Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten on one
of AG's town Good morning and welcome you on Monday
edition of the Matt Thomas Show at Ross. This is
Sports Talk seven ninety every morning. The cops board inside,
the Alpy chump hook.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
On the way he got it, it's a thom expired,
it's a fine fund the time.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
The game, excellent pass, no hesitation, and Alpie sends us
to overtime.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Well, the NBA said there was point two left, which
was ridiculous. Bs bs bs. Jonathan and his girl at
the game last night. A very good luck charm for
the local basketball team. Not the little tome for my pockets.
But you know, yeah, I'll go. Let you got that

(00:58):
taken care of pockets and hit that hard. Well, they
already they were already too deep when I saw them.
Come on now, they were drinking beers like I'm planning.
I'm guessing. Yeah, yeah, look, let me tell you my
guess is it was all worth a big baby, especially
a game. Oh hey, how the hell are hey? Matthew?

(01:20):
Now did you you didn't we? You and I did
not text for an entire week, which is kind of
what we like to do, because you know what we
see each other fifty weeks a year, we don't. I
didn't think about you at all. Yeah, I was gonna
say the same for me. Uh you did you even
go to the phone much at all? The last six
or seven dollars? Actually so funny. You know, it's funny
you asked that, Matt. You know sometimes your instincts are impeccable.
Thank you. I was trying to stay off my phone

(01:41):
as much as possible while I was out because my
screen time had been creeping, creeping up and up and up.
I was trying to keep it under two hours every
day while I was out there, So I was trying
to I honestly. When I came back, I watched both
Texans game and I watched the last Rockets game. So
that's that was the catching up that I've done so far.
So I'm somewhat up to speak, but I'm also in
the dark about a lot of different things that are

(02:02):
going on. Well, we could do a game called does
Ross know? We could?

Speaker 4 (02:05):
I could?

Speaker 1 (02:06):
You know what we gotta do? Here're gonna to tell
the truth today. I know what happened in the Georgia game.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
About that?

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Yeah, that won't even I came back Saturday afternoon. So, oh,
so you've had so Really I could have. I could
throw a bunch of stuff at you. Yeah, probably, I'm
still I was still fairly disconnected. But yeah, coming back
on Saturday's clutch. You can just hang out and do
nothing on Sunday. Yes, is very nice. It's the day.
Like when you day overseas, you should always give yourself
a buffer day to catch yourself up on the Yes,

(02:32):
especially if you're gonna be jet lagged. It wasn't that bad,
but a nice rest day. I'm learning as I get older.
It's perfect for your vacation. How are the delays and
or TSA's at both airport? Zero? No, it's good. I
had no issue. And then the shutdown and the shutdown's
done right, Yes, okay, the shutdown was over. There's still
some flights that are being delayed. To find out a

(02:52):
long beach. You're out of there in five minutes. Yeah,
that's it. That's that's low key. The airport to go out,
there's just not a lot of fun unless you're trying
to carry on a tent with tent steaks and they're
calling them tent spikes and acting like they're really dangerous,
so you have to go all the way back out
check it late and him in hall and then go
back through security. And then I made it outkay, But
it was a little stressful there, Dark Grass, look at you,

(03:14):
Dark Bress. I'm like, they're tent They're tent steaks. They
don't have a sharp end. And they're like, oh, sorry,
look at it. There's like showing me the website on
their phone that I can't have tent spikes. I'm like,
they're not spikes, they're steaks. Was this TSA or Dark
Bress there? You're not going to go into the cockpit
and take over the plane with a bunch of flat
tent steaks. Is this airline or TSA? It was TSA?

(03:37):
Oh okay, And they're probably still pissy because they probably had,
you know, I need to a paycheck to come through.
I gotta be honest with you. I have tried, and
I don't fly a lot commercially these days, obviously with
the rocket stuff, but I have tried in the last
couple of years to really go overboard to be pleasant
to TSA people, because it is a very difficult job.

(03:57):
I were dealing with people first, so you're dealing with
hundreds of thousands of people. I'm assuming you don't get
tremendous amount of breaks. You're on your feet the whole time.
You're in charge of a very important thing like making
sure people don't bring guns and knives on planes. But
I do sense, and this is even before the shutdown
TSA people are getting crankier and and I don't I'm trying. Again,

(04:20):
I am the king of the benefit of the doubt,
but there have just been times because I literally want
to be as plot as possible, and they're still just
I don't mean a stereotype. We don't believe in stereotyping
on the show. But if you're gonna look at the
five grumpiest people that work for America, TSA is probably
at the top of the list. Yeah, I'm with you.
I tried to be now and I was very polite.
I was, I know, you know, I was very kind

(04:42):
of I wasn't well, maybe I wasn't super polite when
I was trying to argue if it's like spikes or steaks,
but I was you and I together and we try
to do what I was rude. Yeah, so it is
what it is, because, like you said, you're dealing with
idiots all day long. Yeah, and don't listen. The guy's like,
please take your jacket off, please put every thing in
the band. The guy doesn't put everything. A guy in
front of me doesn't take his jacket off, doesn't put

(05:04):
everything up. In how many years I told you do
not put water or any liquids in your bags. Get
rid of the water. They tell you this overtime. So
I would get mad too if I say, please empty
your water or get the rid of the bottle. Yeah,
people go, oh, I really forgot. I mean again again
benefit of doubt I give to the TSA folks. It's
again to you. Funny you say that literally. Another the
first time I went through, a woman in front of

(05:24):
me had a half a water bottle. She shows it
to the guy and says, is this okay? No, he's like, no,
you have to throw He's like you have to empty
that out? No, no, no. But like I said, I
would say, you know, eighty percent of the TSA folks
are as sweet and very nice, but that twenty percent,
that's a grumpy bunch. And I understand, all right, here's

(05:46):
what I'm not going to allow you to do today.
Me yeah, or people, you and the audience. Okay, uh
battle Red Ross. You're you're taking the day off today? Why?
Because that was a game that I would not use
the text. No, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
Wrong.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
The Tennessee Titans sucks. Okay, you had threety yards of
total offense. You sucked too. Hey asked that Kansas City
Chiefs if winds count, win's count. Baby, I don't care, John,
then shut up. I don't want to hear from you,
four man. What happened? We played to tell the truth
last week and I still in Kansas City as a
favorite the ANFC, and I lost the cole and I

(06:25):
was like, I might have to tell the truth, okay,
And I told him, Look, I waited till the Sunday
when Broncos beat the Chiefs, and guess what happened. Well, actually,
in Matt's defense, I think well, as of last week,
Kansas City Chiefs were the best market team. So Vegas
is still big Chiefs believers as well.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
So you have an ally, you have a friend in Vegas.
But that's a good friend to have.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
No.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
I did not see any of the Kansas City Denver
game because I was either driving to the rocket schemer
getting ready for it. So how in the world do they?
I mean, look, Denver's offense, we saw that firsthand. They're
not very good either. How did Kansas City struggle? Now
Jonathan was out cocktailing with his girls, so he didn't
get to see the game, eire. So if anybody happened
to see Casey Denver, what what happened? Travis Kelsey out

(07:09):
of the end zone and that whatnot?

Speaker 4 (07:10):
That was it?

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Twenty two to nineteen, Chiefs five and five. I'm still
not I'm still not backing off what I said. They
could miss the playoffs. They could miss the playoffs. There's
a three way tie for the eighth seed in the AFC. Now,
remember it only takes seven to get in. Jacksonville crushed
the Chargers yesterday. Jacksonville's are they the most jeculin hide

(07:34):
tear in the NFL? They are the most schizophrenic franchise
in the history of the NFL. They I mean, you
know how dog crappy looks like against the Texans er
a fourth quarter and then they just I was watching
red zone walls watching in Texas game. By the way,
I gotta be honest with you. I fell asleep twice
during the Texans game. Now I DVR it so I
can go back and check out it. Okay, I think
Davis Mills took us news in the first half too. Yeah,

(07:57):
I'm not letting you better around. You're not celebrating this game.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Why not? Because the game?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Because Okay, I'm not going to act like they're charging
towards the Super Bowl win. Baby, but there's gonna people
cussing and discussing it today like it was the greatest
thing since Slice. Nobody's calling it the greatest win since
I don't know nobody. You don't think anybody in markets win,
I'll qualify it. Not a single soul with a brain
in their head calling this a good, gutty win. Now,

(08:21):
I'll say this. We can have this conversation revisited on Friday.
You beat Buffalo in a short week when them coming here,
then we can go all in on the Texas making
those are vulnera three and a half point favorites of
the Bills right now. They did put a forty spot
against the Buccaneers. But Josh Allen's one of his worst
games ever as a pro was writing in this facility.

(08:41):
What a year ago, right, yes, sir, against this Texans defense,
which might even be better this year. Oh, I think
it's definitely better. Again. I don't know how Will Anderson
and daneil Hunter and Derek Stingley, who else, Henry toa
toa ash ear? How did they not want to throttle
the Nick Cassio. It's not all his fault. It's a

(09:05):
lot of it, a lot of it. Did you just
shield yourself for what was it? What was that offensive line? Yes?
I did. I don't want to watch this thirty five
to ten show up, fellas Jesus, sorry you have you
have a new best friend? Who's that? Kirk Kurbstreet? Why
he was? I mean loving on the Longhorns, beating A
and M and still getting into playoffs with the three

(09:25):
loss season. It's gonna be tough. Now if the game
would gone twenty seven to twenty four like they like
Georgia had won in the last kick or something, I
could probably buy any of that. I think that game
was closer than the final score, not that it mattered. No, No,
I I don't know. Thirty five to ten to me
still looks like that's someone that's gonna be too much
overcome and great so it'll be Houston versus Texas and

(09:46):
the Texas Ball. We'll have some fun. We'll go, we'll
sit together. That will be an ass whooping for the Kugs.
You've heard it here first, cougar's will might be issued.
Apologies after that ass whooping. Why it's for all them,
for all the trash. I'm talking. I'm big having some Friday.

(10:06):
Sorryes Hey, by the way, koog fans dot com, you losers,
what's you go? The game? On Saturday? We're playing. We're
playing three o clock at ts TCU. It's a decent time.
I don't care about eleven o'clock. I'm busy. It's too well,
this should be great, right, I think a cold front's
coming in through this week. I don't care. Three o'clock
TDCU Stadium, Senior Day eight and two. Let's go. Where
are they playing? TCU?

Speaker 5 (10:23):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Okay, they're asked picked by b WHYU? All right, there's
your Big twelve report, Thanks you, Matt. All right, Uh,
today at ten thirty, we have a feature that we
like to do after A and M home games, which
normally is lighthearted and fun, and there'll still be some
of that we're gonna read. We'll be reading ta Mu
police tweets today. It's thirkay, did you see what happened?

(10:44):
And yes I did, So we'll be getting to that too,
because that was a tweet DPS officer, DPS officer nigis
am I indicting you on I'm miss indicting the DPS
of the College station area. That's was a truly true,
embarrassing moment. But that's part of the Tamu you tweets.
So we'll read them, we'll check it out, we'll check

(11:05):
it out. I'll reserve judgment until then. I'll read them.
You cannot commentate? Why not? I guess you can your back.
I mean, what am I sitting in this chair for?
That's true, so you're kind of looking forward to the
next se I can just seet my tacos and kick
my feet up. Yeah, you'll have something to say eleven
fifteen to make O Ryan's gonna speak. We'll have to
tell the truth. Today at twelve thirty we get the
return to believe it and I thank god you're back.

(11:26):
I had to do the shows three days by myself completely,
and then I could come in for a couple of
hours on a couple of days doing five believer or
nots in a row in five straight days, a lot
of or oh my back on that. I'll give me
one more day off. No, you need to keep the
training middles On. No, no, I'm done. Yeah, I want
you to train Jonathan he needed to do some Believer
or not here, that's true. Yeah, I I need the arts. Yeah,

(11:47):
I'll give you this this seat. I'll tell you the
secret right now. Believable. Not is the secret to a
good believer? Believable not. If you see me put all
believe it's I mailed it. I think I did a
pretty good job this pack. I'm probad of you did
actually at all. But I'm proud of you. I know
you you. I didn't want you to listen. I want
you to effort. I want you to stay away from
the business for a week. It makes it makes you
feel better. Ten to fifteen on Sports Talk seven out

(12:09):
seven one three two one two five seven. Ati, if
you're a Texans fan and you want to call abroad
to your team beating the Tennessee Titans on the very
last play of the game, Nope, I want honest assessment.
Coming up in ten minutes, They're going to read some
A and M tweets from the police department, normally a rassy,

(12:31):
a light fun party, gofaw segment. Uh huh, Well nobody died, no,
but he was. I mean a lot of people are outraged,
and this guy needs to be fired and that guy,
and he needs to be relieved of his post and
he needs to be you know, strung up. Well, he
doesn't need to work anymore anyone into somebody. He was mad. Yeah,
he needs to suspended, but I don't think he needs
to lose his job. Cop overstepped his bounce. Never seen

(12:52):
that before, And then again, most cops are amazing people. Yes,
of course a DPS officer just wasn't in it. Didn't
have a great day. Mm hmm. Maybe he uh maybe
he saw Varsity's homes off prematurely by the way. Maybe
he had the South Carolina on the money line, I
mean on Texas and we got to get to my
son at the bottom of the hour. Son, my boys
went to the game. See okay, Uh, it took him
a while. Do you ever have something in your life

(13:14):
where you try to reach out to somebody and they're like,
I need some time before we talk about something. Not
usually oh, that's you after whatever. The latest Cougar's loss
is in the Final four. By the way, Cougar basketball
knocked off Auburn yesterday.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
One.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
We're welcome, you, welcome to who welcome to being supremacy
on top of the college basketball number one team in
the country. Let's go baby, let's congratulations. Yeah, it should
be a great season for the coup. I mean, Bruce
Pearl's son apparently was pissed off at the end of
the game. I didn't not see because I was frighted
out about that. I forgot Pearl Junior was in there. Yeah,
went in doubt, just hire your son? Sure, why not?

(13:48):
And you know the new the new thing is is
these older coaches that are hiring their sons. They were
resigning when two weeks have to go to the start
of the season. It's like, eh, falls in the last Yeah,
it just he's kind of there. So yeah, seventy three,
seventy two, the Cougars knocking off Auburn, and they called
it a neutral site game in Birmingham. But Birmingham to
Auburn's a couple of hours, okay, Like how Texas was
in a neutral site game in Charlotte playing Duke. Just

(14:11):
think you got all that look all that basketball, look
forward to coming up soon. Great. I haven't even checked
up on the boys. Okay, they're beating up on some
bad teams last I checked, all right, so let's get
to it. Look, Davis Mills isn't bad. He's not h
There was no running game to really speak up. I
thought the relationship between Davis and Nico was excellent because look,

(14:32):
Nicol's gonna make any quarterback look good and well. And
Davis made a couple of great throws. He did that
throw on that life drive right over the defense with
Nico Collins on the sideline. I mean that was That
was a big time NFL throw. It was yeah, and
Davis Mills, you know, honestly, it's it's really not that
much that separates the great quarterbacks from the mid ones.
It's a handful of throws a game. And thankfully he

(14:54):
was able to make a couple of those and keep
the guys in it. So let me give you some backups,
and I'm gonna just go for a couple that I
can think off the top of my hand. Malik Wallace
replaced Aaron Rodgers yesterday for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I take
Davis Mills over Midlake willis you know? Heartbeat? I got
one for you, Marcus Mariota or Davis Mills Mariota. It's close,

(15:18):
It is close. I'm trying to think of what else
is around. Who's the minute Who's the Minnesota quarterback that
started for a few weeks when Carson Wentz Carson Wentz
or Davis Mills Carson wins. Yeah, So put it this way,
it's in that he's in that group. Yeah. And isn't
Wonder Dalton Andy Dalton or Davis Mills. Uh, probably dn't

(15:42):
because he's done more of it. Yeah. I just pulled
up an s I ranking of backup quarterback. Davis Mills
was thirtieth. When was that last May? End of May?

Speaker 5 (15:52):
No?

Speaker 1 (15:52):
So yeah, okay, bump him up then he is two?
And oh no, great to Jacoby Presett over Davis Mills,
you would, okay, Mac Jones? Yeah? Yeah, for the Yeah,
but Mac has a better football team around now. I think, well,
at least if an offensive perspective youve got, if you
got McCaffrey, you're good. Kirk Cousins, they didn't win yesterday.

(16:13):
Joe Flacco, Oh Joe Flacco or Davis Mills. Joe Flacco
even though he was terrible. So maybe maybe maybe I'm
giving false hope to how good Davis Mills. He's he's
a guy, He's he's capable, he's a mid of the mids. Yeah. Uh,
I thought Tennessee was. I mean, Tennessee played like a
one win football team, terrible, lots of penalties yesterday, cam

(16:38):
Ward Rossy, he's had enough starts. He's throwing, He's throwing
rollout passes three yards behind his receivers. There were there
were two open plays. Now, he did have that one
great throw that ultimately got the game to overtime to
uh chigosiam o'conquo to three times fast. By the way,
did you think that Tennessee was gonna go for two

(16:58):
and go for the winner? Do you think going for
the kick was thing I'm gonna go with. I'm gonna
go first on this one. Okay. I think going for
the kick was okay because it wasn't like the Texans
offense was explosive during any part of the contest that
if you know what, if my defense can hold, I
got a better shot as compared to just maybe losing
the game on a final play. Yeah, it had been
such a slot fest that I didn't mind not going

(17:19):
for it there. I again, you and I have kind
of had this debate over the years. Nine times out
of ten for me, Rossie, I don't care what the
records are. I still go for the tie. I hate
when something goes down. I want to live for as
long as I can. You play to win the game,
and that depends. Are you on the road, are you
the worst team is? What's the state of your who
knows if you had some injuries or whatever. How are

(17:41):
you feeling? Yeah stuff? Yeah, yeah, I again, when he
went for the kick, I totally understood why they did that. Hey,
we're Tennessee or one. The last thing we need is
to add another loss on a play and when it
comes down to one play, So I didn't mind that
at all. But I I really I hate Titans. I

(18:01):
hate Amy Crunks drunk. I thought cam Ward by and
large was poor. Yes, he made a couple of big throws.
I'm not gonna say that he's done or anything like that,
but he's got some work to do. Well. You can
kind of tell late first seasons of quarterbacks, like when
Oliver luck Drew Lumbers going you could tell, you could

(18:23):
tell late first season that Peyton Manning was going to
be the guy who else recently, Trevor Lawrence never gave
us that and still doesn't to this day. Who's some
man's not necessarily a late bloomer. Oh, I'll tell you what.
Drake may late bloomer. I mean most of the second
last year was a hot mess. And now he's I
mean he is an MBA. Take can it? I mean
it's the hardest position in sports, and generally, when you're

(18:45):
the number one overall pick, you're on a terrible team.
And cam Ward is on that he's on a terrible team.
But he did there. He had two throws that a
decent quarterback could have completed that would have changed the
outcome of the game for sure. I'll give you another one.
How about going for that field goal after or was
it the fumble that they got? First of all, didn't
Will Anderson not get touched and run that fumble up?

