):
I didn't think that was the greatest tradition in sports?
Which are those four? Do you want to go see? Still?
I would love to see the Masters, but I want
to walk, so I'm gonna have to skip that one.
Army Yeah, I guy like you get a cart and
drive around and go to the various holes. I'd do that.
It's not that much walking. I think you get a

(59:34):
lot of steps in for sure, should be fine. But
if you're ready to do that, I just don't love
golf enough to spend six hours walking twenty three thousand steps.
So if somebody offered you tickets to the Masters, you'd
say no, No, I would absolutely go, and I would
I would try to get a club at a corner,
just sit there. I really have you the fanciest of matts.

(59:54):
I really want to go to Kentucky Derby. Really, really,
why don't you go? It's is it difficult? Even works?
It's not difficult. It's just ridiculous expensive you'd probably have
to have if you wanted to do it. And I'm
not saying luxury, but if you wanted to have a
suit and your girl wear a nice dress and get
her a hat, and and you fly up there and
you spend two nights hotel crush like twelve minute Julips,

(01:00:15):
you're probably looking at ten thousand bucks, okay, And I
mean especially I want to go to the Kentucky Derby.
I don't want to spend ten gs on the Kentucky Derby. Well,
you have two connections in the in the horse doing
that anymore, Bragman now talking about If Braggs you're listening,
I will go with you. He'll be able to hook
you up once he gets that contract. Yes you will.

(01:00:38):
Army Navy football to me, I don't have a dog
in that fight school. It's great, but it's always usually
on like twenty three degree weather, and I don't want
to spen three and a half hours outside. Texas waldcard
game feels about right.

Speaker 7 (01:00:50):
There.

Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
There are three automatics since the show began fifteen years ago. Well,
one of them is not happening much anymore. Texas playing
in the Animal Balls No longer. Automatic guys are playing
for championships back to back final fours in the playoff
Texans three thirty games and Astros one o'clock Baseball playoff games. Yeah,
don't sleep on Texas and the way people. A couple

(01:01:13):
people have asked me on this, why does this happen?
It's about sex appeal. The Astros have been typically the
least sexy baseball team in the playoffs, especially when the
other team is in New York or Boston. It just
makes sense. Yeah, they're trying to draw in as many
casual fans as possible in these games. Houston Texans doesn't
light up the eyes of casual fans. It just doesn't.

(01:01:36):
I'm sorry. But if you win, you ultimately would because,
let's face it, man, Baltimore maybe be a bad example
because they were winning back well twenty five years ago.
The New England Patriots weren't. You know, It didn't really
move the needle. When Drew Bledsoe was the quarterback of
the Patriots. It was cool, but it wasn't like you
had to see what Patriot game is all about. He's
the winning. You had to win at a high level

(01:01:56):
for a long time since Detroit Detroit is the most
is one of the sexiest teams in the NFL right now.
But Detroit always plays at eleven third a Thanksgiving Day
because they're the least attractive of the Thanksgiving Day games.
Yeah Noways as been but now Detroit, I mean, Detroit's
big and good. Yeah, fun, So it's all about star
power and you're good and the texts been good. But

(01:02:19):
you're looking to be great, right, I mean what back
in the nine and nobody cared about Kansas City Chiefs,
not five years ago, not at all. But the reality
is in you have another team, even though it's LA.
People in LA don't care about the Chargers, No they don't.
So it's it just fits perfectly. And the Astros Tigers

(01:02:39):
World card last year. Detroit had not been the playoffs
in a long time. Astros had been there a long time.
And you've got the uh, who's who's in that? Who
is in the Wald cards that were big. I mean
it didn't really matter. Other cities are just gonna have,
you know, the Phillies, New York Chicago's are going to
have a larger national fan base than the Astros are.
Even though the Astros have had so treumendus success for

(01:03:01):
the last seven or eight years. Yes, you know, to me,
if you want to call disrespect, I guess you could.
But does it really matter?

Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
You win?

Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
You keep going, that's the most important thing. You're going
to be in primetime. Keep winning games. Like I always
said with the Cougar basketball team, if you're playing at
eleven thirty in the tournament, who cares if you're If
you're in the tournament in the bracket, you're not getting out,
things are gonna be good for you. Yeah, the final
four will be in primetime. That they will, That they
will seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven nine. If
you want to join us again, we'll get to the

(01:03:30):
Demiko availability coming up in less than ten minutes from now.
This may be a strange take for you, and I've
only got a few minutes to do this. The college
football playoff has been cool, right, Yes, I mean there
have not been nail biers. I thought the Texas game
obviously with Aaron Zoners eight was awesome. That was a
nail bier, But there have been very few that it's

(01:03:54):
been close case. Is there any thought now you're you've
got a dog in the fights. And maybe this is
the wrong person, but is there a chance these things,
these games could get swallowed up because of the NFL
playoffs are about to kick in. They're not going ahead
to head, that's true. But like I didn't know until
this morning that you guys are playing on Thursday. Well, no,
long war, it's playing on Friday. Okay, that's maybe it's

(01:04:17):
Thursday's Penn State Notre Dame. Yeah?

Speaker 7 (01:04:21):
Is there?

Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Sometimes? Are you saying perhaps it's oversaturated because there's so
many playoffs, saying that we've dreamt ROSSI of these these
amazing tournament college football games, and when they're on, we'll watch. Yes,
But I think collectively America is really trying to size

(01:04:42):
up their super Bowl bracket more than they are their
college football brand. Oh yeah, the NFL is bigger. What
do you want college to do? I don't know what
I'm saying. This is an op This is a question
that may have no answer to it. Okay, what's the question.
The question is are we going to lose that momentum
that we had with interesting games last weekend because the
NFL playoffs about the start? I guess the answer would
be If you're a college football fan, you don't care

(01:05:04):
if your NFL is going. If you're a fan of
Ohio State, you don't care. But I wonder if the
numbers will be as they lately tucked the games Thursday
and Friday, Saturday, Sunday. They're staying away from forty games
a great football hopefully. Really, I mean, for if you're
a football fan period, You've got a bunch coming up here,
a nice weekend, and then the Rockets on Saturday at

(01:05:27):
two pm against the Atlanta Hawks, So I will need
to put together my a game for that broadcast. No,
that's when you bring your D minus game, just saying
just mail it in. Oh yeah, what you're not doing
that already? That felt rude. I know you're right, that's

(01:05:47):
that's you know what. That wasn't fair. You do a
great jock, You tell me nice, You do a great job, man, fantastic, spectacular.
All right. No, I'm just saying that the college kind
of had its own little world for a while. Here's
my I guess I'm gonna give me a stupid answer
to the initial question. How about just getting everything done

(01:06:07):
before the playoffs start going rapid fire right after? Well,
maybe push the season up a little bit, maybe start
Let's see what the ratings are.

Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
Good.

Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
Yeah, they have been good. That sounds great to me. Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
Sunday all great football. Yeah, go Texas, say hook them horns,
Hook them horns. That's what I'm talking about. I want to.
I want a dog in the fight.

Speaker 7 (01:06:33):
You kidding?

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
You don't have a dog? I want.

Speaker 3 (01:06:34):
I want to.

Speaker 7 (01:06:35):
I want to ra.

Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Yeah they are they just but because your basketball team
is not gonna be great this year, No, they're admitted best.
That's fine. Yeah, French tournament team right now, Cougar's comfortably
in the three seed and South region, says bracketologists Joe,
They're already checking up on Joel and Aldi. Oh hell yeah,
really absolutely. I guess that's all your school has to
cling to.

Speaker 7 (01:06:58):
So I get it.

Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
Are you kidding me? We had one of the best
transfer portal classes in college football this year college football history,
and then why I'll take it. I just I don't
know if we're paying these guys or not. I mean
I was assuming. Yeah, you think they're all got to me?

Speaker 3 (01:07:12):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
They want to go to third ward Houston, Texas just
for fun? Hoday beautiful campus, vibrant, lush, I mean vibrating
from gunshots. That's enough from you, all right, you said
you're really nicer eleven twenty six. I'm sorry. Seven. It's
like any New Year's resolution, it takes a little time
where you just don't get to.

Speaker 7 (01:07:30):
It at all.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
So so by what February fifteenth, right, oh the way,
Happy New Year to you and happy are you? Thank
you very much seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven.
Nauty Affordable Tree Service is a company I'm very proud
to speak for because I know that some of you
are worried about your trees because of this cold weather

(01:07:51):
that we have received in the last to twenty four hours,
and we're gonna get more of it later this week.
Do me a favorite and call Affordable at seven one
three six nine nine two six six three seven one
three six nine nine two six six three. I want
you to call Martin spoon More and bug him and
tell him that I was making fun of him, and
then he'll make fun of me, and then he's going
to offer you a really good deal on a chance

(01:08:12):
to look at your trees to see exactly if they're
ready to go deep root feeding, trees, pruned, evaluated for health.
This is the time to call Martin because Franklin it's
his low season. Get to him now before he gets
the springtime and it gets really really busy. Seven one three,
six nine two six sixty three seven one three six
nine two six six three. The great people Martin Spoon

(01:08:34):
Moore a great friend of mine at Affordable Tree Service.

Speaker 8 (01:08:39):
Matt Thomas, Ross Viel It's the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
Here's Tomiko.

Speaker 16 (01:08:49):
There, he's sharpers or the matchups.

Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
What do you think of that overalls football team.

Speaker 7 (01:08:55):
As the winner? Coach?

Speaker 17 (01:08:56):
Yeah, man, we were, We're really excited about you know this,
Matt too versus the Chargers. Really well coached football team.
You can see coach harballs in print on the football
team instantly. Just how sound they are in all three phases.
Very sound football team. They can run the very very
balanced offensively, run the ball well. And of course you know,

(01:09:18):
Justin herbertus one of the better quarterbacks in the league,
and he's done a really great job. I think he's
just protecting the football right. He doesn't turn the ball
over a lot, and it's a lot to be said
for a quarterback who does that right, really puts his
team in really good situations, move down the field, good
on third down. Defensively, I think coach Mentor has done

(01:09:40):
a really good job with this team just eliminating the
deep pass. They do a really good job of, you know,
playing the shell coverages, mixing the coverages up. And this
week we gotta find number three Darren James. He's all
over the place. Talk about blitzing or blitzing safety nickel,
whatever dB position you want to call it, like during

(01:10:02):
is playing lights out. He's an impact player. We have
to have awareness for where he is at all times.
Their heads rushers also good players, been doing it for
a long time. Mac and Bosa really good tandem there
on the head. So you know, we have our hands full,
as it should be in a playoff matchup, but we're
excited to go against a really good football team.

Speaker 18 (01:10:24):
You talk about, you talked about a little back of
the game yesterday, how much what you saw yesterday really
helps you guys do some of these things you just address.

Speaker 19 (01:10:32):
It have to happen.

Speaker 17 (01:10:34):
What we did on yesterday, it was just it was
just getting back to for me, just getting back to
the basics always I said, just playing football the right
way for us, just going out and executing as I know,
I've mentioned that a lot, and that's what it looks
like when our guys do it the right way, just
eliminating negative plays, offensively, put it together, a solid drive,
moving to football and finishing with points. That's something that

(01:10:57):
we've been harping on, something we have to do better.
We were able to do that yesterday and you know,
I'm pleased with the outing that our guys had and
I thought they did a really good job there.

Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
Mio.

Speaker 15 (01:11:06):
How have you seen CJ evolved in his leadership in
his second year and do you have any examples of
how you've seen.

Speaker 19 (01:11:13):
Him maybe change or it maybe had to change on him.

Speaker 12 (01:11:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (01:11:16):
For CJ, when it comes to the leadership piece, it's
it's from CJ being authentic. Because I think everyone sees
when CJ is here and his interviews and everything, CJ
is authentic.

Speaker 7 (01:11:27):
He's real.

Speaker 17 (01:11:28):
It's not only here, it's in the locker room around
the guys. And that's what leadership is to me. Like,
as you evolved as a leader, you just be authentic
to yourself you don't have to make up anything or
make up a speech or make up something to say
to guys. You just CJ is being CJ. And that's
what our guys feed off. CJ just being himself, being

(01:11:49):
authentic as a leader, understanding that it's not all on
him right as a leader, it's all of our guys
just buying in doing what they have to do. But
also CJ understanding a lot of guys are looking up
to him on the team, and you know he takes
that role seriously, but it's it's not a heavy weight
for him, right because we have other leaders as well
around him, with Will Azse, other guys that step up.

(01:12:12):
So I'm proud to see J and how he's you know,
continued to grow as a pro and it's only his
second year and he'll continue to drive and be better,
you know, as a leader of our team.

Speaker 20 (01:12:25):
And in a similar vein you know CD play well Sunday,
how do you like where he is? Because obviously he's
been tough on himself, but how do you like where
he is playing?

Speaker 7 (01:12:36):
Wise? And as you all prepare for this match now,
we're we're all in a good spot.

Speaker 17 (01:12:39):
Man, We're ready to go play football, Like we're here,
it's the playoffs. We're ready to go play football. Just
can we be the best team on Saturday? That's all
that matters.

Speaker 7 (01:12:48):
Rows.

Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
But Herbert again, uh no, he doesn't get too much
creative art. He's running ability. I paid tayors are the
challenge you will face that.

Speaker 17 (01:12:59):
Uh what with Herbert And he's a good quarterback all around.
When it comes to for me, it starts with him
throwing the football and just the weapons that he has.
The one that sticks out to me is is McConkie, right,
the guy Georgia and he's he's an elite route runner,
very shifty, moves all over the place. You can tell

(01:13:21):
they have that instant connection between you know, mconkie and Herbert,
and it's a real connection. He's all over the field
making plays for him, catching a lot of footballs and
he's a he's a dynamic player that he has a
very bright future.

Speaker 7 (01:13:34):
In this league.

Speaker 15 (01:13:35):
In your estimation, I mean, you've been around the playoffs
in your career.

Speaker 11 (01:13:39):
Is there a different level that everyone gets to this
some of the year.

Speaker 17 (01:13:43):
At this level, of course, the intensity it picks up
right everything. Everybody understands what's what's on the line. What's
at stakes here, So the intensity definitely picks.

Speaker 7 (01:13:52):
Up and the game is sped up.

Speaker 17 (01:13:56):
It's faster, it's more physical, and that's what playoff football
all is about. So we'll of course you get you
get your opponent's best. They're gonna get our best. That's
what everybody likes to see. That's why you want to
be here this time of the year, still playing playing
playoff football.

