(01:36):

ass Wednesday where he's six to emptythe bucket, you know, if you
want, like, what do youcall your our guy Andy angry? And
and yeah, but what do youcall what do you call angry? If
he's like it's red ass, it'sempty the bucket on being a red ass.
Yeah right, so it's like it'slike the Wrath of Sean but just
like for four hours straight fans.Yeah yeah, and let me get back

(02:00):
to something here. So it's whatmy So it's what my ass Friday?
I don't know, I have noidea, so it's easy said, it's
my ass Friday this morning? Yeah, no, allegedly, Yeah, interesting
stuff? Pretty interesting it is?Or is it? I don't know.

(02:20):

a lot of big matchups this weekend, do we? So it's pleasing to
the to the eye, it's okay, pleasing to the on Saturdays or Sundays,
both Sunday, right, Yeah, some rivalries this week A few of
them, Yeah, a few ofthem. Because see how CJ. Stroud

(03:02):
does against Kyler Murray. Kyler Murrayin a second game back from injury from
that torn ACL last year. Seehow the Texans can stop him. We
got some audio from Demico Ryans talkingabout Kyler Murray. We'll get into that
next segment. But yeah, Ithink obviously the game that we're looking forward

(03:23):
to this Sunday is University of HoustonOlklahoma State exactly. There's that it is
senior Day. Yeah, uh huh. You'll hear that at six twenty eight
with my uh Cougar Daily Update.Stay tuned for that shameless promo. There

that? Ye what else we gothere? Don't want that? Well,

(03:43):
pop on over just outside the loopyou are No, we uh, we're
gonna have to see how if NRGStadium is gonna be packed once it holds
about seventy two something like that.Yeah sounds about right. I'm saying holiday
weekend people are on the people areleaving town. Are they leaving this soon?

(04:09):
Do people leave the sound A lotof people take allat like it's a
whole week, whole week off nextweeks though, we'll be here. Oh
yeah, we'll be here. Yeah, we'll be on there till day every
Wednesday. Yeah that's correct. Yeah, maybe you'll come in on Friday just
because you love it. I willnot be here Friday, coming on Black
Friday. Yeah, I'll be shopping. He'll be shopping. Yeah, yeah,
shopping for the Did you make suredid you send an email and let

(04:30):
him know? I did? Yehokay, just making sure. Yeah,
Well we're off, we're off Friday, I know. Yeah. So I
was being a wise ass. Yeah, you know it's in your ass Friday.
So there you go. It's notno, no, okay. Uh
so there's well there's that, andwe got the uh got some good rivalry
games you're talking about. And thenyou got the Texans at the crib seventy

(04:53):
two and twenty and I said seventytwo. Yeah, I went under the
showcase. The show you did bya two hundred couple hundred couple of fouls,
you would win. I won theshowcase you did, no, by
just two and twenty. You said, oh so I said seventy two.
Yeah, that's right. Two hundredand twenty A big Showcase win. That's
that's a huge one. It mightbe the best ever. Means that the

(05:15):
the Texans win the division with thiswin. What do you think about that?
Apple? I like that? Apple? You do? Yeah? When
do they play Jacksonville Dy after Thanksgiving? Next week? Yeah? Sunday after
thanks Day? Sunday after thanks VyI met correct, Yes, hmm,
I'll go out on a limb.Okay, is it even a limb?

(05:38):
Schedules favorable for a for a teamthat finished with a bad record and they've
got I mean, obviously you getit. Usually an easier schedule obviously,
but the uh, you know,Pemphing to play the Baltimore's and the Cincinnatis
and the Pittsburgh's not exactly the easiest. In Cleveland, that's not easy,
you know, get in the Southand both. If they win the next

(06:01):
two games, get them to sevenand four. I think that Jacksonville is
gonna have every every ounce of troubleclosing out the division. If they take
care of this one and Jacksonville andgo two two up on Jacksonville in the
division, I think they can winthe division. That'll get them to seven
with six games to go. Fivehundred gets them in the playoffs. Yeah,

(06:27):
yep. And it's very both gamesat home. Both games are definitely
winnable. One you have a strongholdover the other. One. The guy's
playing a second game in a yearat quarterback. They've got a favorable schedule,
They've got three straight home games righttheir game after the Jaguars against the
Broncos, which will be a test, a bigger test now than we thought

(06:48):
it would have been. Possibly atthe in Week three, the way that
defense was getting their ass handed tothem. They're playing better. This is
it's starting to get to the pointwhere we do this stuff. The speculation
in the offseason about who's going youknow, I mean in the halfway through
the season, on what's going tohappen and what are they going to do
and are they going to get this? And can they make the playoffs?
And who's the MVP. Three winnablegames will prove that they can handle success

(07:13):
if they can handle this, andyou get if you get through November and
looking at the first week of December, let's see, they would be they
have three more games this month,is that correct? This month? Now?
Twenty fourth, it'll be the firstearly November's game, the third game
of the month, right, Thethird one would be the third home game
will be December third, third,Yeah, Okay, if you can get

(07:35):
through the next three weeks and youwere able to pull this off, that
would be what five wins in arow, yep, and get them to
eight and four. Yeah, theywin the division if that's the case.
And I don't care what Jacksonville does, as long as they take care of
Jacksonville. They do that. Andit's not like you're saying, well,
they got to beat San Francisco Jacksonvilleand they got to beat a hot Detroit

(07:59):
team. You know, it's notlike you're saying that we're saying they got
to beat an Arizona team that theyshould beat Kyler Murray or not they're better.
Two is they're playing a Jacksonville teamthat jazzy this week. Jacksonville should
people should be on alert because Jacksonvillewas he humiliated last week. So I'm
assuming they're going to show up andplay. But you know how to play
them, and and you already beathim in their building. You got him

(08:20):
home set's winnable. And then thethird one it's Denver. I don't trust
Denver to be consistently great, soyou never know what you're gonna get.
But I know this, you canforce Russ Wilson, who's having a better
year this year, throwing like sixteentouch him he's having he thought, I
mean, hasn't he thrown like fourteenor fifteen touchdowns already? Twelve touchdowns somewhere
in there, twelve to eighteen toucheighteen So he's one of the league leaders.

(08:43):
Yeah, he's one of the leagueleaders in touchdown passes. He's playing
a lot better with Sean Payton.Remember we said we'd stand up and say
raiser, Anne, and say iswas it only Hacket or was it both?
Or did he? Was he undercoach or was he you know?
I also think I don't think hewas properly focused last year. But he's
playing really good football, which shouldtell us Sean Payton has impacted him and

(09:03):
he has got his game back. And he looks a lot more like the
old Russ Wilson than the new one. So as much as we give make
fun of his commercials and stuff,he has elevated his game. He's elevated,
which is a good thing, whichis dangerous for this team because you
want last year' Rus Wilson. Butthat's three weeks away. Deal with that
then. But I can tell youthat the way that the Texans are playing

(09:24):
and the confidence they seem to begathering, we are no longer just talking
about well they'll get by this year. Let's get to file. You know
a little close to five hundreds. You can get on a seventeen game schedule
to win eight games. They're notthinking that now, and I don't know
how many fans are either. Soas far as howbody you are going to
show up at seventy two thousand withthe holidays, I'm going to say you're
probably gonna get sixty something just becauseof the holidays, and maybe a surprise

(09:50):
they'll say it's a bit legitimate whereevery seat's full. Yeah, maybe if
it was now next week, that'sanother thing coming out of the holiday week,
and will people be back to go. I know this, you're getting
some good football. So if you'resaying to yourself, well, I'd like
to come back to my holidays threehours sooner than I, you know,
six hours sooner than I normally would. The Texans last year or the year
before would have made you say,no, I'm staying on holiday. This

(10:11):
one you'll say, maybe I'll comeback and go go to the game in
person, come back a handful hoursearlier, because I want to see what
they're doing. That that that's whatthey've started to accomplish here. And I
don't think we ever bad mouthed Russ'sRuss Wilson's commercials, Oh no, never,
the danger it, oh yeah, the danger Witch. No yeah,
and mister unlimited unlimited No no,never did that. No, and his

(10:33):
game matched his commercials. They allsucked. Okay, oh yeah, the
game matched the commercials. They alldo sucked. So you mean to tell
me you never got the danger witchfrom Subway? No, man, dide,
I haven't gone to that's. That'sthat store, that silent shop.
In five years, six years, haven't done it. And I'm sure I'll

(10:56):
not go and get the Russ Wilsonwitch with dangerous danger. Ye that that
one. Okay? If they cameto you and said, hey, Sean,
yes I'm going, Yeah, we'regonna endorse you. I'm all in
for a year made fresh Subway madefresh. You already got the slow dude?
You kidding me? See, I'mthe you know why, I'm the
perfect guy to endorse it. Yeah, just let me. I do you

(11:18):
want to know why? Why?Because just ask me? Uh? Is
because you got to if I goindorse. Remember I always said, unless
I believe it, that means yourmade fresh stuff is convinced me to come
back. That I've left for atime. Now convince me to come back.
Hey man, I didn't know. Now I'm here. Get the Salsowitch,
the south Switch. That's we're goingwith the Southwich, the Susowitch made

(11:41):
fresh. Yeah. See like thatdamn Ray would take a bite of it.
Yep, salsowitch, I mean, why are you hating? No,
I'm not. I sing a jinglefor him if they want to. We
know that, damned rights. Yeah, we know that. You know I'm
not a ready to blow a quardor two. Well the lyric for the

(12:03):
chords did what did TRIPLEY say acouple of days ago? Doesn't blow them
away? It just blows them.Yeah, Well that's a wish. Yeah,
it'll just blow you, yeah awayaway. Yeah, little hesitation in
there, yep, it will now, I'm just telling you, brother it,
yes, I can. But theTexans are in good position. I

(12:24):
like where they're at right now. They are in good position. What did
Demico Ryans have to say about playingagainst Kyler Murray this weekend? We'll hear
from the head coach and discuss itnext on Sports Talk seven to eighty.

and Tripley here with you this morningon a Friday. Texans and Cardinals noon
kickoff from NRG Stadium. On Sunday, the Ravens beat the Bengals in Thursday
Night football. Demiico Ryans, talkingto the media, spoke about Kyler Murray,

(14:22):
the quarterback for the Cardinals. Ifyou remember, this is only Kyler
Murray's second game back, second gameany year, coming back from a torn
acl This is what the head coachof the Texans had to say about the
quarterback for the Cardinals. With theCardinals, I think it starts with Kyler
Murray first and foremost getting him back. You talk about an explosive, dynamic
playmaker at the quarterback position in oneof the premier athletes in the NFL right

(14:46):
now, does a really good jobpassing the football, but as we all
know him, with his scramble ability, that's what won them the game this
past week. So he's got totake everybody right to get him down.
Right, we have to be tightcoverage, and we have to as we
say, we have to cover himtwice, we got to rush twice.
You have to stay after him, right, because he's going to continue to

(15:07):
keep plays alive. That's where he'sthrived in the league of extending plays.
He's done a really good job ofthat. So we have our hands full,
and he's been a really good player. But it starts there with their
offense. So it starts with KylerMurray Sean. What will the defense have
to do to contain him? Thisis always tough. I've always felt that,

(15:28):
and a lot of times doesn't haveanything to do with the fact that
the guy. Listen, he's nota hack football player. He may have
pissed a lot of people off withhis lack of preparation and the II ME
meat stuff and people saying that hedidn't prepare and he's not a great teammate,
and that he does stuff different thaneverybody's. All those things that you
heard, But you also heard theother side. He's been an MVP candidate

(15:52):
halfway through a couple of seasons he'sbeen. He's obviously as good as I
mean when you talk about two sportathletes, he's as good as we have
in the league. He's got greatfeet, he's a former high I mean,
the guy's a dynamic player. Thefirst pick of the draft. We
know the dynamics of what he cando. Now the question is sustaining it
and all that other stuff that goeswith it we can talk about. I'm
simply talking about on the field anda week going in, what do you,

(16:15):
as a defensive coach or a player, what are you thinking guys like
this now, the toughest to defendare the best quarterbacks who make tight window
throws and make great decisions. Butin putting a game plan in during the
week, this is the hardest thingto do. The like the Josh Allens,
the Kyler Murray's, Lamar Jackson, the guys, even a big guy

(16:40):
like Herbert who can move. Thoseguys that are we call them dual threat
guys, but it can beat you. If they're not having a great game
throwing that, they can still disruptthe game with their feet. And this
dude has been doing it since highschool everywhere he's gone. He's one now
in Arizona that hasn't had And obviouslythe last playoff memory we have a Kyler

(17:03):
Murray was an embarrassing one for him, which kind of set the ball rolling.
Wonder is this our guy? Itlooked like a guy who didn't prepare
right, So with him, whenyou're putting a game plan and it's hard
to preach it, you want tosay, always be aggressive. But like
a punt return the first guy downthere, what do you have to do
when the ball's playing and you gotto b line for the guy who's quick,

(17:26):
got great first moves, you kindof got to break it down And
it's a passive aggressive approach. Doesthat make sense? Yeh? Because if
you oversprint it, you know whatthey're always going to do. Your job
is a part returning aside from securethe ball and get his positive yards first
and foremost, secure the ball, even if it's a fair catch every time
is make the first guy miss.We can't block the first guy. And

(17:47):
most of the time, what dothey do. They usually make the first
guy miss, right, unless it'scatch bang bang, Same thing here.
I know you want to meet atthe quarterback, but here's the problem.
When you sell out for it andthat guy and he's capable of making you.
He's first off, he's so lowto the ground. I don't mean
to disrespect for him being serious. You got to you know what I'm saying,
dipping your head and missing it's reallyand he's got that. He's got

(18:11):
such quick twitch around there that youthink you got him in then you don't.
And so preparing during the week, how do you prepare? What do
you put a game plan? Andhey, man, here's where he's going
to be. At least when Iplay Brady, and I'm talking about the
greatest of all time now, atleast I play and prepared for is one
thing. Stopping him as a wholeother And nobody was able to do that
for the most part for twenty plusyears. But we know where Brady's going

(18:33):
to be in the pocket, yes, right, And so I don't know
where the launch point or Murray Andeven if we do know where he's going
to be, he's not staying there. So while it can be a detriment
to your team if a quarterback's aquick bail guy before he gets to his
progressions, but it can also bea help because that guy also bail's offensive
lineman out of a missed block andyou're like, oh, thanks, dude,

(18:56):
you appreciate it. So if I'mput a game plan, how do
I game plan? Your game plan? Full all out blitz him, but
make sure you don't miss You betterbe sharp and you're tackling. I get
that, but you also the passiveaggressive approach where it's also you almost said,
I don't mean breakdown literally like youwould in a punt return coverage,
but you do have to approach himin a way that you got to keep

(19:18):
him boxed in and then attack, and you need more than one body because
he's capable of stepping out of thatstuff. These guys are the hardest to
prepare for. Now, you gointo a game, if they're having one
of those days where they become onedimensional, then you can stop that one
dimension and they're screwed or they justare so but this guy can throw it.
We know he's got a powerful arm, and he's his most dangerous when

(19:41):
when he gets to do some stuffout on the edge, because now you've
got to commit to do I stophim from the run. He's capable of
taking the ball and going sixty fiveyards on a run every single time he
has it. Yeah, he didthat last week. Put his team in
a position to kick a game whenyou feel goal right, and then he
can we listen. I can promiseyou he can throw it. He'd have
been a five tool baseball player, hit for power. A guy got an
arm, he could run. Sohe's dangerous. If the if the Great

(20:04):
Codder Murray shows up like that, and you've tried to prepare for him,
you might as well just chalk itup that we got it. We're gonna
have to do something else. He'sgonna get his How do we prevent him
from really getting his? So theseguys, and I guarantee you Dimiko knows
this. You can tell when you'regearing up for these guys. Putting a
game plan in is more maddening thanit is for Brady. When you play

(20:25):
braids like we got to hit him. Guys take the receivers off their mark
and you can't let him get inrhythm. You just can't let him stand
back there. At least with thisyou like can't let him stand back there,
but we can't let him break thepocket. So if you're a pass
rusher, discipline, lane, disciplineand being in the right place is gonna
be sometimes you can get away withit against this guy. If you miss
your lane, he's gonna find thatspot and gonna kill you with his legs.