(19:05):
They didn't get those yards? That's right, that's exactly right.
Second of all, it was a fourth and one at
the Tennessee twenty five and Demiko conservative Miko kicks the
field goal kicker who had joinked an easy kick early
in the game. Another one. How about to Mike on
these challenges too, he said, a horrible, terrible challenge. You

(19:27):
told him to challenge that. That's nicky see with the
headset on David. Yeah, we would like here too, four
to throw the challenge flag here, Thank you, nick And
you know, if the fly, if we get the calls
grave But don't go to the grounds of great you
know where you went on. We told what we can.
We know where some time we throw the flag and
you go, you say, you guess if you can take
the chance out of it. Like Christian Kirk easily lost
that ball. Somebody somebody on the replay hit paused they

(19:49):
saw the They must have saw the first broadcast replay
because they didn't show the whole incompletion of the cat,
which is terrible. I love the vibe of the Texans
game first half with atrocious. Now you notice the very
first drive of the third quarter where they score. What
do they do? They sped things up? Why does it
take an NFL offensive coordinator supposed to be elite in

(20:10):
his position coaching wise, why does it take thirty minutes
for him to figure out how to go and up
tempo through the Tennessee Titan defense. And I tell you,
I don't know this at all, but just from a
gut feeling, is that that Nick Kyley and Bobby Slog
before him are under instructions to not get too cute,

(20:30):
not get too crazy, establish the run, don't color too
much outside the lines. Lynn, let us win with defense. Okay,
so you're gonna say you're either bit around and play
around with a lousy Tennessee team though, I mean, and
they won the game. It's not ugly, but I'm sorry,
it's not pretty, but they but they didn't win because
they were methodical. They won because Tennessee didn't make some plays.

(20:51):
And the one drive that finally showed that the detectives
at a heartbeat took in the early third quarter for
that to happen. Well, yeah, if you want to go
up tempo and air it out, you know, throw every down,
you're not gonna want to do that with Davis Mills
and a bat on line on the road. So it's
kind of I don't know if it's the chicken or
the egg, or the bad personnel or the bad quarterback
play or instructions from the head coach. I don't know

(21:12):
what it is, but it surely ain't pretty when it
gets out there on the field. All right, So today
is a day where you get to not bring about
your football team. And I don't care if you're Letta
for you go. I don't care what he done calls,
but he calls all these shows excepting I'm not worried
about him. I ain't worried about it either. Come on, Larry,
you got stones call this show because I'm ready. You
are a little worried about it again. Well, I'm saying

(21:33):
that I would like for him to call this show
because I don't think you've faced much resistance. When he
calls all other shows. You face the resistance here. Oh okay,
we are the resistors. Wow, Lucion know if we had
a bad we call ourself the resistors.

Speaker 5 (21:48):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Three man band, huh. Jonathan on drums, sure, me and
the harmonica. You on the bass guitar. Ill thought we
were putting you on the tambourine. You have experience. I
can play a tambourine for the best of them. I
know him. Bring in harmonica. It is a Monday ritual

(22:19):
here on the Matt Thomas Show following a Saturday A
and M home game. Perhaps my favorite Twitter account, just
a handful of times a year is the texting in
Police of Twitter account. And uh they have seventy six
thousand followers. That's it. That's pretty good, Ryan need millions.
Well they content, it's really really good time. The game

(22:42):
day content is unmatched. Okay, so real quick before I start,
ready is go see what ut police is. I mean,
how they're doing. Because I don't even read their ut policy.
I have no idea who the guys al get ips
and all kind of stuff, get your games too, I'm
assuming they do, right, Yeah, good old UTPD. Uh, I
don't know. Doesn't look like they have a Twitter. Maybe
they don't, but this ain't m police. One is fantastic,

(23:04):
And the reason why it's fantastic is because we get
to hear about what people do at games, basically involving
alcohol and underage and overserving. Right, that's the gist of it.
Uh huh, So let's go back. I'll go back from
latest to or earliest to latest. This is again two
days ago, two days to kickoff. Let's beat the hell

(23:27):
out of South Carolina. Stay safe, hydrate be aware and
report anything suspicious that feels fair and right right h
Next MIP in section one A saw officers and attempted
to hide his drink. Citation issued. Hashtag btho South Carolina.
Can you not have alcohol in that stadium? Because I
know you can in the Texas Stadium in the Houston Stadium.

(23:48):
But he was just because he's young, maybe, yeah, it
says mip so. Next MIP one hundred day saw officers
and drop drink on ground. Citation issued. So somebody's just
knocking back a cold beer and goes oops and then
just drops it. Why don't these kids just putting bourbon
in a coke cup like we did back in the day. Yeah,
I mean talk to your elders about this. Come now,

(24:10):
this rookie stuff. Next m I P Times two saw
officer and pass drink to friend. Another subject. Saw officer
and through drinking the trash. Citation issued. Let me ask
you this, if you getting if the if the kids
are getting rid of the drink and throw in the trash,
yeah you just let them just go on and be
the do their thing or do you think they're gonna

(24:30):
go back and get some more? But yeah, the mips
are coming out free flowing there like the drinks were apparently.
Next m I P saw officer and tried to hide
beer in red solo cup. Citation issued. Why don't you
put it in the solo cup and then walk around
with it? What are we doing here, folks? Yep? Next

(24:52):
fail to I D and m I P. There was
a two times provided false saw officer and put drink
down per provided false name and do beat officer. Come
on now, yeah, that's gonna get you. Now you can't
be doing that. I mean, if it's just come clean,
take the l Yes, pay the fine. Tell mom and
dad is what Mom and dad probably did the exact

(25:13):
same thing when you were doing it. You cannot get.
You cannot say Rossville Reale born December of whatever, you
were born in December nineteenth. Next, this was under capitalization
neat n E A T is that is that a senate?
What do they call it for? Something? Probably subject removed
a sixteen ounce metal light from shorts after entering station

(25:38):
Neighborhood Enforcement Alcohol Team. No. So the question I want
to ask all of you listening to us this morning,
have you ever put a sixteen ounce miller of light
in your shorts. I've had I've had a tall can
in my shorts. What next, seat the acronym not neat

(26:05):
but seat subject with two MIKEL of Ultras in pocket
was ejected. Ultras, huh, Ultras A nice Saturday. The kids
are into Ultrus. There that the low carblow calori. Yeah,
but it's like it's like one more calorie than a
miller likes. So basically, if you're drinking too, should you

(26:26):
be really be giving? Given the back kids some grief.
Seat And nobody's ever played a basketball game for an Ultra?
Please for an Ultras said, no one ever wors commercial

Subjects stated she wasn't drinking, but she was just throwing

(26:48):
it away. Yeah, I'm not drinking this. I'm throwing it
away for a friend. Get off my back. This is
the good stuff. I will you. Police. Next, we are
aware of the incident in the Northeast Tunnel involving a
DPS trooper. Oh boy, he has been relieved of his
game day assignment. There's a Debbie Downer. Next, t AMU

(27:17):
police retweeting Texas DPS. The Texas Department of Public Safety
is aware of the incident that occurred today during the
Texas A and M football game. The EPs trooper involved
was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General,
known as the OIG is also aware of the incident
and we'll be further looking into the matter. No additional

(27:39):
information will be released at this time. And that was
the last tweet from A and M police, and that
was it looks like Saturday, right, Yeah, So they were like, Ah,
we're gonna go ahead take the rest of the day off. Well,
my guess they're probably gonna be worried about the fans
being mad about being down thirty to nothing at thirty
to three or whatever it was. They came back gutsy win,

(28:03):
gutty win over a tough South Carolina. Yeah. Yeah, So
for those of you that do not know, my middle
son is the most emotional Aggie you'll ever hear from
your entire life. Calm and cool when things are down
is not in his repertoire under any circumstance. His brother,
his oldest brother, Cameron, and a longtime texta tech fan,

(28:26):
but wan't spend time with his brother, and for that
I love him. Before that, we grew up an Aggie fan,
grew up an Aggie fan, but decided to go to
the Texta Tech university. And so he's reporting to his
mother and I about how his brother is behaving, yes
and losing his blank going out of his mfing mind.
It was three nothing, then it got worse, got worse,

(28:50):
got worse and got worse. So then Peyton, my middle
is texting his mother saying I want to leave, and
Cameron won't, will not leave with me. Now, Peyton certainly
could do that because we sell of an apartment in
College Station. We've got until July, so oh okay. They
actually Peyton could go on his own, but he felt like, look,
I can't go by myself. I'll probably do something stupid
or say something. And so Cameron told Peyton, he said, look,

(29:11):
if things aren't any better by the end of the
third quarter, we'll leave. Well, things got better. Yeah, this
is a lesson for the young lad This is an
important lesson. Softly, they won the game. I had finished
doing it. I was doing a uage volleyball game against
Betlter on Saturday, and I texted Peyton, I said, can
you talk because the game was at eleven o'clock and

(29:32):
about two forty five game it over and he says,
I don't want to talk right now. I need to
think about things for a while. Huh, that's good. So
they drove back from College station and we had a
nice visit face to face, but he had wanted no
part of talking to me until he got back to Houston,
even after they won. Yes, because he knows I've told
him many many times sports is not fun. He didn't

(29:55):
want to hear. And I told you so, yeah, I said, no,
what you don't win everything? I said, you are ten
and freaking out? I said, you do you realize how
good you have it? Look at my friend. I'll just
go I'll rhyme his names. Dawson's team was preseason number
one of the country and they're gonna play Georgia there

(30:16):
in the night where uh Cooper Manning or whatever the
hell is arch Manning's gonna throw about four yards per attempt.
That's not true, and he's gonna have no run game
to speak of. D Line was okay, Oh, line out
so great? I said, so things can be worse. You
could be a Texas fan and he's like, you're right, dad,

(30:36):
hold on now, hold on now, I slipped that and
I'd made that up or did I don't know. There's
no battered longhorn syndrome that I know of. So, by
the way, shame on you, A and M by the way,
because I do love you. Uh there are rumors on
the streets that Mike out Co is getting extension and
a big contract race. Oh okay, somebody had seen how

(30:57):
I got off the plane and somebody were not. Somebody
said was announced? Was that a joke? No, it wasn't announced.
But uh, A and M media relations told the reporters
there don't ask about it, and the reporters are like,
f you, what are you talking about? You can't tell
us what we can gain ask. So that's number one
for you today's kids. When media pr flax tell you
what you can't ask ask it right away, Yes, because

(31:22):
that's you can't control the narrative unless you're unless you're
Aggie twelve man Aggie network dot com. There's a lot
of that for sure, all right, ten forty six, It
is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. If you want
to chime in, if you are a realistic Texans fan
call in today and talk about how your team realistically
played yesterday. Defense is outstanding, offense did literally just enough

(31:45):
rockets with a huge win last night. We'll get to
that coming back seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. Demico speaks in one half hour here on
Sports Talk seven ninety So a couple of AGGI sources,
one being my buddy Wade, two being locked on. Gore
said that Mike Elcho's deal has been extension has been signed.
I don't it's what I don't know. I haven't a

(32:06):
chance to look at the details of that. Public they
will be it's a public university, Yeah, that's for sure.
But the thing was is that A and M's like, well,
you know, we don't. This isn't the time. If it's
out there, it's always the time. And by the way,
it's not a bad thing. You didn't get a reduction
in your contract. You said, you know what, we like
Mike Elco. We're gonna get him some extra time. So

(32:27):
apparently our buddy Josh c h sent us and says that, yeah,
it's not on the Twitter account. She said, we ain't
going nowhere. So the wife is signing the contract too.
How about that. I didn't realize the wife had to
sign the deal too. She's got to sign off on it.
Oh she's gonna say yes, she says how much? Okay, fine,

(32:53):
actually talked about this while you're gone a little bit.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
Okay, they had to do this. There are too many
jobs open. Oh yeah, yeah, they did too many jobs.
No they didn't, they did, they did do.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Let them get higher, way and keep shelling out fifty
million dollars a year for nil and find a good
competent coach. Yeah, Mikel Cole was not on anybody's hot list.
Mikel Nobody said Mikel coo is the greatest thing since
sliced spread. And I'm not saying that any coach can
do it. I'm saying you find a certain level of competency,
and you you shell out of millions and millions and
millions and millions for nil. We'll see. And how's if

(33:26):
they're saying they had to do it? What if they
lose to Texas lose the as a As a certain
SEC expert was laying out recently to us, Matty, is
it what if they lose to Texas lose the Big
twelve championship and they maybe win one playoff game. Is
everybody gonna say, can't gotta have Mike el Coo, He's
the greatest thing ever. You gotta do this. I don't

(33:46):
think so. The reality is, you win a little bit,
you get a contract extension and bump immediately, and if
you lose a little bit, you'll lose your job. I
think I think these I think these coaches. I mean,
these schools have to start getting smarter because Jimmy's exit
and the boys are playing the game with them. They're
getting all this huge money, they're giving all these huge buyouts.

(34:07):
I don't know. It just seems insane to me, especially
when you consider that I don't know how much public
funds is being used, but they're they're lighting money on
fund Do you understand when as soon as trev Alberts
took over at Texas A and M, he was in
the middle of that Fisher buyout crab right, mm hmm.
They laid off people. They literally laid off people to

(34:30):
start paying the Fisher buyout. Okay, yeah, that's that's my
point being made. So guess who didn't learn their lesson
Texas A and M. That's why I'm saying they don't.
They don't have to do that, but they did. I'm
not saying Mike Elchoes grow on trees. But what has
he done at the end of the day, if people
were saying Steve Starkeisan hasn't won anything, which some people
are saying, what does Mike Olco want? You're getting the

(34:53):
bumps a lot faster and you're getting fired a lot faster.
It's ridiculous. It's a gross misallocation of public funds. Well,
it's really Booster's paying it, right, I mean when at
the end of the day, Well, if you're saying people
are getting laid off at the it's costing people jobs,
well that on the on the fisher by it it
was for sure, Yeah, we us I have a question

(35:14):
for you though, Yeah, I mean since you say, like
he they shouldn't have resigned them, but what about the
recruiting and like uh and keeping that product coming to
a how many more years was Elcho under a contract?
His contract's not in in this year or next year
or the year after. Oh see, I don't know that. Yeah,
he was on a lame duck under any circumstance. Yah,
he's a second year there I think he probably find
he probably generally it's a five six year deal. Let's
see if I'm on Google, so if I'm going an

(35:36):
extension update here and uh Okay, the new contract six
year extension with A and M making more of the
highest paid coaches, average salary exceeding eleven million dollars. The
new contract runs from twenty twenty six to twenty thirty one. Okay,
he was previously earning seven million dollars, which ranked him

(35:57):
thirty second among FBI's coaches. Well, he was gonna go
if he was at seven million. Yeah, all this is
out there, This is this is huge.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Yeah, Bran, I mean he got a big So let
me ask you this, Aggie, you just lost your mind
when you gave Jimbo the huge extension.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Could things turn south for Mike Calgo in two years?
Of course it could. It's not like am has his
sustained success. This isn't a team that's universally a top
fifteen team year in a year out. Now, maybe they
think Mike Chalco is a difference maker, but ROSSI, they
just they're giving him eleven million dollars a year now. Granted, granted,

(36:43):
their stadium is super full. They just signed a super
big third party marketing rights deal that's the most lucrative
in college athletics, and the SEC TV deal just kicked
in with the SEC. Now the SEC games are all
on ESPN, ABC, Slash Disney, so there's more money come

(37:04):
in that direction too. Yeah, if he's making seven million,
obviously he needs a bump from that.

Speaker 5 (37:11):
No he doesn't.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Using your thoughts, I'm gonna go with you, No he doesn't.
He's more likely to go somewhere then if he's gonna
go from seven million to like fifteen million at Florida
or something like that. Yeah, but I'm just thinking in general,
guys are getting resigned too fast and then getting let go.
And I mean, how many I wonder if we could
figure it out or find out how many millions and
millions and millions are being paid in coach buyouts. Well,

(37:36):
coach salaries are insane. Let's go to who's being bought out.
We're gonna Florida State. It's going to buy out Norvale.
You've already got Florida looking for a guy. You got
Penn State, you got Lsu. Oh, by the way, did
you see my tweet? LSU is the city of the
state's like bankrupt and they're dropping fifty mil I replied
to Gordy on a tweet over two point two million views?

(37:59):
You did? Yes?

Speaker 5 (38:00):
How many?

Speaker 1 (38:01):
That good? How many views did he get? I think
I piggybacked off him. Okay, yeah, okay, so you were
you were the barnacle on the on the Gordy Express.
I was gravy training off of him, like Ben Vanlin
or gravy teens off of Justin Verlander. I'm proud of you, Matt,
glad your views are up. So you know, I'm thinking
about I'm gonna have to go to the blue check mark.
Go ahead, because I want to make I want to
make fifteen bucks on that that had been a fifteen

(38:22):
I don't think it's fifteen. That'd be a fifteen dollars.
I think it would have been like a dollar. I'll
take it. Go ahead and don well it's costing you
eight a month?

Speaker 4 (38:28):
Ooh?