Speaker 7 (01:14:12):
Is everything is sped up, everything.

Speaker 17 (01:14:14):
Is more physical, it's more exciting all the way across
the board.

Speaker 7 (01:14:18):
So we're excited about it. To make us a player
of your line.

Speaker 16 (01:14:22):
You talk a little about that success you guys had
yesterday knowing you're gonna have mix them back this week
obviously well, but curious also to think.

Speaker 7 (01:14:30):
That with our offensive line.

Speaker 17 (01:14:31):
I thought our guys did a good job yesterday just
when it comes to the when it came to protecting,
when they came to the run game, you know, staying
on blocks, staying attached, and then allowed us to have
some success in the run game with Joe and DP
running the football. Our old line did a really nice
job of creating some lanes there. Of course, our backs DP,
of course did a really great job playing on great

(01:14:52):
vision when the space wasn't there, he was able to
create on his own and break a really long run.
They're so proud of DP for what he was able
to do. And old line also with the protection, but
they did a really nice job of giving our quarterbacks time.
Quarterbacks stepped up in the pocket, both CJ and Davis
and made some nice players off schedule there. So I mean,

(01:15:13):
all we're hitting in the right direction. We just have
to be more consistent all the way across the board.

Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
Their offensive line, it feels like pretty good tackle duo,
probably one of the better ones you guys have faced.

Speaker 7 (01:15:22):
They pretty said interior.

Speaker 15 (01:15:24):
And seems like they've been able to get a couple
of different running backs going at different times this year.

Speaker 7 (01:15:28):
Their offensive line is one of the strengths of their team.

Speaker 17 (01:15:31):
Right started with the tackles to you know, the left
tackling right tackle. Two really good players, and we have
two good players on the edge as well. So that'll
be a matchup that I think everybody's looking forward to,
and we have to find a way to win on
the edge versus their top players. Interior wise, they also
do a good job of working together. They ran the

(01:15:51):
ball well different backs at different times and random ball. Well,
it's just it's gonna take a collective effort right all
the way across the board. For us defensively, think the
key would be our interior d lineman playing really well
versus some of the run schemes that they have.

Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
A band place and we'll see do you and CJ
and Will?

Speaker 19 (01:16:08):
Last year is the first time that y'all were in
the playoffs.

Speaker 7 (01:16:11):
What advantage do y'all? Do y'all feel more?

Speaker 2 (01:16:13):
I guess the word is comfortable heading into the playoffs
this year as compared to last year.

Speaker 17 (01:16:18):
To me, it's right here twenty twenty five. Now in
twenty twenty four, we're right now twenty twenty five. We
just focused on the present of you know, our team,
what we have here now. Last year is last year,
entirely different locker room, different group of guys, Like, how
do we make the most of our opportunity here right
now with the guys that we have. Just want our

(01:16:39):
guys to you know, really live in that moment right
of where we are right here, right now, with what
we have, Let's go make the most of it.

Speaker 11 (01:16:49):
Obviously, well how to Will had a really great rookie season,
But do you feel like having Daniel with him has
elevated his game to another level.

Speaker 10 (01:16:57):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (01:16:57):
Will's definitely had an outstand in the year this year
as well. He's gotten better, probably double his production he's
and he's gotten so much better run game, pass game
just overall, Like to take the leap that he's taking
his second year has been really impressive to see him,
you know, take that leap and he's a dynamic player,

(01:17:18):
for an impact player, for his leader, like everything you want.
And I think Danil has definitely helped him, you know,
having Danil and just their relationship, their bond and what
Will was able to learn from Danil.

Speaker 7 (01:17:30):
When it came to just that I think at the
top of the rush, like.

Speaker 17 (01:17:33):
That moment of truth, being able to find ways to
escape and finish on the quarterback. And I think having
Danil here to have another guy to listen to along
with Coach Rod and coach Native doing an outstanding job
all the way across the board.

Speaker 7 (01:17:48):
Our entire d Lion has done a great job.

Speaker 17 (01:17:50):
Then the strength of our defense this year, and proud
of all the guys, coaches and the players, they've all
done a really great job.

Speaker 21 (01:17:57):
So ye oh, last year, you all, you know, had
the success that you all had, and some people, you
know wasn't expecting that, especially with what the franchise has
been through the previous three years, and so you all
were learning to deal with that, you know, as far
as what came with that success this year hitting into
the playoffs, you all came in into this season expecting

(01:18:17):
to be you know, where you.

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
Are on the trajectory that you all are.

Speaker 21 (01:18:20):
How are your younger players dealing with that now and
their mindset hitting into this second year as far as
going into the other.

Speaker 7 (01:18:27):
Playoffs in the mindset of our our young guys, like
they just want to play.

Speaker 17 (01:18:32):
They love playing football, all right, And that's that's how
I like them. Like their mentality is is straightforward, like,
let's get to it, what's the next opponent, what's the
game playing, Let's go to work.

Speaker 7 (01:18:42):
And that's how I want our guys to be.

Speaker 17 (01:18:44):
It's just laser focused on what matters right now, right
and we'll have guys who have experience in the playoffs
guys who don't have experience. At the end of the day,
for me, when the ball is snap, like are you
doing your job or are you not? Are you playing
with the tenents, relentless mindset or not, like that's what matters, right,
and our young guys, older guys, it doesn't matter. Our

(01:19:06):
team collectively. We have to play complimentary football. Everybody has to.
We have to play smart football, eliminate mistakes right and
play together and that'll be that'll be good enough for us.

Speaker 11 (01:19:18):
You're kind of find with a fresh start forgetting about
last year and just living in the moment now. Is
that also kind of applied to this just completed regular season,
how we got here, what it did and all that
kind of just we're here now, let's go play.

Speaker 17 (01:19:30):
Yeah, we're here now, let's go play for me? Like
nothing else matters, right, It's how you're playing right now?
Are you playing your best ball going into the playoffs?
Like that's what matters most, right? And are you able
to consistently keep up with that when you are in
the playoffs?

Speaker 7 (01:19:48):
Can you continue to play goodball?

Speaker 17 (01:19:49):
Can you continue to play the game the right way,
not make silly mistakes? Can you put yourself in favorite positions?
Can we you know, get better scoring in the red zone,
defend in the red zone, those situational elements of the game,
third down, red area, those other areas where we have
to be really good at here in the in the
playoffs because you know, good teams aren't gonna make mistakes.

Speaker 7 (01:20:12):
You have to find a way to beat them later.

Speaker 19 (01:20:15):
Last year, Uh, you have Pop Slow involved in the
highering cycle with and then pushed by the Jets.

Speaker 7 (01:20:22):
Every single girl.

Speaker 19 (01:20:22):
As a coach, and obviously think not every season is
as smooth as last year. Where do see him deal
with helps and downs in the season.

Speaker 7 (01:20:28):
Yeah, I don't know if any season it's smooth, right.

Speaker 17 (01:20:30):
You have a lot of ups and downs, even you
know when you win and kind of those things kind
of going to the rug.

Speaker 7 (01:20:36):
But they're ups and downs. As coaches and as coaches
you have to grow and evolved.

Speaker 17 (01:20:42):
You have to do things different and sometimes you set
out to do or you have a mindset of doing
things one particular way, and you always have to kind
of tweak those things and do what's best for the
guys that you have and what they're capable of doing.
So I see where I think Bobby has definitely growing
up in the area of being able to adjust and

(01:21:03):
put our guys in position to where they can be successful.

Speaker 18 (01:21:07):
People always say that in football's a game of pitchers,
but against the playoffs help slim of those margins, and
in what.

Speaker 20 (01:21:13):
Ways, like are are the details even that much more important.

Speaker 7 (01:21:19):
At this level? Right?

Speaker 17 (01:21:20):
If you make a mistake like it can cost you
it being every game. It's sort of like that, but
here in the playoffs even much so, because even more
so because right, all the teams that are here they
deserve to be here, right, and they wouldn't be here
if they weren't good teams. So if you give good
teams like more opportunities to go score, they're gonna find
a way to score. So you cannot have, right, the

(01:21:42):
mental mistakes here in the playoffs, right, you cannot have
the penalties like all those things where field position is
definitely a huge battle and we have to win that
field position battle eating every game, and it's even more
paramount now. But it's just a matter of being on
the details, man, being confident in what we're doing, and
go and play.

Speaker 2 (01:22:06):
Deontay, you saw we saw a little bit from yesterday.

Speaker 18 (01:22:08):
How confident you think he can really help you guys
this week and you think he can.

Speaker 17 (01:22:14):
Be more a part of what happens on day Deontay,
I was really impressed with his last week of practice.

Speaker 7 (01:22:19):
I thought he picked up on the things we were
asking him to do.

Speaker 17 (01:22:22):
I thought he really has really nice catches, nice plays
throughout practice, and he got in the game. We were
able to get him a little involved in the game
as well, and I thought he handled himself really well.
We'll start to continue to feed him more, see how
he can help us. Uh, the skill set, the talent
is there is just a matter of him just integrated
into our offense and making sure, you know, we put

(01:22:42):
him in positions to where we can accentuate his talents
because he's a talented player. He's made a ton of
players in his league and it's excited to see what
he's able to do on the practice field. So excited
to see that come to life and on game day.
So he's done a great job. Happy to work with Deontay.
He's been a pleasure to.

Speaker 20 (01:23:01):
Work with players who like choose to do their rehab here,
who are on the on the yard and I'm thinking
of guy like Jalen Petrie in what ways do they
help and are still part of the team even though
they can't really go.

Speaker 17 (01:23:15):
Yeah, Jalen has done a great job of just being
around each and every day Like even though he has
rehab and all those things, Jalen is still in our meetings,
he's out at practice like he he cares, like he's involved,
he wants to help other guys. And you know, it
just speaks to who Jalen is as a man and
why he's our Walter Payton Man of the Year recipient

(01:23:37):
because he's just it's bigger than football than.

Speaker 7 (01:23:40):
Him, like he wants.

Speaker 17 (01:23:41):
He has that heart to help others, not only here
in the building when he can't go out and physically
play like he has the heart to help others in
the community as well with the Mills program that he's
helping his kids with and here in Houston. So man,
I'm just happy to have Jalen around. Love having him around.
You can't have enough special people around. Jalen is one
of those special young men that I love. Love the

(01:24:04):
coach job.

Speaker 21 (01:24:06):
Coach, A lot of your colleagues, now former colleagues, are
you know, losing their jobs.

Speaker 2 (01:24:13):
You know at the end of the regular season.

Speaker 21 (01:24:14):
We all know that this day comes, but for you
to it something even after one year, how hard is
it to have the type of success and be the
type of coach that you are in those first two years,
knowing that that window is so shortened.

Speaker 17 (01:24:28):
And for me, Man, just look at every day as
a blessing and I attack it that way, like I'm
grateful for the opportunity I have to serve here with
the Texans.

Speaker 7 (01:24:38):
I'm grateful for the people that I get to work with.

Speaker 17 (01:24:40):
I think that's that's what makes it even better, is
just the people, right, the players and staff and support staff, ownership,
just everybody being on the same page, right, it helps
like us move in a direction where we want to
go right and let's continue to progress, continue to move
an organization forward. And that's everybody on the same page.

(01:25:00):
So I'm happy to work with the people I work with,
and they understand our business, understand how tough it is
to be successful each and every year in this league.
So I never take it for granted, right, And I'm
thankful for our guys and their attitude and for them
the way they work. Anything I ask those guys to do,
they're about it. So that's what makes it easy for me.

(01:25:23):
And Man, it's a blessing to be a head coach
of the NFL football team.

Speaker 7 (01:25:29):
And I never lose sight of that.

Speaker 17 (01:25:30):
Never lose a sight of how hard it is to
be successful. It's I'm fortunate when you see guys lose
their jobs, and also I think unfortunate part about it
is also you just see it's almost like everybody's waiting
to see what happens like that. That's kind of a
little upsetting to me, like if you're kind of hanging
or hanging around waiting.

Speaker 7 (01:25:51):
To see something bad that happens to someone else.

Speaker 17 (01:25:54):
But I have to think about the families they're involved,
not only the head coach, but the other coaches who
are on staff.

Speaker 7 (01:26:00):
Kids who are in school.

Speaker 17 (01:26:02):
It's bigger than just oh, this coach got fired and
that's the news cycle and let's keep it moving. Like
I think about the families who are affected by those moves,
and it is deeper than just the head coach moving
on and you get someone else. All right, thank you guy.

Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
All right. There is some thoughts. It sounds like, uh,
Demico Ryan's cup is half full, giving lots of respect
to the Chargers. Are you surprised by any of that? No,
I mean he's he's been media trained. You know, they're
a media professional out there that train coaches. Okay, there's
also people that train that say their media trainers, they

(01:26:42):
have like forty five years on their YouTube page. All right,
so we'll break it down next. Are you okay? What's
wrong with you? Let's go. We got two hours left
to go seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven. Honey, ROSSI,

(01:27:02):
we have some rockets breaking news. Okay, We're gonna save
it for the news at noon.

Speaker 7 (01:27:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:27:08):
Sure, Why don't you know when we come back? Well
for thirty second segment, we go, hey, hey, hey, seven
one three two one two five seven unties, So let's
check with all the with all the Domico checkpoints. Next,
Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 8 (01:27:20):
Nunty More Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
Stand by, we will be having some I mean, I
wouldn't say significant rock rocket breaking news, but something that
will I think you know what we'll do. We'll lead
it off with the news at noon. We don't want
to tease that long. Sometimes you can tease too long
and then you know, wind up getting all flustered. Unless
you're George Taylor's friend, not even see you're in. You're

(01:27:52):
dangling bait and I'm not taking it Matt, you need to.
I'm good. I'm not gonna dangle as much bait as
I have in the past. See them stayed away. I
am staying so far away, okay. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one

(01:28:13):
two five seven The News and Nudes coming up twelve thirty.
We'll have to tell the truth and then Ross and
Friends at one o'clock. Oh yeah, Dan, if you're inst listening,
come on in. Todd Rice University seven ninety at eleven
fifty six Todd, Good afternoon or good morning, that.

Speaker 7 (01:28:35):
Is what's up. Thanks for having me, guys.

Speaker 18 (01:28:37):
Sure, it's always a pleasure.

Speaker 2 (01:28:40):
Thank you.

Speaker 16 (01:28:42):
I just had a question about like at the end
of the game when we're on the fifteen yard line
and we don't go for the touchdown or field goal,
just like you know, they're wearing our jerseys, Like why
wouldn't we try to? Like why can't they already went there?