(20:49):
And if you're too passive, aggressive, too passive, he can still
the guy can throw it. Sothe preparation going into a game like this
is as hard as it gets becauseof the you as a defensive coordinator.
You're thinking, when he's at hisbest, what do we gotta do?
And that's the game plan you putit. You don't put in a game
plan saying, well, he's notgonna play well today, so we'll put

(21:10):
this game plan you put in assumingthat condomer he's gonna be throwing it great
and running it great, now whatand making great decisions. So you're gonna
have to be very careful when you'rein that front seven two and if you're
gonna play man and pressure him andyou missed, dude, you're gonna that's
where big plays come, right inthe secondary. Oh my gosh, they
missed the tackle on the blitz. He breaks away and throws it sixty yards

(21:30):
for a touchdown. So you're gonnahave to they better tackle well behind the
line of scrimmage. It's gonna beparamount. Yeah. And also James Connor
being the running back, the leadrunning back for the Cardinal is gonna have
to stop him as well. It'sgonna be a challenge, but I think
the Texans are up for it.Mike Martz was on with our guys from
the next up show is Nan Orthhleyand Chris Gordy. What did Mike Martin

(21:51):
say about c J. Strow? Will hear that audio and discuss next right
here on Sports Talk seven ninety ThisSean Salisbury Show on Sports Talk seven.
Home for your home teams Rockets atthe Clippers tonight nine thirty tip off The

Show Heo Tani Ronald Acunya Junior namedMost Valuable Player unanimous fashion. Both of
them Ronald Kuonr in the National League, show Hey in the American League.

(22:45):
So you don't see very often bothunanimous votes. Yeah. I think it's
the first time in history that oneplayer in back to back seasons has been
unanimous both times. In show HeTani both deserved it. Ronald Lacuna deserved
he had a phenomenal season in OtaniA. You're probably going to be able
to give it Tim every year ifthat's what you want to do. Yeah,
he's kind of like Lebron He'll bein the discussion every single season.

(23:07):
Mike Martz, former head coach inthe NFL, joined our guys from next
Up that was staying orfully in ChrisGordy yesterday and he talked about CJ.
Stroud. This is what Mike Martzhad to say. He was playing like
a veteran, very disciplined, buthis delivery was extremely quick. Hadn't seen

(23:30):
that many quarterbacks get the ball outas quickly as he does. Physically,
how cool he is, how calmhe is, how courageous he is in
the pocket, you know, howmentally he gets through things very quickly.
His judgment, everything about him wasimpeccable. I was just I just you
and I did a presentation on thirtythirteen with it. I just this.
This kid's special. He just is. And he's been well coached. You

(23:52):
know, the transition is always hardfor any quarterback, but they prepared him
very well in what they do andthey get you guys open, and he's
taken in that coaching and he's he'shees did just the way they wanted to
do it. What they've done withthem is they've been fairly conservative with him
at the end of the year. Then they last two three weeks, so
they just let him play. Nowthey're throwing the ball on the field for
a second down there, and they'reletting him play the complete game. And

(24:18):
I don't I don't know that.I know they knew he was good,
but I've never seen a rookie playthis well. Uh in my time.
Yeah, it's kind of like yousaid, John, you don't remember a
time where a rookie was this good. Oh. The reason why I don't
remember it because you know you're right, No, you're but it was going

(24:38):
to validate which saying the reason whyis I don't believe we've seen it.
I've seen flashes of it from alot of rookies. We saw it from
Mayfield, saw it from Manning, saw some. We saw Aikman's tough.
I could give you a trade ofeach and every one of them. Marino's
release and what he did a yearlater was in the Super Bowl. We

(24:59):
saw it from Burl before he brokehis leg. We Mahomes was the second
year guy when he exploded on thescene. Right, we can go Brady,
you know didn't see the field. You know bled Cell was playing.
So there's you can go through atime. We saw some. Russ Wilson
was a hell of a rookie quarterback. He beat out Matt Flynn. If
you remember, as a third roundpick, Matt Flynn signed a big off
season, a big contract in theoff season with Seattle, had elbow troubles,

(25:23):
couldn't really go through training camp.Russ Wilson beat him out, and
the rest is history. So elWay had moments as a rookie, but
also got booed. I was therewatching, I mean I heard it,
watched it, so but we've neverhad These aren't just slashes. This is
this is a half a season nowhalf a season still half a season,
But we're talking about a dude who'splaying. When Mike said, and Mike's

(25:48):
a tough evaluators, I've told youbefore, and Mike back the day when
Norv has recruitted me, then herecruited my little brother. When he's at
Arizona State as a coach, there'syou know, coaching quarterbacks and stuff.
So I've talked. I've had manya conversation about my about football and a
lot of similarities. How we likeabout the ball coming out quickly and for
a guy that big, the ballis no, there's no wasted motion for
him. Ball. You can't throwit that accurately to tight windows on time

(26:11):
without the ball coming out fairly quicklyand not taking a lot of sacks for
a line that's been semi makeshift forthe most part, off and on.
Health Wise this season, you knowthey're starting to get it together and health
wise and otherwise. So I haven'tI've seen flashes of it, but the
consistency that this guy sustains and theease and what he makes it look,
it's not that easy. And whenMike said he's playing like a veteran,

(26:34):
I'll be honest with you, there'snot many veterans playing like him. He's
seeing things that veterans we expect tosee, and maybe they do. But
to go from your head, youknow, telling you ball's got to come
out what you see your eyes andyour head to your arm to get in
position to throw it and then throwit in accurately all over the field using
the entire bandwidth. We've never hada rookie consistently do it. We've seen

(26:57):
flashes. Marino was off awesome attimes You're like, oh gosh, this
guy's different. Man. We've notseen a guy who's doing his his boredom
in the pocket. And when Isay that, that means Mike calls it,
you know, calm or poise orand his gut standing in there and
holding on to the ball knowing he'sgonna get hit. His boredom meaning I'm

(27:19):
just it's gonna be okay. I'llhold this a little bit bored, hand
me a smoke of that grit, and then I'll let it rip. It's
so impressive to watch because his eyesdo not come off the target and it
allows him not to be late. Most of us mere mortals, as I've
said, are head will dip attimes, especially as a rookie like where's
the pas rush coming from? Untilyou learn that it's there's a feel thing,

(27:41):
and when you understand the prestaff stuff, it's kind of it's a lot
easier to understand where pressure may becoming from. The guy is doing there's
very well right now, there's nota weakness in his game. Now,
maybe it'll be exposed over the courseof his career where they say, well
he didn't do that as well. You could say, well, we didn't
run as well as kylu Murray.Well, guess what, Kylumary doesn't throw
like he does either, So,but he's athletic enough to steal you yards.

(28:03):
I don't know, we're going tofind out new things to say about
him in a good way at somepoint in time. But on the field,
off the field, the way hehandles, you know, his teammates,
and the way he's handling what isa very complex verbiage offense coming from
San Francisco. It's it's really impressive. And he doesn't even have the weapons

(28:23):
that he's going to have as theseguys continue to develop, what do you
think the most impressive part of hisgame is so far? Halfway through?
I think most people are going tosay the tangible and intangible stuff. Most
people are going to say, oh, the way he throws the football.
I don't know why. Now Iunderstand at the college to the NFL,
like the consistency in which he throwsthe football. You're not supposed to be

(28:47):
able to make those throws on Sunday. This easy coming out of college.
But we shouldn't be surprised. Everywherehe's been he's been able to throw.
The college throws for five hundred gameand NFL he throws for four to seventy.
I mean, the guy can throwit. That should not be it's
for me, it's twofold. It'sone how quickly he's getting to the open
guy without wasting motion or wasting Imean he's not he's he's not behind in

(29:11):
his in his processing processors of informationat every position are always going to be
better than everybody else in any job. Process it quicker, you're a head
start, You've already got a tenyard head start. Process it quicker,
and he's processing it. But forme, it's the it is the aggressiveness
accuracy that blows my mind. Imean, just on what some would say

(29:34):
that's a throwaway ball, he's findinga way to put it in windows that
are and it's not like, well, that was lucky. He was tipped
by a guy in landing in ourguy's hands. It's not like that.
He's thrown balls is like if youdon't expect football, you're gonna get hit
in the face. His consistency onaggressive throws and his ability to overcome bad
plays is uncanny. I can't teachthat man. Neither can Mike Martz,

(30:00):
Neither can Demico Ryans, neither canBobby Slowick. There are certain things that
CJ. Stroud's doing that when youwalk in the room, say listen,
I can teach you these twenty things. I can't teach you that. And
the fact that as a rookie, his focus on him, he knows what
his day job is and he's notbehind on the mental aspect of it,
and emotionally a bad play is notaffecting him, which to me is another

(30:22):
thing that you've got to be ableto get over those fast, and most
guys don't, and successful ones do. His sustained success and on aggressiveness is
friggin stupid good. Yeah, Ithink the most impressive part for me is
his decisiveness and getting the football out. We always talk about the really good

(30:45):
quarterbacks in this league and their decisivenessand getting the football out like Tom Brady
obviously was one of them. JoeBurrow when he steps up into the pocket
and he lets it rip, andwe've seen that from CJ. Shrout,
but also we've seen him create playsby leaving the pocket using his feet and
then throwing the ball on target.Like, I don't know, how do
you develop that? Like or isthat just a DNA thing? Like you

(31:08):
just have it? Well, Ithink there's most of the stuff you'd like
to think is practice, but there'sjust stuff off that. That's when I
say the six to eight plays agame, which I don't know what you're
gonna do with the ball. Ican't teach it, right. I always
say that. I say it's notthe It's like when you say you got
you got the people that love you, the people that hey, it's the
ones in the middle you got toconvince, right, no matter what,

(31:29):
it's the same thing here. Ithe ability to do sex six or eight
times a game. When you say, dude, you're going to be scrambling
to your left, somebody gon forceyou there. It's third and seven you
can run for six and we canpossibly go forward to punt. Yep,
you can make a throw off, balance, throw back and throw You've already

(31:51):
we've already been disrupted. Now you'regonna take one bad thing and turn it
into two. All those things thatyou try to teach from. But there's
about six to eight plays a gamewhere you say there's not much, there's
not much I can do. Whatdo you? That comes down to your
DNA? What are you gonna dowith it? And right now that's the
stuff that you're talking about. Youcan't teach I I It's just the guy
is a phenomenal, phenomenal processor ofinformation and thrower from his head to when

(32:15):
the ball comes out, you seeit and pull it if you see it,
and pump your shotgun twice. LikeI've said before, you're late at
the bird. It's the same thinghere, he sees it. He's loaded,
ready to go, and to beable to get it decision up out
accurate on time. Where a lotthere was a young player. You think,
I see it? Do I pullit? Oh? Pull late?

(32:37):
Oh man? You miss the bird. Now it's see it boom, It's
simultaneous. It's bang bang like aplay at first base, and then sometimes
that you think it's a desperate inaccuratefor some guys like I just got it
out because I'm supposed to throw ontime. But his is a dig route,
catching the guy over the middle, letting him run after the catch,
a sail route at twenty two yards, like tell Tank Dell's two weeks ago,
the bang posts that he hit bylooking off the safety. He's doing

(33:00):
stuff. Then when you walk in, if you'd have told anybody that was
drafting him the thirty two front officesaid here's how he's gonna play. Of
course they'd all wanted him, Butif you'd have told the Texans this is
how he's gonna play the first foryou, this how it's gonna be,
you would have said to yourself, then in three years we're gonna be winning
divisions with a chance to get toa super Bowl. Yeah, it's been
impressed. Qualities he's got. Yeah, it's been a press impressive so far.

(33:22):
Let's look at the defense for theHouston Texans. Jonathan Gernard and Will
Anderson Junior. How are they gonnastack up against the run and Kyler Murray.
Let's talk about it next on SportsTalk seven ninety. More Sean Salisbury
on Sports Talk seven ninety where Astrosand Rockets play and Real Texans talk.

I have football show. He atany Ronald Acuna Junior, your most valuable

(34:59):
think this is a bat? Thisone? Hell yes, exactly, no
question, unequivocally banger on a funkyFriday. You gotta there's nothing like a
good banger. There really isn't.There's not. It really isn't. No,
there's there's definitely not. What's todayfunky Friday? Okay? Gotcha?