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Can I come on that? Can I do enough good
tweets to justify eight dollars a month? In pavement? See?
And this is how you end up with a horrible website.
Can I make enough waves to get enough views to
make my eight dollars back and you end up with
a dumb ass, ridiculous website like Twitter. Good job Elon.
All right, sorry, that's another thing against you, mattys. Brian

(38:51):
says he disagrees with y'all on the bar on the
ELKO conversation. We will hold that to start the next
hour plus fifteen minutes. We're going to talk and Molly,
you and I won't talk. Looking for this, where's this
Gordy tweet tweeting about no I was talking about how
he was he was mad about LSU. Shouldn't have to
pay out all the money left over to uh Brian
Kelly because he got fired. Oh you know what, I

(39:12):
think your tweet and here like he signed the contract,
et cetera, et cetera. I think they ended up in
my for you tab that's unfollow Well, you're getting hacked
every other week, that's true. Is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross Texans beat the Titans at the gun? The

(39:36):
kicker named Matthew coming through. Matthew right, Matthew right, The
kick was right. Oh, I could have done a lot
of that. Oh, here we go. I could have rock
and rolled that bad boy all over the time. The
dad jokes are right there in front of all of us.
Rockets win last night. Thank you Albria Channgon and Kevin Durant. Yes,

(39:56):
first time all season that Kevin Durant took more than
twenty shots and game one of the best to ever
do it. I'm telling you Ross and I literally feel
like I'm repeating myself. When he gets the elbows, which
is the free throw line, the left up you know,
I look at elbow would look like a left and
right elbow. I don't why I'm doing this somewhereround you
know why you're kung fu fighting. I'm doing miss no,

(40:19):
no a miss though, all right, just make the point please.
He's perfect from just he's from the elbows. Yeah, he's
one of the great one of the greatest, the greatest
mid Everybody else would do it. No, Mike D'Antoni would
let him do it, because you know why. He let
Chris Paul do mid range. Everybody said that. I don't know,
but because you know why, Because Chris Paul can make those. Yes,

(40:40):
because Kevin Durant can make the J Tucker can't PJ Tucker.
We're good. Trevor Reesa, Yeah, maybe go step behind three
point line Trevor Corey Brewer, please note, all right college
football this weekend. Uh the Aggies come back. My son
didn't speak for several hours after the game. He was
an emotional hot mess. How was was he any remorse?
Any contrition from him? After you give him the eye?

(41:02):
Old old your dad told you so?

Speaker 5 (41:04):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (41:04):
No, he just he said bleep off. Well, yeah, he
swears at me more than he should. But I love
him so much that I just let it just go
in one ear and not the other. Okay, yeah?

Speaker 3 (41:18):
Uh and his brother think, I mean, his brother is
cool as a cucumber.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
I mean, his brother's team is kicking u cfs. But
he's just like he's there to be a good older brother.
It was it was my younger bro and and my
painting is just losing his mind. It was South Carolina?
Is he going to? Is he going to Austin? No? Okay?
Would you take him? No? Why would I sit with
your son? Well, who's gonna be losing his mind? If

(41:45):
and when the long rains win? Correct? Why would I
want to be next to that? Because you're not going
to enjoy myself. Because Uncle Ross is Bob Payton. Before
you got I met that brother once. I'm not taking
him to the game. I mean, I wish him the best.
It's actually smart on your I don't want to stay. Yeah,
I don't want to stand next to him. I would
put that up in that situation. Maybe if we were

(42:07):
watching the game, but uh, I don't know. Big City Wings. Yeah,
that might be a different situation, but not at the time.
I don't want to be in the stands because he'd
be like, I gotta go believe while you're going crazy
because you're wearing your orange, and he's yes, I will be.
You know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna te I'm
gonna buy him a movie pass. He's not gonna be
able to watch any Texas. It's just easier for him

(42:27):
that way. Well, good luck. Yeah, I think he'll I
think he'll take it to me upout it, Okay, I
think I can. I can convince him to not watch
take his phone before he goes to the movie. Yeah,
no phone nothing, Okay, shoot on your phone on the
movies anyway. No seven one three, two one two five
seven ninety. Brian is with It's opening up the eleven
o'clock hour.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Brian, good morning, Hey, good morning, guys, I just wanted
to defend my Aggie's extension of Mike Elko. I think
it's a good move considering all the you know, battered
Aggie syndrome we've had to deal with with these past
coaches speak like different sport, but the battered age syndrome
was pretty real. After we lost the baseball Mattie and

(43:06):
our coach went and left after he said he wasn't
going anywhere, And there is a point that there's a
bunch of openings right now. So I think it was
a good move to extend Elco when we did. I
hope we don't make the mistake of leaving a blank
national championship trophy like we did with Wimbo with Jimbo.
But I mean, we haven't done anything for sure, But

(43:26):
I mean we we are now doing what we've never
done before, which is beutenant of undefeated in conference play.
We pretty much got a playoff spot secured. We might
even be to the point where, if you know, we
go in a loving and no to Texas, do we
rest starters and not even takes.

Speaker 1 (43:43):
Starters? You know, on.

Speaker 2 (43:48):
My agis, guys definitely are horn fanboys, and sometimes the Horn.

Speaker 1 (43:53):
Boys well First of all, the Aggies haven't won a
national championship since Hitler was invading Poland. Second of all,
Ran Howard, let's be honest. Okay, now, let's let's throw
the you know we're just bantering with each other. Let's
be serious. Let's be serious, Brian, how did you have
two questions for you? How did you feel when Mike
Elko was hired? And then how did you feel after

(44:14):
the eight and five season last year and losing the LAS.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
Yeah. I'm not really a fan of defensive coaches as
much as offensive coaches, so I kind of get I
was a little disappointed with Alco. But after last season,
you know, the eight and four curse continued, But I
didn't want to not give him his chance, like, you know,
prove it to me that you know you can earn
these millions of dollars. And I think whatever he told

(44:41):
the guys on Saturday, I have time to get them
to play the game that they should have played from
the very beginning. I think that's gonna be worth every
penny in the future. And just the way that he
has shaped the culture now and these boys believe in him.
I don't think any player or any locker room has
really believed in the coach the way he's got do
in a long time, And I'm really happy with the

(45:03):
direction we're going, and I'm glad that he's proven me wrong.
Going down thirty to three at halftime, I was like,
you know what, we might not come back, but I
never gave up hope, and we pulled off the biggest
comeback in school history.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
Yeah, what if? How much different would you feel? He
would be the same coach if a couple plays went
the other way and A and M lost to South
Carolina this week, and he would be the same exact
guy person, all the same football knowledge, and you would
feel differently about this extension, don't you.

Speaker 2 (45:30):
Think I would wait till the sext game and if
we do the same oldcraft that we do against the
big schools and we have the same performance that we
did last year against you guys, and I think I
would be like, well, maybe the extension wasn't worth it.
But right now, like he has my confidence and he
has my vote, and considering you know, all the ways

(45:50):
we've been burned by these deals with these coaches, some
of them didn't pan out well, like with Jim, both
didn't turn out at all how we wanted to, and
I mean, things are finally looking good for us, so
I'm just gonna enjoy it because I've been in Aggie
for a while now and things have not been I
thinks I haven't been great for us in a long time,
and they finally are. So whatever happens this season, of course,

(46:12):
I want us to win it all, win the Natty,
but I'm I'm with Elco all the way until he proves.

Speaker 1 (46:17):
Otherwise, all right, thank you very much, which could be
two seasons now. I'm just kidding. I think Mike Calco
has been fantastic. I mean, they're reaching levels right now
they've never reached before. So you have to you have
to live in the here and the now. Who is Yeah,
but people weren't saying that when they're down thirty to
three half aarn't. That's what I'm saying. We are, So
we're trapped in the moment so much. And I'm not
saying this because it's Aggie's I know Brian saying, but

(46:38):
it ain't fans anymore. It's administrations. It's University of president, yes,
it's university presidents. It's everyone, and I don't know what
the solution is and and maybe I'm just too much
on my soapbox, but it's ridiculous. The season is not over.
He's saying they deserve that he's earned this extension. They
haven't won a conference championship. They haven't even made the

(47:01):
conference championship game yet. They're going to but they haven't yet.
They have the playoffs has yet to be played. If
they somehow lose to the Long Horns and the end
of Georgia, this is all plausible, by the way, somebody
whispered in in trev Alberts here, Mike's gonna be on
the lookout for a new job. That's you know the way.
If there I'll give you. I'll give you this guarantee. Ross,

(47:22):
we get to break here. If there are three jobs open,
not twelve, Mike's not hearing about this, well, then getting
to sign him to this deal? Then why can't you
sign him to that deal? Is he just gonna up
and leave. I'm thinking, why do you have to do
it right now in the middle of November, Because I
think these coaches getting fired earlier was for a reason

(47:43):
to get people's names out, to go get the best
of the best that's out there. Okay, that's the reality
of it. And then you you you sent them, you
get them in the same deal. The season hasn't even
played itself out. Yea, Aggies are gonna be pissed if
they lose. You don't if they lose three of their
four or five less games. Alberts did not want to
hear Mike Elcho's name being attached to Florida or to
l s U or to Penn State. Period into story.

(48:05):
Let's get to Dimico. He's next at eleven twelve on
Sports Talk seven ninety. All Right, Danico's gonna talk a
couple of minutes. We'll get to that. So we're gonna
just hold off until he does by getting an editing,
super controversial or conversational. By the way, today's edition of
To Tell the Truth is at twelve thirty today, Ross,
I'm gonna really put you guys the test. I'm gonna

(48:27):
have five takes, four of which I believe. Time to
get out and John than not happy after the last
week when I said a Kansas City is still the
favorite of in the AFS favorites to win the AFC
and you believed that, Yeah, okay, I do believe it.
It's a week two week league, all right, so let's
do that here, we let's go to here.

Speaker 7 (48:46):
Demiko good for to have Kayami back this week, so
we'll see how that goes. And with with CJ and
Jalen will kind of again, we got to see how
the week goes. You know, when they're in their concussion protocol,
there are steps they have the past to be available,
so we'll see how it goes for them this week.

Speaker 4 (49:03):
Can you handle that?

Speaker 8 (49:05):
With it being such a short week and say CG
and not having played many of the practice in a
couple of weeks, you obviously going to healthy.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
But I think it's healthy.

Speaker 9 (49:13):
How do you?

Speaker 8 (49:14):
How's the decision then decided about whether or not to
put 'em on the field and such a short beak.

Speaker 7 (49:18):
Yeah, look, we're we're hopeful for CJ to get back healthy.
That's the first and first thing, the most important thing,
and for me and my spots just have to deal
with it based on when they pass the steps they
need to pass and if they are available, then being
able to see them on the field, see them get
reps and see how that goes. But as of right now,
it's kind of nothing. You know that I can do.

(49:40):
You know, from my from my seat here, I'm just
and praying for those guys to just be get back healthy.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
What do you think about the Bills, especially after their
offensive performance yesterday.

Speaker 7 (49:50):
The Bills are a really really good team. Coach mc
germany has done a great job, you know, since he's
been there. They're always a contender, play great defense. Of course,
they have a great quarterback and Josh Allen who can
make any type of play you need him to make.

Speaker 4 (50:06):
So it's it's a.

Speaker 7 (50:07):
Challenging opponent coming up this Thursday for us. Uh, We're
up for the challenge as always as every opponent, so
we're looking forward to it. They have done a really
good job. They go for running and running the football,
and you know Josh can move around and make those plays.
You have to cover them twice for sure, you know,
with his scramble ability and also done a good job
of mixing up some QB run game as well. He

(50:29):
does a good job of that, you know, escaping the
pocket making plays, and we have to do a much
better job defensively of controlling that because we've let a
few players get out on us when we allow the
quarterback to scramble.

Speaker 4 (50:41):
So it'll be a really big challenge for us.

Speaker 7 (50:43):
Defensively, the offensive side for us, you know, they're they're
fast defense. I mean they run, they hit, they play fast,
they play physical, their sound and their assignments, they're gonna
be where they're supposed to be, not a ton of
bust on their tape. They they play together, they play fast.
So you know, we have to do a good job
of trying to sustain drives as best we can.

Speaker 4 (51:05):
You know, trying to winning on third down be key
for us.

Speaker 7 (51:08):
We didn't do a great job on third down this
past week, so that'll be key third down, and then
we have to finish drives in the red zone. Hasn't
been great for us on both sides, so we got
to do a great job of finishing drives, defense, winning
offensive win and red zone.

Speaker 1 (51:21):
What have you learned over the years about how to
approach this short week for Thursday Night campist?

Speaker 7 (51:25):
Yea, what the short week is for me? What I've
learned most is don't talk about how much of a
short week it is. Like everybody goes and here it's
a short we get it, like, let's wrap it up
and let's go. Like everybody has the same amount of time, like,
let's do what we have to do to go out
and have ourselves physically and mentally prepared to go play.

Speaker 5 (51:47):
We got to touch on the the chemistry last couple
of weeks with Davis and with Nico and.

Speaker 1 (51:53):
Sixteen catches something like that bunch of targets and how that.

Speaker 7 (51:56):
Can action and Davis and Nico and they've they've done
it before and they can you to do it. They're
doing a good job. Davis is doing a good job
of finding the right guy. Throw it down there to
twelve and he's gonna make a big play for us.
Those those guys are doing a really great job. And
you know it's no bigger player than the third and sixteen.
I mean to play that Nico makes the catch to

(52:16):
be able to get both feet.

Speaker 4 (52:18):
Down, so out standing and play.

Speaker 7 (52:19):
Great job by Davis of giving him opportunity to finish
that playing bounds. So you know, when we needed a spark,
we needed to get going, like we started to feed
the ball and our best player at Nico, and he
showed up and showed why he's one of the best
receivers in the league.

Speaker 10 (52:34):
Send you from Dalton Schultz. As far as the great
the termination that he played through. I think that on
that last drive that you all had for the game
win the field goal, he made a big catch, but
he also made a big block on sevens on that
thirty sixteen to be able to help me go get
that catch.

Speaker 7 (52:50):
Yeah, Dalton continues to play really great football for us
to get the drive started there in a two minute
That was a huge play in the two minute drive.
That doesn't get talked about a lot, but that was
big for us to get going. And he's made play
out to play for us each game shows up and
the critical moments, making plays, you know, and he's fighting
through you know, as everybody is at this time, fighting

(53:12):
through injuries and things of that nature. But he continues
to scrap, he continues to battle like it's important to
him to go out and play his best for his teammates,
and he shows that he puts it on the line
every single week.

Speaker 4 (53:24):
And I'm proud of the toughness and grit that he's showing.

Speaker 9 (53:28):
You guys had primarily what he marks as the ball
carrier for the offense.

Speaker 7 (53:31):
What did you make of his performance and what created
some of the challenges of the run game Yesterday? Had
the challenges in the run game or sweat and Simmons
that those are. It's tough to run against those guys.
And you know, we we had our hands when we
knew that going in. But we were able to turn
out some yardage here and there. I man, we didn't
hit a ton of explosive in the run game, but

(53:53):
though we you know, for the most part we did. Okay,
still some yards to be had out there. We can
do an even better job of finish and some blocks
and running it better.

Speaker 9 (54:01):
I know Will's been a great player for you guys
since you got here, But what do you think about
this current trutch zone where he seems to make these
huge plays like every.

Speaker 4 (54:08):
Week, let's keep it going.

Speaker 7 (54:09):
Well, he's doing a fantastic job of not only disrupting
the quarterback, but being in position get the quarterback down
to take the football, making game changing plays. That's who
Will Anderson is and we hope that street continues.

Speaker 9 (54:24):
You mentioned it a minute ago about the red zone,
maybe even goal to go.

Speaker 11 (54:26):
Defensively, been so good everywhere else on the field, just
not nearly as good as the red zone and Goldville,
is that anything you're seeing from your defense that isn't
getting done there.

Speaker 1 (54:34):
Be the zone.

Speaker 7 (54:35):
Yeah, defensively in the red zone, we gotta make the
play like we gotta be we're supposed to be and
we have to make the play. That's that's it in
the red zone, like there's no other way around it.
Always tell our guys at any given point in the game,
like you're gonna have a one on one opportunity and
it's your job to go make the play when you're
in position, like you have to finish and make the play.
We've been there a lot of times in the red

(54:56):
zone defensively and we have not made the play. So
we gotta we got we gotta get on the right
side of that right. We gotta just finish better. So
he coach comes to assignment football and Josh Allen some
of the multi dimensional foots he does.

Speaker 4 (55:11):
We're some good rules of thumb, best practices.

Speaker 6 (55:14):
When you play a guy like that in last year,
I's see you just had some success against him.

Speaker 7 (55:18):
Yeah, when you playing against Josh out, everybody just has
to remain discipline, Like especially as we're rushing our rush lanes,
everybody just has to rush with integrity, understand it's quarterback
and escape the pocket anywhere. So you just have to
have awareness and remain discipline for four quarters. Right, if
you get out of a gap, if you fall asleep
on a play, you not playing with awareness, like, that's
when he that's when he can gut you.

Speaker 4 (55:40):
So you just have to play with awareness for four quarters.
You can never let up.

Speaker 1 (55:44):
Cause when you have to.

Speaker 10 (55:46):
When you going through a game plan preparing for a
team hollering you on the offensive side of the ball,
think about how many plays this played player's gonna give him.
But use for an example, jay Lenole, who a couple
of weeks ago had a lot of tarkets, had a
lot of routes, and then you know we've seen if
they go over the last two weeks, he is targets
and rosst increased.

Speaker 4 (56:04):
How do you all game plan for that to get
it more involved?

Speaker 7 (56:07):
Yeah, we man, Look, I I want Jalenoele in there more,
getting more opportunities.

Speaker 4 (56:11):
Sometimes how the game goes, whether it's run plays.

Speaker 7 (56:15):
We have different personnel groupings for different plays that we're running,
So just also depends on the flow of the game.

Speaker 4 (56:21):
Right, and of course everybody wants him in more. We
want this guy in more.