Speaker 7 (01:28:59):
Why can't we go there?

Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
Because the current players and the coaches don't care. It's
it's it's just a folly. There's nothing, there's nothing to it.
There's nothing that resonates with anybody wearing either one of
the uniforms that says we owe them an extra beat down.
They just don't care.

Speaker 16 (01:29:16):
I think, I just I think I just got called old.

Speaker 2 (01:29:20):
Well, I mean I wouldn't I wouldn't call you out,
but indirectly I would. No, I don't, you know, they
just don't care. The you know, the you know, the
number one thing that though you had. Here's what Here's
what yesterday's game was, todd It was a bunch of
young guys on both teams getting playing time they normally
wouldn't get so they can prove that they're worthy of
coming back next year or maybe going somewhere else. And

(01:29:41):
it was an opportunity for the veterans to play a
little bit before you know, the textans started playing in
the playoffs. And then third, it was don't get hurt
so you don't have long season ending injuries and or
long rehabilitation offseason. So in terms of the minutia of
the x's and o's and play calling and what sh
have been called or what not should have been called,

(01:30:02):
I don't care because the Titans don't have a future
at quarterback at this point unless woo Levis has an
amazing offseason, which you know, Thomas Sports Enterprises remains bullishan.
They've got a decent running back but can't stay healthy.
They've got a decent front seven for the Titans. The
Texans have got a major overhaul coming up this year
off season because they're gonna have to fix the offensive line.

(01:30:24):
They're gonna have to get wide receiver depth. There just
wasn't much to the game that had had a lot
of sticking points to it.

Speaker 12 (01:30:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (01:30:32):
No, I just have a lot of animosity.

Speaker 2 (01:30:35):
So yeah, me too. As I grew up an older
and as I said before.

Speaker 16 (01:30:39):
Time, I use the word minutia.

Speaker 2 (01:30:41):
Oh, I'm a huge fan of the word manusia. Thanks Tall.
I do love the I do love the uniforms. They're fine.
I don't like them as much as I used to.
I mean, they're just they've soured it, they've ruined it. Yeah,
Amy kronk Strunk, has I really would? You know how
you're talking about stepping back? Yes, I'm gonna step back. Good.

(01:31:05):
I'm proud of you. Matt not say a word about
her winning on the field. Yeah, Trump's revenge yeah yeah,
And you can change the logo all you want. You
went three and with a three and fourteen. Yeah, I mean,
and I'll hope you enjoy that I got the number
one overall pick in a draft that quarterbacks aren't number one? Correct?

(01:31:26):
Is Shuder Sanders going number one?

Speaker 11 (01:31:29):
Thing?

Speaker 2 (01:31:29):
I don't think you first thing? They always say this.
It feels like we're we often talk about quarterbacks like
it's not a good quarterback draft. And then and then
they end up going two or in the two or
three in the in the first round. Superl Yeah, all right,
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven. Ainty? How the
Rockets do last time against the Lakers? And there was

(01:31:51):
a little bit of a roster shake up. We'll tell
you about that as part of the news at noon,
and after I tell you about the folks at the
Shell Federal Credit Union. How about starting the new year

Speaker 1 (01:32:39):
Lunchtimers, this is the Matt Thomas Show, twelve o.

Speaker 2 (01:32:44):
Two at Ain't Shaw. What's happening at lunch? Timer is
walking to the third hour of four of the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. This is Sports Talk seven ninety
where every day at twelve or thereabouts, we present to
you the main headlines of the world of sports and
sometimes things off the beaten path. We go to the
news center for the news at noon, and the man
presenting that news to you our good friend. He is

(01:33:06):
the Edward Murrow of sports journalism in Houston. He actually
has a row radio job as compared to a YouTube channel.
It's Ross. All right, Matt, thank you for the news
at noon. We'll go to some breaking news out of Houston.
That's one is this a tour. It's two Max, let's

(01:33:26):
go to let's give it a second one. What you
got Rockets. Number three overall pick, Reid Shepherd has been
assigned to their G League affiliate, the Rio Grand Valley Vipers.
We asked coach about this last week. He said, everything

(01:33:47):
has been discussed on the table. Seemed like it was
in the works with him not playing at all the
last few games, or really it was in garbage time
I think is the only time he had been getting
in So reed Shreppard struggling in a Rocket you uniform
now sent to the G League to get some seasoning. Yeah,
it's it's d MPCDS is what it's been. Yeah, And

(01:34:08):
if he's gonna get his jump shot back, you might
as well doing it on a court against live competition.
It just once again shows your ROSSI and it's every
case is different because Victor woman Yama has played immediately
and was number one pick, and he's a different cross Shepherd.
But it just shows you even top five selections because
Reid was what three, Yes, it was also in one
of the weakest drafts of all time. According to pundits,

(01:34:31):
that is true that draft status does not matter. It's
playing time and being able to get in a rotation.
And at this point this season, read Shepherd has been
unable to get into the Rocket rotation and they need
a jump shooter that's knowing fans or bouts about that.
Thirty games four read Shepherd averaging just three points per game,
averaging just over eleven minutes per game, and shooting a

(01:34:51):
twenty seven point from three in a small sample size.
And you know what, if this team looks like the
game's too fast for him, looks like a deer in
the headlights too often, I don't know if the physicality
and the speed is kind of just a little too
much for him to handle. Going down to the G
League will be good for him. You'll learn a lot more.

(01:35:12):
I like to pick when it was made. We'll see
what happens. They loved the pick when it was made.
They just did. And they thought this is this They
didn't want to trade out of it. They wanted to
This is their guy all along because this Rocket team
needs permanter help and they would have thought he was
going to be the guy to do it. At this point,
it has not happened, doesn't mean it's not going to happen, right,
but you have just you've given him small opportunities. And frankly,

(01:35:33):
at this point, Aaron Holliday and Jay Shawn Tait and
who else has kind of taken play time. And Thompson,
I mean, can't take him off. He's still twenty years old.
So we'll see Aaron Holliday does a good job in
his stead as a kind of a backup point guard. Right, So,
as long as you're you're healthy with Fred van Vliet
and I'man Thompson and Aaron Holliday, Rocket's still going to

(01:35:54):
be a good spot at the we call it the
big league club. We don't call it the minor leagues
in the big leagues. What do we call it? Just
the G league in the NBA? Yeah, okay, you know
out on the UK. Yeah, And well, Reed Shepherd, wishing
you the best in the Rio Grand. It doesn't be
very long, I mean, you know, it doesn't you know,
Like now, Wimar went down for a month and he's

(01:36:15):
playing well, speaking of he's yeah, I think he's cooled
a little bit the last couple of days, but generally
speaking his return has been very successful, that's right. Yeah,
he's been pretty good, especially as a bench scorer. Keeping
with the Rockets, they beat the Lakers last night one
nineteen to one fifteen, Jalen Green leading the way with
thirty three points. A Men Thompson with an awesome evening

(01:36:36):
as well. Not only did he have twenty three points
and sixteen rebounds, playing really good defense. Here's what Lebron
James had to say, not only about Amen Thompson, but
auser as well, saying they are simply just built different.

Speaker 18 (01:36:50):
I mean you've seen his brother. I think that was
that yesterday's game or did four? Yeah, they just they Uh.
I think Kate Cunningham said it best. He said they different.
It ain't like the rest of us, you know. And
I've been able to do some things in my career
and those two guys, man, they're just pure athleticism. They

(01:37:10):
love a game, and you love U see.

Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
That pure athleticism and they love the game, says Lebron
James about the Thompson Twins.

Speaker 7 (01:37:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:37:22):
I don't know much about Auscar because I haven't seen
him playing against the Rockets very much. Grant, we don't
pay much attention to the Detroit Pistons, but I think
both guys have been pretty good. I think Frankly, Amend's
probably been a little higher rady because of fact this
that he's been more able to play. I know Auscer's
had some blood clot issues or whatever, but yeah, Men's
been playing well. And yeah, I Men has been putting
up a lot more points than Ausar Thompson right now,

(01:37:43):
Auscer averaging seven point four points per game. Not starting
a whole lot over there, but a man also hasn't
been with except with injuries. Okay, of course you have
the Texans in action this weekend against the Los Angeles
Chargers where they are three point point dogs. Right now,
it is the three thirty Saturday start. It is Texans time,

(01:38:05):
as we're gonna call it. On this show. C J
Stroud talking about the ups and downs this season and
how it's getting him ready for this next playoff run.

Speaker 22 (01:38:14):
Yeah, sure, you know those adversities and those top diversity
hard times definitely, you know, build those collises.

Speaker 7 (01:38:21):
And you know, we've played really.

Speaker 22 (01:38:23):
Well against some of the best teams in the league
and just haven't finished the right way.

Speaker 7 (01:38:26):
So and you know, I think we we give our we.

Speaker 22 (01:38:30):
Give ourselves our best op by just playing Texan brand football.
And so you know, those those trials and tribulations definitely
are gonna help, in.

Speaker 2 (01:38:37):
My opinion, the adversity helping the Texans this weekend. Trying
to go on, please Chargers, I didn't say that for
the nine time. Every team has adversity, every single one
of them. It's pet and others. Yeah, that's my point.
Isn't no one's adversity free? Can you name? I get

(01:39:00):
you know what this Kansas city had adversary this year?
Maybe the Chiefs are adversity free. I don't know adversity.
I don't know. Travis Kelsey being old, but would you
see his brother's TV show yet? Jason? Yeah, he's on
late night TV.

Speaker 16 (01:39:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
Last week Hybrid Sports? Is it sports or slash Enter? Yeah,
it's like Jimmy fallon of sports? Basically what channel is
it on ESPN really every night? I don't know. It
was the debut last week. I didn't catch it. Yeah, okay,
I mean I'm sure it's I'm sure it's amazing. Uh

(01:39:37):
More on CJ Shroud, What have they learned from the
last year that is going to help them this year
in the playoffs?

Speaker 22 (01:39:44):
I mean, really, just you know, every play it matters.
I mean, it's really the same even during the regular seasons.
It's more amped up. Definitely douring playoffs just because case
are playing harder. You know, it's a lot on the line,
and you know, the main thing is just every play
not going forward, you know, not taking anything back. But
even when things and you know, just you know, staying positive.
You know, that's something I'll learned from last year.

Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
Some slight line movement at least on ESPN. Betman, it
was it three earlier today now down to Chargers two
and a half. Huh. I don't think generally speaking, anybody cares.
My gut feeling is Chargers as of right now. Yeah,
and you'll have flight change. More on that coming up
the until the tree. And pessimistic to start the week,

(01:40:25):
and then I wret myself into optimism by the end
of the week that there's nothing they could have done
yesterday that would make you think any differently except for
it's you can go to the easy to use. It's
a brand new season, and the Texans generally speaking, have
played to their higher level at home.

Speaker 7 (01:40:45):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:40:46):
The Baltimore game is different, but the Buffalo game was
a high water mark. The Tennessee loss and the Baltimore
loss is low for them. They didn't you know, Detroit
was another game they could have won. I don't know.
I get yeah, I think it's too early to be
sitting there going it's a done deal. But I think
first gut feelings on this are pretty much gonna stick.

(01:41:08):
The rest of the week could be wrong, all right, Matt.
Let's go around the NFL a little bit. Here. The
Jacksonville Jaguars firing Doug Peterson, head coach, as I mean,
the owner Shad Cohn, talking about how he was going
to lead them into the new era at the beginning
of the season, Trevor Lawrence gonna make the leap, and

(01:41:29):
well it didn't happen this year, as he has now
been fired. Also Brian Dabole, and is it Joe Shane
I think the general manager of the Giants is going
to stay in place. And also in the AFC South
Chris Ballard and Shane Steichen staying in Indianapolis. They're both

(01:41:52):
gonna get gone if they don't make the playoffs next year, right,
I mean, it's a long run for the coltstet. I
have a conspiracy theory about the Indianaois cults. My conspiracy
theory because jim Irsay was tweeting so much about quarterbacks
before the draft when they drafted Anthony Richardson two years ago.

(01:42:12):
I think my conspiracy theory is that jim Ersay pushed
really hard for Anthony Richardson and said, if you take them,
I'm gonna take care of you guys. You're gonna be fine.
The results haven't been what they wanted. Anthony Richardson hasn't
been developed, So Jim Mersey's taking the hits and he's
letting those guys keep their jobs for the time being
because that with Anthony Richardson was his pick.

Speaker 7 (01:42:33):
Believe me or.

Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
Not, would is seventy something year old owner go tell
the general manager what to do? Absolutely, jim irsay. Jim
Irsay would actually absolutely tell them what to do. Okay,
jim Irsay. Falling in love with somebody with the athletic
traits of Anthony Richardson could throw the ball a mile,
can run, can do it all, can can as far

(01:42:55):
as the the athletic profile of somebody built out of
a lab, but unfortunately only the accuracy has been an
issue for him, and that was the issue he had
coming out of college. So maybe these college scouts do
know what they're talking about. Sometimes they do. But Josh Allen,
I think was the Josh Allen the example of somebody
who was extremely inaccurate that has improved a bunch. And

(01:43:17):
that brings me to Matt Who do you have for
the NFL MVP? Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, certainly the leaders,
some people thinking Joe Burrow, but they didn't even make
the playoffs. Sekwon Barkley on some other's ballot move. By
the way, did you think what are you think about
them resting him and not getting a chance to get
the rushing record? No problem, I agree, you need practical

(01:43:39):
record anyways. Yeah, it's seventeen seventeen games they didn't count.
You do in six sixteen. We'll call it to day.
I agree, totally agree. Still yards per game. The far
and away leader in a single season is is O. J.
Simpson And what he did in that seventy three it
was fourteen games. Yeah, yeah, fourteen games in the seventy
three or whenever he did it, Eric Dick and taking

(01:44:00):
a lot of jabs and then had to kind of
backtrack on a little bit. He said he didn't want
to see him break the record. I don't see why
is that a problem. Yeah, if I have a record,
I don't want you to break my record. Now wait
a minute. I well, I agree with you on that.
We do make fun of the seventy two Dolphins every
year when they always have a champagne toast. Now granted
they were like three guys left from left and coherent,

(01:44:21):
it's probably not a champagne. It's more like tap yoga pudding.
At this point. Huh Hey, they crack open and insure
they're not sponsoring. Oh I'm sorry, I'm binge burr anything
on the off the beaten track. No, all right, that's
there's a noon. We got to tell the truth at
bottom of the hour. Can't wait? Seven one three two
one two five seven. Honey, I'm gonna ask a question

(01:44:41):
right now to the audience. What's your first blush? Now
you have a poll question about the Texans and Chargers.
What I did. We'll get an answer on that, we
come back, okay. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero one on once again reminds you about two
creeks crossing resort where you can get forty percent off

(01:45:01):
a cabin rental today at Two Creeks Crossing Resort. It's
about ninety minutes from downtown Houston up near Lake Livingston.
Very comfortable. They've got these beautiful waterfront cabins. They've got
glamping tents, they've got yurts, they've got all shapes and
sizes with the modern amenities like televisions and full kitchens
and Wi Fi. And then you go to the resort

(01:45:22):
area where there's a catch and release pond, there's pickleball courts,
there's workout facilities, there's a place where you can clean
your clothes, high speed Wi Fi. They've got a great
little area with ice cream and popcorn always available. It's
really a great place for the entire family to go
spend two three nights to get outside, enjoy the fresh air,
and get away from the hustle and bustle of city
of life. If you want to go for one night,

(01:45:43):
you can do that as well. Right now. Forty percent
off the cabin rentals, twenty percent off the RV site rentals.
If you have an RV you want to drop it
off there, you can do that at Two Creeks Crossing Resort.

