Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sean Salisbury show here on a Tuesday, Astros in Philly
is getting fired up for a three game series over
at DIYK and Park Good one on the Mound Tonight
you're gonna get fromber Valdez against Rangers Suarez. Multiple reports
that Jeremy Peney has hired at Scott Boris as his
new agent in the Rockets declined. Fred Vanvleet's forty four
(00:21):
point nine million dollar team options still open for a
long term extension, according to reports. But we're previewing that
series against the Phillies and to do that, we're gonna
and list's the help of me and Shawn's good buddy,
John Kinkaid from ninety seven to five, the Fanatic you
hear in morning six to ten up there in at
Philly and Johnny, it's great to talk with you again.
(00:43):
I know you always look forward to being able to
talk your Phills. Are they playing their best baseball right
now coming into this series.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, that's after they went on a one to nine
losing streak where they were playing their worst baseball in
three seasons. So you don't really know what's going on.
And it's where the Braves the Mets and the Phillies
in the National League East have all had a one
to nine streak, where the Mets are currently on one
right now. I mean, it's just weird. It's been really erratic,
but the Phillies are a really, really good club rolling
(01:11):
into Houston tonight feeling pretty good about it.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Hey, John, you know, the swagger has been a big
part of me from a distance watching them. You know,
it almost feels like, no matter where you are in
a game over the last three or so years, it
just feels like they always think they're gonna win.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Does it still exist? Is a swagger the same, big
or smaller or somewhere in between.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Well somewhere in between right now, Sean, because the fact
that you won't face Bryce Harper in this series, right
you know, with Bryce Harper on the shelf, it truly
changes the dimension of this team. They're not as dangerous.
Even though what's really strange is, since Harper's become a
Philly we were doing it this morning, the Phillies actually
have a slightly better winning percentage when he's been out,
(01:52):
which doesn't make any sense at all, because the lineup
is just a little softer when you don't have Bryce
Harper in it and him to be back soon, but
he won't be back for the Houston Series. We could
use him going up against that Houston pitching staff because
right now, this Phillies lineup has been very very They've
been very dedicated this year to seeing more pitches, being
(02:15):
more selective at the plate, not striking out as much,
and that's going to be essential against Disastro's pitching.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
And in truth and the same thing here, inconsistent offense
here John, as you well know, for I mean moments,
but they haven't sustained that domination at the plate. But
the one thing that both teams have in common, you
roll out some frontline starting pitching in the bullpen here's
been as good as there's been. These are two pitching
staffs that very well could be pitching in the World Series.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
You know, we talked about this morning and I don't
think you guys and I do not know this because
I don't. I don't bug Dan with it. You guys
don't have the gambling apps, do you?
Speaker 4 (02:49):
We do not. We do have the We do have
the I do.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
It's called the Calshie app, which is it's a futures
and prediction. It's not the best. I can go on
in all fifty states. That is legal in all fifty
states to Tasha, So yes, I can still and I
do make futures predictions and put your money where your
mouth is, so you still have it. You just don't
have that legal.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
You know.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
He can't put a DraftKings brick and mortar place here,
but you can, Yes, yeah, I can.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I can bet like two hundred and seventy three ways.
I can bet tonight's game between the right I'm jealous
ill and the Unders. I'll tell you, the Unders look
delightful for this series, the pitching matchups and everything, and
you can bet the over unders and the strikeouts and everything.
You're gonna you're in for a treat tonight because well,
I mean, we know, we know what we're getting ready
(03:42):
to face with the Astros staff. But Ranger Suarez, he
has been a man on a mission and he has
been unbolievable. He had one bumpy out and coming off
the you know, he was injured in the beginning of
the year. He has been outrageous for the Phillies. And
he's a guy who will be a free agent at
the end of the year. So he's pitching for his
(04:04):
next contract. He has been unbelievable. So tonight is going
to be great. Great theater.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
John kie Kate again join us from the ninety the
Fanatic Morning Show up there in Philly. And the bullpen
a little bit of issues early on in the season.
Has that group kind of started to level off?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yeah, they're arsonists, is what they are. Dan, I'm going
to be polite if you guys, if these games go,
if these games go tight late and the Phillies don't
have a lead, the Phillies with a lead have been
really really good when they lead after eight, when they lead,
when they lead after when they're leading going into the ninth,
they are perfect record. They haven't lost a game. When
(04:47):
they lead going into the eighth, they only have lost
one game, so they're doing great with that. It's getting
past the sixth inning, seventh inning, that's where the Bermuda
triangle is, if that still exists. This team has been
a tru ferocious at that point. The bullpen is really weak.
They have to be shopping. They need at least two
arms in their bullpen to go out and get so
(05:10):
that's what the Astros need to do. They need to
be selective. They need to push these starting pitchers out
in like after five or after six. They can't let
the Phillies starting pitching go late because if they can
go later into the game and where you're only asking
the Phillies bullpen to get them six to seven outs.
That's where the Phillies have found a real good equation
to have one of the best records in baseball.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Hey, Johnny, do I deduct in with a healthy Harper
and the great pitching staff and the way Suarez is going,
but the bullpen that you don't think they're a World
Series team as we sit today.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
They are not a World Series team as they sit today.