Speaker 7 (56:25):
We understand that like, we're trying to get guy as
many guys opportunities as we can, and that's a good
problem to have. We have a lot of good guys
in the receiver room that can go and make plays
for us, and that have shown that they can make
plays for us at any any given moment of the game.

Speaker 2 (56:40):
How did you play?

Speaker 1 (56:41):
How did you feel about this offensive line combination? Yesterday?

Speaker 4 (56:45):
We thought the offensive line did a good job. I
thought they did a good job.

Speaker 7 (56:47):
And you know, for the first time having that group
out there, they work well together and did some really
good things.

Speaker 4 (56:53):
Then on Daniel Hunter, Oh, I'm coming out of the
game that Daniel is fine.

Speaker 11 (56:58):
How do you feel about the operations point and season
between you and the communicating that you're getting from the
people to determine when to throw your challenge flat.

Speaker 4 (57:07):
It's been, it's been, It's been good.

Speaker 7 (57:08):
You know, the one that we challenged there, of course,
I mean the guy didn't Looking back at it, he didn't.
We didn't complete the we didn't complete the catch through that,
we didn't survive the ground, So looking back at it,
probably shouldn't have shouldn't have thrown him. But I feel
like the guys saw something that I didn't see up top.
And that's why you know, in the first half there,
it's not like we're losing it and losing time out.

(57:28):
It's not a not as big of a deal as
it would be, he says. In the second half when
that timeouts are very critical.

Speaker 8 (57:35):
We talk a lot about it obviously the meal and
will understandably.

Speaker 1 (57:39):
Can you talk a little about just the continued play of.

Speaker 2 (57:43):
Hell ya and what you're getting from here?

Speaker 7 (57:45):
Yeah, Tommy our most consistent player inside, like he makes
play have to play, whether it's run game, the awareness
him if we have to send him on the field
late to go back and pass down, he can do
that as well. But Tommy is just he's consistent because
he does it right. He does exactly what we're asking
him to do. It may not be flashy to a

(58:07):
lot of people, but consistency is what I'm about, and
that's what makes a good professional football player. It's a
consistency of what you operate, down in and down out,
and you know what to expect. You know what you're
gonna get from Tommy, and he shows up every week
making big play at the big play for us.

Speaker 2 (58:23):
We close out wins the past two weeks and kind
of the final moments of these games.

Speaker 1 (58:28):
What effects can like wins like that have on a
football team.

Speaker 7 (58:33):
Well, when you have wins like that, you would like
to hope that it would, you know, continue to spark
some confidence in our guys and continue to help us
to push forward. But as I know, just realistic, each
game is its own game, Like you gotta go out
and do the things necessary that it takes to win
those games. There isn't it a magical elixir that comes

(58:53):
out of like, oh, you guys finished because this certain
thing happened.

Speaker 4 (58:57):
Though.

Speaker 7 (58:57):
You just gotta go finish games. You gotta execute the
right way. You got to make plays in those critical moments.

Speaker 10 (59:04):
Former Astros manager Bestie Baker, when we asked him about
watching the standings, he said, yes, I watch him every day.

Speaker 12 (59:09):
I look at the standings every day.

Speaker 9 (59:11):
Is that something that that you do as well?

Speaker 10 (59:14):
With the way that your team is playing getting back
to five much you're seeing, you know where your position
at AFC.

Speaker 4 (59:20):
Just find a way to win.

Speaker 7 (59:22):
You know, standings really doesn't matter, you know right now
at this point, like what matters is whatever had the
stand However the standings look, I know what improves the
standings is winning. So my focus is on doing everything
I can possibly do to help our team be in
positioned to win this game this week, and the standings

(59:42):
and all those things.

Speaker 4 (59:43):
They will take care of themselves, all right, Thank you guys.

Speaker 1 (59:48):
Thanks coach eleven eight. Anything you want to chew on
it from the things you heard there, you know, I'm
getting a feeling that coach thinks they need to make plays.
I'm getting the notion that you're not going to see CJ.
Strodge trying to be Buffalo Bills on Thursday. We'll discuss
that next eleven twenty eight on Sports Talk seven ninety
seven one three two one two five is seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety We've

(01:00:12):
got the news at noon coming up. We've got believe
it or Not today at one fifty. I'm so happy
you're back for that. I know what's a category. I'll
think about it, okay.

Speaker 12 (01:00:22):
Yeah, all right.

Speaker 1 (01:00:32):
So last week I go to tell the truth. I
fibbed about Davis Mills, how the Texans should try to
trade him in the off season because you get nothing.
The value won't be a little higher. They need a
new jugs machine or second or third round draft. Okay,
the stard rounder for nah, I'm just throwing it out there.
But people didn't believe me in that, So that was
easy one to get rid of. Okay, you can't trade

(01:00:57):
Davis Mills. He's got another year left in his contract
this year. He is a very valuable insurance commodity because
another year c J. Stroud is going to miss another
game after that. Matt Thomas gutt feeling No, I mean
they he basically wet. There's pre coded protocol in a

(01:01:19):
percussion call pro concussion protocol correct. Uh can you I
guess the answer is yes to this. Can you be
prone to concussions? The answer is yes, you can.

Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
Yes you can.

Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
The more you get them, the more likely you are
to continue getting them. That's my understanding. So he missed
his last year. Remember that Thursday night game in New
York on that terrible turf he gets concussied. That was
I think that was two years ago. Okay, was a
concussion two years ago or last year? I thought it
was last year. And when they played the Jets, that
was when he was like hobbling around and that was
a horrible game. Okay, I think two years ago. I

(01:01:56):
think his rookie year he got. The point being is
he has had quite a few hits to the head
in the last three or four years. Yes, And you
don't see him warming up, you don't see him throwing
the ball around, you don't see him out of concussion protocol.
You're not getting a tremendous description, nor did the NFL
teams have to give it to you, except to say
that they're in any concussion percussion percussion concussion protocol. You

(01:02:17):
got me, it's my fault. Yeah, let me ask you generally,
two weeks is what you miss? I feel like he's
going to be back just based on history last Uh, yeah,
he's missed too. I guess the question would be if
the if the Texans were playing the Bills on Sunday,
would have had a better shot. But it sounds like
to me that it's not going to happen this week.
He missed two games in twenty twenty three. Okay, but

(01:02:43):
did he did he play? How many games did he
play last year? Did he not miss a game for
something he missed? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:02:51):
What was that?

Speaker 1 (01:02:52):
Was that a leg issue or an e issue? I
can't remember. Okay, whatever you want if you want to
paint a broad brush on his injury, says, but concussions
to me the most the biggest thing to worry about.
I mean, he missed some games, but he might have
been on the field. Yeah, well last year, but he
takes a lot. So are the Texans in a little bit.
And again, I'm not trying to manufacture a topic. I'm

(01:03:13):
literally just us talking at the bar here, just talking
shop about this team. Is there a little bit of
fright about trying to put a huge paycheck in front
of a guy that's gonna be can concuss two times
in the last three years and we we'll have missed
three games, three and a half games because of it,
fifteen games and twenty three seventeen games last year. Okay,
I mean we'll see. I mean, guys missing a couple

(01:03:35):
of games. Let's go through the list of quarterbacks that
are there are missing time. It's a lot. Well, Jackson
Dark just got it, he's hurt again. Now have Joe
Burrow's been hurt specifically on the concussion is what I'm
thinking about. Okay, now, I guess you know what you're
think about this. All injuries do count if you miss
time you miss time, no matter what it's for. But yeah,
there would be heightened concern for certain things, including brain injuries. Yeah,

(01:03:59):
I know. I don't think it would factor in it
at all unless he gets like another one and another one.
Concussions are a part of football. They just are too out.
Remember I mean to a tongue of Laaloa going through
the concussion stuff with him as he started every game
this year. Yes, but he's not good. Yeah, well he's
not good. Are you saying he's brain goat scrambled? I'm
saying that The concern level for me on two attack

(01:04:21):
of Laloa, even if I was a Dolphins fan, is
minimal because I know for a fact I'm not going
to put crazy money in front of him long term.
Well he did sign an extension though, didn't he He did,
but I wasn't. I don't think it was for one
of that one. I mean when I said this crazy money,
I'm talking about these guys now right now, ROSSI the
NFL making fifty million dollars a year. Yeah, he got
four years, two hundred twelve. Oh how much that guaranteed?

(01:04:42):
I'd have to click on that last year he got
four years, two hundred and twelve gart with one hundred
and sixty seven guaranteed. Oh god, this is the is
the way of the world. Let me ask you this now, quarterback.
So here's what were going Are we gonna be going?
Oh god, for a guy who can't stay up right
because he's in concussion stuff. Two times is not a pattern,

(01:05:05):
but it's noticeable. You can't argue that it's a concern,
but is a worry.

Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
Lot.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
I'm saying it is because I'm bringing it up. Yeah, okay,
you can be worried. What are the texts that's going
to be worried that they're going to way into it.
For sure, it's going to be discussed like, hey, should
we do this? And they would say, you know what, No,
this is the NFL, you know, top ten ish where
right now? Quarterbacks don't grow on trees. Even if even
if CJ played seventeen weeks a year, it was completely healthy.
It was the star studed quarterback we thought it was

(01:05:34):
going to be. When you pay somebody fifty plus, you
suffer at some other point. You don't get to keep
both receivers, you don't get to keep both running backs,
you don't get to keep both cornerbacks. You don't have
to keep those high end safeties or linebackers. Will Anderson. Well,
put it this way, the Bengals, your case in point,

(01:05:55):
said we're gonna spend all our money on offense. Yes,
they took care of t Higgins, they took carried Jamar Chase,
and they took care of Joe Burrow defensively, those guys
are having to work at food banks on the weekends
for extra cash. That's Trey Hendrick because he's not try
he hates the Bengals philosophy. Yes, that's the beauty of

(01:06:17):
the NFL. There's parody because you can't sign everyone. Well,
let me ask you this question, putting the cart well
before the horse. If I'm going to invest relatively speaking
based off the position they're in, do I want to
make sure that Will Anderson's taking care of for the
rest of his Texans life? Or am I going to
worry about making sure that Will Anderson or that C. J.
Strout is making quarterback money that would keep him satisfied.

(01:06:39):
It's the latter, and you don't even think about it. Unfortunately,
I don't think I know you were very quick to it. No,
it's easy. I don't know Jill Anderson or c J. Stroud.
It's gonna be c J. Strout. If it comes down
to that guy or that guy. They can cut some
other guys and figure something out and try to keep both.
They try to keep both. I will personally guarantee you

(01:07:01):
they will not let c J. Stroud go to sign
Will Anderson. No way. Okay, you want to make it bet, Yeah,
I don't make it bet because I I certainly would
certainly lean towards your side. But however, however, Will Anderson

(01:07:21):
stays healthy. Will Anderson is feared. Will and is one
of the best position He's amazing. CJ. Stroud has been
hurt twice. He's been good, not supreme. Michael Parsons got traded.
Michael Parsons is better than Will Anderson. Well, look how
the Dallas Cowboys feel about their life right now. They're
not feeling I'm not saying you have to make hard

(01:07:43):
decisions than the NFL. This is why anybody can win.
This is why a team from Kansas City, Missouri can
become a dynasty, because you have to be smart and
you have to have the right players. So all I
will say to disagree with you slightly. Is I don't
you didn't gasp. I would take a deep breath before
I made that taty breath. But we're gonna end up
on the same side. Are you one hundred percent sure?

(01:08:04):
Ninety nine point seven percent sure, because look, it is
hard to get a course. We think it's two more
concussions this year. I might come on your side, but
as where we sit right here, and I'm not trying
to say I'm not trying to put a side on this.
I'm just saying Will Anderson was the number three pick
and could have been the number two pick if things
turn I mean whatever. You know, Yeah, he's great. He

(01:08:28):
might be a future Hall of Famer. The way he's playing,
he might be. I don't think you says is going
the Hall of Fame. But that's all Jerry do Do
you want to be Jerry Jones? Khalil Matt got traded
in his prime from though what the Chargers? Von Miller? Yeah,
I mean, okay, we're talking about philosoph We're talking about

(01:08:48):
philosophy changes in sports. We're trying to get these coaches
under get these big contracts in college athletics. Can we
be can we be smart? General? Manager and go, we
love you, CJ. We do want to get you a raise,
we do want you to be our guy. But I
can't break the bank for a guy who misses two
to three games a year because of a variety of ailments.

(01:09:09):
And it's the second round of concussions, and most concussions. Again,
we're not trying to make all concussions equal. I'm just
saying this is a three weeker here. When it looked
like to me that there were folks that said, oh,
I mean, he may be back for the next week's
I mean, I don't know. It's just there's just been
a lot of sincess. He's in, He's in the protocol.

(01:09:29):
Last time he missed two games. That's what I would expect,
but just based on history. But we'll see. Okay, maybe
I'm just too big of a Will Anderson fan, and
maybe you're amazed at the way you love me. Hmm. Okay,
eleven forty three on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross,

(01:09:50):
I'm the one doing movie references. Okay, I almost got
I almost got to Cole and uh Jonathan. The other
day we were talking about how stupid it is that
uh uh Alabama coach Nick Saban calls his wife miss Terry.

Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
I was like, I don't know. I only know because
it's stupid color terry.

Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
Miss.

Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
Also, where's Nick Saban from? That's like a Southern thing
I know, but don't but nobody I'm from the South.
Do you call her miss Terry? When he was in
East Lansing? Does your mom? Does your dad call your dad?
Call your mom miss whatever? No, they're divorced. And six
thanks for bringing it up. Terrible example that man, Get
out of this. So so back to my point, I
was like, I only know one family that calls the

(01:10:34):
other names call stop trying to focus. And I had
this problem when you were gone last week. I said
I had one Texas family that I know that you
used to call their mom miss miss. And I said
it was my friend's the ewings of Miss Ellie. Oh okay.
And he's like, yeah, I'm Bobby and does it?

Speaker 5 (01:10:53):
And Ray?

Speaker 1 (01:10:54):
And then I said j R. And that's when Cole's like, oh,
you're doing a Dallas thing, aren't you. I never should
have said Jay, I was a big I'm on my fault.
Went you took it too far?

Speaker 5 (01:11:02):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
I did take it too far, but I felt like
I got him good for a while at least UH
seven one, three, two five, seven ninety if you want
to get it, am I. Okay, let me just ask
all this. Am I nuts when I'm thinking about watching
the piggy banks of both Will Anderson and C. J. Stroud.
Now you can, in theory, you can sign both of
them to make sure they don't ever leave. You could

(01:11:23):
do that, but there's gonna be some other deal. You
paid Stingley, ooh, you did pay Patree? Got a deal.
You got to pay Lasser now that he's playing really well?
Last playbar last I wo wasn't get it in real estate?
Here Ross has the UH press conference on with our
buddy Steve Sarcasian. Of course you're home for Texas football

(01:11:45):
is right here on seven ninety the greatest. Hey, you
know what they did to sign into an extension right now?
All these openings, Yeah, sign them up. Let's go give
him fifteen million dollars ten more years. Man, you are
spending that money. Well mh hey, let him.

Speaker 6 (01:12:01):
Go, Mike go go.

Speaker 1 (01:12:02):
You're gonna hit the You're gonna hit the portal. Okay,
you know what I wish we had? What I wish
we had the audio of when he got hired, how
you felt about h I'm not saying that you're I'm
received Sarkisian and I'm talking to Sarkisian.

Speaker 5 (01:12:12):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:12:12):
I said, I liked the high. I wasn't. I wasn't
over the moon, but I did like the hire. And well,
as long as he can recruit, I think he's a
good play caller. And see, at least that's where I
sit now on the record for me, I loved the
Willie Fritz higher and it worked out. Well, we're eight
and two, gonna go to a bowl game. We're gonna
beat Texas and the Texas Bowl let's go. Well, you're delusional,
but that's okay, that's par for the course at this point.

(01:12:36):
We'll see.

Speaker 12 (01:12:38):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
I'd rather go to the Pop Tarts Bowl and put
jelly all over yourself. You got that right, Okay, But look,
I said, I've never been I like Sark. You can
win it all with Sark, but you're not gonna win
it all because of Sark. I think that was a
good example this weekend of Kirby Smart playing to win,

(01:12:59):
going for a down in your own territory, and also
with the on side kick. He played to win. Sark
doesn't do that in big games. He plays not to lose.
So is somebody holding him back? Answer my question. The
offensive line isn't great, but look, this is how it's
gonna be. Sometimes other guys are gonna be good too,
especially in il Era. You're spending forty fifty million dollars.

(01:13:20):
Everybody spending forty fifty million dollars, all the big dogs.
That's how it is. So I liked a lot of
the play designs and stuff that we see from him sometimes,
but a lot of it gets blown up when the
offensive line isn't holding. And oh, by the way, when
arch Manning is He's not bad, but he's not special
right now his first year as a starter. He can

(01:13:41):
grow and he can get better. But I would say
it does feel like the last couple of years, great
Texas defenses are are being wasted. Someone can say about
the Texans, great Texans defense being wasted. And so when
we were talking about going back to CJ. Stroud, you
have to win when he's cheap, when he's expensive, that
great defense is going to lose a couple of beats. Yeah,

(01:14:03):
it's it's hard in the NFL because you can't sign everybody.
It's hard in college because guys either a graduate or
b transfer out. Yeah, let's go to Dave in Austin
at eleven fifty three on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Dave,
good morning to you, Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 6 (01:14:20):
Man. I can't believe I'm gonna say this because I
always are usually agree with Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:14:25):
But okay, I agree. You never agree with you. You're
saying you don't agree with me, Dave. This is how
you know you're wrong, Beach.

Speaker 6 (01:14:34):
Maybe.

Speaker 12 (01:14:34):
So that's funny.

Speaker 6 (01:14:36):
I was wanting to call in a couple of weeks
ago regarding Shrouds, so when you brought him up, I
decided to finally call in. But you know, in this league,
you know unfortunately, you know you are not unfortunately, but
you need a quarterback that can not only pass the ball,
but can run with the ball as well. And unless

(01:14:57):
you're an elite passer like I'm talking like Peyton Manning
Tom Brady, unless you can dissect the defense and be
an elite passer. Unless you can do that, you also
got to be.