Speaker 8 (01:46:04):
More Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
Twelve nineteen On Sports Talk seven ninety is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. All Right, ROSSI our gut feelings.
We'll save for tomorrow, and you have one including the Rockets,
that I cannot wait for. Okay, it'll be tomorrow eleven
thirty wonderful. Right now, I would have to say I
don't feel great about the Texans chances against the Chargers.

(01:46:51):
Chargers are playing significantly better. I don't count. I'm about
care about what count what happened yesterday. But I do
believe there's home field can make a difference. And the
last time the Texans had a Saturday home playoff game,
they disposed of the Cleveland Browns and kicked some serious ass.
Yes then went to Baltimore and was done pretty quick.

(01:47:14):
The Texans have the better defense, Chargers have the better offense,
So it evens out, and you're going to need to
be loud Saturday at three thirty loud and proud to
make it difficult for Justin Herbert to hear himself think,
and maybe I'm feeling an under on this game. What's
the point number? Thirty three and a half?

Speaker 7 (01:47:35):
I think?

Speaker 2 (01:47:35):
Okay, so could it be? Could it be a twenty
three to seventeen game? Sure? Could absolutely. I don't think
thirty one to twenty four is in the in the
range you never know, you never know in the NFL. Oh,
how's your poul? Question him? By the way, I don't
like to you've any run on your Twitter camp because
it's largely meaningless r V I was getting a lot
of run over the weekend. Were five people? No, I

(01:47:59):
don't know. People liked my Oilers tweet fourteen hundred likes.
Appreciate you people, we got fourteen hunt What did you say?
I said, Imagine spending the time decorating your entire stadium
with Houston Oilers logos and colors and donning their uniforms
back to back years just to lose to Case Kanem
and Davis Mills, Losers Nashville and Amy Strunk Adams Adams

(01:48:23):
Strunk whatever her name is anyways, Yeah, I call every
name I have Zeropet for her pole question at sports
RV the Los Angeles Chargers minus three at the Houston
Texans fifty eight percent. Now, of course, selection bias, as
they call it, I have a lot of Houston people
following me. Oh you think percent picking the Houston Texans

(01:48:45):
at the moment. Although the first reply and only reply
is Tesla bus driver sus Texans lose by thirty. That's
not come on, Tesla bus driver. That's a little stiff.
That's a little too harsh. I'll take the Texas plus
thirty plus three. I'll let you know it Friday. But
wait a minute, your battle red I am. That's not

(01:49:06):
field goal. Say no, that's just the coin flip. Just
because I'm a fan of a team does not mean
I have to be a blind homer for that. Oh
oh yes it does. I know it does for some people,
including people to my left and their Cougar brethren. But no,
I don't have to be a blind homer. I can
be objective, okay, I mean I can put I put

(01:49:27):
a slant on things. If the glass is half full
rather than half empty, I can do that. But I'm
not going to be a blind homer. I remember We've
be wearing lots of gear and bling that has your
name draped all over a cowboy hat on Saturday. Yeah. No,
all right, I don't even know what I'm doing for
the game yet. Should we have a watch party?

Speaker 7 (01:49:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
Where you want to go? I'm gonna be in Atlanta.
You can watch it with me at the Rockets Hawks game,
Magic City. Let's go. Don't have the game on? Oh
for sure?

Speaker 7 (01:49:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:49:56):
They great wings, Lemon Pepper, says hu Wlliams. Eyes aren't
bad either. Connor's chuckling back there, but the key to
a chuckle is to follow it up with the with
the rent with a rim shot, and I got to
get one ready. We need more production value in this show.

(01:50:16):
Do you hear that? Connor? The most demanding show on this.

Speaker 3 (01:50:21):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
I could just shake my head indifference, but I want.
I want the show to be better than ever. You're
you're right, you know what, You're trying to be as
strong as ever in our sixteenth years? Yeah, sixteen years sixteen? O. Man,
you're telling me you've done okay for yourself.

Speaker 7 (01:50:37):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (01:50:37):
You've traveled from sea to shining sea. I'm very happy.
Day to day, I would say for the most part,
I could be happier. How can I do? You know
what the key to those things are? Timing? You just
want more money. Everybody wants more money. I didn't say that.
You hear that. iHeart parent company. He's not just an employee.
ID He's a real human being. Oh, come on, next thing?

(01:51:00):
We know will be doing shows all around the country
and maybe even at least a state. Who never knows?
You never know. I'm in contract negotiations with Manhattan, Kansas
right now? Are you really wildcat? Wildcat talk? KK s U.
I don't do too many k's there, Matthew. You know relax. Well,
it's funny because University in or Texas, Yes, Green Wave.

(01:51:24):
You can't use their letters meing Green Eagles. You can't
use their letters to represent the radio station because then
that would really get you in trouble. Why not Kate
in tu that's good? What's wrong? It's University in or Texas? Yeah,
what's wrong with that? Seven mm hmm? It's k West

(01:51:51):
Mississippi seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
You're trying to get yourself in trouble or trying to
get me in trouble. It's not gonna have AWAYI is
west of the missus. A's a heritage station. We're getting
too inside, Yeah we are. We're waiting too inside baseball.
Come on now, Well these colors, all these Texans calls
calling in. That's the reason why I ramped up this weekend.

(01:52:14):
Liberty White, Matt will be ready. Uh yeah, I mean
I look for us. So your oilers are dead, Matt,
there are. I told you when I would what I
would do to join the Saints, right, No, I thought
i'd go to the Texans once that got super Bowl,
But since that's ever going to happen, I don't think
next year you promise? No, Well how about that? What

(01:52:36):
do I do with this? I got Texans twenty seven
to one to win the super Bowl last April. I
still have the ticket. Why not to light that bad
boy on fire? How much you spend you want to
tell us? Yeah, this is twenty seven bucks. It was
whatever I had left in the kiosk Okay, so it's
got a decent payoff for you. Yeah. I love for
you to catch that. I think I get like seven
hundred bucks. And I do you have a photo of it? No? No,

(01:52:59):
you try to steal my code. No, I'm saying you
should put a photo a photo of it up there
and win me six hundred and seventy five dollars. That's
not terrible. But they have to win the Super Bowl. Oh,
not even get to it. They have to win the
whole thing.

Speaker 7 (01:53:11):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:53:11):
Once they lose, I'm gonna do it again. I'm going
back un till they win a Super Bowl. Every year.
I'm betting them on the future. I'm not a big
futures bet guy, but I will say this. I think
I'm gonna go this year like I did last year
and pick five teams to win the NCAA basketball Championship.
That did okay for me. I want a little bit
of money on Yukon. It wasn't a great they were

(01:53:31):
the favorites, but they did okay. Don't bet on the Longhorns.
Don't worry.

Speaker 3 (01:53:35):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
Did you watch this game on Saturdays?

Speaker 7 (01:53:38):
I did?

Speaker 11 (01:53:39):
You?

Speaker 2 (01:53:39):
Did yell and anybody throw things against the wall. I
wasn't happy. That was an abysmal performance from the five
star scouring. You're enjoying the A and m Texas renewed
relationship in what way? Just it's good to be playing
each other. It means. Let me tell you, it means
I haven't thought about them at all since it's I've

(01:54:00):
been locked in on place. You're just bitter. That's terrible.
I mean, Texas playing A and M is significantly better
than Texas playing Kansas State. It just is. Yeah, Kansas State. Sure,
I've been focused on playoff stuff, Matt. I've been thinking
about that, just generally on the Texas right now, rooting
against him every week. Were you happy they played football
with each other this year?

Speaker 7 (01:54:21):
Yeah? It was fun.

Speaker 2 (01:54:22):
It was a good game. I was across the country, so,
I mean across the world. Yeah, you get to really
sink your teaving. I watched the game in the bed
of my hotel room streaming.

Speaker 5 (01:54:34):
How is this?

Speaker 1 (01:54:35):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (01:54:36):
How was this?

Speaker 2 (01:54:36):
Was there streaming issue? So the internet pretty good over there?
That's fine, Yes, Matt, they have internet and other places
in the world. I mean, actually South Korea has the
fastest internet on the planet. Really, Yes, the show from there,
we could coverage you all right, twelve twenty seven. We're
gonna play to Tell the Truth next now, Just so
you guys know, I believe three of the four of them. Okay,

(01:54:58):
So if I believe three of them, I don't believe
how many ross one, so which one of the four takes?
While I tell you about when coming back? Do I
believe not to be true? To tell the truth is
coming up? After I tell you about Big City Wings.

Speaker 8 (01:56:16):
Back to battle Red Ross and Liberty White Ass Matt Thomas.

Speaker 2 (01:56:23):
This is what I am, real Pale.

Speaker 10 (01:56:25):
Texas Talk continues on The Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
What I Ladies and gentlemen, It's time for us to play,

(01:56:55):
to tell the truth and Monday feature normally at eleven thirty,
but since we had Tomko at eleven thirty one, push
it here to twelve thirty two. Thank you very much
for listening to Sports Talk seven Ounty and The Matt
Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one two
five seven Ounty seven one three two one two five
seven Honty, gentlemen, I have four takes, three of which
I believe one I do not Which one of these
four takes do I not believe Number one? It's gonna

(01:57:20):
be a one and done for the Texans this Saturday.
They're going to lose the Los Angeles Chargers. Uh, it'll
be a close game. I could go down to the
final five minutes. But I think the Chargers are used
to not playing in front of a home crowd, so
being on the road would be no big deal to them.
I think they're a more complete team. I do believe

(01:57:40):
the Texans offensive line is going to continue to give
UH CJ some issues, and maybe Ross something you said
a few weeks ago, has got some more credence to it.
Maybe CJ is just really banged up and bruised and
it's just not one hundred percent and hasn't played that
way for a better part of six weeks. Okay, Okay,
So I got the Texans Number one, Texans losing to
the Chargers on seven. Number two my Super Bowl prediction.

(01:58:03):
I've thought about this for many, many many hours. Now,
Goodles it was uh Bengals Eagles. I think, Okay, we're
moving forward. Oh involving teams that are still in Super
Sunday is going to feature I think a ridiculously sexy
matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the Detroit Lions. Okay,

(01:58:24):
I have Ravens and Lions and the Super Bowl? Sure,
why not? Number three? If I were the Patriots of
the Jaguars, I would look to what is happening in
Kansas City for a coach getting a rebirth and thinking
the same thing should be done with those teams. I'll explain.

(01:58:45):
I think Mike Tomlin's best days is Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh
are numbered in terms of maybe just wanting to get
out and try something different. Like Ady Reid left Philadelphia
right away to go to Kansas City. In Philadelphia, he did, yes,
but there are talks that my Tomlin could be available
for trade. If I was the New England Patriots, the
Jacksonville Jaguars and I wanted to establish immediate credibility, I'm

(01:59:10):
going to trade a draft pick or a couple of
them to the Steelers for Mike Tomlin. Okay, I just
think it's time. It's sometimes things can get stale, and
I think Mike Tomlin, in a new situation still got
a lot of coaching time left in his in his
body and his mind and his soul would be a
great fit in neither one of those two places. And

(01:59:31):
take number four. There was a rumor yesterday that Steve
Sarkisian could be thought of as a potential NFL candidate.
If Steve was on the phone with me right now
and say Steve my man, stay right where you are.
Do not go to the NFL. Texas will pay you
as much as you want to stay there long term.
You are as successful, You're having the best run of

(01:59:53):
your life as a college football coach. Do not try
to go to the NFL. Continue to dominate college football
for the foreseeable future. I would tell Steve Sarkisian, do
not entertain any offers to go to the NFL. And
those are my four, which one of the four are doing?
Not believe Texans losing to the Chargers Ravens Lions in

(02:00:14):
the Super Bowl. If I were the Patriots of the Jaguars,
I'd kick the tires on trading for Mike Tomlin or
Steve Sarkisian should stay in college football? Which one of
the four am? I not telling the truth? I need
to I need some more sizzles on these next time, Maddie,
you want some more what sizzle? Why what I do? Now?
Some more sizzling hot?

Speaker 7 (02:00:33):
Oh? You it?

Speaker 2 (02:00:34):
You wanted me and you wanted to be easier for you.
These are all valid Ravens Lions Super Bowl. Yeah it
could be true, but could not be. There's no sizzle
on it. Maddie, what do you want for bacon hot?
I'm not nick right, Well, that's true, and I don't
work for a fast One. I'm not sleeping around with people.
He's doing quite well for himself though, Nick Wright is Yeah,

(02:00:55):
you sleeping around with that FS one people too say
that I did not say that. Those are the words,
so Matt Thomas, not those of me. Ross Hello. By
the way, Shannon Sharp's like ha ha, yeah. I think
he even commented like that is stuff. Doesn't have anything
to do with me. So I will not be commenting
anybody at FS one, do I all right? I'm just
working as a part timer. Yeah, all right, what do

(02:01:17):
you got? How's mister Dixon doing about all this?

Speaker 3 (02:01:21):
All right?

Speaker 2 (02:01:21):
Anyway? Anyways, all right, Connor, what do you think I'm
throwing the sark one out? I think you think you
tell the truth about that?

Speaker 13 (02:01:29):
Oh wait, what we're finding the one he he doesn't believe.