(35:22):
Yeah? Mmmm? Light out tothe phone lines. Maybe I am seven,
one, three, five seven.Let's go to uh Andy First,
Andy, Good morning. You guysare nuts, by the way, uh
hey son, you really don't wantyour guys to get to the quarterback when

(35:44):
it's someone like Murray. You wantthat, like you said, you want
that cup, you want the earshape, you want bull rushes. The
best thing is to get them linemangoing back toward him because of his height.
Oh yeah, well you will. You want you collapse the pockets so
he doesn't this so it's not ait's it's not a visual picture. Yeah,
you want to close out lanes becauseguys his eyes have to throw through

(36:05):
lanes. They don't throw over people. So that's exactly right. And and
it's almost like you get to himand form a circle and say, we
dare you to break the you know, break our grip. That's you can't
over pursue a guy like this orhe'll kill you. Yeah, you can't
have you can't have your defsive endsdoing outside rushes because that opens up the
lane on the end side of thetackle. You just you gotta, you

(36:28):
gotta bull rush and straight up.Actually, three four defenses is best for
a running quarterback. You also haveto defend. You have to be you
have to be so disciplined. It'sthe the temptation with this is to I'm
going to dip inside from the outsideguy and leave my outside arm, take
that outside arm free to keep himwhere I need to and then all of

(36:51):
a sudden, he pumps, hegives you a little dip inside and then
breaks contained. You got to makesure he can't break containing. You've got
to have that inside lane discipline thatyou're talking about. Have to. That's
right. And and you know,I'm drive for a living, So I
listened to all kinds of sports radioall day long. I have not heard
nobody bring up the embarrassing block attemptby Larry Tunzel when that defensive end plummeted

(37:21):
our quarterback. You know what I'mtalking about, right, I know the
play you're talking about. Yeah,And they showed the replay and he tried
to cut him. It was theworst attempt at a block that I've ever
seen. You're talking and I missedhim right, Oh it was. I
mean you saw how slow CJ gotup he I mean that could have been

(37:46):
an ending season injury. I mean, what what happens with that? Come
film study? Does the coach pullhim aside and say, what the hell
is that? No, you sitthere and turn it on against with your
teammates sitting next to you. Usuallyyou don't watch the entire film together as
a group now, so it goestwofold one time. If you play a

(38:09):
bad game, get your ass kicked. Sometimes coach wants to send a message
if it looked like it was alazy game and guys weren't given what they
the effort that they wanted, they'llput it in front of the offense and
defense the whole team and play it, and or they'll pick out twenty five
plays and say, does this looklike how we're supposed to play? And
it's a It's far worse that waythan it is for the in front of

(38:31):
the fans, because now you're lettingyour teammate down. And then but most
of the time what you do isyou break up into offense, defense,
and then you break up into individualmeets. And the other side is when
you have a great game, coachwill put up like fifteen plays and say,
look at the great special team, because everybody's pumped up after a win.
But normally you go in coach willtalk about it break up into offense

(38:52):
defense. Then that coordinator talks aboutthe overall game, and then you break
up into individuals. So I'm assumingwhat happened with that one in any other
one for the most part, andthen the offensive line sit in a room,
tied in, sit in their room, running backs in their room,
quarterbacks and their room, receivers intheir room, and you break it down
by your position, and yes, you'll go in there. There's plenty of

(39:13):
times when every single one of ushas walked out of that meeting like,
oh, good gracious boy, whathow did I embarrass myself? I can't
believe I missed? Or a guywho's you know, lagging on the backside
and you see it and your coachwill say, do you realize as a
wide receiver you may get this football, we got to run full speed?
Or as a quarterback, what wereyou looking at? You let or why'd

(39:34):
you bail out of this pocket? This offen. That's the worst for me.
When you got an offensive line thatforms a great pocket and they're kicking
ass and you bail out because someguy flashes six yards away from you,
and then you run into a sackand you're looking there and you're like,
oh my gosh, now I gotto go out in the locker room and
apologize to the fellas for they did. They're busting their ass for me getting
beat up on, and I'm bailingout of a clean pocket cowardice. And

(39:59):
that's how you feel. So yeah, and you pointed there, there's nothing
worse, nothing then happen to faceyour teammates, especially if you were a
turd that day, you know whatI mean that day when you really kind
of just lollygagged around and and youdidn't do your thing mentally, you were
ill prepared. You do you feelit's like, oh gosh, now I
got to go face the fellas. That's the worst, far worse than the

(40:21):
media or the fans. Yeah,he's right, man, it's awful.
Tird man, I haven't heard thatin the years. It is. And
then you know what we're talking about. Amate we've all played like one.
Yeah, and you never want tobe the guy that somebody like, you
know, those guys you'll see onthe fill in a game when a guy's
going down and a guy will runaway from a tackle while it's during the
game and you don't know, youknow what, It never never goes away,

(40:43):
dude, it doesn't in the film, doesn't hide it. It's right
there and it's like a neon lightflashy. And then that's the one where
when a guys start to cover theirmouth or nobody says anything. Now there's
one when you win by thirty andall of a sudden you saw big Trent
Williams come out and buries you thesame The feller's like, oh yeah,
and you're like, you're embarrassed, but you're like, what do you deal

(41:05):
with the three hundred fie? Whatdo you want me to do? Right?
And you what to do? Butwhen you win, like a back's
coming at you or something, andyou and you give them that arm tackle
with your head down like you don'twant to hit him, and and the
room's silent. Yeah that and nobody'sjoking. When they're not joking about it,
that's when you're like, yeah,oh my gosh, they got him

(41:25):
right, So you don't want that. But the worst thing, you know,
this, when you're not doing whatyou need to do and you let
your teammates down. There's nothing worse. And we've all done it. Yeah,
a mistake or something. I liketo hope it's not forever, but
a mistake where you're like, butat that moment, in that moment,
like when you know your teammates arepissed off and upset with you and disappointed,
like you feel like that moment's gonnalast forever, no doubt about it.

(41:46):
And like from quarterbacks like why didI leave this pocket? It's almost
because then it blatantly tells you, dude, where's your head? Yeah?
Why why do you see it?Guy? Flash six yards in front of
you. That's a perfect pocket. What are you doing? Yeah? And
then you walk at you like fellasman, you know that's not me,
right, And and then you gotto go out there and then stand in
and take twenty five shots to thechin to prove to them that I'm not

(42:07):
going to bail on you. It'sit's a fragile personality game, brother,
it is. I know you watchedthe game last night because you notice how
many injuries there were Thursday night football. But they'll tell you that they care
about your safety. They just gotdone playing on Sunday. So I want
to talk about Thursday night football becausesome big names got hurt last night.
Whether it's a big name small name, doesn't matter. Injuries or injuries Cincinnati's

Friday anymore. You don't know why. Why Because it's like Black Friday's festal
has already started. So it's likeblack Black Wednesday on November eighth. Okay,
I mean it's like it's like themonth long. Now. It's not
like you'd stay up to say,but grab me some coffee. If you
haven't experienced a mall or something ona Black Friday, just do it once

(53:37):
with a bunch of people. Yes, because if all hell breaks so you've
got a team to fight with you. But you just I may walk around
at two in the morning. Yougotta do once. You have to with
with and people watch and just checkit out. I'm not believing. I'm
not going to sprint and tackle youto the forty inch flat screen? What's
the video? What's the store Walmart? No? Uh no, then it

(54:00):
specializes in its Yeah, I'm notgoing to sprint and tackle you around the
waist or tomahawked the back of yourneck with a forearm, shivered and beat
you to the sixty It's l CD TV. Okay, but I mean,
you know, if you beat me, you could have it. That's
okay, I'm good, but Iwill stroll in and you got to do
it once, and you got toget and you got to have like hot

(54:22):
cookies where you're walking around the mall, one of those little cooks and that
pretzel that you can smell right andright. Yeah, then you do with
like coffee with the little Bailey's init. That's my stock. Yeah,
there we go. You're talking mylanguage now. But sometimes now it gets
dark too soon. It's like thenight before I'm talking about you know,
thanks to it's five. I don'twant to go to bed at five,

(54:43):
but I find myself looking min it'smidnight. No, it's four forty five.
You dumb ass, I started. My dogs are even like Kilo's on
the bed. It's like one hundredpounds bullies staring down the hallway like you
guys ready, I've I've noticed it'sit's four four I've noticed that. When
it comes to uh, daylight saving, it was like, this is the

(55:04):
worst one we've I mean when Isay worst, the earliest, I swear
man like, like the the weekafter, right that following week after Daylight
Savings, I could have sworn thatMonday it got dark literally at like four
forty five, and I was like, what the hell is like, damn
this guy early? Like I knowit usually gets dark around like five fifteen,
five thirty, but I could haveswore, can we stop the can
we honestly stop? Actually, Iwas the same thing last night, was

(55:25):
eating I'm looking outside, so I'mgonna un i gotta do a few things
in my yard and walk outside.Got to turn the lights on. It's
like five fifteen. You like toget the Chris fired up. Anyway,
they're already on. Those are plugand they're on when I leave in the
morning. Yeah, because we're readyto go. It's dark like two thirty
in the morning, right so I'ma with the black frindy thing. You
got to experience it once, likegoing to it. If you love it,
you love it, but yeah, longer, but you'd sprint to the

(55:46):
deals right now. It's like, okay, well I could have got the
deal four days. Yeah. Wegot our first computer back when I was
uh, let's see two thousand andone. Yeah, two thousand, two,
two thousand or two thousand one.I camera when it was we got
a gateway of the big Box withthe cowprint. Absolutely, and I didn't
get the gateway. It wasn't alaptop. It was a desktop, correct,
gateway two thousand is what it was. Yeah, So me and my

(56:08):
sisters camped out at a Walmart atlike two o'clock in the morning. Didn't
the store didn't open up until four, and it was I mean the line
was around the building. We finallygot in. They were hanging out tickets.
That's how you got a computer.I got the last one. And
a an older woman like I'm talkinglike probably in her fifties literally tried two

(56:30):
women in her fifties literally literally tried. Well. I was like eight,
no, no, I was likeeleven. That's an older woman. Yeah,
that is I mean, like anolder one. Now, man,
don't catch me, catch me Tommybe'es on a Thursday anyway, try to
whoop my ass. She literally triedto yank the damn thing from me.
Well, come to find out,my sisters had already gotten the computer.

(56:52):
Just you know, we divide andthat's okay. Honestly one of the coolest
experiences. And that's why I liketo go out on Black Friday now because
it reminds me of my family andall the things that we used to do
on Black Friday. Get you inthe spirit and even though you know you're
going out to a crowd, andI'm with you. But here's what I
won't do. I'm not going tofight over it now as an adult,
right, you're not gonna fight.I don't think anybody's being you over anything.

(57:14):
No, not me. I'm justI'm not going to fight, meaning
not leaving literally, it's I'm justthere to stay calm and relax, but
be in the moment. And truthis, if you said, Sean,
you're gonna save I know saving isimportant, say fifty bucks on that seventy
ch TV. Here's other than that, I'd rather you can keep the fifty
bucks of anxiety. I'll go twodays after, yeah, and I'll just

(57:37):
get it then and I'll I won'teat out like next week. So the
fifty bucks that I lost for me, now, I'm go and get drink.
I just eat it there. YouGod, I robbed Peter and I'll
save Paul. You. I'll payPaul robbed Peter, I'll pay Paul.
So yeah, but I think you'vegot experience it on. It's just for
the people watch, but I dolike to kind of kicks off. I
feel like I'm in the spirit, even though it's at times chaotic around you.
Yeah, it doesn't bother me becauseI don't get caught up in all.

(57:59):
They did flight in the second baseto grab a phone before anybody else.
Nuts man. They did the holidaylighting of the big tree over at
the Woodlands last night. That placewas packed. Oh yeah, go to
practice and it was not too coldout. Yeah, you still get a
little hoodie on. You're good togo. I love this type of see.
Yeah, yeah, me too. It's crazy Black Friday a week away.
Thanksgiving next Thursday. Let's get tothe steak out next right here,

(58:22):
excuse me, right here on theShawn Salisbury Show. This is Sports Talk
seven ninety, home of the Rockets, Mastros and the best line up in
Houston Sports. Now back to SeanSalisbury. All right, Sean, what
are you hearing out there now?The Salisbury Stakouts, Salsbury takeout on the

(58:46):
Sean Salisbury Show. It's time forthe steakout right here on the Shawn Salisbury
Show. Sean, Bryan and Tripleywith you this morning. Before we get
to my steakout question, I've beenwaiting for a while on hold Tom,
Thanks for holding man. Good morning, Good morning. I hope you guys

(59:06):
are doing well, because you're soundinggreat. I can almost smell that bourbon
candle and taste those presidents. Damnright, my man, Let's go.
I'm with you now about let's goSunday. I'm going to the game.
I was lucky enough to get twotickets from a buddy, and you know,
Sean, I don't want to putthe court up before the horse.

(59:27):
But it's a young team and theygot a lot to prove, and I
see a lot of great things. But I look at this game Sunday as
a playoff game for them. They'recoming off a big win against a team
that you know could go to thesuper Bowl, and certainly they could be
faith in the Bengals again in theplayoffs. But you come home, you
got to stomp the dirty bird, and you cannot lose this game. I

(59:51):
think they learned how to win agame Sunday. I'm hoping they're not learning
how to lose one this Sunday.I do not want to see them go
down. I'm looking really at thisgame as it's growing into a winning team.
If we think they were anywhere neara hair's breadth of a seven and
two records, six and four wouldlook an awful lot like seven and teens.

(01:00:15):
What do you think it is?Tom? I am with you one
hundred percent. These are the andpeople have heard me say it at nauseum.
Say it again. You've got abirdie the par fives to win a
PGA tournament. You can't. Youcan't par or bogee par fives. You'll
never win par of the par threesthat you know, par threes are tough.

(01:00:37):
Part of the par three. Yougot a birdie the par fives,
and every now and then you gotto make an eagle like they did last
week against the hottest offense in football, the Cincinnati Bengals, and they did.
Now you come home, and mybiggest thing is how do you handle
success? They handled failure fine. They got beat by a team that shouldn't
beat him in Carolina, and thenthey came and of unbelievable comeback win at

(01:00:58):
home and then go into another person'sbuilding that is supposed to be a Super
Bowl contender, as you said, and beat them and did their thing.
So for me handling success, everybodyalways talks about adversity. How do you
handle success when everybody's telling you howgreat you are? Now that's two in
a row. Keat Now this istheir biggest Can they handle success? Because
they beat Joe Burrow in his ownbuilding and our quarterback here, as a

(01:01:20):
rookie, outplayed him. That's abig thing. And it's more than just
a quarterback. You're gonna have toplay a lot of good football this week
as well. But now we're atthis, you're playing a team you're supposed
to beat. This is a abouta five hundred and ten yard par five,
easily reachable in two for a goodgolfer, and all you got to
do is just make two putts campthree putt from eight feet so you're exactly

(01:01:44):
right, and I think you.I mean, if you're not treating this
like the first round of a playoffsto advance or the last game of the
season to get in, you're makinga grave mistake. And I think they
will handle success. Birdy the parfive. So they birdy this hole.
Then next week you got to parthat one. I mean, they're going
to be in a hell of theone. It's hard to beat a team
twice in a year, same year, meaning Jacksonville. They got a good

(01:02:06):
quarterback. They were embarrassed last week. So yeah, you got to birdy
this one. You're supposed to winthis. This is a reachable par five,
easy and two putt and get out, and they have to do that
this week. You are one hundredpercent correct, all right? For the
stakeout question. Christa Thompson. Haveyou heard the audio yet? I have
not. She's a I've worked withher at Fox for a few minutes doing

(01:02:27):
some stuff and she is a greatperson and done doing a great job on
her Thursday night shows. I didnot hear this. I don't know what
you mean. She a great personthough, well, I want I want
to talk about she was very kindand to me and of people around her
in a work environment. She wasan awesome person. I didn't the reason
why I stated that. I imagineyou were playing this either one because they

(01:02:50):
were praising CJ. Strouder too, because she said something that was she shouldn't
have said, So that part Idon't have to hear this. I may
say, hey, one, that'swhat I was going to say. She
could still be a good person ifshe said something silly, so stupid.
Carissa Thompson obviously a sideline reporter anda television host, sportscaster. She's worked
with Fox Sports, ESPN, BigTen Networks. She's been doing it since
two thousand and six. She doesa pre and post game for the the

(01:03:13):
Amazon stuff. Right, this isCarrissa Thompson talking about doing some things with
sideline reporting and the stories from coachesand things like that. This is what
CHRISA. Thompson had to say thisbefore. So I haven't been fired for
saying it, but I'll say itagain. I would make up the report
sometimes because a the coach wouldn't comeout at halftime or it was too late,

(01:03:35):
and I was like, I didn'twant to screw up the report,
So I was like I'm just goingto make this up because, first of
all, no coach is going toget mad if I say, hey,
we need to stop hurting ourselves. We needed to be better on third down,
we need to stop turning the ballover quarter back. Yeah, exactly,
and do a better job of gettingoff the field. Like they're not
going to correct me on that.I'm like, it's fine, I'll just
make up the report. It wouldbe very funny if you were like,

(01:03:57):
yeah, So I just spoke withArthur Smith at halftime and he said Jon
Robinson blue smoke in his faith. So she said this on a podcast,
and I mean, you talk aboutsome of the biggest names in sideline reporting
and sports casting. Molly McGrath, what is it, Tafoya, Michelle Tafoya,
I mean Tracy Wolfson. I meanyou named the biggest ones out there

(01:04:19):
and then the ones that are tryingto make a name for themselves. And
this is a position that we knowthat is man mainly manned by women,
and they do a fantastic That jobis not easy. I've done I know
you have, right. I didsideline reporting for small college and for high
school playoffs here in the city. It's not easy. And you have to

(01:04:39):
be on your stuff to find coaches, to hear things, to get it
back up to your guys in thebooth. Listen. One of the greatest
things I learned I got Mike Taricoand Mike Adamley, who was former running
back who used to do the NBC. You'll know people in the past know
who Mike Ademley was. When Iwent to my college football meetings and I'd
never done sideline reporting before, andI'm degree in broadcast journalism, but when

(01:05:00):
the red light goes on in areal game, You're like, this is
different. And Mike Tarico sat downwith me at the college football meetings.
I never met him before. Isaid, give me some ideas. He
said, here, listen, andso you went through it. And I
can remember the very first game Idid was North Carolina State at Syracuse,
like thirty four to thirty one.North Carolina State upset them, Donovan McNabb's

(01:05:21):
team in that building, and I'llnever forget. I mean, they came
down to me like twenty times inthe game, so you better be prepared.
And Mike made a good point, you got to tell me a minute
worth of information in fifteen seconds andjust make sure you get it back up
to us before the next play starts. So that's how I learned some of
the greatest things about urgency and gettingin and out and being precise and dynamic

(01:05:43):
with a sideline report that I tookvery serious. It was important to me.
I learned so much that year tohelp me when I was sitting on
the set as an analyst right orcalling games, when I was in the
booth and being an analyst, agame analyst, and a studio analyst and
doing sports and all those things onlive television. To brains, listen,
this does not make Chrissa Thompson abad person. She's a good person.