Speaker 4 (01:15:07):
Able to run.

Speaker 6 (01:15:08):
And you don't even have to be a great runner
if you can just scramble a little bit, you know,
like Baker Mayfield or brock Perty or you know any
of those guys that aren'trigg running quarterbacks, but when they
kneed a first down, they can scramble and run and
not just slide all the time. But like even Davis
Mills is like running and when he dives, he goes
head first and he's not afraid of that contact. If

(01:15:30):
Shroud gives concussions, you know he's not gonna dive head first.
He's going to try to slide. And he's not even
good at that because he got hurt trying to slide
way too late. But he's very slow footed. I mean,
this guy looks ridiculous when he runs. It's like it's
just something wrong, Like he's just not quick footed at all.

Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
Look, I want to make sure I want to make
sure player with this. I am very pro CJ. Stroud.
I'm not saying this is a guy as a bombers
not worth it. And I'm just saying that the Texans
are potentially Dave in a little bit of a pickle here,
because when you have a good quarterback, the if then
statement is then you pay them obnoxious amount of money

(01:16:12):
and I'm saying, it's gonna really be a difficult conversation
to have in the front offices of the Texans when
you're about to put this fifty plus million dollar contract
on a guy, when you're going to be a worried
about his concussion health and b you may have to
sacrifice another star player on this worldlye awesome defense because

(01:16:32):
of that, And that would scare me a little bit.

Speaker 6 (01:16:36):
I'm with you, I think we should. I don't think
I would move forward with him. I wouldn't give him
a big contract. I would try to trade him or
move him and get a better quarterback that can that
can both run and pass. You got to have that
in this league, a dual threat quarterback. I would move
on from him. But the problem is, you know, you're
just kind of playing with a dollar. But I'm just saying, like,
he's not even I just would get rid of it.

Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
But theay you could have, you could have a all
world and thank you for the phone called Ross. You
could have an all world run quarterback and pass quarterback.
You can also get concussed. Concussions are there? They don't.
They don't stop away step away from other quarterbacks. Every
quarterback is sus separable to contempt Trevor Lawrence and he
gets blown up by his e's all Shaw hear while sliding. Yeah,
I think he missed some time last year. Jordan Love

(01:17:18):
I think got hurt. Dak Prescott's been hurt a ton,
some Goy Burrow has been hurt. Josh Allen's been fairly reliable,
but Joe Burrow's been hurt a lot. He has been
healthy for the most pro Party's missed almost all the year.
And by the way, I'm just pulling up the top
aav and those are the guys I'm going through. Lamar
Jackson hurt to start this year. He went on ir
correct with the hamstring injury, missed four games or whatever

(01:17:39):
it was. Kyler Murray's been missing time. And I'm also
Todave's what he's talking about. I'm not sitting here telling
you C. J. Stroud has no doubt about it. This
guy's going to lead you to a Super Bowl. He's
one of the five best quarterbacks in football. I'm not
saying that. I'm saying he's shown a level of competency
and ability to possibly grow to where you don't let
go of that. In the NFL, I mean, think of

(01:18:01):
the guys who did get paid. I don't know Daniel
Jones who got paid to a tongue of Alowe who
got paid. Uh, Deshaun Watson got that big deal from
from Cleveland. And I'm not saying it's gonna work out.
I'm saying, if you have somebody who you think you
can win with, which I think they can win with C. J. Stroud,
you don't let it go. You don't start over. You
don't starting over can be painful. Now the Seahawks, I'm

(01:18:24):
trying to think of exceptions. Seahawks are getting Sam Darnold,
but also they had a it was a weird situation
because J J. McCarthy to Achilles, Okay, I'm gonna give
you another one. The Lions financially did not want to
continue to pay Matthew Stafford that crazy money. They got
Jared Golf and they're pretty happy with the situation they're now.
Matthew staffew do go to LA, won a super Bowl,

(01:18:45):
they won it all and Jared Goff is making fifty
million dollars a year. So man, like I said, this
is these are difficult decisions. But the easy chalk prediction
would be if you got a guy, you keep the guy, Yes,
but at what who who doesn't stay in three years
because of that? Again, that takes a very good general

(01:19:08):
manager who doesn't make mistakes. That the appropriately signs guys
at good amounts and and and separates the years so
guys are not all getting paid ridiculous money at the
same time. Yeah, two things. That's that's the way of
the world of the NFL. That's just how it is.
It's the most important position in major American sports, quarterback
and number two. It also highlights for me the lack

(01:19:30):
of Nick Cassario capitalizing on having c. J. Stroud and
that the defense is very strong around them, but offensively
they're not there. And oh, by the way, you're gonna
want to get some better offensive linemen and you're gonna
need to spend money on that too. Yes, all right.
The at the Texans and the Rockets were taking care
of business. We'll hear from them and some of the
highlights of their games yesterday seven one, three, two, five,

(01:19:53):
seven niney. We have to tell the truth. Coming up
at the bottom of the hour is the Matt Thomas
Show with ross pre throw line fifteen footer on the
land turn out with thirty five pre point lead. Turn
out Orlando. Fun game. We've not really got into Rockets much.

(01:20:19):
We got plenty of time for them. Two four game
winning streaks already, that's good. Probably twenty game winning streak.
Let's go part of the news at noon. I'm so
glad you're back. Good to be back, Matt. And a
good clip that for me. Thank you have one. Don't
don't play it, don't play it Friday on the clock
backline made me feel it made me feel good. Thank you, Matt. Yes,

(01:20:43):
the News at noon, we will lead with your Houston Texans.
They gutted it out on the road against the division
rival and they won sixteen to thirteen. Matthew Wright, backup quarterback,
backup kicker. Those are their two players Will arguably, if
you want to throw I don't know Daniel Hunter and
Will Anderson in there, I understand, but they're two. Honestly,

(01:21:06):
they are two most important players so far this season.
Out they get the victory. They have won three of
their last four. Now, I don't know what gut feeling
you did last week, Matt, but I think two weeks
ago you said Texans out of the playoffs. They win
two in a row. How we feeling. I will be
happy to amend my gut feelings. They have to beat

(01:21:26):
Buffalo on Thursday. It's a must win game. Uh No,
but I mean because there's a log jam. But get
three teams at five and five. All three of those
teams are on the outside looking in. You still have
to jump Jacksonville, who's six and four. Yes, so you
got a lot of meat left in that bone. As
the kids would say, well, you get the home game

(01:21:48):
versus the Bills on a short week. Then you have
to go to the Colts and two arrowhead to take
on the Chiefs on Sunday night football. So this schedule
is heating up for the Texans. Thankfully, they take care
of business against two division opponents in the last couple
of weeks with the victories there. You had Damiko Ryan

(01:22:08):
speaking earlier today, both Jalen Petrie and CJ. Stroud still
in a concussion protocol, putting their status in Thursday on
Thursday in doubt against the Buffalo Bills at home Thursday
night on Prime Video. Yeah, and data is one thing
they're not playing. By the way, the game will be

(01:22:29):
over the year. I don't know what TV station is
but you find check your local listings. Check your local listings.
Have you have you watched a lot of Prime Video.
I love it. They have the extra Prime I'm gonna
tell you this, folks. If you if you're like a
you know, football junkie, you on a little next level
they have. I actually don't even remember what the alternative
it's called, like next Prime Video, next Gin whatever. They

(01:22:50):
highlight players that they think are blitzing that. It's the
normal broadcast. You get Al Michaels and Kirk Krbstreet. But
every now and then there's this analytics guy who cuts
in like, hey, this is why they're going for this
fourth down decision. We see that it's fifty five percent
go forty five percent kick. Hey this is look at
keep an eye on this they like to do. They
like to blitz on third down. He pipes in and out.

(01:23:11):
But you still get mostly the normal Al Michaels and
Kirk Curbstreet stuff. I love it. The alternative broadcast on
Prime Video two big thumbs up from me. Way better
than the Manning cast, if you will. I like the
Manning cast too. Actually, when they would have Bill Belichick
on and they just be talking football that's cool. Now,
when it's some guy who's like in a movie that
I'm not gonna watch and don't care about, that's lane.
But when it's like usually like first quarter or so,

(01:23:33):
it's Eli and Payton, that's good. And then when they
bring on a football guy, that's good. But when they're
bringing on like Paul Rudd to talk about his latest
crappy romantic comedy, then I'm out the onlyest romantic comedy
Paul Rudd. Yeah, Amy, she are gonna be on that
probably hers, She's gonna be on there, all right, Well

(01:23:56):
she got you got over cubbing fall run all right. Also,
Matt the as you just heard the wonderful highlights from
Full Throat Thomas, you know what I I don't know.
I didn't spread something to you. You want to drink?
You want to drink about of water? I think I
got some water down my trot. All right. Yes, the

(01:24:19):
Rockets get a win in overtime, a thriller, a horrible
turnover at the end of regulation. Alprin Shingoon comes back
and totally redeems himself because he had a good game
unless you look at his field goal percentage, which was
eleven and thirty one, but other than that, he was great.
In forty five minutes, he had thirty points, twelve rebounds,

(01:24:39):
eight assists. Kevin Durant with thirty five points as well,
and the Rockets win their fourth and row against the
Orlando Magic. Couple of days off before being in action
on Wednesday against Cleveland Cavaliers. Cleveland Cavallet's on the road, right,
I hate it, dude, We're going up there for one game.

Speaker 5 (01:24:56):
I am.

Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
That's my only pet peeve about traveling. If I'm gonna
go on the road, I want to go to two
cities and knock them out.

Speaker 4 (01:25:02):
Don't do.

Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
And you'll free shrip cocktail. There is sometimes desserts five
tens a very sweet nights. Always have two pillows and
two blankets.

Speaker 5 (01:25:19):
Ready for me.

Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
Shed a tear for five diamond Matt, if you're gonna
shed a tear for me? Seven one, three two seven.
It is weird on home on the road for one,
home for one and then oh we got a big
whopping road trip coming up. Great you you are, You're
the human road trip. That's not true with the California Yeah,

(01:25:40):
that was gone for a week. I didn't connect from
there on a shady connection with the delay, have not
you didn't have non stops? Oh no, no, never mind. Uh,
by the way, next four games ESPN Prime Video, Peacock
and ESPN. How about them Rockets? National exposure? Baby? Yeah,
how about me getting on some national exposure too. No,

(01:26:01):
it's just some great calls, all right? Good? Yeah, Yes,
you're doing great, Matt, Thank you. Good to see you
haven't changed. I need you to verify for me. You're
doing fantastic. A couple of notes elsewhere that one go ahead.
The AP college basketball polls out. Okay, okay, number one
team in the country yesterday m hm beat a top
twenty five team. Okay, on the road, or I was

(01:26:23):
a neutral site. But Birmingham is not neutral when it
comes to Auburn, right, m hm. Cougar's dropped the number
two today? What happened? No, I don't know, idiots, ad vote.
That's why these poles don't mean squat. See there you go.
That's what I'm just saying, especially in basketball, it doesn't matter.
Football matters a little bit. Josh hipel Man got of
shape watching it second chin bouncing around. Look at that

(01:26:47):
thing got a warble goal. It looks like he just
walked from his garage after crushing twelve bush lights. Seriously,
Josh Hipel's a coach, is a coach Tennessee and he
looks like he is a guy that just fixed my car. Yeah,
he's a former quarterback. Sorry, mean to interrupt you there,
but look at him, Josh Haipel. Yeah it was great
at Oklahoma. Sure was beat Texas a couple times. All right,

(01:27:08):
we're gonna have to bring that up. Sorry, Oklahoma's always
beating up on Texas. Not this year, baby. Alright, what
else you got? Uh? You made me forget? Oh, I
was gonna talk about Antonio bro a couple a couple
of NFL notes. But we can get somebody tomorrow with
the NFL. Rewind yes, but Torod Taylor is now the
started quarterback for Justin Fields, who has been benched. Elane Johnson,

(01:27:30):
the All Pro or former All Pro right tackle for
the Eagles, is out with a Lee franc injury. He's
probably gonna miss the season. Same thing for Michael Pennik's
potential season ending knee injury. See Matt Look injuries everywhere. Baby,
It's part of the game. But in Atlanta's case, you're
not paying crazy money. On Pennix. You are paying crazy

(01:27:51):
money on Kirk Cousins and now now you can live
up to it. That's sir ball, all right, that's the
news at noon. We got to tell the truth. And
this is the first time ever boys five statements four
I believe I'm scared. Does that actually help you or
hurt you? Well, you will see how bad these takes are.
I think it's Gonnamudy the waters. Yeah, you need to

(01:28:13):
give me no shot there to give you five shotage.
I mean, Jonathan said you had a bunch of bad
takes last week, so well he just was I said,
Kansas I'm not the only one thinks Kansasity's got a shot.
I just know I'm not. Still you still think they
have a shot, and they still I still do unless
Texans go up there in Kansasity and beats something that
we can talk differently. Twelve sixteen and The Matt Thomas
Show Ross seven one three two one two five seven

(01:28:35):
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
If you want to follow us on Twitter, it's at
sports Empty at sports RVY. Our station account is at
sports Talk seven ninety. I'm watching these Denver, Kansas City highlights.
They're all defense, and for a good reason, because Broncos
are a leade defensively. Their offense sucks that are nine

(01:28:59):
and two. The one score game chickens are coming home
to roost for the Chiefs. Didn't they have this crazy
one score game record last year. Everybody's like, oh, they're
so good, they just win. Andy Reid's a good cook.
Pat Mahomes is a winner oh and five this year
in one score games. Those things tend to even out.

Speaker 6 (01:29:19):
They do.

Speaker 1 (01:29:20):
Just like officiating. By the way, I didn't see a
lot of Scott Foster slander on those Houston streets yesterday.
He's looking young. He has some work done or something
that he's coloring his hair. Yeah, he's doing something. Got
a little just for men. He and I Clyde Frazier.
I have two radio partners, Adam Wexler and Adam Clinton
that split on the Rockets podcast with me. Uh huh,
and one has hair and one doesn't. One has hair,

(01:29:43):
one doesn't. One would bring up Scott Foster at nauseum
during a broadcast and one doesn't.

Speaker 4 (01:29:50):
Okay, So.

Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Shout out to wex for not making it about the officials.
I didn't think there was anything uberly controversial.

Speaker 5 (01:29:58):
I did it.

Speaker 1 (01:29:59):
It's funny though, I think people are just they're set
to say when a particular official works, things are gonna
get screwed. I got two texts, one from I won't
say his name, Badam Ranton, and then one from another
friend of mine who's like, Scott Foster sucks. And I'm thinking,
I'm I'm calling the game now. I'm not watching every
single thing literally that Scott Foster is calling. But I
didn't think it was anything in terms of wow, that

(01:30:21):
he is trying to hose the Houston Rockets. It's super easy.
Head over two hours East, drop five figures on whoever
you think Scott Foster wants to win and you'll never lose. Well,
what was the line last night? I actually I have
no idea. I just got back in town, so I
didn't even know they're playing until the game was over,
and then it had to be like, oh god, I

(01:30:41):
gotta watch this now I forgot Yeah, oh, of sorts,
I can find it. Here's what my prom I just
got a text from Chase that declined, my wife spend
some money at Walgreens today and they're saying it's no
good mm hmm. Was this you or I'm gonna put yes.
I am an this was an authorized user, so I'm
gonna puty yes, good job. It was seven and a

(01:31:03):
half was the line. So Orlando did cover all right? Hey,
the Rockets minus tree hundred on a money line, which
they did win. Yes, four, row Baby nine and three.
I think by our old friend your favorite metric, Matt

(01:31:23):
neet rating there second in basketball, behind of course Oklahoma City,
the behemoth that I think if healthy is going back
to back. I mean, I'm just gonna say it. I
don't want you to say it. Hmmm, probably right, I
want you to sell you They're gonna go fifty eight
and twenty four and finishes a four seed in the West.

(01:31:44):
No way, I lie, Nuggets are second, and then in
the Rockets those sets, I hay, I got feeling was
Rockets finished top three in the West. I think that's
my top three. Lakers been playing well too. Though Lakers
have played well, Lebronso hasn't played for them yet. He
still got the sciatica in his back. He did, he
commented on TMU police in or and then your tweet
he did, Oh yeah he did? Why just mute him?

(01:32:07):
I was on the four U side. I guess I
could just mute. You know, I'm gonna mute Lebron. I
use because he's such a wonderful player, but he just
stay out of everything. My favorite thing to use to
mute people is the four utab. If you're muted by
Ross seven one three two one two five, you know
that's true. Oh, you know that's the beauty. I can
definitely tell who's muted me on a variety of things. No,

(01:32:30):
sometimes people people never like people that will put Facebook
mess posts out there, that will never like my Facebook posts,
people that will never like my tweets. No, that you
can fall out of somebody's algorithm. There are some people
that I had I follow and I haven't seen their
tweets in ages, and it's just because you either don't
click or interact with their tweets and then kind of
fall out of your algorithm. No, you're giving me decent

(01:32:50):
justification for that. I thought it was people that I
thought I was setting up a petty argument for those people. No,
I'm trying to help you out. I'm trying to help
you get better in the big twenty twenty five. You know,
it's almost twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (01:32:59):
I I do.

Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
I do believe that I was definitely muted. No, it's fine,
you shouldn't mute me. There are tons of people overtweet.
I don't overtweet. I don't insult you, generally speaking, unless
you insult me first. Then I come back you ten
times harder. I usually tend to respond to most of
you that are decent. No, there there are a ton
of people that I don't have muted that I'm like, Oh,

(01:33:21):
I still follow them and I don't ever see their tweets. Okay,
you ready for some to tell the truth. I guess
all right, how are we doing? Geez on the phone right,
I'm gonna say how the prize ball is a prize?
Fall got enough to give away? A prize? We could
give away to prize. I'll take a prize. What do
we got, John?

Speaker 5 (01:33:36):
What we got for?

Speaker 1 (01:33:37):
He's on the phone, John, What do we got for?
Some prize? We got enough to give away for to
tell the truth today? Mmm, we'll be missing one. But
let me say, because we gotta believe it or not
today coming up at one fifty Lenyard Skanyard and Leonard Skannard,
Leonard Skinner or their cousin Leonard's gonna say which one
is it?