Speaker 2 (02:01:33):
We've gone over this three times already, did we not, Connor?
Do we not explain him three to four? I believe yes,
did you understand it the first time I said it? Yes,
we are finding the one he doesn't believe. It's it's
like you're listening to something else, or you just you
have nothing in your brain. You're right right, it's a

(02:01:55):
monkey banging on symbles in there. That's all I got
up there, Christmas. I know he changes Ross, but come on,
but I made it very I didn't change it, but
I told you multiple times. Sorry I zoned out. Which
one of them? Do I not believe three of the four?
I believe? Ah, you not gonna put up with people?

Speaker 13 (02:02:14):
So then maybe so there there you go, ROSSI might
I think it's four.

Speaker 2 (02:02:18):
Then yeah, I think it's three or four. Then Texans
are I think he does believe that the Texans are
one and done in the playoffs. Ravens and Lines is
a reasonable If he's making that up, that's I don't know.
I'm sorry, wait, he's believing this or no, he's making
it up. That's right.

Speaker 13 (02:02:34):
We're trying to find the one he doesn't believe. There's
three truth ones in there. I'm going with three, Okay.
I was kind of thinking three because I feel like
Steve Sarkis should entertain, like he not believes he should
entertain the NFL offers, So I'm gonna go three as well.

Speaker 2 (02:02:50):
Do not entertain offers. Okay, wait, he believes this or
he doesn't know. I'm saying, oh my god, I'm saying,
stay in college.

Speaker 13 (02:02:59):
Do not take a call from an NFL team. Okay,
I'm saying Matt doesn't believe that. Matt believes that he should.

Speaker 2 (02:03:05):
Believes that Matt believes that he should, so he doesn't.
So this is right, but this is wrong. We both
say three. There are people driving around Houston. The eight
people that are listening to show that are like, Ross,
what the hell are you doing?

Speaker 7 (02:03:19):
God?

Speaker 2 (02:03:20):
There are people yelling in their in their cars right now. Okay,
I'm sorry for yelling at you people yelling. Please bear
with me. Okay. So if you think I'm not telling
the truth on four, you would think that I then
you would think Matt I should believe that Steve should
listen to NFL offers. I'm saying you should not. You should. Okay,
let's just go with three. Get it over. We're both

(02:03:42):
going with three. Be a really great segment until Ross
didn't want.

Speaker 7 (02:03:46):
To listen anymore.

Speaker 13 (02:03:47):
It's my fault, all right, you go, I'm going with three.
I don't think I don't think you believe that, right, Okay,
go ahead.

Speaker 2 (02:03:56):
I do believe the Texans are gonna lose the Chargers
on Saturday. Okay. I do believe it's the Ravens against
the Lions in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 7 (02:04:04):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:04:05):
And I also believe that Steve Sarcasian should not entertain
any offers. Stay at college, do not go to the NFL.
H takeover. So, yes, boys, you are right. Oh, I
think trading for a head coach. I think draft picks
are so important in the NFL. Yes, that trading a
second or third round you better be getting the greatest
coach in slice spread, and not that Mike Tumbel was

(02:04:28):
not spectacular. I mean year after year after your playoffs.
But I wouldn't do it if I were them. All Right,
this is what I'm gonna tell you. I considered four
because you're an IL hater. Number one, I am in
on him and Steve Sarkisian. If he goes to the NFL,
he's not gonna have to worry about NL, He's gonna
get a lot of pay, he's not gonna have to
worry about recruiting, not gonna have to worry about the
transfer portal or any of that. And he could be

(02:04:49):
the head of that. Then that was the argument, then, Russell,
then why does anybody become a head football coach in college?
Why does anybody?

Speaker 7 (02:04:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:04:56):
I think it's harder and harder. You got guys quitting
over it as well or getting out of the game.
Let me ask you this, what's what's the short release
NFL head coach or high end college coaches? Maybe the
same thing. I'm gonna say NFL by a smidge, best smidge.
Here's the thing is, here's why, here's why. I see

(02:05:16):
obviously Nio is working for Texas. Yes, facilities are there, Yes,
name recognition, power, conference success. If it ain't broke, don't
fix it. It's good to be a longhorn right now.
I mean, I can't argue with you about that. So
if everything is moving along nicely, why would you interrupt it?
Do you think that Steve Starcusan is nil fatigue? He

(02:05:38):
can he can get anybody he wants as long as
he has the money, and he's gonna have the money. Yeah,
I would just say dealing with all of that and
having guys transfer out, and how many kids are with
a five star recruit and he's already transferring out as
a wide receiver. A lot so far. Yeah, and then
there's not a lot. But you got Mathew Golden. Look
at Matthew, you stole us from Houston, stolen and yeah,

(02:05:59):
you stole him yard Neats and you all his sudden
he has been playing great for you, free market economy
baby when he got the bet. Oh I'm sorry. Oh
let's see. Can you go? What was the record of
the of the University of Houston Coopers this year? Forgot?
Was it four and eight?

Speaker 3 (02:06:14):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:06:15):
Really? What was the record? Yeah? By the way, shout
out to you Kurdish wish. I'm driving and screaming at
the radio. Thank you, Curtis, Thank you very much. I
appreciate it. Okay, ok, say, so you're saying Matthew Golden
should have stayed with the four and eight University of
Houston Cougars rather than be in the camp right now?
Commit Commit works both directions. Oh, like Connor Wegman, you
don't seem to mind when he's coming to Houston, do

(02:06:35):
you transferportal comes to Houston? Was unhappy? It ain't l
I can't. I can't argue he was unhappy and was
unhappy with you. He didn't he got cash whipped at Texas.
Good for him, not good for him. He didn't break
is like I thought I was going to. And that
has to tell the truth. You guys both won. Nice job. Yeah,

(02:06:59):
you she could both because you figured it out, because
you figure out the rules way before he did. I
was just confused. Duh. So you don't pay attention at
the true next week. I don't know what to do
now because I don't even know if you're gonna pay
attention next month. I'm gonna look at you. You know

(02:07:20):
what I'm gonna for. I'm gonna stare at you. Okay, look,
I'm looking at you right now. No, don't No, I'm
leaving in fifteen minutes, so I guess you could. Yeah. Oh,
and one of the Adams are coming in. Oh, they
I don't want to hear jack from you. You're giving
three quarters commitment to the show. So that's what I'm
doing too. You know what, I was always giving one
hundred percent commitment. Then they added at twenty five, I'm
giving a hundred. I'm giving one hundred percent on what

(02:07:41):
was originally. Now I'm being asked to one hundred and
twenty five. I'm happy to be on for the people,
me too, but I'm always one hundred percent two o'clock
the Matt Thomas Show. I'll be on till two o'clock tomorrow,
with Ross taking off Wednesday because I gotta travel without
Matt Thursdays, leaving early Friday for a second job. Oh,
you know what I gotta you know what, I got
a second job at Chick fil A. I gotta leave
an hour early. Man, you need to if you need to,
as long as you say you're a pleasure. Can you

(02:08:03):
bring us back some food? Yeah, I'll be on the
access machine from from the Chick fil A drive through line.
He want some Polynesian sauce or what favorite? Chick fil
a sauce is Polynesian Polynesian for the wind, followed by barbecue.
Least favorite the Chick fil a sauce?

Speaker 7 (02:08:16):
It is?

Speaker 11 (02:08:16):
What is? He?

Speaker 2 (02:08:17):
I'm fistbumping you on this. Thank you very much, thank you,
thank you. I don't even know.

Speaker 7 (02:08:22):
I don't even know.

Speaker 2 (02:08:24):
I don't even know what ever. I know what it
looks like, I don't know what it tastes like. Yeah,
what's up? Chick fil a sauce is over it fil
a sauce?

Speaker 7 (02:08:31):
You agree on.

Speaker 2 (02:08:32):
Something food related, which maybe means I'm wrong. Twelve forty
four Sports Talk seven Nati. I want to welcome a
brand new member to the Sports Talk seven Nauti family.
It's a Scott Callahan and Associates. I had a chance
just uh, what was it Friday. I thought to talk
to Scott and he is a personal injury attorney that

(02:08:53):
wants you to be as comfortable as you possibly can
when it comes to dealing with unfortunate in some accidents,
and that it's going to a possibility. It just is, and
I don't want it to be. But you have to
have somebody that you absolutely trust, and that's why you
have to go with Scott Callahan and Associates. And I'm
gonna tell you more about them after this.

Speaker 8 (02:09:15):
Good Mornings Trippers, Shower with the Matt Thomas.

Speaker 23 (02:09:19):
Show, Wash Off the Glitter and Daddy issues, Quick headline check.

Speaker 2 (02:09:36):
Texans on the practice field more like just working out,
reviewing things. They'll start really getting after it tomorrow. Today.
I think today's our off day, maybe because you know
that's weird the Saturday they have. I think today's are
off day. Tomorrow they'll start practicing. The'll pleck just Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday's like a walk through and then Saturday, sixty five

(02:09:57):
thousand plus will be at Energy Stadiumill they be there
time for kickoff at three. Ready to go, baby, we
represent you know, we haven't played We haven't played the
fight song all year long, that terrible clay Walker song.
It's absolutely horrific. It's so bad. It's so bad. You
know what, we need a Gordy parody? What's the deal?
Have you talked this?

Speaker 7 (02:10:17):
He said?

Speaker 2 (02:10:18):
He wants restaurant trade. Okay, well you're gonna have to
provide that. What if I pay him? Okay, yeah, I
give him some straight cash, homie, he's a gift card
accepted everywhere. How much cash would it take for me
to get Gordy to do a parody? He'd actually give
a damn about. You're gonna have to talk to him

(02:10:38):
about that. Is he worth? Is he gonna do it
for love of the game? What is it for the
good of the show? Exactly? Good to the station if
he if we win, he wins, Yeah, he's gonna want
He's gonna want trade. Okay, well what he was gonna
take a fitty fitty spot? Well we can give him

(02:10:59):
some food of a Asian restaurant here in town. He's
back home. They're in Crackland's cafe somewhere around here. Oh,
I thought you're talking about cajunmeat dot net or whatever
when we why don't we buy him some boot an
balls somewhere?

Speaker 4 (02:11:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:11:11):
See, now you're just gonna offend him. He already doesn't
like when we make fun of Louisiana's why it's a
great state, Well, because we're perry dying Louisian good food.
Oh gosh, I love Louisian interesting dialogue, Yes, teeth optional.
It's really just politicians, yeah, and bad roads, horrible roads,

(02:11:32):
my goodness, and high crime rates. But that's great, fantastic
all right.

Speaker 3 (02:11:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:11:39):
By the way, Saints almost beat the Buccaneers, speaking of
New Orleans sports, Yes, that was really weird. Could you
imagine that boat the Saints? Now Carolina did beat Atlanta
in overtime yesterday, but it was moot. Yes, So I
don't know, mm hmm. Any surprises, and we'll get to
more of this as the week progresses. Any any first
blush team's gonna upset? I guess up that put. I'll

(02:12:04):
put people on upset alert. Matthew, I put it this way.
Minnesota is a point and a half favorite, so that's
not a surprise if they go to LA and win. No, uh,
Tampa Monday game. I hate these Monday games. Tampa is
a three point favorite at home to the Commanders. I
could see the Commanders winning in Tampa. Yeah, three seems

(02:12:26):
like a lot. Philadelphia is a four and a half
point favorite at at home against the Packers. I could
see green Bay covering that Commanders have won five games
in a row and they go on the road to
be three point dollars to the Boneers struggled and they
didn't limp into the playoffs the Buccaneers, But I mean
they struggled. They did. It was a lot closer game
than I think that anybody thought. I think the Broncos

(02:12:48):
are going to be in for an annihilation in Denver.
That spread is what it is? Eight and a half? Yeah,
oh yeah, nine? Yeah. I mean, can you convince yourself
that that Josh Allen's going to falter in the playoffs again?
Not against bo Nicks. Let me ask you, and I
brought this up to you a couple of times. Whose

(02:13:10):
fan base is going to flip out more when they lose?
If they lose. Is it Buffalo's fan base, Baltimore's fan base,
or is it let's see who would be their it
was the third option, Baltimore, Was it Baltimore? I guess
it would be just those two, Yeah, because Eagles fans

(02:13:33):
would flip out. But the Packers are good.

Speaker 7 (02:13:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:13:36):
But I mean if the Chiefs losing the division in
the playoffs this year, they've had two straight Super Bowls,
so it's a shot. Joe bum Ass enjoy yourself.

Speaker 3 (02:13:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:13:44):
I think maybe Bills just because they've been snaked, but
their entire existence of the franchise. Yeah, and this has
been a great era for the Bills. I mean they've
been super Bowl contenders, allowed prepared for if the Ravens lose.
For Lamar Jackson hate ad nausea, it's almost you know,
it's comparable to James Harden, is what it is. James
Harden regular season is admiler. James Harden postseason. Eh, I

(02:14:07):
think Lamar Jackson is. I mean, it's obviously different sports
relative to his peers. Well, I don't know. James Harden
won an MVP two. He was in the discussion several years.
I didn't mean to make that comp am, I am,
I too? That is that a bad comp I think
Jackson horrible. I think Jackson at his best is better
than James was at his best.

Speaker 7 (02:14:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:14:28):
Why does Josh Allen always get a free pass though
somebody's not getting a free pass. Bill's mafia will attack
Josh Allen if they don't go to the super Bowl. Yeah,
that's why this year is going to be very painful
for somebody in the AFC. Somebody. Yeah, I agree. One
of those two quarterbacks are Pat Mahomes might send him
both home as he's done before. Joe Burrow not in

(02:14:50):
the mix. Do you buy into what the Chiefs were
thinking that we should not even allow Denver? We should
absolutely Denver to kick our ass so we don't get
the the Bengals potentially to go to the playoffs? Is
that what you or? Were they just resting their guys?

Speaker 7 (02:15:06):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:15:06):
No, I think they were thinking. Were they actively like
did they throw the ball to the Broncos?

Speaker 7 (02:15:10):
Allow?