(01:06:04):
It makes her what a dumb assthing to say and do. It just
is because one is now and listenthese these and you're exactly right now,
Tom Rinaldi's down. And we gotsome really good sideline reporters that are men
as well. But you are exactlyright. The majority of women on the
sideline, the sideline reporters are female. They are. And I've worked with

(01:06:28):
Tracy Wolfson and Aaron Andrews and they'refrigging samn good and damn prepared at their
job. Aaron Andrews was on thispodcast. Her and Chrissa Thompson have done
stuff together, and Aaron Andrews admitsthat she did the same thing. See
and I'm going to tell you seesometimes on a podcast, you know what,
people think, nobody's listening. Yougot a million may go back and
listen. Can you imagine Joe Rogansaying nobody's listening And I didn't think anybody's

(01:06:51):
know they're listening. And Chrissa Thompson'ssmart, Aaron Andrews is smart, Melissa
Stark is smart. Tracy Wolfson's beena sea. Tracy Wolfson's as much a
fixture as Tony Romeo and Jim nantzarIt. See, I'm you know this.
This feels like the crew has beena three that crew together for a
long time. It's a hard job. Here's what it does, though,
It diminishes the sideline reporter if thisfor their information doesn't matter. And we

(01:07:14):
wonder why sideline reporters at times arenot taken serious. You know, we
first off, if you want tosay, hey, couldn't get to the
coach, but here's what I saw, And I don't mind you being a
third voice if that's what you've beenwatching because I always told when I got
the sideline job, my first jobat ESPN, I said one thing,
I'm not interviewing mascots. I justwon't any laugh to say, Sean,

(01:07:35):
you don't have to interview the bulldogat Georgia, Okay, But I wanted
to be a third voice down thereand to do it. But it is,
this is so, it's so itshrinks the sideline reporter because now you
know what I'm going to say everytime it to me. This is when
she said, I didn't get firedfor saying it the first time. I
probably I'll say it again. Idon't know how we don't take this serious.

(01:07:57):
So now whenever I hear information fromher, you know, my first
thought is she couldn't get to thecoach, so she just saying it.
And people who are busting their assthat are killing it, like you said,
Molly and Jenny, all the onesthat are killing on the sidelines,
You're like, is it true.I'm going to tell you what. There
could be no more shrinking derogatory whenit comes to the journalism side of it,

(01:08:24):
because that is journalism. You're tellingme what somebody said to fake it
with information. If I was acoach, I'd say, where'd you get
that information? I didn't tell youthat. Now you're not going to say
it out loud. But now it'slike, if you're a coach and you
heard this, aren't you saying cometo me or go back up to the
boose that I didn't get any informationyou didn't want to talk. I'd rather
have you told me that he didnot want to talk. It looks to

(01:08:45):
me like they're struggling running the footballdown here. Imagine that's going to be
or go get it, go getthe wide receiver, coach whatever. Yeah,
So if you're admitting that and youwonder why people have trouble advancing in
the business, you just you justheed in the face of the people that
you're and told them it's raining. Now, how do you try? How
do I take any of them serious? And it's unfair because you shouldn't put

(01:09:06):
the umbrella on all of them. It's those two who said it, and
they're both really good people. Badmistake, stupid comments. Why why marble
journalists? Why admit that that's whatI'm saying? Why? Because I understand
if you say, hey, backin when I was sixteen, i'd smoked
a cigarette. I'm out of smoking. You did what? Or I tried
drugs? Somebody I smoked a jointwhen I was eighteen. It's forty years

(01:09:30):
ago, but you're living that. You're still in it if you want to
tell me that in your book thirtyyears from now and when you and you're
saying, you know what I made. I made a mistake. I shouldn't
have done this. And I saidthis on a I get it. You're
a host of the Mate of theThursday night games pre and post game.
I'm supposed to take you serious.I just don't know. It's sad because
I know how hard they've worked intheir career to get to their point.

(01:09:51):
But by faking it to me,that is heinous to the sideline reporters business,
and they provide good information. IfI was them, I'd be pissed
if I was one of those sideof the reports because I know I worked
at my job. I feel badfor like the local reporters, the local
sideline men or women that are bothjust trying to bust their ass, just

(01:10:12):
hoping someone notices them so they canget to the next level. And then
you hear this from one that's stilldoing it. That's working on Thursday night
football. Most sidelined. Most somejust like doing it and that's what they
want to do forever. Most sidelinereporters have aspirations to do other things in
the business. Ye host a documentary, go on to be a host of
a show, host a game show, be a studio analyst like we see

(01:10:33):
on you all of that, andthen maybe still do side of side Listen.
It's an important job. You getsome good information if you get the
right stuff. But to do thatand injury reports, if you're the Tracy
Wolfson's the world and I worked withit, I'm telling you, dude,
working their ass off to get informationto me, you might as well have
just gone up and taken a sledgehammerto their face. Yeah, because it's

(01:10:56):
like, what, why would youadmit something like that? It diminishes your
if you want a dog yourself, but now you're diminishing your friends, and
you're shrinking those people who work sohard. Carissa and Aaron Anders are both
better than that. Yeah, ridiculous. Speaking of Thursday night football, is
Thursday night football good for the NFL? Let's talk about it on the Sean
Salisbury Show. Let's also talk aboutSpindle Tap. I'm just gonna I can
do everything you want to tell youabout. The beer's awesome, the food's

(01:11:18):
off the charts when you get evennow unless there's a big gig going on
or something, you know, somebody'srented out the three hundred plus. We
got room for three hundred plus atSpindle Tap Brewery just outside the Loop.
Number one tap rooms voted in thecountry. So when you think about Spindle
Tap, you go to spindle tapdot com. Look at the five new
beers that have just been released. They got the great seltzers and whether it's

(01:11:38):
an IPA or whether it's a darkbeer or light beer. Their light beer's
off the charts, phenomenal, phenomenal. And their food Taco Tuesday, Steak
Night on Wednesday, last night,Burgers all night, and then Friday the
wood fried pizza Friday, Saturday,Sunday, and it's delicious. So they
take that serious. But they alsomake sure that a three acre facility has
what you want for your party, your holiday party. Go book it,

(01:11:59):
Go book it. They can entertainit, whether it's part venue, full
venue. You're gonna love Spindle Tap. I brag about it all over the
place, and I can't wait tillI got some big plans. The Spindle
Tap hopefully does it. But myman, Brody Chapman, I some big
plans to let you guys know whyyou need to go there and all the
things that are happening. Go checkout spindle Tap dot com. The new
beers try it. Let's party andlet's do it right. And it starts

(01:12:20):
at spindle Tap Beer Food. Awesomecustomer service, even better, spindle Tap
Brewery, Spindle Tap Beer, spindleTap dot Com. The Shawn Salisbury Show
continues on seven ninety and continues inyour home. Say Alexa, play Sports
Talk seven ninety on iHeartRadio. Yeahwhat you said in your top Yeah,

(01:13:01):
that stuff you don't want to Theintegrity of sideline reporting gets kicked in the
tip with that, as I don'tknow why you would do that. I'm
still baffled by the I think, like I said, they're both good people,
man, they really are. Ithink what people don't understand they might
understand it, but probably not likehow hard that sideline reporting job is.

(01:13:21):
They're not just and again a goodmajority of them are women. They're not
just a pretty face on the sideline. You have to walk and run up
and down the sideline. You've gotto get information. You got to watch
out from getting your ass knocked downby grown ass men coming at you.
You have to be on top ofyour stuff. You gotta take notes,
You got to prepare, you gotto do everything. Look how good Holly

(01:13:41):
row is. She prepares your assoff. Oh yeah, for that job.
It's everything. I mean she andI know a lot of those people
really because Aaron and Chrissa Thompson havebeen like some part of the road paving
for fit and to get from Sidelinesto hosting podcast to being quite doing national
commercials really good, I mean greatgigs, and Sidelines was a big reason

(01:14:05):
why they got the next gig andgot the next gig. Right. That
that's that's what you that, that'swhat happens, right, And you don't
want to you don't want to damagethe integrity that when most of them do
the majority of them are doing theirjob. I can't fathom turning on the
mic and telling me going on andtelling somebody something that nobody actually told me

(01:14:26):
and saying that they did making upis what they said, right, making
up the information? Yeah? Yeah, that to me is I don't understand
the thought process on it. Idon't. I don't get Look if if
you don't have the opportunity to talkto a coach and you feel the need
that you need to embellish a littlebit, and that's what you're gonna do,

(01:14:49):
okay, But why would you admitthat on a podcast when we know
how relevant and popular podcasts or justa clip from a podcast become Oh see,
I don't. I don't think it'sokay to embellish and say you talk
to somebody when you didn't. I'mI'm I don't think that's okay. Yeah,
I don't. If you and you'reright, if you did, why

(01:15:10):
would you tell the world because whatyou're doing, forget, even if you
don't care about how people feel aboutwhat you what about Because I'm telling you,
the majority of the people that theylike Aaron and I'm talking about sideliners,
they know what Aaron and Chris Thompsonhave done to get to the opportunity
and work so hard to get tothat opportunity. Now they're going to sit
back and say, well, thatwas my there's there are young sideline reporters

(01:15:31):
that are looking at chrisa Thompson andAaron Anderson. I want to be like
them, the honest to get becausethey've there were some road papers. Man,
they've been great and and they havedone a lot of phenomenal work.
But this you don't want to openthat can of worms. But now I
don't think it's okay as a journalist. Now we're entertainers. We can have

(01:15:53):
fun. We laugh like, oh, man, that guy hits at six
hundred feet when it's the three hundredand eighty foot home run. That that
part I get. But I can'tlook at you and say, hey,
Brian told me yesterday that he thoughtand we made joking. I remember I
said, you hate old older peoplejoking that. But I'm no matter in
this and Hi, let's go down. Well, I talked to coach.
Coach wasn't one hundred feet within Younever talked to him? See to me,

(01:16:14):
that's that that's a that's damaging toyour integrity and reputation as a journalist
because sideline reporters are reporting facts. That that is journalism that's not entertainment right
now can turn into entertainment when youknow the the like I said, when
when you are standing next to alike on college game day when you're having
fun with the mascot and joking around, but when you're giving me a report

(01:16:38):
on an injury or what a coach'sfeelings are after the first half, and
you made it up and then youadmit it and to shrink all your other
sideline reporters are working their ass off. Nah man, I'm sorry. And
having been one of those, no, not this cat okay, And most
of them that I've been around didtheir job and did it right. And
I know Aaron and Chris I havemany times to most of the time they

(01:17:00):
see them do it always they're good. But this, yeah, yeah,
bad, idea really bad. Let'sget out to the phone line seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. Let's start with John, John,
what's going on? Hey, guys, thanks for letting me in. Yeah,
I just want to comment on thatwith Clarissa. When I heard that
interview, I was just absolutely flooredbecause basically she's admitting she's a liar,

(01:17:23):
and and uh, you know whensomebody when you know that, when you
get that reputation and somebody even admitsit, how are you going to believe
them? And the problem is whenyou talk to a coach. Now the
coach is going to say, well, is she going to report it accurately?
So, you know, I thinkthat was very damaging. I think
that's a fireable offense. Yeah,certainly, Yeah, I think I think

(01:17:45):
it's that John and I And italso, like we've said, you know,
the last segment, like it putsa bad stain on every other sideline
reporter. And John think about this. To think about this, John,
she hosts a Amazon's that's a lotof money that they put into I just
saw yesterday she was doing an interviewor two days ago, and she said,
you know, the great thing aboutAmazon is they allow us on our

(01:18:09):
pre and postgame show to be whowe want to be, to be who
we are. Man, how's thatfor timing? And John and and like
you're on the set and you're talkingto you know, your your your guys,
and you're you're going through the pregameshow and so when she teases you
up or she comes back and tagsit with and gives her opinion and she
says, yeah, I talked toSean McVay before the game and he are

(01:18:31):
we supposed to say? No,you didn't see I don't want to feel
that way because I like her asa person. I do, and I
know she's good at her job.But now you're going to question anything that
rolls out of her mouth, andthat's not And now you're also going to
question, uh this Holly row whichyou shouldn't because Holly Rowe is a journalist
that kicks ass or you're gonna questionand it's like you're gonna wait a minute,

(01:18:56):
No, no, no, no, don't don't put us all under
that umbrella. I actually talked tothe coach, but our thought is going
to be guilt by association. Allsideline reporters are the same, and that's
not fair. It's not fair tothem. If you don't care what we
think about you, it's one thing, but sure as hell don't. Just
don't shrink your teammate. So whenwhen and remember now, Chris on Sunday,
she gets when they when when whenthe fox guys throwing it? Let's

(01:19:18):
go to Chrissa Thompson a studio witha highlight and she throws it back to
Kevin Harlan or whoever they it's Harlanright, yeah, not for no,
he's CBS. Yeah. It throwsit back to Jim nts, Jim nets
Fox, what's his name, Kevinber He throws it back to Kevin Burkhart.
Are they supposed to joke with herand say, well are you is

(01:19:40):
that true? Did that really happen? Carissa? Did that that highlight really
happen? I mean, it justit opens up a can of worms that
is is not good for the business. Yeah, no, I agree.
I mean she's got that you know, you know, she's got that reputation
now, So when when you knowsomebody is a liar and admits it,
I mean, how do you getthat back? I mean you you have

(01:20:02):
to really work really hard at it. But but but it's hard. I
mean, you know, because uhnow she's going to have that rep you
just can't believe what she says, and it's just hard to recover from that.
It is just John greg I meanthe media. Yeah, yeah,
g John, you know what itis. You spent a whole life in
the business, a whole life inthe business, you show a whole life