Speaker 6 (01:33:53):
All there?

Speaker 1 (01:33:53):
Son of Leonard Skinnard who is still left in that band.

Speaker 3 (01:33:56):
So we got you of A's and T s U TCU,
and then we have the said, actually don't know I
say this, man, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
Now you gotta put an ad. You gotta say later
Skinner Skanner's coming to town Sweet Home, Alabama.

Speaker 3 (01:34:07):
Yea in the double Vision Double Trouble. You do because
tomorrow with Foreigner because tomorrow We're.

Speaker 1 (01:34:12):
Not playing believe not because I'm leaving early. So why
don't we do what you are? Yeah, it's going to
Big Ohio. Yeah, we just talked about this earlier, the
struggles I have going to northeast Ohio. Get the email
this week. So let's do this. Let's uh, let's give away.
Let's set up five lines, and let's see if you
guys can and in Ross and Jonathan, you both can

(01:34:33):
help the audience to kind of lead them in a
particular category. I have five statements, four of them I
believe one of them I do not. Okay, So Ross,
how many how many lives are there? Five? No one?

Speaker 5 (01:34:47):
One?

Speaker 1 (01:34:49):
I just literally told you I heard you're back. You're
back in mid season mode. Though my brain was clear
for like the first two hours. I know, all right,
So if you want to play to Tell the Truth
for a chance to win, either is it Leonard skinnered tickets?
Is that correct? And in Foreigner that's and and or
Cougar's versus TCU game tickets We're skinnered at oh and

(01:35:12):
a super fan Houston snack box included with the tickets.
What are we doing to give away nice gifts here
on the show? So super Fan Houston snack box, Houston
Cougar tickets and Leonard skinnered Foreigner. If you play to
Tell the Truth next, I will be telling one lie.
The rest will be truth. Seven one three two one

(01:35:32):
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety If you want to play to tell
the truth, I tell but Rossell. The wonderful thing about

(01:35:59):
me is I I do know how to tell the truth,
and I'm gonna do it for you here on Sports
Talk seven eighty. All right, gentlemen on the line, Edward,
George Allen, Mike, Richard James. If you're new to the segment,
First of all, word the hell have you been? Second day,
I'm glad to have you. I have five takes written down.
Four of them. I believe.

Speaker 6 (01:36:21):
One, you do not.

Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
One I do not. I don't believe one you don't
believe Jonathan? How many? How many lies are there in
the group? Is one lie? Thank you very much, Jonathan.
Here we go. And if the callers online can figure
out which one I'm lying, they win. You have to
tell me which one I am lying. The other ones
are telling the truth. No Number one. It was cute

(01:36:44):
for a while, but I think if I'm ESPN and
on Amazon, I tell Kirk Kurbstreet enough of the dog videos. Okay,
people are cruel, society is tough. What happened just every
time it's a video of him and his dog out there?
I think dog fatigue is kicking in. Okay, Okay, So

(01:37:06):
if I again, I think sometimes if you do too
much to something, people start to get irritated by it.
I think people are getting more and more irritated by
me ESPN on my Amazon, I tell Kirk kurb Street
enough of the dog Number two. If the Astros signed
justin Verlander, I will say good move to how much

(01:37:30):
one year twelve pene are something that the mull t
year well, if it's twenty not so hot move. But
I was presuming one year in between twelve and fifteen
million dollars. Yes, okay, Number three, I desperately want the
normal on side kick rule back in the NFL. I
know it hurt your beloved Longhorns, Rossy, Yes, but that

(01:37:51):
onside kick that Georgia pulled off on Saturday against Texas
was a thing of beauty.

Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (01:37:56):
It's also very rare, I know, but I liked it. Okay,
so bring me back the onside kicker role. I don't
care about safety. I want onside kicks. That sounds about right.
I believe this one. Number four. Did you see the
end of the Detroit Philadelphia game between the Eagles and
the Lions last night? There was a pass interference called
against Detroit very late in the contest that, at bare

(01:38:19):
minimum should have been on a call. It probably should
have been an offensive PI. Instead, it was a defensive PI.
Eagles were able to hold onto a low scoring win.
It was a completely disastrous call. The NFL's got to
do something somehow, some way to bring back video reviews
of pass interferences. All right, okay, and my last take

(01:38:42):
the college basketball season I like college basketball. I love
the NBA, but right now they're both being dwarfed by
college and pro football. If I'm college basketball, I don't
start till Christmas Week and I end the season on
Memorial Day weekend. You are so far irrelevant college basketball.

(01:39:03):
You will not become relevant until at least the beginning
of the year. Push your season back a month and
a half, two months, go to Memorial Day. Get your
guys ready for the NBA Draft that way too, the
Memorial Day. Yeah, for the Championship final four Memorrol Day weekend.
Classes are way over by then, doesn't matter. They play
the College World Series in June. They're out, all done.

(01:39:24):
Is that true? Well, yeah, a lot of them. In
a summer class athletes get out of here. So I
say start the college basketball season on Christmas Week and
this season on Memorial Day. Those are my five takes.
One of them is a complete lie. Which of the
four the truth? You gotta tell me which one I'm
lying one ESPN Amazon should tell the Kirk enough of
the dog. If the astrossigned justin Verlander, I will say

(01:39:47):
good move three. I want the normal on sites kick
roll back in the NFL. Four. I want PI video
reviews back in the NFL. And five the college basketball
season shouldn't start Christmas week it should end and should
actually end the season on Memorial Day weekend. Which one
of those am I lying? Which one am I not
telling the truth? Gentlemen, you have your own thoughts. I'm sorry.

(01:40:08):
Can you say number four again? Exactly? I want p
I video reviews you want? Do you want them back reviewed? Yes? Okay, okay.
In fact, you know what, I'd review every single one
of them, wouldn't even by their challenge using a challenge system.
I think if it's a p ice call, you know
how they review every inning being ridiculous if they if
they review every touchdown and turnover, they should review p

(01:40:28):
ice every single one. Absolutely, there's somebody got time for that.
They're such big decision they can change games. Absolutely. Oh
that's a bad take. So I don't know if you
believe it though. That's the hard part. You believe a
lot of bad stuff. I believe a lot of good things.
They call I got jotted, but you know, shut up,

(01:40:51):
shut up, he's still bitterer. Yeah, you rest face now, Okay, Jonathan,
you want to pass through this with me, let's go. Uh,
you want me to start? You want you want to start?

Speaker 5 (01:41:05):
Well?

Speaker 1 (01:41:06):
First, he likes Orlander there, Yeah, multiple times. He loves
white Belts. You can't get enough of Verlander, and I
mean that's a reasonable take. Verlander won year twelve to
fifteen million. That's a fine move. Whatever. You need some
starting pitching help. Definitely. I think Matt was tweeting about
wanting the onside kick yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:41:24):
Yes, that one.

Speaker 1 (01:41:25):
I definitely believe. I saw his tweet definitely, unless he's
just he's either lying now or he's lying when he's tweeting,
so I can lie. I'm a great liar. The first
one was uh, ESPN and Amazon. Matt probably is tired
of the dog. We talked about that, so I think
he believes that I'm down to the last two for
me personally, I mean, pass interference every week, every single

(01:41:50):
one of them. That's ridiculous. But does Matt believe it?
Who knows?

Speaker 6 (01:41:54):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:41:56):
I'm gonna go with five, you know for once, I'm
gonna go with five as well. What you're gonna piggyback?

Speaker 5 (01:42:03):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:42:03):
Is sure you want to do that?

Speaker 3 (01:42:04):
Yeah, that's fine, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go with five. Okay,
that's the only one that I would think you wouldn't believe.

Speaker 1 (01:42:09):
All right, let's see what the people have a chance
to win some prizes on this again, real quick, ESP
and Amazon should tell Kirk enough of the dog. If
the Astros signed Justin Verlander, I'm okay with it. Three
I want the normal on site kick roll back in
the NFL. Four, I want PI reviews back in the NFL.
And five the college basketball season shouldn't start until Christmas week.
Here we go, Uh, George, which one of those five takes?

(01:42:33):
Do I not believe? Which one of those five is
a lie? Well?

Speaker 6 (01:42:37):
I know you're a pat guy, so I know you
know you believe the first one.

Speaker 1 (01:42:41):
So I'm going there were four? You're lying about the
pastor appearance? You hate the robots? All right, there were
four pastor appears?

Speaker 12 (01:42:47):
Is a lie?

Speaker 1 (01:42:47):
All right? Put you on hold there, So put George
down as a four. Let's go to Mike on seven. Honty, Mike,
which one am I lying about?

Speaker 5 (01:42:57):
I think it's Erlander?

Speaker 1 (01:42:59):
Okay, yep, all right, that's Burlander. Verlander in a one
year deal, James and Kline? Which one am I lying about? James?

Speaker 5 (01:43:09):
It's Burlander, that's the band aid you winning, Okay, thank.

Speaker 1 (01:43:13):
You very much. And last one is Edward on seven
Onty Edward, Which one of those am I lying about? Yeah,
so I'm gonna stop posting dog videos. I know it's
getting tired. I am gonna go that Verlander.

Speaker 5 (01:43:26):
Is over the hill and you're picking Berlander.

Speaker 1 (01:43:29):
Okay, thank you very much. Wow, there's a lot of
support for Verlander. Number one.

Speaker 6 (01:43:33):
I did.

Speaker 1 (01:43:34):
The reason why I made five this week is because
I put on Twitter how much I love the on
sides kick. So that was a free kids. That's a game.
I do want more kicks. I do want PI video
reviews in the NFL. Now. I may have stretched a
little bit by saying on every play, but I wouldn't
be apposed to it. Okay. Pi's are so subjective and
can be such game changers. I do want PI video reviews.

(01:43:55):
Elpa George. I do believe college basketball should start their
season later in the year because look, I mean, we
had Houston versus Auburn on yesterday. Did anybody in America
care about that? Top twenty five March March madness. You're
not gonna call it May madness. May madness does work
to so ray madness works. That is ridiculous. That's a

(01:44:17):
bad take, you may madness. I don't care. I want
college basketball to get some shine.

Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
There ain't now.

Speaker 1 (01:44:24):
We want the game versus Samford and Ryder and all
that at the beginning of the season to get some shine.
How many calls we take on Duke Texas? Zero? How many?
How many would have taken if they happen in Christmas?
You don't know, z You don't think everybody's gonna be
locked in on Duke in Texas and Junior to top
thirty games. It should be December where the the NBA

(01:44:45):
is heating up and where NFL is coming down to
the playoffs. That's ridiculous. NBA is not heating up in December.
I'm sorry, Yeah, that's normally that's when people start. That
takes to Christmas. College basketball gets when the NBA starts
to get college basketball. The NFL is getting into playoffs time.
That's bad. I'm playing November. Nobody, may madness. If the

(01:45:08):
Astro signed Justin Verlander, I say good, fine, fine, one
one year, ten million dollars, twelve million dollars, whatever the
case would be. You want more dog videos. I listen
to me, so everybody, I do believe there is some fatigue.
But I want You're not gonna go tell ESPN and
Amazon to tell Kirk Kurbstreet to get rid of the
dog videos. That's not gonna end well, especially because this

(01:45:31):
America loves pets. Not happening. So number one, they wouldn't
do it. They wouldn't put out a press release. We
want Kirk to s up talking about his dogs. No,
because if if if Kirk was told to stop talking
about the dogs, people say where's your dog videos? Then say, well,
yesp Amazon told me not to do anymore. So that
was a lie. So all of you are wrong, all

(01:45:54):
of you, and you get nothing.

Speaker 5 (01:45:55):
And like it.

Speaker 1 (01:45:56):
What happens when you put out a bunch of bad takes,
great takes, may madness, ridiculous? That jumping is the seven work,
Probably it'll work. Don't want He's been a college winter
sport since forever, basically in college forgotten about sport forever too. Yeah, Okay,

(01:46:19):
let's check this. Let's check this Houston schedule, these big
games that you want getting shine, I do want some shine.
They're playing Arkansas, they're playing they just finished playing Auburn.
They're gonna go to Las Vegas and playing le High
and thousand in Oakland to start the season. I'm not
asking for national champion. Next game is against Rider, Okay,
so it's ut playing Rider too. By the way, I

(01:46:39):
know writer must have said, well, come and take these checks.
Writers like, hey, we're gonna come down to Texas and
get our asking for two checks. Take these cheeks and
give us the chicks Syracuse and Tennessee and Florida State.
That's good. So you want more shine for the Jackson
State New Orleans match up. I didn't say every single
Middle Oh, there's a big one we're coming up versus
Middle Tennessee as well. Don't argue with my takes. They're

(01:47:00):
good ones. Yeah. Could you imagine ESPN going to them saying,
you know, Kirk, your dog's cute enough of the No,
they could do that privately. I ain't gonna do it privately. No, Yeah,
they're not gonna do it public. Lakers be like, shut
your ball, mass up me and what's the good dog?

Speaker 5 (01:47:17):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:47:17):
Again, I do believe there is next man up. I
do believe there is a little bit of fatigue.

Speaker 5 (01:47:21):
I do.

Speaker 1 (01:47:21):
I'm not arguing fatigued.

Speaker 4 (01:47:23):
I mean, I don't care.

Speaker 1 (01:47:24):
That's something something that I didn't really watch Game Day
that much anyway. I haven't gotten up for game Day
since they basically ever there, Jonathan, you're gonna be ninety
years old some day in your life, long, long, long.
You're not gonna know anybody that's been awake less hours
between six am and noon than my partner here. I

(01:47:47):
like to sleep in man or what is it both?
It's both? Like if I text you one to sleep,
if I text you A one thirty this morning, there's
there a better than fifty fifty chance you respond to
this if you did it this morning. Yes, generally, it's
probably since we moved. Now when we're on at noon, yeah,
about ninety chance. Since we've been on at ten, it's

(01:48:07):
more fifty to fifty. All right, Ross, What is believing
or not? Today? I don't know why are we doing it? Yes?
One fifty? Oh what's the topic, Jeeves? No, you're just
trying to twist that knife. How about Michael Pennix's knees
a cl tear? Believe it's third one? Is it third one?

Speaker 12 (01:48:30):
Free?

Speaker 5 (01:48:31):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:48:32):
It's you don't You don't get a freaker rewards card.
She gets some points at least, you know, what can
we do? How about Davis Mills? We've done it. Go
Stephen can find the library. But how about Mills, Olin Mills,
General Mills, John Henry Mills, who from a full back
for the Orders back in the day. You're making that up,
cousin Brad Mills, former Asters manager. That's true Mills, Hayley Mills.

(01:48:56):
Wouldn't she like the child actress in the sixties Leroy
Mills saxophone player? Oh really, I made that up? Okay
seven one three two one two five seven Nattie seven
one three two make it up? People seven one three
two we did did?

Speaker 6 (01:49:11):
Do?

Speaker 5 (01:49:11):
We know?

Speaker 8 (01:49:12):
You?

Speaker 1 (01:49:12):
You fraud? Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
It'll be another hour to go here on a two
Monday ED issue that Matt Thomas show at Ross tomorrow
on the radio program we will have got Feelings nfl
rewind and you never know what's gonna pop up. We'll go,

(01:49:34):
We'll go check in what's going on in Buffalo On Wednesday?
Mudoka joins later in the week Rockets and Cavaliers Wednesday night.
Cougar's back on the football field for this Saturday's game
against t See. You don't call them Textan Christian or TCU.

Speaker 4 (01:49:45):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (01:49:46):
Because they don't like it?

Speaker 4 (01:49:47):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (01:49:47):
That's a good question. What they're called? I don't like that. Actually,
what they're whing about. That's the name of your Chris school.

Speaker 3 (01:49:53):
Let me give you.

Speaker 1 (01:49:53):
Let me give you schools that don't like what they're like?
What they what they are? You ready for this?

Speaker 5 (01:49:58):
B y U?

Speaker 6 (01:49:58):
Is that?

Speaker 1 (01:49:58):
Okay? B y U is okay? Bring them young? I
can say yes, ok Uh. Here's who doesn't like it?

Speaker 5 (01:50:04):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:50:04):
SMU does not like to be called Southern Methodists?

Speaker 4 (01:50:06):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (01:50:07):
I don't know, I have no I have no expansions
for any of these. Okay, okay? As Southern Methodist, Texas
Christian Texas l passo. Yeah, I guess. Louisiana Lafayette, Louisiana
Lafayette is Louisiana, Central Florida. They don't like they like
to be called U c F. Why don't that's this

(01:50:29):
doesn't make any sense. I don't disagree with you. Who
else isn't like? You can't call them Pennsylvania State? Uh,
you have to call me dragon. I'm not ross anymore.
I don't like it like Dragon is in that the
TV show on HBO Dragonnet. Oh you're talking about Game
of Throw. Yeah, the dragon's mom John Laura Calisi, mother

(01:50:57):
of dragons, the dragons mom the dragons. So he only
said that because when she came to Houston and on
the PA he called her the mother of dragons. He
has no context for the show. That was probably my
second most biggest viral moment ever. Yeah, that goes viral
all the time. Oh it was her, Oh, it was
definitely her. But when I called her the mother of dragons, Oh,

(01:51:21):
people lost because you had no idea, no clue. As
a matter of fact, I was so nervous about trying
to butcher the introduction. I wrote it down. Kalisi Caalise
was nice. The one scene I did watch her she
was being handled. What scene did you watch? It was
very early. Why did you watch only that scene? Yeah,

(01:51:41):
because I was trying to figure out how like the show. Now,
Oh and that turned you off? The show didn't, Well,
that's not the word I would use. The action was fine.
It was the verbiage that was kind of confused. Old English. Yeah,
I'm talking really fast us and talking and they weren't
that fast.

Speaker 5 (01:52:02):
It was.

Speaker 12 (01:52:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:52:04):
The Actually, now you did need to read like a
dissertation on every episode, which I did. Yes, I had
to go back and read read the recaps off the internet.
I did. You get it like a map of West
Roast scenes very early on Worse. We're good, hmm, mister
texteds everybody. Yeah, it's miss Texas, not mister West Roast.