Speaker 2 (02:15:11):
But I do believe that I think they were scared.
I think everybody was scared of the Bengals making the playoffs.
Keeping the Bengals out was absolutely a good idea. You
look at the Bengals and what happened. You look at all,
Here's what happened. Almost every game they lost was a
field goal. Cincinnati won, the Jets beat the Dolphins, and
the chief If the Chiefs would have won that game
or just they would have lost that game. I won

(02:15:33):
that game, they would have knocked out Denver. It would
have been Cincinnati. Yeah, since Anti might have been the
scariest seven seed out there. But you know what, go
back to Week one. Remember in your big Circus survivor,
all you want to do is see the Bengals beat
New England. Whre me bringing that up? Man, I was
thinking about that. I'm not thinking about it. I just wanted
to pass along as an anecdotiiciate it. I think there
were eighteen people left in the last week spliting how

(02:15:56):
much six million dollars, twenty million, twenty million. Well the
Powers Sports Talk said Mounty with all those Houston people,
and I'm glad we got them in there. We gotta
go back. That was fun. Well hopefully we do. So
anybody that's like it was it all or nothing and
everybody wins some money down the road on that, I
think eight people win a perfect and twenty and zero,

(02:16:17):
so one point seven million each. Must be nice. Wait
I thought it was over twenty million. Well maybe it was.
The circ contest was twenty million. Yeah, all right, final
hour of the show. I'll be listening. Can't wait to
hear your great repartee with the audience. Oh man, unbelievable stuff.
Some breakdown of the Rockets Lakers game with maybe lots

(02:16:37):
of my highlights opening up the final hour of the show.

Speaker 7 (02:16:39):
You never know?

Speaker 2 (02:16:40):
No, probably not. Okay, it's fair. I will talk to
you tomorrow for our nations. Maybe an anim will show up.
Stay tune. Not gonna go with Wexer as a minus
three hundred favorite over Clinton. Hmm, that's an informed opinion.
Clanton be like I was so rush trying to get
here and these two cups of coffee in his hand.

(02:17:03):
Twelve fifty eight, final hour of the Matt Thomas Show
of Ross is next.

Speaker 1 (02:17:08):
Yeah, lunchtimers, this is the Matt Thomas.

Speaker 2 (02:17:12):
Show, one hour two in eggs down. What's happening, lunch timers,
this is our number four of the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross.

Speaker 4 (02:17:25):
Tounzel is an eligible lineman on the left side of
the offensive line.

Speaker 2 (02:17:30):
Perr Smith goes in.

Speaker 4 (02:17:31):
Motion Stroud throws to his left pass is complete touchdown.

Speaker 2 (02:17:34):
Nico Collins.

Speaker 4 (02:17:38):
Nico Collins with his seven touchdown reception. A little shoving
at the end of that play. That is a great
honor to be put in the same category. Here's Pierce
and Pears is gonna break free.

Speaker 5 (02:17:50):
He's gonna go all the way with one man to beat.
Mike Brown is trawling im In Piers inside the ten
into the A zone. Ninety two yards for Damien Pierce
and the Texans are feeling good, like fuck.

Speaker 4 (02:18:12):
Mills to the middle, passed through blink the woods and
he's got a first down up to the forty six
yard line. Mike Brown in on the tackle, second in goal.
Mills trying to run. Mills inside the five, turned the
end zone and he's upbounded.

Speaker 5 (02:18:26):
He lost the football and it looks like they fell on.

Speaker 8 (02:18:30):
Top of it in the end zone.

Speaker 5 (02:18:31):
But they're gonna say that Mills was down thirty six
thirty six yards to get to eleven hundred yards, which
will put another incentive in for him.

Speaker 2 (02:18:38):
All the fun of the football.

Speaker 5 (02:18:40):
It's picked up by Farnut, who's having a day. He's
running inside the ten, pulling guys inside the five Hitto
the zone touchdown Texans.

Speaker 2 (02:18:58):
And the Houston Texans vanquish the Tennessee Titans cause playing
in Houston oiler's gear for what reason, I do not know,
with the twenty three to fourteenth victory to go ten
and seven on the year and charge into the playoffs.

(02:19:21):
Pun not intended, but I guess it works. Saturday at
three point thirty their usual spot eight times in the playoffs,
the Houston Texans eight times the first game on Saturday.
My gosh, just start calling it Texans time from here
on out and everything will be okay. We can all
save ourselves the trouble and just continue to put them

(02:19:43):
there because that is their rightful spot. Our number four
of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Matt Thomas has
ducked out Ross Viria flying solo with you. If you'd
like to get in, phone lines are open and available.
You want to up talk about the Texans and this
weekend will also to talk about the Rockets and their
win over the Los Angeles Lakers last night. Anything you

(02:20:04):
want to get to seven one three two one two
five seven ninety is your phone number seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. So first thing on
the Texans, and it kind of isn't it an all
too familiar feeling that we've had with this team over
the last several years, to where Okay, yes they've won

(02:20:24):
the AFC South, but how far are they going to
go in the playoffs? And of course the beginning of
the year I predicted in the finish eleven and six,
I thought they would establish themselves as one of the
top contenders in the AFC, And early on in the
season they were winning games, but they weren't looking spectacular
doing it. They had the huge blowout loss to the

(02:20:45):
Minnesota Vikings, and I kept telling myself as battle Red Ross,
trying to convince myself, all right, at some point they're
gonna turn it on, They're gonna hit that next gear. Certainly,
they haven't shown their best, they haven't played their best football,
and that's how I was trying to convince myself that
this team was going to turn it around. Then, for
whatever reasons you want to point to, whether it be

(02:21:07):
the offensive line and the poor play there. Of course,
the injuries to Stefan Diggs at one point, Nico Collins,
but of course he's back now. But Tank Dell, Stefon
Diggs are out for the year. You've had all these
issues on an offensive line that has been horrible, and
then just hitting rock bottom in that game against the
Ravens on Christmas for everyone to see there on Netflix.

(02:21:29):
Thirty one to two was as bad as it got
for the Texans, to where you just all the air
was out of the balloon, all the steam out of
the season. Any trying to kind of sliver of hope
that you could convince yourself that this team would show
something at some point, it all went out the window
in that game against the Ravens. So here we are

(02:21:50):
with a bounce back game against the Titans, who are terrible,
who are literally the worst team in football. They've earned
themselves the number one overall pick, and you got one
from cd Stroud. He was a perfect six for six
fifty yards, had a touchdown. That's good. It's a step
in the right direction. Effectively a preseason game for him
against preseason competition in the Tennessee Titans. And now we

(02:22:13):
find ourselves again with the Texans team saying where do
we go from here? How far are they going to
go to the playoffs. We don't think they're one of
the contenders I don't even feel like last year where
they were the surprise team and it's like, Okay, they're
the fun underdog. They're playing lose, the expectations are low,

(02:22:34):
they don't know, they're not supposed to be here, all
those types of cliches that we can throw to. And
then they got manhandled by the Baltimore Ravens in that game,
and that into the playoffs in the division round there
as well, and that just really was a tough pill
to swallow at the end of the year. So now
you have this game coming up against the Chargers. You're
three point dogs, and we'll go along as the week

(02:22:56):
goes along to breaking down this matchup and talking about it.
But I mean Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. Joey Bosa
is not as great as he has been in years past,
a little bit older, a little bit maybe more injured,
not as fearsome and ferocious as he has been, but
a really good running game for the Chargers with a
really good offensive line. JK. Dobbins is back. Justin Herbert

(02:23:18):
has really come along as the season has come along.
Quentin Johnson is breaking out before our eyes, and Lad
mcconukie has been one of the better wide receivers in
football all season long. It's in terms of a slot guy.
So you add it all up, it's no shock to me.
Texans are three point dogs at home wild Card weekend
on Saturday against the Chargers. But I guess at this

(02:23:40):
point our mindset just needs to be win and then
continue to see what happens as it plays out, depending
on what happens in the NFL. Of course, the playoffs
do reseed, but if everything went to chalk at this moment,
your reward for beating the Chargers at home is going
to Arrowhead Stadium and taking on a Chiefs team that

(02:24:02):
is fresh and rested, or maybe we can go rusted
because they hadn't played since Christmas. Really they're starters Pat
Mahomes and company. They last played against the Steelers on Christmas,
they didn't play this past weekend. Then they're gonna get
the bye week as well. It'll be twenty four to
twenty five days they're gonna have off, depending on if
they play on a Saturday or a Sunday, and then

(02:24:25):
that's where you're gonna be at Arrowhead. If you beat
the Chargers this weekend right now, three or two and
a half point dogs, depending on how you look at it.
So it's just kind of one of those things where
I don't know, are we just too spoiled saying, Ah,
they're gonna not goin into the playoffs? Who cares? But
they're also one of the seven teams in the AFC
who are in the playoffs. They win a game, then

(02:24:46):
they'll be down to what at that point, the final eight.
As I talked with Adam Wexler when he was in
I don't know, a couple of weeks ago. If they're
in the final eight, that's pretty good. It's better than
a lot of places people would be. You're feeling better
than Titans fans right now. You're feeling better than Cowboys
fans right now. So maybe there is an element of
us being a little bit too spoiled. With the way

(02:25:06):
that the Houston Texans A season has gone this year,
they're ten and seven AFC sou champions. We would have
liked to see a leap into next into that next
upper echelon. It hasn't happened. I mentioned this on Twitter
thirty three hundred and seventy two points four three hundred
and seventy two points against. That is a zero point

(02:25:29):
differential of teams to make the playoffs. As I'm scanning
around now, Los Angeles Rams are negative. They have a
minus nineteen point differential. But it's looking like that's about
it in terms of the worst teams to make the
playoffs by that singular metric. So there you go. That's

(02:25:51):
why we're not excited about the Texans. They've been completely
mediocre basically the entire season. We still have question marks
about the offensive line. Stephan Dickson, Tank Dell are not
coming back. You're gonna be leaning on guys like Xavier
Hutchinson and John Matchi and in Dalton Schultz, who's just
for whatever reason, looking like a shell of himself this year.
You can get some CJ. Stroud magic. You can get

(02:26:13):
some really good defensive play of the Texans still have
one of the best defenses in football. Win this game
against the Chargers this weekend, and then see what happens.
That's what you're hoping for right now if you are
a Houston Texans fan. All Right, we're gonna take a
quick break here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross I.
See those of you on hold we can get to
you in a moment you want to get in seven

(02:26:34):
one three two one two five seven ninety. Are we
being spoiled or are we being realistic when it comes
to the Texans seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. As I mentioned, you have the Rockets beating
the Lakers last night as well coach Tamiko Ryan speaking
to the media today. We'll get to some of that.
Maybe an Adam pops in. We'll see with you until
two o'clock. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross

(02:26:55):
on sports Stock seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (02:26:57):
Matten Ross returns on Sports Talk seven ninety, well kind.

Speaker 2 (02:27:09):
Of Ross returns. Matt is jet setting with the Houston Rockets,
so he has left early. I might be joined by somebody.

Speaker 8 (02:27:21):
I might not.

Speaker 2 (02:27:21):
We'll see with you until two o'clock here on the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Rockets with the win last
night against the Los Angeles Lakers. Tomorrow they will be
taking on the Washington Wizards. It'll be a six o'clock
start here on Sports Talk seven ninety. So Matt Thomas
road tripping with the Rockets. You and me and possibly
an Adam will see the rest of the way. Seven

(02:27:43):
one three two one two five seven ninety is the
phone number seven one three two one two five seven
ninety talking about the Texans in that last segment and
the win that they've had. I mean, I can convince
myself that there is a world where the Texans win
this weekend. Actually, I ran into somebody just between you
and me. I went to the bathroom during the break

(02:28:03):
and there was somebody who works up here and like, hey,
what do you think about the Texans this weekend? That's
rather than water cooler talk. I guess it was bathroom talk,
but you know what it is, Dudes talk about sports
wherever they are. Hey, what do you think about the Texans?
They got a chance? I can they win? I said, absolutely,
they have the chance. The formula for the Texans to
win this weekend is it's going to be on the
backbone of the defense. Defense has been one of the

(02:28:26):
best units in football in terms of yards per play allowed.
I think they're doing a really good job all season long.
As he's all show years back, you're gonna have Daniel
Hunter and Will Anderson Junior healthy and ready to go
this weekend. As far as I know, Joe Mixon's going
to be there. You can establish a run. You can
do basically probably with Demiko Ryans and visions as most

(02:28:47):
defensive head coaches do. Establish the run game, score some points,
stop them enough times on defense, win twenty three to twenty.
That right now is basically what it feels like for
the Texans and their formula of winning this game. Would
that be the most shocking thing in the world. Absolutely not.
Home dogs three points in under are usually good plays

(02:29:07):
in general as well. So it's not gonna be a
night game, but it's gonna be a playoff environment. Hopefully
the Houston crowd is loud and ready to go and
ready there for kickoff. Sometimes there are issues with that,
but not usually in the playoffs, not like something I'm
expecting that it's gonna be horrible or anything like that.
And it's not like there's gonna be a lot of
Chara traveling Chargers fans. I think you might have had

(02:29:28):
a little bit of an issue with some crowd noise
if it were the Steelers, of course, one of the
great national fan bases in the NFL. But it's the Chargers.
They're in Los Angeles. You're gonna be home. It can
be loud, that's gonna be. That's gonna absolutely favor the
Texans defense. You can win this game and that's basically

(02:29:49):
all you have to worry about right now. Where they
go from there, we'll see. We talked about making that
progression into the upper uchelon of the AFC. You win
your division, you win a playoff game, you still had
a pretty darn good season, no matter where your expectations
lay before the season. Seven one, three, two two five,
seven ninety is the phone number Jacob on the north

(02:30:11):
side has been holding patiently. Jacob, go ahead. The floor
is yours.

Speaker 14 (02:30:15):
Yeah, man, I think they underestimating them.

Speaker 2 (02:30:18):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (02:30:19):
This quarterback for for for the Herbert team, Herbert whatever
his name, Justin Herbert, Yeah, justin Herbert. This is his
first playoff if I'm not mistaken. Just like last year,
at least our quarterback, you know, won one game, he
won one game, and you know, got some experience.

Speaker 2 (02:30:39):
I think they underestimating the experience and they went last year.

Speaker 14 (02:30:41):
I'm just understanding ten and seven last year, in ten
and seven this year, and I understand and another thing,
un estimate the coach besides lafour in Green pay the
first two years he won ten games. He the only
coach besides latlefour Ben done it since Lafour. So I
think with the defense healthy, they got zer back. Man,

(02:31:02):
they they finna they finna put it on them and
and you know what, I'm glad they ain't play Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (02:31:08):
I was so glad they because.

Speaker 14 (02:31:09):
I don't know why they acting like the what is
it the charge the San Diego or the Chargers. They
ain't sid San Diego, l A. I don't know why
they think they are. So I understand he got some
we can pass some reason they thinking that the passing,
the old school passing in the pocket quarterback is not
winning another super Bowl.

Speaker 7 (02:31:27):
You can forget.