(01:20:25):
trying to build a reputation of respectand integrity and in one fell swoop now
we can now and gaining that respectand that in thing it is hard to
get losing it as you heard takesa podcast just like that. Uh,
let's get Terrence got thirty seconds foryou. What's up? Hey? Uh,
y'all kind of stole my thunder, but that that Chrisa just kind of

(01:20:46):
threw herself under the bus. Buty'all, we're talking about how hard it
is with sideline reporting. And uh, I watched that Netflix Cup with the
golfers, and you could tell ifyou go watch it, the lack of
preparedness that the truck has. Thesideline reporters. You have Marshall Lynch,
who's a golden treasure by the way, I think he's hilarious. But if
you go watch it, you cansee the whole time they don't have the

(01:21:09):
audio right, the sideline people aren't, you know, on time and everything,
so you could really get a graspof how hard it actually is.
And that's all I got. Thankyou, Terrence. It's not an It's
not an easy job, man,it is not an easy job. Let's
continue to talk about the NFL,and we're finally going to get to his

Texans and Cardinals noon kickoff at EnergyStadium Thursday Night Football. Last night,

(01:24:00):
the Ravens beat the Bengals. Alot of injuries in that game. Some
of the big names. Joe Burrowleft with a wrist injury. Mark Andrews
looks like he's going to be outfor the rest of the season with an
ankle injury and again these Thursday nightgames, it's a quick turnaround. So

(01:24:23):
my question to you, Sean isare these games good for the NFL?
Well, they're good for Amazon, and they're good for the NFL because you
know why they make money advertising dollars. It's a big, big business football
on TV and you can put iton on a Tuesday morning and then people

(01:24:46):
will watch it. I personally,I just think that the contradictory part of
it is it makes me laugh. It's not only contra but it's also it
goes against it. It's so oppositehow the NFL thinks about this. They
and I'm not saying that only threedays rest or two days rest is a

(01:25:08):
reason people get hurt. People gethurt all the time in sports, especially
in football, you get hurt allthe time. But the other side of
it is you're just if the body'snot prepared for it, it becomes a
little tougher. Now, I knowwe have Thanksgiving Day game, and you
know Thanksgiving, it shouldn't we atsome point in time on Thanksgiving shouldn't that

(01:25:29):
be the bye week that the sixteams that are playing in a Thanksgiving game?
Shouldn't they all have got a byeweek the week before. In truth,
back in the old days, Ishould that be a bye week?
Right? Yeah? So in thiscase, but I you know, I
don't understand all the mathematics are goingto have to schedule and when you can
give bye weeks. But in truth, is it good for the NFL?
They love it because it's ratings andit's money. The other side of it,

(01:25:50):
is it good for the player. It's absolutely not good for the player.
And it's such a not only contradicting, but it's so the hypocrisies beyond
belief. If you told them thatthey could play two Thursday night games and
that they were going to get anextra billion and a half dollars for it,
you know what they do every Thursday, Every Thursday, every Thursday,

(01:26:12):
three games. If that was thecase. They just don't want to limit
too much on a Sunday, right, They want to make sure they got
plenty of games. The whole thingis why it is so the hypocrisy rules
is you tell us that this healthis the most part. We setup all
these rules for health. So youget a guy like Singletary Rushes thirty times

(01:26:33):
last week, right, or DerekHenry or a McCaffrey and then you roll
them out there. Okay, soyou played on Sunday, carried it thirty
times. You wake up Monday andyou can barely get out of bed.
If you're the singletary's the world.Regardless of what people think, the punishment
they take is severe. So Mondayyou're baker. You can't you know,

(01:26:53):
when your hamstrings are sore and youcan barely bend your legs, think about
your whole body being like that.So now you go into the facility,
you set in the tub. You'renot doing much. You're watching tape on
Monday, watching the game over. Then you go out there and you jog.
We call get that get that lacticass, go stretch it out.
Yeah, so it's a walk through. Jog jog ten one just to get

(01:27:15):
loose. So Tuesday is your normalday off, but in a short week,
it's not Tuesday. Now is yourWednesday and your Thursday half and half.
Wednesday's your hardest practice of the week. So that's Tuesday Wednesday. You
can't have it. It's a walkthrough. But now you've got to take
your walkthrough and kind of ramp upyour walk through a little bit because you
got to go through special teams, red zone, two minute drill. So

(01:27:39):
Tuesday and Wednesday now are combined, and you get no rest, you get
no recovery, and then you can'tdo much Wednesday. And if you're traveling,
you've traveled on Wednesday after a shortlittle walkthrough, or you're doing it
at the stadium. When you getthere, you got to go to bed.
And you're waking up and playing aThursday night game, and you wonder
why, And then then you're gonnatell me, you know what, We're
gonna change rules this offseason. We'regonna change the rules and we're gonna make

(01:28:01):
sure you can't hit anybody in atackle football league. But we are gonna
make you play two games in fourdays and ask you not to get hurt,
and ask your hamstrings and knees andand you're all that to be to
be healthy and and so basically they'retelling you, we care about your health
until you disrupt our money. Welove it because we get to watch it.

(01:28:21):
M hm. And now they're gonnaget ten days off. I guess
they're philosophis, Oh, you gethurt Thursday, Now you don't have to
play this Sunday, you get thewhole week on Yeah. This, No,
it's not good for the player. It sucks. Then usually the game
suck too because they're not ready toplay right, they're still recovering from the
last week. They can't get youcan't even get to your mental frame focus
because you're not ready to play yet. Yeah. No, it's not good
for the player. It's good forthe fan, and it's good for but

(01:28:43):
it's not good football. In sixthat was the first Thursday night football game.
So obviously if this Thursday night stuffwas not around when you were playing,
what was it Thanksgiving? What wasthe quickest turnaround in your career as
an NFL player Sunday to Thanksgiving Day? That was it? That's it's it?
That is it? It? Thenin in football, if you're playing
in the sometimes late in the season, you played a Sunday game and then

(01:29:05):
you'd have a Saturday game. Thathappened us too. I remember in Seattle
my rookie year, we'd gone ona roll and we we got to the
point where Tennis that we beat Ithink it was Denver on the last Saturday
of the season. We hung fortyplus on him. And we've been on
a roll and we're just waiting forthe Sunday games. We had to have
three scenarios happened and we'd have madethe wild card. Kansas City goes and

(01:29:26):
gets three special teams touchdowns and wins. Another team went and school did s
oh, we get exactly blocked, the kick blocked another one. I'm telling
you, three special teams touched thecosts getting in the playoffs. So Saturday
you're thinking we kicked invers ass werethe hottest team in football. David Craig's
playing out of his mind. We'regoing to kill it. And then they
did what and every game that wentthe three that one of them had to

(01:29:46):
happen for us, and none ofthem did. We missed out in the
playoffs. But I can remember howit's like, wow, that was the
quickest turnaround for those guys who werestarting playing all the time. But I
never and the Thursday. Other thanthat, it's Sunday to Sunday and Monday
night, you know, or theMonday night game when you're playing the next
Sundays. So you got a legitimatesix days off, which is easier because
you just kind of cut off thenext day. Sometimes we're not watching tape.

(01:30:08):
We'll just see you guys on victory. You know, after your day
off whatever, you give your dayoff next day. So, but this
is you're asking guys to do thisand then play top level football. It's
a virtual impossibility, it really is. Yeah, and it shows on the
field with these stars on night gamesbecause they're not good. All let's get
into the eight o'clock hour and let'sstart looking at some big matchups in college
football. That's next on the SeawanSalisbury Show. Hey, Classic Elite Buke

see the herd file. I'll waittill the herd files then I'll roll in.
Yeah, like maybe right after kickoffor just before. And I'm not

Well, I mean you're you know, you're watching a player warm up fifteen

You're not going there. It's likeyou go in there and joke around with

(01:46:34):
that stuff all you want. Iuh, I took my recruiting visit to
soul Ross State Tough the Pine andalmost got me the Alpine Pine. Yeah.
Yeah, early life South what what? Salisbury was born in Long Beach,

I mean it came down to nameimaging like the Soul Ross State USC.
I mean, what do you Toughdecision? Tough decision. It's there

(01:47:40):
though, it's all Wikipedia, soyou know it's true. I can't wait,
Chris Tough and Uh. There wasa college coach that was interviewed for
the Texas A and M job.Who is it? It's next? Sports
Tuck seven ninety. Let the celebrationstart wor Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven
ninety NFL insider Aaron Oilson, I'mgonna join us next segment to talk Texans

(01:48:39):
versus Cardinals, which is this Sundayat NRG Stadium. It's a noon kickoff
Rockets and Clippers tonight in Los Angeles. The launch pad starts at eight thirty.
That's the pregame show, and thentip off at nine thirty. You
can hear all that action right hereon your home for Rockets basketball Sports Talk
seven ninety showing how Tony Ronald Coon, your junior your most valuable players in

(01:49:02):
Major League Baseball. Texas A andM looking for their next head coach,
have completed an interview and the headcoach that interviewed Jeff Trailer. Jeff Traylor
is the head coach of UTSA andhe has done a phenomenal job with that
program. He sure has. Imean he rolls through it like he's a

(01:49:25):
tractor. See what there? Tractortractor trailer. Yeah, a great nickname
for a former basketball player too,by the way, Michigan basketball player.
Look it up. So he's acheater too. Oh no, sorry,
look it up for tractor trailer.Yeah. I believe he played tractor trailer.
Yeah, yep, bfy Athletic BFI, Robert Trailer actor trailer, yea,

(01:49:46):
Robert Deshaun tractor trailer. There yougo. But the Jeff Trailer is
a very good football coach. He'staken UTSA to a whole new level.
It's not I mean, listen,we can say what we want about well,
I love UTSA. He does. It's obvious because he's You can't be
that passionate and do the things he'sdone there without loving that program. There's
another there's a there's a bigger jobthat awaits and if Texas A and M

(01:50:09):
offers a job, he'll take it, and they can do a lot worse.
And I will be here to tellyou I believe he'll be He will
give you the more energy, theright way than what you've been seeing at
A and M. Good football coach. Now that's a big step, but
he has taken the step he tookto get the UTSA and do what he's
done there. He has really madethat in A. The profile of that

(01:50:30):
program has elevated under him. Donea phenomenal job. So I think that's
a great interview. You know, people talk about get a guy, a
younger guy or a veteran guy thatmaybe hasn't had an opportunity, or who's
built a program that that hasn't hadlong lasting success but now is every year
sustaining success. Jeff Trailer's good footballcoach and he obviously has taken that building

(01:50:56):
to a whole new level. Ithink that's a wise interview and for him
went well because he's done a greatjob at UTSA. Another name that is
a strong candidate for Texas A andM but has not interviewed yet is Duke
head coach Mike Elco. He's aformer defensive coordinator that coached at Texas A
and M. Yeah, Mike,Mike would. He's held in high regard

(01:51:17):
in the business, has been agood college coach for a minute, and
I think Mike would do a hellof a job and he's earned an interview
as well. Jeff Trailer for UTSA. He's coached the road Runners to two
Conference USA championships and a thirty sevenand thirteen record that includes a twelve and
two market twenty twenty one, hisroad Runners are seven to three and tied
with a number twenty four to lanein SMU for first place in the American

(01:51:40):
Athletic Conference. They are all allthree of those teams are six and oh
in their conference. So he's he'sdone well, done well for that program.
So now, like I said,it's a monster. Yeah, you
can step up going from the AACto the SEC. That's a huge jump.
But you know that. But thatwe've seen a million of the guys
do that right, and I thinkthat he's ready for it. Now.

(01:52:02):
Whether he gets it or as theirlead candidate's another thing. But I think
this is a wise move. Plus, he knows Texas and to be able
to recruit, and it'll be alot easier to get recruits at A and
M, even though the competition's evengreater than it will be at UTSA,
and he's done a good job.My thing is that's just getting them,
developing them. I need a guydeveloped. I see it too often that
you get him their five star playyou expect them to stay that way.

(01:52:25):
The football players evolve. Man,the three star guy you didn't recruit ends
up being the five star guy bythe time you leave. If you're doing
it right and the five star guystays stagnant, doesn't get better. If
you're not doing it right, andbefore you know what, that leads to
development of players gets behind. Beforeyou know it, you're in a chase
mode. The coach gets fired. So give me a three star I can
develop to a five star or acoach that can do it as opposed to

(01:52:45):
a five star gets there and doesn'tmake them any better than are a four
star player. Whatever that means thesedays putting stars by their names. I'm
just so when you say that people, oh he's a five star, he
must be a great player. That'snot always the case because sometimes they're not
developed, or sometimes they're just flatass overrated. But the state of Texas
is important to understand the landscape JeffTrailer does. Yeah. I mean you

(01:53:05):
would think with the way that TexasA and M gets recruits that whoever comes
into this position, I wouldn't sayit's going to be easy, but you've
got some really good talent there forand for whatever reason, they can't put
it together. And again I thinkI said it last year goes back to
Jimbo Fisher and coaching. Whatever hewas doing, they were not getting buy

(01:53:29):
in from these kids. Back tothe head coach, head coach of the
kids. Something there was a disconnectsomewhere. So I think whoever they do
decide, I mean, they're goingto have a gold mine. Feels like
we're in the state of Texas.Man. Some of the best programs for
high school right here, just herein the city of Houston. There's no
doubt here's to get buy into aprogram. Jimbo Fisher got buy in when

(01:53:56):
a shortened season helped him. Correct, yeah, COVID, Yeah, it
helped him because everybody scrambled around tryingto fix it. They were able to
buy in that year and play reallygood football. And they've got There's been
bits of them that have played phenomenalfootball on an up and down basis.
The problem is the sustained success hasnot been there, and it usually falls
on the coach, especially when you'remaking ten million bucks a year. What

(01:54:17):
do you think it was? Ithink where was the disconnect? Well,
I think that it's a part ofme. Jimbo Fisher, you used to
Jimbo Fisher is from a distance.I've never been coached by him. I
have talked to people that have beencoached by him or recruited by him,
though, but from a distance. But I never get into why do you

(01:54:39):
not like him or why do youlove him? Just the philosophy. If
you know Jimbo Fisher is a verysensitive Dudeeah, not sensitive in the way
that he's compassive. I mean hemay be compassion don't talk about when we
see on the surface a very sensitiveguy to criticism. I think you have
a hard time if you know nobody. He likes criticism, but when you

(01:55:00):
let it define you, the criticism, it feels like Jimo got to the
point where the criticism affected him morethan developing players helped them. Does that
make sense? And I think whenyou're stubborn, stubborn's great as long as
you're willing to And I don't thinkJimbo. Jimbo's one of those guys doesn'tant
anybody to train in his quarterback. He doesn't want anybody you know that this
is the way we do things. And I've seen the way some of the

(01:55:21):
mechanics that he's taught. The guyshave come to me say coach taught us
this way, or talk to somebodywho has coached him, comes say,
well, here's what they teach overthere, And it's like, what the
hell is that he wants him tohold the ball where yeah, and it's
just and as a quarterback grew,I'm like, well, God bless him,
but that ain't the way it's Idon't think it should be taught.
And the people that just smartered meat it. But I think stubborn if

(01:55:45):
sec is not easy. I thinkJimbo has a hard time delegating. And
I think when he does delegate,I think the micro part of him comes
in and you could tell he's sensitiveand rabbit here, and a big program
is tough to do if you arerabbit here. The best thing is don't
let us know. You can seeright that Jimbo's about is about his Uh