(01:52:28):
I don't even know what that means. That's fine, Okay,
my wife's got this new show she's watching with Billy
Bob Thornton and uh land Man? Yeah, land Man isn't
Isn't that just Yellowstone? But instead of in Ranch?

Speaker 4 (01:52:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:52:41):
Was it Oklahoma or Texas? I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:52:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:52:43):
It's oil instead of whatever they were doing out there
in Yellowstone. They basically taking one plot line and just
changing states, like in California the gold Rush. I mean,
it's classic, isn't that what they did? Like you make
one spy movie at James Bond, then you make some
kind of other spy movies and you do Mission Impossible. Yeah,
feels about right, play off of each other. And then
when they're gonna be a Landman for Louisiana and we're

(01:53:04):
talking about the the Gumbo circuit. Yeah, you got Perry Mason.
Then you do Colombo, Dragnet Colombo, the Rockford Files, all
of it, La law and let's do the practice. Oh
how about this one. N cis New Orleans, Miami, San Antonio,
c s I, n cis, n cis Detroit. I mean,
you know, same thing, n C, n cis Brenham. And

(01:53:26):
there's like nineteen blank fires, Chicago fires, Brendan, Denver fires,
and nine one ones are everywhere too. Yeah, you and
I gotta we gotta sit down one long weekend and
we got to create a really good show. I think
the key to our show is do a show about nothing,
and we just we have Johnathan stayed with me on this.

(01:53:48):
We have four central characters, and then we have some
of their We have some of Ross's other friends that
come in as characters, like wacky neighbors. What's the theme,
what's the what's the what's the that's I'm glad you
brought that. I think that the theme of the show
would be Jonathan would be a show about nothing, well,
be nothing in particular. We'd go stuff that happens. Ross
and I would go to the same restaurant over and
over again, or we were like waiting in line at

(01:54:08):
a Chinese restaurant, like that's thirty minutes right there. Yes,
crazy stuff happens. Yeah, and then we could have and
then one of our friends could get a job with
it with a baseball team. Yes, as a traveling secretary. Okay,
I don't know the show. I'm trying so hard. Hold on,
we're not talking about the show. What do you talking about? Yeah?
And then how about this, Johnathan, would you join us

(01:54:29):
in a contest? What kind of contest?

Speaker 5 (01:54:31):
Matt?

Speaker 1 (01:54:32):
I'm glad you asked. Jonathan's a contest about who could
be the last one to survive not self pleasure pleasuring themselves.
What Yeah, here's what we need to do. Me you
ross and we'll get a girl at least put twenty
dollars down, and whoever is the last one did not
pleasure themselves wins the whole money. Yeah, hold eighty bucks

(01:54:57):
bucks or piece. Yeah, sounds great. It's a good idea.

Speaker 4 (01:55:03):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:55:04):
I'm so lost. You won't even lost about I'm just
rossing our talking about our future, playing so lost, he'll
be young again. I'm asking this call when I come back, hopefully,
explain it. All right, we gotta get a break anyway.
I think our idea sounds great. I think it's a great,
great idea. Matt Alright seven one three two one two

(01:55:28):
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven show about Nothing. I think it's got a chance.
Twelve fifty nine on Sports Talk seven ninety He's The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross all Right one o three

(01:55:51):
on Sports Talk seven ninety it is the final hour
of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross on a Monday again,
believe it or not. Today coming up in forty five minutes,
we're doing Famous Mills. What you'ren go with General Davis.

Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
Saw m.

Speaker 1 (01:56:09):
Yeah, I mean whatever Mills Davis, the Trent Jash Trumpeter.
Love that guy, love his great performer. So I'm alive
on concert once all right? Uh seven one three two
one two five is seven nine If you want to
join the conversation seven one three two one two five
seven nine is here? What are you laughing about?

Speaker 6 (01:56:24):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:56:25):
Oh, Cam Newton's hat. I like him on TV by
the way, Yeah, he looks It's like he looks like
the man with the yellow hat and Curious George, except
the hat is black. Yeah, he's good. I think he's
very good on the show. I'll take your word for it.
By the way, speaking of camp former Panthers, my son
has had some affiliation, my oldest with the Panthers for

(01:56:45):
so long. He was a big Cam Newton fan because
his name is Cameron. Well, the other day he gets
you know, he's got money. Now he's got a full
time job, which just greats me happy. And I'm like
thinking to myself, son, Oh, by the way, you know
what he did last week? That kind of irritated me.
What's up? I felt like I'm just airing dry law.
He went to the Renaissance Festival. Okay, that's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:57:03):
What's wrong with that?

Speaker 1 (01:57:04):
Well, he also just got jagg he bought a costume.
Oh really, yeah, he could be jolly Renaissance guy. He
was jolly Renaissance guy. Did he talk in ye old English?
He said, believe like a Turkey leg Poor kJ is
trying to call the show here. Hey, we have some

(01:57:24):
issues with our phones. Imagine are they still having issues
over there? Jonathan, kJ? Can you hear us? I don't
hear kJ. I don't know is this on? Is Jonathan?
Our phone sucked? They always suck okay, I'm sorry, manute
take any breath? Why okay, Jonathan, because we're having video

(01:57:46):
camera issues. But that's okay. We can't see our producer,
we can't get our phone screened in. Anything else is great?

Speaker 5 (01:57:52):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:57:52):
kJ, is that you?

Speaker 5 (01:57:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:57:57):
Just talk.

Speaker 1 (01:57:57):
I don't care what you care about we're talking about.
I don't care.

Speaker 5 (01:58:02):
It's always an adventure, man.

Speaker 1 (01:58:04):
Oh you think so. I'm living as adventure for twenty
hours a week.

Speaker 11 (01:58:06):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:58:07):
I gotta work with this guy. Come on now, kJ,
I give you a week off. Give me again, give
me something good, kJ.

Speaker 5 (01:58:13):
Man, real quick. I don't want this take to be
considered negative.

Speaker 1 (01:58:16):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:58:17):
But first and parbos, let me give a shout out
to the Rockets. I remember Shongoon's roocky year, watching him
and the Summer League, and uh me and I told
my dad at the time that I loved his foodwork.
I know, I know Jalen Green was the headliner, he
was a higher pick. But with what I saw Chagoon again,

(01:58:39):
I'm not sitting here saying I saw him being this
good this quick, but I knew he was gonna be
a good player, and he's more or less develop into
exactly what I thought it would be, so shout out
to him. My take on the Texans. Obviously, I'm a
Texas fan, so I appreciate the win, but it comes
a little bittersweet for me simply because it seems like

(01:59:01):
there is a lot of excitement for us doing what
we should have been doing all along, and that's winning
games against teams like this.

Speaker 1 (01:59:09):
There is kJ. There is no excitement whatsoever. There is
nobody at the water coolers at their offices today. If
they go to the office, there's nobody fist pumping. There's
nobody at the bars that were high five to each other.
There were people around this town yesterday, Jonathan, excuse me, kJ,
that we're going Are we gonna screw this up? Are

(01:59:30):
we gonna allow the Tennessee Titans to win this game? Oh,
by the way, some Matthew dude's gonna kick a field
goal for us at the buzzer and win. kJ. There
is zero buzz, zero energy. I don't care what uniforms
they wear. I don't care what water guys around the
water cooler saying. I don't care what media who think
their media are saying they're trying to get publicity because

(01:59:51):
the team is trying to get some positive buzz There
is no buzz to the football team. The only way
you get buzzes with the football team is you beat
somebody you're not supposed to beat. And that would have
start thirsty against the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 5 (02:00:00):
Absolutely. And the thing that gets me the most is
I look at Detroit, I look at the Rams and
the way they execute on offense, and I know the
main thing that people keep referring back to is the
fact that our offensive line is bad. We're not the
first team in the NFL history that had a videocre
offensive line. But some type of way, whether it be
to play calling, whether it be to the players a quarterback.

(02:00:21):
I'm looking at the game yesterday with Kansas City. Their
line isn't as bad as ours, but their line is bad,
so they're getting the ball like quick and it seems
like we keep falling. And when I say we, I
don't mean you guys, but it seems like the consensus
is we keep going back to their offensive line and
it's woes when the fact of the matter is a
lot of teams have bad offensive line, but they find

(02:00:42):
a way to beat up on the teams that they
should be And at least be competitive in the upper
echelon teams. And that's why, again I'm a grad. We're
five and five. Obviously I wanted to make the playoffs,
but until I think we've changed the mindset and the
Miko Ryans and the energy he had after yesterday's game
was too much for because I need you to have
that same energy when it's time to hold people accountable.

(02:01:04):
And I don't consistently see that you're a who rock guy.
Win by enemies necessary, and to find a win is
a win, but I need you to be consistent with it. Man,
When Guy's roped that getting fintasy, when Guy's rocked that
doing things on the field they shouldn't be doing, and
I hear what you guys gotta say, Man, let it go.

Speaker 1 (02:01:20):
Thank you Jay. Well, the Chiefs are losing two, Yeah,
Like everything's great for the Chiefs.

Speaker 5 (02:01:25):
No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (02:01:26):
They're five and five. No, there's teams that are struggling
to but the Chiefs have Super Bowl rings and appearances
and Hall of Fame quarterbacks and great receivers and Hall
of Fame tight end and overall their offensive line is
still significantly better than the Texans. Yeah, especially when the
Texans are putting out there. I was like, who's this dude?
I was watching the games because I was catching up
yesterday because I just got back into town, Like what

(02:01:49):
what is Trent Brown doing out there?

Speaker 12 (02:01:51):
He's huge?

Speaker 1 (02:01:52):
You see a Tanta ursery sack you gave up yesterday?
Oh my god. Mark Schaller is like, how does this happen?
He has been underwhelming, sad to say, except the bootlooking
media that loves the Texans, they're not going to tell
all these things. That's why you come to us. We're
being reels r E A l Z reels. Thank you, Matt,

(02:02:13):
You're welcome. Thank you Urban MT. It's I am urban empt.
Matt is keeping it a buck. Yes, we appreciate you.
Given hunter, we ass well, that's what cam Ward said,
and they are and they are ass Texans have one
three of the last four. They're five and five. Texans
are mid. Look there is this is what they've been
mired and basically their entire existence. They're not horrible, they're

(02:02:35):
not embarrassing. They win the games they are supposed to win,
and they lose the ones they're supposed to and so
you know what, buck the tread let's go beat the
Buffalo Bills on Thursday, and then you start talking about
good vibes and energy. But the reality is this. In
case you brought this, I'm not the exclusive factor of
the phone call, but uh, Demiko is super conservative. Dimiko

(02:02:57):
doesn't necessarily balance use his timeouts particularly well. He does
not challenge particularly well. He's basically in the line with
eighty percent of their coaches in the NFL. What's the
prognosis on editing gram? How much time is he supposed
to miss? Wait, we don't even hear about Joe Mixon anymore. Oh,
he's off the team the inside in my mind, the
iner had it for you a long time ago. Alright, relax, Uh,

(02:03:18):
Woody Marks has been decent, decent, decent. How was the
running game yesterday? I don't know what they ended up with,
but wood he Mark's had a couple of big runs
at the end of the game to is it. Yeah,
I don't know what they ended up with yardage wise
and yards per carry. Do you know who the second
biggest impactful player for the Texans offensively has been this year?

(02:03:41):
Second biggest? Yeah, Dalton Schultz. Dalton Schultz. He's been good.
They keep doing these play actions to the right or
left and then let him leak out the other side.
It's working everywhere. Every time that ball is thrown and
it's a catchable pass to him, he catches it. Dalton
Schultz has been an unsung hero for this Texans football team. Yes, yes, oh,
eighteen carries for forty four yards for what he marks.

(02:04:03):
I thought it was better than that. Okay, my quick
math tells me that's about two and a half yards
two point four yards per carry. Folks, that's bad. That's
Ashton genty level. Got that right, and don't doubt me,
am I running back prediction. No, you're gonna be wrong.
You said he'd never in his career is running for

(02:04:23):
a thousand yards. I wrote down the time on that one.
If you were going to go time checket, go ahead.
I should get an inflation bump. Oh really, No, inflation's
down because seven No, everything's perfect because it was an
insaneteen game schedule. Seventeen games. Your academy has never been better. Well,
I don't care about the county. I can come up
with my football conversation. Well, inflation's down, mady, Okay, I'm

(02:04:45):
telling you I was not wrong about Joe Mixon. I
wasn't wrong about Stefan Diggs, who, by the way, is
having a terrific season in Buffalo. No New England seven,
not Buffalo, but in New England.

Speaker 5 (02:04:58):
I was.

Speaker 1 (02:04:58):
I was right about c J. Garner Onsen. What were
you right about there? He was a pud. You didn't
you said he was gonna be out for the year.
He was, no, well, not in a different way. He
was injured out for the year.

Speaker 5 (02:05:15):
I did.

Speaker 1 (02:05:18):
And then uh practice squad I think for the two teams,
since the Texans practice squad on the second save, I
believe he's a practice squad. In the the Edmonton Eskimos
of the Canadian Football League, Mart's men car they even
have live operatorship. Is everything automated? I have not running
out long? No, you have still talked to somebody, don't
you If you want to complain, Yeah, and they want

(02:05:42):
to offer you. They want to charge you all those insurances.
Be a representative representative agent live in order to better
assist you. Now, I was thinking about people that you
go to the airport, you know you're hand him your
driver's license. They want to they want to upgrade you
a car because man, I get you this great deal,
get you this extra long suv but getting way worse
gas mileage fourteen seventy five a day. I'm like, no,

(02:06:03):
thank you. Then okay, I was gonna take what I'm
originally offered. And then they give you the same car
for so go.

Speaker 4 (02:06:09):
Ahead and take it, jerks rint a car people slimy.

Speaker 1 (02:06:15):
I thought I was gonna get banned from Mertz when
I went three thousand miles in like two weeks. They
didn't say anything. Was it just did you buy unlimited miles? Yeah,
well I've heard that unlimited. They still they unlimited, like
they're not going to charge you, but they were reserved
to rite to be like, because you can't just get one,
they can't charge you for giving. They know they can't
say unlimited, but then give you dirty look. They won't
charge you, but they can also put you on the

(02:06:35):
like don't rent them any more cars list. If you
go like ten thousand miles in a couple of weeks,
you'll get an ind up on a list. That's what
I read the things you learned in the Matt Tomashael Ross.
I don't like to drive, so I don't I tried
to avoid cars under all circumstances. It's limos and big
stretch issue. Ees. Yeah, well I went to Montana back
that was like three thousand miles. Triple to Lifetime is great.

(02:06:58):
You just put the radio and listen to you one
to Yeah. You ate when you ate, You drank when
you drank, stopped in I'marillo in Denver and Wyoming. You
forced you know what you did? You Forrest Gump. The
trip I did was great. Highly recommend only hit only
hit one Bird and two Mountain Lions, No Mountain Lions
one fourteen. The Matt Thomas Show with ross seven one

(02:07:18):
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero You, Aggie fans,
what was more startling the thirty to three halftime setback
or the fact that you're the DPS officers going after
South Carolina football players. Texas fans, you know what? The

(02:07:39):
Alma Bow is a lovely place in San Antonio late December, right,
It's kind of like it doesn't have an sec time.
It's your home away from home. Rocket fans. Four straight
wins overtime against Orlando, and I want to say, Rossie,
that might have been the first ever game winning or
tying game tying shot in operam Chengun's career. Probably not

(02:08:00):
I met a lot of them, but it certainly looked
good yesterday. Plus Katie is a beast seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. Speaking of the Rockets,
Rocket fans, I got to call you out a little bit,
will do that coming back, reports him hearing about what
happened yesterday at the Toyota Center before the game with
the Bobbleheads one point fifteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.

(02:08:20):
All right, so there was a lot of people outside
Tota Center before the game yesterday because I was likeing,
maybe they want to go to the arena early enough
to catch some pregame shoot around, guys warming up, big
game between Orlando and Houston. Rockets are playing well. And
I realized, well, it was for a giveaway, and giveaways
have various charms t shirts, So do one thing coffee

(02:08:42):
cups with another maybe a Hawaiian shirt or sometimes the
Bobbleheads come into play. They welcome to Houston. Bobblehead was
the giveaway yesterday at the Tota Center and they were
giving away I think three thousand of them, yes, three thousand.
Uh some people waited. Is their right to do that?

(02:09:05):
You scan your ticket and you get your bibblehead. Yes,
some people got a bibblehead and then you just left.
That's strike number one. Got the bibblehead and left. Strike two, Rossie,
and there's no strike three, just strike two. In this
particular case, they went to eBay as soon as they

(02:09:26):
possibly couldn't put it up there. Yeah, one hundred and
forty dollars. If you want to get a bibblehead off
of the eBay at a gift that the Rockets are
giving away yesterday, Look, this is not get off my lawn.
There's one right now for one hundred and fifty and
forty one hundred and forty seven. This one's for two hundred.

Speaker 5 (02:09:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:09:51):
The Rockets did these as a thank you. They didn't think.
They didn't do this for you to go try to
make some aftermarket deals happening. There is nothing we've lost value.
If I got a Kevin Durant bibblehood in which I

(02:10:12):
did not receive yesterday because I didn't buy a ticket,
I mean, I'm working the game, so I mean they
could have somebody could have handed me one, but I
didn't take it. There was an offer, didn't care. It's
Kevin Durant. It's one of the greatest players of all time.
He's wearing my rocket gear. And if I'm caring, and
if I am a bobblehood collector, which we do know
people in our lives that are, that's one you just

(02:10:34):
don't need to put up there. Well, then you could say, well,
if there's somebody, somebody's gonna be out there to do it,
and it takes one sucker to buy it. Yeah, I mean,
if there's a mark, Yeah, that's kind I'm kind of
struggling with. If there's a market for it and somebody
is gonna make money off of it. But they didn't
make it. They didn't give they didn't make those things

(02:10:55):
as a way for you to say, hey, rocket fans
want to make some money, some of your money back here,
let's give away our premium mind in which we charge
you nothing for and you go to try to sell it.
I just think it's what's the solution. There isn't a solution.
Hand them out like, no, there's no solution the second
quarter to everyone or something. No, because that doesn't stop

(02:11:15):
anybody from going to put him on and think they'll
do that. But at least I got to say it
the second quarter. We hand him out of the third
fourth quarter. Now, the problem is it's too hard for
the for the pot. I mean, you have people going
through the stands and it's just easier to do with
the way they're doing it now. It's just I just
think it's a bad look. But it's not just Houston
does its Houston, And it's also the Astros. Every bobblehead

(02:11:37):
they put ends up on eBay, every single one. And
you always have now bobblehead guy who's over there getting
like five bobbleheads and slapping them up on eBay. I mean,
that's ridiculous. I feel very confident in the following statement.
If you are bobblehead collector, the James, the Kevin Durant
walcomeby Houston biblehead collector is not going to get you.