Speaker 2 (02:31:28):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (02:31:29):
Mahomes is not an inside in a pocket passer. He's
not that you gotta be able to do. You have
to be a dual threat. He can run a little bit,
but he's not CJ gonna get it together. I think
that he got that year experience and that with that defense,
and I think they got a better chance with the
Chiefs than they have to go through the Ravens. So
I'm looking forward to it. Man, it's gonna I think

(02:31:50):
they I think they gonna that. They think they're gonna
do better and if they if they win this, they're
gonna beat l A. But if they lose to the
Chief Bottle, you know, I think they progress and they
only way to do. I think I got them a
couple of years out from making it to the Big Dance.
All right, man, all.

Speaker 2 (02:32:05):
Right, thanks a lot, Jake. I appreciate you getting in
and thank you for making the call. It's interesting you
say that, and I really can't. I don't really disagree
with you. The funny part of the part of your conversation. Yeah,
I'd rather face the Chief. We're talking about the back
to back Super Bowl champions with Patrick Mahomes. Widely, some

(02:32:27):
people are already calling the greatest quarterback of all time.
I'm not there yet, but I mean, in the conversation
for top five quarterback of all time already at this
point in his career. And I agree with you just
because the Chiefs for the most part throughout the year
have looked more vulnerable than some of the other teams,
even though they've only lost once. When they've actually tried,

(02:32:47):
they get absolutely crushed by the Broncos. But they didn't
play their starters. I mean, they went fifteen in one.
Are we crazy. Are we misassessing this situation? They went
fifteen in one and they're back to back Super Bowl
champions and I'm agreeing with Jacob that I'd rather play
the Chiefs than the Ravens or the Bills. That's crazy.
This is way crazy. But again it is just because

(02:33:10):
the Chiefs. We were talking about point differential earlier as
far as h as teams, and that being that one
metric is just one data point doesn't mean everything. But
if you're blowing out teams more consistently than you're getting
blown out, you're gonna end up with a pretty good
point differential. Again, we've thought the Texans mediocre all year long.
Their point differential is zero scored as many points as
they've given up plus one fifty seven for the Ravens

(02:33:34):
and the Bills. That's pretty darn good. Who do you
think of the best team in football is? I think
it's a Detroit Lions there plus two twenty two, so yeah,
eagle best point differentials in football Lions, Eagles, and then
the Bills. In the Ravens Chiefs are just a plus
five nine fifty nine. So by that one data point,

(02:33:56):
it seems like they're more vulnerable. But when you talk
about what's actually happening, Andy Read a week off to
prepare and back to back Super Bowl champions in fifteen
to one. It's gonna be tough no matter who they face,
but of course they have to get past the Chargers. Yeah,
Justin Herbert does not have playoff experience. He's having a

(02:34:16):
really good year. The team's eleven and six. They weren't
throwing the ball a whole lot early on, but they
really started ramping it up and not necessarily being established
the run type of team with Jim Harball later on
ended up with over thirty eight hundred yards, twenty three touchdowns,
three interceptions. Justin Herbert has not been turning the ball over.

(02:34:38):
Do I think in his fifth year in the NFL
that all of a sudden he's gonna be a deer
in the headlights this weekend? I don't think so. But
I think the Texans can do enough to confuse him,
just because Demiko Ryan is a really good coach, and
he's got a lot of his pieces available to him
as well. So I think it is possible that that
Justin Herbert's effectiveness is limited by the Texans defense this weekend.

(02:35:01):
The question is can ce J Stroud and that Texans
offense do the same on the other side with Derwin
James and Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa and that good
secondary that they have on that other side. That will
be the question mark. I think it's gonna be a
close game. I think it's gonna be a one score game.
I think it's gonna come down to the fourth quarter.

(02:35:22):
The question is flip a coin. Who is going to
come through. It's gonna be Justin Herbert or is it
gonna be c J Stroud? C J Stroud now with
one series under his belt in the last game, so
maybe some time to rest and recover. He'd been talking
about being banged up as the season was going along.
How much does that matter? I don't know. How much
does experience matter? Coach Dimiko Ryans speaking with the media

(02:35:45):
earlier today. Here's what he had to say about playoff experience.

Speaker 7 (02:35:49):
The mindset of our young guys. They just want to play.
They love playing football, all right.

Speaker 17 (02:35:55):
And that's how I like them.

Speaker 10 (02:35:57):
Like.

Speaker 17 (02:35:57):
Their mentality is straightforward, like let's get to it, what's
the next opponent, what's the game playing, Let's go to
work and That's how I want our guys to be.
It's just laser focused on what matters right now, right.
You know, we'll have guys who have experience in the
playoffs guys who don't have experience. At the end of
the day, for me, when the ball is snap, like,

(02:36:17):
are you doing your job or are you not? Are
you playing with the Texans relentless mindset or not?

Speaker 7 (02:36:23):
Like that's what matters, right and our.

Speaker 17 (02:36:25):
Young guys, older guys, it doesn't matter our team collectively.

Speaker 7 (02:36:28):
We have to play complimentary football. Everybody has to.

Speaker 17 (02:36:32):
We have to play smart football, eliminate mistakes right and
play together and that'll be That'll be good enough for us.

Speaker 2 (02:36:40):
There you go, you step inside the line. Then we've
heard this a lot a lot of times from uh.
I mean any sport that, yeah, playoffs or matter does
the intensity does ramp up. It's more important. But a
lot of that is more with the fans and the
pundits than it is with the players in between the lines,
because once you step on that fiel, once the snap

(02:37:00):
is happening, you're not in the middle. You know, Kaylen
Bullock is not playing deep safety coverage and thinking, man,
it's the playoffs it's the playoff. No, he's trying to
do his job. As he just said. It's all the
players trying to follow up on what they've learned from
throughout the week in preparation and practice and execute the

(02:37:21):
plays that are called. It's not necessarily like, oh my gosh,
I'm quaking out of my boots because it's playoff football.
But I mean, we're going to see what happens and
then the narrative will right itself. The Texans when the game.
Justin Herbert wasn't ready for prime time. He's not playoff
ready and all that type of stuff. But it's really
about preparation. It's really about executing in the moment more

(02:37:44):
than it is about necessarily or rising to these moments.
In my opinion, and in the opinion I mean a
lot of coaches and a lot of players have talked
about it. It's just more about playing the game and
playing their game than it is about necessarily nerves. Guys
normally get over their nerves very very early in the
game because once they've prepared properly and gotten their practice

(02:38:06):
in and all that type stuff, it just becomes the
same game as it was any other week. Once the
I don't want to, well, for lack of a better analogy,
bullet Star flying, I don't want to, you know, invoke
any of those types of but you'd get what I'm saying.
Once the game starts, once everything gets going, in with
the flow, it's just like other games for them. And

(02:38:28):
as the Damiko Ryan just said to you as well.
All right, seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
The phone number if you'd like to get in, no Adam,
we'll be making it. It's me and you. If you'd
like to get in until two o'clock, it's seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. It is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross, but without Matt Thomas. He
has left early. He is traveling with your Houston Rockets,

(02:38:49):
who take on the Washington Wizards tonight. We're talking some Texans,
We're talking some Rockets. If you'd like to get in
anything you want to get to as well, it's seven
one three two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (02:39:00):
Lunchtimers, lunchtimers, It's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:39:23):
The PM here on Sports Talk seven. Hinty Ross, VI
your real with you A couple of more segments on
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Matt Thomas is traveling
with your Houston Rockets, so you can get in if
you'd like. No Believe It or Not? Today? Do we
have any prizes yet, Connor McGovern. I'm sorry, Connor McGovern,
as you prefer when I go into the Aguish Voice

(02:39:44):
with your name. We've got prices. We've got four pack
of tickets to Monster Jam though we'll have this week,
so okay, well that'll be later on. Yeah, prize horrors,
go ahead and hold your hold the phone. You don't
have to call in today, No, Matt Thomas. So we're
not doing Believe It or Not today? So I guess
is it too It's almost like when it's too late
to say Happy New Year, is it too late to
do best of twenty twenty four for Believe It or Not?

Speaker 3 (02:40:04):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:40:05):
I would say no either, because I want to mail
it in and I would just pick and cheers. Actually,
sometimes picking best of from the year before whittling down
the list can be a little bit more difficult than
writing questions itself. I could spend more time on it.
It depends, okay, So best of Believe It or Not?
Let's go ahead and pencil that in for tomorrow, right,
Matt should be around for the show. He is traveling
today and we can get you those Monster Jam tickets

(02:40:28):
that'll be tomorrow at one fifty Rockets in action against
the Wizards. Why that's why Matt Thomas is traveling seven
one three, two, one two five seven nineties of the
phone number to get in not to prize Orr, but
to talk some Texans, which we've been talking and some
Rockets as well, which I'll get to in the next segment,
but also with the Texans as far as an Angle

(02:40:50):
mentioned Joe Mixon coming back, and I mean he did
play one drive for the Texans, and it really went perfect,
perfectly to a tee because we did a lot of
time speculating last week how much are they gonna play?
Is it gonna be a quarter, is it gonna be
a half, is it gonna be three drives four? Whatever? Well,
they went and got a touchdown on their first drive.

Speaker 7 (02:41:09):
CJ.

Speaker 2 (02:41:10):
Stroud was a perfect six for six and that was
the perfect way for Damiico Ryan to let CJ. Stroud say,
all right, I'm out, that's it for me. Perfect game.
It wasn't a perfect passer rating for whatever reason. If
you didn't throw an incompletion and you threw a touchdown, whatever,
it doesn't matter. Passer rating is stupid anyways. But one

(02:41:30):
hundred and forty one passer rating for CJ. Stroud and
then also Joe Mixon with five carries for twenty three yards,
and then Damian Pierce with a huge day for the Texans.
Even though he ripped off a ninety two yarder, he
still had himself a pretty darn good day one hundred
and seventy six yards touchdown as well, and begs the question,
at least after the game, you're thinking, Wow, Damian Pierce,

(02:41:53):
I mean really showed himself. He really did a good
job running, had had some productive carries. Is capable of
busting a ninety two yard er? That is something of
an element of the offense. It doesn't exist with Joe
Mixon there. I like Joe Mixon, But is Joe Mixon
gonna bust a ninety two yard touchdown and out run
an entire defense? Probably not, And of course I am

(02:42:13):
not advocating for him to start or anything like that.
It just begs the question, how much would we see
more of Damian Piers or is it gonna be one
of those. Hey, we appreciate you stepping up and doing
your thing in this game, in this meaningless game against
the Tennessee Titans, but we're gonna go ahead and send
you back to the way deep on the bench to

(02:42:34):
where last several games against Baltimore, five carries for thirteen
yards against Kansas City, one carry for four yards. No
carries against Miami, Jacksonville or Tennessee in the first Titans
matchup either. So it'll be interesting to see. I'm curious
if the like I said, the initial overreaction is like,

(02:42:55):
you gotta get Damian Pierce out there, You gotta get
him some more carries or no, would you rather have
Damian Pierce or Joe Mixon on the field. Very easy
answer is Joe Mixon. So if he's healthy, ready to go,
that's the guy you go with, you dance with who
brung you, And Joe Mixon is the one who brung
you into this level, as to me, one of the
indispensable elements of this Texans offense, along with of course

(02:43:18):
you start with CJ. Shroud, Nico Collins, Joe Mixon. I've
said it all year. If any of them go downs
its lights out. It's a wrap for the Texans as
far as their offense this year, you've already lost too
much with Stefan Diggs and Tank Dell. You need both
of those guys on the offense, and if you don't,

(02:43:39):
it's gonna be some tough sledding and the guy calling
those plays for them. Bobby slow has come under a
lot of fire this year. Again, It's funny to me
how we can and there are some people who had
problems with Bobby Slowk last year and thought he was
bad and he calls too many screens, he's not inventive
and all that type of stuff. But when the offensive
line is playing better, you got all your web Funny

(02:44:00):
how it works a little bit better with the offense
and you gain more yards and you score more points.
I think Bobby Slowik is still a good play designer.
I like a lot of plays that he does call.
I think sometimes, yes, I agree with some of you
that sometimes it can feel a little bit too predictable,
a little too stale, a little bit to coaching not

(02:44:20):
to lose rather than coaching to win, which is something
that Joe Mixon has said earlier in this year as well.
I think it was after the Green Bay game maybe
where they mentioned that where the Texans basically played for
a field goal when they needed to go for a
touchdown in order to try to seal that win on
the road, and it was a not to lose type
of situation they played for. And the offense has struggled
all year long.

Speaker 7 (02:44:41):
CJ.

Speaker 2 (02:44:41):
Shroud has regressed, the offensive line has been bad, and
you haven't had all I mean, how many games did Tank, Dell,
Stefan Diggs and Nico Collins all three play together. I'm
not sure. I don't have that number in front of me.
Imagine for first some reason, it feels like Adam Weizer
knows that, but I don't. But it's not that many.
It's got to be less than half the season at

(02:45:03):
this point. So Bobby Slowik certainly under fire a lot
this season. Here's what Jamiko Ryans had to say earlier
today about him growing in adjustments.

Speaker 7 (02:45:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (02:45:12):
I don't know if any season it's smooth, right. You
have a lot of ups and downs, even you know
when you win and kind of those things kind of
go under the rug. But they're ups and downs as
coaches and as coaches you have to grow and evolve,
have to do things different, and sometimes you set out
to do or you have a mindset of doing things
one particular way, and you always have to kind of

(02:45:35):
tweak those things and do what's best for the guys
that you have.

Speaker 7 (02:45:39):
And what they're capable of doing.

Speaker 17 (02:45:41):
So I see where I think Bobby has definitely grown
in the area of being able to adjust and put
our guys in position to where they can be successful.