(01:56:05):
you talk about wearing your momotion andyour sleeve and when when you somebody like
think just listening to his press compasse, I go, I mean he doesn't
want to let you finish your question. I mean Jimbo's got answers before you
got questions. I do like him. I think he's a good coach.
I think that he and I don'tthink his the pay had anything to do
with him not being a good coach. Good coaches coached no matter what,

(01:56:25):
no matter if you're making a hundredgrand or one hundred million. But I
think that the stubborn part of it. I think they had trouble. Look
at him trying. He didn't neverwant to give the play calling what I
understand, But there comes a pointin time and teams that keep going back
and forth, like now the CarolinaPanthers, Frank Reich's taking it back.
It's a disaster. That's a recipefor disasire. That means you don't trust
anybody's going back and forth. AndI think that there is this perception about

(01:56:46):
Jimbo Fisher that he's more hat thancattle. Makes sense. I think that's
fair though. I think from whatwe've seen at least last three seasons,
I think there's a lot of talkabout good leadership. Is I don't know
if when Jimbo's in front of themic that that I'm crawling ten miles over

(01:57:06):
broken glass, you're not to hearhim speaking. I mean like, I
don't mean it. I don't Idon't even need to call it. Jimbo
Fisher to me, isn't the manI think that leads you. Now you
say, well he did it,Florida, sayah, things are different.
Whatever the reason, get a luckyyou got a good quarterback. You're different,
you're younger, you do it,You've learned. I don't know.
I just think from a distance. For me, Jimbo Fisher feels like I

(01:57:29):
feel like Jimbo's combative. He iscombative. I agree, yes on what
Nick say. He's like, hefeels like you can defend every everything.
When they asked him about play callinglast year, he was combative about it.
When he brought in Patrino to behis offensive coordinator, he was even
combative about that. Oh, we'regonna we're gonna work on it together.
Yeah, he's oh, dude, like he feels like he's everything that's not

(01:57:54):
telling him how greaty it does.It just seems combative, like, dude,
it's gonna be okay. Yeah,he's up. I feel like Campbo,
he's the type of guy maybe loseshis voice all the time because he's
a combative. You know. Idon't know if that's the case. What
it feels like. Yeah, Ijust feel like with Jimbo that there's always
some undercurrent of combativeness that that thatwould bother me as a player. Yeah,

(01:58:14):
And I just look back and say, that's not a recipe for success.
No, it's definitely not in TexasA and I'm going to continue their
head coaching search. I let's getback to talking Texans as we welcome in
NFL insider Aaron Wilson to the shownext that Sports Talk seven ninety. Hey,
this is Charles Barker, and youguys thought I put on some way
since my playing days. You shallsee Sean Solisborough horoble. Now back to

(01:58:36):
the Sean Solisborough Show. What aknucklehead Texans and Cardinals this Sunday at NRG
Stadium, and we are going towelcome in our guy NFL insider covering the
Texans for KPRC two Sports, AaronWilson YEP and Sports seven ninety dot com,

(01:59:00):
where you can get a lot ofhis stuff from here as well,
and get him at Aaron Wilson onTwitter. All right, guys, Aaron,
First off, we talked last weekand it was not a long shot
they could beat him, but boy, they had to play really good football,
and even though they had to overcomea few turnovers, they played really
good football. I love I thinkthey believe that they're learning how to win
and that they expect to win nowinstead of hope to win it sure looked

(01:59:23):
like that last week, in thelast couple of weeks, right, Yeah,
Sean, And that is the vibearound the building with the Texans that
they are learning how to win andthe biggest thing that's been emphasized a lot,
and it has the four. ButI think it's really hitting home now
and they already had the buy in, but I think they're starting to realize

(01:59:44):
can't get too satisfied with a victory, and you know, every week you
have to bring it or you knowyou're not going to win the game.
And I think they're realizing that everygame is tough. They are not a
team that's gonna blow out a lotof people, but they can beat them
lot of people. And you lookat you know, they've got some quality
wins. They've beaten teams that haveover five hundred records. I know the

(02:00:09):
Bengals are kind of having a roughtime right now, but it's still Joe
Burrow, it's still DJ Reader,it's Jamar Chase, It's a lot of
good football players out there, andthey took care of business. That's a
really quality win. And now thisis kind of like the Carolina game a
little bit sopt they had the byeweek. They lost momentum simply by the

(02:00:31):
bye week, more so than takingthe Panthers lightly. I feel like this
is a take care of business kindof game. You're facing the Cardinals.
They are two and eight. Yeah, I know they have Klin Murray all
that, but this is a gameyou're supposed to win. And to be
a playoff team, you have towin the Guineas and this is one of
those games. Under Stand, JamesConnor, all those players, they have

(02:00:55):
some players. Everybody's got a coupleof players that's not a good team.
And I think that you're looking atactually no one. I just sort of
thought about this, but Jonathan Gannaanfor a couple of years was a potential
head coach here. Then they woundup with Miko Ryans instead, and they

(02:01:17):
you know, now they square offon the field and versus ions. Aaron
Wilson on Twitter and Aaron Wilson onTwitter. Hear him right here in KPRC
as well, doing a lot ofgreat insight and stuff for them on television.
We get him every Friday here givingus this great insight as well.
All right, with this we talkedabout I'm into the psychological mental side of

(02:01:38):
it, especially on a young teamthat's really your best players this year on
offense and quite frankly, the wayyou know that Will Anderson's playing and a
lot of young and or rookies.First and second, your players are impactful
as well. So my question ishow are they how did they get to
a point? And when do youknow that you are able to handle success?

(02:01:58):
Because now everybody's talking about how goodthey are. They're a playoff team,
they got the MVP in the leaguepossibly and the coach of the year.
The schedule sets up well for them, they got three straight at home?
Is it is it business as usual? How do they guard against We're
pretty good, but still knowing thatthey're pretty good, allow of us to

(02:02:19):
do It's how you think and whatyou say. And then you know a
lot of people talk about visualization.I could conversation her Jonathan Gernard about that
if you don't see yourself as beingthat winning team and the consistent team,
you won't be. And I thinkthey're learning how to win on a consistent

(02:02:42):
basis. And you know, furthis isn't just the players, it's Danika
Ryans. He's not a finished productas a head coach. He's still a
rookie head coach, so he's stillgrowing. So going as a defensive play
caller, he's only been doing thatfor a couple of years, so I
think about getting better. It's theimprovement lead, and if you don't improve,
you get passed by. So theyhave to keep a dad think,

(02:03:04):
keep growing and learning how to win. One of the best things that happened
last week was Devin Singles are runningfor one hundred drs, the eighty eight
yards team season high. I'm talkingto Bobby Slowy yesterday, asked them up.
Well, the way they got theball, the coordination. It was
the first time they kind of lookedlike it's supposed to look. Uh maybe

(02:03:26):
they look like the old zone playerswith Arian Foster, with Gary Koobiak running
it, running the offense, Ithink, but it looked like a step
in the right direction. Everybody stepsthe right way. Physical blocking from the
wide receivers and the tight ends andDevin sanitary good vision make some guys miss

(02:03:47):
get through the holes. Patient afthe offensive player of the week, Real
Patient. That's how you run it, and that's kind of what you know.
Damie Pearce when he's back, youknow, he's gonna watched Devin and
try to run like that. Itwas interesting yesterday Bobby Slow said when he's
back, they're still going to splitthe time up, so we'll see what

(02:04:11):
the workload is distributed by. Damianwill not play this week. He's going
to be out again with an ankleinjury, and I kind of think he
can miss next week too. Maybehe gets back at practice still activity soon,
but this is looking like a monthlong ankle injury. You know what
interesting, Aaron. Aaron Wilson joinsus here can catch him every Friday at
eight thirty on this show on SportsTalk seven ninety. Aaron, I,

(02:04:35):
I look at the running game andwhat singletary. You know what Devin did
last week and the way he totedit, and patient, which you have
to be in this zone type read. You've got to allow that things to
happen without trying to get out infront of it. Is the thirty carries,
but it didn't look forced. Itlooked like the organic part of it.

(02:04:55):
They can you can run on.You don't have to run on first
down to establish the and they firstteam they have to be that's their best
thing. But in doing that, they establish the run. If this is
what we're going to get the majorityof the season, I think this team
is a playoff team because now itjust makes the quarterback better and he's not
going to turn it over three timesevery week. We know that, right,

(02:05:18):
Yeah, he will not do that, and I think we've seen that
from him now. There's not goingto be like all of a sudden they
figured him out. What I foreseewith them is, you know, and
they've already had so many injuries, they just can't have more of those.
If they're able to be a healthyteam that's a big part of the equation,
or healthy ish, then yeah,I see them at least getting to

(02:05:42):
the playoffs. What they do inthe playoffs couldn't tell. You don't know.
I'm not sure like what they arelike against the Chiefs or someone like
that, who knows. But theybe a team I think that everyone would
take very seriously and be concerned aboutbecause of their quarterback. So you think
about the Texans and where they're at. They have taken a quantum leap in

(02:06:03):
the rebuild and they became an instantcontender. And the thought going to the
year was just hey, let's establishsomething. Let's know at least that they
have quarterback and a few pieces, and then you try to win in twenty
twenty four. Well, this changesa lot. It just even can change
free agency, you know, tothe point where maybe they'll need to spend

(02:06:24):
as much of the money. Maybeyou just need to spend money keeping a
lot of your guys and then draftingagain. And it'll be interesting to see
how Nick and Fario divinkle Ryan's orthe decision makers over there, how they
foresee the season in the all seasontoo, because I think some guys are
earning money, earning extensions, atleast earning a negotiation with the Texans right

(02:06:47):
now. Aaron Wilson a couple moreminutes here on Sportstock seven ninety. How
do we explain or to the fansa guy that was not supposed to be
able to process informationjudging from a testscore, to a guy who's processing information
like he's been in the league adecade and is as aggressive as any player

(02:07:08):
at his position in the league andas accurate pushing the ball down the field
and has taken the league by stormand is a top three candidate for MVP.
How is this supposed to happen? And because one of the great things
he has right now is his abilityto process the information. It's a fascinating
conversation, Aaron, isn't it right? And I remember about this actually last

(02:07:30):
week when we talked to James Lipford. James as an executive with the textan
is very integral part of their scoutingdepartment, and you think about what happened,
Well, really, they don't subscribeto that test. That's not something
that's part of their scouting process, not every team in the NFL. It's
not standardized. You can die ifyou want to be Remember the S two

(02:07:50):
S two is a not an intelligencetest. It's a process. It's about
how quickly you make decisions. Soobviously he was making quick decisions at Ohio
State a couple of things on thistest. And CJ articulated this quite well.
Didn't consider himself a great test taker, and I heard he had no

(02:08:13):
interest in this test. He's like, you know, kind of did not
put all the effort he could have. Did have a low score, two
low scores in eighteen and the thirteen. Knew this actually before mcgainn published that.
Didn't have a lot of interest inwriting that because I didn't put lost
stock in it either. This ispart of the reporting process. I just

(02:08:35):
I didn't think it was very interesting. Didn't want to feel like embarrassing shure
out potentially with something that I don'tcare about, and I don't put stock
in So that's my choice. SoI don't have to report every single thing
I hear and I don't. Sothe whole thing with CJ and talking to
lip for he says, hey,we don't. Ultimately don't spend a lot

(02:08:56):
of time on things that don't matter. What do they spend time on.
They watched the tape, They methim at our top thirty visit, They
went to his pro day, Hesaw Lipford and Scout there in Columbus at
the throwing watch him throw. Sothey had a formal visit to combine.
They zoomed with him a bunch oftimes, and they did a lot of

(02:09:18):
homework. Yeah, they were onBryce Young. They probably drafted Bryce if
they had the first pick. Andas Brevian Jordan said, best thing that
happened to them this organization probably youknow one other like JJ Water Andre Johnson
has been getting Strouds second overall andthat meant not having the top pick.

(02:09:41):
So they got to the right pick, you know, the right outcome with
what they did, and it means, you know, sometimes you have to
avoid some of the silly stuff withs two tests or any other like kind
of stuff. The guys had avery exemple off field feel here where you

(02:10:03):
know, he went through adversity, but that's not his adversity. It's it's
his father's adversity. He never letthat stop them, and his mom,
Kimberly, she did a great jobraising it. He's a great young man
and you've seen that from how he'sdoing in the community, how he is
in the locker room. And theguy's a lot of fun. He slimed
Devin Singletary. He's the Nickelodeon MVPof the week, so he gets to

(02:10:26):
slime him. Even also slimed ourguy ever from the PR department does a
great job, and so a lotof guys get slimed. Any when you're
winning and fun things like that arehappening, you're thinking about enjoying the wind
and pouring some green gruel in people'sheads on the back of the field more

(02:10:48):
so than this. That's two tests. So yeah, like one of matters
winning and having fun, you know, and having a good vibe. And
I think that's what CJ. Stroudis all about. And we've seen evidence
of that intangibly and also in theperformances. And I think that's what you
go off of S two tests.Yeah. I mean everybody's thought, oh

(02:11:09):
well, this means validated with Brottparty. Well, every persons different.
I know a lot of people whodidn't necessarily a score well and sat you're
an act, and they're very successfulpeople. I remember Steve Bashatti, great
owner for the Ravens. So theRavens have a good outcome last night,

(02:11:31):
great win. So he's always wouldalways would tell you this is aaron.

Yeah, j in the house whenthe world stopped turning? Great cut?

(02:16:52):
Yeah, where were you do?You're asking me about Michigan? Yeah?
Do you remember just a couple ofdays ago when Michigan said that if
the Big Ten commissioner came down onMichigan or Jim Harbaugh, that they were
going to fight it. They hadlawyers ready to go, and they were
going to do all this. Theywere doing all this hoopla about they better

(02:17:13):
tread lightly, the Big ten bettertread lightly. You see what they did.
Yeah, they're gonna accept it.They didn't do a damn thing.
They're going to accept the suspension. You know why you want to talk about
a bitch? I think if youwant to know why, I think if
you're Jim Harbor in Michigan, youknow what you're saying. Boy, did
we escape? Did we? Didwe fool them on this one? Yeah?

(02:17:37):
But I also think there's something elseto that though. I think Big
Tens wanted an easy This is away for the Big ten to protect their
sore, right, this is theBig Ten. Yeah, I feel like
the NC double A is going tocome down later. I think the I
think this is it. I thinknow that we see this, maybe part
of the deal is it by acceptingit, not appealing it. The n

He said, my stance has beenclear. I believe that the process
should run its course. The BigTen Conference has done this, it is

(02:22:00):
clear, and Michigan has acknowledged thatrules were broken. Thus there needs to
be some accountability and that always fallsto the head coach. He's right.

appeal it no doubt. In asense. By not appealing it, aren't
you saying we screwed up your brokerules. I'm gonna take this punishment because
it could be worse. Let's geton from it. Essentially admitting guilt,
Well that I think it's a coldstone, cold lock that you admit it.