They absolutely aren't, and they're a They're a playoff team. Absolutely.
I think they'll win the division. They're a team that
will probably you know, if they had to play in
the Wildcard round, they would win it. But I wouldn't
even pick them right now for the NLCS guaranteed until
they fix those little problems. They need a right handed
(06:08):
bat too, and I don't think they need an expensive one.
They just need a right handed bat with some pop
in it. And I think they will go out and
get a bat like that, a cheap bat. You know,
last year, not even a top ten prospect was moved
at the trade deadline across Major League Baseball. So I
do think they will go out and they will move.
They'll move some prospects. They've done well with their minor
league system to get some talent in there. They'll make
(06:30):
some moves. But the Phillies need to improve a few things.
But they're one of the best teams in baseball. They're
on track for ninety six wins. I mean it's this
is a really good team. But I don't believe they've
got enough sean to be able to go win an NLDS,
win an NLCS, win a World Series. Right now. They
have to win those three games against three great teams
(06:51):
that you would have to beat. They need some more reinforcements.
They're right there to be able to get it done, though.
I just need to see Dave Dombrowski do it. Go
out and shop for me to be a believer to
be able to get that done.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
John, let's get you out with a quick football one.
The Texans ad CJ. Gardner Johnson over the offseason. I
know that you were a pretty big fan of his
when he was up there in Philly. What type of
players here?
Speaker 2 (07:13):
He's a champion. He's just lost his mind now that
he's gone to Houston.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Luckily, well, I mean, you know, look, sometimes it happens,
I guess, But just the type of player. What can
Texans fans expect from him on the field.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Okay, he's loved here. We absolutely love CJ. His two
seasons he played here, we went to the Super Bowl
both years. You know that he played here and then
he left. But there's a reason that CJ. Gardner Johnson
has played for five teams in five years. There's a
reason he wears his welcome out. He's a bit temperamental,
(07:47):
He's a bit of a sulker at times with things.
I think he's his own worst enemy kind of guy.
But his talent is unmistakable. Last year, he was their
worst player on defense into November and then he was
arguably one of their best players on defense November December,
and in the postseason he was fantastic.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Hey, John, So he can be a erratic, Yeah, I
didn't mean to interrupt you real quick.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
For that. Along with that is he.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Pull enough weight, swagger enough, big enough to waltz into
a team that's got great you know, chemistry and culture
and all that we hear like you guys did in
Philly to where the players complete it.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
Can he make an I know?
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Good?
Speaker 3 (08:30):
But on the negative side, is he powerful enough to
come in there and if he's going through a pouting
stage to affect a locker room or is he not
that big?
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Oh, Sean, I do not think he's going to be
a negative influence on your team. Great, I do not
think that at all. And I don't think that. I
think you have a head coach who, by the way,
we also love here in Philadelphia. I do not believe
you have a head coach there that is going to
let that happen. And I don't think that he is
the kind of player that drives down a locker room.
He was a popular player.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
So he has he's going to enhance this team, is
what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
For a while, He's gonna enhance your swagger. But the
thing is he's he's a bit a bit about himself,
and he got he got upset that. The first thing
of this off season was that the Eagles went out
and gave gave money to Saquon Barkley. They they renegotiated
(09:22):
Saquon Barkley's deal, and what did he do? He went
to social media and was like pouting about it, you know,
And and look, there was no question Saquon Barkley was
one of the biggest reasons the Eagles had their dominant season.
He should have been the first guy they went to.
And the minute that he went and groused about that
in public, it just sut negativity. Plus I can't really
tell you what was on his sweatshirt at the parade,
(09:45):
but let's just say he was very immature at the parade.
His the Super Bowl, I can just put it through
you was l I X you know if you're using
the Roman numerals, and he had had the and he
had the public feud with the Swiftie. Okay, so I'm
gonna piece this together for you. His sweatshirt said that
the Swifties could the Roman numerals something.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Oh gotcha, And so I will.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
Leave it at that, and they made and the Eagles
made him take it off at the parade.
Speaker 4 (10:14):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
So he actually he has the immaturity of a teenager,
but he has the talent of a difference maker and
he absolutely makes the Houston Texans better. And Philadelphia loves him.
We love him here. He will always be loved here.
People will always think of him as a champion as
they should and a difference maker. And I think you
guys are gonna love him too.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
Awesome he had a difference maker part would absolutely be nice,
especially with what the team is trying to do.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
And they already have a damn good young secondary anyway,
for sure, for sure, and he'll fit.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
He's not gonna be I can promise you this. He
is not going to be a problem. He wasn't a
problem in that Eagles locker room in twenty two or
twenty four. He was never a problem. He was never
an issue. He didn't cause problems. So don't worry worry
about that becoming a storyline in Houston.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Awesome for sure, John, k and Kate again from Nice,
Love you too, John.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
You're doing well, brother. We miss you.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Man.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Good to hear from here.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
Thanks you man.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
There you go and give Chris and live my best.
I will, all right,