Speaker 2 (02:45:50):
Okay, so there you go, do mel would you would
you expect them to say to me CoA Ryan's not
going to get in front of the microphone and say
Bobby Slow and guy meeting My god, this guy is
the worst, never makes an adjustment. Not a good coach
needs to be let go from the team. I don't
even know why he's getting interviewed by teams. I think
is the Jets that are interviewing Bobby Slowick. Yeah, so

(02:46:13):
he's not gonna do that, but says he does appreciate
that Bobby Slock has been adjusting and learning on the fly.
And again I said, I do have some criticism Bobby Slog,
but I don't think he's terrible and I don't think
he is the element of this Texans offense that is
completely holding the team back. I don't think if you
switch offensive coordinators, I don't even know who you would choose.
Kyle Shanahan somehow becomes available and he's the offensive coordinator

(02:46:36):
of this team that all of a sudden, the Texans
are ripping off thirty points per game with this offensive
line that stated it is and then after Nico Collins,
Xavier Hudson and John Metchi and Dalton Scholtz, this is
just not enough to work with in my opinion. So
things do need to be addressed, certainly in the offseason

(02:46:56):
in terms of pass catcher and offensive line. CJ. Stroud
offseason of him, I don't even know exactly what he needs.
Maybe partly to get healthy. He's talked about being banged
up before. Maybe it's just some some growth and maturity
in his game and kind of resetting mentally with the
ghost that he's been seeing out there when in terms

(02:47:18):
of pass rushers. But he needs to get better, and
I think Bobby Slowak still can be an effective part
of this offense. It's no accident. I mean, look, if
he was that bad, if he was in danger of
being fired, which some of y'all think. I don't think so.
I don't think that Bobby Slok is in danger of
being fired. He's also just thirty seven years old, and
he's still getting interviews apparently gonna get interviewed by the Jets,

(02:47:41):
but also some other candidates being interviewed by the Jets
as well. Who is it, Ron Rivera, I can't remember
who else, but Jets apparently interviewing everyone but Bobby Slok
among the names. So if he is so bad, I
know there are probably a lot of Texans fans saying, oh,
you want him, you take him. I think he's pretty good.
I like Bobby Slowan, but again not perfect. But a

(02:48:05):
lot of times, I mean, when the Texans are leading
the NFL at least last check and like blown blocks
and pressure rate allowed and stuff like that, there's not
a whole lot you can do. I mean, you get
Bill Walsh reincarnated calling your game, calling your games, and
if the quarterback's running for his life every other play,
and there's guys in the backfield from blown blocks and

(02:48:25):
runs every play, there's not a whole lot you can do.
So things certainly can get better offensively for the Texans,
it's just it's got to happen quick against this Chargers
defense is pretty good. I don't think of them as
like one of the best units in football. They're very
good much earlier on in the season, but mentioned like
guys like guys you, Joey Bosa, Khalil mac Derwin James,

(02:48:46):
They've got some good players on that defense. I'm expecting
a low scoring affair this weekend for the Texans as
they take on the Chargers, holding it two and a
half point dogs, three points depending on where you look
at what about right, I'm not scared of the Chargers
and are not world beaters. They got a solid squad
with Justin Herbert, with the JK. Dobbins back pass catchers

(02:49:09):
are good, offensive line is good. They can move the
ball and they're going to try to do so. But
they are going up against the Texans defensive unit that
has been one of the best in football all season long.
Has their guys ready to go and going to be
home with that home field advantage being loud as possible
there at INRG Stadium, Expecting a low scoring game that

(02:49:29):
comes down to the fourth quarter will reevaluate as we
go along throughout the week. You want to get in
seven one three two one two five seven ninety is
your phone number? On The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
seven to one three two one two five seven ninety.
Final segment of the show. By the way, it's without
Matt Thomas. He is traveling with the rockets that's coming

(02:49:50):
up after this very short break. No fear, no worries,
and no hair. It's the Matt Thomas way.

Speaker 8 (02:50:00):
And sports Talk continues with The Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (02:50:19):
Oh my god, it Adam did show up? What's up?
It's not. It's not the guy that uh Matt had
odds on. That's true. I heard y'all, Tom minus three hundred.
I heard y'all talking trash about me like like it's
a daily We were doing it in secret. Oh wait,
right on microphones in front of your faces. Yeah. See,
I thought you should appreciate that, like it. At least

(02:50:39):
we try we talk trash to your face. Yeah. No,
most people, A lot of people try to do it
behind my back and think I don't find out about it.
But they're losers, kind of like the Texans will be
on sa Hey, hey is that where we're going? Okay,
Adam Clinton is here my name is Ross, your real
Max's jacket? I am Yeah. Actually I've had this for
years and years years. My father bought this for me

(02:51:01):
before it was even battle Red. Ross, look le, did
you see the reebok? Have you so you know when?

Speaker 3 (02:51:06):
Did?

Speaker 2 (02:51:06):
When did Nike switch over? Been years? Have you copyrighted that?
Because you know your show is famous for not copyrighting phrases.
And then I think I would get a cease and
desist from the McNair's lightning quick if I tried to
copyright with anyone with battle Red? Your name? Yeah, Ross? Well,
I mean, and he's Liberty White Matt as they've proven

(02:51:26):
multiple teams can use the same colors. Well, it's so
you call it something different, it's a little off. What
if you call it like battle Red? Maybe it's a
couple of Pantone numbers off. I'm not sure. What if
you called it, uh like a different version, like like
like Warrior red or something Town red, just like they
call it h Town blue, yeah, instead of Columbia. Yeah,

(02:51:50):
I mean, it's funny it is more Houston than Colombia.
That's true. So what do you think about yesterday?

Speaker 7 (02:51:57):
Man?

Speaker 2 (02:51:58):
Like Amian Pierce needs to get fifty cars next week,
he's the goat. Isn't that a microcosm of the whole thing? Like, yeah,
but you were playing at Titans. It was like a
preseason game. Yeah, I thought it was great. It was fun.
I wanted first of all, I wanted them to lose
because they were wearing the Oilers gear, which I said
last year, like the oiler stuff in my that's it
was completely dead for me. Last year seeing it was fine,

(02:52:21):
but it was like Will Levice in the uniforms and
it was terrible. And they lost the case Keenum it
was even worse. They need to give up this whole charade.
I mean, I liked that the national media is catching
on to how lame this is. Well, you wait to
the last season of the year. You know that you're
playing Houston. You're only doing this to try to twist
the knife into your fans, and you get your ass
beat by Davis Mills and Damien Pierce. You get what

(02:52:43):
you deserve. Amy Adams Strunk, I have a confession to
make to you, specifically, Okay, I had if there are
tweets that I like, like I really like, Okay, I'll
consider putting them in the video. And I had yours.
Oh okay, say because it was so good. That's elite.

(02:53:04):
Trash talk to that garbage franchise in Nashville. It's the
only thing about Nashville I don't like. By the way,
my sister lives there, but before she moved there, I
love Now if you've never been, it's beautiful, even the
surrounding smaller towns. I would highly recommend. I have the
best piece of cherry pie. Is this an euphemism. It's
not a warrant song. It was real, actual pie with

(02:53:27):
cherries in it at like a little mom and pop place.
What I didn't know it And I'm sorry. I'm just
used to somebody else sitting in that chair and things
going haywire. Being a pervert. Yeah, those are the words
of Adam Clinton, not me. Ross. Yeah, he trash talks
me on his show. I talked. I trash talk him
on his show, just like me. So anyway, it's like Franklin, Tennessee,

(02:53:53):
something like that. Anyway, Tennessee's beautiful. Tennessee's beautiful. But the
football team there is you know, it is what it is? Yeah,
we have, but I think you had And I actually
referenced this last week on our show. I was like,
Ross has the right approach. Those those uniforms, however, cool
they still look. And I can admit that it look
great because there ares they're not theirs, right, Uh it's

(02:54:16):
not that towns, but they're you know, they've lost the
luster because now you're just trying to be petty about it.
So yeah, I had included I had intended on including
your tweet. Yes, and I forgot. I literally just forgot
to put it on the timeline. Appreciate it. It's still
in my fust sor right, I would have charged you.
I charged you with flat feet. People are like, oh,
what do you edit that on like a free software
app on my iPhone? People think I like use a

(02:54:36):
computer to do that? Give me a break. So I
have carpal Tunnel on my right hand hashtag iMovie. Oh
here we go. Oh it's Titan Chris. Let's go. What's
up Titan Chris?

Speaker 23 (02:54:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:54:46):
You know I had called in about your call.

Speaker 7 (02:54:49):
Come on, man, what.

Speaker 2 (02:54:49):
Did I say?

Speaker 8 (02:54:52):
What?

Speaker 3 (02:54:52):
I don't understand? What the I don't understand?

Speaker 16 (02:54:55):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (02:54:55):
You know, And I went to a bar and it
was full of uh, you know, your fans or whatever,
and I, you know, I had my of course I
had my all the stuff on and it was sick
about it, right. But my whole thing is, I don't
understand why you guys so upset about it.

Speaker 7 (02:55:08):
Man.

Speaker 3 (02:55:09):
First of all, you know, she is the owner of
the team that was once here in Houston. Now she's there, okay,
so why shouldn't be should be able to wear that.
And second thing is I don't think she's really trying
to put it in you guys face like you guys keep.

Speaker 2 (02:55:23):
You here's against Houston at to back here.

Speaker 3 (02:55:29):
You know why what it does what it does ross
is actually it's healthy for the robbery. You know, it's
healthy to create more of a robbery with. So instead
of you guys feel like so pissed up and taking
it personal, just understand that it's more about marketing and
creating a better robbery for the for both franchises.

Speaker 2 (02:55:51):
I don't think it's look, I just think it's lame.
I just think it's it's loser behavior. You're trying you
have this terrible team that is three and fourteen, you're
trying to are these uniforms in the Saty year. I
think its absolutely one is intentional. You think it's an
accident that has happened times. The Texans went no, no, no,
I don't yet we're talking about you just said no.

Speaker 3 (02:56:12):
No, I said, what it is It is creating a rivalry, Ross,
That's all it is.

Speaker 7 (02:56:15):
You want to create a robbery.

Speaker 3 (02:56:17):
And I know, I know you guys take it with
it personal.

Speaker 2 (02:56:19):
It's not a personal No. You know, she makes it
personal to Houston. That's why she continues to do it.
When Houston comes into town. They don't do it when
the I don't know, the Bears of the Broncos or
the Browns or whoever comes into town. You don't think
it's personal on that on that side of Houston.

Speaker 3 (02:56:34):
I'm saying, no, No, What I'm saying, Ross, if you
just calm down for it, Okay. All I'm saying is Ross,
is that it's creating a ribbaly you guys trying to
make Dallas. You guys, your robbery and Dallas don't play
you guys. But once every four years, the natural robbery
is here between us, the Titans Orlis and you guys.

Speaker 2 (02:56:56):
Yes, the oilers aren't involved. The oilers have not existed
concurrently with the.

Speaker 3 (02:57:01):
Well exactly. But I'm saying it's still old Houston franchise.
That's all it is. So it's there's nothing personal, man,
And my last thing is it isn't personal. My last
thing is, yeah, we had a horrible year. We had
a horrible year, but don't forget you guys have four
horrible years in the row. So when you got to say, oh,
this horrible franchise, yeah we had a horrible year.

Speaker 2 (02:57:24):
I can't hear you from the playoffs, Chris. I'm sorry.
You know, like, no, I love Chris. Chris knows I
love him. No, I let y'all. You know, for for
Titans fans to try and defend that, like you went
to all this work. They posted a video of the
transformation of the stadium, but it's not but the Texans

(02:57:44):
fans and Houston is taking it personally. Give me a break. Yeah,
that's it's causing effect Amy Adams struck trying to make
it personal to Houston. The the Texans fans and Houston
football fans in general didn't say, oh, man, I can't
believe that there they might wear the those uniforms. No,
it was the Oilers, who are a retired name that

(02:58:04):
you won't use except for once or twice a year.
When you play the Texans and the jerseys that go
with them. Did they use the jerseys any other game
this year? No, to my knowledge, they did not. They did,
but I think they did. Last year they wore them twice. Okay,
I think this year this was the only time they
wore them, but I could have that wrong. But it's coincidental.

(02:58:25):
It's person to be when Houston comes to town. If
you had any balls, you try to wear them here
in Houston, but you know that won't happen because they
won't let you, which is proof that you're trying to
do something. And the fact that, like he's been dead
and gone for years now, she's following instructions, so she's
probably it was probably death band got Adams is like,

(02:58:46):
make sure you never give away the oilers colors. But
would you put it past a guy that was as
vindictive as that guy? And by the way, Titan's ignorance
out there that thinks that, hey, you know, you could
have had him, You could have kept him if you
just built two stadium. They had invested like sixty seven
million in the Astrodome, like I don't know, not even

(02:59:08):
a decade prior before they left. It was I don't look.
I don't even know because I was. I can tell
you the history sometime, but it's too boring. I was
like picking my nose in recess at that time, so
I wasn't paying attention to what kind of bonds he
was asking for and what we're getting voted for and
stuff like that. I think they did it in eighty
eight after he had threatened to move them to Jacksonville originally,

(02:59:30):
and then he's threatening to do it again, and it
was a war of attrition in a way, like he
kept on asking for more and more and more and more,
and then at some point the city of Houston tapped
out Niche though. I think that's why, like he got
even more bitter when the Texans turned around, like not
even three years later and awarded a new franchise to
Bob McNair and built that stadium and built it right

(02:59:51):
next to the Astrodome, as it's still dilapidated and sitting
there today. I think that's why he got really bitter
about it, and I think that's why she's still as
petty as she is. Okay, we have like thirty seconds
for you, Max, go ahead.

Speaker 15 (03:00:04):
I just like to say I agree with y'all on
the uniforms. I think it shows what the lack of
pass and taste that the oilers have always had and
always will as long as it's Adams family.

Speaker 2 (03:00:18):
Thank you, Thank you, and well just like the Oilers
they lost in back to back years, did the Houston Texans.
Hey Clinton, Yeah, thanks for hanging out. Well, I'm sorry
I couldn't do it longer. Just one segment.

Speaker 7 (03:00:31):
Yeah, you can go.

Speaker 2 (03:00:32):
Ahead and we'll hopefully clip that for Friday. That sounds great.
Appreciate you. I don't know why we don't get more
clips on your little talk to Man Dothews about that. Huh,
Man dotthews you have to be the animal. You have
to rhyme. Yeah, his name. I like to rhyme names
because Matt's like, you don't have to rhyme it. It's
just a name. But anyway, ad Wex gets when I
do that on our show. All right, web blanket, all right,

(03:00:56):
Well it is the Man Thomas Show with Ross but
it is also over sure thanks to what Matt Thomas
for being here for the first three hours. I don't
know if he's like, well, my contracts is three hours,
not a guy who makes fun of us. For never working.
I know, there he goes, there he goes, he'll be out.
Well he's not gonna be out. He will be on
location tomorrow. Thanks to all of you for listening, getting

(03:01:17):
involved with the show. I do appreciate it. Thanks to
Connor McGovern doing a great job producing as he always does.
Now this Adam will be joined by another atom. They
call it the A Team That's coming up next here
on Sports Talk seven nights,