I was a Big ten, wouldn'tyou say if you're trying to listen.
As much as they want to punishJim Harball, it's Michigan, it's a
powerhouse, it's a blue blood school, they also want to protect the school.
If you're the big thing, youwant to protect what's yours. You'd

But Jim's not going to make onetackle in the game. And he'll
have a presence because he can coachall week and they will have a plan
that he and the coach moral gothrough and say, in these situations,
let's do that. And then he'llsay, now you go do your thing

(02:28:18):
and let's go. They'll they'll communicateabout it. So for me, and
if you are the big ten, don't you call up even though you're the
governing body for your conference, don'tyou call up the bigger governing body and
say, we're going to do this. What do you think does it stop
here? Or is there going tobe more stops here? I would imagine.
Now I may be way wrong.I don't know what the protocol or
legality is for that. But forme, if you're Jim Harbon Michigan,

(02:28:43):
don't you ask those questions? Okay, if I do this and just forget
it, is the punishment over?If you guys done your is the event?
Are you done with this? Oris the answer? Well, if
you don't know, when you're theBig ten, you say, well,
it's got to come down from theNC two A now. Or if the
NC two n Big ten have talkedand the Big ten says, we're going
to take care of this, We'regoing to punish this and then it'll go

(02:29:03):
away. Mice, If you're then C two A, why wouldn't you
Why are you waiting for the punishment? If you have all the information the
Big ten does and you want toissue a bigger punishment issue it, don't
wait till spring next year. Inthe work, these kids who commit to
go in there, maybe they don'twant to go to Michigan if they can't
be eligible for a Bowl next year, they want to go somewhere else.

(02:29:24):
So take care of it now.My gut tells me that this is it,
and hence why instead of fighting it, they're saying, let's cooler.
Let the cooler stuff prevail, dude, let's let's move on. So I
feel like, if this is it, that's just a slap on the wrist.
This dude can go through practice,he can do everything. He just
can't coach on the sidelines. Andit does. If there was and they're
admitting obviously there was cheating or theywouldn't be taking he would. He would

(02:29:48):
have appealed it. If there's cheatingand this is all you got and get
from it, yeah I would.I would, you got Scott, just
like legalized legalized theft is what itis. And then how does Jim harbaughd
Look, I know that me andyou, Sean meet, Sean and Brian
both know that Jim Harbad knew whatwas going on, and of course he's

(02:30:11):
gonna say I didn't know what wasgoing on. Dude. You look at
some of these videos with Connor Stallions. He is literally standing right next to
Jim Harbaugh in most of them, relaying signs back to Jim Harbaugh because he
knew what was coming. So forJim Harbaugh to tell us I don't know
what was going on, okay,it's just a bold. It's a flat
out lie. Him and CHRISA.Thompson must be hanging out together. Win

(02:30:33):
in doubt, deny, But ifthis is what you get after all,
that you ought to thank your luckystars and not keep it moving. If
you're the NC do you're the NCdouble A, Sean, you are the
commissioner of the NC double A,do you just let this go? I
would have Well, now you tell, do I have a damning information on
missiones? It's damning enough that weknow they cheated and it should be worse.

(02:30:54):
Yes, I simply tell the bigTennis say, you guys can do
what you want, but I'll letMichigan know in them or further investigating,
and we don't think that's it.You go hip, that's what you decide
find, but there will be furtherpunishment from what all the information we have.
I would let them know. AndI would say, I'm not gonna
this isn't a secret. Let's holdthis back and and oki dokum in August.

(02:31:15):
No, no, no, Iwould you can come to me as
a big ten if you want tosay you're the big dog. What do
you think that's that's good enough punishment. Let's all move on from this.
Or if you're the n C twoA and you got the information, he
thinks more damning and that's not enough. I'm telling you right now, I
need transparency with this. I don'tneed a whole from everybody. I don't
need a whole lot of SEQ.Well they did this, Let's do this.

(02:31:35):
Let's hold out this information hidden betweenthe eyes because one of the guys
who works in the n C twoA is a Ohio State alum. And
we'll get them. No, youknow what I mean, it's silly if
you got all the information you needand this is what you think is sufficient
punishment. Michigan got off easy,no question, got off easy. They're

(02:31:56):
gonna curb stop Nebraska. They're gonnathey're gonna beat there, They're gonna beat
them up, and then they're gonnaprepare for it all. And Jim's just
gonna miss the four well and secondand with his motivation, could it not
work? Last two years? OhioState's got their ass kicked by Michigan.
So could it not work in Michigan'sfavor? Think about think about it that.

(02:32:18):
You can call it hyperbolic, Youcan call it chasing a ghost here?
Nope, nope? Can you canyou? Could you possibly weird?
Could it work to in a rowif you're ohouse anything? And not this
time? Son, It's time forus to get back beating. You took
Michigan long enough to beat us.They got it to the last two.
We're not We're not getting our asskicked again. We're on the cusp with

(02:32:39):
greatness. Jim's not gonna be there. You see the emotion they showed after
just beating who they beat last week. Yeah, they're their interim coach cried
on national team and Blake corm therefired the energy for there. Don't you
think you're gonna get an extra burstof energy? That hardball's not there?
I would think, so you're gonnaget everything you need. Who calls the
defenses Mike mcdonnid ain't. It's notJim Harbaugh who calls the offensive place?

(02:33:00):
Jim Harbaugh coach more other than amotivational speech and a little a pad on
the ass and then high five anddap and that and that your presence is
there with the headset on and you'reon the side. Isn't this kind of
going to work in? Our man'snot there? Our leaders are fearless leaders
out here. A little extra eventhough you shouldn't need a little extra against
Ohio State, but that extra change, you're looking for every advantage you can

(02:33:22):
get and you're gonna get even morenow because there's a lot of rumors out
that Ryan Day, the head coachof Ohio State, is the one that
started this investigation. He's the onethat leaked the information. So isn't aren't
they winning by losing? I wouldthink so. And I'm not talking about
motivation. But if you can gathereven a little bit more energy and anger,

(02:33:43):
you're gonna get it good it.So, in truth, what's the
punishment. Jim doesn't get the excitementof standing on the sidelines. He can
sit in his hotel by himself, watch the game and coach from that.
You know, you get into it. But every ounce of preparation that goes
in alls you're asking, is thatyour staff? And by now they should
know they should be able to finishyour sentences. Most staffs should the head

(02:34:05):
coach. They've heard it enough. Now just go do your thing. Yeah,
it's really not right. That biga deal. Now if you told
me the coach couldn't be around forpreparation. Now it's different because Jim has
certain ways he wants to go abouthis business. Hey, you lead him
to the water. Now it's CoachMoore and Coach McDonald and the team,
the players. Now, you godrink it and do your thing. Let
him drink How much pressure falls onRyan Day for Ohio State when they clash

(02:34:31):
in two weeks. Urban Meyer hadsome thoughts on that. Let's talk about
it next on Sports Talk seven ninety. But first, let me talk to
you about getting yourself some badass golfapparel from Kobe Stevens dot Com. You
don't have to be a golfer towhere Kobe Stevens has started with golf apparel,

to turn this matter over to Seanoh No more, Sean Salisbury on Sports

(02:36:52):
when you're like when you're like growingup or like early twenties, like you
fall asleep and you wake up atlike four o'clock, three o'clock in the
morning, and there's like those CDads going through the TV. Now you
feel like you're listening to a littleHarry Belafonte or maybe a George Benson.
Yeah, yeah, of course, how'd you know I've heard him? Who

(02:37:16):
is this? Oh? Okay,Frankie Beverley, who Mace Mace? Yeah,
okay, and Frankie Bley. It'sthe cookout song. Okay, here's
dude, we could turn this intoa whole segment Triple E. It's gonna
be a segment for Triple E.Would is it sports related? No?

(02:37:39):
Oh okay. Would Sean be invitedto the cookout? Of course? Why

I that I thank you, Manny. Let me explain to you that you

(02:38:01):
must understand now, okay about invitedto the So you're invited the cookout?
To the cookout? Yeah? Itain't a cookout unless I'm at it.
I was gonna say, let meguess you create the cookout, you start
the stand So it doesn't matter whatcommunity I'm in, I'll adapt to.
Matter of fact, the cookout. That is who I am. Yeah you

(02:38:24):
are the cookout. Yeah I don't. You never have to question if I'm
invited. The question is am Icoming? You feel that? No?
Yeah, well you're coming to thecookout? The cookout, right, yeah,
the cookout? Correct, So ofcourse I'm invited throw down too.
So now that now the big souseis at the cookout? Am I invited
to the cookout? Of course?Yeah? It was to come to homecause,

(02:39:56):
USC. That's not that that dude, us C cook that's not what
that's not a very like, that'snot a cookout school though, get the
no, dude, you got yougot usc is. It's just sorority and
fraternity guys that are rich. Exactlyis exactly right, because you know that's

(02:40:16):
true. Uh huh. But youknow what happens if they learn to adapt
to the cookout, not the otherway around. You might be invited to
the kegger. Oh that too, there's that to USC. No, but
I'm telling you walk about eight stepsoff campus. Yeah, oh we're having

you're cooking out right the fellas andyou're eating the best food and having

(02:40:58):
the greatest entertainment on the planet. So come on ESCO LBC, Los Angeles.
You want to know, and youwant to know if I'm invited to
the cookout. I guess, Socome on, man, you might be
the cookout. I'll take you toplaces in Los Angeles. Then you'll walk

your peeves? Huh? I meanthat's think about the trifecta though,
have I not covered the gamut?I mean, and at SC we cover
the full gamut. Well, Imean, if you really think about it.
You go from Esco, where youhave more of a Latino cookout,

(02:41:43):
yeahic Town Cardin, is there anydoubt? No? No, you know,
and then you go over to LBC. I've been to LBC, but
you know about Mustard Greens. Nota damn thing. I know a little
bit Someboddy Hank Norman too. Healways sounds he calls me snake. Yeah
that's right, Yeah, snaky snake. Why did he call you snake?

(02:42:05):
I don't want to know. That'shis snake. You gotta get to the
Come on man where he always andthey have great comedy shows. Come on,
there's my guys, dude, longbeach, Polly Hank. That was
my number one guy throwing the footballtoo. Love him. He knows what,
he knows what some tough times aretoo. Speaking of yesterday, I
watched a highlight video of nineteen ninetythree. You taken on the uh John

(02:42:28):
Elway led Broncos down twenty to three, and you threw for over three hundred
and two touchdowns. When you throwfor over three fifty it's closer to four
hundred, sorry, over almost fourA couple of touchdowns Chris Carter in the
mix, Yeah, come from behind. Who was the other one, the
other May Carter and Chris Cardiff,Jordan Hassan Jones. Yeah, both Anthony

(02:42:48):
Carter and Chris Carter had over onehundred yards receiving. Yep, and we
were down twenty to three. Checkthat out. In Denver, Snowstorm beat
him at their own game. That'susually John's deal, hav him back.
So it's crazy to watch watch yourun out of the pocket. I could
move back then, and that waspost two knee surgeries. I'm not doing
that now. I'm strictly a pocketguy nowt back to him. I invited

(02:43:11):
to the cookout? What happened toyou? See? You know what I'm
gonna do. I'm gonna take youon a little road trip with me.
Uh, I'm gonna have you.I'm gonna have you invited every cookout.
I think you already are, butI think so I need to bring you
into some places you've never treaded. You were a cookout. It's take any
place you've never waltzed for a cookYou're a real cookout. You're gonna culture

(02:43:31):
me more than I already am.Yes, damn, because I'm gonna in
truth. Have you ever strolled intothe You have been at the LBC?
We have? Yeah, remember littleman? All right? So I went
there for work. I don't know. Back in like twenty eighteen, I
stayed in downtown, like right onthe water. The hotel I stayed I
was bad. That's far from theQueen Mary. Yeah, this is right
right there. Well before that,I was starving and I hadn't gotten food

(02:43:54):
at the airport. I was inmy rental car and I was like,
you know what, I just needto eat something because I'm gonna go work
out, find a twenty four hourfinish or whatever. And I went to
a McDonald's just to grab a coupleof double cheeseburgers get my stomach. And
uh, there was a fitness store, like a nutrition store across the street.
I walked across the street, grabbedsome pre work out and I'm talking
to the guy, Hey, what'sthe best gym to go around? And
he was like, whatever you do, don't go a block up. And

(02:44:18):
I said what And he was like, don't go a block up. He
was like, see that McDonald's.Don't go to that McDonald's. I said,
well, damn, I said Ialready. I already went to And
he was like, and you gotout fine, And I was like,
yeah, yeah, man, Iwas fine, like I'm here, and
he was like, don't don't dothat again. Well, let me tell
you. So I was like,damn. Really, He's like, don't
go up a block, don't goup two blocks, don't go up three
blocks. Stay by the water. That's what I'm telling you. Damn dude.

(02:44:39):
Really, I was like, we'rein Long Beach. He was like,
you don't know about Long Beach.I was like, no, all
my buddies from a Long Beach,Polly and the rest of it that I
went to school with, what haveyou. That's why I said, I'm
gonna take you in there. Thereason why I had no clues because that
now we we're going to go placesyou were told not to go because the
fellows will make sure you're open.Literally said, don't go a block north

(02:45:00):
or whatever it was. Don't youcan go blockdrth if you're with the group
of guys that I went to schoolwith. Yeah, dude, I was
just a base trying to give mea couple of double cheesies, and we
said, don't do that. Weneed one of you along every now and
again. What you call white bread. Chris Card always used to call me,
Hey, white Bread, let's getgoing. Okay, I got you,
let's go. Would you go oncc uh yeah? Our double see

(02:45:20):
double see double see. I'm onmy way. Yeah, I'm coming,
dude. I told you that realquick. So I had to tell you
that the game, I'm we're struggling. If he bears repeating Chris, we
did. We'd laugh and joke duringstretching lines. When Danny you know,
and Chris a, hey, whiteBread, how's your wife and my kids?
During stretching line, we'd be stretchingpretty good. But if you'll tell

(02:45:41):
Mel, which was his wife,I said, Mel, tell Mel to
remove the mole from the inside ofher inside of her thigh. I'm tired
of seeing it. And we justjoking around. We go back and forth,
and so we say, I gotyou, white Bread. We'd laugh.
Go through practice. When a game, first couple of quarters, I
think I've told you I struggling.Yeah. We come walking off the field
and Diddy cut out and he goes, Chris, get white bread going instead

(02:46:03):
of like, get white bread going, and like, okay, did he
said it too, Let's go whiteBread's gonna pick up the temple here,
get out of his own friends, white friend. It was all. It
was all time class. They justgot to do because you know we cause
then he'd be the line laughing toit, Chris and be going back at
the banter. You know we we'dstretch about twenty yards apart. You have
to yell so the whole team couldhear. And so Dinny just said,

(02:46:26):
Chris, let's get white bread going. Okay, I like that. Oh
that's good stuff. Alright, let'sget to break. Let's talk about Ryan
Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes. How much pressure is on them to get
to the college football playoff. Let'sdiscuss that next on Sports Talk seven ninety

What a jam get after a whitebread Man? To be real,
you got to be real. Thiscut's got to play the whole segment.