(02:11:59):
Twe empty five times the value. You're not going to
hold onto it for a month or a year. In
five years and all of a sudden, this bobblehead is
worth ten fifteen thousand. You gotta sell them now. This
isn't gonna be worth one hundred and fifty bucks in
a couple of years. There's no way. So my question
is this is your life that void of importance that
you would go to the arena, grab your bobblehead, leave

(02:12:24):
the arena, run home and put your babble head that
you spent hours or I mean at least an hour
I'm assuming right, unless you got there. So it's gotta
be worth it for some of these bubblehead horse Now,
if you're a bibblehead collector and you're keeping it, that's fine.
We know when in this building. Yeah, I'm okay with
collections on things. But if you're just bobblehead flipper, you're weird.

(02:12:45):
If you got to the arena at the arena open
at five, you got there probably at three. How lucrative
is this business? You get there at three, you get
your bibblehead at five, year home by five thirty or six.
You didn't watch the game. You spent probably bare minimum
on one ticket of fifty to seventy five dollars if
you were sitting the upt I want to hear from

(02:13:06):
a bibblehead flipper. I don't think they're out there. There's
got to be dozens of there's ten of them on
sale right now, so abay more than that brand new inbox,
Kevin Durant bobblehead. Who this one's only one hundred and
twenty five. But do you see how I attached the

(02:13:27):
time charge of this, all that time to make one
hundred and twenty five dollars? Well, if you got five
of them, how could you get five of them?

Speaker 5 (02:13:35):
Oh? Here we go?

Speaker 1 (02:13:36):
Oh bibblehead guys are guys here? It's Gordy. Yeah, if
you're keeping it, are you locked on bibbleheads too?

Speaker 12 (02:13:44):
I'm a collector, all right, but I'm a collector in that.

Speaker 9 (02:13:47):
You don't flip. I get the bubblehead, I own it.
It's mine. I take it out of the box. I
don't keep it in the box, and I put on
display and that's it. There was I was in line
yoester that there was a family. I thought it was
a family in front of me. They brought thirty minutes
before the door's open. They had a group show up
with him. There's a guy with a backpack. There's several kids.

(02:14:09):
They're all of different ethnicity, so they're not related. They
are and they're meeting each other for the first time.

Speaker 12 (02:14:16):
Hey, how you doing.

Speaker 9 (02:14:17):
Hey, Yeah, there's a meetup. And she was giving this
young this older short lady was giving directions. She was going,
when we get in, you're going to hand them to him,
and he's gonna put him in the bag.

Speaker 12 (02:14:27):
Oh, it's a whole operation.

Speaker 1 (02:14:29):
So they let these kids go to the game for
free or something, and when they walk off with the bottle,
you're gonna go to Rockets And I would do that.
I go to the Rocket game for free. Keep bubble head.

Speaker 9 (02:14:39):
I just pulled up eBay dot com. There was the
top search result under bubble head one hundred and fifty
two dollars.

Speaker 1 (02:14:45):
There's one kid. There's at least ten of them, from
one hundred, one thirty to one fifty ish. Again, like,
I'm this is a sign of the apocalypse.

Speaker 9 (02:14:56):
Who is I'm collecting in that I will buy a
ticket to the game and go get the bibblehead. I
Am not going to the secondary market and paid one
hundred and thirty one hundred fifty allys.

Speaker 12 (02:15:04):
But apparently people do that. So where there's a market,
people are gonna find it.

Speaker 1 (02:15:08):
There's no way anybody, any any red blooded an American
Rockets fan, it's spending one hundred and fifty dollars on
these cheap, o hot bibbleheads.

Speaker 9 (02:15:16):
How much does your kid zero try and complain that
they wanted tell them to shut up and go most
some lawns make me one hundred fifty bucks lawns anymore?
Kid who's a big Rockets fan, he's like dad's it's
Kevin Duray Paul. That's the saddest part is once I
was in the game and I'm walking, I'm seeing I'm
literally seeing them folding up the boxes because they ran out,
and there's kids coming into the game with their parents

(02:15:38):
that aren't getting one because these doofises are all the
children electing them.

Speaker 1 (02:15:42):
I don't care about that. Life's hard, kid. So instead
of the Rockets saying, hey, let's give something really cool
to our audience, they're basically feeding a group of people
that are looking to take these things and turn them
into a profit. I'm saying this, do the Rockets really
care the tickets are sold? Well, that's the thing is
that what a Sunday night at six o'clock game over Orlando?
Have a exactly it was there attendants boost because of it?

(02:16:05):
Will you tell me? Well, put it this way, you
were in the building. Every game is sold out. It
has been so far sold out with air quotes, whatever tickets,
how full has it been? Full? Tickets sold in? People
in the building are two different animals. We've talked about
that before.

Speaker 12 (02:16:19):
You ever go through the wood Force lounge.

Speaker 9 (02:16:20):
Though, there's a lot of people in there enjoying their
cocktails that have seats down low, and they're not sitting
in their seats.

Speaker 1 (02:16:26):
I'm saying so thankfully, I am the journalist working the
game and try not having time to hang out with
that journalist raft.

Speaker 9 (02:16:33):
They should sell just those tickets. Could I pay fifty
bucks and just go hang out of the bar at
Toyota Center.

Speaker 1 (02:16:39):
I don't need a seat. I just want to be
in the building. I don't know how people do it
at the bar. It's the prices of the bar. Oh
my god, forty six dollars for a single beverage. So no,
it's got to be a double.

Speaker 9 (02:16:50):
So last last game, I ordered a you know, like
a white cloth thing and they can't give you the can.
They have to pour it into a cup. Well, the
cup they poured in is that massive clear cup. It
only fills up half of the cup. So then you
feel like, you know what they're like, do you want
to double it?

Speaker 5 (02:17:06):
Sure?

Speaker 12 (02:17:06):
I'll double it, so they pour a second one in
there and it fills up the cup. Thirty six dollars
for two White Claws.

Speaker 1 (02:17:14):
White Club before it is any good. It's fine.

Speaker 12 (02:17:17):
It's all the Seltzers of it.

Speaker 1 (02:17:18):
It's like, yeah, it's the new MIC's hard limit or
whatever it's. It tastes like a Seltzer water kind of
with and the alcohol taste is minimal, So it's good
for uh, training wheels, drinkers.

Speaker 12 (02:17:28):
It's not a knock on. It's not not going to.

Speaker 9 (02:17:33):
But I see people getting up going to the bar
four or five times during the game, like, brother, you
just dropped.

Speaker 1 (02:17:38):
Four hundred bucks. Well, someone likes that very much. Everybody
likes it.

Speaker 12 (02:17:42):
Everybody likes that.

Speaker 3 (02:17:43):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (02:17:44):
The Matt Thomas Center opens up, I'll be charged the
same prices too, because all gonna do the same. No,
I can't afford it, but they tend to do it.

Speaker 9 (02:17:49):
And ORG did the same thing on their sweet or
the what's that middle level called the whatever that is
that's cow section.

Speaker 12 (02:17:56):
It's not the sweets, it's the club level.

Speaker 9 (02:17:58):
They have bars now there with barstools and you can
sit back there and they got TVs. You could sit
at the bar watching the game on TV, and I'm going,
why did you come to the game.

Speaker 12 (02:18:08):
You could do this at your corner pub.

Speaker 1 (02:18:11):
Don't ask me. I don't know alcoholism culture, so just
bet my general point, I just want you to take
you If you get a bibble hood, just give it
to somebody you like or your kids. Why are you
flipping on eBay for AE hundred fifty? But think of
straight if you buy the ticket, like because tickets are cheap,
it's not like you're I guess you get them like

(02:18:32):
last second, and I don't know. Maybe they have season tickets.
I don't know. I don't know how to have like
five six. That's where I'm like, where are you? Where's
the net value here?

Speaker 9 (02:18:39):
I saw that with the guy with Astros, like a
guy that had a whole group he collected at an
Astros game to collect these bobbleheads, and then they were
on eBay that night for forty dollars. I'm like, you
probably spent forty dollars for the tickets with fees and
everything else.

Speaker 1 (02:18:52):
So what's your net profit here? I don't know if
you're making I don't know, let's say even fifty apiece
and you get ten of them five hundred three bucks.
So it's like a bobblehead society of of guys that
get together and say, hey, let's let's turn a profit
on this together.

Speaker 9 (02:19:07):
Oh, there's a whole underworld out there, the bubblehead market
deep beneath Houston, Texas.

Speaker 1 (02:19:13):
The bubblehead under Bibblehead. Do you have probably about one hundred?
Are you sure? It feels a little low? It's not
that many. Does somebody make the cut? Do you ever
like have to make roster cuts.

Speaker 6 (02:19:26):
You have?

Speaker 1 (02:19:27):
Do you have a shelf cap where you have to
get people, you know, like not guarantee there finally getting
called up to the big leagues.

Speaker 9 (02:19:32):
It's like all right, kolbe Ra, Like, yeah, the former players,
they get moved to the Bragman got moved.

Speaker 1 (02:19:39):
You're pressing Tucker bobbleheads in the way back in Bragman
still has a place in a front row.

Speaker 2 (02:19:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:19:45):
And as you may.

Speaker 9 (02:19:46):
My two favorites though, are They did a limited edition
bun b one where he's standing on the corner outside
Minute Maye.

Speaker 12 (02:19:52):
That's cool.

Speaker 9 (02:19:53):
And then I got one Mike Jones the other Houston
Rapper bubblehead kind of two different levels.

Speaker 1 (02:20:00):
Was expensive bibblehead. Like if you went, if you sold
every one of them on there on email, which one
would get you the biggest return.

Speaker 9 (02:20:06):
I don't have the boxes anymore, so I wouldn't get
full value. But uh, the bun Bee one was like
a hundred bucks. Okay, yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (02:20:13):
You don't a bit like Gordy drink white Claws and
uh and enjoy your bibble heads. Sounds like a time there.
I don't know.

Speaker 12 (02:20:21):
You get your one bubble head.

Speaker 1 (02:20:23):
It's a little white claws, a girls drink anything, a
little pear cranberry vaka guy.

Speaker 9 (02:20:28):
Soly of five walked in the mom, the the mom,
the dad, the three kids, and two of the kids
were real little and every one of them is holding
a bobblehead.

Speaker 12 (02:20:37):
I'm like, why do they need five?

Speaker 1 (02:20:39):
I feel like ticket baby, let's go it.

Speaker 12 (02:20:42):
But if you're family of five, you get one.

Speaker 1 (02:20:45):
We can get one now shaming and who who gets not?

Speaker 12 (02:20:47):
You're all in the same house.

Speaker 1 (02:20:49):
I'm gonna Rotta. You get it on Tuesdays, Timmy, and
you get on Wednesday. You don't pull the head off.

Speaker 12 (02:20:56):
You get two because the kid's probably gonna.

Speaker 1 (02:21:01):
Break, you know, l s U math. That's terrible. Go
get ready for a game against who they playing this week?
Somebody sucks you? Yeah, Central Arkansas or something like that.
Louisiana Tech. Are you all playing Western Kentucky? Yeah, there
we go. Oh, Jeez.

Speaker 12 (02:21:19):
Has got Mercer, Bama's got Eastern Illinois.

Speaker 1 (02:21:22):
Whos Texas stand's got Stamford Texas Arkansas Conference game? Texas
Christian Sark was crying about we played all our dog
cons earlier this season. We don't get a brick. Finally
we're gonna hear from start coming back on the break. Wow, No,
yeah we are. What did he say? You'll find out?

Speaker 6 (02:21:38):
Now?

Speaker 1 (02:21:38):
Extend him. He needs a fifteen year extension. Folks, open
a minute of Sark goodness next. All right, we mentioned
earlier today that weekly press conferences around the SEC that
would include head football coach Steve Sarkisyan at the University
of Texas. I have not heard this, but I will
say in fairness, Ross that who Texas A and m

(02:22:01):
grads friends of the show sent me this and said
you got to play this today. Oh really, so Aggi's
got long horns on the mine. That's shocking. Needless to say,
there may be a spot where Rossi, you may not
be overly pleased with what is being discussed. Okay, again,
I can't speak to that for sure, but here is

(02:22:22):
Steve Sarkisian, and I'll make sure I lead into this
properly here. Oh, he didn't talk about anybody going to
the bathroom, man, you No, he was asked if his
team has underachieved.

Speaker 11 (02:22:33):
Oh my god, that's into who voted us number one? Okay,
what I think is that this team has competed their tailoff.
They've been faced with a lot of different adversity and injuries,
and a lot of stuff has come across this team's plate,
and I'm very, very proud of them with their resiliency.
You know, at the end of the day, at the

(02:22:55):
University of Texas, we're held to a very high standard,
and the standard is to compete for championships year in
and year out, and we're going to play the best
teams in the country. We're going to schedule the best
teams in the country. But by the end of the season,
we'll play of our twelve regular season opponents, five of
those teams will be top ten teams when we played them,
so nearly half our schedule and we have an opportunity

(02:23:17):
at the end of the regular season to do something
that nobody's done since twenty nineteen, and that's bet three
top ten ranked teams in the regular season. Last team
to do that was LSU with Joe Burrow. So have
we been faced with a pretty difficult schedule? Have we
been faced with high expectations? Sure, but that's why we
came here, so we'll be okay.

Speaker 1 (02:23:41):
He was starting off on a well we have a
really difficult schedule, and I was like, you created this,
and then he eventually did say, well, we signed up
for this, so I will I was going to back off,
and I'm going to back off on a criticism of
that because he hasked to. He said, we signed up
for this. Yeah, I would say it's been an underachievement
of of the very high expectations. But Steece keys and
didn't vote the team number one overall. Well maybe he did.

(02:24:04):
Actually no, he thought coach definitely did he coaches? Boy, oh,
he didn't know it was in everybody. It's unachieving. Preseason
number one. Are supposed to be in the top ten
for most of the season, not necessarily be number one
all season long. I mean that people are supposed to peak.
Nobody expects any more in the world of the SEC,
especially to go undefeated. Now Big ten maybe a little

(02:24:25):
bit different. Indiana and Ohio State would back you up
on that, but SEC is supposed to beat each other up.
I just don't know if three losses was on the agenda,
but there was certainly a possiblity for that to happen.
There was nobody thinking that they were going to go
to Ohio State and that that was a gimme victory.
And there was no automatic thought that they were going

(02:24:46):
to go into this SEC slate and not lose at
least one, if not two games, which they have I
thought two three losses, maybe even four before the season.
So I don't know if I if my expectations. It
depends on how what happens the rest of the season.
Of course, you got to take care of business against
Arkansas at home, and then you have to beat the Aggies.
Otherwise it is four losses, I think is a massive underachievement.

(02:25:09):
Nine to three with this schedule. It's fine, it's not great.
It's it's basically mid because I mean, we do have
to remember that even if it's your nine and three,
three of those wins are against what San Jose State
UTEP and yeah, ut San Antonio. So the Florida loss bad,

(02:25:30):
Oklahoma win good, Vanderbilt win good, Ohio State and the
Georgia losses not great, and especially the way that it
ended up with the final score against Georgia. Will you
allow me to please look at twenty twenty six schedule?
Sure if you want. Okay, I'm gonna it real quick.
I think it's missed. No, No, it's Ohio State at
home is the big one, Texas State at home, Ohio

(02:25:50):
State at home, UTSA at home. Guys don't go anywhere. Well,
they went to Ohio State this year. It's called home
and home. Matt, You and Dallas at LSU, at Missouri
at Tennessee at LSU and at Missouri at Tennessee home,
Arkansas home, Florida ho, Mississippi State home old miss at

(02:26:12):
fighting Texas and him at the greatest coach of all
time met Mike Elko, be tough ill he's gonna still
be there too. Yeah, you got a new deal then,
reason I brought this up nine and three this year
right high end at Tennessee too, Oh lordie nine and
three next year? Any heat then we'll see any heat.

(02:26:33):
Maybe Arch gets better. See what's happened the recruiting class
I think is top tennish. Yeah, money's coming in, still good.
It's hard to win, man, hard to win. All we
do at you of h is win win, win, win win.
Who never won a championship?

Speaker 5 (02:26:48):
Ever?

Speaker 1 (02:26:48):
We're getting closer, though close I ever been getting there.
That's not what you literally that's the last least thing
you do, unless you're talking about golf in the seventies.
All right, message for you kook fan com losers, but
you take more shots than that I do. Yeah, they started,
I'm gonna finish it. Okay, losers. Go to the game

of you that are have a rooting interest in from
a betting standpoint, the Buffalo Bills are a three and
a half point favorite Thursday, seven twenty. If the Texans
are going to be legitimately a playoff contender, they have
to win this games. Thus Rossie would make it a
really need to win game, not a must Now, if

(02:29:19):
you don't know, there is a three way tie with
two other teams at five and five. I would have
never in a million years would have thought Houston Baltimore
and Kansas City would have all been five and five.
They are seeds eight, nine and ten in the AFCED
Top seven. Make it who's in the seventh spot? The
Jacksonville Jaguars, who throttled the Los Angeles Chargers yesterday but

(02:29:43):
lost to the Texans the week before. Now, you could
have multiple teams with the same records, So it's going
to come down to I think conference record okay, and
I believe the Texans would do okay in that. Yeah,
they lost to the Rams and the who else Buccaneers?
Hm hmm, Yeah, take their business in the AFC TCB

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