(02:48:22):
This is no vibe. There's nodoubt. When you're standing this song comes
on, you could be vacuuming thefloor. Like I do with the Krytno,
you could be doing something domestic. You can be driving in your vehicle.
You know how when you go toa gas station, you're putting gas
in and the song they have inlike the shells Now Well, they're playing
the music on the outsiut side. While you're listening, you can hear it

(02:48:43):
outside and this cut comes on.This is the type where you'd be pumping
your gas and you'd be like, nobody, It's like five in the morning,
nobody's around, and you hear this. You down, oh yeah,
yeah yeah. And if somebody hadwas watching you from the street while they're
driving by the gas you're like,it's jamming. Yeah, yeah, this
is the cut. Who is this? He said, Sir Lynn Bube Real,

(02:49:09):
You got to be real. Whatwhat era? Does this bring you
back to? Seventies? Eighties? This is the This is a good jam.
When were you cruising down Sunset Boulevard? No Little Sunset in the eighties
eighties? Yeah? Yeah, tripley. Did you know that Sean had himself
a portion nine eleven that he usedto cruise around on Sunset Boulevard? No,

(02:49:31):
Sewan didn't Sean gross Rodeo drive Shawncomes a hard working Yeah, yeah,
no, Sean could. Yeah,if it was one of my buddies
that was from Newport Beach. Seanwas in a uh, don't let him
lie. He was a black ChevyLove pickup truck. He got stolen twice
off campus. So yeah, yeah, he used to get bags. Man.
Yeah, yeah, he's talked aboutit. Dude. My right leg

(02:49:52):
can't fit in a portion nine eleven. So that Tony Katain Google her.
Her name wouldn't be Tony, itwould be Tawny cat Yeah, I heard
her as well. Who else didyou just have? What was the one?
Heather Lockleyer, why are you interruptingthis jam to to to bring up
my vehicle which was a black ChevyLove truck It did get stolen twice?

(02:50:13):
And then no, who was theone that? Who was the other one?
Tawny Katane listen, Heather Lockley orwhat was the other one? So
we just everybody shuts up. Carlislegoogle her as well. No, yeah,
check it out. I mean Iknow you didn't even know where are
you talking over this jam? Whatdo you mean? Man? Because we're
a sports that I we're talking atalking sports. Look, man, it's

(02:50:35):
nine thirty six in the mine thirtyseven. You're making an excuse why you're
not talking. No, I'm justjust listen to this jam. You want
to turn this into an FM stationreal quick or an AM radio station that
plays music. This one. Thisis just a sounds like just like an
instrumental right now. Also, instrumentalsaren't good enough. I mean, all
right, the songs they had loveddon't don't mm hmm get it. Start

(02:51:03):
bobbing. Here we go. I'vebeen bob work with with Yeah, just
work with me for a second.Uh. We gotta get our cameras and
started feeling. Yeah, now movingit, move a little bit back and
forth, shoulders getting shoulders getting afterit. You know, now lean into
it. Oh yeah, to belistening to dude, because you're going to

(02:51:31):
this right now. I'm telling you, right now, Biscuit is like he's
Biscuit. Probably call in and saywe're heading into the weekend. That's the
way to get us there. Greatjam by mey, where's where Larry and
Stafford? Where's he been? Gettingready for the boys? And then boys
on Kirby and I'll holla you readyfor the game? Man? Okay,

(02:51:56):
I'm so deep into my fields today? Are you? Yeah? This cut?
This is a cut you doesn't matterhow old you are. This comes
on. It's got the right jam, right, uh huh Yeah, definitely
gonna add this playlist. Definitely gonnaadd this to the playlist. They're making

(02:52:16):
fun of it now, you knowI was never making fun of it.
No, come on, white Bread. Why you're gonna be watching the F
one race this weekend? And Iguess no, we're watching it this morning.
Yeah, that's as much as itI'm gonna watch. There was a
loose drain cover that'll cut you deepon your low riding car. F one

(02:52:37):
had to cancel first practice, sothey've been prepping this track for like a
year now. First practice Boom, loose drain cover like one of those we
canceled practice loose strain cover. Butthey're so low to you know, that's
dangerous, not ideal. Man,Gosh, I'm gonna let me get that
jam. And I started to feelit, dude, Sorry, I got

(02:52:58):
caught up in my field A right, man, good cut's all right?
So no no F one for youthis weekend. No F one. I'm
too into the A lot of goodrivalry games. This weekend, and I'm
telling you Texans win the next two. They're making the playoffs, just so
you understand. And that's the Butyou call bold prediction, I'm calling matter
of fact. I'm not even thinkingjust playoffs. I'm thinking you go take
care of your business and beat Jacksonvillenext week while they're not looking for Jacksonville.

(02:53:22):
I'm allowed to because I'm not playing. We can sit here and speculate
and what if all we want, this team may very well win the division.
If they do, you'll have anMVP guy and because he'll have to
play like the MVP to get himthere, and Duico Ryans, I don't
know how you'd push him past theand bypassing for Coach of the Year.
Not that those individual awards matter, but what those individual a wards will tell

(02:53:43):
you is it the team has donewell because if those two do the things
they're capable of doing, the restare going to fall right into place.
For the most part, as longas your injury it can limit the injuries.
That's going to be That's going tobe the question this weekend. Damian
Pierce not playing Nico Collins as questionable. Noah Brown has been silent all week
with a knee injury. He's questionable. So if they don't have Nico Collins

(02:54:05):
or Noah Brown, and that meansTank Dell's gonna get a good majority of
the targets. Robert Wood is gonnahave to step up, Xavier Hutchinson and
then also Dalton Schultz will probably bein the mix. But I think with
the way that c J. Stroudhas been playing and elevating this team,
and obviously there's other pieces too.Devin Singletary ran the football really well last
week. He's going to be thelead back again. But c J.

(02:54:26):
Shroud could be without two of hisfavorite targets, Nico Collins and Noah Brown.
So I have to see, youknow, with both of those guys
being questionable, guys are just gonnahave to step up. Next man.
That's their job. Man, nextman up. That's exactly right. Gotta
you know, you're just not nextup, which is next up with Stan
Orfleet and Chris Gordy, but nextnext man up? Mentality right, just

(02:54:50):
uh show up and show out,you feel me, show up, show
out, play like a champions.I mean what else? Yeah, no
excuse to play like a champion. And at the end, of the day.
Just score more points than your opponentand right take it. Take it
to play by play. You gottatake it a game at a time,
Snap it at one snap at atime. Stay in the moment. Oh

(02:55:11):
yeah, I have to. Man. Let's get to the final segment.
There's a big game in the NFLthat's not the Houston Texans this weekend.
Who is it that's next on SportsTalk seven eighty. Who's who's shown?
He's the y C Eternal judge whosits on high here's the final say on
all disputes. Back to the SewanSalisbury Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.

(02:56:05):
Final segment of the Shawn Salisbury Show. Here on a Friday, Texans Cardinals
at NRG Stadium. It's a noonkickoff on Sunday. Your Rockets look to
win their seventh straight. They playin Los Angeles against the Clippers nine thirty,

(02:56:26):
tip off eight thirty. The launchpad starts the pregame show right here
on Sports Talk seven ninety year homefor Rockets basketball show. Heil Tony Ronald
Acunya Junior are the MVPs in MajorLeague Baseball? Both unanimous votes. Been
talking Texans Little college football. Seeif CJ. Stroud can keep it moving.

(02:56:54):
Got Pittsburgh at Cleveland. See howPJ. Walker? What is a
DTR Dorian Thompson Robinson if he startsfor Cleveland and that I mean, there's
not really a lot of good gamesthis weekend. Monday Night football is gonna

(02:57:15):
be a monster Eagles at the KansasCity Chiefs, the Chiefs coming off of
bye week. That'll be a goodone. We'll talk about that on Monday.
But as far as these other games, I mean, you got the
Bears at the Lions, Dallas atCarolina, that'll be a beat down Division

(02:57:35):
matchup, Tennessee at Jacksonville, TampaBay at San fran Jets at Buffalo,
Seattle in LA could be okay, and then Minnesota at Denver could be okay.
Minnesota and Denver is pretty that's acould be a sneaky game. Yeah,

(02:57:56):
and Minnesota is playing great football rightnow. That's a Sunday night,
so we'll see Josh Dobbs can keepit going with that offense. And then
over in college football, Ah,I would probably say it's the big one.
Will Tennessee and Georgia that's huge.Yeah. Other than that, a

(02:58:22):
lot of these teams have you know, like Alabama hosting Chattanooga. Yeah cool,
U c l A. Washington gamesbig Yeah Washington, Oregon State doesn't.
Who does Oregon play? Let's seeand find it. But that Washington
Arizona. That's a big game ifit is because Arizona's playing great football.

(02:58:46):
Oregon can't. They can't mess around. Yeah, Washington, Oregon State,
number five, Huskies eleven, numbereleven Oregon State. And I'm sorry Oregon
is taking on Arizona State, notArizona, and it was an Arizona the
team obviously locally here. They shouldhandle airs on the state. Yeah,
your Cougars are hosting Oklahoma State. And then let's talk Rockets looking for their

(02:59:09):
seventh straight win. James Harden andthe Los Angeles Clippers. They are the
Clips are on five with James Hardenon their squad. I hope the Rockets
beat the breaks off of the Clipperstoo. I don't have any James Harden
to me when it comes to teamwinning basketball. Is just a guy,

(02:59:31):
now talented guy, but just aguy not helping you win a title.
I'm sorry, I just don't believehe is. What did he say the
other day that he hadn't hasn't hada I didn't get trained in preseason.
Yeah, that's why things aren't goingwell because remember he's a he is a
system. Remember that's right. Yeah, he's a system. He is the

(02:59:52):
system you and ire vibe. He'sa system, right, And CHRISA.
Thompson lies, What a damning narrativeon what's been a pretty damn good career
for her? What a what away to that? For the people that
want to be sideline reporters or thatthat read this or he heard that comment,

(03:00:15):
that is not the way the majorityof the sideline reporters go about their
business. You may not want tohear from a sideline reporter. That's your
business. You may not like whatthe coaches say. It's not the sideline
reporter's fault that the coach doesn't wantto talk. That's part of the thing.
They don't tell us anything, notthe sideline reporters, but the coaches.
A lot of times. I getthat every now and then you'll get
an angry Nick Saban. That's kindof cool to see and how you handle

(03:00:37):
it, But it's a tough jobbecause you don't get you prepare, but
you don't get a lot of yourstuff on air, but you still got
to be prepared for it. Asa sideline reporter. You do not have
to like the fact that, well, sideline reporters, what are they telling
me? They tell you about injuriesand all. You may not like them.
I do. I think they're valuable, especially when it's like, you
know, a Tracy wolf Center, the ones who are doing it great and
work their ass off. But theother side is for me, is that's

(03:01:01):
not how you do your job asa journalist. You prepare and if you
don't get one hit on the sidelines, oh well that's just life, right.
Prepare every week as a football player, and you want to throw it
forty times, If you throw itten, you better be ready for those
ten. And this is journalism. There's integrity involved in all the years they've
been working for respect, and especiallyfemales in this industry. What a slap

(03:01:22):
in the face man by one oftheir own who's been a sideline reporter.
And know when I hear people say, oh, you know, wouldn't you
lie about it if you didn't havethe information. No, I'd come back
with something after studying it and saying, well, the coach didn't want to
talk to me. He wasn't ready, he was frustrated. But from what
I saw on the sidelines, here'sit and give a little insight, yeah,

(03:01:43):
or just be honest. But youcan't sit there and embellish and lie
about something. And I like Carissa, I do, and she's always been
a good person to me, andI think the industry thinks she's really talented,
and she is. But this, after all the work you put in
for respect, to diminish it andshred everybody else on the sidelence because now
they are lumped into that. Peopleautomatically think that's the way sideline reporters do

(03:02:05):
their job, and that's not true. It is not true. She may
have did it like that at times, but I'd rather have somebody come and
tell me know. The coach didn'twant to speak to me, But here's
what I saw from my vantage point, bam, and get it back upstairs.
Matter of fact, her vantage pointmay even give us more insight than
what a coach is going to tellyou. Anyway, But that's not the
way you do business man, that'snot the way you do your job.

(03:02:28):
That's not okay. Well, isit really that big a deal? Sideline
yeah, because they take their jobserious. Tracy Wolfson's built a career doing
sideline reporting. Andrea Kramer's one ofthree women in the Hall of Fame.
Yep, you don't think she tookher job serious. She wouldn't be in
the Hall of Fame if she'd embellished. And it's a bummer because I do.
I hold CHRISA. Thompson and AaronAndrews. They do a good job,

(03:02:50):
and it's in high regard. It'snot their fault. When a coach
doesn't want to talk, you can'ttackle his ass. I've been on those
sidelines, and I get it.They're frustrated, they're angry, and then
they have to go to a trainersay hey, what's the injury. They
don't want to talk to you, they don't want you to know their injury.
But you still got to find outwhat it is. Right And so
I just but to say, youjust fake it, make make something up.
There couldn't be any more despicable commentabout your profession than that on the

(03:03:16):
sidelines, especially when they're working thathard. She knows better man. Maybe
she thinks it's funny, but Idon't think, well, you judge from
all the comments people Molly McGraths. Were you think they thought it was funny?
Uh? No, I thought itwas deplorable. Yeah, so Andrew
Kramer you mentioned her, she said, as one of only three women in
the Pro Football Hall of Fame,I'm sickened by the insulting mockery being made

(03:03:37):
of sideline reporting, a challenging roleprimarily manned by women, most of whom
understand and respect the values of journalismand are an integral, trusted members of
a broadcast team. Lisa Salters said, shocked, disappointed, disgust in what
we heard today called all sideline reportersin the question my job as an honor
of privilege and a craft at whichI worked so hard. Trust and credibility

(03:04:01):
they mean everything to a journalist. To violate either one in any way not
only makes a mockery of the profession, but as a disservice to players,
coaches, and most importantly to thefans. Right, and also, the
credibility comes into play, and you'llhave now put the people that work their
ass off on the science. Sothey're going to have to explain it for
you. Now they got to.Now they got to say, no,
I'd actually do my work when theyshouldn't have to add that extra part to

(03:04:24):
it. I just I don't getit. And you know what's sad in
this business. I don't know ifit speaks for everybody, but when I
hear some comments on when people aresaying stuff, it makes me actually question,
even on studio shows, are youmaking the do I have question?
Are you making this stuff up?There's no way you believe this? Yeah,
and now it makes even question itmore. I listen. I mean,

(03:04:46):
I've been twelve years of it.Every day I went on set one
thing in mind to tell you somethingyou didn't know and to beat and to
be opinionated and passionate about it.It may not be what you want to
hear. You may not like me, but I can't fathom going on there
and saying something. Now, certainthings, predictions may not come true.
You pick a game and it didn'twork. Fine, But when it comes
to that, see on this show, when you're telling some I talked to

(03:05:09):
that guy. Now when I saythat, now we're on the we've shifted
into journalist. I talked to thatguy and here's what he told me about
that. And if he didn't,that's a stone cold boldface, boldface.
Lie if I tell you, hey, man, I don't know six or
seven touchdown passes over the last threeweeks. Oh okay, you know we're

(03:05:31):
out to the LBC as journalism. That's entertainment. We're having fun and laugh
and talk in sports. But whenyou are doing that when I was on
the sidelines and giving you reports fromwhat a coach told me, that is
journalism. And there is a difference. Yeah, and you just I hate
to say this for CHRISA. Thompson, and I do because I do like

tell you now, to gain thatrespect back will be as hard any It'll
be just as hard as it wasfor her to prove that women do belong
on as in the business and hostingshows, doing sidelines and lagging games,
doing all they deserve an opportunity. She just set herself back. She's gonna
have to work twice as hard nowto earn more credibility. Because right now,
when you listen to Chris Thompson. The first thing you're going to say

(03:06:18):
is she's telling the truth sadly.Yeah, she's worked hard to be better
than that. Yep. And sois all the people that are doing it
the right way. Yeah. Ijust don't understand why you do it the
right way. Brian, thank you, I thank you nice. Keep it
